very, very boring class. the teacher repeats himself continually.
Best of the eccon teachers I am going into business and I found his class to be highly helpful. His teaching style is student centered, he is highly knowlegeable about what he is teaching, loves teaching, and he really wants his students to succeed. If you are a slacker or find ecconomics highly boring and don't care, then prepare to suffer.
he's smart and knows his stuff but you have to work hard!! come to class awake and take notes, youll be fine! dont and it will suck..
He is very difficult to understand at first because of his accent. He jolted me a awake a few times when he said "focus" because with his accent, it sounded like something else. He's a nice guy, but he makes a boring class worse with his monotone lectures. The class isn't hard, but staying awake enough to take notes is.
He is a pretty cool guy.. The lectures are a bit borning... If you print of the online lecture notes it covers most of the stuff in class.. Rarly ever use my book.. He is cool for grading takes off two quizes and homeworks.. and takes off one test. He averages all your other scores.. A students dream..Very laid back guy.
Boring lecures!! he is hard to follow sometimes and yet repeats himself all the time. however, grading is nice. he lets you drop two hw and quizzes and one test! i guess he is ok
He was a good teacher, but his lectures were very boring and he was hard to understand at times. However if you just read the printouts he offers online and attend class it shouldnt be too difficult to pass
STRONG ACCENT, CONFUSING AT TIMES BUT IT WASN'T TOO BAD U JUST HAVE TO READ, EXAMS ARE ABIT CONFUSING BUT UNDERSTANDABLE
he is the coolest teacher ever.... dint even have to take notes just print them off of d2l. his tests are based on lecture notes and thimgs from book. Not a hard class. He is very knowlegab;e on thhis subject
Dr.Gelgelu was the best Econ professor North Hennepin ever had. I am currently at Carlson School of Management and his class prepared me so well for all the business classes am currently taking. if you have a chance to take a class with this guy, do all you can to be in his class. DOn worry about the accent because it just adds to flavor to the cla
This professor was very difficult to understand. When there are questions asked, he does not answer them, he goes off on a tangent. The tests and quizzes are fairly easy if you read the book and attend lectures.
Excellent
I took both Micro and Macro with Gelgelu and I thought he was a terrific teacher. His accent is a little hard to get accustomed to, but after a couple of weeks you can understand him pretty well. You don't even need the book because he summarizes each chapter and puts it on D2L. All of the discussions are on his notes anyway.
it is an A class. you don't need to buy a text book. read the lecture and class actives, then you will be fine.
I really enjoyed this class, you can attend class if you want sometimes he gives extra points for in class sheets. Drops 2 homework assignments, 2 quizzes, and one test; everything for these is in his notes and in book. Has an accent but you soon get used to it. Very smart and always willing to help.
pretty easy class I got an A+ you have to be pretty dumb not to pass, Homework, Quizzes and Exams are all based on the lecture notes you don't even need to use the text book
very nice, good instructor
Good teacher. Very good at explaining Economics. Although he does speak with an accent so at time can be hard to understand, but you get used to it.
HE'S REALLY NICE. ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP. VERY KNOWLEDGABLE IN HIS SUBJECT. THE BEST ECONOMICS PROFESSOR AT NORTH HENNEPIN.
He was a good teacher. He pretty much talked about what was in his lecture notes the whole time. I could tell that he was really smart just the way he talked and presented himself. He would also tend to say some pretty funny things. However if you take his class take it in a non lecutre hall.
easy class if you've got some common sense...don't necessarily have to know everyting or read at all in the book -just pay attention in class and you'll be fine. he's very laid back about things, but you still learn a BuNCH in the class.
He is very helpful when you don't understand something. Lectures can sometimes confuse you, but overall he is a great teacher.
Great Guy, VERY Helpful! DEF recommend. although the lectures were kind of boring, he is really funny at times! :)
LOVE him. I learned a ton in his class and can't wait to have him next semester. Extremely helpful and willing you work with you. Drops the lowest grade of each homework, quiz, and test which made it very easy to do well in the class. Notes easily correspond to the text. Possible to never ovep the book if you listen in class. Again, LOVE him.
He's a great guy. Very helpful, pretty funny at times too. I really enjoyed taking his class.
very easy class... since he drops two quizes, two homeworks, and a test. boring lectures but he does do a good job on explaining everything and covering everything on the test. he does have a bit of an accent, but its kinda funny. so i would definitely reccomend this class with him.
