Professor Harding is of the mindset that an A paper needs to be an original idea that has never been written before. I also found his queer theory lessons to be triggering as a member of the lgbtq community. I attempted a conversation about it but was told that he creates allies out of some students and seemed to ignore the safety of trans students

He is a decent guy and seems to know what he is talking about, he is just very unclear when it comes to grading criteria. It is almost impossible to get above an A- on your papers because the prompts make little sense and the rubric is unclear. Lecture time is not spent well at all, I never learned a single thing from them. Wouldn't recommend.

Desmond is one of the most caring professors I've had and is very passionate about what he is teaching us. Hardly anyone came to his class during the year, which I felt bad about. He is a tough grader but gives great feedback on ways to improve your paper. He also is great at responding to emails and checks on you. Protect Desmond at all costs.

Attendance is required and worth a grade which is a little annoying but not that big of a deal. Hes a pretty tough grader but he gives good feedbacks and lets you redo your papers if you dont like your grade. He required a presentation which scared me at first but it was really not a big deal. He is a very nice and caring teacher.

A lot more papers than I thought would happen for a 100 level WI. Total of 5 papers all about 4-5 pages long including a 20 min presentation that is done with a partner. No test or quizzes, But a lot of reading out of the book.

Constantly wastes our time rambling about unrelated things. His feedback makes no sense, he will tell you to do something and then take off points for it later. No matter how much you ask for help and revise your paper he doesn't give As. I don't know how he has such good ratings, everyone I know hated this class. Save yourself the frustration.

He is a great teacher and the class is easy. He is very good with feedback but he doesn't allow excused absences unless there is a doctor note. The assignments are easy you just have to do discussion boards and write papers.

I love Des! He's super funny and gets students engaged in his lectures. The only negative thing about this class was that the papers were worth a lot of points and the outlines, drafts, and peer reviews only made up a small portion of the grade. His accent made the class even better as well!

Desmond is truly a joy to be around. He cares about his students and their interest's. He's quick whited and jovial. Being an English class it has a few papers. During the writing process he gives great feedback on outline, peer review, submission, and optional resubmission.

Professor Harding is the best professor I have had. He was very kind and understanding to a family situation I had during my semester in his class. He was very reasonable with his assignments and deadlines and was always willing to listen to his students. I have nothing bad to say about professor Harding.

There are positive things about Desmond. He loves what he teaches and will talk with you endlessly about your papers and how you're doing. The problem comes in when you get to his lectures. He never reminded us of due dates until the day before, and his lectures didn't help me write any of my essays. Lectures made zero sense and were useless.

I absolutely loved having Dr. Harding as my professor for my first semester at CMU. He was super kind and understanding. He also takes the time to get to know everyone of his students and truly cares about how they are doing and feeling. Some of the assignments may be a little confusing but if you go to his office hours he will help you.

Since rate my professor won't allow me to say so, Desmond "isn't" biased against certain students. However, his grading choices do seem to vary depending on whose name is on the assignment. His rubric is nonexistent, and his lectures are hollow. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Can be a really easy class if you just do the work properly and follow his strangely specific guidelines. This guy is a huge lover of AI, and often encouraged us to use it in our work, which was great. You don't have to worry about flunking his class from using AI

I've had him twice. His 101 course may be fine, but as an English major going for a high GPA his classes are frustrating. He is an extremely hard grader. My final Adobe project took 4+ weeks and earned a B. Lectures are long, boring, and disengaging, for already useless coursework for those on English education track. Avoid, will tank your grades!!
