I have Leung for chem 104 right now and I see people rag on her on here but shes really not that bad. chem is a tough subject and she has to go through the material in a timely manner while satisfying the needs of thousands of students. shes clear, concise, and to the point. Her tests are challenging but you should expect that from chem.
Can study for weeks and still fail her tests. Avoid taking her class.
You can't understand a word she says and she spends the entire class writing things down and never looks up to answer questions. good luck if you take her.
Anyone out there considering taking this professor, DONT. If you MUST, make really good grades in lab & on online homework because that's what saves your grade. Tests are incredibly difficult, tons of people study SO HARD & still fail. She's super condescending and always seems annoyed when people ask questions. Seriously don't do it to yourself.
Mrs. Leung gives very very hard tests. Spending 20+ hours for one of her tests usually gets you a C. She is not really accessible outside of class, normally answers quick questions. She has good lectures so show up and pay attention, you'll need it. If you're taking her class be prepared to spend majority of your time studying for her tests.
If you can avoid her class do it! I studied everyday for hours, did group study had a tutor at one point even had two for her class and I still ended up not doing good. I learned this class from youtube and my tutors. Tests are nothing like the homework. Do the practice tests, try really hard in labs so that they can boost your overall average.
Leung is a nice lady but not the best CH104 teacher. The whole class is basically just notes. She goes way to fast sometimes. Attendance is not mandatory but if you skip one day you basically miss an entire chapter. She makes it unnecessarily hard. Only 4 tests+the final. 33 questions per test makes it really easy to fail. STUDY & you might get a C
I felt extremely discouraged by the end of the semester when i took her class. I studied all the time for her class, went to office hours, went to the free tutoring that was given, and at one time i had 3 different tutors for her class and i still did poorly. Don't take her class!
Leung makes this class UNNECESSARILY hard. Leung doesn't care if you're failing and barely lets you ask questions while in class. Homework and Lab is literally the epitome of your grade and tests are extremely hard. If you miss 3 questions, you're on the brink of a C. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
This class tanked my GPA. The tests are what kill you. I studied almost every night, went to the free tutoring, paid for two outside tutors, and went to office hours. This didnt help at all. Homework does not correlate with the difficulty of the tests therefore does not prepare you at all for them. No extra credit and no credit for showing up. :(
Leung makes this class way to complicated. She takes simple chem topics and teaches them way more complicated than they actually are. I know so many nursing majors who are failing this class because of this teacher it is ruining our future in this major. It sucks too because she is the only teacher for this class. Plus she gives no extra credit....
Her lectures are so boring and she keeps you for the full allotted time every class and she gets mad when you start to pack up early. She is usually a little rude and unhelpful when people ask questions. Her tests are pretty hard BUT she's very organized; she posts exam outlines and practice exams that will gauge how good you will do on the test.
Diana was a great teacher in my opinion. She taught you everything you need to know for each test and more. She reiterates the importance of studying after each lecture and not waiting till a few days before the test. I thoroughly enjoyed her class and she gave me a great basis of chemistry. She is very intelligent.
I was confident going into this class since I ended chemistry with an A in high school, but Leung teaches easy concepts in such a confusing way. The only reason I have a B is because of my homework and lab grade. I did poorly on every single test even though I studied very hard for all of them, they are a lot harder than the homework.
She lectures from start to the moment the class is over. Her tests are extremely difficult. DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND LABS or you wont pass. If there is another option take it.
I had her for chem 101 and she was easily the worst professor I have had. However in Organic II, she enjoyed the class and teaching it. She was always open to questions and would sometimes crack a joke. The exams are tough but if you don't cram, A's are entirely possible.
Very smart lady, not great at teaching or explaining. I had to go to tutoring after every lecture in order to understand what she was teaching. The way she explains things makes them WAY harder to understand than they should be. She does provide practice tests that nearly identical to the real tests, so I ended up with a good grade.
Dr. Leung is my favorite professor that I've had at UA. She is SUPER intelligent & it shows in her lectures. Chemistry is a hard subject, but a good grade is definitely possible. She'll remember your name if you ask questions, and you can tell she wants her students to do well. I am taking her again next semester. I would recommend her to anyone!!!

I thought the class was pretty easy, it was everything I learned in high school chemistry. If you skip lectures, you won't pass. If you study and do practice problems, you should be fine.
This is a hard class but Dr. Leung is a great prof. All her specific notes are given in lectures only, so even though attendance isn't mandatory, be sure to always go to class. She gives an exam outline and practice exam for every exam so use these for your benefit. Don't let a tough course scare you away from this prof, she is great!
Great teacher!!! She actually teaches the concepts extremely well. She provides an outline and a practice test before each test, and doing the end of chapter questions helps too. Her tests arent very difficult, but you need to study and know the material to get an A. So dont skip every class and expect to get a passing grade because you wont.
Professor Leung is an awesome teacher! You must attend all lectures in order to do well in this class. Her exams are just like the practice exams. Doing the end of chapter problems before tests helps tremendously. Study and do the homework as you go!! Don't procrastinate. Prepare to work for your grade, but it is definitely and achievable A!
Goes really fast in lectures. Not impossible, but you have to work for your grade by reading the book and working to understand the concepts.
Chem 104 is hard and she makes it even harder... Her lectures are too fast and didn't really answer any questions. If you ever needed to contact her she would respond in a rude manner. She gives practice tests, but her real tests are far more complicated.
I'm currently in Leung's Organic Chem II and I thoroughly enjoy her class. She repeats herself often in an effort to drive home key concepts. After the first test, I didn't do as well as I wanted and she met with me and covered my strengths and weaknesses with me and helped generate a plan on how to tackle the rest of the course. Highly recommended
Dr. Leung is a really great teacher!! I had her for CH104 &105 and she was amazing! The classes are hard but she really gives you everything you need to pass! Go to her office hours she is really nice and helpful. Do the practice tests and study a lot and you will be fine.
I had her for organic chem and chem 104 and the way she lays out the material is super helpful. She goes through specific steps you need to help you understand it better. If you go to class and actually listen and study you will be fine. Her office hours are extremely helpful so go to that!!! I was worried about chem but her teaching really helped.
I had Dr. Leung for Organic Chemistry and despite the hardness of the content, she explains everything in lectures very clearly!! She is also very nice & accessible during office hours which helps a ton! This is definitely the hardest class I have taken but if you read the textbook and do the practice problems you should be okay
Dr. Leung is an amazing professor & deserves a higher rating. She explains concepts thoroughly & can be reached outside of class. Your grade comes from four tests (the lowest drops), a final, some homework, and lab. If you're willing to study notes & practice book problems, you'll do well. If not, then don't blame Dr. Leung for a bad grade.
You pretty much only get graded on the tests. You can know the material like the back of your hand but you probably won't make above a C on any tests. Avoid taking her for this class if you can.
Her tests are exactly like her practice problems and problems that she does in class, so as long as you do those you'll be fine. She repeats herself a lot which can be kind of confusing but overall a great professor. If you are confused on anything just go to her office hours and she will answer any questions you have.
By far the BEST professor for ch 104 and ch 105. Both of these courses are pretty challenging, but her lectures cover all you need to know. Everything on her tests comes from her lectures. She includes practice tests and exam outlines that are EXTREMELY helpful. If u study hard & in advance, u will do well. She is so sweet and sets u up for success
Diane gets a bad name sometimes but it has nothing to do with her and all about organic chem being terrible. She teaches well and gives you everything you need to succeed.
OChem is obviously one of the hardest classes you'll ever take in your life but if you've gotta do it, take Leung. If you had her for 104 it'll be easier, but still tough. She does her best to make things easier, but teaches some things out of order or doesn't fully explain steps. Use the textbook and really commit and you'll at least pass
Professor Leung breezes through lectures and can be difficult to understand. Exams are only 33 questions, but super tough. Lab and homeworks are relatively easy though.
You have to teach yourself in this class. Leung will give you the material but won't bother to go into detail and actually teach you. Go to the free tutoring, office hours... I paid for a tutor four times a week and ended up with a C in the class. You have to go to class and study everyday to pass this class. Practice tests helped, tests are hard.
