GREAT!!! Enjoyed her class and lectures. Goes off subject at times but it's okay. Makes material as easy and understanding as humanly possible. She gives handouts for the most difficult chapters for the students benefits. She tells you exactly what to expect on the exams with NO tricks. I would LOVE to take her again.
Great teacher. Quite possibly the nicest I've ever met. I failed the class through nobodies fault but mine. I'm taking it over with her.
This class needs a good teacher because it is a lot of content and very interesting but she is not a teacher at all. she teaches sitting on the table and from time to time some notes. She is very disorganized and not recomended. She is not fair in grading.
This rate is for last semester spring 06. she is very nice, but for this class a good teacher is needed. FIU failed to accounting students hiring proffesors that had no experience teaching. I think she is very smart but she can do better. Back on the days" is history, now is 2006.
This professor is the hardest i have taken in FIU, i took this class online and she made us to go to the school to take the midterm and the final plus 2 quizess each week and 4 research paper during the semester and she is very rude and selfish. Don't take any class with her.
Very Rude and hard professor. Don't take any class with her.
This teacher is very tough and grades you very hard. She dosen't lecture a lot in class and expects for you to read the textbook on your own. Be prepare fro 3 quizzes, 100 question mid term and final and at least 10hrs of homework per week. She is very hard!!!
As far as teaching goes, she's pretty hard to follow. At this level, 90% of learning comes from the book anyway. Her exams are difficult but not impossible (and multiple choice), and she gives 10% for attendance, which helps a lot.
I don't agree with some of what's been said. She is FAR from rude. I found her to be nice & helpful. Someone said, "she expects you to read the book on ur own." Who else is gonna read ur book? This is college & at this level, the material itself is challenging. For her 1st time teaching this class, she did OK. Tests are not that hard & she curves.
I took this class last semester. I had done well on the first accounting. The professor is terrible and very rude. Whoever is taking this professor, I would suggest two think about it twice... before taking it
I really like her. She talks a lot but she is very nice and helpful, could be rude but ina funny way.she lectures out of the book so if you prefer the power point type of Prof. you wont like it. She knows her stuff has real world experience and gives many examples. I would recommend her, she is FAIR...but study ;)
She is an amazing teacher. She cares for you if you care for her class. Take her if you really do want to do well and learn.
Don't believe the lies. She's GREAT! Can be a bit rude but in a sarcastic, funny way. You'll love her. Tests aren't that bad; it is ACG so you need to study. 3 exams, 1 project. She doesn't always curve. She really cares about you and wants you to learn. She also likes to talk about past experience at BK and also her personal life. Avoid Sharma!!!
This class is hard but Prof. Elias makes it interesting. She will give you a lot of examples and guide you through the material. She is a great professor!!!!. If you take her class you will learn a lot like I did.
I took this class in summer 08. She is awesome, funny and very sarcastic... I actually had fun during her lectures. I wish she would teach more classes. But you need to study, Accounting aint easy at all.
She was okay - real boring and not friendly.
Prof. Elias is great. She does an amazing job in explaining the material. However, as with all accounting classes you need to read the book chapter before the class. It will help you get the most out of her lectures. She is the kind of professor that wants her students to succeed academically and professionally. Therefore, be ready to be challenged.
Super intelligent, witty, fair and very nice personality. Makes you feel like it is upper division college course. Constantly tries to come up with new ways to explain material. As far work it is your typical ACG class: quizzes every week, group project, 2 midterms and a final.
Very rude, self centered, loves making things complicated. Hard grader, and not very willing to answer questions for clarity. 'Didnt I just say that .. ugh!' Likes making students feel dumb .. horrible person and professor
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. VERY BORING LECTURES, A LOTS OF SARCASTIC COMMENTS
Overall shes a good professor if your an independent student. (Meaning you dont NEED a prof.) Shes very knowlegable on the subject and can explain practically anything with refering to the book. For those who think she is self-centered and sarcastic, your just mad because you didnt do well in her class because shes trip. Sense of humor is required.
