Dr. Griffin is literally the BEST psych teacher I've EVER had. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she gives random quizzes for attendance. She makes the class easy to follow and hard to fail. If you like bubbly teachers... She's perfect.
Great teacher, interesting to listen to.
She is a very clear and engaging professor. Assigns Poll Everywhere questions during class as a way to check attendance. She gives extra credit before exams and the final is not cumulative.
I feel mentally exhausted after sitting through her lectures because she talks sosososo fast. But that's just me.
You know those test questions you read, and your first reaction is: "This is just meant to trick me." She likes to give a lot of those. My final grade suffered because of that reason, in large part. Ridiculous.
There is textbook reading almost every night, but if you like psychology then it will be fine. She talks very very fast so you have to listen carefully or you will miss information. She is a bubbly person and enjoys her job you can tell. the exams are not too difficult, but you do need to study a lot because there are some tricky questions!
She gives very interesting lectures and the materials are easy to understand. There is homework before every lecture, but less than my other classes. HW typically takes 45 minutes to do, and prepares you for lecture and exams. I think exams are a bit tricky, you really have to understand the material not just recite it. She's a wonderful lecturer!
Dr. Griffin was an amazing intro to Psychology. She was very clear in lectures, used PollEv to keep us engaged, and made it very easy to get a good grade. The reading was very reasonable, and she gave guided reading questions for every class. If you do the homework, pay attention during review, and participate, you will get an A.
Overall great class.
Her class is very engaging and interesting and she is wonderful lecturer. The homework is very reasonable and it gives a helpful outline to be prepared for class and to help with exams. The exam questions are kind of tricky you just need to read them carefully and really pay attention in class. Overall great class.
I LOVE PROFESSOR GRIFFIN!! She is a fantastic lecturer and the class is very easy. I didn't study much and got a 99% as my final grade, just keep up with the online homework, the final isn't even cumulative. The class was an easy A but it was so interesting, and Professor Griffin is entertaining and engaging. Highly recommend any class with her!
Quite a bit of homework each night, but the textbook is easy to follow with guided reading questions. The exams are straightforward and doing an ample amount of preparation beforehand will guarantee a good grade. Best prof, makes psych really interesting! Definitely recommend.
Class is not that difficult. There's reading each night and easy homework quizzes, but you can miss questions and still get a 100 on the quiz section at the end of the semester. The exams are easy if you study. Don't skip the lectures, she uses poll everywhere to gauge attendance, and the lectures are very informative and helpful. Would recommend!
She is very passionate about the subject of psychology and definitely knows her stuff. She provides a lot of opportunity to pass and if you keep up with the homework and re-read the powerpoints before her noncumulative test, you should get a good grade.
Dr. Griffin is an amazing lecturer. The various videos (The Office and other TV shows/movies), PowerPoints, and PollEverywhere questions included in her lectures make the class fun, dynamic and interactive. Study the PowerPoints to perform well on the 3 exams, which include 40 application-like questions.
Dr. Griffin was really great at explaining topics discussed and was really good with answering questions. There is a lot of reading w/ quizzes for the reading, but readings are usually broken up to only a few pages a day. There are 6 research reviews to do (only 1-2 pages each) but she drops your lowest grade. Tests were easy. Final not cummulative
Class was easy if you looked over the notes. Final was not cumulative
Take Psyc101 with Dr. Griffin! She is a great professor with a fun, bubbly personality that shines thru even in large lecture classes. Homework is mainly reading 5-15 pages from textbook and taking an easy 5 question comprehension quiz. Class is very easy to get a good grade in as long as you turn everything in on time. Would highly recommend.
She was a good professor with good lectures. She provides resources that are very useful for studying for tests.
Guest lecturers demonstrated the different paths of practicing psychology. Semester long project was fun; required a little group work (which I normally hate) but gave opportunity to utilize clinical skills taught in class.
Dr. Griffin was definitely the best professor I have had so far at UNC. Her classes are lecture heavy, but what she lectures on is on the tests. She doesn't put trick questions on the test either. Homework is from the textbook and it isn't hard at all. I would take this class again because Dr. Griffin actually cares about her students.
She's passionate about teaching and designs 101 to not be very difficult. Go to lectures, study for exams, and take her many opportunities for extra credit.
