Awesome lectures, labs are simple, reading is logical.
Great teacher... very helpful!!!
Awesome prof. - she got me interested in geography. She's tough, but worth it.
Shes awesome. Gives a lot of homework but if you do it, you'll be fine
Ton of work but clearly defined. Tough grader
She was an excellent Professor, I learned a lot.
Clear, organized, hits main points, no rambling, excellent teacher. You will learn a lot.
Excellent instructor! Take her if you get the chance!
Diane Casey is an awesome instuctor! Her classes are a lot of work but you'll learn a lot.
Great teacher, kills too many tree's with homework. Could do without some days. But otherwise really nice lady to know.
She's really into the subject. If you're not, you might feel a bit lost. She's always willing to help though. I don't think I appreciated her as much at the time as I do now. Lots of work to do in this class.

Great Prof. Loves Geography so she gets you excited about it as well. Just keep up with the papers, otherwise it gets a bit overwhelming. Shares great stories about her trips.
I never thought geography could be so fun and interesting. I look forward to the course every day.
Great Teacher. Very entergetic. Can get most students into the fun of Geography. 101 is lots of fun. 105 is more for the serious Geographer who wants to know lots. Definentally recommend GEO101 over any other lab course.
She is amazing! While not an easy class she is excited about what she teaches. I will be taking her again.
She is not helpful and does not know how to teach what she knows about subject material. Not an easy class, homework is ridiculous and she does not have people skills at all!!
anyone who says something bad about her was just a bad student. She is an amazing teacher and I learned SO MUCH. If you listen and do all the work, you will do just fine. Take her.
Ms. Casey is a good teacher, don't get me wrong, but she IS NOT HELPFUL. She doesn't understand life, and won't put up with anyone who isn't a perfect student. Don't take her class if you have any responsibilities other than school, she won't understand if you have to miss class. No exceptions for a
She is an awesome teacher. She makes the subject really interesting. After taking her class I found a new found interest in geography.
Lots of homework that is busy work. Has a great understanding of the subject, unfortunately tends to be over demanding and inflexible when it concerns grading. This makes it very hard to do well in this class no matter how hard you work or do in the tests.
arrogant, knows the material but not very helpful. If you disagree look out!
Very hard class. She does not understand that no one takes this class because they want to, but that MCC requires a 4hr lab course to get a degree. Tons of homework that I will never anywhere in life. Take another prof or different course to get your lab credits.
unless this is the only class you are taking, you do not have to work, no outside family life and no other responbilities WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't take the class from her. She doesn't care if you are in the hospital, if you miss a test, you are screwed. She also does not explain things very well :(
Ms. Casey is a wonderful instructor. I love that she's enthusiastic and that she doens't take any of the highschool crap that a lot of the kids like to pull. This is college, and they need to get over needing their teachers to spoon-feed them everything. As a non-traditional adult student, I really, really appreciate that she's fair, sticks to her syllabus, yet allows you to sit in on another section or another class if needed if you were ill or had an emergency come up. Take the time to study!
The class was not that difficult, but her personality was impossible. I expect to be treated as an adult, not a 5 year old. She speaks to everyone in a very condescending tone. I don't care if she used to teach kindergarten, I'm a big girl now who deserves to be treated as an adult.
I completely disagree with the previous comment. I was in the hospital for a week during Spring term and missed a test. Mrs. Casey really worked with me to be able to get caught up. I ended up with a B in the class. She is very helpful and extremely nice. Just do the work and pay attention...you will do fine!
She is a great person. Really into what she does. I hate the class but she makes it better but there is tons of homework.
She makes very inapropriate comments about certain areas. She needs to watch her mouth because she is very offensive!
This class rocks. Thoroughly enjoyed the class, worked very hard, studied, & pulled a C! Nonetheless, Ms. Casey's teaching methods held my attention & I particuarly enjoyed her passion for physical geography. Tests are difficult, however, homework is not but labor intensive. Definately increased my knowledge about the world around us. Brillant!
She knows her stuff. You will learn something. Lots of homework, but it's more time consuming than hard. She loves herself, and loves excercising power and control over students. You may feel like you're back in high school. I strongly reccommend against this teacher, soley based on her terribly annoying personality.
