This EMI escapee is smart and HOT to boot - she challenges yet is rewarding
she absolutely crazzzy! made org.chem intresting, if that could be possible
yikes... had for both 121 and 230... wanted to die!
Really nice (and crazy) but tests are freakin' impossible!!
little crazy, but good teacher
very direct and to the point, notes impeccable, but discussion is difficult to f
great teacher but hard tests
OMG, strange and entertaining. Lectures often incomplete, unclear, and unhelpful. Tests are brutal due to poor lecture material.
thorough teacher, and always willing to help. hard tests, but fair. easy lab marks.
A brilliant chemist, with a great sense of humour - but she can't lecture very well at all. Perhaps the curriculum was too comprehensive. Hardest possible tests!
Very well prepared, organized, crazy stories, very intelligent, and DOES care about her students... she is just not willing to put up with those who don't put the time in. Keep up the good work, Di, and challenge your brain to do more!!!

Too many dumb jokes, can't understand a word she says half the time. Her tests are brutal and often makes the material harder than it really is! THink she needs a few more tokes and learns to ease up on the tests!
di you are the wors teacher i have ever had i hate your guts
Very tough, very anal. Expects too much from her students...its not quantity Di its quality. VERY hard tests but she tries hard.

hard class
She is organized and always willing to help her students out. She means well, however, tends to make simple concepts extremely difficult. Also, her tests are much too hard, and as a result discourages bright students with low test marks.

Everyone will love her after get final grades
Had her for Chem121 condensed spring version. very painful to sit through.. but take ALL the midterms, the final is absolutely brutal.
Don't choose her she like to fell lots of students
Didn't study the required materials and failed the first midterm, i studied for the second midterm and got the highest mark of 102.2%!! Because the labs are so easy and she drops any low exam scores i went into the final with almost 100%, got an A!!!
She grades students by a bell curve, so in other words this is good if your smart. Her lectures are fast past and not quite conventional. Read the text book and be prepare for the labs!
Her microphone is full of static you can't understand her half the time. Ifu wear any form of fragrance she avoids you like the polio, and flys theough lecture notes assumingyou know everything.

complains alot a little strange not very helpful.
re:fragrance:she is ALLERGIC.If you saw her collapse due to some idiot wearing perfume anyway, you might realize how serious it is.Teaching is fast-paced, bonus marks everywhere(perfect attendance in labs, doing labs by yourself, lots of part-marks in tests/exams)Extra help in ofc hrs was appreciated!
She passed out 3 times this semester. Half the time you cant even understand what she is saying. We had someone else do our labs for 2 weeks straight well she was on medical leave. So those were all out of order and ahead of the course content. Avoid!!

Worst teacher ever....personally, she should have never come back after she had her near fatal experience. Also, the microphone/Britney Spears experience is ridiculous. One last thing...what's w/the Michael Jackson one hand glove? no scents, allergic to chalk...get a new career.
At first i hated her,but she's pretty funny if you get her sense of humour. Her tests are kind of tough, but if you do all the questions in the course pack you should do good on her tests. She's a fair marker, plus she does the bell curve so you score extra points on your tests. Just dont slack off.
Di is a good teacher who conveys the material in a systematic and understandable way. She enjoys teaching, and she brings her own quirky sense of humour to class. Her health issues haven't negatively impacted the quality of the course.
she's very scattered in her method of insructing and she skips important steps.
She is INSANE! avoid at all costs.

An interesting person. Very hard prof to follow. She should not be teaching intro Chem. Belittles students by pointing out that she could do chem in her sleep and that this class is her "BM"! A quirky sense of humour. Allergies should keep her away from chalk and the classroom!
di is a wonderful person and a great teacher but I can understand why some people find her difficult to follow. I wouldn't reccomend her for a condesend course because she spends a great deal of time talking about her personal life.

