This teacher made his final exam extra tough because he thought
wow bad teacher makes hard final exams looks like abraham lincon squirrel think about it...
easy in class but hard on exams
You gotta understand everything to do well in this class. Just listen, don't bother writing a ton of notes with him, and it's fine. It's interesting course matter if you listen and apply it. Despite what a lot of people and myself thought at first, he does care about the class.
He is good.. I like him ^_^
Final exam is hard. Teaching is okay.
Great teacher and his exams are very fair. They test you on what you ought to know, hence you get the mark you deserve. He is also helpful when you go to his office and does genuinely seem to care about the class. Moreover he makes the subject as interesting as he can by adding real world facts.
Superb prof! Very funny and helpfull. Knows the subject really well. Always gives great notes and explains things very clearly. Gives enough examples and practice questions. Undoubtly, one of the best on the facutly. Explained very well why not to rob a bank but go for casino.
Exams are fair and not too difficult. Go to class, know the problems he does in class, and study the text examples. Understand the concepts and you will do fine!
He's has no direction teaches haphazerdly and has no perception of seperating concepts for ease of understanding
Very unorganized. Very unclear. Written exams are straight from in-class examples. MC exams are difficult. Poor penmanship. Avoid him!
great prof!fair exam, very clear in class. if u go to class everyday, you will get an A without putting much effort. He only tests you what he has taught in class. one of the best econ prof in western.
A cool guy! He love rock and roll!
best econ prof I have ever had. Fair exam, well prepared lectures, very helpful in office hours. He is just great.
so far the best eco course I have ever taken. I actually did learn a lot of stuff. Very fair exam, very patient guy.If you go to class regularly, it is not hard to get an 80+ at all
Very passionate guy. I always smile when I see him in that waaaaay too big tweed jacket. Easily one of the most personable econ profs at western.
I have him for MOS at Huron U/C. You might as well subsitute the lectures for the slides because his main weakness is the fact that he focuses way too much on slides and even goes through some way too fast claiming that you can read them on your own. Well whats the point of lecture then?
Where do you start with Desi? As a lecturer he was an interesting, thought provoking instructor. However, his exams are not true tests of the class materials. The exams tend to be abstract and it is difficult to know where you stand until you receive the mark. He has a great presonality though and that makes up for his testing and marking flaws
He's probably one of the best economics profs you can take for this class. He is good at explaining things and gives very helpful notes to study for his exams. His exams are pretty fair if you've gone to class ... TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM IF YOU CAN...
Easy teacher. Study class notes, not text. Final exam was much harder than the midterms which were pretty easy.
He was really good for my courses. Very helpful and the tests are really easy if you do the assignments. Very approachable and willing to help. He has a uniqute fashion sense and is VERY attractive.
Dezzie is the best prof ever! He's so nice and is really helpful!
Best Econ prof. If you go to class you will really understand the topic. Very patient when explaining. Make sure you understand the problems he does in class and most likely you will do in his relatively easy exams. Final exam is kinda hard.
Nice guy. Gets flustered when he makes mistakes and/or people talk during his lectures. Interested in the topic/more than willing to help for the most part. Final exam was based entirely on application, which is good if you're reasonably competent in the subject, attend his lectures, and read the textbook a bit.
asdasd
McKeon had notes online that were SO helpful. He made some funny jokes in class but gets very offended if you leave class early. Only complaint is that the final exam was super hard. Economics is in his blood!
good prof. his exams are easy - basically all examples from the textbook. i wasnt a fan of his teaching style - he just got up and talked. makes the topic interesting though, if you can follow along.
he is sooooooooo BORING!!! not helpful. may as well just read the textbook and use the study guide to study. his classes are useless! if you are in is class, good luck! its takes a lot of effort to stay awake in his mundane lectures! BORING!!!
A really competent prof, knows his stuff. If you're not dumb and work reasonably hard you will be fine. Obviously if u dont like econ u wont enjoy the lectures. Will increase your interest in econ, has a lot to offer make the most of it. I dont recommend buying the book. His mid terms are quite easy, cant say the same for the final.