Mrs. Casey is a great teacher. The class is difficult and time demanding. Welcome to real life. If you are a good student and try hard you will have no problem getting a good grade. If you can't handel her class you will will never make it at a college like GVSU.
WOW, this lady is extremely rude. Don't take Weather at MCC to save money if you have to take it with Diana Casey. It's NOT worth it. She is not very nice. She is very negative and doesn't watch what she says to her students. It's okay to be arrogant; but her tackiness is extremely unclassy. If you haven't had math or physics DON'T take this class
Great techer very into what she does. She keeps thing interesting, but is very demanding. Lots of homework, hard to handle if you are taking other classes. Learn alot but spend alot of time with study/homework
Not a great calss. To much work for a science course. Mrs. Casey did answer to all questions but she was't fair to grade one of my homeworks. I don't recommend the class.
She knows what she is talking about but if you don't understand something you can forget about her helping you. But attendance is madatory for the lad you can not make them up. And if you miss a day you miss handing in your homework and that is 20% off your grade, and your homework for the next class so that is 20% off as well.
This class was a huge chunk of time. I took it as an online class and I dont recomend it. Mrs. Casey was alright, though she is very demmanding. Your focus has to be entirely based on this class. It wasnt half bad though, I had zero experience in the study of weather, and just about zero intrest. And still have about that much.
I went off to a University, and I feel that Diana Casey is the only professor there that prepared me well. The people that complain about Diana Casey are lazy and dont want to do the work. She is a great teacher just do your work and pay attention you will come out with an A or B.
I have taken all of MCC's geography courses - 5, to date. These included: GEOG 101A Physical Geography, GEOG 102C Cultural Geography, GEOG 105 World Regional Geography, GEOG 215 Introduction to Weather and Climate and the newly created Geospatial Technology Certificate classes...GEOG 297MD Fundamentals of Map Design & this semester GEOG 297G GIS1.
Diana is probably the worst professor I have encountered at MCC. She wants you to think she is a Dr. but unfortunately she never made it that far. She cares little about her students and does not respect them. The work is not that hard but there is a lot of it. Take her only if you can put up with her putting you down and demeaning you.
She is a great teacher. She will help you with what you need. She is there for you and understands that we are students but at the same time going to school is our job and we should come to class prepared. If you aren't prepared to work then don't take the class, do the work and study and you should be fine. Class is mandatory so show up to class.
Ms. Casey knows her stuff, and makes you have to know it too. There is a lot of homework, but if you do it, it will pay off. I had to miss 2 weeks of class for a job change and she helped me and was very understanding! I had to complete all the homework before I left and if you just take the time to talk to her, she is very helpful.
What a waste of 16 weeks, she could have made the exams more moderately simple. It sucks to think your passing with the homework and the labs, but then to get a "E" grade because of three VERY hard exams.
I think she takes joy in giving students "E" grades as a final grade.
She is the most annoying instructor I've ever met. She never gets straight to the point, and she is too intense. If she were more laid back, like the male instructors, perhaps more studnets would like her. She expects courtesy all the time. She will smile and be nice to your face, but she's a complete backstabber. Perhaps she should teach at a diff
If you are only taking any of her classes because you think Geography will be easy, you will be wrong, but you will likely enjoy the subject and walk out of the class much wiser about our planet and its needs than before you started. Diana Casey is tough but fair, and the hands-on style of teaching makes the class more interesting. I recommend her.
Horrible teacher, holds students to guidelines she chooses not to follow. Gives 10 to 14 page exams. Homework not returned in time for exam prep. lots of busy work...very disappointing class and instructor
It looks like Casey is spamming here, I don't agree that she is a horrible person. But, I do view her methods with suspion. She said after the third exam, that she would sign drop slips after that week, then said "You get what you get." As if she wanted you to fail. She should make the course friendly to diff. learning styles.
If you take this lady, make sure you read the book and study hard for all four exams. But she leads you beleive that the homework and the labs will pass you, but they don't. Also she doesn't follow the syb. she gave points to kids who where there for all classes, and if you missed one, you where screwed.
