Dr. Tucker is funny, engaging, and teaches biology better than any science professor I've had at ASU thus far. Highly recommend. Unfortunately, he is only teaching the first half of the class. Very clear lectures, relevant homework, but everything is graded, so you must actually try in this class.
Dr. Tucker is a good professor all around. He cares about his students, his slides are organized and clear, and his tests are very straight forward! Nothing unexpected or pulled from thin air, he'll let you know exactly what topics will be on the test.
Derek Tucker is the worst professor I have ever encountered. I took this class online, he was completely non-existent. Never responded to discussion board posts, his TAs barely respond EVEN to emails. He doesn't do his own lectures. It is NOT clear what is expected of you. You are completely WINGING it. He doesn't help. Just terrible experience.
Dr. Tucker is excited to teach, and he cares about his students. The exams are incredibly easy if you just attend class and pay attention to clicker questions. Overall a clear, interesting professor who I would definitely take again.
It's not really fair to blame Tucker for this disaster of a class when he didn't do the lectures, write exams or homework, do the grading, participate in the forums, or answer student questions. I'm not sure what he did aside from clerical work. Angilletta designed the class. It's terrible. The T/F exams are garbage. Activites aren't the worst.
Good prof. funny and straight forward. Just review clicker questions and Power Points before the exam.
It is clear that Dr. Tucker loves what he does! He genuinely cares about students and his grading policy sets students up for success. He is passionate about the course material. Final is optional and is weighted as a 5th exam (only 4 out of 5 count towards your grade). Online hw was easy. Attendance is recorded by 4 clicker questions per lecture.
Science is my least favorite subject. It is usually hard for me to stay awake in science classes, however, I loved this class. Prof. Tucker is hilarious and makes the material interesting. He is always available to help students and goes out of his way to research when he doesn't know the answer to students' questions.
Dr. Tucker is a really good professor who actually cares about his students. BIO can be a very difficult subject and has a ton of material to cover, but Dr. Tucker presents the info in a way that is easy to grasp. For exams, look at his lecture slides and homework assignment post-class questions. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! It goes toward your exam total.
Dr. Tucker seems like he is a good Prof however this course 85% revolved around learning from poor Cogbooks readings. To his credit Tucker did supplement the course with a few good lecture videos. M/C exams were fair and he curved them slightly 5-7%. Activities were at time confusing and ambiguous but manageable. Offered a little extra credit to.
He's a solid choice for evolution. The worst part is the poorly written textbook where majority of the content comes from. However, Dr. Tucker's video lectures were a great supplement/helped clear up many topics. He curved each exam and offered extra credit, so while the class isn't the easiest, it is manageable if you put in the time and effort.
Dr. Tucker hardly ever taught the class, and left most of the material to a poorly written, convoluted online textbook. The exams rarely pertained to the reading itself and the answers to the questions had a highly subjective quality. The class wasn't difficult because of the curve, but Dr. Tucker was frustrating to deal with.
possibly hardest class I have taken. you have to self-study the material from Cogbooks. Dr. Tucker does post some videos which help. His exams are HARD and require that you memorize the material. He did offer extra credit to make up for that. Instructions regarding studying for the exam are unclear and the textbook readings are poorly written.
Class was one of the toughest classes I have taken so far. I have never failed an exam and I failed all 3 with this class. I still passed the class because of the all of the other work. He did offer extra credit at the end which helped.
Dr. Tucker is very caring. He is a great instructor. 5 exams and only 4 counts toward your grade. Study powerpoint, homework, and clicker questions to prepare for exams. Do the extra credit because it will count toward the exam grade.
Dr. Tucker is a great professor! I enjoyed every one of his lectures because there was always something new to learn. 5 exams but only 4 will count toward your final grade. The final exam is optional. There are extra credit opportunities that count towards the exam score. Overall, I highly recommend this professor for BIO 182.
Just finished evolution. It was a straightforward class involving cogbooks (ugh), great lectures, and a test heavy grading system. Curve applied and a lengthy extra credit assignment offered. Would take this professor again for sure (it is a fair non-anxiety provoking class).
