I despise English AND writing, but she made the class slightly enjoyable. She focuses a lot on grammar and writing skills, compared to teachers who focus on literary discussion. Her lessons are actually useful and will help you DRASTICALLY on future papers (of any kind). She is NOT easy, but her class will bring your other grades UP.
Keep up with lab hours!
She was hard. If you aren't good in English then pick a different teacher. I didn't like going to her class. I learned a lot and I believe my writing skills got better, but she grades like no other.
Took Dr. Gingo for a Maymester term. This was my first college class ever, and I was tremendously satisfied. Not only did I "earn" a 97, it is to my astonishment that my writing sought tremendous improvement. Take her if you wish to improve and learn. However, let me warn you.. I am an A student who would work 5+ hrs in the library after each class
She is really nice, but a very hard teacher. I regret taking her because she was a difficult teacher and ended with a B in an English class. The lab hours are easy, but be prepared to ask for days off if you work. You need an open schedule if you are taking this class.
Professor Gingo teaches by berating students. She has students complete an assignment and then marks the students off for MLA format when she hasn’t taught MLA format. She has no idea of Bandura’s, Piaget’s, and Vygotsky’s Theories on social cognitive development & needs to learn the application of these theories. tell, show, explain &,repeat
I took all three of her classes ENGL 1301, ENGL 1302, and ENGL 2342, and my English writing and reading have improved dramatically. Just like any class, hard work and effort are mandatory-Don't expect to slack off and earn an A. Dr. Gingo is an outstanding professor, and I have learned a lot.
Attendance is manditory. Not an easy class. Be prepared to obtain lab hours outside of class. 16 lab hours are required to complete the class.
I hate english so much but I looked forward to attending Dr. Gingo's class. She is very helpful and gives lots of opportunities for extra lab hours. She is not easy but if you work hard it will pay off. I earned an A and i hate english. Just make sure to attend class and you can get 2 extra credit points. Took her for summer; takes lots of time out
Thought this class would be an easy A..not so much!! Dr. Gingo is a tough teacher in a GOOD way!! Do the work, go to class and read, she will make it easy. Plus she is close to being a Yankee!! gotta love that. Funny with a bit of twisted humor. I will take her for 1302!!
I did not enjoy this class at all. I typically enjoy English however, Dr. Gingo did not provide this usual satisfaction due to the fact that she was demeaning to her students, unclear about expectations, and was not very helpful in adjusting to students individual needs. I would not recommend her to anyone who is looking to be successful.
I was intimidated by her 14 page syllabus but the workload was manageable. I LOVED the variety of assignments and lectures. I was never bored. The takeaways were IMMEDIATELY applicable in other classes as 1302 improves critical thinking and writing skills. She is fair and helpful. Come prepared every time and participate for success in her class.
I had Dr Gingo during a summer course, it was my first class in 20 years. She is an amazing professor. Not an easy class, as she is tough and there is a lot of work and lab hours. Go to class, participate, work hard, and ask questions! I spent a good 3-4 hours a day after class studying, at the library, or at the writing lab. All worth it!
I had Dr.Gingo for my first maymester class. She is one of the best teachers ive ever had, i learned alot. Although she is extremely intelligent, she is a tough grader and expects alot from her students. She can be pretty condescending to her students, its unprofessional. If youre looking for an "A" id recommend you choose another professor.
Great Professor! Honestly I really loved taking her class. If you are looking for a challenge and wanting to improve yourself take her. IF YOU SLACK OFF AND DON'T COME TO CLASS DON'T TAKE HER.SHES NOT EASY. But as professor's go, shes one of the most amazing I've at my experience here at Collin. But expect to be challenged.
Honestly she's not a good professor. I went up to her for help on my essay and she said that she doesn't have time to help me. Well, than.. I got an F back on my essay and the reason I got that was because she decided not to help me. WORST PROFESSOR AT COLLIN.