Well, she knows her stuff. But the second you walk into her classroom, what you think means nothing to her. She belittles her students and plays favorites. Once, there was a cameraman in the Lab filming, and she pointed me out and said "Make sure you get the kid in the hat. He's the worst student - never turns in his homework." I had missed 3 days.
do not take this class, you will fail unless it is your only class, i got to school three hours early just to do her homework and still cant get it done. good person bad teacher
one of my favorite teacher!! very detail and very helpful!!! love to attend her class!!
very detail and very helpful teacher!! she is one of my favorite teacher in MCC!!!
Straight to the point with high expectations, if you aren't interested in actually learning something then MsCasey's classes are not for you
This teacher was awful! She played favorties and if you weren't a favorite, you were screwed. She was a very unfair grader. I got 20% off of my homework because SHE had decided to start class 3 minutes early, and I was "late" (but I walked in a minute before we were SUPPOSED to start). I will NEVER EVER take another class with her. AWFUL!
I felt Ms. Casey's teaching was rather inappropriate at times, as she often played favorites, and frequently bad talked other students during our class. She seems more involved with making her credentials known rather than teaching the class, often spouting about writing this book, or attending this important meeting.
If you don't have an intrest in Geopgraphy don't take this class. She is tough but if you keep up with READING THE BOOK you will do fine. Complete all the assignments they help alot. One of my favorites at MCC. I worked hard in this class and at the final it paid off BIG TIME!
Ms. Casey is the type of teacher that takes an interest in her students, she pushes them to better themselves, and she does not let students merely skate through her class. I actually had to work hard to keep my grade up. Great teacher, but if you're lazy and unwilling to put the effort into your education, I would not suggest taking her class.
She's a very direct, thorough, no nonsence type of instructor that has a passion for anything geography. Make sure not to miss a single day and to ready all assigned chapters! She was decently approchable w/ a good sence of humor. In my opinion a very good instructor. She could improve her organization on blackboard though, it was tough to read.
I have not a had a class with Ms. Casey in some time but she was by far one of the best teachers I ever had. Yes she made you work, she made you think...what is so wrong with that. She is very knowledgable and pushes you to step out of your comfort zone as far as what is an acceptable level of education. We need more teachers like her.
Good professor, but tough and strict. If you plan on just drifting through the class, don't take it with her. She is no nonsense and if you don't pay attention, you will not do well in this class.
Learned a lot of helpful and interesting information but you have to work hard in her class, worth the work though
Very good teacher. Does her best to interest everyone. If you need help and approach her she is very willing to help. It is a challenging class, but if you put toward the effort you'll be fine. Attendance is very important!!!!
She's tough but a wonderful teacher.
Tough class but learn a lot and a pretty cool professor if you don't get on her bad side.
Amazing professor who makes you want to succeed in her class and makes learning fun. You need to work hard to keep up but it is totally worth it. Just complete homework and study and you'll be fine.
Very passionate about geography. The class is something you definitely need to work for. There are 4 tests throughout the semester that are over 100 questions long and very specific. If you are not a good test taker this could be difficult for you. Ms. Casey is a genuine person and enjoys getting to know the students but takes no nonsense.
She is an amazing teacher! One of my favorites! She makes learning fun and less tedious. She really care about her students and her passion for geography gets all of us students pumped up to learn. Shes super funny and it's just great! It is a little difficult, a lot of reading and studying, but it's only to help better yourself!
Mrs. Casey is the best teacher you will ever have just for the fact that the lessons here will help your approach for all other classes. She makes you look at the world and life in a way that gets you excited about what I thought would be a long hard class. I am changed forever in my approach on life and how I raise my kids ;-) crazy! 3 her.
I really learned a lot in Mrs. Casey's class. She is tough and expects you to work hard though, so you can't slack off. If you work hard you will learn a lot by the end of the semester. The only thing I did not appreciate is that Mrs. Casey seems to favor some students over others.
she is one of the few profs left that actually makes you work for your grade. Some people think that is a bad thing but you would be foolish to listen. The real world is not, neither is her class. Come to class, pay attention and you will be fine. Shes funny and respectable. Shes tough in a good way. This isnt high school, get ready to learn.
The 1st few days, Mrs. Casey seems very intimidating but, once you get to know her, you will see that she is the most genuine professor at MCC. Truly cares about her students, is passionate about what she teaches, & makes an effort to be upbeat & personal. Will always tell you how geography is relevant to tons of careers. Highly recommended by me.