Dr. Leung is the most committed professor I have ever had. She is extremely accessible outside of class and will spend whatever time necessary to help you. She is great at lecturing and repeats things as often as necessary. I would strongly recommend her for your organic chemistry course.
Dr. Leung teaches a hard course, yet explains things very clearly. Most ratings here seem to be according to the difficulty of the material because she teaches clearly and give detailed notes. If you are taking her course get to know her, go to office hours, ask questions and you'll succeed. Issues will come if you simply don't care.
Dr. Leung is very good professor and very passionate about chem. I had her for 104 and 105 and enjoyed both classes. The course is overall challenging but if you go to class and study you should do fine. Dr. Leung is accessible outside of class and funny when you go to her office hours.
I loved having Dr. Leung! She is very thorough, and she wants to make sure everyone understands the material. She is very willing to help if you come to her with questions! The tests are a little difficult, but it is chemistry. Take advantage of the practice exams and exam study guide - they will help.
Dr. Leung is a very knowledgeable professor! She wants her students to succeed, and she will explain the material in the easiest way possible. Organic chemistry will be tough, but I truly believe she made the material understandable! Do the practice tests!! It's a hard subject; don't expect it to be a breeze. You have to put in the work!
I had Dr. Leung for chem 104 and 105. She gets a bad rep on here but dont expect to breeze through organic chemistry. You have to put in the time and effort and you have to go to class it makes it so much easier. if ur a nursing student id say to do really well in 104 so you can ahve room to mess up in 105 and take leung for both.
She is definitely a tough grader and goes over class time by a couple of minutes. Her class is nothing unreasonable. Organic chemistry will be hard no matter who you take, so I chose a professor who I had before and really liked. Do the work, go to her office hours and class, and you will be fine. Always go to recitation and do the homework.
I can't say enough about Dr. Leung; I had her for both 104 & 105 and she is my favorite professor at UA! Organic Chemistry is a hard subject, but she is more than willing to help you understand the material. I highly considered adding a Chemistry minor just so I could take her again! Dr. Leung is the best, and I would recommend her to anyone!!
Given it is chem and chem really isn't fun, she didn't make it any better. She was at times rude. Often when a student asked a question, she made them feel stupid for asking/ not knowing. She doesn't teach, she simply draws stuff straight out of the textbook. She'll give you a ton of info and facts and you just hope something sticks with you.
This class is the hardest I've ever taken but Leung is a really good teacher. She gives you a practice exam and exam outline that is very similar to the exams and her lectures are informative. I hated her class but I enjoyed her teaching style and would take her again.
If you can take anyone other than Leung, literally ANYONE, take them instead. She is rude and condescending. Least favorite teacher I have had at the University. You don't even have time to process what she is saying while she is saying it (very bad actually teaching the material). Would not recommend
Dr. Leung is one of the best professors I've had. She really does care about your grades and is always ready to help you if you have questions. She is super knowledgeable in what she teaches and it shows in her lectures. The class itself is difficult, but Dr. Leung tries her best to make it easy. Just put in the work and pay attention in class.
Dr. Leung is hands down the best teacher I have ever had. She is extremely prepared for her lectures, pulls them all from memory and never skips a beat. Her tests are difficult and require lots of studying, but there is never anything on the tests that she does not go over in class. If you put in the effort and study study study you will do well.
Very hard class. With tutors and extra help still struggled a lot
Organic chem is an extremely difficult subject, but I thought Leung was clear with grading material and lecture material. You must take notes in order to pass and study at least a week before each test.
Leung is by far one of the most organized, helpful professors I've had in college. O Chem is a difficult subject, but her teaching made it clear and easy to understand. If you are confused about something, GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS! She is so so helpful and seems like she really cares about her students understanding the material! She's great!!
Dr. Leung is a very organized and helpful professor. This is a tough class, but she makes her lectures easy to understand and breaks down the material for you. She also posts practice tests with the same format as her real exams that are super helpful! Shes great!
nursing majors---whatever you do try and avoid her
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR ORGANIC CHEM 2!!!!! Seriously, she is hands down the best! I had to retake this course because I did not pass the first time because of another awful professor who teaches at UA, but this woman saved my life! She gives a lot of BP. Her hw is similar to her tests and she is quick to help and respond to emails. THE BEST!!!
Dr. Leung is by far the best professor for organic chemistry. Her tests are not too difficult, but you have to know the material to do well. If you put in the work, you will do well unlike with other organic chemistry professors. However, don't expect any curve. One of my favorites at UA!
I'm torn on how to rate Dr. Leung. The class size is huge (200+ students) so not a lot of time for extras/questions. However, there is no teaching going on. It is purely spitting up information on a white board that can be found in the textbook. Basically, just read the textbook, study it and you'll learn more than you would in class.
Her notes are exceptional, except that she doesn't post them; they're all handwritten and not on Blackboard. The homework system is kind of funky, but you get used to it. Tests are not hard, but they are graded super specifically and you'll get points off for the smallest of things. Overall wants you to do well though.
Hardest class I have ever taken. Her test are nothing like the notes. I like the way she writes the notes on the board, yet they are not posted on Blackboard.
Dr. Leung actually cares about students' grades. That being said, the class was 300+ students, and she can't tend to every student's needs. Her tests are multiple choice with 33 Q, but you have to study. She gives an exam outline. I recommend using the dynamic modules on Pearson. Very organized, but notes are handwritten and not posted.
Professor Leung is by far the best chemistry professor. It is not an easy class, but if you go to class and actually do what she recommends before the tests you will do well (practice exam, exam outlines, homework, extra textbook questions, etc.). She is very quick to help you if you need it, you just need to reach out.
I would not recommend her to no one. She does explain the material good, BUT the test are wayyyyy harder than you would expect. Its like she try to make the class harder than what it actually is.
Organic Chemistry is a hard class no matter who you take! She wants you to succeed, if you put in the work. She gives tons of practice problems with answers worked out as well. My best advice is to do all of the available practice questions and you should do well. She is very quick to respond to emails if you have questions. Would highly recommend!
Professor Leung expects doctorate level work for her "Elementary" Organic Chemistry class. Tests were far harder than advertised. I spent 20+ hours on each test, and 3 hours of tutoring each week, and still ended up with a D average. She doesn't prepare the class for the material on the tests. Expect lots of trick questions. Avoid her at all costs!
Dr. Leung is a very well organized teacher and explains things very well. It is a tough class and pretty large (200+) but she does a great job making it bearable. If you do the homework, go to lab and study the practice exams you will be fine.
Dr. Leung made my chem experience go smoother than I expected. I struggled with chem in high school but she has very clear lecture and notes and never puts anything on the tests that wasn't mentioned in the lecture. You do have to study but you will get an A if you work hard and go to class.
This was the worst class I've ever taken. Not only is the subject matter hard, but Dr. Leung is unapproachable and very rude to students when they ask questions and don't understand. None of the notes are ever posted online so if you miss class and don't know anyone in class, you have no way to get the notes. Avoid her at all costs
Shes nice but takes chemistry seriously. I failed but she gives great notes!
Dr. Leung is a great professor who makes sure to explain things very well which is helpful because it's chemistry. I love her and am taking her again.
I struggled with chem in high school but thankfully this class was my high school chem class all over again so I remembered everything I learned then from her lectures. Everything on the exam was covered in lecture, so I never used the book.
I got a C in high school chem but I understood Leung. She gives practice exams, practice problems, and exam outlines. I did all of that and went to a few office hours and I did well. Just pay attention to lecture and do the work.
Leung is a great teacher. It's obvious she knows the material very well and explains each topic throughly and provides examples. Before tests she gives out reviews and practice tests and is very easy to talk to and reach if you are confused on material. I'm taking her again for CH 105 because at least she's better than the other chemistry teacher.
Take Leung for Organic!! She is the most specific when it comes to expectations for what is going to be on the test and what to focus on. The class is hard, but Leung makes it so much better. Class and recitation is long but she gives you so many examples of problems that its worth it. She is very helpful in office hours too!
Dr. Leung is great at explaining things, although she can come off a little condescending at first. Office hours are very helpful and she definitely is the most straightforward teacher for organic in terms of what to expect on the tests. You have to put in the work because it is organic but overall she's a fair teacher. Super picky on tests tho!