Dr. Griffin's class is engaging and extremely informative. She is patient answering even the least intelligent questions and it is extremely easy to get an A if you take her class seriously. She uses real life examples of patients she's had to make class material easy to understand. She's a very funny and energetic person and cares for her students
I love Dr. Griffin. She is my favorite professor I've taken at UNC and I want to take as many of her classes as possible. Her lectures are engaging and informative and interesting. She has a bubbly personality, and is very accessible. I looked forward to class everyday. All you need to do is the guided reading questions and you'll get an A.
Very interesting lectures. Make sure to attend them as much of the test is material from her lectures which isn't present in the books. Tests are a bit challenging so make sure to study. Otherwise great class and an easy A.
Dr. Griffin is amazing. Because the class is big (about 200 students), she will not meet with you individually for office hours. You will have TAs who will grade you and meet if you have any questions. Her lectures are informative and easy to grasp. Her tests are multiple choice and sometimes they're straightforward. This is a great intro class.
This was supposed to be a 101 class but I felt the professor went too in depth with lectures or taught irrelevant material. For instance, we had a whole chapter on what requirements for PSYC degrees/post studies. Also, her lectures sometimes contradicted with the textbook and even had a TA disagree with her in class. Most work I put in for a 101.
A decent professor, but hard to get into contact with outside of class. Only 3 non-cumulative exams, that were not too bad. The class size is large, and so each student is assigned a TA, but they are not much better with communication.
Desiree is a great professor. Lectures are interesting. Just get ready to read a lot. The textbook is necessary so either rent or purchase. She has homework so make sure to do it; it helps in the long run for studying for tests. Her tests are easy, in my opinion, as long as you study. She gives a lot of assignments to help cushion your grade.
Professor Griffin genuinely cares about her students. Her homework is easy, and she reviews everything in lecture. She invites in several professional guest speakers (some good, some bad) to give students a better idea of what it's like to work in psychology. While she makes most lectures interesting, there are definitely plenty of boring days.
Not to bad just pay attention
Dr. Griffin was very organized; the homework is optional GRQs but they help a lot when the exams come (if you choose not to do them, definitely read). She goes over exactly what you read the night before in class, uses time efficiently, and is very sweet. She gives three non-cumulative exams and the last counts as the final.
She is a very good lecturer and generally a happy and upbeat person. Do your readings!!! Make sure you study the slides and GRQ's for tests. Also, don't skip class.
Come to class and study and you'll be fine. Her exams have extra credit and she drops questions that a lot of people didn't get. Don't lose points on the project though (the TAs are relatively easy graders).
One of the best professors I've had at UNC in terms of actually conveying information in a way you'll remember and relate to. I actually loved being in her lectures. Super nice and upbeat. Exams are not too as long as you have a basic understanding. Take her for psych!
Dr. Griffin is great at explaining concepts and I really enjoyed going to class as she was always excited. It's pretty straightforward in terms of the exam as she goes over exactly what you need to know and doing the GRQ and quizzes beforehand really prepare you with all the information. Overall, I definitely recommend taking her!
Really excellent professor for PSYC101! I took this class as my science gen ed and I learned a lot. You can tell she cares a lot about the course material. Don't be afraid to ask for help with the research reviews - they are a much larger part of your grade than you might expect. Do the optional GRQs!
She is the best teacher that I have ever had and I always try to get in her classes
She could be great if you love a bubbly professor. Class is boring but easy. 242 CLINICAL psychology 50% "ethics" + 50% "cultural awareness" + 0% CLINICAL techniques. Read GRQs and study her slides easy A.
Super nice and very knowledgeable about the topics we discussed! The class is easy if you follow her criteria and actually do the readings. There are PollEv questions in class most days, so beware of skipping. If you're looking to knock out a PL gen-ed or just interested in psych, take her class!
I really enjoyed Dr. Griffin's class. The workload outside of class is very manageable, so you should really do the GRQs because they help on exams. I thought the lectures were interesting and the tests were very fair if you have been keeping up all along. She also has cool guest lecturers. Take this class if she teaches it again in the future!
Dr. Griffin is a great professor. I would recommend her to anyone. My only complaint is that when you talk to her about an issue she doesn't seem to care much.
Dr. Griffin's classes are great! She obviously cares about you and will go out of her way to help you how she can. She loves what she does and will break things down as simple as you need it. She is very transparent about during her lectures and will actively tell you what will and will not be on the tests. AND she gave bonus points on every test.