Great Professor. Extremely knowledgable and very willing to explain and help, it's to your own advantage to ask for her help. Very fair in grading. She is sarcastic but only in a funny way. If you are not prepared, you will definitely have a hard time.
I'm surprise to see good comments about her. I will never take another class with her. She spends the whole class talking about her experience at Burger King and other unrelated things,is not helpful, and very rude. She is a bad professor with a very bad attitude.very unprofessional
I'm surprise to see good comments about her.
She is always late to class, and yes she does talk a lot about her experiences. 2 tests, daily quiz, and an end of the year project. Tests are HARD and she moves on to other chapters fast. Shes a good professor but the class is not easy.
Best Accounting teacher that I ever have. I really like the way she explains the material. She knows what she is talking about and uses the accounting language whe she is giving a lecture.
I took her class in Summer 2011. she is very fun and knowledgeable and really know how to use the accounting terms when speaking. She is great and always willing to help. What I like the most about her is that she doesn't mind being challenge by her student. She is very nice and will go to bat for a "good" student.
I took this course online bc by the time my enrollment appt came around this was the only course available. I am sad to say that I feel as I have learned nothing. She had so many technical issues. I would recommend you take class on campus. She also seemed annoyed when we could not hear her via adobeconnect. I dont recommend!!
Amazing class!! much better if you do not take it online though. she will help you out with what ever you need. most of her online students dont know but she is damn hot for her age. but dont lets her looks fool you, she really knows her stuff.
Professor Elias is a wonderful professor. Her class is better to take in person than online. She is funny and willing to help anyone but you really gotta study for her tests. Read the book 15-20 hours a week to prepare yourselves.
She must be logging on here to write positive comments about herself. That's the only thing I can think of.
If youre taking this class online, good luck. I pretty much taught myself accounting this semester. You have to put a minimum of 10 hours a week to understand the material completely in order to pass the exams. She literally tells you that this will be the hardest course of your college curriculum. Take this course at Dade if possible.
Horrible lady! You HAVE to learn on your own!! Her lectures were useless to me & if the audio doesn't work, don't expect another recording from her. Do well on the hws, quizzes, & project (worth 40%). Midterm is easier; final was mostly on ch8... use a tutor if possible. And YES, you do NEED between 16-20 hrs of study per week to even pass.
She does't prepare you for the exams.HW & Qz are deceiving, way easier than the exams which are very tricky(Made by fiu not the prof). Her exam reviews are helpless.Be ready to put over 10 hr a week to teach yourself. The subject is hard, but it would be better to have a teacher that guides you and preps you for it. btw 40 outof 68 failed the midterm
Worst prof I've EVER had. She is really sarcastic which makes her very unapproachable and makes students less likely to ask her for help. Her study aids for exams are discouraging since each of them have a disclaimer that reads: this study guide only has SOME of the topics on the exam. Like why can't you give us a study guide w ALL topics?????
Professor Elias provides the students with practice tests, study guides, and has extended office hours. She replies to emails promptly and answers questions in class when in doubt about something. The class itself is not easy, but with lots of practice, it will be easier to pass the class. Going to class helps as well.
ACG2021 is pretty hard, and Prof Elias is a really one of the best. She goes out of her way to help students. She basically gives and teaches you everything you need to pass. I have friends in other classes who take the extra study materials she gives our class because of how useful they are. Do the work the way she says, and you will pass.
Hardest classes I have ever taken. She is helpful as a person; meaning she will give the class study guides, practice questions, etc. But she is a horrible teacher! Lectures are long and boring because she just shows off her expert knowledge. Prepare to spend hours trying to teach yourself the material. VERY hard exams too! Accounting is very hard.
This is my 4th time taking this professor, the course itself is very difficult and require a lot of time and practice. Furthermore, I like taking this professor because she makes time for us and care that we learn and understand material. The class is straight forward all you have to do practice the homework, quizzes, post questions and you PASS!!
This is my 4th time taking this professor, the course itself is very difficult and require a lot of time and practice. Moreover, I like taking this professor because she makes time for her students and care about her student on how the learn and understand the material. Do the hw, quizzes, post questions, study guide online and you will Pass!