Very good teacher. Has a Nigerian sounding accent though so he may be hard to understand at first. You get used to it though after a day or two. Lectures are boring, but everything he does is multiple choice answer. Very understanding of any circumstances that could deter your performance in class. He also drops 2 HW, 2 Quiz and 1 test. :)
A great professor! If you wanna get an A in this class, just read the textbooks and the lecture notes that Dr.Gelgelu posts on D2L for every chapter, then there's no way that you won't get an A! Highly recommend him!
his accent was hard to understand and i thought that the questions on the tests/quizzes were confusing. i would definitely not take another class with him!
He really knows his stuff.
His accent prohibits him from pronouncing fundamental words such as equilibrium and linear, words that are essential to the class.
Very hard to understand. Writes SUPER small. Read the book & was in class with no missed days BUT STILL scored low on the tests & quizzes (the tests & quizzes are confusing & doesn't make sense). But if you ask him for help he'll help you (most of the times).
He was a really good teacher. Very friendly, patient, and calm. He did get a little repetitive/boring at times, but overall he taught a good class (Macro Economics).
Don't be scare. I took Macro and Micro with him. He is a very good professor. His accent is not bad, you'll get use to it. I thought economic wasn't my strength but after taking with him i learned well. All HWs & Class Activities are online (D2L). just read the chapters and you'll do fine. He will drop 2 HWs, 2 Quizzes, & 1 Test. You'll like him.

Great professor! Econ maybe hard but he makes it easy to pass with flying colors. He also has a lot of faith in his students and lets them make mistakes with second chances.
Professor is unable to speak clearly, and on homework, often does not describe what he is looking for. Very slow paced.
He is a very good professor. All you have to do is read the text book and do the exercise at the end of the chapter. You'll do find. He drop 2 HW, 2 Quizzes, 1 Test. I did poorly on my last Test but he drop it. Trust me you'll do fine!
Withdrew after 2 classes. Could hear him as he mumbled, wrote small so could read info on board. Syllabus provided was for 3 day a week class but class was 2 days a week so had no idea what homework/reading was supposed to be done. Not recommended in my opinion, surprised he is scored so high.
One of my favorite professors since i've been at NHCC
Professor showed up 5 mins late everyday. I emailed him about missing a quiz and he never got back to me. Tests are a little confusing but if you read the textbook it is manageable. In my opinion, take it with someone else.
The lectures in this class are extremely boring, but it is worth it to attend for the occasional extra credit. The tests are extremely easy if you read the chapters from the book. He is a really nice guy and he will drop your lowest test, 2 homeworks, and 2 quizzes which is quite fair.
His grading is totally random. Five of my friends and I submitted the same exact homework assignment (which he said was okay) and all got different grades.
Seem hard to understand at first, but professor's real laid back and understanding of student. A lot of group work that is very helpful, & gives decent extra credit.
The professor's style is too laid back for some but he is very knowledgeable. He teaches out of the textbook without having to refer to it most times. His entire focus is to make sure you have learned something from his class not to devise ways to fail you. His class is easy to take, he is very flexible and I would gladly recommend him.
Professor Gelgelu makes it easy to understand micro econ. The success of each and every student is very important to him so he will spend a lot of 1-1 time with students. He drops one test and one HW assignment from your final grade. Pay attention during lectures, turn in your hw on time, and read the textbook and you will receive an A in his class
His lectures are helpful, but if you want more than a D or C on the tests, you HAVE to read the chapters in the book, that is the only way. Which can get annoying because its a lot. His lectures are clear, but don't expect to get a good answer on anything you ask, he just doesnt know how to answer any kind of question with clarity. Nice guy & funny
Desta is very knowledgeable in his subject-doesn't read from PowerPoint slides. Selected useful book for his lessons(so you can read the book after lecture and understand where you missed), uses visuals(graphs) He makes time for going through the tests answering any hard questions with great detail. Attend class, take notes and do homework-easy A
Lectures didn't really help me on tests. Learned next to nothing. All tests were at home online except the final which made getting a good grade easy even if you didn't know the info-like me. Text book is super hard to read and hard to understand. Desta is funny and helpful, and seems to be knowledgeable. Just didn't learn anything really.....
Worst online instructor I have had. NEVER responds to emails or discussion posts. She was also very late in posting grades on the 3 papers that are required - so much so that you may have to turn in the 2nd before getting feedback on the 1st. I would not recommend.
