Miller was very unclear on the material himself, and couldn't ever explain anything.

He was very unclear about his material, showed very little interest. Suggest to avoid.... Not helpfull at all.
If this is the same guy, he was a hick. I didnt have trouble but i also knew a little about algebra to begin with. Other people seemed to have problems with him, i got an A though, and i really dont care for math to much
As dull as a box of rocks. I think i could have taught the class as good as him, but he was easy.
The only interesting part of his class was counting how many times he said stupid sayings. He repeats himself over and over. He would try to draw pine cones and stuff on the board to help with problems... but he was just weird. Not a good teacher at all. Would not reccomend. BORING BORING BORING
do not take his classes! worst teacher at SLU
He is not that bad! Yes, he does repeat himself over and over which gets annoying but he also gives you like 20 pts. worth of bonus on his tests.

He makes up words and his hard to understand sometimes. I made an A in his class because, overall, it isn't too hard. He does help you if you need it. If you're terrible in math, however, do not take him.
horrible INSTRUCTOR.. he isnt even a professor and doesnt know his material.. I would not recommend him to anyone...
He likes to repeat everything-ALOT. His tests are easy though. If you don't mind rambling and stupid jokes, he's an easy teacher.
He is a horrible teacher. He has no idea what he is talking about. IF you have a choice DO NOT take him.

This teacher sucks. He is a hard ass with a funny accent. He obviously does not have a degree in teaching. His techniques are extremely ambigious and he sense of humor is void. Steer clear of this one my friends!!!
He makes bad Analogies. Confuses people who don't understand the material. He doesn't help either
I made an "A" in both his algebra and trigonometry classes.
He is THE WORST!!!! He makes it seem as though he SHOU;DN'T be teaching... Then he just does the STUPIDEST things!! DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN HELP IT!!!!
he was unorganized and didnt really know the work himself
As long as you go to class you should do good I hate math and am bad at it and I made good grades..
I thought he was a great teacher. In my class, those who struggled did not come to class, nor did they do their homework. I'm lousy at math and made mostly A's on my tests. Mr. Miller was a big help to me.
Not good at all.....Plain and simply horrible....He teaches you things on the board and just throws stuff at you for homework and expects you to know how to do everything.....Please Don't take him. If you suck at math like me do not take him....
this guy was terrible! my grade is either a D or an F and i studied my ass off for every single test! if you're not great at math, do not take him. i wasn't scheduled to have him but my schedule switched at the last minute and i completely regret not dropping this class!!!!!
He is a great Math teacher. Disregard other comments. They probably did not go to class!!
I love Mr. Miller! He explains material really well, and is the best math teacher I've had! I recomend taking him. Everyone who does'nt like him probablly never came to class or payed attention. I got a A or B on every test! :
Mr.Miller is awesome. He is very enthusiastic and wants to help everybody. He does give a lot of homework and workbook pages. His tests are challenging, but he lets you retake one at the end of the semester. I would reccomend him
Mr. Miller is a great teacher. He is challenging but fair.
Do not take!
This guy has a very thick country accent. He's a nice guy and he will answer your questions. But sometimes he has a problem with his clarity . He uses extensive Webassign and still gives homework out the book. He grades hard, so don't miss a negative sign or its wrong period.Ok teacher but if you have the choice , choose another! You've been warned
a very sweet man, however he was unclear on material. i found when i asked a question he would do the problem on the board, but iT confused me even more. he is willing to help, but a poor professor. i failed but i am taking his wife who is phenominal! AVOID TAKING HIM AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YOU HAVE A STRONG MATH BACKGROUND!
RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN'S CLASS!!!! I failed his class by two points and lost my TOPS. The worst part about it is that I actually worked my butt off. I got tutored and did all the work. IF YOU SUCK IN MATH DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!! he also doesn't let you use a calculator on the first 3 tests.
HORRIBLE!!!! I had to drop this man's class. Do not take him!
Awful teacher!!! Don't take him! I loved math and made a C in his class not to meantion I dreaded going to class. He is HORRIBLE!! Not a very intelligent teacher, test don't reflect class work. He won't allow you to use calcuators hardley EVER! Ugh STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He was the worst math teacher. He gives way to much homework and his test are really hard. Do not take him!!!
i don't see how people don't like him. i love his class. i am usually awful at math but he helps me make sense of it. i know that if i hadn't gone to the class every day though, i would have been in trouble. i love him. great teacher.
i was a lil freaked out by the whole "no calculator" thing on th first couple test but it honestly wasnt that bad. it was just simple math.. and his homework helps you and brings ur grades up. he isnt the brightest teacher but he is helpful & realy nice and cool. his final is easy if you study. i hate math- but i got a B. i liked him..