Do not take if you want a good grade.
Took her for chem 104 and currently in her 105 class . lecture heavy and straight forward . personally i love her but shes not everyones cup of tea . Gives plenty of resources to help you succeed
By far the hardest teacher I have even taken. The majority of the class had to drop. She barely finishes lecturing before the exams and there are things on the exam that she doesnt cover. Tests are impossible. I will make it through but I would have had a higher grade with any other teacher. AVOID.
Not just no but heck no. Tests are horrible and most ended up having to drop and retake at community college. She wasnt bad for CH104 but CH105 her tests are nothing like what she teachers. If at all possible avoid her.
This is a hard course in general. I personally do not have strong math skills and it shows. Her exams are quite difficult. There is homework but it is due before the exams.
I took Dr. Leung for both CH 104 and 105. Her classes are very challenging, but they are do able if you study a week + before the tests. She is a great teacher and explains the material very well during lecture. She also gives practice tests you can do which help a lot. Overall, chemistry is hard but I would recommend taking Dr Leung for it.
Dr. Leung is a great professor. She comes off kind of scary but she really is a sweet lady when you get to know her. He class isn't easy but as long as you study, you will be fine. She gives you plenty of resources to help you for the exams so as long as you put in the work, you will get the grade you want. Overall, I recommend her for CH105.
She is a great professor for the difficulty of the content. She makes things easy to understand but her tests are very hard, she is a picky grader, and she does not curve or give extra credit. She is kind and easy to access outside of class. Go to recitation, it will help a lot and follow her advice on studying for tests (mechanism sheets, etc.)
Let me start off by saying Diana is one of the worst teachers I have EVER had in my life! I have never failed a class before until I got in hers. I took this same exact course in high school and passed with an A. She trys to really trick her students into thinking they know the material but does a complete 360 on every test!
I've taken Prof. Leung for CH104 and 105. I think most of the people complaining about her teaching were expecting to get handed a grade, but it's a weed out class. It's supposed to be hard. Do the work, do more than what's expected of you, and you'll be fine. Her lectures are relatively easy to follow.
Dr. Leung is an amazing professor for the difficulty of the content she is teaching. The students leaving her a bad report are the ones that failed the class, as the two chem classes she teaches are weed out classes- it isn't supposed to be easy! The class is very difficult but she truly does provide a lot of resources and her lectures are great.
Easily one of my favorite professors I have taken. She knows what she is talking about and knows to to teach it. She truly cares for her students, you just have to put in the work to succeed. It is not an easy class, but she makes it so much better. Go to office hours, they help so much. Don't let the other comments scare you, she is great!!!
Diana Leung is the worst professor I've had at UA. She doesn't care about her students and will try to find ways to make the class miserable. I paid for tutors twice a week, studied everyday and this was the first class I failed. I spoke to her earlier in the year to talk about the class, but blew me off almost entirely. Avoid her at all costs.
This class is hard and yes it is a weeding out class but it was made way tougher than it should be. She never finished lectures so the day before a test rushed through them. Her exams do not always correlate to what she taught which made it hard to prepare. I would avoid her if there is another option. She is overall nice, just a bad teacher.
The good - quick to grade & homework is worth 100 points for the year, equivalent to a test grade. That helps some. That's about it for the positives. I feel like she probably self rates herself on here because all the 4 and 5 ratings are nothing like her class and someone (probably her) "likes" all the good ratings. Tests are very hard. Avoid.
Avoid taking her classes if you can. I have had her for two different classes now and had bad experiences both times. She is very intelligent but does not seem to care about her students. Tests are also much harder than necessary.
Already a difficult class, and she doesn't make it any easier. Super nice to talk to in office hours but probably won't help your grade unless you do regular tutoring. She is the harshest grader of OChem professors which is frustrating when peers in other classes get way better grades with less effort. Try to take someone else.
Leung is a good teacher and knows what she is talking about. She does not give any extra credit besides a slight curve that is stated on the syllabus. The final is very hard but not ACS.
Leung is by far the best professor I have ever had. Her lectures are clear, organized, and what the tests are on. If you go to class, respect the level of difficulty of Organic Chemistry 2, and ask her questions when you are confused (in office hours) then you will succeed. She does not put up with laziness, disrespect, or quite frankly stupidity.
Leung is a very good teacher. She knows what shes talking about. Honestly she even has a sense of humor. She was very good at teaching and I really learned a lot from the class. However, her tests are VERY difficult. The questions are extremely specific and if you dont know the material forwards and backward you will not do well.
I had Dr. Leung for both CH104 and CH105. I heard she was super hard so I was scared to take her class, but I ended up loving both classes. I passed with an A+ in CH104 and an A- in CH105. If you go to class every day, do the practice tests, review guides, and all of the homework you will definitely pass the class.
She's an amazing professor, she really gets to know her students and will like you if you reach out to her more than once. Her tests are hard, however this class is hard. If i could retake her class, i would. Homework is usual for chem. just have to study a lot.
She's actually really nice if you go to her office hours. Just study.
Seriously do not take her class!! She tries to trick you on tests and they are nothing like the homework or review tests she gives. Even if you study a bunch it doesnt help. She wants her students to do poorly.
I really like Dr. Leung as a person, she's funny and clearly very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, organic chemistry is really hard and her class does not make it any easier. I dedicated a lot of time to the course, but her tests are extremely thorough and all open-ended so I never managed to earn higher than a D- on any exam.
She is a great chemistry teacher, but can be very difficult if you don't study or show up to class. She has a good sense of humor at times. She is very helpful if you ever need help on anything. She is very well educated and knows what she is talking about. Class consisted of 5 tests and the usual homework. I would take her class again.
Good prof. It's chem so obviously you have to put in work. She is straightforward and will help you if you help yourself. Attendance not mandatory but very helpful. Textbook is only used for extra help. Tests are MC. Homework on every chapter but not bad and can go to tutoring to do it. Do her practice exams, it helps. She gives exam outlines
best chem professor by far. always available, kind, and concise.
good teacher, the material is difficult but she tries to explain it as best as possible. available outside of class and there are multiple ways to get tutoring. she gives exam study guides that are similar to the tests. better than Leu in my opinion. attendance isnt mandatory, but necessary in order to do good. online homework helps your grade too
Let me first say that Dr. Leung is a great professor. She knows exactly what she is doing, but she does make this class a little harder than it is. Her tests are hard and very specific, so STUDY if you want to do good. If you are not serious about your schoolwork, this is not the right class or major for you. Also, use her office hours!
Do not take this woman for Organic Chemistry, unless you want the challenge of your life. She does not curve the grades; has not for years. She also grades on a 10-point scale instead of a 14-point scale. Her lectures are good and material is clear, but there is so much that, with her standards, it's near impossible to pass.
Great teacher!! Explained everything in a clear and understandable way. She gives plenty of practice problems, and she makes it very clear what she expects. If you are struggling, her office hours are very beneficial.
Dr. Leung is a wonderful professor. Her lectures are clear and concise. If you don't show up, you WILL miss out on important info. Attendance is not required, but it IS necessary. What helped me most on tests was making study sheets for each exam, rewriting notes and doing practice problems. If you put in the effort, (A LOT) you will succeed.
Dr. Leung was very helpful in making the hard material as easy to learn as possible. She writes all of the notes on the board, she also does the practice problems in class as well, so the recitation period is never used. The exams are the same format as the practice exams, and she also drops the lowest exam grade. She is also entertaining!
Dr Leung is the best chemistry professor. She is very through in her explainations and constantly works out problems for you to get a better understanding during class. I've taken AP Chem before and it's basically the same material, but I actually truly fully understood the concepts with her teaching. Would highly recommend!
Some people don't love her, but after taking her for 2 semesters for CH 231 and 232 I can say she is one of my favorite professors at UA. You have to attend lecture to understand what's going on, but she makes things easy to understand. It's very clear what she's looking for on her tests, and is very helpful with answering ??. She learns names too!