Really funny, helpful, one of the best science profs ive ever had, makes chem pretty easy (if you do all your work its easy to get a high grade)
I found this class extremely easy (over 100% on both midterms) but I had taken chem 12 several years before. I wouldn't recommend her for someone just starting off in chem but if you have a good understanding of the subject then she is a good teacher for it. Only thing that bothers me is the lab instructor and how it's broken up with two teachers.
Easiness: Some stuff are easy, some are hard. It's Chemistry at University level, put some time and work into it! Helpfulness: You have a choice of how you want to be marked, make your tests worth 0% and put it all on 50% mid-term and 50% final or just 100% final or the usual way of 20% tests, 40% mid-term and 40% final.
So organized and predone notes make the class very easy in comparison to if she didn't do all that. Trust me I've had chem teacher do nothing before. But watch out she gets this nut to do her Labs. Like KILTS!?!
funniest teacher ever! i have never had a teacher talk about having worms until i met her... really organized and enjoyable. i suggest that if you have the choice get out of her lab with the prof. that wears kilts and hawiian shirts...
Interesting characteristic. Sometimes it is hard to understand what she is saying, but her tests are great: all you have to do is what she askes you to do. She really teaches you stuff, not like other teachers who don't even know what they are talking about.
First couple of test were easy but the final is deadly. Marks fairly, but doesn't seem to be willing to help students out. I would never take her class again.
worst class never take it again.
you never know whats going to come out of her mout. Very funny lady!!!As for tests, if you do the practice tests and go to class you will know what to expect! Had a lot of fun! Lab prof was a jerk and wasn't at all helpful and he lost labs, so never throw out your labs until the end!!!!!
Excellent teacher. She's got a bizarre sense of humour and provides the best quality lecture around. If you want to learn your stuff (and have some good laughs), check her out. If you just need a credit and plan to forget everything after exams, there are easier classes to sit in on.

Very knowledgeable teacher, however she lacks the skills to be a good teacher. She relies heavily on the students use of text books and supplements. She does not and will not take time during class in order to answer a question in depth to ensure one understands what she is talking about. Overall, you MUST study the text and do ALL the homework.
Diana is very dedicated and enthusiastic. She can be hilarious at times. Unfortunately, a lot of people have problems following her lectures. She should try to break everything down into clear, simple steps and make sure the class is following her. Her course notes and practice tests are good study material for the exams.
Avoid her if you can. Everything i learned in this class i taught myself. She's sweet but not a good teacher.

