The hard course makes you want to hate her but she isnt that bad
take shoja! he makes the course less intimidating
GREAT
No Comments
She seems like a professor that doesn't care about her students, but if you go to her for help and talk to her about her horses she will love you. The class is not easy but neither is Shojas.
evil evil evil
Worst Professor ever! NEVER take her!
You have to be willing to put in the effort necessary to do well. She is extremely helpful, if you go for extra help, she will do all she can for you. Do not underestimate her, you will learn a lot..as long as you're not a slacker.
She teaches with enthusiasm, but not always clear. She is alright.
At first, Dr. Bray seemed really tough and mean, but after talking with her during office hours you realise that she is always willing to offer a helping hand to her students. She was really great
she is a little scary, especially when you ask her questions. she always replies with a question for you, so be careful but as long as you do the hw and go over the old tests online, you will do good. she curves too. a 65 can be as high as a B-

Bray rules! Shoja has a HUGE accent and you can barely understand what he says. If you want to understand stuff in class, she is the way to go. On the other hand, Shoja kinda tells his class what to expect on the tests. If u are good in chem, take her
I love this lady! I'm halfway through the semester and it's my easiest class. She makes everything verrrry clear and gives great notes. The only textbook for the class is $10. The last test was straight from the notes and text. Great prof!
Very clear with what is on the test. Questions come directly from the notes and text. If you study, this class will be the easiest science requirement. She is a great teacher. Definately reccommend.
She thinks she's better than you. She will let you know in class & in office hours. If you enjoy being patronized, definitely take her!
Love this lady!! She is so sweet, and always shows her concern and interest in her students. Easy science requirement.
nice enough person. kinda annoying in class. take good notes and memorize them for tests. to do well you must put in the effort. it starts out easy but gets hard
great teacher, explains topics and ideas well. very easy to go to her office for extra help before class. take her over the iranian guy u cant understand shoja. (but not her husband for lab)
This may be a "science class for non-science majors" but you will only do well if you have had high school chem. She teaches as if you already knew the material and can't understand how anyone could find it difficult. Unless you took and did well in HS chem avoid this class like the plague!!!
have u ever walked into a class and felt like u could do well only to have the teacher make sure u dont do well at all her class avg is in the 60 range and she praises it, avoid this class at all costs
easy class you just have to study the material and do the labs which are very easy. She is a fair grader. She just gets upset very easily
UGH, horrible core class, probably easier than other physical scienes though. Bray is a very short woman with a strong LI accent, sometimes treats students like we are 10, boring lectures, but labs can be amusing...
goot teacher
Super and patronizing, Dr. Bray knows the material well but falters due to her attitude towards students. Treats students like children, not adults. Openly insulting if someone asks a question she consders stupid. As a result, many students became disenchanted and frustrated. Seems to treat women more favorably than men, and was openly caring during one female student's health problem.
Easy class, but she is a very tough grader on the exams. Material seems easy, yet the class avg is in the 60s. Overall, a great teacher though. Her lectures are always interesting and she makes the material easy to grasp.
Love this professor!! Lectures are great, pay attention! Very helpful outside of class!! Exams aren't bad. Grading is pretty good too
tough grader,, took off so many points for the smallest things,, she seemed like she loved putting people down except for those few students she liked for some reason,,attitude,, i dont recommend her
I don't know why everyone hates on Dr. Bray! She's a great teacher, she explains the material well and tells you EXACTLY what to study for exams. Hard to get perfect grades since chemistry is so exact and tiny details count, though. She's funny and nice and I'm taking her class again =)
she is a good teacher but extremely unhelpful outside of class. I went to her for extra help and she started putting me down and treating me like a 5 year old. I never went back. Tests are hard so make sure you study!!
Wow the person underneath me could not of said it any better. In class she is clear on explaining things but if you go for extra help she puts you down and treats you like a 5 yr old. Also on tests she is harder then Shoja on the grading and takes off points for every little thing
She's crazy. I hate this lady so much. She acts like she's nice in class but if you go to her for help she'll make you seem dumb and from another planet. You better memorize the book word for word for the tests b/c if you dont say something the EXACT way she taught it it's automatically wrong...TAKE DINOSAURS NOT THIS!!!