I am confused as to why so many people think Mckeon is a good professor. Sure he may give out high marks, but he is highly unorganized, does not know what he is talking about, and incredibly boring.
Great prof, really knows his stuff. Talks non stop in class and many students might find that a bit boring, but everything he talks about is very relevant and even applicable. One of the best, if not the best econ prof I have ever had at western.
Just because he is easy doesn't mean he is any good. He is awful at explaining concepts and doesnt' really present material in a clear way. Lectures are not organized and they aren't even coherent. He is nice so he wins over people's hearts, but honestly, he isn't a great prof.
He said that lecture material may be on the exam.....yeah, it definitely wasn't because I never attended lectures and managed to own the exams. Then again, this course was pretty easy so if you're not a complete idiot, you will be fine. Textbook > lecture for this course.
A little disorganized seeming, but he knows his stuff and if you pay attention you'll be fine
Terrible...very unorganized lectures make studying for exams near impossible...he is awful at answering questions and makes you feel bad for not understanding/asking in the first place. Exams are relatively easy but since you have no idea what to study they can be tricky. My least favourite prof in university thus far.
Examples are pretty much the same as the exam maybe a few different numbers changed here and there. Uses his own notes for the majority of the class (didn't purchase textbook). M/C are somewhat tricky but doable.
Had him for Economics 2152 and was not impressed, didn't seem to care. But then I took Economics 2154 (Money) with him the following year, and for some reason he was infinitely better, way more passionate, personable and approachable. Lesson of the day: He's a good prof for anything but Intermediate Macro!
I have taken two classes with Des. He is slightly disorganized, but a very competent instructor. Few people attend class consistently, but doing so will increase your chances of acing exams. He tests almost completely from his own slides, provided online. The text is not necessary but the study guide is very useful, with many problems on tests.
I found his classes to be pretty boring and he would often sway off topic. His exams were very easy though.
have had him for a few classes. Exams are very straight forward, no tricks. Everything is covered in class. Follow textbook and your golden. Boring class though. Likes to wander into random tangent. He is very passionate about economics. Reminds me of "Gill" from the simpsons
I had him for both 2152 and 2153, I did pretty well on both, my 2152 class ended up with 84, and 2153 ended up with 96 he made me love econ, because of that I gave up Ivey and I'm working on my way to be a phd in economics now.
Mckeon is honestly the nicest, fairest professor I have ever had. He uses his in class examples on his exams, either same numbers or slightly different. There are no tricks on his exams. If you go to class (You dont even need the textbook), and pay attention you are guaranteed a good mark. MUCH better than any of the other economics professors.
No tricks here - go to class, study lecture slides, review w textbook and notes and you should get an 80+
It doesn't seem like he's that available to help. His lectures are not presented enthusiastically and he gets offended if you leave class early. Someone could have an emergency and leave and he'd make mental note.
I don't think he was that helpful to students and gets really offended if you leave class early..I mean some of us have appointments or classes on the other side of campus..
man, very dry. the textbook is all you need.
Pretty decent prof overall. He is open to help you out during office hours or even outside office hours but sometimes has a really terrible attitude and can be a buzzkill. I would definitely recommend attending most lectures and making sure you know the slides inside out. If you like his material and study well, 85 is easy.
Such a dry professor. Condescending. and overall just horrible in regards to when you need extra help.
very dry professor lectures are extremely boring. The class is always dull
Classes are boring very dry style of teaching
Excellent. Always talks about real world situations. Makes economics interesting.
If you are serious about economics this is the prof you want. One of the best at Western for economics. Good guy to talk to aswell he helped getting me in to a master's.
Prof Mckeon is one of the best for understanding real world finance. Good teacher a used a lot of examples from the news. Great if you are considering a finance career.