Great teacher, very willing to help, material taught and test were the same. Can't use calculator but I learned more that way. Lets you retake your lowest test grade and drops your lowest homework and workbook assignments. Super nice guy.
Enjoyable professor, tries his best to make sure you learn what you need to, but sometimes you have to ask the right questions. Somewhat distractable, but he is a firm believer in 'What you put in is what you get out'.
he was amazing, and funny to watch teach. if you know math or took adv math in high school then hes an easy teacher. if you dont go to class you wont pass.
I made an A only because I would sit in the Math lab all night teaching myself. Miller is a TERRIBLE teacher. Half the time his answers to questions are WRONG! He has no clue what's going on.
Nice guy. He'll definitely help you if you ask any questions. Make sure you take the practice tests bc he'll give you bonus points if you get higher than a 50 on it.
This class was mainly done on the computer. During class he would do problems from the homework that is assigned. He also gives bonus points if you get a 50 or higher on all four of the practice test.
Mr. Miller is a really nice guy--and easy to get along with.BUT he's a terrible teacher. He refers to fractions as "upstairs" and "downstairs."On several occasions, Miller announced he had absolutely NO IDEA what the example problem was, and he was supposed to be teaching it to us!He told us to figure it out our own in the math lab.Do not take Him!
Did you take Advanced math in high school? If so, this guy's class will be a nice review for you. If not, you're in trouble. Do not take him if you need to LEARN college algebra, because the class is literally done like a review of advanced math. Online class now, 3 hours of math lab per week. He's really nice, but not a great teacher.
Please do not take this man! It is apparant that he knows the material but he cannot teach it even if it were to save his own life! I repeat do not take him!!!
This man does not come to class prepared and never had our work graded! To correct the people on here, you don't get "bonus points" you get 1 point and that is department mandatory not Deshea Miller appointed. He can't teach!
He is a really nice person. He will push stuff back on course compass if he feels we didnt have time to cover it. he does give a workbook page every class at then end. So definitely go to class. He doesnt always explain the best but he really does try his hardest. He is very open to questions as well.
Avoid if possible! Does not clearly explain how to arrive to the answers of the problem. Very rude and does not work in favor of students! he confuses hisself while working out problem. I made higher grades on my exams by not going to class. I had to teach myself because he teaches you 7 different ways while making mistakes along the way! Please avoid especially if math does not come easy to you.
He is nice but not the smartest person in the world. He can't teach and you can tell that he doesn't really care about what he is doing. He does push homework back if he didn't have time to cover it, which is good but also screws things up later on.Do not take him!
He is very unclear and moves at a fast pace and very corny and dry
Mr. Miller is different. His favorite phrases are "Idk, maybe, and I guess" He gets confused when working problems. He has the corniest sense of humor. I laugh just because it's so dumb. I REALLY hate having to spend time in the lab but we have to for the class. It's not as bad as everyone says. Math 92 is easy!
Idk why everyone gives him such a hard time on here. I found that he's very helpful. He is very corny but I actually laughed a lot. He really enjoys math and he will answer any questions that we have. He goes slow if he has to. I'd recommend him for math 92 students.
RUN......
Great teacher!!! Idk why everyone doesn't like him. He is very helpful and nice. Take him he is the first teacher ever that actually taught me algebra
Pretty good teacher. He goes over the online homework and works any problems from homework that you may have. He takes forever trying to explain how to do a problem but it helps you understand better. His notes dont really help with homework but he is easy to ask questions to. Good Teacher
Omg! He confused me so much to the point that I didn't want to go to class&nd taught myself at home. He says idk&nd I guess all the time why is he the teacher someone should be teaching him seriously. Run! Avoid his class at all cost. Too bad he was the only teacher open for 155 so I'm stuck with him again. Ughh. Hopefully better luck this time!
DO NOT take him. He is one of the worst math teachers I have ever had. He ends every sentence with "I guess" and is completely unsure of the material himself. I do not understand how he is a math teacher. Also, not to mention he apparently can't tell time either -- I had him for my 8:00am, and he often started class at 7:50am.
NO. Just don't. Don't do it. Think about the worse decision you've ever made and i can guarantee that this will be worse.
He was an terrible instructor. He didnt give clarity on the information he was teaching. He lacks motivation and didnt seem to care if you were able to understand the material.
Do not take him!!! he is terrible! In high school I made an A every year and was very good in math.. when I got to his class I made a C. He is very unsure of the material and sometimes doesn't even know the answer to the math problems! I would not recommend him at all!!!!!
