Great teacher. She faces people everyday who feel threatened by her teachings and she faces them with dignity and grace. Very good class!
She is a great woman and teacher!
Dian is a great teacher. This class has really opened my eyes and she has been instrumental. This class was hard but definetly worth it.
Very awesome teacher, if you are a guy, then take this class, you will learn so much about women, I know I learned a lot more than I thought I would.
Dian is extremely talented. This class requires a lot of reading time, but well worth it. Don't be afraid to look at yourself if want to learn something. This class will transform you into a better human being.
I was a little sad that so much of the class wasn't about WOMEN. We are spending nearly half the class talking about other minority groups. Whish there was more open class discussion. And pray you don't miss a class! Strick attendance!
A wonderful WS teacher - honest and open. Knows her field well, as well as the related fields. Strict attendance policy, but she will answer your questions, no matter how against her own opinions they may be. Can handle stress and is a great humanitarian. Don't be afraid guys - she's cool.
Dont miss class! If you do all the readings and look at all the websites you should do fine. Just be ready for the projects and follow the outline she gives closely. Not a debate type of class, even if shes wrong.
good teacher, but i don't know who said she is hot?
I loved her! And the class was so eye opening, absolutly a most have class. and teacher!
I like this class, but there's one thing I would change. I wished that we learned more about women and not about minority groups and different sexual orientations. I also wish that we could have open discussions with some debate mixed in. Dian is a good teacher though and is very helpful.
Lots of reading, writing...you will have quiz every class...but this class may change how you see the world. Dian is great!!
This class is Great!, she speaks the truth! If you can't handle the truth then don't take this class.Do the reading and the class will be easy. Assignments and Quizes are easy. She is open minded and allows debate, but if you debate please have a knowledge of what your talking bout. Be open minded!
Her class was a real reality check for me. I learned so much not only about the world around me but about myself and my life. She is a fabulous and fair teacher.
Great class! Great teacher! Lots and lots of work though .. attendance very important!
Get teacher.
great teacher! She gives lots of homework but it is to your benifit. learned allot.
This is probably the most interesting class I have taken within my last two years at Clark. Dian is wonderful. To get through this class you must be open minded and keep your "critical thinking skills caps" on the whole time. There is quite a bit of reading but if you've got that down and you follow the syllabus, you're golden. Take this class!!
Coolest teacher EVAARR.
Attendance policy is crap. Plus we barely talked about women just about minority groups. And I'm sorry but the masturbation lesson was so useless, we should have talked more about women's contributions, not how to pleasure ourselves.
Dian is very open with her students. She makes you think hard, but makes class super exciting. I took several classes from her at Clark, and she wrote several recommendations for me. Involve yourself, and she will reward you.
AWSOME TEACHER. I loved her WS 101 class. I would definantly take another class of hers if possible. At first, she may come off as somewhat extreme, but withint two weeks of her class, I really warmed up to, and LOVED the class. I would recommend her to anyone. SHES AWSOME!
I hated this class, talk about teachers pushing their beliefs on students. Unless you agree with her, you won't do good. She hates men and single them out. She's also a total hypocrite. If she wants women to be treated equally, then she needs to treat men equally. I don't recomend her class if you want to learn anything. She implied that I needed a fricken dildo.

I feel that it was refreshing to hear the other perspective for once. The media is only as libral as the conservative, white, old men who own it.
She doesn't really like to hear guys talk too much, but if you sit back and listen you can really learn something and was a fairly easy class. She knows her stuff
Best class I have taken at Clark. You leave the class with a new outlook on life. She is very passionate about the subject. The homework is pretty easy and they are fun assignments. I would recommend her to everyone.
This class was great, even the guys in our class said they came away with a better understanding of not only Womens issues but Societal issues. Dian gives eveyrone a chance to express thier opinions and share thier experiences. Great teacher, Great class!
As a christian and a thinking, caring human being, I am SO glad that Dian addressed the issues that are "hot buttons" in our society such as gender roles, homosexuality, sex ed, racism, etc. I loved her classes and would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who wants to step outside of their narrow perspectives and learn about how the world really is.
Learned a lot abot the topic. Instructor presents only one viewpoint and treats other concepts as false without allowing the student to make a determination. Harsh grading at times. Test questions can be misleading. With minor modifications professor could be top flight!