The course itself is very difficult and require a lot of time and practice. Moreover, I like taking this professor because she makes time for her students and care about her student on how the learn and understand the material. Do the homework, quizzes, post questions, study guide online and you will Pass!
Hard class. Good Professor. She respects her students. She has flexible office hours and she is always willing to help you. Again, it's a tough class because the material is hard.
The class itself is time consuming and you must read and practice. The professor does her best to help, but you still have to put in the work and time. Online weekly quizzes and hw. Midterm and final are worth 60% in total but if you understand the material and study guide you'll be fine. Attend class!
Great teacher, really knows her stuff. Weekly online HW and Quizzes really helped me the most. She really gives you so many things to studypractice from whether its from the online HW or study guides, power points, practice problems. etc. I would definitely taker a class with her again.
Difficult class, great professor! It is a hard subject but if you put in the effort and utilize all the resources given by the professor you will pass. It is essential to complete all the HW and mid-week quizzes. It will help your final grade. The professor is always willing to help. STUDY! STUDY! STUDY!
Accounting is the Weeder Class of Business. If you take it with a math oriented professor, you're cooked. Elias is more business focused and gives you the essentials, understanding what you need to have a basic knowledge of accounting. If you do the work, you'll pass. If you don't, you won't. She makes it really simple! She answers emails quick too
Class is very boring and she lectures until the very last second or sometimes makes you stay past class time. She loads you with homework that in the end does not really help you for the midterm and final exam because it is all in a different format. She tries to be nice and helpful but more than half the class either dropped or failed. So goodluck
Sadly she is only online now but i recommend you take her online than do any of the grad students who are teaching in person!! She is an amazing teacher and will help you pass the class, STUDY for the midterm its not as hard as the final. she knows her stuff. She is amazing, best accounting teacher, the project is not as hard as it seemseasy grader
No need to show up to class as this professor does not know how to teach. Overall awful experience, you must teach yourself and just study everyday to pass this class. Test given by FIU so there's not much she does to help. HW, pre and post quizzes each week (3), and a project that's easy. If you have other options you should take them.
Good professor, but not significantly tuned in. Weekly chat sessions were more annoying than helpful. 25 pages of reading (+-) per week, midweek quiz, end of week quiz, and homework. Although this will be your primary workload, midterm and final are worth 30% of grade each. Midterm was padded with 10 extra questions. Use the exam review to study.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER. DON'T TAKE IT ONLINE BECAUSE SHE IS THE ONLY TEACHER. I had to teach myself accounting. When you ask her questions, she will answer it in two seconds and good luck to you trying to find those answers. She is RUDE. She probably did NOT write her syllabus because she does not follows her own rules.
This teacher is awful. It's the worst class I have ever taken. lots of work between mid-week, homework and quiz. Study the reviews for the exams. They are SUPER hard. Her clarity is awful. This was a fully online class and she still had in-class reviews that weren't recorded or much less posted for online students to be apart of.
I am NOT an accounting major and had taken this class before to no avail. Prof. Elias definitely goes above and beyond to make sure that you understand the material and has no problem re-explaining whatever you need in a way that you truly understand. The class was difficult, but she is there to help. Use the resources she provides, it truly helps.
Not only does she care about her students, but she is extremely helpful if you go talk to her. She has years of accounting experience and it really shows when she teaches because she brings real world examples into class in order to teach the material better. Take this professor, she is tough but she cares more than any professor I've ever met.
The laziest professor I've ever had! Avoid her! She's awful! You have to teach yourself EVERYTHING!!!
Professor Elias gives a practical approach to teaching the subject matter. She encourages her students to come prepared for class and uses quizzes of this weeks lecture to do so. I highly recommend any professor for ACG4111, however Elias will prepare you better for the theory portion of the class.
Great overall experience.
Took online. Gives plenty of material to study from, a lot of homework to prepare.. But she does not teach in my opinion. Needs to do more example problems instead of going over the definitions. Had to teach myself. Exams were difficult.