WORST MATH TEACHER EVER, he does not know how to teach!!! I advise anyone NOT to take him!!!
very nice man. very helpful. wants you to succeed. this course was 3 days a week plus 3 hours a week in the lab which is mandatory b/c its graded. there is no lie that math is hard. but he does his best to help you understand. go to every class b/c there is a workbook page due every class. all tests you have to sign up for and take in the lab.
He is not very instructive. He also doesn't remember what he taught in previous lessons. I would not recommend him at all.. He's a nice guy, but not the best teacher.
DON'T take him. Very confusing, goes way to fast, hard to keep up with. Doesn't like stopping his lesson to answer questions. Tells you to just go to lab.
I have failed math 92 three times prior to taking Mr. Millers class. He explains in detail the Math problem and he helped me a lot.
Good teacher, I had him in for 92 and he was very helpful. I recommend that you attend class. A majority of this class is on pearson. If you don't put in the effort, you will struggle, regardless of teacher.
Literally the worst professor at this school. He doesn't know how to work the math problems. His math is extremely messy and unclear. He doesn't care about you as a person. I'm pretty convinced he never went to college, or atleast that's what his knowledges shows him as. His country accent makes it worse. Never take this teacher. NEVER.
Most un-clear math teacher I've ever had. His think country accent with candy always in his mouth doesn't help either. He refers to everything as "that thing" or "uh, this". Also, every single times he finishes a problem it ends with an "uh, I think".
Mr. Miller really expects you to come to class. He covers a lot of material in a short amount of time. He cracks a lot of jokes that aren't funny but he's willing to help if you do the work.
He was awesome. He really really tried to teach me the information and I felt he really cared.. If you show up and show that you care about your grade and are trying to pass he will help you. I have taken college algebra 3 times and never passed and now I have an A in his class. Half the people that dropped never came to class and never studied.
He is one of the best math professors I've had! He shows you the easy way to solve the problems and he really cares about you! I had a personal emergency causing me to miss class and a lot of homework, but he re opened all of it for me and allowed me to make it up. Hands down one of the best!
Overall, Mr. Miller is a great teacher. He goes extremely slow and answers all questions to make sure students understand the problems. He doesn't control the math software, so there's a lot of homework assignments, but he's good with reminding you about due dates. Only thing is he lectures until the very last second, sometimes over the class time.
Mr Miller is good about reopening assignments if necessary. However, he moves very fast with his lessons and expects you to know things before hand. I had a hard time getting used to the way teaches because hes scatter brain and jumps around. I did pretty bad on my 1st test causing me to fall behind and it was hard to catch up and ended up droping
I HATED his class. He expected you to know how to do everything after one example. Was confused himself on how to do the problem half the time. Would not recommend to take
not very good at explaining .
Ended up dropping the class. Worked SUPER hard in math and in the lab and it didnt make a difference. Scatter-brained. Had a personal emergency absence and he couldnt help. Moves too quick. Lots of homework but that's cause MyMathLab reallly sucks. Miller's answer is always "Go to the lab" which isn't always the answer.
Horrible teacher definitely would no recommend
If you are not good at math, take this teacher! he really gets math and understands it's not everyone's hobby. math lab lots of homework but its not bad if you stay on top of it. if you ask questions in class he answers them and helps you to understand. miss classyou will probably not understand hw. make friends in class! teacher & class :)
Worse teacher I have ever had. Does not answer questions, just tells you to ask the teachers in the lab. Seemed very confused himself about material. When brought to his attention that there are easier ways to work problems he says "oh well I don't know about that so we are just going to do it this way", which is usually much more time consuming.
The first thing he tells you is you won't pass. he writes something on the board but tells you to never do it and forget it. sometimes he doesn't understand whats he's saying. He rushes through classes but then he takes 30 minutes to explain the simple things. he also he skips over section, When you ask for help he tell you to go the the math lab.
Professor Miller is an exceptional math teacher, I never missed a class. He makes these corny jokes that I found really funny. Before taking his class, I hated math and was not good at it at all. I passed all tests with A's. Yeah, you're going to have a lot of homework but IT'S MATH, what do you expect?
Great teacher, I'm just terrible at math. Get a tutor if you're in the same boat.
He does not know very much about the material. He sounds very unintelligent when lecturing. You must teach yourself outside of class. He does not explain things very well.
he was a horrible professor and he did nothing to help improve my grade all he did was give off a nonchalant attitude. He proudly said by October 60% of students drops his class.
