What!! this guy is making this stuff up as he goes on. He gets confused easily and does not clear up questions.
possibly the best math teacher i've ever had. once you get used to his personality, he's cool. goes slow, explains thoroughly. answers any questions you have on homework in class. very good teacher.
I had to take his class twice to learn the material. Like some one else said though he is pretty cool and easy going when you get used to his teaching style.Just don't take him in the A.M. if you wanna stay awake.
monotone voice - that's the only negative thing. teaches thoroughly, so advanced students may work ahead while slower students catch up on the material during lecture. tests & quizzes are a breeze!!! he's on my top 10 list of professors!
One of the best cal2 teacher on campus. Very helpful. quizes and tests are similar from the homeworks. so do you your hws and you'll be doing well. Makes the class interesting and easy to understand.
Thurman is the man. At first you don't know how you are going to survive his class but he soon develops a personality. He can and will prove everything(he is the proof master). Test a easy enough and he give a help session before them. Take him.
I took him in the morning, which makes it hard listening to his monotone voice. He has study sessions, but his test are full of the exceptions that usually don't show up on the homework. You'll have to remember EVERYTHING to get a A out of his class.
He's a really good teacher. His classes are super boring, but if you don't miss a day, he gives you extra points on your final grade. Easy quizzes and tests.
This teacher is awful..I don't know where everyone else comes off saying he is great. He doesn't explain anything, He gets confused as he goes along, and he talks so low you can't even understand what the man is saying...he's awful...DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!
He means well but he teaches stupid crap that we learned in fifth grade! It is easy but the tests can be hard...you do not have to do your homework and it sucks having it MWF at 900 and having to listen to him so early
He is as boring as watching paint dry. Lazy and not to helpful. He is a nice guy, but not a math teacher
Thurman is a decent teacher, he really knows his stuff. Test are fair but quite difficult for the most part. He tries to help out students by giving help sessions for the upcoming tests which helps out a little.
Can I get my tests back NOW! He takes forever to get stuff back to you. So boring makes you wanna cry. The class is out dated (not his fault) it needs to be revised!
AWESOME teacher-best yet. The only complaints are from the idiots in the back of class who don't pay attention. He's easy, thorough, and goes at a snail's pace. You have to be a complete moron to do bad in there-he holds help sessions ALL the time. :)
Watching paint dry is more interesting than Dewey. He is a good teacher though. He's funny in his own way. Makes jokes. A little slow with getting tests and quizzes back though.
He is a great teacher. As long as you do the HW and understand it, it is an easy A. There is no slacking in Calculus. His tests are just like the HW, no tricks. Plus, he goes over anything you are having a problem with and explains it very well.
Ok, this guy is SOOO BORING!!!! Reminds me of the Clear Eyes guy, except freakier looking. Not too hard of a class, if you can stay awake! Thinks your questions are dumb, he doesn't see why you don't understand. Has study sessions for the tests though
I really like him, he helped me out SO much when I took his class, he goes slow, but I like that. It is a boring class, but if I had any more math to take, I would be sure to get into his class. DEWEY IS AWESOME!
He is slow, so it is easy to keep up with him. He does speak sofly but, that does not reflect his teaching ability. Hey stupid, if you can't hear him sit in the front of the class. If you don't like what he is teaching, change majors. Its important stuff.
I have never done good in math but I did in this class. If you study you will do just fine. I always studied the night before the tests and did good on them. If you go to class you get extra points too!
His class is very easy! He goes very slow and has not given us many tests. The only bad thing is he talks very quietly. He is usually late for class!!!
Thurman rocks. If you study and do homework you will do fine. Tip: get solutions manual and stop by his office w/questions. He's very helpful.
Not a good teacher. I tried my hardest and he actually wrote "Are you stupid?" on one of my tests or would write "Duh." beside my problems on my homework. Scary! But, he will help if you give him enough chances.
Dewey Kicks Butt!!!! He is sooo sweet. He bought the whole entire class Chocolates. The class is easy.
He is a nice guy
If you can teach yourself, you will do very well in this class. Do you homework, and you can do every test and quiz problem you get. Takes him all class to do 1-2 problems, and is always 10-13 minutes late. Not quite long enough to get to leave.
Prof. Thurman is a very nice guy that will try his best to help you understand the problems. He assigns homework but doesn't grade it, do the homework! tests and quizes are easy if you study.
Dewey has to be the easiest teacher ever!!! He is kind of slow and boring, but he is pretty nice. He can also be kind of funny sometimes, too!