Summer class had 3 exams, 1 or 2 assignments per module, and finally Cogboook reading modules. Exam questions were too wordy and unnecessarily difficult. I failed my first exam but still passed with a B. He curved exams and gave two extra credit assignments.
Dr. Tucker is the man. This class is not easy, but he is extremely clear on how to succeed. Do the Homework (which is easy to get 100% on and GREAT review), review the Lecture slides, and review the clicker questions, and the tests are not easy but completely fair. The other BIO professors should strive to be like him.
He doesn't know the material he teaches he read some thing online that it's better for you to teach yourself and so the entire class is him asking stupid questions and giving no. I hate him!!!!
Dr. Tucker is amazing! Though most of his class is lecture, he finds ways to make it entertaining and interactive. He is straightforward about what you will/won't need to know for exams. He really wants you to understand the material. If you ever have any on topic (or random) bio questions in lecture he always happily answers.
Dr. Tucker is very understanding and cares about the success of his students. He gives lectures very well and makes sure that the topics covered in class are comprehended. It's easy to listen to him as he Is engaging and often cracks jokes. After taking his class I have grown to enjoy biology.
Tucker is not the best but not the worst. He talks the whole lecture and loses the class sometimes because its just nonstop powerpoint and talking. Other teachers usually play videos/animations to break up lectures, but at least he doesnt just read off the slides. Tests are easy if you study the quizzes. Clicker questions for points too.
Honestly if you show up and listen, you will pass. Exams are over material he literally says in class. Just show up and LISTEN, most people don't understand, but if you study the pre-lecture assignments these will be questions literally in the exam too. He is so passionate about his job, and I deeply respect him. He cares about his job and students
good biology teacher. the course itself is generally easy, but he doesn't get to actually make any of the material as it is the same for all BIO281 classes. his lectures are funny, clear, and he lets people go on their phones/laptops so there's no reason to skip class. there are clicker questions, some are participation and some are graded.
Dr. Tucker is a friendly guy, and takes the basic approach to teaching BIO. The lectures are your average PowerP, and I wouldn't have gone to class if it wasn't for the clicker Qs. His class grade breakdown is amazing and my favorite part about his class. Do the extra credit assignments! Only get the bio lab book, launchpad, and clicker access.
This professor has been one of the worst professors I've ever had. Not only is he horrible at joking around, but the material is so dry and so hard to understand, that it just does not correlate with the tests. There is no homework cushion, so good luck keeping your grades up with just exams and lab reports. Absolutely horrible.
Dr. Tucker is the ideal teacher. I personally am not a fan of biology, but Dr. Tucker's personality made the class kind of enjoyable. He is funny and offers lots of extra credit, along with weekly assignments to cushion your grade. The quiz and clicker questions are always on the tests. The final is optional and he drops your lowest test score.
He is a fun lecturer and tries really hard to keep everyone entertained and not let the entire class be a long, boring lecture. However, at times, it is a long boring lecture. Funny guy who genuinely wants the best for students, but exams are hard. Not any HW really bc it is graded off of mostly exams and lab.
Although I consider Professor Tucker to be a very genuine and loving teacher, the manner in which his class was structured did not allow for improvement. Test prep and online readings didn't correlate very well with the exams. The class is EXAM BASED, if you are not a good test taker do not take this course. Be prepared to go to office hours.
Dr. Tucker is super nice and pretty funny (lots of dad jokes). Lectures are kinda dull, but he does his best to make them interesting. The class itself isn't very difficult. Learning material is simple and tests are fairly straightforward. One retake per exam (3 exams total), extra credit opportunities, and online practice tests before each exam.
pretty decent professor. lots of his slides are just pictures and he talks. uses clicker questions so attendance matters. tests are pretty similar to launchpad, so make sure you study those! good speaker, offers lots of extra credit in launchpad
Tucker is a good teacher. He makes his long lectures as engaging & funny as he can! The guy loves his research about lizards & loves to try and answer any questions you might have. Best way to take notes is to read the on-screen slide info & write WHAT HE SAYS THAT'S NOT ON THE SLIDE & ALL CLICKER Q+A's! Basic lecture notes are posted online.