Take Di's class if you plan on doing more Chemistry. She gives you about a course and half's worth of material. Every lecture minute is fully utilized. Tests are fair if you use her course pack (don't buy the textbook!). Make sure you do all the practice tests and you'll do fine.
She's abosulutely hilarious. Her accent makes hera little hard to understand but you get used to it. Very helpful.
This is my second time taking di's class. If you're in 110 or 060 do not buy the text. Useful in 120. If you're the type of student who has to ask question in class take someone else. Di goes very fast and doesn't take time for lots of questions. However in her office is where she'll inspire you and teach you great things.
She has have very weird way of teaching and seems to jump from place to place. She also seems to go through easy stuff like naming ionic compounds which we've known since grade 9 in detail while skimming over the newer stuff. I have also seen her get snappy adn students who ask her questions.
I wasn't crazy about her for 110, but she was a lot better for 120. She was so much better for 120 that I would actually recommend her for the course. In 120 she is mostly explaining concepts and drawings, which she does well with. As always, she is extremely organized and has an excellent course pack.
Hard to follow even with lecture notes, accent will throw you off at first. Diana is a good professor but her lecture notes are sometimes too detailed and a bit scattered making it difficult to follow.
Di lays it all out there. If you can follow her recipe-style coursepack, and do a bit of mixing on your own...voila you've learned chemistry. She makes me laugh too, sometimes awkwardly, but laugh nonetheless. Do her old exams, cram once and awhile, and she'll take care of you. Just don't go into her "doghouse"!
Di is amazing, if you do your coursework the same questions are on the test. Her notes are amazing i still have my notebook for reference for my current chem classes. She is fantastic and funny. Her class is easy if you actually do the work and take proper notes.
Although I didn't learn much from Di herself and found her lectures relatively boring I have to admit that this course was the easiest A+ I have ever gotten simply because her practice exams were the EXACT same as her real ones just with different numbers. I tuned her out in lecture and focused on answering the practice tests...piece of cake!
I took 2 of Di's classes (Chem 120 and Chem 121). She left the classes halfway through the semester for BOTH courses. Very funny, very nice, but VERY unreliable. I ended up dropping her Chem 121 course because an old English professor took over and I didn't like his teaching method. Overall, a decent teacher who isn't very reliable.
Her teaching style is not helpful for students who need to be taught. you would be better off in teaching your self.
If you are looking for extra explanation after classes do not go into Di's class. On several occasions I have gone to see her in order to understand the poorly explained material in class and she has been completely unhelpful and shooed me out of her office. She doesn't explain things well either, one of the worst chem teacher I have ever had
Lecture notes were plentiful, but when it got down to going through her practice questions, it was difficult to find step by step explanations in the notes. She talks non-stop, writes fast, and there not much time to absorb the info and come up with a question during class. She's a quirky and cute woman, but not great at teaching.
I learned more from the textbook than her teaching. Her course pack doesn't have many explanations on the work. She talks non-stop, and is not good at answering questions. But she does give hints on how to complete pre-labs. Overall does not have the best teaching methods.
Di is very nice and she is enthusiastic about chemistry! She is always available to help and she is highly entertaining. However, her lecture notes were disorganized and at times it was very hard to follow what she was writing on the board.
Great teacher. She uses the class time entirely to explain things, her course pack is like ur new bible, and she's always there to help.
Di is crazy! but she is really really nice.. and has well organized notes. Just go to class and try and you'll be fine! She is a nice, funny and caring lady!
Don't take Chemistry with Di. Her notes are unclear and hard to follow. She does not have a step to step process. Not helpful AT ALL. Her practise tests are the only thing that will help you pass the class. Funny women but horrible teacher.
Her practice tests are your only hope
VERY hard tests. VERY hard. Doesn't prepare students well for tests. If you aren't a natural at chemistry, then you will struggle with her teaching style. Notes are scattered and little organization.
I took 120 with Di and thought she was alright. She was my only option for 121. and I regret it so much. She is an AWFUL teacher. Notes unorganized, thoughts scattered, textbook practise questions NOT HELPFUL! One of the worst teachers of my life.
Worst prof I have EVER had. She spends half her lecture time talking about her days back at UBC and smoking on the weekends. If you want a decent mark in class show up to all of her lectures else she will ignore you as she seems to take it personally. Pretty much avoid her at all costs.
I am an A+ student and juuust passed her class with a C+... She's a funny woman but a terrible instructor. Mid-terms were very hard and classes were incomprehensible. Your best bets are her practice tests and to memorize her drawings/tables. The final was slightly more bearable but still confusing.
The worst teacher I have ever had. I plan on avoiding her for 121 at all costs. Her tests were based off the questions in her course pack, so if you want an easy grade just memorize those questions and have no idea what you're doing.
Di is a good person but her lectures were really hard to understand... I thought I was the only one, but soon figured that most of the class felt the same. Your only saving grace from her class is STUDY HER PRACTICE EXAMS!!!
Worst experience. I find her hard to follow, her notes are scattered, no organization, quick lectures, and hard tests. She's very funny, but it didn't help me grasp any of the concepts or learn anything.
