Helps make the English Department easier on the eyes!!!
actually cares if students are doing well. i loved his class

He's positively yummy to behold. And highly intelligent as well.

It is an interpreting literature class and he treats it like grammar and composition.
I worked my butt off for an A and never was able to get it... but a B is ok i guess.
Very good

Dr. Pitard teaches the way it should be done. He is an outstanding professor. I learned so much about writing and about really reading a work. There is alot of work and he is tough on his grading, but if you work hard, you can get an A.
Very condescending.
Dr. Pitard is one of the greatest Latin teachers ever. He actually makes an old dead language fun.
Oh yeah..the last week when he got on the desk and did the St. Crispan's Day speech, I wanted to take the class all over again.
I had a great time in Pitard's class, we had great discussions. He is also very willing to meet during his free time to help you out with anything.
This class sucks! He doesn't explain anything to you and for a literature class it seems more like grammer and composition. I hated it! It is almost impossible to get an A. Good Luck!
You might not like him at first, but he will grow on you. You can fail all five quizes, but if you do the extra credit, they won't matter. He is willing to help you with your papers if you are having trouble. Take him; you won't regret it.
One of the best professors EVER. He makes you work, but it's never overly taxing. If you do the reading, you're golden. His class is only hard if you slack off. Nobody should get less than a B.
Avoid him. Trust me.
Love him! I was having trouble with my final paper, he went out of his way and met with me three times! He encouraged me to keep writing, and told me that i have an amazing writing style, i just have to organize it! He makes class interesting and cares for his students!
I loved him! I had him for three classes and would take him for many more! He was understanding and caring... he really cares that his students understand! He is awesome!
This is the best english proffesor, he wil lteach how to really get your point accross by writing things you are interested in. The class is a little bit of work, but getting an A isn't hard.
AWESOME PROF! He gives you a lot of freedom and the discussions are always interesting. He's really personable and approachable and just all around nice. His reading choices are really good and varied. Excellent class
Wow - how can you NOT like this guy? He's tough, but the view is amazing. Hottest on campus, and definitely hottest in the ENG dept. I love his class! Love it!!!!
Nice guy don't get me wrong it's just, RELAX DUDE. I mean I thought we were reading books here not writing endless papers.
He is a great Professor! I didn't even like Chaucer until I took his class. The work for the class isn't too easy, but he is always willing to help and go out of his way for any of his students. I would def take him again if I got the chance.
The class was fantastic! Pitard was impressive as a scholar and a teacher.
Horrible man! Talks extremely fast and yells all the time. The worst 2.5 hours I've ever had to spend in my life once a week. His grading is unclear and inconsistant. You need a rosetta stone to figure out what in the world he writes, his writing is horrible. His paper topics are not clear at all. His attendance policy is wack. NOT HOT!
This guy seems pretty crazy on the first day of class. He will try to intimidate you to drop out the first week...but hold up and give him a chance. He seems uptight at first but he's actually pretty cool. I will admit the class is tough but not impossible. He's flexible and does give xtra credit. Oh and he's not bad lookin either
Derrick cannot be considered a teacher because he doesn't teach you anything. He just contradicts everything you've ever learned in any other English class. His paper topics are never clear, and once you complete them he tells you that you did them wrong. I'm not sure how they could be wrong, when there was no clear assignment to begin with.
This class is really hard
horrible teacher never helps anyone
Hilarious guy. Strict attendance policy. Discussions are always interesting, so get involved. The work load is terrible. His instructions, while they may be pages long, are never quite clear. He is not an easy grader to begin with, and it complicates things when you never know what he is expecting from you. Somehow got an A, but it was tough.
Possibly the most intriguing English professor you will ever have. His work isn't too hard but you need to dedicate time to research. Very loud, very attention grabbing, definitely NOT a boring English class!
I don't know why people tried to intimidate me with Dr.Pitard. I was nervous because of these comments, and now being in his class i am fine. He encourages for people to meet with him which makes him very helpful & his attendance policy is pretty strict, but don't be lazy,go to class and you're fine. Give him a chance!