Too much material to remember. Her lectures aren't sufficient to pass quizzes or tests. She plays favorites. Sometimes if you ask her for help, she just tells you it's in the textbook. Would change professors but she's the only geography teacher at MCC. You aren't allowed any phones or laptops out during class at all.
She is so devoted to her work! She makes you work for your grade but her passion for her job and being an educator makes you understand why she wants you to do your best. She comes off very strict for the first week, but it seems to weed out the people that she knows won't put forth the effort and time. Best Professor at Mcc!
While she does seem to want her students to pass, she's not very helpful for those that need help. She expects you to rely completely on the tutors, which I don't find appropriate. You cannot have technology whatsoever. Do not schedule classes back to back bc you'll never get out on time. It's difficult but not hard to pass bc of the homework.
Loved this class! Yes there was a lot of homework and you cannot have cell phones out at all, but this helps prepare you for the real world. Excellent professor!
Ms. Casey is the best teacher at MCC and I wish that I could have her for every class! she honestly cares about her students so much and if you aren't sure about taking the class, honestly take it. As of 2 weeks ago I was failing the class at midterms but she helped me so much and I now have a B! Definitely my favorite teacher I have ever had.
I showed up 10 minutes late for class once and she refused to give me instructions on the assignment the class was working on, then announced to the class not to help me either. I still got an A in the class though, because my friend saved their binder of homework from a previous semester. (She doesn't change her assignments).
Terrible teacher don't take Geography just wait till she retires
Love Ms. Casey, Strict, but very good!
if you don't try in this class you won't pass .
You have to go to class, as each class has assignments you get and do in class. Extremely hard class as you have a homework assignment every class and the labs in class she won't really help you with. She really cares about her students and wants to inform them, but this class will be a big test of your consistency and IQ. 2 A's were earned.
The class is hard and you have to spend a lot of time on the homework. She doesn't put anything on the test that you can't learn from class or the textbook and there's a group project at the end of every class period so you need to attend every class. She makes you work for it, but Casey is a great professor and I'd take her again in a heartbeat.
Ms. Casey gave one assignment per class period and expected you to work very hard outside of class despite being with her for 5 hours of the week already. She would give you a packet a day along with a blackboard assignment due the next class period. Her tests are relatively simple however, but you will still have t grind to do well.
Ms. Casey is such an amazing professor! It was a really interesting class and very partner-based. Her lectures seem a little long but are full of really cool stories that she experienced herself. She does give quite a bit of homework, but most of the answers can be found in your notes. Labs can be really fun and helpful towards the content.
Ms. Casey is a good professor. She truly cares about her students and is willing to work with them when you need to, just don't try to take advantage of her - she will know. Just read the textbook, do your homework (and start it early), and you will be just fine. Some assignments are lengthy but quite eye-opening to the world around you.
Professor Casey appears dedicated to helping students who have questions/concerns regarding the assignments or other aspects of the course. She expects a considerable amount of effort from her students. Unfortunately, the less favorable aspect of the course was that the professor does not display exam grades in Blackboard.
Horrible.
She makes you work too much for your grade. You spend almost 10 hours outside of class doing homework. Do not procrastinate on any of her assignments. You will regret it. She also likes to assign assignments before you learn the content. She grades you and does not tell you what you are doing wrong and gives no feedback. She's nice, though.
Mrs. Casey is the best professor I have ever had. She made a required lab credit (required for most) into a fun and interactive class. She will challenge you in classwork and breaking out of your comfort zone to make friends in class. She is a loving kind lady who always has ingredients for PB&J for anyone :)
I cried
Dont take the class with her. Very tough and not fair. Worst professor at mcc
She goes above &beyond to connect w/ class, make engaging labs, offer bonus fieldtrips, actually uses the textbooks, gives fast feedback, is clear &fair, good in class discussion, etc. Yes, a lot of work, but it's so beyond worth it! You will genuinely learn so much here. People complaining just can't hang. Easily best professor I have ever had!
Some of these reviews were from my class complaining about failing or dropping but they came to class, didn't follow rules, never did homework, did not participate in labs, were distracting others, tried to copy other peoples work, goofed around, & slept. They got the grade they earned. You will too. She's very fair. Just do your work, it'll be ok!