He is very monotone. His tests can be moderately easy if you study. He takes attendance every day. He adds 3 points to final grade if you do not miss a single class. His lectures have no clarity. He is hard to understand. He is not good at giving explanations.
He is a procrastinator!!! Study the tests and the quizzes for his final. That is if he actually gives them all back to you. Beg for them.. like i said.. he is a procrastinator!!!
Easy class, have to attend, I stopped listening way too early in the course and ended up teaching it to myself. He is pretty monotone and boring, but a nice guy just the same. He'll work with ya.
Dr. Thurman may be boring in class, but he definitely explains things in a way you can understand. He is very helpful and is super sweet. If you pay attention in class it is impossible to do bad.
Hi's very lethargic and his monotone voice is incredibly irritating, but the quizzes and tests are very easy if you study your book-class notes are NO help at all because he has no organization when he lectures. You never have to do homework until he tells you in advance he'll be taking it up.
Dewey is really cool! I recommend taking him. even if he does have a monotone voice and hardly has an expression on his face. He teaches slow which I like. It gives me time to take notes and understand how to work the problems. easy class.tests and quizes aren't hard if you look over your notes
Always late, but he is a good teacher. Make sure to study from the book though. The class is tough but he's probably your best bet for passing.
He's really easy and takes his time. He doesn't rush through, so he's easy to follow and explains the material very well. Quizzes and tests are pretty easy. I recommend him definately!
Dr. Thurman is extremely nice and wants to be helpful. He makes jokes in class that you only get if you are paying attention, because he is very monotone and unexciting and seems quite boring in a glance. It's easy if you try and want to do well. He'll help if you just ask.
Dewey D. is a very odd crature. He is funny, yet subtle. He makes jokes but they are hidden behind boring sludge. He teaches well and allows for make ups. Not alot of homework either. Good Teacher
He was the best math teacher I had at Tech. No matter how many questions I had in class, he would answer every single one. I would recommend him for any class you could get him for. Although he does not have his doctorate, he's a better professor than those that have the degree and don't know how to explain it. Dewey was awsome!
He's a decent teacher. His tests arent too hard, and he tries to explain everything as best he can. IF you dont get it after he explains it a few ways, he WILL make you feel stupid. Dosn't hold to the syllabus too adamantly. Homework optional.
the funniest person at tech, its just not many people understand his jokes, i think i'm one of the few who understand them all. he would be my 1st option if i ever had to take a class he was teaching again
Dewey is one of the best, he is really dull at some times but he knows that he is talking about and almost over expains the material. Stay awake and you will do fine.
If you consider him doing three of the hardest examples in class as teaching then you will do fine. If not you will prolly wanna pull your hair out.
If you want an easy A, take Thurman! He only gives 6 quizes and takes up homework maybe 4 times but tells you the class before if you need to do the hw and exactly what is on the quiz. He gave us a study guide and answer key for each test. If you listen, he has a sense of humor!
Dewey was the best teacher I have had here at Tech. He is VERY concerned how everyone is doing, and he is very helpful. He holds help sessions before each test. He explains everything very well. I really enjoyed this Math class, and I don't even like Math. Come to class and let him know you are trying and you won't have any trouble. Take Him!
Dewey is awesome! He gives a few tests during the semester, but you can retake one of them at the end to raise your grade. He takes up homework, but only after he warns you! He explains everything in great detail. He is really funny, in a weird sort of way. Take him, he will help to improve your GPA.
Grades fair, test are easy if you study. I felt stupid for not getting better grades on some of the test after we went over them, ha! Great teacher, little or no "required" homework even though it does help because will sometimes copy problems with different numbers or maybe a different power. Overall, probably the best math teacher on the campus.
Good teacher. Explains everything well. If you have problems, he will help. He gives about 12 quizzes, 10 of which make up a test grade, and they are easy so that can help pull your grade in the class up.
Gotta love the K-Swiss shoes. Man is a gangster, pure and simple. Hilarious to watch him teach. Do the homework and show up to class; you will be fine.
Take a class with this guy he is awesome. Classroom might look like a dungeon and smell and always be hot though but hey the room is not the teacher and he is good. Very helpful answers all questions wanted and unwanted so dont talk unless you want an answer. My favorite class and i hate math.
If you have to take Math 1010 instead of College Algebra or such, take his class. This class is probably the easiest class I have had in college. Going into my final, I had a 104 average.
Dr. Thurman is a good professor. Math is not one of my favorite subjects and never will be, but he made it less a pain. He seems to be a fair grader, too.