Lectures can be very confusing. She seems to have all the lectures memorized and knows exactly what she's doing each day. That being said the pretests are almost identical to the exams with different questions. I am a self learner so it wasn't SO bad for me. If you struggle with chemistry/math you're going to have trouble. Practise the pretests!!!
Lectures are hard to grasp. To go along with that she it is very difficult to understand her accent. Practice tests are very similar to the real tests. She pits you vs your class mates for marks (whatever that means). I will say she is very fair in that if you fail the first 2 mid terms and get a 85 on the final you get 85 in the class. Funny lady
Worst experience ever. She seems to be a very nice person and humorous. But I won't take her course again. Her notes are scattered, lectures are very difficult to understand. And she is so focused on HER own schedule and timing that she usually doesn't check if students understood the subjects.
This is a difficult course involving lots of calculations. Diana gives very clear notes, going as far as to colour-code everything, and her coursepack is extremely useful. Practice tests make very clear what to expect on the tests and final exam. Make sure you attend every class though!
Easily the worst teacher I've ever had. Cracks really crude jokes and makes no sense. Her practice test are identical to her test but nothing for the final.
AVOID IF POSSIBLE IF NOT.... GOOD LUCK.
unclear, funny, but very hard to follow
Ugh. I would leave class more confused than when I came, the only good thing was her course pack. Just memorize the practice tests and you can pass, but forget about understanding any of it.... She seems nice, not that helpful if you go and see her though.
She's one of those profs that is so smart she doesn't know how to simplify things. Her course pack and practice tests are amazing though, she uses all similar questions on tests. But she is so hard to understand and I don't learn anything from her lectures until studying the text after class.
There are several reasons you should sign up for her class: 1.She is very humorous. 2.Everything you'd have to know for the course is in her course pack, which has tons of practice problems with explanations. 3.She makes very clean notes on the board, with colorful pens. 4. She's a fair marker(you write your student# on the test, not your name).
Learned nothing all semester. Little to no theory, just examples.. every single class. Midterms are all about memorizing her pre-tests. I'm worried going into chem 121. Avoid if possible, if not good luck.
Di is one of those profs you either love or hate, there is no in between. That being said I loved her teaching for the most part. Attend her lectures (you will miss out on her awesome jokes if you skip!)and do the homework in her course pack. If you study and put in the time then you will get an A+. I did, but it was hard work and took time.
Di will make you laugh in every single class. She does a lot of examples on board with little explanations, but tries to break them down in simple steps. she uses homework from workbook for exams which is love/hate. memorizing examples doesn't really help you learn.
Do not take a class with Di. She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She can be hilarious but she is so difficult to understand. She often says how difficult she makes her class compared to other teachers. I have never done this badly in class before or since. If you do have her be prepared to completely teach yourself everything in the course.
Hardest class I've done to date. Hard to understand and she expects that you know everything already. Talks towards the board during class, doesn't answer questions. Gives information, but doesn't teach you anything. She is organized, great course pack, but that's about the only thing helpful in her class.
She has a pretty strong Chinese accent, but you get over it so quickly. Her notes are AMAZING! she colour codes them and everything, so awesome.
Very funny lady. She writes and talks incredibly fast and straight to the board, if you get behind in writing there's no hope to catch up. If you don't do the pre readings you'll have no idea wth she is talking about as she rarely actually teaches you something as opposed to just summarizing the readings & assuming you already know everything.
I want to make this very clear, Diana is without a doubt the worst teacher I have ever had; by a long shot. She is impossible to understand, steamrolls you if you was questions, and teaches no theory, yet asks theoretical questions on her tests. I am a smart guy and I have never had a more difficult time in any class ever. Avoid at all costs.
I was only in Diana's class for 6 weeks before I dropped the class. Her teaching method did not work for me. She literally reads right from the course pack she tells you to purchase. Does not give you anytime to ask questions during lecture and puts questions on exams that she never showed you how to do. Would not recommend her class to anyone.
Pretty much the same as the majority opinion on here.. Shes not great at engaging the class and doesn't really clarify anything. If you stick to the course pack you will do fine though. The course pack is the only reason I can understand whats going on in the class, not that I really attended.
The lectures feel like you're being fire-hosed with context-less information and senseless babble. Her strong accent makes her somewhat difficult to understand and she doesn't ever stop to clarify. Furthermore, her course notes for this class are handwritten copies of what she writes on the board so don't expect any help there. Good luck.
I liked this class. Di explained everything that was on the midterms and final - she even gives you a template that shows all the questions. As long as you keep up with the readings and homework in the course pack you should do pretty well in the course. Not an easy A but if you do the work you'll do well.
I was Hoping to clear my Chem 110 but after 2 weeks I found it impossible to do. Diana is not an easy instructor she shoots up with lectures in class and her accent is so hard to understand .
As much as i hated attending lectures and how bad i desperately wanted to drop the class i'm glad i pulled through. Di's lecture were funny but jam packed and i almost learned nothing from them. Luckily she provides you with a review for every test and even the exam and thoroughly goes through them. Without the reviews i would have not passed!