Was really interested in learning about financial markets but this professor made it unbearable. He was disorganized and kept repeating himself. His slides werent even formatted or in a concise order :( extremely disappointed that I could not take the course with a different professor
This course in risk management is a little harder than most of Prof Mckeon courses but it is worth it! There is a real job orientated aspect to this course. He is a great lecturer and the key is to attend class. Tests are very much based on class material.
Professor McKeon is easily one of the worst lecturers I have ever had. He explains things in a very complicated way as if the students already understand what he is talking about. I understand that Econ has pretty dry material but he makes it much more boring than it has to be. I learned more from the textbook than I did from any of his lectures.
i am at Ivey now and I am SO GLAD I had Prof. McKeon for macro . Everything we do here is based on the real world and all the stuff Mckeon used to talk about is for real! I understand what I am doing much better that some of my friends. I didn't like econ when I took it at at Huron but thank goodness for Prof Mckeon because his courses sure help
great/funny professor, can get 90+ if you study
Make sure you use his class notes and the practice problems to get a A+.
Professor McKeon's teaching style is extremely confusing - he often contradicts the textbook during lectures. His lecture notes are poorly written and confusing. He doesn't supply students with enough material to practice content outside of class and he seems to hate teaching.
The best Econ prof you can get. I took four courses from him over my last two years. Learned more in his courses than any other. Secret to doing well is always go to class. Tests are based on class. Extremely smart guy.
I am graduating this year. The courses I took fro Prof Mckeon have helped a lot in figuring out where I want to go to grad school. He really helped me with my choice. This s great prof. But dont expect to just read the book. He teaches a lot of stuff in class about applications and real world Econ. I got 82 and it was because of attendance.
Best Econ prof. He really knows economics and has a very good way of teaching. Really liked all the class exercises for exams. If you need to take Econ try to get Mckeon.
He teaches a complicated concept but it helps to imagine a big picture of Macro. I am very satisfied with his teaching style. He does not care about the grade.
He is definitely my fav Econ prof! He is so amazing! He is wonderfully good at teaching and he is extremely knowledgeable. He is fun and really cares about his students. I learned a lot from his lectures and felt honored to be his student. I highly recommend him! He is the best!
Overall, a decent prof. Seems to expect that students have read the textbook, and he mostly goes over examples in class, as opposed to actual lecturing/teaching the material. Make sure to attend class, and print off limited time PPT posts.
This is a prof I have had before and I hoping to get into one of his classes again this year. His courses fill up quickly but if you can get in take any course he teaches. He is incredible and his exams are very fair.
Mckeon is probably the worst lecturer ever, extremely dry and confusing. However, once you get closer to the exam he makes a point of doing review questions with the entire class. He really makes it clear what questions matter and what to focus on for the exam so you can succeed, I appreciated this considering the content can be challenging.
He is a really nice prof, I took four courses with him. He knows a lot of things about Econ, and give really fair marks. If you go to his every class and take good notes you can get a really high grade on the course.
amazing prof!
I did not attend his lectures at all maybe twice but overall if you take econ1021 you don't have to go to class. Just read the textbook and stick with the question bank. If you can memorize the question bank its easy 90+. But he is a nice person and teaching style is good compared to other Econ profs out there.
One of the best profs I have ever had. Try to take his courses if you can. Easy to get a good grade if you go to class and do all the exercises. I am doing my CFA because of prof Mckeon. A fantastic prof.
The worst professor I have met at Western University. His ppt slides are randomly organized, and his lectures are boring and hard to understand. He didn't care about his students because I sent him emails several times, but he seldomly replied to me.
Prof. Mckeon is the best prof for Economics. His courses are hard but relevant. I wrote CFA one and the topics Mckeon covered made the CFA a lot easier to study for. Even the online course I took was great because he actually taught it using recorded lectures. Great prof take his courses if you can
Great prof, he's very clear with his exams and explains concepts very clearly so we know what to expect, overall would recommend for future students!
moderate.