This class was pretty difficult and requires a lot of hours per week just on the homework, midweek assignment and post quiz. Although the content was challenging at times, she failed to help or clarify anything. If you take this class be prepared to spend plenty of time teaching yourself.
Ridiculously hard for a 2000 level course. In my opinion she doesn't teach a single thing and expects too much in return. Lots of homework and difficult exams. There is a group project "online" if that makes any sense. She expects a minimum of 10-15hours a week dedicated to her class only. lol like we dont have other courses to worry about
This class will only be hard if you don't make the commitment required to learn the material. Yes, there is a lot of reading and three online assignments due every week. She went above and beyond to make herself available to help students, but no one takes her up on her offer. Don't complain if you don't do the work or seek help.
Accounting is a difficult subject and although it is my field of choice, not the most interesting. She provides real life examples and makes sure students understand the material covered. I took her for the entrance exam review class and passed. I will be looking for her when I register for accounting classes.
Mrs. Desiree Elias gives way too much HW and Quizzes with very little to no explanation to each. She will heavy relay on you, the student, you be self-motivated, self-taught, self-'everything.' She is literally there to simply re-state what she has already stated in her syllabus, no-feedback other than she expecting you to teach yourself from the b
She is hands down an amazing professor. There is lots of work involved, reading the text book, mid week assessments, quizzes and homework each week. Proctored midterm or final, which you can take in person with her. She even prefers you to take it in person to answer any questions. Got a 68 in midterm and 58 in final and still got a B-, so take her
The class is tough regardless of which professor you take it with. I would recommend her. She truly cares about her students. Professor Elias brings real world examples to class to help students understand the material. Take her!
Prof Elias is extremely diligent & dedicated in her curriculum delivery. She left zero gaps thru out the entire semester. I always knew what was expected of me and if I struggled on any topic, she was thorough in providing resources/additional help/material. Treat this class as you wld a job in the real world and you'll do great.
I almost had to drop the class due to extreme extenuating family medical circumstances (verifiable - don't take advantage). She has been extremely accommodating. This class isn't an easy A, but she preps everyone from day one on how to study efficiently. She is available way more than most in-person professors let alone online. STUDY!!
3 assignments every week (2 quizzes 1 hw). You are pretty much on your own to develop study habits on a weekly basis. If you need help, she is very helpful. There is a midterm and a final, which if you do the hw and quizzes with honesty they will prepare you greatly for the exams. She does reviews after each 3 ch. in person but records them as well
I came into this class knowing nothing about accounting and now I have learned so much thanks to her! Although this class is very hard and requires a lot of study time, she gives great study recommendations, emails you weekly to keep up with the class, is extremely organized and is always available to help. Recommend 100%!
I loved this professor. At first I was afraid of taking accounting online and It was a breeze for me.. make sure to read every chapter assigned and complete homework ahead of time so that you don't fall behind.. Study at least 8 hrs a week and you will be fine.. You have a midterm and a final.. if you get at least 50% on the final you pass!!
ACG 2021 is a tough class. This class will determine if you are serious about pursuing a business degree. She assigns a lot of homework and quizzes so you keep up to date with the material, so its for the best. She is accessible if you need extra clarification via email or in person. I would definitely recommend her.
I took this class in the summer and it was harder than regular semesters bc it's shorter by 4 weeks. This is the hardest class I've ever taken but Prof. Elias helped us get through it with her lectures. She tells you what to focus on, and she's considerate with students who stay till the end of the class. Don't underestimate 4111, you won't pass.
This professor is great, she'll help if you need it. Really just ate **** in class and studied the week of exams so take my review with that in mind. Accounting teachers are there to explain something if you do not understand the reading IMO not to teach.
Amazing Professor. ACG is a subject that requires full dedication outside of class. No matter what professor u take, class lectures will NEVER be enough. EVER! That being said, Desiree makes ACG simple. Doesnt lecture off powerpoints. Covers material in the simplest way! She really makes accounting easy. I'd take her for every class if i could!!