Professor Griffin is an amazing professor -- she explains exactly what is expected and does not throw any curve balls. She gives bonus points on the exams and the final exam is not cumulative which is amazing. Her test can be a little tricky but every other portion of her class like the weekly forum post can make up for it! Take her, u wont regret
Hate her, DONT take her
Although this might not have anything to do with Dr Griffin specifically, it does have to do with her policies; her TA's take FOREVER to grade our work!!! Dr Griffin also talks REALLY fast and the tests are easy but require you to study pretty much everything that you may have read or heard, too much information if you ask me!
Dr. Griffin is one of the best professors I've ever had at UNC, and this was my favorite class all semester! The material is fascinating, and Dr. Griffin is such an incredible and knowledgable lecturer that I forget I'm in class. If you have a genuine interest in the material, TAKE THIS CLASS! Hope I get to take more classes w her in the future
Dr. Griffin is a good prof and the class is definitely doable. However, given the option, I would take 101 with a different prof. She required a lot more work than the other psyc101 profs and made it impossible to pass if you skip class. (I literally only skipped 3 classes and got a C- for participation.) Still an easy A though if you study.
Great professor for an online course! Usually online courses are confusing and not well organized. However, the site was so easy to follow and the material was so interesting. It was a LOT of work for a summer class but it was doable! The GRQs are key in doing well. The only complaint I had was that she did grade slow.
Prof Griffin was by far one of the best professors I have had at UNC. Her lectures were always interesting and easy to follow. She also made it super comfortable to speak up in class and ask questions despite it being about 200 people in the class. As long as you show up and do the assignments, you should be fine!
Dr. Griffin is one of the best professors I have had at UNC. She is so knowledgeable and is great at breaking things down so that they are easy to understand. She cares about her students and is extremely accessible. I am in two of her classes this semester and am taking another one with her next semester. Take her classes, you won't regret it!
Professor Griffin is great. She did a fantastic job transitioning to online classes and was very understanding of the difficulties it can pose to students. She makes herself available to help students, whether it be in a Zoom meeting or through email. Her class was asynchronous when I took it (VoiceThreads) and tons of reading.
Dr. Griffin is the best prof I've ever had at UNC! Her class is super organized and is incredibly engaging. The readings were interesting (and necessary for the quizzes) and the projects were fun. You learn a lot and if you ever have questions Dr. Griffin is always available. 10/10 recommend this class and any class Dr. Griffin teaches!
Griffin is such a wonderful professor! I had her in person fall 2019 and I looked forward to her lectures. You definitely have to put in the time to study for exams, but the material isn't difficult. She's a sweet lady, you'll love her!
One of the best psych professors I have had at UNC. I took this class remotely in the fall of 2020. It was asynchronous but there was a lot of homework each week and a group project throughout the semester that required writing a few papers. It is easy to succeed as long as you keep up with the class and do all of the work each week.
Gives a lot of busy work - it's all easy though! Very knowledgeable and a good lecturer. Slightly subjective with grading criteria, but if you put in effort, a good grade isn't difficult. Quality course content.
Unnecessarily obscure grading criteria and not very nice in her interactions with students. This class was made way too hard and too much work for being a 200-level class. Absolutely ridiculous.
This class has a lot of busy work but it's not necessarily hard if you spread it out throughout the week. There is a semester-long project but it is spread out so it's not bad. Dr. Griffin is super nice and you can tell she is super knowledgeable about Clinical Pscyhology. I would 100% take this class again. But know that it is not an easy A.
while there's no textbook, there is a lot of reading for almost every lesson, but as long as you do the readings, you're almost guaranteed an A. your final grade is based on 3 case studies, 3 exams, 10 reading quizzes, and lesson activites from each lesson so honestly a very easy class, highly recommend Griffin if you can take it with her!!
While you will have excellent lectures, do not expect much from this professor's "human side." She is inflexible and unsympathetic. If you think you will never need anything from her, go for it. But if you understand that life is unexpected and things happen, do not expect her to be accommodating or forgiving. You're welcome!
Dr. Griffin is clearly very knowledgeable on the subjects that she teaches, but she is not a caring professor. She is not at all forgiving about late work or make-ups, even with ARS accommodations, and there is SO MUCH busywork and writing that it feels like an English class. Also, semester long group project. No thanks.