The class is actually easy for me, but the way he teaches it is kinda not my type... Homework due almost everyday, you cannot miss a day without looking at your mathlab, or you will have to ask him to open it up for you. Cannot miss a day of class, or it's pretty much miss alot! Smart kids won't need to worry.
I actually enjoyed his class and the way he taught math. He was funny without even trying. He shows you how to work every problem step by step & wants you to KNOW the material instead of memorizing it. He helps anyone before & after classes. Theres lots of homework but I think its necessary practice to help you understand the material better.
Best Math Professor to date. I struggle terribly w/ math so, I'm careful when scheduling classes. Mr. Miller goes above & beyond what any professor is required. He spends time w/ you before &/or after class, answering any questions you have. I wish he taught every math and only hope I come across another like him, but we all know they are few:(
He is a very good professor. He helps you with anything you need as far as math. Does get off topic at time though! Overall I would take him again!
Literally have stuff due everyday and gets confused while teaching a lot and will skip steps, overall just very very confusing
Worst teacher ever. I did so well in math lab and on practice tests, but when I took the real test I failed every single one. I even went and got outside help and understood it better and still failed. He gets so off topic and doesn't seem like he knows what he's talking about.
Very good teacher who takes his time while teaching. He goes over practice test before the real test. The only way you can fail this class is if you do not do practice test or pay attention in class.
The curriculum for all students taking this class is the same, so that's really a non-issue. This instructor has tons of notes that you have to print out and instead of teaching, you spend the entire class trying to write down as quickly as he goes over things without much explanation, not to mention his many "squirrel!" moments. Take someone else.
A lot of assignments were online with pearson. When in math lab there were little times that he was also not there. Willing to help with anything.
Extremely boring, uninteresting lectures. I mean I know its math, but whatever life the class could have had is sucked out of it by his dry lectures. I found myself skipping class and watching YouTube videos instead, not because he doesnt explain the material but because I cant make myself pay attention in his class. Take someone else.
solid teacher. explains everything.. willing to help students who missed assignments. you do need to go to class or you will be lost but other then that he is a good teacher
Miller sometimes would show how to solve a problem, then tell you don't use that method which made it confusing sometimes. He moved quick and taught the entire time. Test can be hard, so try to make 100% on ALL homework and quizzes. He explains questions better 1 on 1 in the math lab.
Mr. Miller is a great teacher!! I passed with a 97. The test are not as difficult as everyone says but they also arent super easy. If you spend time understanding the homework, quizzes, and practice test you would do fine. I feel as though Mr. Miller was the best teacher for 151 because we had notes to refer back to and he made everything simply.
Mr. Miller is a great teacher and is very on topic and gets to the point. Yes, you need to print out his notes, but not doing this will make you fall behind. He is very flexible with homework and gives a lot of homework to help you understand. yes, it is a lot of homework, but it really helps! 15 / 10 would recommend!! (plus, he's funny and sweet!)
I took him Fall 2020, half in-person and half online. He isn't very tech savvy, so he takes forever to get his online lectures going. He also complains about random stuff the entire lecture. Pretty much my entire class failed our midterm, and all he said was basically "too bad". He also doesn't explain things very well. Don't take him.
Unclear on what he expects. Assigns a lot of work with little explanation, if he does explain, his examples will be nothing like the work he gives. Hard to reach outside of class.
Very difficult to do well in this class. Though I am not a math person, I am not someone who has ever failed a math class. Material is not explained well. Would not take again.
he literally cursed me out in class. he doesnt help you. his tests are nothing like the curriculum. dont.
His notes are good and he does what he can but 151 in general is a ton of homework and work. The midterm and final are nothing like the review. The math department at Southeastern is something that if you can avoid, you should.
Mr. Miller is a decent teacher, but it's the math department that sucks. So much homework and the tests are awful. Uses Pearson. This is a department-run course, so he doesn't have much say in anything. Avoid the course, but if you have to take it, Miller isn't a bad choice. He will help you outside of class, you just have to ask.
I wouldn't recommend unless you are naturally good at math. If you struggle like me you will be lost. He goes fast and jumps around. He is nice and will explain things and help when he can, but for me it just wasn't enough. I needed someone a bit slower and organized. He is also bad about keeping the class a few minutes past the time class ended.
He isn't too bad. He does move kind of fast, so if you aren't really good at math I wouldn't recommend taking him. However, if you ever have any questions you can ask him and he can be somewhat helpful. This is a new course so try to kind of be understanding. He also has a problem with people having to leave class early which is weird.
I practically taught myself how to do the work. He goes fast when making the notes, so ensure you are paying attention. I took 161, and there were three tests and one final. The tests were hard. He has a specific due date for each assignment. Usually, he will assign a hw, and a quiz will be due the next day or the day after.
