Great teacher, but does pop quizes when she thinks that no one is reading. What she goes over in class is going to be on the test. I thought she was cool. I recommend to take her classes.

I was very scared to take this class because I hate to write, but we did not wrtite one paper. She is VERY EASY but is a little...strange... but what english teacher isn't? Anyway I hate English and I got an A. she asks stupid questions like what color was the ribbon on Don's helmet, and you can't find that on spark notes, so read!

I took Dr. Laurent for English 101, 230, and 232. The only reason I did not take her for 102 is because I went to UL for a semester. She is not an easy teacher but SHE IS DOING HER JOB. YOU WILL LEARN. You will earn what you deserve in this class she does not give grades, you earn them. She is the best teacher at Southeastern.
Dr Laurent is a very helpful teacher. She is a little confusing at times about what she wants. I learned a lot. You just have to come to class.

Dr.Laurent is an awesome teacher! He quizzes are every Thursday, so you know to be prepared. She is so nice and helpful. She is one of the best English teachers ever.

very easy teacher, u will pass as long as u do the summaries. She revises the essays then you rewrite them, very easy. also sometimes class is cancelled for no reason. def a plus!! just dont take it at 8 in the mornin....quizes on wednesdays on the same exact stuff. lol

Can be moody but mostly cheerful
I cannot say enough good things about her!! My husband and I both took her class, and she was very helpful. As long as she knows you are trying she will help you out. Dr. Laurent is THE BEST English teacher at SLU!!!! Take her class if possible.
Mayb I took the wrong class with her b/c english 322 was horrible. She was never clear about what she wanted in our writings. Acted as if the assignments were to trick us. Very unclear in what she wanted out of us and our work, whole class stayed confused and unsure.
She's almost always late to class by 8 or 9 minutes. Just late enough to be annoying but not late enough for us to leave when she isn't there. Her instructions and grading are unclear. You have to write a paper almost every week, which isn't that difficult but overall not a very fun class.
DO NOT TAKE HER!! UNLESS YOU WANT TO READDDD EVERYDAY OF YOUR LIFE..GIVES STORIES THAT ARE LIKE 35 PAGES LONGG AND SHE EXPECTS YOU TO READ THEM IN ONE DAY! DOES NOT GO OVER ANYTHING FOR THE TESTT!
She is a nice woman that obviously understands English. The problem is that just because a person understands English doesn’t mean they can teach it, which seems to be the case with her. She will give one explanation that is typically decent, but if you don’t understand her first explanation then later explanations won’t clear things up for you.
Dr. Laurent is very nice teacher. She expects you to arrive prepared for class,any teacher would. I am not an "A" student, but I participate in class and I am always prepared for class which she takes into consideration. The only down side is that you have 2 huge books. If you take notes during lectures, you will do well on tests.
Even though she is a nice person, she makes you write way too many papers, like one every week. She takes off for every little grammer mistake too.
Dr. Laurent was a nice professor. I took her when I was in Math-Science Upward Bound during summer school of my freshman year. We basically did grammar all semester, which made the class really easy. We did do some essays also, had a midterm essay, and final essay. Overall, this was an A+ class. I'd take her again and again and again ;-)
She is one of my favorite professors at SLU! I did NOT want to take speech, but she made the class so enjoyable. She did warmup stuff at the beginning so it made you less nervous to give a speech. She wants everyone to do well and is willing to give extra help. I recommend her to ANYONE who is nervous and doesn't want to take a speech class!!!!!
I wish I never took her. She is one of those teachers that forgets what she tells you, teaches the wrong things, and is completely unfair. I took her for an online class, and when I had questions, I emailed her. Never once did she email me back. It was an online class...of course she has to email back. I was completely disappointed. Though the class was pretty easy. She is never clear as to what she wants, she forgets many major and minor details that are "need to know." I passed with a solid B. I do not recommend her, she is a pain and not worth the aggravation, even if she is fairly easy.
This woman gets under my skin. She doesn't even know what she's talking about, she rambles, comes to class late and gives you useless stupid assignments to do. Her class is fairly easy but she annoys you and just makes this class so uninteresting!

Really enjoy her online class so far. She is extremely helpful and always responds.
Taking online course this summer. She does not grade hard as someone said. Some people just don't put effort into their writings on the discussion boards - which you only have two a week. Then you do your readings and take a quiz which are easy. The midterm was fine-not too easy, not too hard. She is friendly-respons to email w/in 24hrs usually.

First time using Rate My Professor & I already have a problem w/ it. This teacher should have a perfect rating. I have taken her for Eng 101, Comm 211, Technical Writing, and World Literature. She is my favorite teacher! She is very nice and her classes are so enjoyable. If she decides to teach anything else you can bet I will be enrolling.
Don't listen to whatever ass left that comment. Laurent is a great teacher who is very helpful and kind. She is funny and smart and really helps you become a better speaker.