I loved Tucker for animal physiology! He taught the class half the time and his lectures were interesting and not boring. He is also the professor often used by others in videos to explain biology concepts, he knows what he's talking about!
Tucker is great! Class is organized and interesting. Study for exams with questions from the homework site and make sure to turn in homework stuff on time to rack up points. Pretty easy A.
He was my favorite the semester I took him. He makes lectures fun and easy to focus. Not much homework and reading the text book is not required. He is a great guy and gave us cookies after our final. I would love to take him again. BIO 281 has 3 test and 3 argument group papers with retakes on all assesments.
Tucker's class was great! He was really good at adjusting the lectures or figuring out different ways to explain concepts if we didn't understand. Attendance wasn't exactly "mandatory" but we did have daily clicker points. Cogbooks (the online textbook) was basically useless. I don't think I read through a single page.
Dr. Tucker was my very first professor in college. He's funny and you can definitely tell he cares about his students. The tests weren't too bad if you pay attention during the lecture. It was an easy class just because Dr. Tucker was clear and direct, there was extra credit, and even some retake opportunities! Take him if you can!
Tucker was ok with teaching BIO 201; this was his first semester teaching it. There are plenty of extra credit and lots and LOTS of assignments to cushion your grade. But overall, study DILIGENTLY for lecture and lab exams/practicals. They are worth a ton obviously. This is A&P 1, get ready to study, read, and cry, and beat this beast! YOU GOT THIS
Tucker is so sweet and funny! Its A&P guys, the material is not fun but he does his best to make it interesting! Plenty of HW, quizzes and EC to boost your grade! Make sure you do them though or they will drop your grade! Exams are tough, make sure to know everything about everything on the study guides! Overall good guy and sets u up for success
When I had him before for BIO 182 I thought he was the most 4 star professor ever but I took him again and liked him so much more for BIO 201. He handled the COVID situation gracefully and showed he really cares about students. You have to buy access to connect to do assignments but I never actually read the book. Tests are straightforward, some EC
He is a great professor. He gives out some good extra credit and if you are having trouble in the class just go up and ask him, he is very accommodating. He gives out some tests but he goes over everything and does test retakes for every test. Highly recommend.
Tucker is SWEETHEART. He truly wants you to do your best. Lectures are easy to understand and he is really funny/makes the boring bio talk more interesting--I actually enjoyed going to lecture. The exams are super easy if you do the study guide, so are lecture/cogbook quizzes. Tucker is the best and easiest bio professor! Extra credit offered!
dr. tucker is well-liked, funny and knows his stuff! i have classmates that are bending over backwards to configure their schedules in such a way so they can take him again. he was super clear in explaining material and expectations, i highly recommend his class for an easy BIO course!
Dr. Tucker was very entertaining in his lectures and tried to get involved with his students. There wasn't very much homework and he also dropped multiple assignments and a test grade. He offers some extra credit in the beginning of the semester. His tests are easy as long as you follow the study guides and review the clicker questions.
He had lectures and practice problems that he went over in class. He cares for his students and he is very understanding. However his tests were very difficult for me and you need to learn how to apply what you learned. The bright side is that there was extra credit and office hours to help me pass this class.
Tucker is really passionate about biology and teaching, and created a comfortable light-hearted environment even in such a large class. The textbook is quite useless though. It's difficult material and without that to study it's on you to keep up. Take notes, ask questions, go to TAs, and DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!! Also tell him you like lizards.
Dr Tucker was amazing! BIO281 is a pretty simple class so there's no reason not to get an A (the lab's a different story; it really brought down my grade). His lectures are fine and they cover the topics, though sometimes they can get a bit confusing. Don't buy cogbooks, it's a total waste of money. And if you hate lizards, take someone else lol.
Professor Tucker is one of the best professors I have had so far at ASU. He really cares about how we are learning and what grades we are getting in his class. He is a great teacher and loves what he does, It really shows. I would recommend taking him to anyone.
professor tucker is very nice and very knowledgeable about the class, the class was constructed to have lots of wiggle room by dropping 3 missing assignments at the end of the year. overall hes really nice and kind
He's alright. He's not the greatest at explaining things, and his test questions are convoluted and require a lot of reading. He doesn't hold regular Zoom meetings, so if you need something, you need to schedule with him. If I were taking this course in a normal, 15 weeks, I might have better things to say.