This class pretty much has to be self taught no matter who you take. Mr. miller is nice but he can be aggressive and can come off rude, but he does care and tries his best. There is lots of homework and quizzes that can help your grade. Just be ready to put in the work with any professor you get.
mr miller talks about and has a weird humor, but his class was easy. however he tends to over explain things and take two classes for one lesson. not sure why he has such low ratings b/c he really isn't that bad, he just talks a lot
The math department itself is beyond difficult so it isn't too much up to him or any other professor what's on the tests or homework but he does go into very specific detail and gives many examples. He does tend to talk to you like you're in fifth grade and have never did anything yourself ever. He does make it as easy as he can to students.
Mr. Miller was my favorite professor by far. The math department causes you to have a lot of homework (every 107 class had to do these homework assignments). He is very understanding and if you have a question he will explain it. I very much recommend this teacher.
I like Mr.Miller! You either like him or you do not. He is funny but he does talk alot. He will answer any question you have and is willing to help you. You also have to put into consideration that he teachers the curriculum he is given and he does not make the test.
He was very kind, when I was involved in a car accident he was very understanding and ask me how I was doing when I returned to class. He gives a lot of work but that's due to the math department. He talks a lot and goes over the notes very fast.
You will have to learn it on your own. He doesn't teach well at all and you should not take him unless you absolutely have to. Horrible teacher
Miller is a decent teacher, he teaches what he's suppose to teach but that is not what aleks is going to quiz and test you on. He does talk a lot and can take awhile to do one problem. Class is not mandatory but at the end of each class you turn in a workbook page for points so I recommend attending everyday.
If you aren't naturally good with math you will fall behind if you do not go to class/pay attention. He goes very fast and can easily go off topic, but he is open to helping with whatever you need. Lots of homework. I had to drop his class because it was singlehandedly tanking my GPA. I wouldn't recommend his class if you don't need it.
I took Mr. Miller for Math 1070, and he was an alright professor. Everyday there is an assigned workbook page at the end of class that you turn in for a grade. Everything else is done through ALEKS. If you miss a lecture, you will likely fall behind. Teaches thoroughly, but goes at a quick pace. Not forgiving with late work or changing due dates.
Professor Miller can be a bit quirky, but he genuinely cares and is willing to help. The workload is heavy due to department requirements, but using resources like unstuck AI and staying engaged can make this class manageable.
My biggest problem was when he would ramble about things or overexplain, which would put us behind on notes. Granted, he was willing to push back due dates when necessary. He's a pretty decent teacher, but you definitely have to put in work to learn on your own. He's pretty much willing to help whenever you reach out so don't hesitate to email.
Bro is so all over the place it's insane, for someone who is halfway decent at math, it's almost impossible to sit down and absorb what he's telling you. He assumes we should already everything from previous maths and skips over a good bit of stuff in his lecture. He makes things way more difficult than they should be, do not take him.
I do not understand why he gets so many negative reviews. He teaches well and explains very well what he is doing and how to do it. The only compliant I would have about him is that he can be slow at times and the class gets behind schedule. If you are willing to do the work and put in effort you will pass with flying colors.
This professor is who made me want to make an RMP account. His teaching was deplorable. If you don't already excel in math, STAY. AWAY. He is brash, rude, and rambles so much that you WILL fall behind. Be prepared to teach yourself a majority of the material via YouTube videos as well as doing all-nighters. Do NOT take, even if you are desperate.
Mr. Miller was one of my favorite professors! He takes his time to help each and everyone of his students in class and at his office. He has many tricks and catch phrases that help you to remember the little things. TAKE HIM!!!!!
He is a great teacher. I generally don't understand why his rating is so low. He is very nice and willing to help his students. He always ask if you need help and willing to work out problems with you. He will repeat himself from time to time but this help me understand the steps. Overall if you study and stay on top of your work you will be fine.
As someone who does not do good in math, this math class has been easy for the most part. As long as you show up to class, take notes, and do all of your work you will pass. There is 4 tests and one final, but at the end of the semester he will take out your lowest test grade. All of the work is through ALEXS except a daily workbook page
He's rude.
Overall a good teacher, he has a tendency to ramble a lot and he sometimes overcomplicates things but he's a nice dude and a good teacher.
DeShea Miller is not bad, but he isn't good. He does teach everything that ends up on the test, but the way he articulates his words and how fast they rush out of his mouth makes it hard to keep up with him. Halfway through the semester i stopped attending and just stayed in the math lab and did his ALEKS homework, and passed all my test with B's.