She explains everything very clearly in lecture. However, she is extremely moody and patronizing as an individual. She will put you down in front of the entire class and make you feel stupid when you go for extra help. She is good at making students want to quit, rather than succeed. Moderately tough grader.
This is the only review i'm writing on this site b/c I want to save you a lot of trouble. The prof is just plain mean and wants you to do an impossible amount to studying to pass her tests. Don't let her bizarre "class average" grading scale fool you. I'm about a B+ average student and I put a LOT of work into this class and ended up with a C-.
Embarasses you in front of the class if u ask a ques, hard exams, B+/A- kids gettin C's in her class. By chem 2 her section goes from like 90 kids to 30! They wonder y by the second semester so many kids drop pre med its from her.
very clear in lecture...sooo nice in office hours...she's very understanding if you're a good student and she see's your concerned about your grades and performance...overall really nice lady and better to take than shoja if you have trouble understanding foreign accents = ]
the worse professor I've ever had at Fordham she made my experience horrible I was so interested before my first day of class I still can't believe someone recommended her to me I guess that person secretly hated me I failed a a test She's really mean and is horrifically mean when you ask a question i wish someone would fire her
I was actually interested in taking this class......that is before the actual class began itself. She's a good lecturer, there is no doubt about that. However, she is a such a brutal, brutal grader that you'd have to memorize the textbook verbatim in order to get an A/A- on the tests. The majority of the class fails her tests anyway
Good teacher, wrote the textbook herself. No notes needed, it's all pretty much in the text. Study hard, test are not unreasonable but are specific, everything is in the small text. Somewhat patronizing but a nice lady if you talk to her one on one.
Good lecturer. She knows what she's talking about. Tests are difficult if you don't understand each thing from the notes (her own textbook). You don't need to know verbatim, just understand everything. If you go to her, she does care and will go over some things, but try to stay on her good side.
TRUST ME TAKE SHOJA I've had both, and although the class is hard any way you look at it, Bray seems to enjoy the fact that kids fail and if you see her for help, makes you feel like an idiot. She also plays favorites, and if she doesnt like you, you might as well not even show up. I still got a B+, but Shoja is by far the better choice if possible
She seems to be unaware that she teaches a non-major chem class. She certainly chooses her favorites and is quite unpleasant to everyone else. I would never recommend this class to someone who isn't very interested in chemistry. Did I mention she is condescending and unpleasant?
She's a really cool teacher. The tests are pretty difficult and require a lot of studying but she's a pretty fair grader and will change the grade if you feel she was unfair. Not that approachable outside of class, but still helps if you have trouble. Definitely take if you love Chem and are pretty independent in terms of learning material.
she totally sucks its a horrible class no one talks and she is extremely intimidating and is realllllllly rude and mean very unapproachable and she teaches like she expects u to have a phd in all this if we did why would be takin an intro level class in this she doesnt even bother to get to know anyone and she grades really harshly beware of her
There's no way I could ever recommend her to another human being. She makes you buy her crappy book that she made herself. It leaves you hopelessly confused and you'll be lucky if you can pull a 60 on her tests even if you study hard. This class will DESTROY your GPA and make your life miserable.
She's nice, doesn't make you buy an expensive textbook but makes her own at kinkos, teaches well and is clear. You think everything's fine until the test. SHE GRADES VERY HARSHLY. I went into tests thinking I knew everything and got an 85, 79 and 87. She gave me a B plus for the semester. I learned a lot though! but if you can, take someone else.
Dr. Bray is a very harsh grader and is incredibly ill-fitted to this course. I realize that she designed the course and text herself, but she has no knowledge of art history whatsoever. She is a very angry person, and doesn't seem to realize that she is teaching a class of non-majors. I wouldn't advise anyone to take this class.