Very smart.. but he is really monotonic and quiet. His quizes are easy, he gives partial credit, and if you do good on the tests (study!) then you will make an A. Take him, but not at 8 am or you will sleep in class every day.
He is a very quiet man so if you sit in the back you will have a hard time hearing him. He is a great teacher though. This class is really easy. I hated math but he made it painless.
Sit in front row to understand. You don't have to go every day but sometimes he will randomly add points to your next testgrade if not many people show up. It's important to attend the review days- this is when everything comes together and makes sense! Sometimes he loked like he just rolled out of bed but he seems to really like math..Easy A!
Take this class! Great teacher. He was very thorough in his teaching. If you have a question about something he will do his best to make sure you get an answer and understand it. He seems to really care about the success of his students as well.
Thurman is a pretty boring teacher, but you do learn a lot in his class. The way he teaches math is pretty easy to understand. I am awful at math and I still got a B! Take him if you can b/c he is a lot easier than the other 1420 teacher.
He is a nice guy, but he is very difficult to listen to. He speaks in a monotonic voice and a very low one too. DONT TAKE HIS 8AM CLASS! I fell asleep in half of them, he also takes attendance, and docks you points if you miss a number of days. His quizzes are mostly memorization, if you like that, then he is your guy. SIT IN THEN FRONT ROW!
Math 1010 is excessively easy, and Thurmon goes slowly. I took naps in his class, did a grand total of around twenty minutes of homework and got an A.
Very easy, very boring. I guess that's how MATH 1010 is supposed to be. Easy A if you can read numbers and operators.
Extremely easy. To give you an idea, I didn't do any of the homework until 2 days before one of the tests and I got a 100 on it. Taking notes didn't really help either. Also, GO TO CLASS!! He sometimes won't tell you when you're having a quiz until the day before.
Oh Dewey. He is a very monotonous man with a dry sense of humor. At times he can be difficult to focus your attention on but if you listen and take notes the tests and quizzes are not hard. He takes attendance by passing a sheet for you to right your name down so if you have a buddy in the class take advantage of it. Overall an easy B. no real hw
Dewey Thurman is an interesting man. He's got a dry sense of humor and talks quietly, but he explains things very well, and the homework he assigns prepares well for the test. He gives lots of short quizzes, but all of them are announced, sometimes the day before, so GO TO CLASS! The homework is not mandatory, but if you do it, the tests are easy.
I had Dr. Thurman for Calc 1 - easy, easy A. He's very dry, and he progresses through the material slowly. (Perhaps a little too slowly, to be honest, since we had to skip a fair portion of Chapter Four.) On the other hand, you will know the material covered. And maybe more, if you listen to his dry asides. Think 'cubic formula'. Recommended!
Talks quietly, some dry humor, hes a funny guy. Took him for calc2, hes very helpful...takes his time grading because hes, "trying to figure out your thought process"...gives *plenty* of partial credit. The tests aren't too hard as long as you take them seriously. I would DEFINITELY take him again if I had the chance, hes a great teacher.
Dr.Thurman was a good professor he has a monotonic voice, but if you pay attention you will definitely understand the material. His quizzes are really easy if you at least look at the homework assigned to you, the test are not too hard if you actually do your homework and the final comes pretty much from the four tests given to you.
Really good teacher. Knows what he is talking about and knows how to get it across to you. Will answer any question and will give a study session on harder chapters. He allows you to miss 12 classes but you shouldn't. Do the homework even though he doesn't make you. If you don't it will show.
He is an excellent teacher...he's pretty mono-toned, but he's still great! He is super helpful and his tests are easy. It's pretty much an easy A if you do the homework (he NEVER takes it up), and go to every class (you can miss like 9). If you have the chance definitely take him!
Dewey is a really nice man. He's old and mono-toned, but his class is VERY easy. He assigns homework that he never takes us...NEVER! His grades on quizes and tests. Pretty much just pay attention the day before a quiz or test and you'll be fine. It's an easy 'A' class!
Mr. Thurman is a great Math professor. He never takes up homework. Your final grade is made up of 3 tests, 6 quizzes (he drops the lowest one), and the final. Super simple class! I made an A. I suggest never missing a class. If you go the class period before Thanksgiving, he'll give you extra credit! The final is made up of previous test questions.
He taught this class things we all learned in fifth grade. More boring than you can imagine. You can probably sleep through every class and get an A. He assigns homework every day but he never checks it. He also seems a bit condescending to some people when they ask questions. He also doesn't do well with email. I do NOT recommend him.