Very poor communication and assignments are all over the place. Assignment is to read chapters 12-14, but the quiz includes info from chapters 16 or 17. Hard to stay on top of this. He also takes several days to respond to a question during the week.
I took this class during the summer term where we met for a three hour period twice a week and it was six week course. We went over about two chapters each class in a lecture. Homework was online and was based off of class lecture. Exams were online also and there was plenty of time to finish them. Great professor and class, I would recommend Desta
I am a pseo student (junior in hs). At first it was a bit hard to understand due to his accent but you'll get use to it. The quiz was hard at first but I also got used to that too. He drops 2 quizzes from 8. 2 hw from 8. 4 tests total. As long as you attend class and pay attention.. You'll do well on the quizzes and tests. Read too!
Take good notes in class i.e. write what he writes on the board.. utilize the two attempts he gives and look up questions in the book and you'll get an A.
Class: Econ 1060-52 Principles of Economics Macro Pros: -Lowest 2 test scores at the end of the semester is dropped. -Lowest 2 discussion scores at the end the semester is dropped. -Typically get to take each test twice and the highest score is graded. Cons: -Difficult test. -Little to no interaction with professor. -Not consistent grader.
He knows everything about Economics. good lecture notes and examples.
Do not take this teacher, very difficult to understand, was not in office during his office hours both times i tried to get help.
One of the worst classes I've taken. Maybe it was the online format but the professor was extremely hard to understand and the structure of the class was hard to follow. There was no rhyme or reason when it came to grading papers.
If the only reason you are going to take this class is for credit and that it is required take it; however, if you want to actually learn do not take this class. You do not have to attend class at all.
Overall, Gelgelu was a good professor. His lectures were cear. The course was overall pretty easy. If I wouldn't have forgotten to do some assignments, I would've gotten an A, easily. I was sick for 3 weeks (in and out of the hospital) and skipped every friday and I was still able to get an 85. Drops your 2 lowest quiz and HW scores.
Very boring class where it seems like he's talking about the same stuff every day of class. I usually don't attend class on Fridays, and that doesn't make any difference. You do not have to attend class in order to pass; he doesn't take attendance. The syllabus gives you all of your assignments, where most of the answers can be found on quizlet.
The course is not too difficult, as long as you do all your homework as scheduled, you should do fine on this course.
If you show up to class and take notes the assignments, quizzes, and exams should be relatively easy. He talks about everything that is on the exams in class.
This is my first time a professor inspired/provoked me to write a review about a professor. Out of all the professor I had, he was so far the best professor that I had. This is not because I got a easy A in the class, it's because of how a good of a teacher he is at teaching. If you attend class, you are almost guarantee A or B in the exam.
He is very thorough about what's on the quizzes and exams, he allows more than one attempt. He is rather intimidating and has put people on the spot for why an I assignment wasn't done, things people don't need to know. If you take what he says and study you'll do fine.
He does come off as intimidating, he really isn't. He makes it clear that if you have struggles to reach out to him, HE IS THERE FOR YOU GUYS. I've struggled with his class and he's giving me an opportunity to pull my grade up drastically.
Tests - Online, roughly 40 questions, some are unlimited time or 1:20:00. 4 total tests Quizzes - Pretty decent, 25 questions. 8 total quiz Extra Credit at end of semester for worksheets. Attend every class and write what he writes. I heard microecon good but macro harder because he teachers micro better.
The WORST econ instructor ever. Does not reply to emails, discussions, or even offer any help when asked. Take anyone else but this guy.
Desta is a great professor, some people say he's difficult to understand but I found it easy. He explains everything really well and is a really funny guy. Desta is available outside of class and is very understand as well as always willing to help you out. Great professor take him if you can!
The class' priority isn't learning. It's passing. He built it to be very difficult to fail. Low test, homework, and class activity scores are dropped. I didn't read a single page of the book, passed with a low A. He doesn't speak English very well, and some of the information lectured will be wrong. It will conflict with your book and test.
From my experience with this professor, what he teaches in class is not relative to what we need for homework and quizzes. He was difficult to understand and I had to learn everything on my own outside of class.
He is a very nice person but what is lectured in class does not help enough for outside homework and tests. Although, he does give multiple attempts at the homework and tests so that does help.
Course Syllabus was VERY confusing. Not easy to get ahold of the professor either. Ridiculous.