Prof Mckeon is definitely knowledgeable about finance. You will learn a lot from his course BUT do not expect to just read a text and study guide. He relies a lot on real world examples and talks a lot about things not in the test. If you go to class this course is interesting and not too hard. I got an 80 without too much work .
Professor McKeon is very knowledgeable. Makes concepts as clear as possible and his interest in econ is apparent in his lectures. His exams are fair from what is taught in class and he does a good breakdown before an exam. Overall a good prof whose lectures were pretty interesting, actually felt like I was learning real-world stuff.
fun guy, tried to make 8:30s as interesting as he could. somewhat unconventional with mc for his exams but i'm not gonna complain. read his slides and do the practice problems, its basically enough to do well.
Honestly, if you already have prior knowledge on the subject you should take his class, otherwise, I would suggest that you don't. The prof does not explain content properly, and his slides are always vague, thus making self studying very hard. He will also never give time for questions, and there are no office hours. No idea how he got any 5s.
Great Prof. I took three courses with him and 2181 Financial economics was the best. Really learnt something which is not usual in economics courses. I am doing my CFA because of Mckeon. Take his.course if you can.
He doesn't explains the clearly and often go through the slides quickly. He doesn't have office hours and doesn't give time to ask questions in class. Everything in this class is just combined with lectures, and will be evaluated only based on 2 midterms and 1 final. Seriously, it is always important to seek help when need and do the self-study.
Great prof. If you are going to Ivey this is the prof you want for econ. He teaches a lot of the kind of thing that helps in Ivey finance courses.
-Not accessible -Just reads the slides -Speaks with a mask on, so very difficult to comprehend his lecture -Doesn't care if students don't understand -Takes a lot of exams -No bonus quizzes -No assignments -Not helpful Wouldn't recommend taking him
He's a sweet guy and knows his stuff but the way the course is taught is just terrible and here's a list why: 1. Youre left not knowing what he just said after his lectures - SO ASK QUESTIONS (no one does) 2. His slides are terrible - ITS A SELF TAUGHT COURSE 3. His tests are mid and you need to study the textbook even though he says you don't
Really great guy. Can help a lot with career selection. I learned a lot in his financial economics course. You have to class, but if you do it is easy to do well.
If you take his money course, do the test banks and you will get at least 80.
do not take his classes. worst course.
This guy is a professional Yapper
This prof is possibly the best econ prof I have had at Western. He actually teaches stuff that is relevant and you learn things in his course. His style is Different. You need to go class ,but if you do his exercises plus rember the points he emphasis in class you will do well. Very interesting stuff , even if he can grumpy at times.
Great professor. Truly passionate about his area of expertise and it clearly shows. More than happy to go the extra mile and help students with difficult concepts. Happy retirement Professor McKeon!
Liked this prof, very straightforward textbook to slideshow lectures, participation was chill - and also rewarded by him giving out practice questions before any mid term + final, in which some were copy & paste to the real test. Not very engaging... but I would take the prof again, one of the better profs for econ. DIFFICULT FINAL THOUGH.
I just took Mckeon's financial economics class. He seems like a very smart guy but he is a bad professor. Exams and midterms were entirely from the lectures which normally isn't an issue but he goes over the concepts extremely fast and does not elaborate on key points. The slide shows are extremely confusing so you can't really study either
Great Prof. Had him for three courses. Material is slightly advanced compared to BMOS courses but super interesting. If you go to class and do the posted exercises exams are easy . I did an 80 . Studying for CFA now and found his courses very useful.
Though some people really liked McKeon, he is not for everyone. Especially if you don't know anything about the subject going into the first day of class. If you've taken one class with him and doesn't like his teaching style, please do not take more classes with him, as his teaching/testing style is consistent. He does not use test banks anymore.
McKeon's class is challenging, but engaging for those with prior background. Attend lectures, complete practice exercises, and leverage tools like unstuck study to succeed. The material is rewarding, though his teaching style may not suit all students.
he's the goat, such a beauty, certified VET