This class was the best class I've taken thus far. At times the class IS intense. Be prepared to be an active learner in this class. I recommend this class to everyone and think it should be a requirement. It has certainly empowered me to be involved in the feminist community.
This class was wonderful! Dian works with her students and provides them with everything they need to learn. She is approachable, open minded, and a lot of fun. She creates a safe environment in her classroom. She covers a lot issues some Women's Studies classes do not even touch on. I think her class should be a required requisite.
I am currently in the DL WS101 class and find it a huge waste of my time. There are a ton of reading assignments and long movies you have to watch. You have to do 2-4 assignments a week plus post on the dicussion boards weekly. The teacher is very critical and grades harshly. She rarely gives positive remarks usually negative. Dont do DL class!
As a Christian and a law enforcment officer, I found that this class was statistically wrong in many ways. A lot of Her views were her own views. For those who are believers in christ, it would be best to not get your buttons pushed or your brian washed by taking this course. Don't get me wrong, she did no a lot and have good ways of viewing societ
I absolutly loved this class and the teacher, it was so much fun!!!
I absolutely loved this class! I didn't know what to expect at first, but I am so glad I took it. I learned and grew so much over the quarter of taking it. It's not all about women, but it's about people who are opressed and outside the norm in our society. I never missed a day, very critical as she takes attendance. Just do all the work and do
A passionate teacher that adds spark to her lessons and lectures. I like the class but wish there was more time for class discussion and debates.
This class is amazing. I learned so much about myself. Shes an amazing teacher
Had a great time, and very much enjoyed her class and learned a lot of things that i still think about to this day!
I chose Dian because I heard good reviews- HUGE mistake. I'm an extremely liberal female & I thought she was a terrible teacher. Everyone in the class hates it. Don't even think about questioning her information either or you will fail. She graded the men in our class much harsher & thinks everyone is morally inferior to her. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
Dian is a very thorough instructor. I did not agree with some of the course material, but I worked my tail off and cleaned up. In contrast to what I've read here, Dian actually respected the males in the class, even developed a good rapport with all of them. Intense. If you are homophobic, you may learn not to be in this class.
This was a class on racism, not women. Nearly everything is **** in her opinion, and the class is just plain ridiculous. In order to get an A you need to take VERY good notes on the textbook readings for the quizes, and bs your papers to seem like you've actually learned something. You need to just kind of nod and agree with whatever she says.
she is an AMAZING instructor. the people that tend to have a hard time with the class. either because of the homework or they do not like Dian are the people that seem to have a hard time opening their mind to other views and opinions, either way I think everyone takes something valuable from the course. major eye opener class! i wish it was a mand
If you have tons and tons of time to commit to just one class and are able to be brain washed then this class is for you! So much homework, reading from the book, 3 big assingments and 2 huge tests. Dont even think about questioning her lectures (which is all she does) or else you'll put a target on your back for the rest of the quarter. BEWARE!!!
UGH!! is it over yet? She kicks people out of class if they dare to challenge her in class. Tons of reading and study guides. Her attendance policy is stupid. Don't forget to turn in your "what have I learned today" paper at the end of each class or you will be marked absent, never mind the fact you sat in class & participated in HER discussions.
Dian is not a bad person, but what she teaches is totally against God and Bible... She teaches people to be not responsible for their actions, finds excuses for every sin, people can think of... I'd recommend for people who are true Christians no to take this class, because you will hear a lot of inappropriate things...Good luck!
I absolutely loved this class! Yes, it is a controversial class so if you are a close-minded person, you are obviously not going to enjoy it. Diane is totally awsome. Some people just have a hard time with a woman who refuses to just 'go with the flow'. Too bad for them, they could have gotten a lot from this class.
Strict attendance, lots of reading. A college class where you actually have to pay attention, and do the work? Imagine that! This is not a fluff class; you're expected have reasonable intelligence and critical thinking skills. And most of all an open mind. If you're not capable of these things, you will probably hate this class.
The problems people have with the class are not truly with Ulner, but the material. WS can reveal things about yourself you weren't aware of, no matter how open minded you thought you were. If you want to remain ignorant, stay away. If you want to be a better human being, take this class.