She writes all of her lectures on the board and talks through them. You HAVE to go to academic hours, stay after class, and tutoring in order to get a decent grade. And your text book will be your best friend, along with Chegg
I had her for CH 104 and 105 and found 105 a lot harder. Overall she is a good teacher but the material is pretty difficult in 105 which made it harder for me. Her tests are very hard, like I would be able to do all the homework (which there is a lot of) from memory but still woulnt always make an A on the tests. It takes a lot of time out of class
232 is hard, no matter who your professor is. Still, I am so thankful to have taken Leung. Her tests, though not easy, felt fair. I never was robbed of partial credit, either. Shes a very nice and respectful professor who cares for her students. I do feel that her online (corona) tests were harder, but hopefully you wont have to worry about that.
Dr. Leung is one of the best. Her test are sort of hard but if you study the notes, do the blackboard problems, and the textbook problems then you will be good. If you can get your hands on an old test then you will be set. Many people do not do well in this class because they do not devote time to study the material. Highly recommend taking her.
Chemistry is hard but Dr. Leung knows what she is talking about. She helps you relate what you learn to the real life and gives amazing advice when it comes to study skills and success in the course. She is great with answering any and all questions. She REALLY understands the material and teaches in very logical ways!!!! Take Dr. Leung.
Chem is a hard class in general but Leung is really good at explaining the material. I had her for 104/105 and did well in both. I never used the book and just made sure I went to EVERY class and took good notes to study from. Don't skip class and study the lecture notes and you'll get a good grade. Simple as that.
Dr. Leung is a very organized, prepared, and methodical professor. She writes out everything on the board, so its easy to follow her lectures if youre paying attention. What I mostly did for this class was rewrote all of the notes after class and took the practice exams as studying (and of course did the hw). MAKE STUDY SHEETS
Leung made this class almost impossible. I took notes at every lecture while also taking notes and doing practice problems from the books. I was able to complete the homework and lab work all from what I learned and was able to get A's but the tests are unnecessarily hard. Avoid having her as a professor if possible.
Dr. Leung is a great professor to have as your first organic teacher if you are willing to put in the work. She is very specific with what she wants, but she makes these expectations clear from the first day of class. She is also very caring for her students, and she honestly wants to see you do well. Do as many practice problems as you can!
Dr. Leung's was the hardest professor I had at UA. I've never struggled with chemistry, but she made the subject very difficult. After the first couple exams, I emailed her to ask for help and she told me to "read the textbook." Not helpful at all. I did every extra practice problem and still managed to fail her tests.
absolutely amazing chem prof!!! one of my favorites thus far at UA. She is very clear and to the point with her lectures and makes understanding the material very easy. Always accessible and responds to emails, and always looking to help!
Dr. Leung makes this class as hard as possible. She goes over loads of material during lecture and is not specific about what is important for her tests. She frequently would tell me she doesn't have time to answer questions during lecture, even if it was just for clarification or about the example she was going over. Homework is lengthy and hard.
Okay to all the people on here complaining, its an ochemistry class. obviously it is going to be a hard course, i had her for 231 & 232. But if you actually go to lecture and recitation, take good notes & pay attention you will do fine. She is clear on what will be on the exam and explains concepts well. Would recommend taking her.
Professor Leung was very nice and helpful, but the exams were made much harder than they should have been. I would feel confident during lecture, then go to take the exam and know nothing. Pay attention to the wording of her exam questions, because they are completely different from what you study on your own. I struggled even with tutoring.
Teaching, meh. Her notes are very all over the place. Often she doesn't tell you were you're going until halfway through the lesson. Confusing at best. As a human being, middling. She continually discourages struggling students with, "I don't know if this is for you." She has also told those with family issues to "not be late for test."!!
Honestly, she's the worst professor I've had at UA so far. The tests are horrible and basically impossible unless you only study orgo all day every day. Please just save yourself now and do not take her. You will be miserable and your gpa will suffer.
Diana is a very good teacher, she explains material well, but often goes too fast in lecture to keep up. The tests are way harder than they need to be and she tries to trick you. If you can take another teacher I would. Get ready to dedicate every minute of your time to this class.
The worst professor I have had at UA. Was rude and condescending to students; unclear on expectations; tests were extremely difficult regardless of the amount of studying done. I would avoid taking her and save yourself a lot of stress.
This was by far the most difficult chemistry professor I have had dealt with at UA. Due to COVID, her exams were definitely more difficult and stressful due to her strict policies on proctoring them. She was not helpful when students presented questions and was ofter condescending. Save your time and gpa. This is the only 'W' I have taken.
This was the hardest class ever. The tests were brutal.
im only saying i would take her again because i have to. i am an a+ student and i made a c on the final. its an extremely time-consuming class and you rarely see your hard work pay off. maybe things are different in a non-remote setting, but i guess ill never know. i have heard shes better at explaining concepts than liu though.
I enjoyed the way her class was structured. It was easy to follow along and usually I did not need her to explain it any other way than how she did. However, if you had any questions she was very sassy which made students afraid to ask questions. Be prepared to work extremely hard and thoroughly understand each aspect of the material.
so i failed this class, tests were brutal, and the final was unnecessarily difficult, and idk if it would have been different had it not been in a remote setting, but this class was terrible & ill never know. i do not recommend no extra credit, no scaling of grades, & about 10 hours of hw between each exam on top of lectures and other classes.
Four tests and one final exam but she drops the lowest exam. Couple hours of homework between each exam. As long as you don't miss lectures and prepare for the tests a couple days in advance you will easily pass. The practice exams she gives you are exactly like the tests and even have some of the same questions. Would highly recommend for chem.
This course contains difficult material, but Dr Leung has a great teaching style and if you put in work for the class you will succeed. There is 4 exams plus a final for this class, with one dropped exam grade. You also have homework for each exam and a lab grade that goes into this course. I recommend Dr Leung for this class.
You really have to work hard in this class. She is an amazing professor, and she does a great job of explaining the topics discussed in class. As long as you complete the homework, do the practice problems, and attend class you will do fine in this course.
Dr. Leung is a very nice person and her lectures made sense. However, her exams were VERY difficult. The amount of material presented in this class is ridiculous! You have to study this class ALL DAY EVERYDAY to maybe make a B. She really does build off of orgo 1, so if you were lost then, you're in for a ride. Class was taken during pandemic.
This class was absolutely horrible. It didnt matter how much you studied you are destined to do bad. I did all the homework, read the book, went to as many tutor appointments I could, and still made a C in the class. Attendance matters for points. Take every point you can bc it matters. Honestly would not recommend her.
Dr. Leung is really sweet, and she takes the time to make sure you understand. This class requires effort but as long as you actually do the homework and pay attention you'll be fine. She also drops up to 3 of your absences so idk why people are saying it's so hard to get a good attendance grade
WORST class/prof ever. Get the solutions manual or the HW will kill u. Her tests are synthesis heavy, but she only teaches mechanisms (ignore them, at least online, idk abt in person). Very rude; if you have questions, email, don't ask in class. She said she wouldn't curve but she did at the end. Her lectures were solid, she's smart, just hates us
Dr. Leung isn't the worst professor but some of her wording is hard to understand during lecture. In order to do well on the exams you have to study all of the practice problems given.
I struggled so much in this class and so did all my friends that also took it. My advice: try to do really well on the homework and labs, that will save your grade if you get bad test grades. The tests were pretty hard and I did not do great on any of them:/
Wow this class was hard. Don't let other reviews mislead you Dr. Leung is so sweet and an excellent professor, she just has to move through horribly difficult material at a quick pace. Her office hours are helpful, and she becomes a lot less intimidating than she is in lecture. If she sees you working hard, she'll show interest in your success.
A lot of people don't like her, but I personally thought she did a great job in making her lectures make sense. You follow along with her notes and if you do the homework and practice test, you'll do fine. Pretty nice lady
Definitely a hard class with a lot of material presented in a short span of time. She drops the lowest test grade and the homework/lab really does bring your grade up by a letter or two. She's actually pretty funny and very smart. The tests are really hard but if you do the extra practice problems and test and use her study guide you will be fine.
I took Dr. Leung for CH 104 and 105 and I absolutely loved her class. She is an awesome teacher that knows how to explain complex topics in a way for people with no chem background can understand. She's very encouraging, and never puts anything she hasn't gone over on tests. You definitely have to work hard in this class, but it's not impossible.