If I highlight everything that is bad to describe him I would so many things you have to do in the class I took. He doesn't even let you know when a test/ quiz is going to happen for the week. If you have question he is most likely going to say come during office hours, or check the syllabus.
If you've done an online class, you'll do fine in this class. It's like an online class without having to do discussion posts. Book, homework, quizzes and tests are online. You get 2-3 attempts for everything. He lectures pretty much what's in the text. He usually pops up with worksheets here and there, but this class is pretty hard to fail.
I took this class online so I haven't met him in real life but he doesn't seem very organized. There is homework for almost every chapter and some of the due dates are before the reading of that specific chapter is even assigned. His test questions repeat and some have different correct answers. Expected to follow the syllabus which is a hot mess.
I took this class online and I didn't understand anything but somehow managed to get a good grade. If you read and follow the syllabus it tells you the assignments and due dates, pretty straightforward. However, if you don't do well with teaching yourself the material I don't recommend taking him at all. Overall, not really the best or worst.
Online-asyncronous in short 8-week format. No live teaching or lectures. Just self-study. Covered 16 chapters but only grades on 12 chapters. Easy homework, extra credit available for doing homework in all chapters. Tests were multi-choice; could take each one twice for best score. Read the book, do the problems, know the vocab. You'll get an A.
He doesn't really teach- lot's of teaching yourself. Personally I learned very little about microeconomics, but the class itself was easy. There's lots of extra credit too. He's a nice professor and willing to help you with the course if you put in a little effort. I'd take him again.
Very straightforward class. Do the reading, answer the homework questions, watch the lectures, and the tests will be no problem. With how much I dislike economics, He made it not so bad.
The entire semester was laid out so there was a subtle pace to this class. It's very straightforward and a lot of reading. Nevertheless, I liked how I was able to work at my own pace and there was a lot of resources available to study.
if taking online, its self study. he will reopen deadlines for you if you ask nicely. compared to other microecon classes offered at this college, his is the harder one. read the text book and do your homework and youll be fine honestly i got terrible grades on my exams and i still got a B somehow
I took this professor my senior year in PSEO. His grading is extremely confusing and I had no idea what I was at until the end of the year. The way he sets things up and randomly changes due dates left me stressed about things that were unnecessary. The only good thing I can say is that he replies to emails quickly. Overall would not recommend.
Very unorganized and confusing with homework due dates before the chapters were assigned. Tough grader on discussions and homework take a while. However, the homework has 3 attempts and the test has 2 attempts. The tests do not follow the book, and many concepts are hard to follow. Students teach themselves and the professor just assigns the work.
Worst professor I've ever had. EVER. Changed due dates without warning, didn't grade ANYTHING until last day. Tests were super long and confusing. He posted in the feed maybe twice. Was no help, students have to teach themselves. His "study guides" has straight-up un-readable typos and werent even related to the textbook. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
I really liked this professor. He was very considerate and caring. Acknowledging that this was my first year of PSEO, he made it really easy. All the tests are online, my class was once a week we had one packet that was due at the end of the semester which boosted my grade up. I was at an 85% and I turned in the packet and passed with an A. Love it
he has very bad communication when i try talking about my grades, doesnt give feedback, hard grader, unprofessional and is unorganzied, 0/10 recommend do notttt take him!!!
BE A BETTER TEACHER!
for me he was really good at explaining things but did change a lot of due dates without warning
Get ready to teach yourself everything!!!... or cheat a lot.
Even though failed, good teacher. I liked his lectures whenever I did attend. Tough grader and a lot of homework. Can get boring sometimes but overall good professor 4/5.
One word. bad.
Lectures were long and tedious, and if you already understand the material they aren't necessary. However, his grading was very clear and he is very lenient on extending deadlines and giving out extra credit.
Easy class. Gave me full points on almost everything. Class consists of discussion posts, quizzes, homework from the textbook, and 2 tests. As long as you do the readings and use the resources he provides for you, you will 100% do well.
I think a lot of the ratings about this professor are fair and I can see both sides. His lectures are long and not always worth attending, and it can be hard to follow sometimes because of his strong accent. That said, he is very understanding and gives extra time on quizzes if you reach out. Overall, the course itself felt rather dull.
He was very passioante about what he taught, he's not a very personable teacher but knows a lot about what he's talking about. He'll give overviews of the lecture that are easy to follow and if you participate, you will suceed in class.