What a great teacher, and the class is an eye opener, keep an open mind when taking this class, she is a great teacher and there is a quiz every day so read your book. Cryed sometimes but you learn alot about each other and even yourself. Guys don't be afraid to take this class you will learn alot, and get the ladies.
I will defend this teacher no matter what. Her class isn't the easiest because she actually has expectations for her students. I respect her for teaching such a controversial subject and I wish more people would take her class. It is about women but it is also about respecting other people. I enjoyed her class and I think she is a great professor.
I took Dian for WS101 and was so blown away by the experience that I had to come back for more. RCGS is an amazing class and I highly recommend it. Dian is definitely one of the best professors on campus and I am thankful for all that she has taught me.
Great teacher, on of the best i've ever had. Such an inspiring class i would recommend her to anyone. Her textbooks are really interesting especially f you take Race, class, gender and sexuality, some of my fav books really helpful and fun also really aware of different groups of people. LOVE HER!
The quarter is almost over and I am so sad to be finishing her class! Dian is an amazing woman and is very inspirational in many different ways. The assigned homework is no picnic but it is extremely informative and encourages you to open your mind on a lot of unexplored issues in our culture. You will not be disappointed by this class!!!
being a male i wasn't too sure what i was getting into. dian made that very clear right off. she is all about fairness for everyone, actually the most nonjudgmental person i have ever met. great teacher. lots of text work and outside assignments, but very interesting and guaranteed to open your mind. she keeps a 2 1/2 hour class very interesting.
Dian is not nice to male students. Her directions are vauge, her tests are too hard. As a women's studies teacher she is very nice to females. Worst class I've ever taken, by far. If you have a question she will answer it by saying, "its in the sylibus." her sylibus is over 10 pages long. Good luck males.
Very willing explain things you're having trouble understanding. She cares about her students. Very inspiring. She made it clear at the start that you don't have to agree with what is taught, but you still have to know it, you still have to LISTEN. She's fair, and isnt mean to males who take the class (one of many false stereotypes about W.Studies)
If you want to do 6 readings a week, answer 50 questions about the readings everyweek. Do two hands on activities a week and write several summaries of videos and connect them to the reading. Go For it! The material is really interesting but find another teacher she thinks you have no life outside her class.
Don't take this class for her! The material really challenges you as a human being but the whole time you feel like Diane is Oppressing you and forcing the beliefs that her life and the material that she teaches on you! If you you disagree you run the risk of getting a bad grade! take it form someone else!
She is not easy. But she is incredibly fair. She teaches amazing and the material is very easy to understand, if not, she will put it another way if you need it rephrased. Very willing to help. She is an amazing teacher and highly recommended. She really cares about her students. She is so understanding and really makes this class a lot of fun.
There's a lot of reading, but you get a lot out of the class if you want to.
Having an open mind is critical to this class. Dian is fair, reasonable, and willing to explain concepts in more than one way so that you can understand. Dian doesn't expect you to agree with everything she says, she just expects you to listen. Also, her lectures are really discussions. She states very clearly that she wants you to ask questions.
i feel bad for all those dumb people who take her class AND don't learn anything from it..NOT. She states from the very beginning that if you're a slacker drop the course. Her class is challenging and she expects you to really learn the material. Don't be ignorant because she WILL call you out for it because you should be.
She is awesome!Def not a class for slackers, but isn't super difficult.Read a TON yet she teaches material that you'll actually use in life.Do the WS for the readings and pay attention in class and you'll do great! Two tests: midterm and final. Both m-choice/matching. She wants you to open up and see the world in a new way. Shes def in my top faves
Dian will change your life and will forever be your best friend. A teacher you can pop into class at any time, and you will want to after this class. Just to come say Hi, or sit in on her amazing panel's of people she gets to come have conversations with you.
class was very emotionally challenging. It will really open your eyes. Diane has been very kind and patient with me as I struggle with almost everything she says, yet she is very respectful and understanding of my differences of opinions. Love the class and the teacher!!!
This is such a great class. Dian is really interesting and knows how to get her point across without offending anyone. There are a lot of guest speakers that really challenge your every day thinking. Don't take this class if you aren't open to new things and learning about yourself.
She is a very open minded and friendly teacher. This class is extremely interesting if youre willing to express yourself and understand were others are coming from. Sometimes you are uncomfortable but i loved the class! Homework is easy and theres a ton og guest speakers!