Dr. Tucker was OK. Weekly Activities, Cogbooks, and three exams. Class is passable and doesn't take up all of your time. You should make an A or B in this class with effort.
good professor!
Favorite Biology prof!! Explains stuff super well! Would definitely recommend. The best way to do well is to pay attention during lectures, write down good notes, and thoroughly review practice exams. Only downside is this semester we had a testing system where it is open book, notes, everything but you cannot go back on questions- but so far ok.
Dr Tucker is a great lecturer and really cares about his students. BIO345 with him was very interesting and relatively easy. We had Cogbooks a couple times a week, lecture and recitation worksheets on class days, four exams and the final. One exam and a ton of assignments were dropped. Take him for BIO345 and you wont regret it.
Tucker has a laid back comical approach to his lectures which makes focusing easy and fun. Some exam questions could be a little funky and not clear but the grading is very spread out over a lot of assignments. Cogbooks gets a little more brutal/boring than usual for evo. As long as you put in the work and study you should do fine.
BIO 181 can be a challenging class. Dr. Tucker teaches in a way that forces you to try to fully understand the concepts rather than just memorizing them. The textbook is online and interactive but only worth a little of your grade. Make sure you show up to class because the clicker questions help with test prep and do count towards your grade.
Take his class! He offers so much extra credit and most of the work in this class is based on participation points which include worksheets, practice tests that can be taken twice, and quizzes. Three tests and a final. As long as you attend class take notes and watch his recorded lectures you'll be fine.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class!
Super easy bio lecturer. Just pay attention, take notes, and you'll be fine. Didn't learn the most though.
I've taken Dr. Tucker for Bio 181 and 182, and would recommend him for the class. Grading is pretty easy, exams are online and open-note, and lectures can be a little dull occasionally but are generally good.
Dr. Tucker is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He does not take attendance, BUT GO ANYWAYS! He does Iclicker questions, which give you full credit simply for answering them. Exams are open note, so take good ones. Worksheets are participation, not accuracy graded. The textbook is an online interractive one. No pop quizes. 10/10!
Cant say I loved this class, also cant say I hated this class. It was average. Harder than some, easier than others. Not particularly interesting. Do the work, tests are easy and open note, extra credit offered. Not difficult to get an A if you put the work in.
Have not shown up to a single lecture for this professor. I would follow along the iClicker without watching the Zoom, lightly breeze over the material and Cogbooks, and would get a B+ to an A on the exams. I would suggest going to class and putting in a little more effort than me, but this class truly was easy with just a little effort
Tucker was honestly such a great bio professor. Coming from one I had last semester who wasn't the greatest and had me really confused in Bio 181, Tucker was like a breath of fresh air. His lectures are really informative in my opinion and help a lot when it comes to exam time. Cogbooks are pretty useless and attendance is "taken" through iclicker.
I really enjoyed this class despite my lack of interest in the subject. He is a really understanding person. If you do the readings, which isn't too much, every week in CogBooks and do the quizzes, you should understand all the concepts easily. The lectures are fun to watch and help a lot. Class was easy for me, but you have to do the work.
Amazing and entertaining lectures. Have to buy cogbooks but I think that's for every bio class. Makes sure everyone understands the material and the tests are relatively easy since he teachers the topics very well. Super easy class, definitely recommend taking him.
Dr. Tucker was a great prof. Class is very easy with little homework. There are 6 practice exams which help you study for the actual ones. Lectures were well-delivered and easy to understand. There are clickers but you're not graded on accuracy. He likes lizards and occasionally makes good jokes. The material can get boring, but the class is easy.
Just show up to lecture, do the work, don't bomb the tests, and you're set. Dr. Tucker gives everyone the information necessary to succeed in this course. Low-grade cutoffs (89.5% = A). He also likes lizards.
Tucker was by far the best professor I've had so far. He kept lectures interesting and funny. Tests were super easy and there were only a few in-lecture assignments. He always helped people outside of office hours and takes the time to make sure students understand the material before moving forward. Highly recommend taking his class.