Accounting is hard so take it with her, she cares and knows what she's talking about. If you failed it once already take her! you get a lot of homework and midweek assignments and quizzes to keep your grade up. theres no way you didn't know you were gonna fail bc she literally tells you if your failing or not and how to not fail
Great professor for accounting. She is understanding and helpful. Midterm and final on proctorU. Hw and quizzes on Pearson. Not that bad hw and quizzes once a week due Sunday.
Professor Elias is very intelligent, she makes accounting easy to understand. I can tell that she is passionate about teaching and truly cares about her students. She can be sarcastic but is a very kind person. ACG4111 is a tough class, it doesn't matter who you take it with, you need to work really hard to pass. I would recommend prof Elias.
Average.
Take Elio. He gives 9% extra credit overall and Desiree only gives 2%. He writes the tests so he gives hints while Desiree can't. Her quizzes are harder and gives less time. Very unfair. Desiree is a way better professor though. She is very dedicated and passionate about teaching. I regret taking her but at least I understand the material.
She is a real university level professor. Definitely isn't some online professor that's there for a paycheck or a research professor that doesn't like teaching. She's a great lecturer and knows how to explain concepts. Witty too. It's a hard class though so prepare to spend A LOT of time on it. More so than 4101.
She is the most knowledgeable professor I have ever had. If you listen to her, study on a daily bases she is awesome and you will pass the class for sure. She is extremely smart and will help for anything you nee. Love her so much!!!! Even before I started the class I thought she is irritating, but I was soooo wrong!
Accounting is a TOUGH course, one of the hardest I've taken so far. Professor Elias understands that not all of her students are majoring in accounting, and sets up her course so that even if you don't pass the proctored exams, you can still pass with a C! She will work with you to help you pass. If you're willing to work, I'd 100% recommend her.
This class requires a lot of time, she gives 3 extra credit points if you complete long tedious extra learning assignments. Also if you have a 79 or a 69 you're out of luck because she doesn't curve at all, not even 1 percentage point.
I still don't know what I am doing in this class but I so far have an A in this class because I'm a Slytherin duh anyways There is 3 hw every week kinda hard but you can get an A but highly recommend to get an A on those and then the midterm and test u just need a 50% I didn't know anything but I found a way which I am not going to tell u heheheheh
She is a great teacher! Take the class. I took her spring 2019 online. On day 1, she tells you her class is HARD, but if listen to her tips, study, do the assignments, then you will PASS. You have homework, pre/post quizzes on each chapter weekly, and 3 proctored exams. If you do the assignments and quizzes, you can fail all tests and still pass!
This class was miserable and the professor did not help by making it any better. The homeworks are excruciatingly long with no correlation to the exams and it doesn't teach you anything because you barely have enough time to get the work done, never mind prepare for the heavily weighted exams. Teacher also gave attitude when asked for help.
She does not care about whether her students pass or not. Don't bother taking her if accounting is not your strong suit and you need help
Mrs. Elias is one of the best professor of accounting I have taken . Class is tough but her explanation makes to understand the difficult concepts. Shes fair grading. I don't lie, it's hard, even more if it is summer, but if you study hard you can pass with A or B.
Might as well teach yourself! Goes over a ppt in class and sometimes does one long problem yet the tests are nowhere near that format. Talks more about her days in BK & EY than actual accounting. Always read the chapter before going to class!
Terrible! In my entire life I have never encountered such a bad professor. She is about as lazy as one can get. Please avoid her or you'll hate your life until the course is over. Her homework is extremely time consuming and the quizzes have nothing to do with any of her material. Exams are impossible. She very rude to students and refuses to help!
Get ready to teach yourself! I had to hire a tutor and look up youtube videos for help. She does make the topic a little bit easier but not as much. The way she teaches I would sum up like this: does long problem part of the hw and teaches from there, and uses CPA questions not from the book and teaches there too. Gives extra credits at the end
Elias is very smart & has a lot of knowledge to share about accounting but if you're not trying to be an accountant in business, don't take this class. She treats this class as if you're majoring in accounting when you really just need an overview of the topic to understand. Definitely take someone else or wait the next semester if she's available.