At first I was on the brink of dropping the class, i'm SOOO glad I didn't. This was my favorite class i've EVER taken at clark. She's an awesome teacher, I learned more then I ever guessed I would. It fully changed my outlook on life. I'd love to take another class from her.
I went into this class with a low opinion Women's Studies, and didn't expect to like it at all, but thanks to an AWESOME teacher who was able to explain tough concepts in a way that didn't make me shut down, this class changed the way I look at the world. This class should be required to graduate. I can't recommend it, or the teacher enough!
Honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had. This class is not for the ignorant or stubborn people out there. If you are willing to learn what life is like for other people, you will love this class.
Took this online. Given 3 tries for quizes each week. Watched a lot of movies. Very interesting, learned a lot. Dian is very helpful and easy to talk to. Non-judgmental but also stands up for what's right.
Took this as a weekend hybrid class. She is the best teacher ever. She is easy but also challenges you enough that you walk away a changed person. You will know what I mean after a class with her.
This class: Racism and White Privilege was an amazing class. Every college student should take it. You will be challenged, no matter what your heritage/gender. Three weeks of online assignments then a full weekend of class, then a paper to write and a one-on-one mtg. Its mind blowing and causes soul searching, much more than you would expect!
Dian Ulner is one of the best teachers I have had a Clark. She is very down to earth and helpful with the information we are learning. She gives a lot of her personal experiences to share with the class. I learned so much from her and the class that better myself as a human being. Highly recommend her for any course!
really personable teacher. she made an effort to make sure everyone was participating and understood the course material. looking forward to taking another course with Dian as the instructor
By far one of the most interestingamazing classes I have taken at Clark. If you plan on taking Women's Studies take Dian. She is funny, very smart, and mostly unbiased. You definitely need the text book, because you do a lot of reading. I would also highly advise you to do the optional study guides she provides.
This class has changed my life, and Dian is an amazing instructor. Never a boring time and her lectures are very informative as well as entertaining. would take this class 1000 more times. Lots of assignments and reading, but so worth it.
This course should be called Race Studies, not Women's Studies! I thought that in taking this class I would learn a lot about women's rights, issues, role in societyhistory (etc.), but this was not the case. We have spent most of the course learning about white privilege, racism, tons of "isms", etc. and what Dian believes about each.
By looking at the reviews and easiness i was skeptical about taking this class. on the first day she showed us are assigned readings and i wanted to drop out because i thought it would be to much but it wasn't it was very interesting. TAKE THIS CLASS, it makes you go out of your comfort zone, and also challenges you on your views. I loved it.
Dian is a wonderful professor, she is knowledgeable and really passionate about her classes and students. She puts a lot of effort into teaching up to date materials. Go to class, it became a safe space for me, it could've for you. There is lots to read, discuss, and discover. Sheiks very clear on how she grades: relies on canvas.
This class changed my life. Because of Dian, I changed my major to Womens Studies. I have learned to see racism, sexism, genderism, and many other "isms" in a completely different light and Dian created an environment for me that was safe. I left the final day of class crying because it ended. DEFINITELY TAKE THIS CLASS. Dian is literally the best.
One of the best teachers I have taken at Clark. Very helpful when needed to be, explains concepts until you get it, doesn't give up on students. She does assign a lot of homework and readings but its only to help you understand. Midterm you get to use a note card and the final is a recap of the midterm; I would take any of her classes.
I had an amazing time in Dian's class! she is very compassionate and cares about all of her students and their opinions. She explains the concepts very thoroughly and will go over whatever you ask. She does assign a lot of reading but I loved all of it because it pertains to our lives right now. I was never bored in her class and met amazing people
This class was extremely interesting. Dian is a very experienced and knowledgeable person and she is always bringing in people of all colors to come talk and interact with the class. Expect to learn a lot more than anticipated. On the downside, there is a lot of reading and a quiz due before each class.
There were weekly quizzes that seemed impossible to do well on but they weren't worth all that much. She had lots of guest speakers which kept the class interesting. The midterm and final tests were fairly easy.
Dian is one of my favorite professors at Clark so far. They are very caring of their students, and their assignments are relatively easy. However, the quizzes that occur twice a week on Canvas can be very difficult (thankfully they are not a lot of points.) Just be sure to read through the readings carefully, and you'll do fine on them.