Dr. Griffin wore a mesh mask for the first few weeks of the semester. She is not sympathetic at all about mental health concerns, which is ironic since she teaches clinical psychology. She said she couldn't be a therapist b/c she would judge you. She is very knowledgeable about the subject, but the class was not enjoyable due to these things.
Dr. Griffin has built in 24 hour grace periods for papers. She isn't very accommodating to some and she makes it very clear what her expectations are from the start. I like honest professors so I say take the class. It isn't difficult however the multiple choice tests sunk my grade quite tedious just do good on the semester long project and final.
Dr. Griffin is incredibly intelligent. She is able to clearly convey information in her lectures. There are three papers, a weekly reading quiz, discussion boards, and a few tests. The work wasn't too hard, though.
Dr. Griffin's lectures are very strong. Her powerpoints are clear and her lectures are easy to be engaged and interested. Be prepared a lot of work in this class and a lot of reading, both the textbook and articles. Her class is very work heavy, but her lecture style is very good.
Dr. Griffin is really sweet and really wants her students to succeed. She's always available during office hours or after class for questions. Material isn't difficult, but there is a fair amount of reading each week (I found the material genuinely interesting though). Grading is clear, 3 tests and 3 major writing assignments make up your grade.
Dr. Griffin is an amazing professor! She is interesting, funny, and so knowledgeable about clinical psychology. The exams were easy as long as you paid attention in class. Her grading is pretty easy and you make an A if you put in some effort! I would highly recommend this class to anyone who is interested in psychology.
This class seemed hard at first but it was actually pretty easy. it consists of a semester-long project that is just overall a few papers which are like 2 pages long. Every week you do the reading, take a quiz, and a few discussion boards. The content was so interesting and I would 100% recommend this class. You can definitely do it.
Dr. Griffin is simply incredible at what she does. This course is hands-down the favorite that I have taken at UNC. It wasn't easy in that you have to do the work and study, but it is easy in that if you do that and pay attention, then the tests are easy. I read the textbook not for quizzes but later to build and frame my notes. Take. this. class.
Dr. Griffin is one of the best teachers at UNC. This class is by far one of my favorites I've ever taken. It is composed on a group project where you come up with a research question, analyze data based on that question and write a paper and create a presentation based on your results. It is writing and group heavy but you learn a lot!
Lots and lots of work. Tons of reading. Does not lighten up at all when additional assignments are added on. Everything just piles up. Zero sympathy. As a PSYC major with this having been my final PSYC class, this one by far had the most work.... and it wasn't even close
Would not recommend. Unaccommodating overall and unclear of expectations. Harsh grader.
Dr. Griffin has been by far my favorite professor at UNC. The lectures are super interesting and it feels like you learn more about her experience as a Psychologist to learn the topics. There is a huge project along with 3 papers plus the 3 exams but the exams are online. There is a huge chunk of reading plus reading quizzes every week.
There was a LOT of reading for this class. It was asynch, but I felt like more could have been in the lectures as opposed to making us read so much. I also didn't feel like the grading criteria were explained well with the 1st case study - I did well on the others, but didn't feel prepared for the 1st. Overall, a good prof with forgiving policies.
Lots of reading and work that is due Monday, so you will be doing it on the weekends. Also, essay grades are 100, 85, 70. No 99 or 98, etc. This can be frustrating. However, the is very engaging and nice.
I've taken three classes with Dr. Griffin and she's really just iconic. So knowledgeable and willing to help with any problems you may have. Despite teaching two courses in the same semester, she makes herself pretty available to meet outside of class time if you need help. 10/10 recommend.
While there is a lot of assignments for this class (3-5 weekly readings, weekly discussions, 3 papers), the grading criteria is explicit and the class is structured to help you succeed. I appreciated the grace periods on assignments and the time in-between the semester long project that consisted of 3 papers and a clinical interview. I recommend!
First half of the class is about depression, second half about mania. The two largest assignments are the group presentation, and the individual paper on your group's topic which is scaffolded by smaller assignments during the semester. Exams are very fair. Dr. Griffin is a wonderful person who is always friendly and willing to answer any question!
I like the class overall. Very interesting topics. She is not so accommodating and understanding. Many people are 0.03%, 0.05% away from the higher letter grade and she would not care about curving. That's my only complaint. Besides that, this class is great. I just wish she cares more about students' future and well-being over grade inflation.
MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR AT UNC!! Dr. Griffin may have a lot of assignments but the assignments are so interesting and are actually kind of fun. There is a group project throughout the semester that is more hands on but it is set up to where if you do it, it will help you succeed in the overall class. Could not recommend her enough.
There are no words adequate enough to express what an amazing professor Dr. Griffin is. She is at the top of her field and it is evident in her lectures. She is, without a doubt, my most favorite professor at UNC. Her kind attitude and approachable spirit makes such an impact on any student that has the pleasure of taking her class. ENROLL NOW!!!!!
Hands down my all time favorite professor at UNC! Lectures are always very interesting and well organized! Her class never gets boring! Dr. Griffin is also very flexible with assignments by giving a 24 hour grace period for most of them! She is just a phenomenal human being and you can tell she truly cares about her students! Queen status for sure!
She's a great teacher, but she does pronounce stimuli as "stim-you-lee". Since the word stimuli is brought up a decent bit in the class, if that procuration bothers you, then I would not recommend taking this course.
Dr. Griffin is a fantastic lecturer, and she makes the content in her lessons very interesting. She is constantly being named as a great, highly-recommended professor within the UNC psych majors community. Her tests can be a bit difficult, and there is one weekly reading quiz. Reading quizzes are no problem if you skim the readings!
Dr. Griffin was a really nice teacher, but the grading scale for our project that determined 32% of our grade was very unfair, with everyone starting at an 85 and either getting bumped up or bumped down. Her exams were also pretty hard, nothing really prepares you for them but the second one is easier cause you'll know whats coming.
dr. griffin is easily one of my favorite professors. she's literally the best lecturer i've ever seen, her lectures are so engaging and i genuinely loved going to this class so much. there's four case study papers (one can be dropped/skipped) but they're super easy too! midterm and final are open-note too :) take a class with her!!!
Dr. Griffin is a great lecturer, however her test can be very tricky being that it is mainly an application based test, we had a clinical project that was 32% of our grade, the grading for that was kind of weird but if you followed the samples given it would be an easy A, overall I really recommend her!
Dr. Griffin is amazing! 242 has so many components that go into final course grade. Definitely a thorough class to take if you're interested in clinical psychology (guest speakers, hands-on activities, comprehensive readings and application-based questions)
Take 242 with Dr. Griffin!! She makes the material super interesting. You can tell she wants the best for her students and her class/homework just makes sense, she doesn't try to be difficult. She also brings in people to give talks which are super interesting. If you follow the rubrics and do the work, you will get an A.
Dr. Griffin is great! She made lectures super interesting and offered 24-hr grace periods for almost all of her assignments. She's very caring and really wants to see her students succeed! 100% recommend her for any psychology course she offers (ESPECIALLY 242!).
The absolute best professor I have ever had. Dr. Griffin is absolute BRILLIANT -- she knows exactly how to teach in way that is clear and so easy to digest. She is ORGANIZED!!! She provides clear and organized modules and have so much helpful tools for studying. Dr. Griffin is the level professors should be compared to.
I love Dr. Griffin! I took 245 with her this semester and I'll be taking 242 with her next semester. She is very knowledgable and has worked in many different clinical settings so she has a lot of experience. She is also very sweet! I highly recommend taking 245 with her, it's a super interesting class and she executes very well. 5/5 quality!
Really wonderful professor and super understanding. Case studies are graded a little harshly depending on your TA so be aware of that since it is a large part of your grade. Lectures are very interesting and easy to be engaged! Wonderful professor!
Dr. Griffin is great, interesting in lecture and at answering questions. Exams are online. Only con is that in 242 we have a project worth 36% of our grade and the grading on that is tough, due to TAs.
I can't think of many UNC professors better than Dr. Griffin! I have little interest in clinical psych, but she still made the class engaging and one of my favorites this semester. All of her tests and assignment are straight forward and easy to do well on, and they do a great job making sure the material is clear. Take a class with her if you can!
Her lectures were really interesting and engaging! She had a fun group project that was super easy and if you put in the time and effort into the papers you could get a 100. The exams are appilcation base but taken online and open notes!! I would so take Dr,Griffin again!!
This has probably been my favorite class taken so far at UNC! Dr. Griffin cares so much about her students and the subject matter, and it shows in the lectures and projects. Exams are online and very easy as long as you take notes in class and pay attention.
In my years of higher education, I have never had a professor as subjective as Dr. Griffin. Her clinical interviewing project, specifically the narrative, uses a highly subjective grading system... which will not accurately reflect the work you did for the paper. Attendance is inflexible as well. Do not take her.