Recommend. Dr. T is a good guy who knows his stuff and is always willing to spend more time on a topic if people have questions. Could maybe stand to be a bit more assertive--lots of distracting sidebar conversations went on in lecture. A bit too much busywork for my taste, but that means tests aren't the be-all, end-all, if that's your thing.
Sometimes the material can be a little dry but Dr. T's humor has a way of keeping lectures interesting. Very few homework assignments, participation does matter and makes up a fair bit of your grade. Just show up to lecture and do the iClicker questions. Lectures are recorded and posted and the quizzes are a good study tool for the tests.
Best biology professor I've had, he cares about his students and is always open to questions.
Professor Tucker was awesome. The best class I have taken at ASU.
Tucker was a very chill professor, super nice, and helpful. Attendance is mandatory because of iclicker. The class was very self-explanatory. Study for the test and you'll be just fine.
Amazing guy who cares about his class. The exams aren't bad. Lots of Cogbooks reading but that's all. Assignments are usually simple. There is an extra credit book assignment. I really like Tucker, he is always cheerful and fun. He enjoys what he does and always offers help if you need it.
Dr. Tucker is by far the best biology professor at this university. The exams are easy and I don't think that I received anything lower than an A. He is great at consolidating the information in lectures, so taking notes on what he says will ensure you getting an A. There is the standard cgbks bs, so dont read that it sucks.
Took this class last year lol. came back to give him a good review.
Professor Tucker was awesome! Quickly responded to emails and made the course material easy to understand. As long as you pay attention to the lectures/labs, quizzes and tests are a breeze.
i personally do not like biology, never do it well in high school. but Dr Tucker condense the mateirals easy to understand and self-check quizzes are very helpful in summarize what need to understand on exams. just if you remembered all these, you will do fine in the class. learn a lot, but still hate biology
Switched out of a different profs class into this one and I am so glad I did. this is one of the teachers that actually wants you to succeed
The information is from lectures made by Prof. Capco who explains the concepts of each module very well. He is able to make the material relevant towards everyday life, which has helped with learning. The course has a lot of information, but taking good notes will make this class very easy.
The quizzes for BIO 181 are directly from the optional self-check quizzes. This course was ridiculously easy, I received an A and didn't do any of the Concept Integration assignments (there are 3 and they're 10 pts each) Just do the work and you'll get an A, he also offers extra credit by doing a survey at the beginning and end of the session.
I love Tucker, and I had him for 282 as well. This class in general is difficult and a lot of content. If you don't put the work in, you won't pass. 4 tests, optional final, last one dropped.
Evolution is a hard topic, that's a given. But Tucker does a great job at making a tough subject manageable. He is passionate about his subject and it shows in class. His exams stick to his lectures very closely. He's available to answer questions and wants to help in any way he can. It's tough, but you can do it.
was a nice guy who actually responded to emails quickly. was nice but his recitation instructions weren't the best. had assignments from 2 months ago that haven't been graded yet. he was passionate and funny so his lectures were fun to go to! dropped a lot of assignments at the end of the course
This class was HARD. I haven't had to read like that in a long time. The information was very difficult to comprehend, but that was Cogbooks fault. Tucker does a good job of explaining the info if you ask him, but sometimes, I didn't know where to start. Also, I could've done without the "mini-course" he made with group projects.
Dr. Tucker is probably the best teacher that teaches BIO 181. He's super nice and great at explaining things. The only complaint I have is how difficult the tests are. They're definitely doable, but studying is definitely a must.
Dr. Tucker is very reasonable and understanding. If you do not like studying from a textbook, find a different way to take this class. It is VERY reading-heavy. Exams are also pretty difficult.
I have taken Animal Phys 3 times at ASU, and Dr. Tucker is the only one who can teach it right! He understands how much work goes into it and that it can be a bit much. He's forgiving with grading and will curve if necessary. This is a hard class so get ready to put in a lot of work. Highly recommend going to office hours where he explains a lot!
Dr. Tucker created a fantastic learning environment and was accessible with any questions about the material. His lectures were entertaining and the weekly zoom meetings to go over material were extremely helpful and interactive.