No reason you shouldn't pass, you just have to work for an A. Show up with a scantron on day 1 and read the syllabus often.
Dr. Gingo is an excellent professor. If you want to improve your skills in writing I would definitely recommend her, however, I wouldn't consider her an easy A. Show up to class, do the work, and complete the labs and you will pass the class and learn a lot along the way.
If you are looking to improve your writing then you should absolutely take Dr. Gingo. She is not an easy professor and will make you work for an A but I have become a far better student after taking her class than I was before I took her class.
When grading presentations she'll take off points if she isnt paying attention. So make sure you ensure you watch yourself. Also, be ready to stay up late. She expects you to do a lot of work in such a little time.
Very hard class you must stay on top of ALL assignments, do the readings & keep up with labs. She gives some leeway and extra credit opportunities you should really take up because she is an extremely tough grader. I felt she went over things that I already knew, & you must annotate EVERYTHING! I don't feel I came out of her class a better writer.
She does not return your graded papers timely. I went in on my final exam day not having a grade or feedback on my Essay # 2, Research Project or the second half of my labs. These assignments were worth 45% of my overall grade for the class. By the way, I turned everything in on time. Do not be late/absent - 10% of grade.
Dr Gingo is a cool and easy to talk to but as a professor she was never specific on what exactly she wanted or what exactly we were supposed to do. My writing is stronger now. Be prepared to be at every class, with all of the stuff she requires on her syllabus. She is no good with grades and her class is stressful. I would NEVER take her again.
Not an easy A but definitely possibly if you put in the effort. She is very nice and gives many extra credit opportunities. Communications with her is key if you are having trouble in her class.
I love her personality! She's funny and uses good humor! She would ask if people have any questions before she continues lecturing about something else. Very helpful during office hours! I recommed her although grades hard on labs of course!
Students, she is the real COLLEGE professor. She really enforces one's critical thinking. Get ready to type up essays that require 3 academic sources within 3-4 wks. Personality- funny, cool, nice. If you looking for an "easy" professor- this is NOT the one for you. Expect reading books within 1-2(?) wks. Expect group projects. Get ready to read.
Overall was a good professor. Tough grader and gives a lot of work, but as long as you do it you can make an A. She doesn't move on until everyone understands and allows the class to ask as many questions as needed. Few group assignments, a couple quizzes, 2 essays, and a research presentation. Final Exam was hard, study.
All of my classmates thought she was hot.... but i just saw her as a great professor. People complain she's too tough but I mean this is college. You are basically getting the caliber of professor you would be getting at a university with her.
She has a good personality and is a very nice person. But took a long time to give back assignments, including the final. Very hard grader and expects her students best. Only 1 extra credit which is worth 3 points. Assignment instructions were never clear & no one in the class understood what she wanted us todo but would not go back over it for us.
Visit during office hours for feedback because it is better than just getting a grade. Dr. Gingo grades fairly and takes her time with each individual who seeks help. Do not hesitate to look up new and even familiar words. Definitely reread the syllabus and any assigned readings. Aim for extra lab credits and ask about optional extra credit.
Decided to take this professor for my first "hybrid" course at Collin College and I would recommend avoiding her at all costs. She has unrealistic expectations for what the average student can complete in between class periods and doesn't take into consideration at all the working college student. Avoid her if you work or take more than one class.
UPDATE TO 07/20/18 RATING: So after a rough start to the semester, Dr. Gingo and I were able to work through our scheduling issues, as far as due dates go, and the remainder of the summer course went smoothly. She is a nice person, expect a lot of homework and expect to be in class as she grades participation. You will definitely learn from her.
I had Dr. Gingo for both ENGL1301 and 1302. I wish I could have switched professors before I took 1302. She's very strict on attendance, you should make it to every class or your grade will suffer. Barley available outside of class, although she claims she is, she's not. Very hard grader on essays. Labs suck so get them done early with her.
Dont take Dr. Gingo if you want a good grade or expect a caring and Nice English professor. She is rude and doesnt care about her students. She always wants ro get what she wants and maked you work for it. Do not recommend her, my opinion. 2 essays. 2 presentations in front of the class.
LABS ARE THE WORST! had to wait 3 hours for her to check them after class. Attendance is mandatory as she is a very tough grader on essays as it was almost impossible to make an A on anything. She is a nice person but very strict on talking in class and due dates. Not the worst class but would definitely not recommend.
Dr. Gingo knows how to teach a class. She also knows how to assign enough reading for you to go dizzy sometimes. Attendance is HUGE. Surprise readings, reviews, quizzes, basically you never know what will be going on in class. The only thing you do know is the readings, which you need to do because of the surprise quizzes and annotation checks.
Not gonna lie, she came off as SUPER condescending. In a sense of "I don't have to use 2% of my brain to talk with you" kind of way. But, if you're quick witted, she drops that and she's a genuinely great English teacher. Get ready to read and write like crazy. SO many short stories and novel to keep track of. You will be up late writing the essays
Avoid this professor at all costs, she has a lot of expectations about the student that is not attainable. She expects us to have our labs turned in but she is only available for brief periods of time. I made an account just to say that she is not a great professor. I played the game well enough to get my grade and get out. Do not pick this teacher
Dr. Gingo asks so much of her students when she couldn't even get the most important grades in until the last week of the course. I basically had no clue what my grades were until the last week, and she will grade your essays like your supposed to have a master's in English already. Would not recommend her unless you really love Hamlet.
For essays and projects she expected us to look at assignments and review her feedback (that she didn't give). She did not give clear instructions, and there was never a rubric.
Beware of her online class. Doesn't teach, gives you projects worth 15% of your grade & expects you to know how to do it after reading a few pages from the textbook. Instructions unclear, feedback is too late to apply to other projects, condescending email responses, freshman class but grades as if this is a masters program. Very hard to get an A
Was excited to take this professor bc I was told she was easy from those who had her for 1302 but it was 10x harder. expect 8+ hours of work/week. Didnt grade our first paper until 2 months later, the night the 2nd paper was due. She left comments that insisted use of the writing lab but the 2nd paper was due in literally 15 minutes. Dont take!
Professor Gingo isnt necessarily a bad professor just doesnt seem to understand students very well. Her expectations are really high and she comes off very excessive. Shes a tough grader and a little snooty. I dont think shes the right professor for most Collin students. Hers is the only class I made less than an A in a Summer/Maymester.