Dr. Pitard is another one of those professors who forget his students are taking 3-5 classes other than his. The work load is completely out of control. With a 4.0 going into is his class, i thought i could handle anything. Nope. So much for my 4.0. After his class is over you sit there to yourself thinking..what just happened? GPA Killer.
Leaves you in the dark about assignments and talks about things in his class that no one cares about. Also, the books for one of his classes cost me 220 dollars.
Dr. Pitard is another one of those professors who forget his students are taking 3-5 classes other than his. The work load is completely out of control. With a 4.0 going into his class, i thought i could handle anything. Nope. After his class is over you sit there and think to yourself..what just happened? GPA Killer. Funny guy, though
I really liked this prof he keeps the class interesting and you have to do work but nothing extreme. I personally hate lit but he made the class interesting
Dr. Pitard is a nice guy he is fuuny and nice. But his class is really tough. Alot of work and something is due every class! His directions are basically in another language. Also dont plan on even missing one class. Final paper was 10+ pages. Id suggest taking someone else if you can.
Dr. Pitard is the best english teacher of any kind I've every had EVER. You read a lot which sucks but the books aren't terrible for the most part. 8 one page responses to just anything really, 2 connections about any book we've read, 2 analysis papers which weren't hard. Crystal clear on expectations and how your graded. TAKE HIM IF GIVEN CHANCE!!
Dr. Pitard has favorites. His directions are unclear. You use one topic a semester so choose wisely, you will get bored.
do NOT take this as a night class. ridiculous amounts of reading, impossible to do them all. SPARKNOTES is your friend. very picky when grading your papers. nice guy, just a lot of work. not too bad to look at either :) do your readings, go to class write your papers.
The coursework in this class is very tedious and not helpful at all in my college career. He grades everything unfairly and doesn't give clear instructions for assignments especially the four papers we have to write throughout the semester including the ten page one due at the end of the semester.
He's a real fun professor who knows a lot about the material he teaches. Every class has a lot of writing but after a while you get use to it. Ask him to quote Shakespeare =)
He gives a lot of work. It is not hard, but he grades unfairly so you may get an F anyway. Make sure to pick a topic at the beginning that is substantial to write on. Everything you write is about that topic for the rest of the year. Clearly has favorites and is condescending. Seems to know his stuff but needs to CHILL OUT!!
Same as below...He has favorites. If your not one of them good luck getting help from him. he doesnt explain anything well. This class was a waste of money and my time. I did not learn anything I would recommend not taking him. He is the worst teacher i have ever had!
Agree with people below me. Very hot headed. Hard to understand and not much help at all. He does not no how to teach and he talks at you and not to you. Homeworks take alot of work but if he doesnt liek them then you get no credit at all. Missed one class and took 10 points away. Not a good teacher at all. Will be complaining to sru about him
Pitard is funny, kinda cute, and keeps class somewhat interesting. But i think its interesting because its like he is speaking another language. His instructions are never clear, although he thinks they are. If you ask him a question, he gets mad. I dont think he picks favorites, but he is a really really hard grader.
I really enjoyed Dr. Pitard. He's and extremely intelligent man (not just about English). Pick a topic you really enjoy, but has enough information. Willing to help. Difficult grader, but you deserve the grade you get. Goes into detail when grading papers. Helpful criticism. Use his comments to help you improve. Enjoyed class a lot!
just don't do it. if you can take it with ANYONE else save yourself the misery. very very difficult and not worth the trouble for college writing. you work on one paper the entire time and the overall experience is just awful.
At first I wasn't sure I would like the guy, but I went out of my way to talk to him and ask for help. He's a tough teacher but also excellent at the same time. The work he asks you to do can seem overwhelming at first, but ask for help and you will get it. Very organised and a great class. Definitely taking him for Interpreting Lit!