Good professor, easy enough class. Highly recommend.
Dr. Tucker seems like a great professor. Unfortunately, I found his exams to be wayyyy harder than my biochem and physics exams this semester :( His tests, alongside Dr Maley's, are purely conceptual and amazingly confusing. Evolution is not that difficult BUT the exams are such a headache. TAs and recitations are unhelpful.
This course was organized with clear deadlines and assignments. However the Cogbooks textbook for this course is horrendous, and unnecessarily lengthy and wordy. Completing the weekly reading without skim reading felt nearly impossible even with good time management. The exams were also very wordy and long, with little relation to the study guide.
Professor is MIA in the class. No support. Exams are extremely hard and many questions are nearly impossible and are super lengthy. No recorded OH sessions either make this course a terrible disappointment. I didn't learn much. Use online resources to help with assignments and quizzes. Many discouraged students!
Dr Tucker was AMAZING! His lectures were super engaging and I learned a lot. Exam questions were wordy but open-note format was super helpful. Takes 2 questions from TAs from each recitation so def review those. Overall, he cares a lot abt his students and I highly recommend him for Evolution!!
Dr. Tucker made this class enjoyable and his exams were not as difficult as the other professors. He was great at explaining concepts and really wants to see his students succeed.
Recommend him! He is attentive, friendly, approachable, and caring! Took him for BIO 345 and 360.
The course itself was difficult. We were given open notes for the exams, but the exam material was usually conceptual, and it required both understanding and good note-taking. The instructor was very thorough and helpful during office hours, and the lectures given for each module made the material easier.
Funniest professor I've ever had. His lectures are amazing! I wish there were more of his lectures for all the concepts instead of reading the lengthy/over the top cogbooks material. Exams are open note but extremely hard, not really similar to the study guides at all. Lots of AI & ChatGPT use which is pretty irrelevant & time consuming busy work.
Dr. Tucker was an alright. The exams are all open book/no proctored, he gives about 3 days to take the exam. Homeworks have NOTHING to do with overall course lol. Join the TA to learn how to do the homeworks because its confusing in beginning and youll get used to it as you go. Overall hes chill, but the exams are VERY hard avrg exam was C take it!
I enjoyed taking this professor. He seemed to care about his students and the way the class was set up. BIO 345 was an open-note test with a lockdown bowser, not Honorlock. He held Zoom meetings for the exam review and answered every question he could. There were three tests. They were difficult as they were more logical than definition.
I took this course online and Professor Tucker has been one of my favorite instructors so far. Even though the lectures are prerecorded, they feel lively and engaging. I feel like assignments and tests were graded fairly and opportunities were given to correct scores.
One of the better BIO professors at ASU. Way easier than I was expecting, the exams are multiple choice and fully open note with just a lockdown browser, no camera. So much reading, but 3 easy extra credit assignments. Just show that you put some thought and effort into the assignments/projects and you'll get 100%. Easy A if you have the time.
He was a really good/nice professor. I had him for the first half of the first semester and I averaged a high B. He explains well and gives a second chance to everyone on the iclicker questions if majority of the class got it wrong. As long as you take notes and study off of them, the practice exams, and iclicker questions you will do really good.
Relies on ChatGPT to teach instead of doing it himself? Like, A LOT? Review for the 3 exams? Tells you to use ChatGPT. Discussion posts? Tells you to use ChatGPT. I really hate paying $500 a credit for my professor to use a FREE online tool that doesn't even work half the time to teach me!
This professor made biology easy to learn for me by providing us with optional readings outside of the class to give us prior knowledge and then gave us helpful insight into the subject during the lecture. The lectures were clear and well-paced; if you attend every class, you should be prepared for the exam.
Thee only reason why I didn't get a better grade is because I barely tried. I took statistics at the same time and 95% of my effort went to that class. The labs and assignments are kinda just busywork but the tests are straightforward and nothing crazy. All in all, not a bad class to take.
Very nice guy. Clearly seems to know what he is talking about. Had him for half the semester (two teacher class) but I learned a lot with him. However was not a fan of the IClicker questions which plays a big role in the whole participation aspect. Exams were difficult, so make sure you study!