SHE IS THE WORST!I have never had such a bad teacher. Plz dont take her because she is completely inconsiderate ande xtremely unapproachable. She doesnt care about anyone and she has about 3 favorites in the class, the rest are non-exsitant. I had a very srious condition and I tried to hand in a hwk &she said no & she didnt even listenDON'T TAKE HER
The class was hard, she makes the "book", which is nice because it's everything she goes over in class so it's easy to study. Tests were fair, rarely hw, short labs every other week. Don't think she understands we're non-majors though and I think expects a little too much. If you're just trying to fill a requirement, try a different class.
Bray is AWESOME. I don't understand why anyone would say she is bad. She is an excellent lecturer. She can be a little moody at times, but she definitley a great prof. She just doesn't prepare as well for the exams but I prefer her over Shoja.
HORRIBLE PERSON! she is such an a*hole to people. She thinks she is better than everyone. Sadly, she is the chair of the department in Chemistry and you have to deal with her no matter what. It is so unfortunate that Fordham, such a great school, has such a bad professor as the chair of the department. Don't take her, you'll hate it.
Worst professor I have ever had in my life. Has no idea what the hell she is talking about.
She come's off harsh but she's actually really nice. She has a lot of stories and it isn't too difficult to get her sidetracked. Chem of Art is interesting and it's not as hard as regular chemistry. Lab's are fun too. She's a little tough grading-wise but study hard and you'll do fine.
She is horrible, and mean. Don't be fouled by her squiky voice, she is a monster. Be ware of her, especially if you are a minority student.
Very difficult professor- Not helpful during class or during office hours. Always makes you feel like an idiot if you have a question. She is very organized with notes, but she is not nice.
I had Bray for Chem of Art, and my main complaint is that she is very unfair. When I went to her office hours for help understanding the material, I was told that I wasn't studying hard enough. The more I studied, the lower my grades got. This class isn't necessarily hard, but Bray is unapproachable and incomprehensible. I don't recommend the class
Chem. Art- I have mixed feelings about this course. Lectures are short and as engaging as can be expected for a chem. course. Labs are actually fun. However, she is a very precise grader. While she awards partial credit, she is still very pick- I have failed 2 out of 3 tests so far. There are 4 tests, labs, and a final. Ask questions during class.
Chem Art- this class is chemistry for non-science people. Lectures are as interesting as can be expected for this course. Labs are fun. Bray is a very picky + precise grader, so you need to study and know your stuff verbatim. Awards partial credit. Grade is based on 4 tests, labs, hw/participation, and final. Ask questions during class.
Everyday I sat in that class.. all I could think was F M L. This old lady is clueless about Chemistry. Seriously. There is no way I would ever have her again. I can't believe we pay for this at Fordham.
i dont think i cut as much as i should have she is super boring! the labs are pretty fun tho. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY HER SWEET OLD LADY LOOK! i bet if i had studied i wouldnt have failed that one test.
avoid her if you can. she shows little concern when the class average on an exam is almost a D. all too often she just tells students to read the textbook without outlining important aspects
Fantastic Teacher, knows her stuff, but very challenging when it comes to grading. Makes her own textbook for the class, which saves you a ton of money. If you were able to handle high school chemistry, you can do well in this class if you put in an average effort(Class: chemistry of Art)
Not the best. She gives notes and explains notes in class, but mostly relies on you to teach yourself out of the textbook. If you read the textbook and understand it then you'll do fine. Don't rely on her for help. Not the nicest person either.
She is seriously a horrible teacher and person. I have gotten all good grades since her class but the one C- is a considerable downer on my GPA. She is mean, haughty, condescending, and I honestly do not know why she is still teaching let alone allowed to walk around the streets freely.
I have yet to encounter a teacher as insensitive as this one. this class is supposed to be a non-major elective, yet she teaches as if it were a graduate course. i tried to get help from her on numerous occassions, but she acted as if i were stupid b/c im not scientifically-inclined. if you are not a science person, do yourself a favor & dont take!