This is a good professor but beware there is a lot of reading, conversations and assignments on sexuality, gender, transgender, gays, lesbians, etc. If you don't feel comfortable learning about that, don't take this class. I took it and did not enjoy it one bit. But the teacher is nice and knows her stuff.
For this class, there was a mandatory face to face weekend class. These classes were 6-9 hours long but very informative(you will have to talk) There's 6 short essays(300-500 words) for the final. I accidentally sent a blank document for the final and she was patient with me and graded my essays even though they were late. Very helpful.
Dian is really great to work with, and is very understanding with individuals' lives. There is a lot of homework, but it doesn't take much time to do, and it's easy to get 100%. There is plenty of extra credit available too. Lectures are very interesting. If you're closed minded with everything, you wont pass Dian's classes. Open mindedness A
at least two tests per week, a lot of reading which you have to complete if you want an A, participation is a must. Dian is a wonderful teacher and if you can deal with the workload this class is amazing.
Amazing professor! They will change your life. I realized I had been going about social justice and activism all wrong. They are kind, funny, and know their material well. Their lectures are easy to follow and they love questions. They make study guides that you can use on tests and quizzes. Highly recommend!!!!
Dian Ulner was one of the best professors I've ever taken a class from. They have such a strong grasp of their field and lectures/discussions are always fascinating. You'll need to really work for your grade, which includes attendance and reading, but Dian truly goes above and beyond to ensure that concepts are understood and lives are changed.
I was expecting a lot more out of this class than I ended up getting. We were strictly learning off her opinions, and learned more about racism in a class that is suppose to be about women. 2 quizzes a week that are quit difficult, with a ton of readings. Wouldn't recommend.
Dian is a fantastic and inspirational professor! They truly care about each and every one of their students, and their lessons really open up your eyes to the world around you. you will have to read A LOT, but it's worth it in the end if you keep an open mind to everything thats being taught. 10/10 would recommend this class
Dian provides a difficult class, that requires a lot of effort and ability to understand new concepts. Dian is an exceptional human being who really cares about their students. Although their work load is quite large, I would definitely take this class again in a heart beat and highly recommend it! Dian is my favorite professor yet.
Great teacher, didn't know she existed before I took this class but apparently has a cult following. She gives accurate information and judges fairly. Super supportive and teaches well.
As a student of color Dian is one the safest white people on campus and will listen and support you. They have an intersectional approach to feminism so if you wanted to learn only about white women take women's studies on a different campus. I recommend every single person take any class they teach.
They are extremely liberal and a hard core Feminist. Which isnt a bad thing but they can sometimes take things to the extreme. I found myself disagreeing with what they were lecturing most of the time. However, her class is easy to pass and the work isnt hard, its a pretty easy 5 credit class, but painful to be in class listening to her lectures
Dian is the best professor I have EVER had. They are really passionate about the topics we cover and it is so amazing to learn so many new things. There is an online quiz each week based on 4-5 readings, and you get two tries. About every 2 weeks theres a writing assignment, and a final @ end . EVERYONE should take this class no matter your gender.
No break for a 2 and a half hour class... rip. Shes a really nice teacher and I appreciate how caring she is towards EVERYONE, I just don't really like the content. I feel like this class is literally the reason why our society is so annoying and soft... super eh. Was forced to take this for my major... just EH
Dian is a great professor and really cares about their students. They stress throughout the term that you do not have to become a feminist to get an A in the class, but rather just learn the material and show up. Very eye opening with guest speakers. Only downside to the class were the amount of reading. Highly recommend for everyone to take.
Dian is the best professor that I've had at Clark! There is quite a bit of reading, but not unbearable. There are 2 quizzes a week, a few writing assignments and activities throughout the quarter, midterm, and final. If you do the reading, pay attention in class, and participate, you'll do great! They are always willing to help and were great!
I loved this class. Even if you are not a feminist Dian is an incredible teacher and is wonderful at providing unbiased information. Dian is an amazing teacher. If you are lucky enough to take their class, I highly recommend it.
Dian is by far one of the best professors I've ever had; taking their women's studies classes in 2016 lit a fire in my heart and changed the course of my life forever. These classes will likely challenge your internalized beliefs, so stay open and willing to consider new ideas. Be prepared to have your mind (and entire concept of society) blown!