Dr. Griffin is an awesome prof! Loved this class set up and would take it again! The case studies were interesting and the guest speakers were cool
Dr. Griffin was so far the best professor I've had at UNC: genuinely so caring, attentive, and encouraging. She made the course material interesting and engaging, which made the weekly homework/reading assignments not too bad. There's also several guest lectures throughout the semester in various careers in psychology, which was super insightful.
Dr. Griffin is amazing! She brought in guest lecturers throughout the semester from different occupations in Psychology, which was super helpful in exploring careers. There is a lengthy project with a few papers, but exams are online. Grading was sometimes harsh depending on the TA. Overall, Dr. Griffin is super caring and I highly recommend her!
Dr. Griffin was a great professor! She gave great lectures and brought in guest speakers from time to time. There is a decent amount of reading, but I found it to be really interesting. Exams really aren't bad, but a couple of the case studies were tough. Overall it was a great class!
Exams are low-key tricky in this class. I failed the first, but was able to make a comeback luckily- maybe had some animosity towards her for that but I know that's a little petty. The case studies aren't as hard as they seem. Will give practice exams which are helpful! Sometimes questions are reused for the 24hr open exams (including final).
Dr. Griffin is amazing! Allows extra credit and drops lowest quiz/case study. Exams were online and kind of tricky, but I improved with each one. Case studies weren't too bad and were graded very fairly. Class was engaging and interesting and you can tell she is incredibly educated on the topic and cares about her students. 10/10 would recommend!!
Wasn't a fan of her in 242, but she's fine in 245. Drops the lowest grades, and has built in absences without penalty. Pollevs for participation. Not super flexible for absences or extensions, but that's what the drops are for. Class is clear cut, exam prep clearly defines exams. 245 is def easier than 242, so go for that if you can.
Dr. Griffin is one of the best professors at UNC! Take notes during lectures, guest presentations and readings and you should do well. Exams are online and open-note. Assignments have a 7-day window for turning it in. I found the papers were harshly graded by the TAs, but overall a great class!
Best PSYC professor and class at UNC. She is super knowledgeable and passionate about psyc and wants students to be too. Lectures were straightforward and soo interesting, and she is very organized. Graded on case studies, quizzes, in-class activities, and two exams (both open-note). All fair, and she lets a bunch of assignments be dropped. 12/10.
Ok... I have taken her 3 times and this has to be the hardest class I have had with her. Be prepared for a in-class debate which is graded very very harshly. Also a really long paper but it is broken down into multiple sections. She is a sweetie pie though but this class was draining
INCREDIBLE professor but your grade entirely depends on the TA that grades it...
The class was pretty interesting overall but your TA basically decides your grade. Throughout the semester there is a clinical project that is completed with essays.I received 80s on all essays (each 12% of grade) and when asked for a regrade the TA just copied and pasted the original piece of feedback(one sentence with no actual specific feedback)
Clear and informative class, not difficult if you put in effort, show up to class, and pay attention Griffin is a great lecturer and has very interesting lectures that are applicable to the real-world I highly recommend if you are interested in Clinical Psychology!
This class was interesting. The clinical project was fun. TAs kind of graded things harshly tho. Tests do require some preparation depsite being take home/open book. Other smaller assignments were good filler grades for this class.
This is your daughter Carolyn😜
Dr. Griffin was great! She no longer gives exams for 242, but the material is interesting and really important if you want to go into any sort of career in psychology. The readings can get a little long but the guided reading questions make the information you need to pay attention to pretty straightforward.
I love this lady so much I think I will be 50 years old still remembering how good of a professor she is I literally love psychology because of her she is so nice.
Dr. Griffin is the best! I loved that she considered student feedback and even chose to stop giving exams. The majority of our grade is comprised of case studies, which are completed in a group during class to mimic actual clinical work. They were a little tricky to get the hang of, but the lowest two are dropped and help is available!
This was my FAVORITE class- there are no tests (only weekly reading quizzes that are guided by open-note GRQ questions), it has a group work component which is so nice because some case studies are confusing. She brings in multiple incredible people from a variety of jobs so this is the class to take if you want to know if you should be a clinician
Dr. Griffin is a great professor and her lectures are easy to follow. There are no exams, instead there are weekly group case studies. The case studies are graded pretty tough but it's not hard to get a good grade in the course.
loved dr. griffin!! she is a great lecturer and really cares about her students. it is majority group project stuff that are graded hard, but they are very engaging and educational. she is very knowledgeable and actually cares!