I was very scared to take organic chem this semester, but Dr. Leung made it easy. Her lectures were very easy to follow along and she had many great resources to help prepare for exams. Make study guides for each exam and add to them as you learn new content, do the suggested textbook problems, the homework, and copy down her notes in lecture.
Class was extremely difficult but doable with hard work and studying. She gave lots of help with weekly recitations, study guides, and practice exams. You have to put in lots of time outside of class but she did a very good job of simplifying complex material as best as she could. Took her both semesters & would take again.
Run. I'm not kidding you. She is the only orgo professor at UA that doesn't use an adjusted grading scale, so my C- would be a C+ in any other class. Also, she didn't curve AT ALL. We were a virtual covid class and she assumed we were all cheating and sent us nasty emails about "academic dishonesty." Explained stuff terribly. RUN
I do not like Leung's teaching style. She does not give any opportunities to catch up if you happen to fall behind, and personally I did not feel like she cared for me as a student. Coming from taking Liu for CH104, it was a very big change in teaching style which threw me off from day 1. I would not recommend taking Leung for this course.
Dr. Leung is an awesome teacher. She gives you all the information you need to know for the test, and the homework is also helpful. As long as you are a good student, there is no reason you wouldn't pass this class. But you WILL have to put in the work.
This class is hard, but Dr. Leung is a great professor. Her lectures are specific and her recitations are very helpful. The tests are difficult, but she teaches difficult material, so I would still say they are very fair. She provides a lot of review material, so make sure you do that if you want to be successful.
I found Dr. Leung to be a great professor given this is a tough class to begin with. Her lectures were easily to understand, and she explains the concepts very well. Her tests were pretty straightforward, and it didn't seem like she was trying to hide the ball at all. If I had to take this class again I would take it with her.
Dr. Leung explains organic concepts pretty well, but her tests are impossible. She words questions in a way that seems purposefully tricky. In a class that is already hard enough, she doesn't help you out. No drop test or homework, & grades are not scaled. While I feel like I learned more than from other professors, the tests just killed me.
absolutely horrible horrible professor. by far the worst I've ever had. she is literally so mean and not the slightest bit understanding. always accused mass amounts of our class with academic misconduct for little tiny things like leaving the computer to use the bathroom. I can not put into words how absurdly terrible Diana Leung is.
Orgo is known to be hard, but she made it extra difficult for no reason. I also received a very nasty email from her about "cheating" because I didn't answer ONE poll question but all others. The HW and textbook practice questions aren't even close to her "tricky" tests. If you HAVE to take her, get as many points as you can with HW and the lab.
She is such a great professor! She definitely had a bad rep. but I absolutely loved her! She provides exact steps for hard topics and provides so many study resources! If you study and pay attention in class, you will get a good grade!
Class moves at a fast pace.
this class was the hardest thing ever. while i dont totally blame her because ch104 is alot harder than high school chem in most places. and high school didnt prepare well enough. i went to tutor sessions and studied and still failed so i had to drop to not have that effect my gpa.
She teaches at a very fast pace and only goes over things once. This was the hardest course I've taken so far and she did not help. Your entire grade is based on 4 tests and the lab so you cant mess up.
Leung moves at a ridiculously fast pace that is impossible to follow, even for someone who has previous knowledge of chem. I've never struggled in chem but wow, did this class make me feel stupid. I have failed every exam despite days of studying and ultimately had to drop the class (4 exams+lab makeup entire grade). AVOID Diana Leung at ALL COSTS.
Mediocre. Lectures are extremely boring. Tests are pretty easy if you study. Probably the best option for Chem 101 though.
very tough she does not hold recitations and her office hours are hit or miss. Be prepared to do a lot of work outside of class. Lots of test material you have to learn on your own as its not covered in lecture. Very nice lady but hard class
Some people might give negative feedback about Dr. Leung, but most of those people don't put in much effort to do well in the class. If you need help she's always reachable outside of class. Her recitations are very good reviews. She doesn't like to waste class time. The homework isn't hard most of the time, it just takes a long period of time.
She made the class way way harder than it needed to be, especially for an entry level science class. Her lectures are all written so if you miss class you better have a friend to send notes. Tests are way harder than they needed to be, even when I would spend hours studying. You really have to work for an A or have an amazing chem foundation.
Some of these reviews are shocking, honestly. I really enjoyed Dr. Leung's course, I felt her lectures covered everything you need to know and were easy to follow. She moves at a good pace and is great about answering any questions. She gives plenty of practice problems and is overall a super sweet prof. Take CH 101 with her if you can!!
She's a fantastic teacher and explains things really well. This class is just plain difficult. She is willing to help outside of class if you ask for it. There is no extra credit but with the lab and hw and 4 exams, it's plenty of opportunities to do well. The final is cumulative but that's for all teachers. This is not an easy class whatsoever.
I honestly think Dr. Leung gets worse ratings than she should. This class is by no means easy, but it is a college chemistry course so what do you expect. She is so helpful in her office hours, she showed that she truly cared about my success. Loved her so much I'm taking her for CH105 next semester!
Shes really nice and always ready to help.
Dr. Leung is honestly an amazing professor for such a difficult course. Her lecture is well-thought-out and she makes sure to give plenty of examples. She also offers office hours which is a great way to get clarification on things. This class may be a lot of memorizing, but she teaches everything needed. While this class is hard, she is great.
The worst teacher I have ever had. She call people stupid and was very rude. Tutoring was joke all she did was judge you. Very hard class, choose anyone but her . We went from a class of 300 to 50 during midterms and all 50 of us failed the final . My only F out of all As
Leung is a good professor if you're ready to work! Rewrite lectures, do practice problems beyond homework, and going to office hours were things I do to get an A. I never missed a class. It's tough but very possible to get a high A even if you're not good at science.
Other chemistry classes had all open book and open note tests, however, Leung required in-person tests. The class started very big with more and more people dropping the class after every test because of failing grades. Lectures are very important to attend because all of the notes are written in class, but class is not mandatory. Take another prof
I did better than I thought I would in Dr. Leung's class. I think it just depends on your learning style, and mine worked for her class. There is a lot of reteaching yourself but overall she gives us everything we need to know. She is a sweet lady and although her class was difficult, I feel like I actually learned the material well.
Class was hard but manageable. Grade was based mostly on 3 tests and exam but also included homework and the lab. All notes were written out during class so if you missed there was no way to get the notes. Tests were hard but doing the homework really helped. Homework was very time consuming but there was usually only one assignment per chapter.
Dr. Leung will not be for everyone. She will lecture through the entire class and has high expectations. I found her to be a bit intimidating, but only because of how intelligent she obviously is. If you need help, she will help you, but you have to reach out. Go to class, take notes, take her study advice, and you will absolutlely pass.
Very confused by all of the negative reviews. I was VERY intimidated by her at the beginning of the semester after reading all of these comments but ended with an A+. The course isn't one you can blow off, but she gives specific tips on how to study and succeed in her class, and if you take her advice you will get an A. Just go to class.
Amazing professor. You will have to put in the work and study, but she lays out all the material in a very understandable way and is very accessible. Go to office hours if you need help!
Dr. Leung is a tough but knowledgable professor. She is very accessible and helpful outside of class. She does not post lecture videos or slides, so make sure to attend class or find a friend in the class. She explains difficult topics in a way that makes them make sense. Highly recommend!
AWFUL, avoid at all cost. She teaches extremely fast and her tests are very hard. The homework is nothing like the tests. I tried to take this teacher and failed, I took the same class with another teacher and passed with flying colors. We had a class with 150 people in it and only 15 were left by the end. Do not take her if you want a good GPA.
She is really hard, but if you put in the work and show her that you care about your grade you will have a much better experience. I thought CH105 was easier than CH104, so if you had her for 104 you should do decently in 105. Tests are tough, make sure you follow her study templates they really do help!
Very difficult class. Most bad ratings for Leung are blaming the difficulty on her. If you go to her office hours and READ THE TEXTBOOK, you will be fine. She knows what she is talking about, and this sometimes makes class more difficult because she moves rather fast.
everyone says Diana sucks but she just teaches really fast. she's accessible outside of lecture and is willing to help her students succeed. if you honestly don't take this class with a grain of salt and actually put a decent amount of studying into it you should be fine(homework+reading textbook+doing practice tests+office hours if needed).