Dr. Pitard is actually really nice. All you ahve to do is go ask him for help, he pretty much tells you what he wants. Comes off mean at first but he's really not. A lot of work, just don't get behind. If he knows your name and youa s for help, you'll bet an A or B.
Dr. Pitard is awesome. Very helpful in class and out of class. Ask for help and you get it. He tells you what he wants, and how to do it. Go to class, get on a good basis with him and you're in for a good grade.
Good prof.
Dr. Pitard is an amazing prof! He will go out of his way to help you. Honestly my favorite teacher all semester. Do your homework, get it in on time and you'll pass with an A. He tells you what you need to know to get the work done.
Not one of the best profs.
I found Dr. Pitard to be a little bit tough on grading, but that might have just been the fact that I was taking a 300-level course with him. Really nice guy, wants his students to understand the material. Tends to get flustered/confused but generally organized. I'd recommend him.
Class easy, but he's not a decent professor. I went to every class. Never did a reading and just sparknoted it all. I'm a decent writer and wrote all A papers. I got an 89.2% at the end of the semester and he refused to move it to an A and gave me a B. He's very unclear with his assignments and really doesn't care about his students so BEWARE.
He knows his subject material, but he is extraordinarily scatterbrained. He forgets what he said and did frequently. When you email him he is rather condescending as a general rule. He always has this delightful way of making you feel like a child. I am 30 years old and don't have time for it. Ridiculous grader and very unclear. I would avoid
Dr. Pitard is an easy prof as long as you put forth the effort. He is far from an easy A, but that's what makes taking his class worthwhile. I learned so much from taking his class, and wish I had a chance to take more with him. As long as you are willing to work hard, you can excel in his classes.
Pitard is funny and tries to keep class interesting, but there's only so much you can do with Historical Development. It was a pretty boring subject, but he was entertaining. He does this weird thing where he clears his throat mid-word, which I made fun of every class, but he's a nice guy. His tests are very difficult, his papers aren't bad though
Dr.Pitard is a great prof, don't expect an easy A. You must be willing to work hard, read the material, and study. Once you do what is required of you, it is not a bad class at all. I recommend taking him if you can work hard.
Dr. Pitard is a very good professor. He gives you a lot of opportunities to raise you grade and he is not ver hard about due dates. His assignments arent very specific, so I suggest going to office hours. I also suggest going to office hours to review papers, it really helps.
This man was the reason I attended class. I hate English, I think it is stupid from every view. However Pitard got me to realize the point of writing and why it is so important. I had a really good time attending class and doing the projects. One of the most down to earth teachers this campus offers! I would take him again if i had the chance.
He will not bend any rules. If you miss one more day than you are allowed, no matter what your reason (illness, especially) he will not grant you credit, particularly in College Writing. He lacks sympathy. His class caters to young students and my writing did not benefit from his teaching. He will also not round up grades that are on the border.
Makes class interesting and is very helpful if you ever have questions about anything. he is accessible outside of class. overall a good professor.
Pitard is awesome. He does make you work for good grades but is extremely helpful if you need it. He also always picks awesome books to read for class
Ask for help and he will give you everything you need to go from a C to an A.
Dr. Pitard is very smart, and he'll teach you a lot about the history that goes alongside anything he teaches. There are a lot of readings and assignments, which he grades pretty strictly. While his extensive knowledge in his field makes for great lectures, it doesn't always translate in a way that's understandable for the average student.
Dr. Pitard is one of my favorite profs ever. He's absolutely hilarious and makes class go by so fast with his interesting lectures. I genuinely look forward to his class. Although there is quite a bit of work, it's not terrible. Just stay on top of the reading, and you'll be fine.
Pitard is a nice person and tries to make class interesting however he is a very difficult grader. I never knew what he was looking for as far as grading papers. Very strict on MLA and you have to follow rubrics very closely to even get a C. His advice is helpful but you need it for every paper. I would'nt take him unless you're a great writer.