Im usually the last person to say that I genuinely enjoyed a class, but hers was really good. As long as you follow her instructions point by point, you are pretty much gonna get a B. Im taking her again for English in the fall. Dont be afraid to take her, shes extremely nice and easy to get along with. I recommend her 100%
Excellent teacher who is very willing to help. Made speech fun. My biggest problem was that she was disorganized and took forever to post grades; telling us what to study and leaving more feedback would be appreciated, if you're reading this! I would definitely recommend taking her for speech, regardless.

I hate English. I'm the person that JUST got by in high school. I took her class and absolutely LOVED her! She tells you exactly what to study and gives you the same test over and over again just to make sure you know the material. If you study the first time, you'll ace every quiz. I love her & taking her again. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!

This teacher makes you do 6 page outlines of every chapter in the book. The speeches have to be perfect and if not your getting points taken off. I would not reccommend her for speech. I thought this class was supposed to be easy but she makes it extremely hard. This is coming from someone with an A or B in the class.

Dosent make clear what is due! Will not respond to emails over the weekend bc quote: "i dont work on the weekends". Wont work around schedules to meet with students. Grading is based strictly on opinion there is no rubric or outline on what each portfolio should be like. If she doesnt like you from day one for whatever reason you will not get an A!
She was rude, unprepared and unpredictable. She gave limited instruction on amateur assignments and graded them with a fine tooth comb. Overall, this course was a total bust for me. I had a 4.0 and this was the first C I have made in my entire academic career. Unfortunately, it should have been the easiest. I would not recommend her.
She's annoying, but a fairly good teacher. Clear about her expectations. She's big on exercises to minimize nerves before giving speeches, which is VERY helpful. I'd recommend her for speech. Be ready to put up with her attitude, but it's worth it for a fairly easy grade in a hated class.

Dr. Laurent is very laid-back. She explains all of her assignments well. The only problem I had with her was that I didn't feel prepared when I was in English 102 the following semester.

Absolutely my favorite teacher at Southeastern. Have taken her for multiple courses. She makes her expectations clear, is very responsive and open when help is needed and she grades very fairly. Assignment directions are essentially templates for your work.

I'm sorry, I thought this was a college course? She gives vague instructions and won't accept work that isn't exactly how she wants it. She requires you to not only read the text book, but provide a three page, hand-written (in cursive) outline of each chapter and will not accept anything that deviates. Overall, she is unreasonable and rude.
Her instructions are SO vague! I thought following directions meant you're guaranteed a good/decent grade. Not in this class! I did EVERYTHING SHE ASKED and still made low grades. She expects you to go above and beyond on her assignments but if you do, it's never good enough. Just save yourself the frustration.
Nobody should take her class. She is very unclear when it comes to what she wants for her assignments and if the smallest error is made you get a 0. She does not let you make up the grade either she just tells you what you did wrong. Don''t take if you care about your grades.

Mrs. Dianna is obviously putting rating herself on this page, because her teaching is plain awful. She gives you a fat 0 if you have ANY errors on assignments and grades harshly on the major ones. She does not look at your assignments before they're due, she just says read the guidelines, which are UNCLEAR. She makes up reasons to lower grades too.
Dr. L is one of the reasons I enjoyed studying for my comm degree so much. Her syllabus was very clear. She expects students to think on their own; if you need a professor to baby you, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a professor who will genuinely teach, no one can beat her! Growth is worth more in the world than just passing the course
It must be fun for Dr. Laurent to post her own reviews on this website. There is no way she ACTUALLY has above a 3.0. If this site would allow it, I would have given her all zeroes for the above grading scale. But even Rate my professors has a clearer grading scale and more easily understood instructions then Dr. Laurent does. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Thought she was great, until she 1 day marked 1 of my right answers wrong & ignored my emails. She is "Deduct point happy" & suddenly allotted time for quizzes got shorter, exams..... 60 min for 60+ questions! I was a straight A student until her final exam! Unless you can read her mind & are extremely quick w test taking, take someone else!
4 assignment folders. Gives lecture in class and time in class to work on things. This was an easy A for me. Meets one day a week.
Read the assignment. Take a quiz twice if you need a better grade. Post on the forum and then post on somebody else's forum. Easy Peasy. Midterm harder than expected.
I put this class off but it wasn't so bad. Encouraging atmosphere. Midterm online. Four speeches with lots of help for people like me.
Hands down worst teacher I've ever had. I love English and I've always had an A, but her criteria and due dates are NEVER clear and she can be really rude. Half my class didn't turn in an assignment because of due date conflicts and when we tried to argue our point, she put her fingers in her ears and went la la la like a child. Do NOT recommend.