She's the best Accounting Professor I've had. She is a professional that knows how to teach and she's devoted to helping her students. She explains great! whatever she explains in class, its in the exam. there's quizzes every week on the chapter but it helps practice and keeps on track w/class. She is also quite funny..
My honest review: She gives 2 quizzes a week, extensive hw, 3 tests, and a final project. (Some extra credit) Tests are about 25% each of your grade. You can easily get A's on Hw and quizzes->Drops lowest grades. Tests are closed book. Test 2&3 only 1 page for notesratch paper. None for the 1st. Def. Study HARD. Can get an easy B with hard work.
Professor Elias gives you every chance to succeed. The course is pretty work-intensive but she provides guided reading notes, Zoom lectures, and tons of practice questions to prepare you. Tons of extra credit opportunities. She also genuinely cares about her students and their wellbeing.
I was afraid of this class because of what everyone said, but its definitely manageable. Its by no means an easy course, but prof elias offers extra credit and tools to help you be successful in her course. Id 100% take her again and recommend her! Go to her zoom exam reviews she basically tells you exactly what will be on the upcoming exam!
Unfortunately I was only able to take her online because of Covid, but she set forth clear expectations for the class and provided many resources to study from. Generally speaking, accounting tests aren't something you can cram the day before and expect a passing grade. In order to succeed for this class you will have to commit everyday to study.
This class shouldn't be that difficult, but Prof Elias makes it really hard. She knows a lot but does not know how to transmit it. The class takes a lot of work and time. The only advantage of this class is that if you do well on assignments and not that good on exams (3 proctored) you can pass.
Professor Elias is a great professor at FIU. She makes sure we know the "Big-ticket items" on the powerpoints which is really helpful. She gives out CPA questions during class for practice. I personally love her teaching. Also, review your exam with her. She lets you know where you went wrong at
This isnt a class where you can cram the night before, you have to be dedicating a few hrs to it every week. Prof Elias does a lot to help you, extra credit and lots of hws that help your grade a lot. She also has great reviews and resources that will help you a LOT with the tests. Put in the work every week & especially during test week.
Would never wish you to have this professor, not because of who she is as a person, but her lack of knowing how to teach.
Took this class via zoom during corona virus. The lectures were mandatory and basically useless. For the first several weeks she wasted the first 30 minutes of every class talking about the corona virus. You NEED to be ready to put in the time (outside of class) and teach the material to yourself. Use quiz scores as feedback.
Professor Elias was a great teacher. She really tries to help. Always responds back to emails quickly. The subject matter is no walk in the park and will require time and effort from you. Every single adult should be motivated to learn this extremely relevant subject to better understand their own finances, taxes, and investments.
Class consists of weekly quizzes, 3 exams, and extra credits. Attendance is mandatory, but you're going to end up teaching yourself. The exercises on the book and homework are long and time consuming. During the first 30 minutes of class she complains about students and their low grades. Average class, not much of a choice between professors.
I took this class fully online so i pretty much taught myself. She gives a lot of resources for each chapter to help you but if you don't have discipline to keep up with reading/taking notes each week, don't take the online version. There are 2 quizzes and 1 homework on Pearson a week. She is available to help but in general its a hard class.
This class requires alot of time for homework and quizzes, Each chapter has 1 pre quiz one homework and one post quiz. She is very open that this is tought class and does not sugar coat it, but her lectures are all over the place and she does not teach at all. The expectations are for you to read everything and teach yourself. Do all HW to pass.
How I studied: For HW, use help me solve this feature to learn, read ch, study QC Quiz in book, watch her past lecture vids, attend her optional meetings, go to tutoring appts at least 1x/wk (its free). Use acg2021fiu dotcom to help you through exam 1. Prepare to dedicate 15-30 hrs/wk. Use syllabus wk wisely. Grading structure is more than fair.
She is a very good professor and wants you to pass but you have to make sure to do all of your work if you are not the best at accounting, I did all of my homework and quizzes as well as extra credit and still got a C+, you really have to study and understand the subject very well.
This professor is HORRENDOUS!!!! She does not have respect for her students and acts like she hates life. This university should plan on replacing her if they would like to improve. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR!!!