Well. She is condescending, and yours in a position to teach and to help your students. I get it there are many students, and you cannot get to all of them. But you can still be respectful and humble. The personality was off-putting and made you not want to engage. A lot of things on her syllabus are confusing.
if you're taking dual credit with her, don't. if you have ANYTHING else going on in your life (ie sports, work) you'll fail. she gives massive loads of homework per week. there's no way you can keep up unless all you do is sit at your computer all day. ruined my life and perspective on writing. such a conceiving "it" too.
The professor gives a lot of work but will not tell you how to clearly do it. Then when she grades you will score badly. Did not receive a grade for the first essay until 3 months later. Little instruction and confusing course. If you are a Dual Credit or college student DO NOT take her class. It is very time-consuming and you don't learn a lot.
She lacks to care about her students personal lives and only schedules things around her time and if that doesn't work, she gives you a zero. Not only does she not take a late grade, if you turn it in one minute late, it is a zero no acceptions. She is a horrible teacher, the labs make no sense and neither do her directions for essays and the labs.
This professor is a very hard grader and doesnt seem to care for their students life outside of the class. Theres no late grades accepted no matter what yet she will push back grading our assignments because shes busy. It almost feels like she forgot shes teaching a high school duel credit class and has way too high expectations.
Professor Gingo gives helpful feedback on essays, but takes so long to grade that the feedback cant even be applied to the next essay. A VERY tough grader. Stickler about MLA format to the smallest details. Expects essays in the non MC section of quizzes. Group projects even online . Never earned below an A in English before this.
Dr. Gingo expects time management from students, but she lacks it herself. Her leniency for students is the exact opposite of the leniency she expects us to give her. Multiple pushed back deadlines, and it seemed like we had to be flexible to her schedule. She is very particular about format and a stickler for the guidelines even though no rubric.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! If you can, drop her class. You will work your butt off and still barely pass. Very vague in her feedback, AWFUL time management skills, and you will leave her class having not learned a THING! This class will be the #1 time consumer of your life for 16 weeks, YOU WILL cry, and your effort will not be reflected in your grade.