I've always had it easy when it came to writing, but Pitard makes you work your butt off. If you follow his rubrics you will get a C or a B, if you want an A you have to ask for help and really work for it. He made class extremely enjoyable and it made me not want to skip. As long as you don't miss more than 3 days you'll be fine. He's great!
What a tremendous professor. Will literally do anything to help you if you're putting forth effort.
Phenom. He is my absolute favorite professor. Get ready to work, but it is beyond worth it.
Hardest class I've ever taken. Best professor I've ever had. Inspired me to get my Master's.
Dr. Pitard is a great guy. Every class involved sitting in a circle and BSing about random events, making you feel really comfortable. But the grading was absolutely insane. I went above and beyond for this class, but he'd take points off for every little thing that did not agree with how he would write. I don't think it's possible to get an A.
1. A lot of reading. 2. Assignments - vague. Rubric - not helpful. No clear example of what he's looking for. 3. Quizzes - only 10 points each. 2 questions missed - 80%, already. 5. As opposed to establishing a clear quiz date, he asks students when we would like the quiz to be. Very confusing, I still don't know if/when next quiz is.
Avoid taking this professor if you can. This is one of the hardest classes I've taken, and I typically do really well in English classes. Dr. Pitard has the tendency to make you feel like he's better than you, and an A in his classes are almost impossible.
This class requires a lot of reading, and the majority of your grade is based upon writing assignments. The class is mostly discussion based, and he doesn't force participation but it benefits you if you do. He is really passionate about English and is really a great guy. He is funny but also will give good feedback on your papers.
He's a tough teacher. He always seems to carry an air of superiority about him and he is constantly expecting you to be perfect. Not recommended unless Critical Reading is the only class you plan on taking
Hes a very intelligent person and a great teacher / lecturer. Your grade is determined by a few papers and 3 or so quizzes; so be prepared to work hard on all your essays if you want a good grade. Best advice I have is to go into his office hours with all your papers.
Dr. Pitard is an extremely intelligent professor, but does not do a great job getting his knowledge across to his students without sounding condescending. His classes are extremely difficult and achieving an A is almost impossible. Very tough grader. Be willing to work very hard for even a C or B.
I had Dr. Pitard for Critical Reading. Class was mostly a discussion of what we read for homework so it was enjoyable to attend. Essays were not very hard to write and he is always willing to help you during his office hours.
I had four classes total with Dr. Pitard. He is very cool, and worth taking if you love English, reading, theory discussion, history, and writing. These are his strengths and he is very good at them. Make sure your writing skills are on point, because he assigns decently challenging papers. He helped me be a better writer. I would take him again.
Dr. Pitard is intimidating at first, but is such a nice guy. You only have 3 absences for a semester, but if you have an emergency he is very understanding. You get quizzed on the readings you do every night, as long as you spark note you'll be fine. He is super funny and loves to swear. You just have discussions every class. You should take him!
I really enjoyed his class discussions and thought he was hilarious. He also loves to swear during class, but it's never been a problem. However, he is a very tough grader and for example will take points off for every single grammatical error. But, I still feel like I got a lot out of his class.
A LOT of reading and note taking. Keep up and dont fall behind. His class is very difficult and hes a bit of a tough grader. However, hes very funny and kind and willing to work out issues and questions with you to make sure your grade improves.
His rubric are not clear and his feedback is unhelpful. Even when students told him they were having a hard time keeping up he said, oh well that sucks. For someone who loves to assign papers, he can never grade them on time. I got a grade for a paper I turned in before midterms three weeks before finals. You are left in the dark about grades.
Dr. Pitard is incredibly rude and disrespectful of his students. He asks overly personal questions and gives students 0's if he does not like their writing. He yells often in classes and does not respond to emails. I will literally never take this man again.
Does not believe that getting help for papers over email is acceptable. Have to see him for all questions. Will not answer emails!!!!!