Easiest class I've taken. His lectures are interesting and clear, and he also helps engage the class with iClicker questions and gives us second attempts so that we can work together. Provides good review content for tests. Labs are a bit boring since it's VR sessions and Excel. I had a fantastic TA so they weren't too bad, and they're very easy.
Kind of quiet at times but all lectures are recorded and put on canvas which is nice
Professor Tucker's BIO345 course was engaging yet challenging. The open-note exams required deep understanding, but he provided ample support. I found unstuck ai and ChatGPT useful for prep. Overall, a rewarding experience if you're willing to put in the work.
Dr. Tucker was really funny in his lecture videos, but the homework site kind of sucks and seems super outdated and veryyyy slow when it comes to trying to complete the hw.
He's very nice and very funny, but the exams sometimes did not feel very connected to the lectures. iClicker for attendance and also points. Focuses too much on examples that aren't very helpful.
Amazing class, although it is a lot of reading/note taking with cogbooks. Offers extra credit, which helps for exams. To study best for exams, take decent notes over cogbooks and I recommend taking the practice exams for the modules, as some questions from them are on the exam, which is helpful!
I had him for half of last semester. The first half was him the second half was another professor for some reason. He was nice and funny, but it felt as though his slides were disconnected from the exams. He focused too much on examples that didn't really make sense. I-Clicker for attendance!
If you just do the work you will get a good grade. there is reading and quizzes / Q & a,s, 1-2 activity's, and a discussion every week. 3 exams. put in the work and you will see your grade reflect that!
Good teacher. I will say, the class and exams are not easy. But there were like 3 TA's that had office hours once a week which was helpful, and Dr. Tucker did exam reviews every day before an exam. Cogbooks assignments are really long.
He gives clear, engaging explanations that make you think deeply about topics. Pre-exam review sessions and TA hours are extremely helpful. Simulation assignments are time-consuming but rewarding. Extra credit opportunities like read a book and write a commentary and summary of each chapter are given. Amazing Professor !
Main reason I said I wouldn't take again was due to group work. You have a group assignment due weekly, on top of a big group presentation video project. I found it very difficult for my group of four to involve me for whatever reason, and frankly the idea of requiring this much group work in an asynchronous, online class was not a smart one.
Great Prof and person. As long as you do the lecture quizzes, homework, and pay attention in lecture you're set. He's a really easy going and personable guy.
Digit is the mainly used for homework and lectures and no complaints as its easy. Exams are pretty difficult but as long as you do the work you will pass. He is very generous with extra credit and offers it throughout the course numerous times. He prioritizes student success over anything, this is difficult to find in upper divisions.
The class is way time-consuming. The Professor is most available for office hours but aloof otherwise. Pick your group members wisely. Don't take another time-consuming class alongside this one. Follow the study guides closely and learn how to do any calculations presented. Like most ASU classes it's a hand me down he's trying to work with.
group projects are so unnecessary. we shouldnt be graded by other peoples work. exams are overly hard and weighted heavy. exam averages fell for whole class each exam. digit is too dense and study guides are too broad. feedback only said what was wrong no insight on how to do better. no exam feedback. too much work for a 300 level.
He is actually so funny. Genuinely wants you to succeed. The content is hard but if you pay attention and study you can do it.
Dr. Tucker is a good professor and a funny guy overall. I am not the strongest at science but his office hours were helpful. Exams can be tough, but if you study the slides, do practice exams, and attend office hours (or just understand biology) you'll do great. Definitely take this professor for his kindness and teaching style.
Genuinely an amazing professor. Course resources provided outline material clearly and make content easily digestible. He's great at teaching the material + has a great personality that makes attending lecture fun. Fantastic grader, pleasant exams. Lots of opportunities for Xtra cred. I think it is incredibly achievable to succeed in this course.
Dr. Tucker Explains things in detail, going beyond just simply reading off the slides. He is really great about answering student questions. He is very passionate about what he is teaching and takes care in his the success of his students. Attendance was not mandatory, but iClicker was used for participation points. Lots of extra credit as well!