Dr. Gingo is one of the best professors I have ever had. That being said, do not expect to just blow off this class. It requires lots of effort, but if you are willing to put that in you will do great and learn more than you ever have in an English class. Dr. Gingo is willing to work with you to do the best you can, you just need to put in work.
SHE WAS THE WORST! I had Dr. Gingo for my dual credit English 1301 class. Before my first day, I looked at the other rmp comments and hoped for the best, slightly thinking that she was going to be different than what they said. I should have listened. She was the worst teacher I have EVER had as contradicted herself with everything she said. AVOID!
Dr. Gingo is an awful professor who does not teach. She gives enormous amounts of textbook readings that are not possible to complete. Dr. Gingo expects you to use her critiques in your writing but she takes months to put in grades. On one occasion I wrote a paper and she graded it after the course was over and I had already taken finals. AVOID!!
If you do not want homework every single class do not take this class, this professor talks the entire class and makes her lectures extra boring, if you are not required to take ENGL 1301 conjoined with INRW do not take her course
Dr. Gingo truly taught me so much. Her class requires lots of effort, but you truly learn so much that cannot be forgotten. I think that she is amazing, and her teaching is very clear. She answers each and every question you have for her. I would definitely take her again. I was also in her English 1301 class. DO NOT skip a class unless have to.
Yes English requires writing papers, but Dr. Gingo also gave us other projects so it wasn't all papers. She's really fun and I learned a lot. She helps anytime I ask, is fun to chat with, and answers every question. I have had her last semester and plan to take a literature class with her as well. Highly recommend but do the work.
Dr.Gingo expects us to work hard but she works hard too and always meets me outside of class for office hours. Her help with my papers allowed me to do better in this class than I have in any other english class. I liked that she encouraged me to come see her and ask questions. Very helpful and nice, she helped me to enjoy english.
Dr. Gingo is quite literally the worst professor I have ever had. Be prepared to get penalized for not being in class even when it is considered excused. She gives out quizzes when a lot of people are missing just in spite of them. Be prepared to read EVERY NIGHT, 50 pages at least. Be prepared to be graded hard on every little detail. Awful.
Dr. Gingo stayed after class every single day to answer our questions and she was so patient. I learned a lot and will always appreciate that. She's super nice and clear about what she's asking, but she will also answer all of your questions. She's really smart too!
She explains the stuff but not all the way through. It was a 5 week summer class and was a stressful amount of work. She is reachable and will help you, she also has extra credit opportunities but takes forever to grade the assignments.

Awful experience of a class. Lots of assignments but the prof doesn't actually do much teaching.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! This professor was quite literally the worst I have ever had. She is a super difficult grader, and does not seem to care about students well being. I took this class during high school, and one point I had to do a presentation in the middle of my class because that was the only time she was available. PLEASE AVOID!!!
Unclear grading criteria for essays. I didn't really feel like I learned anything, but I felt that way in every HS English class. At least I didn't have to watch "Remember the Titans" for the third time.