1. Never expect to get your papers graded. 2. Rubric is a vague idea of what he wants if you want an above failing grade on a paper then you have to go direct to him. 3. Treats the sensetive material in his books carelessly, and is constantly trying a get his students to say something incriminating. The only English class I've ever dropped.
If you can avoid him do it. He didn't grade our papers even though we only had three weeks of school left. His rubric is vague and unhelpful, he also grades on "improvement" which is impossible to do when you can't see the feedback to your papers. He will also just ramble for a whole class period with no real point.
Doesn't want to teach. All but one week of the 15 week semester we had class one day of the week. 3/4 of each class is him splitting you off into awkward groups with little talking. Didn't grade assignments from the beginning of the class until April, and when he does he grades you like an English major for a 100 level class DON'T TAKE.
His lectures were always so entertaining. He grades hard but you'll do fine if you follow directions and turn everything in on time. Only thing I didn't like was that he often would cut off his students in the middle of their sentences to redirect the conversation.
personality wise, he's pretty good. funny and tries his hardest to get everyone participating. however, he can be incredibly demeaning and will cut you off from speaking often. papers never graded on time, typically I would get a paper back 3 days before our next paper was due. feedback was EXTREMELY unclear. rubrics were unclear. not the best.
He teaches incredibly difficult content, but he really does his best.
The material he teaches is VERY tough to wrap your head around. His grading doesn't make that much sense either (when he does decided to grade your work). BUT he has a big heart and he truly tries his best to reach his students, which I definitely appreciated. Although the class may be hard, cut him some slack cause he's trying too.
He interrupted students when they were explaining answers to questions that he begged his class to answer. As soon as the student was beginning to get somewhere he would cut them off and start talking. His feedback on papers is illegible and he responded with the most vague answers to questions. He he grades very harsh and is always late on grades.
Does not respond to important emails. Expects students to know generations of ancestors in order to write multiple papers. Insanely tough grader and his annotations are nearly illegible. 10/10 would not recommend stay away from this professor if possible.
His instructions for every assignment, specifically the scribbles and papers, are EXTREMELY confusing and unclear. He tries to make it seem like what he's asking for is really simple when it isn't. He also never grades literally anything on time, and is an extremely harsh grader. Overall I would not retake his class even if you paid me to do so.
Dr Pitard has to be one of the smartest people I've ever met. Pitard's a hard grader. You'll have to pay attention in his lectures, do the readings, and take good notes. However, if you do, you'll get the best education you could ever hope for. I highly recommend him, especially for upper level classes--not lower levels.
This class was fairly easy, we had 3 books to read and 2-3 easy quizzes for each book. He is very slow with grading. There are shorter written assignments and when we don't do written ones we do annotations. Harder assignments are 5 page papers. Class periods are NOT lecture heavy and are very interesting. He also is sick a lot and cancels class.
Professor Pitard's class can be challenging, but engaging if you put in the work. Lectures are entertaining, and he's happy to help during office hours. unstuckstudy was a game-changer for prepping for his quizzes and essays.
As an English major, I enjoyed this course. However, it was challenging and his feedback wasn't helpful. He took forever to grade and I thought his grading was inconsistent. But I did think the content was interesting and he was an entertaining lecturer. I would take him again.
Very confusing professor. He would try and explain directions, which most of the time made absolutely no sense. So many weekly mini-quizzes and writing assignments. The writing assignments were awful. He had horrible expectations and graded them very harshly. Also takes forever to grade.
SO interesting to listen to. A little cooky but so willing to help students
I love Dr. Pitard as a person. He is very interesting and covers great stuff. However, I cannot stress enough how tough of a grader he is. Be ready to get a grade below your usual because he is a serial 4.0 killer. Plus, he is horrible at getting grades back to you so you might not know how bad you are doing until its too late.
I really liked this teacher and his lectures they were entertaining we would watch videos or just talk sometimes he can be tough grader, and his feedback and grades are delayed but as long as you try it was okay. He gives extra credit for the quizzes, and they are really easy.