Give her a chance. Although she has a poor rating here, the problem is the class itself, not her. This intro class for non-accounting majors covers too much. She has appealed to reduce the curriculum with no luck. The biggest problem is Pearson. The text and online tools are terrible. Very tough class, huge time suck.
I took her online, so idk how her lectures are, but I had some meetings with her and she was very rude and belittling when I would ask for help. There is a lot of tough homeworks and quizzes on mylabs, but exams are the vast majority of the grade. If you don't do well on the exams, there is not shot of passing the class, even with other good grades
This class was ridiculous, so hard, homework takes 2-3hours per chapter, graded heavily on the 3 exams so if you don't do amazing you basically tank your grade.
Very difficult with homework that would take 3 hours to complete. With both pre and post homework quizzes. I did well on the homework but missed a few of the assignments because they are not posted to canvas. The professor as said by other reviews is rude and answers questions in a belittling and arrogant tone. You will only pass by exams.
I took the online class on Pearson. This is a pretty challenging class but the grading scale honestly helps most people to pass. Homework each week with a pre-quiz and post-quiz. Three exams are done on honor lock and a project/extra credit modules. She has a chat each week and is helpful but to understand the material you need to read & study.
The WORST professor at FIU. Completely rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. FIU is doing a major disservice to its school of accounting by having this woman as a Professor. I have never had a professor so out of line and flat out hateful. I will make sure to tell everyone to take this class with any other Professor but her. I am appalled.
Prof Elias is genuinely one of the worst profs/ppl I've had the displeasure of knowing. I had a few zoom meetings w her & she would spend the entire meeting heatedly berating me ab what I did wrong rather than help me improve. The work was manageable but I opted to drop the class as she was insufferable and not worth ruining my mental health or GPA
The class is really made up of 3 exams that are done on Pearson with Honor lock. There was a homework assignment, pre-quiz, and post-quiz assignment due every week. Homework was hard. Overall the professor was nice, but the curriculum does not set students up for success, especially those new to accounting. Hardest class I've taken.
If you take this as an online class get ready to teach yourself and rely on the internet as your only savior. The reviews are accurate. The homework is a headache to do each week. The exams are stressful and through honorlock. Be ready for a hard class with her. Overall would recommend a different professor for this class or just take it in person
Its really just accounting and the material that is forced down our throats that make this class hard, but the professor is easy. There are proctored exams that you HAVE TO pay 5 dollars for each time (theres like 4). The tests are not like the book or the study modules, but the professor is really great and quick to respond.
If you are looking for a understandable and lenient professor, look somewhere else because you won't find it in Prof. Elias's class. Online class recordings and lectures are useless and you are better off finding a good tutor. Exams are brutal and extra credit work is no help to grades at all!
If you are taking this class online you will have to learn everything by yourself! The lectures are not useful. But if you are good with numbers and don't mind spending 8+ hours every week (what she recommends) to study the material then you should be good. There is an online textbook and also my math lab ($) where most of the work takes place.
First thing you have to know, class is hard. The material itself is hard no matter who you take it with. Since the class is hard you would imagine prof Elias would try to make it easier on students NOT HERE. More than 60% of the grade is made up of the 3 exams (proctored) then a small % of hw, quiz, etc. She gives extra credit but it's so small.
Terrible professor, Terrible assignment structure. Homeworks are just horribly set up and your learn nothing. The grading is strict so there is no room to brethe. I really recommend any other professor it will save you having to repeat the class.
I'm a strong student & am mostly indifferent about professors. After a few zoom meetings, I absolutely couldn't stomach her tone & the way she talks to young people like she is better than them. She is condescending & rude no matter your question. Not kind. The few times I emailed her a question, I could feel her condescending tone through the email!
Professor Elias is by no means a "nice" lenient teacher. The homework requires an average 15 hours a week and exams are challenging, but I think this is the exact appropriate workload for an advanced financing accounting course should have. And also, she delivers amazing lectures that really explain all the important details of this course.