Doesn't bother doing small quality of life things either. She gave us 12 files and wanted it in one file when she could've made one file. Worst prof I've taken at CCC and Uni. 5 week.

is not lenient in any way, she expects the up most of you especially if you don't understand. If you in anyway struggle with things that aren't considered societal “normal” don't expect any sort of understanding or open minded . She'll kick you off a quiz if you get frustrated and need a minute as well as control your monitor without explanation

Awful professor. Doesn't teach well, grades extremely hard and gives very vague feedback. She will give you a zero and tell you that you did something wrong but won't tell you WHAT you did wrong. She expects everything and everyone to be right on time, yet she is late to most of her classes, including the FIRST day of the semester. Do not take her.

Dr. Gingo is one of the worst professors I've came across. For one she doesn't grade on time but can make an excuse on why she can't grade or hasn't put it in, second she doesn't know how to teach which isn't super surprising she goes off topic and doesn't relate to the subject of matter. Third she is very boring in her lectures they aren't active.
Diana is a good professor and gives great lectures. She is a tough grader and has very high standards (which isn't a bad thing) and is rigid on the rules. Not great at explaining further, if she's written it out somewhere, she expects you to understand. She's sweet and personable and wants to help her students succeed.
Professor Gingo is great with helping her students when there are times of stress. She offers extra lab opportunities for us to pass her class, and responds to emails quickly! Although, the only problem I had in her class was waiting for my assignments to be graded on time. It took awhile to receive a grade, but overall, she was very thoughtful.
Horrible when it comes to grading. Takes her sweet time, you will not receive your grade on a major paper until near the end of the semester. If any problem comes up when it comes to grading or something of any other nature she will do her best to make it the most difficult problem that you ill face. Wouldn't recommend her to any student or person.
very vague feedback, and very condescending. All of the bad reviews are accurate to my experience. Diana is always the last to show up to class but it's only okay when she does it. Additionally she treats all of her students as children.
She is one of the strict english professors out there. Advice take english 1301 and 1302 with wilson gary. I heard a lot of good reviews with students from his class!
i will say just don't take her made the class 1000 times bad then it should be. she doesn't respond to email's something and when she does she will tell you to write it again because it wasn't professional doesn't really give great feedback on assignment and will not grade assignments for month+ for 1 assignment she's very disorganized.
Dr. Gingo is always willing to help after class and answer questions. Class isnt easy but you learn a lot and she's really helpful. She offers extra credit and office hours helped me to improve my papers.
She's really nice and helpful. The class requires hard work, but it's college. She was always quick to answer my emails and all of my questions. Go to office hours if you need help it really helped me a lot.
Pay attention to the directions and details. She spells out everything on the rubric so use it to get max points (and she gives extra credit). She really helps if you ask questions or go to office hours. I wish I went to her sooner in the semester.
Great teacher overall and very understanding, I was in a hybrid class so there wasn't a lot of lecture but she's very open to questions and will clarify you just have to keep up with all the work

Dr Gingo was so nice and she helped me so much. I'm not a good writer, but I was able to get an A in her class because of her help and extra credit and labs.
Dr. Gingo's class was interesting every day with lots of good discussions. The group work is all done in class and the poetry project was fun instead of yet another paper. She's really nice and gives good feedback to help with our final papers.

Just don't take any class with her, she makes everything hard, you will have more than 10 homework for one week, no feedback until end of semester, if your class is online doesn't matter be ready to go to college few times. TRUST ME DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
This professor has been my best professor I've taken. She is very nice and helpful and does her best to keep students engaged even though we're online.
This teacher is one of the most terrible teachers I've ever experienced in my college experience. Grades two weeks later, arrives late to class, goes on lots of side tangents, and assigns 40+ pages of reading which is completely unrelated to the course material; treating the course as if freshmen were post-graduates.
Gives tons of assignments but grades nothing. We get graded based on her feedback as well, yet she takes forever to give feedback. For instance we have a feedback review due tomorrow…..she hasnt given feedback yet. Not sure how that works. Extremely unorganized. Worst professor ever. DO NOT TAKE.
Awful, took weeks to grade, put "Chris" instead of "Christopher" on an assignment and got a 0 because "Unfortunately, you cannot earn credit on submissions that do not include your full name on them. "