Excellent professor. I took her Interpersonal Communications class at Saint Joseph Seminary College. The class was very helpful for me and taught me how to relate to others and understand them. She brought us some candy or cookies most of the days. I love Dr. Laurent!
Dr. Laurent is a great teacher. She doesn't ask much from assignments and her speech guidelines are really easy. Just go to class, listen, do your work and it's an easy A. She's more than willing to help you but if you slack off then you can kiss that goodbye. Definitely recommend her!
There is a good bit of work to do for this class because discussion posts take the place of discussions in the classroom. Beware, after the midterm reading assignments are MUCH longer. She gave long assignments without warning and then nothing for the last 2 weeks. I enjoyed the readings, but don't take this lightly be prepared to put in time.
If you read you'll do good. Quiz every week you can retake for higher grade. Forum every week. Two multiple choice tests. Extra credit is writing something about reading.
This was a pretty easy class. You only meet once a week. Skills learned in this class definitely go a long way. Grading and due dates were not as clear as they could have been. Sometimes she would say one due date in class and have another posted on moodle.
I know people say she is great but I have not seen it at all. She makes everything uncomfortable in Communication and is so strict on what you can actually write on.

DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THIS CLASS. You have to dress up less in this class than any other comm class. Only 3 speeches at the very end of the semester. She gets you a hundred percent prepared to do a speech. She grades very generously and doesn't take off point for small mistakes. Take her if you can.
Choose a professor that will not humiliate you in front of the whole class! She makes fun of your biggest insecurities. I grew up with a speech impediment; furthermore, when I talk, I do not say words correctly and I stutter. Laurent made me stand in front of the whole class after my speech to "correctly" say different words to her standards.
She makes you take quizzes for each module, adding great points to your overall grade in the class, but doesn't count any quizzes for your final grade, which deducts a huge amount of points and screws you over. Think you had an A? nope, try again.

Dr. Laurent says to ask questions then seems highly upset when you do. She gave a lot of help on the first assignment that was due, then after getting any help was few and far between. She created a group me and she sometimes would not respond to the question so students were confused.

She is very sweet lady. The class was 50% online. You have to read the chapter every week and you are quizzed on the chapter. It is worth 10 points. Also you have to write 3 papers. She is a tough grader and you have to particpate or she will call you out.
Overall, a good teacher to have! A little confusing about some assignments. Ask questions! & make sure to know EXACTLY how to submit an assignment. If you dont do it right, you wont get credit. Attend every class & make sure you have friends to help you out. Lots of stuff to remember to grab for speeches. Do it right the first time & youll pass.

Weekly quizzes and 3 papers, this class was 50% online. We only met once a week for class.
She is very funny and responds to your emails pretty quick. This was a speech class and you had to talk infront of people or she will call you out. You have to dress nice (formal clothes). She would comment about the little things you messed up on your speech.
TOO MUCH READING and she never responds back to any emails or her group me messages. This class was sloppy and unorganized. I would not reconmend
Dr. Laurent is nice but sometimes the class will be a flop. She always wants us to ask questions and if we do not respond she will get upset. She went by the syllabus most of the times but I still get confused. Talking infront of people is scary but she kind of pushes you out of your shell and I did not like that. She will even call you out.
She works with you on your essays. She is usually at school for 7am to assist with anything regarding the module. Pay attention to detail and youll be fine.
I thought she was a good professor. She spent a lot of time getting us comfortable in front of each other. If you show up for class you will get a 100 on whatever you do that day. No make ups. She only had 3 short speeches. However, you need a professional presentation aid, peer reviewed academic article, and speech outline that is how she wants it
I hate talking in front of people and she called me out and i felt so embarrassed because no one likes to talk in front of the class. the speeches were short, but made do so much for a small speech, she was a decent professor, i would not recommend if you have anxiety issues

Took her online over the summer and she is meticulous. You HAVE to follow the sample outlines she gives you word for word. Its the only english class I have ever taken where plagiarism gets you an A. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK HER GRADING. She gets mad at students for not "paying attention to detail" but won't make sure the grade she gave them was right
i was nervous to take her class after i read her reviews but this class was easy to me. maybe its because i love english but i learned a lot and as long as you follow her sample documents you will be fine, she was helpful. her quizzes are easy too.
If you're great at English and writing papers, you'll do just fine. At the end of the course, you'll have a few professional documents on-hand, like a resume, a request for a recommendation, etc. It's a lot of work and she makes you do a lot of revisions and peer reviews. Dr. Laurent can be pretty ambiguous about criteria, though.
Would rather drop out of school than take her again. Ive never had a rude/mean teacher until her. You could say something in the most respectful way and she would still talk down to you like you were a child and make snarky comments. Please retire already.
I took this professor as a last resort. I needed this class, and there were no other choices. I was warned by a friend to NOT take her, but I did it anyways. I have missed so many points on my assignments that I have fully completed, turned in on time and done exactly how she asked for it. Also, when she answers q's, she makes you feel dumb. :)