This is not an easy class but she delivers amazing lectures and truly cares. I honestly like the challenge of her class but then again i like the subject. I love the way she teaches. Only thing is you will be studying everyday!
The class in general is HARD, if you study all resources and naturally understand the subject you'll be good. If your a regular business student without majoring in acc. you'll probably find it hard. Its a lot of work, I barely passed and many don't pass the class. She does give some extra credit and seems nice. She does answer emails quickly.
Her online teaching methods aren't very helpful or effective when it comes to teaching. She just gives us some forms to read and some PowerPoints. Many students in the course have also failed her class.
This professor is god awful! Tough grader and DOES NOT know how to teach! She's not very good at explaining or teaching. I don't understand how this woman is able to thrive in her job. I'm not impressed with her professionalism. For someone who's accomplished in corporate, she's not very detail oriented.
Something to keep in mind is that the class is ENTIRELY SELF-STUDY. In addition, this is not an easy class and her grading scale is brutal if you score bad on the exams. However, she does host a zoom to answer questions weekly and gives resources before each test. Would only recommend taking this class if you are prepared to set aside hours a week.
She is super condescending and laughs when you tell her you would like to aim for an A . In my first meeting with her I asked her what is the best way I can study so I can get an A. She laughed. And after the first test, I had another meeting, and instead of helping me understand, she acted like I was dumb for getting them wrong. Stay away.
she scammed me. average grade on exam was a 65 and she didn't curve it.
Professor Elias is one of the hardest profs at FIU. Accounting is already one of the most challenging classes for business majors, and she makes absolutely no effort to help. The first introductory class she said "It is HARD' to get a 58 in the course, and to spend 10+ hours a week on homework. Laughs at students questions & is a lockdown dictator.
Amazing Professor who explains complex topics in simple words. Very respectful of students. Understands religious obligations. Gives very clear directions to you to follow. Would definitely take her again.
Considering how difficult the context is, Desiree does a great job of teaching it. The class in general IS hard my class got decimated by the first exam & you do have to really commit time to this class. Very helpful, worked with me even though I work full time with 4 classes. Enjoyed her lectures & felt like we made accounting enjoyable -Anthony:)
Do not take this professor! Exams are extremely hard to pass, gives 1% of extra credit, and she is does not explain things very well and is condescending. Exams make up 85% of your grade and the rest is based on quizzes. Look elsewhere!
Professor Elias genuinely cares about her students. She has a unique way of explaining concepts. She truly cares about our learning and emphasizes understanding and applying the material rather than just memorizing it. She is definitely the best professor I have had since starting at the university.
4111 is hard, She makes it doable. The lectures, the content, and everything that Elias puts into her course, truly does help. She gives you a literal outline of what to do, and it's the guide on how to pass. Not only that, you'll come out actually knowing the content, rather than just having a grade. Truly the best professor at the school of ACG.
Her class is difficult, but she gives you everything you need to pass. She uploads recordings of the lectures, so if you're still confused about the topic, you can watch them. The recordings and CPA questions were especially helpful when reviewing for exams. She will let you review your exams. I thought she was quite funny. 2 pts for extra credit.
This was my second class with her and she was stellar again. If you just do what she says she will pass. ACG4111 is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken way harder than 4101 but Prof Elias makes it much less stressful telling you exactly what you have to do. No reason you don't pass this class if you have the discipline to do what she says.
Don't be frightened by the negative reviews. Anyone can pass this class with an 'A' by using her condensed powerpoint notes. The class itself is interesting as it covers the basic language of business. She is also accessible outside of class and always willing to help.
By far the worst math/accounting instructor I have ever had. I did not learn one thing from her lectures, had to teach myself- and she was so CONDESCENDING. Laughs at students when they have questions and told us to expect 10 hours+ of homework a week (Regular Session). Exams are Honorlock and she enjoys looking for discrepancies. AVOID AVOID AVOID
Elias does a decent good job teaching and gives multiple resources and questions to help practice. Before class you really should read the chapter and do the questions she tells you to do. The main thing is if a there is a topic from a previous ACG class she will not go over it, she will say you should know this. If you try and study you will pass.