Great teacher. Nice guy and very funny (sometimes not on purpose). He is mono-toned, and I guarantee you that you wont like him at first, but trust me he will grow on you. Definitely take him if possible. Easy to get a good grade and yet you still learn a lot.
He's monotoned and will put you to sleep. He never takes up homework. If you go to class the day before a quiz he passes out a study guide that is veryuch like the quiz and he sends out the answers to the study guides. Very easy.
This guy is awesome. His quizzes are easy and his tests are very manageable. He's given us a lot of extra credit points as well, simply because he takes too long to grade things. Take this guy!
Love this professor. He explains things very well and goes back over it if you have questions. Do the homework! Tests use problems like the homework and practice problems. Attendance is key too. Take him!
The BEST math teacher I've had in years. If I could take Mr. Thurman for every math class, I would do it. His explanations and experienced, matter of fact teaching made Calculus II seems easy.
Awesome Teacher. Very helpful and a funny guy.
Dr. Thurman is an awesome teacher. If he taught every math class that I had to take, you can bet I would take him for all of them. He made Calculus 2 seem sooooo easy and I barely made a C in Calculus 1
I have never had such a hard time paying attention in any class. He is VERY easy and goes over things as often as you need...slowly, but patiently..If you get bored with class easily DO NOT take him. Great guy...VERY VERY VERY boring.
he is NOT an easy teacher as far as lectures. tests are rather straight, and he does give everyone extra points sometimes. His lectures are VERY boring. He is VERY quiet (mumbles). Don't take him unless you wish to learn mostly on your own from the book. He writes a problem on the board and flies through it. If you're behind, you will not catch up.
Sit near the front so you can hear him. The quizzes and tests are pretty straight forward. If you memorize the formulas and know how to apply them, then nothing should look crazy on test day. He sometimes gives extra credit. It wasn't often for my class; it probably happens more during fall semester.
If you want to do well in this class, sit in the front of the room so you can hear him. He tends to mumble and go off on tangents. Quizzes/tests straight forward; memorize the formulas. DO THE HOMEWORK otherwise, you'll fall behind. This is a class you HAVE to study for.
he is very difficult to listen to.
Soooo easy! Had him for both elementary maths and made A's. He sends out practice problems and solutions for every quiz and test as long as you know how to do those then you're gonna do great. Don't buy the book bc he doesn't even take up HW EVER unless you just want something to help you but seriously you can't fail his class unless you don't try
This class is pretty straight forward. He sends out practice problems just like the ones on the tests and quizzes. I literally played on my phone the whole class and never paid attention and I still came out of the class with a high average. He NEVER takes up homework. Just memorize the formulas for the practice problems and you should be fine!
I would definitely take his class again. it was pretty easy. If you actually talk to him he can be really helpful. I missed his 8am one day when he passed back a test and I went in late to get it and he took his time and actually went over every problem I got wrong with me. even though it was my fault I missed his class. He's a nice guy.
Very easy!! Sends you practice problems and solutions for every quiz and test you have. Assigns HW but NEVER takes it up so I never did it. I had him for both elementary maths and made an A in both. And you can miss like 12 days before it affects you but sometimes adds a point to final grade if you miss only a couple days. Also gives extra credit on quizzes and test after he hands them back if something was wrong or just to be nice. Take him!
Dewey is a very odd professor. He moves at a very slow pace in not only the classroom but also in life. He sends out problems the night before a test/quiz and that's the only thing I ever did. I went to class did those problems and was fine. Some may need to do more though
A super easy.
He is quiet when he is teaching and sometimes talks about things not aren't math related. He is overall a good teacher and willing to help anyone. I would take him again and its a easy class.
He is not very clear on what he teaches and when he is explaining a problem he will second guess himself. When he gave quizzes they were for material we covered weeks ago and not many did well on them. You basically have to teach yourself. Takes attendance every class. Assigns homework but never takes it up for a grade.
I just went through the section and took notes. He assigns homework, but it's not for a grade. I did it as extra practice for the test, so I basically just taught myself, especially since I skipped sometimes. He takes attendance but skipping won't count against you. His quiztest formats are super basic. Final is easy. I aced his class.
IT'S VERY FOOD PROFESSOR FOR THS CLASS, AND IT IS VERY HELPFUL,, YOU CAN GET FULL CRIDET JUST ATTENDING THE CLASS
He's a great professor. Easy Tests and gives extra points a lot. just show in the class and study his notes. You will definitely love his class. Sometimes I feel sleepy when he lecturers but he's a hilarious guy.