I personally loved Dr. Leung. She was a very good teacher and although she taught fast she was always willing to help and wants her students to succeed. She has office hours you can go to and get extra help. The courses are hard but having her help made it better. As long as you put the work in you will pass the class.
If you can take Dr. Leung for either chemistry 104 or 105, take her!! The course is very straight forward, and expectations are clear. Attendance is not mandatory, but she does not post notes or lecture recordings online. She does not make chemistry any more complicated than it needs to be!
Very lecture heavy. Go to class and you should be fine but I would definitely recommend taking this class somewhere else. Test are hard. Had to drop her chem 104 and take at another school and passed with an 88. Goes through problems on the board very fast and doesn't really give time for you to learn the material.
Probably will not recommend if you can if you can don't. Does not accommodate with anything grading wise. Does not care if you pass or fail. Not assessable outside of class.
Dr. Leung has amazing lectures and great study tips that she offers her students. While the course material can be difficult at times, she does a great job at explaining it. She is extremely accessible through office hours and has a great personality. I took her for 104 and 105 and enjoyed both classes!!
DO NOT take Leung if you can avoid it especially if you are a freshman. I took her for my first chemistry course to go towards my nursing degree, and I would cry after lecture every day and while I was doing my homework. Very hard to keep up during lectures.
she slays, you just need to utilize her help outside of class and youll be fine
I really love Dr.Leung. She is very smart and knows what she's talking about. If you go to her office hours she's actually really personable and willing to help. Organic chem is tough, but she gives you all the material you need to succeed. She does a great job giving examples, practice problems, and even practice exams. Definitely recommend her!
This was my first time taking a chemistry class and I expected it to be hard, but this teacher stands at the front of the class and just talks. Its very confusing at some points and she goes through the notes very fast and it's hard to keep up especially for an organized note taker. I am usually an all A student and I had to drop her class.
Really middle of the road professor, nice person though,
Dr. Leung is very well educated and very straight forward. She runs a tight ship and is very clear on her expectations. Going to office hours with her is one of the best things you can do to succeed in her class. If you go to the lectures and office hours, you'll do great. Everyone I know who didn't struggled.
I was worried about her but the truth is if youre willing to pay attention, go to every class, and take the time to learn chemistry, then you will do ok. Its hard but effort reward, and dont forget theres free tutoring available!!
Though this class might seem intimidating, Dr. Leung truly is amazing. She writes out her notes in class so that you can copy how she studies. She is very detailed in her teaching, I really never left class confused. The few times I did I would go to her office hours that were EXTREMELY helpful. What you put in you get out! Always go to class!
She is a nice person, though her lectures are hard to comprehend since she already expects you to know the material and where she is getting her numbers from in her equations. Her homework is hard and stressful, along with the tests not correlating with the homework at all.
This class was not difficult and neither was Dr. Leung, she is a good professor. Most bad reviews come from people who refuse to actually try and learn the material, but if you go to class, pay attention, and attempt to understand what you're learning, you will be fine. Utilize the textbook and its practice problems, it will help you tremendously.
Easy class, easy professor! Just go to class, pay attention, and actually try and learn the material. Dr. Leung has high expectations but her lectures are very helpful and she uses a lot of examples. If you are still struggling try using the textbook or go to office hours. She will make sure you understand it. I would 10/10 recommend her for CH 104
Very nice when I went to her office hours. Class was by far the most difficult I've ever had. Coming with no background in chemistry made this class hard. Seems like she gives less effort compared to others when it comes to giving practice exams and study materials. Doesn't post her lectures. Midterm took 50% of kids out. Go to class or you'll fail
Very clear about what you need to do to get a good grade. Long homework assignments due before test but they are very helpful. No curves on tests. If you go to lectures and don't miss labs you'll get a good grade.
She does not: explain well, hold recitation periods for questions, review exams, nor answer many questions after class. She talks VERY fast. Lectures are an exact time- DO NOT be late. Labs are taught by TA's who often have no clue what they are doing. She will answer questions during lecture though. Tutoring outside class is moderately helpful.
Dr. Leung was not a bad teacher, her test were just absolutely too difficult for a 100 level class. Despite being all multiple choice, they were just impossible to study for due to the amount of content you are tested on. Do not skip lecture. Lab is horrible, the TAs are clueless and not willing to help you at all. Only take this if you have to.
Leung is a very good professor, she's just hard. Her test are very difficult but her lectures were great and I learned a ton in her class. Just be ready to study.
go to lecture and do the homework and you will be fine. the tests are difficult, but Diana explains things well in lecture.
Dr. Leung was genuinely such a great professor. If you put in the necessary work, you will succeed in her course. She explains concepts great, and her lectures are very straightforward. I felt that her tests were very fair. She gives practice tests and test outlines which were super helpful.
I feel like she's only good at teaching upper-level chemistry courses. She speeds through the material in her lectures and she only grades by a few things. Her exams aren't hard if you study but still, I would not recommend her for a freshman class or people who aren't familiar with chemistry.
She's too strict with her grading criteria. Also she kinda just talks in the lectures and never really slows down to ensure students actually understand the material.
She's just way too stingy with her grading criteria and there are absolutely no other opportunities to get a good grade in her class besides the tests and labs.
Professor Leung knew her stuff, but she would teach material so quickly and erase notes so fast to move on some days. She never slowed down to make sure the class was understanding, as a freshman this class was very difficult. Not easily accessible in my opinion, tried to reach out for help and ended up getting an automated email. do not recommend.
Even though Leung is a great professor who knows her information, her classes are not easy A's. She moves quickly and even though attendance is not mandatory, you will not pass the class if you do not go to class.
Lab course. Passable with regrades. She did not mention that you have to present the original doc for the regrade in the syllabus or in class. Throw nothing away. There is no evidence of a curve. If you don't want to starve with your useless bachelors in chemistry, do better in your earlier classes. CH 338 will kill your chances of grad school.
She moves on very fast and taught us material 2 days before our exam.
Don't get me wrong both 104/105 are very difficult classes but Dr. Leung is the only reason I passed. She explains the concepts in a way that make sense, you can easily get an A in this class if you attend lectures and apply yourself.
Absolutely Terrible!!!! I am an A+ student who excelled in highschool honors chemistry. I have never had a worse professor then Diana. She will be the reason I do not become a nurse.
Dr. Leung is an amazing teacher! Attendance is not taken but it is mandatory to attend class to do well. Majority of your grade will be from homework, lab, and tests. Tests are hard but all the information you need will be given to you during class lectures. Dr. Leung goes through the material very clearly. Do practice tests! So helpful and similar
Genuinely the worst teacher I have ever had in my 19 years of living. Avoid at all costs. She is so hard to understand, goes incredibly fast, and treats this class like it's an upper-level class. I would give zero stars if I could. STAY AWAY!!!!!
I had her for both 104 and 105 and I think she is a respected professor. When you take tests they are pretty heavy and cover multiple chapters but are always multiple choice. She has study hours multiple times a week and wants to help clear up any confusion.Overall she's a great professor, I don't enjoy chem as much as some other courses
She is an incredible professor for such a hard subject. She can teach will and is willing to help. She has SI teachers that help if you need it. Just go to class and study, and you'll be fine.
This is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. She moves through every chapter within two days so if you ever get sick or for some reason cannot attend class, good luck. 9 out of 10 of my friends failed this class and that is time we will NEVER get back. She is aloof to the fact that nursing students have a lot of work. Her tests make no sense
I don't even know how she has three stars. She is the worst teacher I have ever had. It is so hard to understand her+moves through lectures at an unattainable rate. She goes so fast you can't even comprehend the lectures before she is on to the next topic. I studied 12+ hours for every test+still did poorly. . Please avoid.
This class was hell. If you learn from explanation and photo memory, dont take her. She reads her notes and thats it. The class itself is hard. Tests are only 33 questions and the final is 65. Im dropping chem after this semester.