Griffin is a fantastic professor – her lectures, the readings, and the class content are all engaging and informative. However, with the new formatting (no exams/group project final), you could easily achieve an A without putting in any genuine effort. Great professor, but class grading is unserious. If you need motivation to learn, dont take.
Dr. Griffin is an amazing professor! Our section had her new format with no exams but heavy class work and group projects with weekly reading quizzes. Although it made the course significantly easier, it made the class more interesting and easy to engage with. The guest speakers were awesome!
Dr. Griffin was amazing. There were no exams for this class but there was a lot of in class group work. As long as you do the readings and pay attention during lecture you will do well in the course. She is also very caring and understanding.
Engaging lectures by Professor Griffin, with insightful guest speakers. Tests require prep, but Unstuck AI was a big help for studying. Assignments can be harshly graded by TAs, but overall a great class.
Dr. Griffin was a fantastic professor! I highly recommend taking any class with her. There was a very intensive clinical project, but it was interesting and we had a lot of time to complete each part over the course of the semester. Her TAs graded fairly. Overall, I loved this course!
This class has been my favorite so far! Every week is set up the same. Readings, short online reading quizzes, lectures on read material then group case studies. She is incredibly sweet and offers wiggle room. Allows drops due to potentially sensitive material (ex: suicide). No final exam but a large group project.
Dr. Griffin is the best! There are no tests, instead, you are graded by your analysis of a case study in class each week. The case studies are done with a group and include answering 4 - 6 questions with 1-2 paragraphs. Grading is super kind, and professor/Tas are very willing to help. Very little work outside of class. HIGHLY recommend.
Dr. Griffin is very likable, so much so I feel bad for not enjoying her class. Even more so because the content was interesting. The workload isn't too difficult, but it's poorly implemented. Restructuring the assignments could instantly lower to difficulty of this class to a 4 to a 1 or 2 without losing any content.
Griffin is a good teacher, knowledgeable but understanding. 245 was a pretty easy class, considering there were no exams and only case studies. Plenty of leeway with missing classes (I think you can miss up to 20 almost) - most important consideration is to choose a good group at the start of the year, since you will be with them throughout.
Super great profession who wants you to learn and succeed, not just pass a test. Class very lecture based and homework includes lots of textbook readings and GRQs. Work with a group throughout the semester and on one big presentation for the "final."
For the group days, your grade depends on the TA you get that week, but otherwise the class was awesome. I was able to learn a lot with a reasonable amount of time going to the class.
Dr. Griffin is great and very knowledgable in the psychology field. I mainly interacted with the TAs, but she is very organized with her assignments and grading. There is a good amount of reading but it was helpful on the assignments and tests. The material is straight forward but can get repetitive/boring at times. Overall great class/professor.
No tests, lots of group work. The homework and in-class assignments are pretty chill. She's a very knowledgeable and great professor.
She wants really specific and strong evidence for each case study. While that is not unreasonable, she sort of gives off the impression that there is only one right answer and grades harshly based on that. She expects extremely clear and detailed work while her questions in themselves are vague and feel like they're up to interpretation.
The class was great until the final. She introduced a new oral exam that was poorly structured. We had 4 minutes for 3 questions, but my interviewer, Professor Griffin, asked harder, extra, and off-guide questions that were completely unrelated to my client. Other students with TAs had simpler ones. It felt unfair and biased.
This class was great until the final. It was an oral exam, and Dr. Griffin asked very hard questions compared to what the TAs asked.
All of this class is is group work, which is horrible because a lot of the group members don't do the work and you get penalized for it through your grades. Get a good group for the final project because I had to end up doing primarily by myself. She's nice but I swear half the time she doesn't actually know the facts she just speaks like she does
Go to class! Lots of points from the exit tickets and group activities. The semester-long project was cool. I like how she focused on applying the content rather than testing. I learn a lot from her classes! Only downside was the final was oral, and was graded kinda harshly imo.
Dr. Griffin was an amazing professor. The grading for the case studies are a little strict, but as long as you are extremely detailed in your responses you will do well. Dr. Griffin is super understanding and goes above and beyond to support her students inside and outside of the classroom.