Diana Bray stinks. She is an arrogant out of touch academic. Watch out she is very involved in university politics and will slander anyone in her way. She actually married her professor as an undergraduate and that's her husband today . Very slimy.
How in the world did this monster get to where she is now? Do not fall for her "nice" appearance, this old lady is evil, GET OUT OF THIS CLASS do not suffer in that class like I did, I am begging you SAVE YOUR SELF! she will go as far as making up a new chemistry law in order to prove you wrong and her right, she has no knowledge of the subject.
Awful person in general. Yells at you if you ask questions. Enjoys being mean to students in huge lecture halls.
For non-majors, she is nice. I studied hard for 3 days before the test- guess what! i did well. I am usually awful at science but if you read the book it's crystal clear. Just read, pay attention, and go to class. You'll do fine.
I understand why people have a strong animosity towards Dr. Bray -- she's very type-A personality, strict and standoffish, she embarrasses students during class and doesn't fool around. BUT she knows her stuff, is nice if you show that you are genuinely sincere, and will work with you during office hours. She's not as terrible as people think.
Granted I took her Chem of Art class, not Gen Chem but I don't think she's nearly as bad as everyone is saying. Textbook is straightforward and she is smart. Her grading is a bit specific but she gives you points where she can and curves at the end. Easy tests, no papers, but you learn. I'd take a class of her's again.
You'll see varied reviews for Bray. The way it works is that all the Chem kids like to buzz around her and because of this they all like her. If you're not a Chem major be warned: the material is difficult and Bray is an extremely hard grader. If you're not inclined towards Chemistry expect this class to be very tough. Better core alternatives
Most people will say that Diana is a terrible, mean person. This isn't true, she has a bit of a blunt personality and hates stupid questions. She's the clearest general chemistry teacher available. If you show an interest and pay attention in class she'll like you. Many will struggle in this class, but it is no harder than any other Chem class.
Would anyone seirously think it's easy to get an easy A in general chemistry? NO. If you do the work you're assigned and study five days ahead of tests, you will be fine. Take interest and see at office hours. She does have somwhat of a standoffish personality, but it is possible to get an A if you do the work and show effort studying.
she is not bad AT ALL. she is really clear and makes chem a lot easier than I thought it would be. Take her. Just do the work everyday.
Bray is a solid professor. Her lectures come straight off the textbook. Very specific professor, and a bit picky on exams. She is an overall fair grader and likes to see students take an interest in the subject. Participate, attend class everyday and study for her tests and you will be fine. I recommend Dr. Bray for any students willing to do work.
I love Dr. Bray. One of my favorite professors at Fordham. Very honest and straightforward but only when necessary. Cares about her students and is very nice when you get to know her. Definitely worth taking
I had a very negative experience with Dr. Bray. I went to see her for help. At first, she was very receptive, but she was often very condescending and rude. She was an alright professor, but she was so polarized with her students. I felt like she was only helpful to students who already understood the material.
She is a VERY blunt professor. Only good thing I could say about her is that she saves students a lot of money by making her own text book for 10 dollars. Please avoid her class, she can joke around in class and make the subject seem fun, but when it comes to tests, she can be VERY critical and condescending.
She enjoys it when her students fail. Also, I don't think I've ever met a woman with less social skills than Dr. Bray. Ask her a question about chem, and you won't get an answer. You'll get a rude remark and a condescending laugh, even if it's a question most people in her class would've asked.
.how she has ticked off quite a few students over the years (she's not the nicest person on earth). But she is a REALLY GOOD teacher, she does not teach lecture anymore so you don't need to worry about her really tough grading (unless you want to skip class though). I don't know how she compares with other chem rec profs, but she is a safe bet.
In my personal opinion, Dr. Bray is a pretty good teacher. Whenever I didn't understand something in Chem I, I went to her and she taught it to me. She does have her moments where she'll completely confuse you because the way you understand it isn't the way she does. Overall, for Chem rec, definitely take her. She does clear things up.