Although i love taking notes hats ALL Diana's lectures were i struggled very much on her test. Go to every tutoring session available thats the only way that would help me do decent on her test. Not helpful when asking for clarification on homework or lecture questions. I recommend sit in the front row by her desk and participate a lot.
Worst professor I have ever had. This class was incredibly hard and your grade is basically based off your tests, which are hard too. Even if you go to her for help, she won't help you and will just say you need to fix your study habits. She just reads notes off a board and you cant read her handwriting whatsoever. Don't take this professor.
The worst.
Awful
Diana Leung is a good professor, but she teaches very fast. Lectures are not mandatory but if you want to pass the class never skip a lecture. There are only 4 tests and the lowest one gets dropped. The final was hard it had questions to easily trick you. I studied so hard and got a tutor and still failed almost every exam. Good luck!
Professor Leung is great!! Her lectures are straight to the point and she gives many examples of practice problems and works through them. Before every test she posts a practice test and those questions are pretty much just like the tests. If you go to class and study a little bit each day you will be fine in this class!
if you go to the lectures, at least you can get the information, but really you have to teach yourself, so if you're not able to do that don't take her. this class took up all my time, & all my other classes were pushed to the back. definitely the hardest class i've taken but hw & lab help boost your grade, & you get to drop a test.
this professor was awful because she does not care about you failing nor does she care about giving students a fair chance at learning. her lectures are very cookie cutter-like so if you don't understand, you're pretty much left to teach yourself. even after hours of studying and getting the homework right, i never made above a D on any exams.
Dr. Leung did a great job teaching. She broke up her lectures piece by piece and always gave practice problems in our notes. I have never skipped chem class because the more you skip the more you fall behind. Take advantage of all of the tutoring and office hours on campus. Chem is a tough subject but if you talk to her she will help you.
If you have to take this as a prereq but never had any chemistry class in HS, good luck. She gives a ton of homework but it doesn't really translate to test questions. Your grade only comes from test, homework and lab. The lectures have a ton of information but you still have to go home and teach yourself almost everything.
Worst teacher I have ever have. See seemed to enjoy the results of the test (90% had like c or lower). Will never take her ever again!!!!!!!!
class pace was too fast; had to teach myself everything. I attended SI sessions (which dont help) and paid for a private tutor to try to help me understand. Approximently 90% struggle, either people dropped, or received a very low grade. Consider another professor or online community college for a better chance at passing chemistry 104.
She and the TA grader expects you to write like a post-doc on your lab reports. They probably skim the reports. It doesn't help that there is no rubric. Expect trial and error. I only know one person who got an A- in her class. I heard when a different professor taught this course, you could write papers at your level and make it out with an A.
Dr. Leung is a LIFESAVER! Her lectures are very easy to follow. Organic chem is an inherently difficult course, but Dr. Leung is your best bet for understanding the content. I am so grateful I have her for 105, and I wish I could go back to take her class for 104. Attendance is not mandatory but is extremely important for success in this course.
Dr. Leung is an AMAZING teacher! She has great teaching strategies, and her lectures are clear and very informative. When preparing for the tests, I cannot stress enough to do the practice tests and look at the exam outline! I highly recommended doing the textbook problems as you do the homework. She always responds to emails if you need help.
I love Professor Leung! This class overall is going to be hard no matter what, it is chemistry. She has amazing lectures and her teaching style is amazing for this class. You have to attend lectures, otherwise you will fail. She is very direct about what is on the test, and gives an outline, practice exam, and tells us what to do for study sheets.
Dr. Leung is a GREAT professor. This class is very difficult, and the material is hard. However, Dr. Leung does an excellent job and is super clear and displays organized notes during lectures, she truly gives all the information needed for success in this class. If you go to lecture, take notes and put effort into studying, you will do well.
Amazing professor. Knows what she is talking about and does her lectures in a way that it's easy to understand and take notes and she also does her lectures at a great pace so you're not rushing to keep up. Although attendance is not mandatory, it's a must to succeed in the class.
Great professor- is super relaxed in class, and takes her time teaching as opposed to some other professors who have to speed through slides. No PowerPoints, just lecturing in class, so you should probably go. She is super clear, and open to any questions you have, so it is pretty straightforward. Hardest part is just finding time to review it all.
I had Dr. Leung for both 104 and 105. Both times there were 4 midterms (one of which gets dropped) and a final. Homework and lab averages are both weighted like an exam. Chemistry is a tough subject, especially in college. But Dr. Leung is a great teacher, and you can succeed if you give the course the effort it requires. I would take her again.
Diana Leung was a super nice and down-to-earth person. However, the class was very difficult. It is chemistry so the subject is just hard in general. She gives practice tests before tests but sometimes her tests are a lot harder. The homework was very time-consuming too and never reflected the tests.
Very lecture heavy and test based.
Dr. Leung is the best! Her class is difficult and challenging but she knows how to teach the material in a way that her students can understand. Her notes are very helpful and easy to follow. DO HER PRACTICE TESTS! They help so much when preparing for tests and reviewing her test outlines. She is always available if you need her. Go to class!!
She was very willing to help and always available for office hours outside of class. I am a student athlete and miss a lot of classes because of traveling which caused tons of extra stress over the semester. No extra learning information offered outside of lecture time or office hours which made learning any missed information almost impossible.
Chem is hard. That being said, Leung is a great professor and knows the material. The class is just hard and a lot.
I think it just depends on how you study, whether you pass or not.Overall, G
She is the best professor I have had so far at Alabama. Her lectures are clear and to the point and she teaches exactly what you need to know for the tests. Gives an exam outline and practice test the Friday before each test which is extremely helpful. If you go to every lecture, do the homework, and do every practice test you will do just fine!
Dr. Leung knows what shes doing and wants the best for her students. Super accommodating if you can't go to office hours. It is a super hard class, but she wants to help you succeed.
Dr. Leung's class is tough, but her clear lectures and practice tests help a lot. I found unstuckstudy ai to be a great study resource alongside the textbook.
This class is very fast pace and very lecture heavy. I studied for days, hired a tutor, went to the SI sessions and did all the homework. I still never passed a test and had to drop. I recommend taking it at a community college to pass. Pretty much everyone dropped there was hardly anyone in class anymore.
Diana's tests are structured so that people will drop the class because they can't take that many nurses.
This was probably the hardest class I have taken here. Other students with different professors did not have much of an issue with this class. The lectures were fast, homework was long and did not correspond to the test. Studying for 15+ hours for each exam made me pass with a B. Tests were HARD. Her one saving grace is the practice exams.
HORRIBLE. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. As a nursing major you need a B or higher to look competitive for the nursing school and I had to drop because I was barely passing tests. She teaches so fast and you can hardly keep up. She's not very friendly and expects you to know everything. Other classes allow a cheat sheet which should be allowed. Take Online
She's kinda boring to listen to but if you actually talk to her she is super nice. You can get 3 bonus points each test if you go to the tutoring which helps anyways. But def go to class because she doesn't post lecture notes/ slides. If you have a basic knowledge of chem from highschool you will be fine. Do the practice tests they help a lot!!
I love Dr. Leung. I think a lot of the bad reviews are just because chemistry is hard. She does a great job explaining and the bonus 3 points for each exam if you go to tutoring is great. The lab is sort of a mess & my lab grade is lower than the class because of the way it's graded. Her exams are very similar to the practice exams she gives out.
Lectures are super easy to follow. There are several extra credit opportunities and she gives practice exams and outlines that are very similar to the tests.
Professor Leung was a great professor. She teaches kind of fast and you need to go to lectures in order to understand the material. You definitely will need to study because chemistry is a hard course, but there are opportunities for extra credit and she provides practice exams before tests that are very similar to the real thing.
Professor Leung is very knowledgeable and knows what she is talking about. She teaches exactly what will be on the tests. Don't be afraid to ask questions because she is so sweet! She offers extra credit for attending SI sessions and doing extra online modules. She puts practice tests online before each test which helps a lot. Love her!
Honesty I really like her and thought she was a great teacher chem is just hard for me especially having to learn with so many people. But if I had to do it again I would def take her.
She's a great professor but she goes too fast to a point where everyone is lost at times . She does give extra credit for SI tutoring which is 3 credits but if you are not on top of your work and exams you will fall behind and it only gets harder each exam and lecture . You need to pass your exams or your grades will be affected.
CH 105 Spring '24. Dr. Leung writes all of the notes/examples on the board during class (no published slides), so try to make a few friends who will share notes if you have to miss a lecture. She is highly knowledgeable on the subject and explains concepts well. Practicing the homework and textbook problems is the best way to study for the tests!
Go to CLASS! Take GOOD NOTES, go to SI sessions, do the extra credit homework. Study, study, study. It is a hard subject but as long as you do what she says, how she says, & when she says you will be fine. It is not a easy class, be willing to put some work in. She is understanding, helpful, and open to communication just be personal & hardworking!
You get one drop grade, prepare to study. She gives practice exams and outlines, there are free tutors who help you. The best way to study is to do extra credit then homework then outline then practice exam. If you have questions she will help you just email or go to office hours. You get what you put in, your grade is up to you.
She is a nice lady, however, her class is really difficult. Personally, I didn't like the way she did notes, there was no way to look at them over again or see them if you missed a class. She is not the greatest at explaining things, she just tells you how to do them which wasn't helpful.
This class is an absolute UA money grab because most every one either drops the class or does very poorly overall failing the class. Students then have to either pay thousands to retake it at a community college or pay UA to retake the HORRIBLE class. I would recommend saving your time and money by NOT taking it at UA and take it somewhere else.
Diana is not a bad professor. The class is just very hard. There are ample opportunities outside of class for you to do well.
Diana is a good professor. I was so scared coming into this class because I didn't have any chemistry knowledge before class and because of what I saw on here, but as long as you put in the effort and GO TO THE SI SESSIONS (must!) you'll be fine. The homework isn't bad and make sure you do the extra credit modules! It's a lot of work but worth it.
Please don't listen to the reviews saying she's a bad prof. She clearly writes and lectures on the things you need to know for tests, and she constantly reminds you of what you need to do to succeed. Extra credit was offered, and it helped me get over a 100 in the class. Just go to class, listen, go to SI, and study. You'll do fine.
Nice teacher and she cares about her students but very fast paced class and the test aren't that similar to the practice tests that she provides. Do the extra credit homework's and do good in lab it'll help your grade a lot.
Go to class!!!! Chemistry is a hard subject within itself and material is not always easy to understand. Dr. Leung is not difficult, chemistry is. She repeated herself for us often and wrote down clear notes. If you can put your phone down for 50 minutes, take notes, and listen then you will be fine. Your effort determines your grade.
Leung is a great option fit CH104! She really does a great job of explaining the material clearly and slowly. The homework is good practice, but I think the key is also doing the problems she suggests that are in the textbook. The practice exam is helpful, but only if you do the other practice! The SI sessions are good and you can get extra credit
Every person I knew in this course, including myself, either had to drop it or completely retake it at a community college for over $1500. I am in nursing school and this is still the worst, hardest class I have taken at UA. Save yourself the stress and take a different prof or just avoid the class at UA altogether.
Tests are nothing like the notes or practice tests given by her. Final is nothing like the previous tests (as she claims it is) so don't know what to tell you to study for that. Please try your best to avoid her if you don't want your GPA tanked (especially nursing majors). Doesn't give formula sheets for tests either but the other teacher does.
She is one of the best professors I have taken this semester. Her lectures are very clear and concise and she provides ample extra credit. Additionally, she has provided practice exams, exam outlines, and helpful homework for the exams. Chem 104 is a hard class but she made it easier for me and others.
Go to class, do the outlines, and take advantage of ec. I think she likes you more if you do well on exams, but that's the same with all profs I guess. Literally if you listen to what she's saying, there is no room for confusion. Regardless of your grade, you have to admit she is good at lecturing. Fair warning: this is the easiest chem can get.
good at teaching
Amazing professor and understands her material is hard. Chemistry is known to be hard but she explains the material so well! I would have taken her for Ch105 but I didn't have the option. I would definitely recommend for chemistry. If you study and pay attention to the lectures you will be just fine. You will get out what you put in to the class!
I took this class as one of my mandatory classes for my major, and she is the worst teacher I have ever had. We got 5 exams and a drop exam, and when I got Mono in the fall, she would not let me retake the exam, even though I had a doctor's note and a fever of 103 F. She did not care. I needed a B, and she wouldn't bump my grade up 0.2%.
Taking notes and showing up to lecture should get you to a B, but doing the homework assignments should at least get you to an A-. From there, I'd reccomend showing up to the SI meetings for extra tutoring if you feel stuck or lost in the course. There are a handful of equations that you'll need to memorize, but the concepts aren't difficult.
Grading criteria is not clear and she is an insanely tough grader. Sentences taken word for word from the lecture will be marked wrong on the W papers. Strong lecturer and very knowledgeable, but extremely tough grader with confusing rubrics. Good luck passing. Normal lab reports are conflicting from the W ones.
This class was EXTREMELY difficult. When I took it almost more than half of the class dropped. Most people dropped and just took chemistry at a different college. The tests require hours and hours of studying. USE THE SI SESSIONS
Tons of homework and NONE of it was relevant to what we were learning. She doesn't actually teach/explain anything she just writes out problems and answers on the board and expects you to understand how it works. js get ready to teach yourself literally everything. If you don't go into this class already knowing a lot of chem you'll struggle.
Dr. Leung is a very smart professor and knows what she is talking about. The class is hard, but that is not her fault. She explained concepts very well. As long as you apply yourself and study the material, you should be okay. She was extremely helpful whenever I had any questions. Sometimes her exams can have trick questions, so just look out.
She is rated as not as great due to the class itself rather than her as a professor. If you have a decent understanding of math and understand how to study she is a great first chemistry professor to take. She goes slow and you can easily access her outside of class for any help. She responds to all emails quickly.
She is an amazing professor. She only tests you on the things she teaches in class. Everyone saying she is an awful professor is probably just dumb. It's easy if you pay attention and study. Make sure you study.
She is a good professor, but the class is difficult. It is not her fault that the content takes more time outside of class to learn and understand. Many students take this freshman year and do not understand that you cannot get a good grade in chemistry if you do not take the time to study.
I truthfully say not to take chem 104 and do it online over the summer. The class is basically based on exam results, and if you are not a test taker or have trouble comprehending 20 sheets of notes for an exam, your best bet is to save your GPA and take it at a community college. Also, there is no extra credit or making up stuff.
Dr Leung is a great professor, a lot of people complain about her but it genuinely isn't her fault that this is a hard course, she only puts on the test the stuff we have gone over in class. Your main part of your grade will come from the tests so listen to her when she says to make study sheets and do the practice exams.
This class is HARD It's really not her fault BUT if you want to get into nursing school don't take it because she isn't the best teacher. Her lectures are a bunch of content that never is taught in a way that's digestible. Your just gonna end up teaching urself the whole semester and going to SI which is a waste of ur time take chem somewhere else!
Just be prepared to use your textbook. Study hard go to the SI meetings and goodluck.
Take this at a community college.
her class is lecture from start to finish, if you don't pay attention for 10 minutes you will be lost. the course itself is hard but its doable. if your a nursing major, you can retake this class over the summer for a better grade. but, know the practice exams front and back because it will help you do better on test. also go to SI, it helps.
She's a good professor; the class is just difficult. Go to the SI meetings (I didn't).
The professor isn't that bad; it's just a hard class. You're able to see her after class, and she gives lots of help, even introducing us to the University's tutoring (SI). I would say get help early before it's too late.
Obviously, chemistry is complex, but she does her best to explain and truly wants you to understand the material.l She gives you tips on how to succeed in her class, so if you fail, it was honestly on you instead of her. The class is challenging, but shes a good professor.
Mrs. Leung is the best professor I've had so far. She makes use of every minute of lecture to teach; so pay attention because every second counts. She's very clear and writes all important information on the board. She breaks info down and simplifies as much as possible and I truly believe this is as easy as Chem will get. Just put in the effort.
To be honest this is just a really hard class. As much as I would love to blame the professor she honestly wasn't the main problem. She does try her hardest to explain everything but there is just so much complex content. I would take this class through a community college online and save your GPA. You need insane self discipline to do well.