avoid ASAP. you can barely understand her speech. very fast teaching. not well organized. good luck...
For anyone who has never taken chemistry before I highly recommend taking this with a different prof. Di goes insanely fast through the material, doesn't explain anything and doesn't clarify if you have questions. She assumes that everyone just gets the content without considering that others are really struggling to understand.
I found that her lectures were not helpful at all. Learned best from reading through the text book & using Khan Academy at home. The lectures were painful & went very fast over subjects. Shown confusing methods for simple solutions. Only found test reviews helpful. Only attend labs + stay up to date with the course schedule & you will be fine.
Everyone is so quick to bash Di. She states in her email before classes begin that if your chemistry is weak, do not take the class, she even spends 4 weeks on simple review of Chemistry 12. Some complain about not being able to understand her, the closer you sit the easier it is, ultimately I love Di, you're going to get out what you put into it.
Don't take this Chemistry class with Diana. She does not explain anything and goes through the content very fast. She's funny, but not someone you would want to have as your prof. Bottom line, try your best to avoid taking this class with her.
Once you adjust to her teaching you realize she provides you with everything you need to succeed. If you don't like your first two midterm marks and do better on the final, she uses your best marks to make up your grade. Hard to understand sometimes so its better to sit at the front. Also, voice record the lectures so you can go back and listen
She's super nice and very funny, but she's terrible at explaining things. She assumes everyone has a high level of chemistry knowledge, so she skips or combines steps and doesn't explain how or why. Her lectures are extremely frustrating because they're just impossible to follow.
Doesn't teach theory. Only take if you're able teach yourself. This class is an easy A though if you follow the course pack, complete the practice tests, and can teach yourself chemistry. Ignore those who say they can't understand her accent. It's fine.
(ACCELERATED COURSE) Diana knows her stuff very well. The problem is: we don't. Class is rarely/never interacted with , lectures go very fast and are sometimes confusing. The course pack exercises are very useful though (that is the reason why I expect a A+). Be ready to study at Home, a lot. Other than that, Di is a great person, and very funny!!
Lectures can be overwhelming since it's a heavy course, but she is entertaining. She's organized & her notes are clear & easy to follow since she will use different colour pens. Do well in this class by following her todo homework list every week and be familiar with her course pack! Exams are straight forward if you do the homework and sample tests
Diana Is very nice, funny and respectful but when it come to teaching it is very confusing. The way she writes her notes on the board does not makes sense. You will understand it after a while. Her test are quite easy if you study from her course notes that you will have to buy. Her final exam was not what I expected so be careful...
She knows her stuff for sure, but there are better chem instructors at the college. She often leaves rude/condescending comments on tests if you make a mistake.
Di has an accent but you get used to it after a while. Her midterm was quite easy. She gives you a practice exam that is exactly like the real exam so as long as you study that you should do good. However, her lectures are kind of confusing and she writes super fast so it's hard to actually learn. She writes on a whiteboard and does not post on D2L
Di uses email quite often and they get pretty confusing because she sends them as a thread but they're very important to follow. She clearly states what is required for the tests but she doesn't explain steps at all. oh, ALSO!!! Get ready to listen to di talk about her cat for over half the lecture period if you take this
Before taking this course, make sure you have a solid understanding of chemistry. She isn't very good at explaining concepts in more than one way so if you don't get it you'll have to figure it out yourself. Diana tells you exactly what she expects on exams so show up to the lectures to get all the info!
I had a tough time learning from Diana. Shes a nice person but not the best professor. I found it very tough to follow her notes and was constantly lost. She does give out a very similar practice test before midterms, meaning you can pass by studying those hard. Wouldn't recommend, especially if you struggle with chemistry.
Diana is just okay. Very thicc accent. Her tests are fair but she sometimes subtracts 0.1 points for really minor things other teachers would ignore, gives bonus questions and lots of extra practice tests, but seriously, don't go to class just get your notes from someone who did, study from them and do the practice questions and you'll get an A.
Di's the greatest chemistry prof of all time... if you have a work ethic and are respectful.
The key to recive good grade in Dis class is going to her review classes which before each exams. Those are really really important, because practice questions her review will exctelly be in your exam. Di is a really nice Chemistry instructor. She is friendly and helpful.
I love chemistry, Diana makes me strongly dislike it. She only does examples in lecture and although provides practice tests, makes the questions on the test more difficult. Talks to the board not to the students, has very confusing email threads. Would avoid taking a class with her again.
I found that she went through lectures VERY quickly and there was very little "teaching." She sends out emails once a week with videos you can watch and homework you can do. She gives out test templates so each test is pretty predictable. I find her hilarious - I just wouldn't take another class with her.
Great class if you have good work ethic! She is fast paced so make sure you are in class every day and TAKE THOROUGH NOTES! Seriously, write down everything she says and writes on the board, you'll need it to go through and ask her 1 on 1 about what you didn't understand, as she flys through lectures. And do all the exercises in the textbooks!
Get ready to teach yourself! I swear she spends more time telling you what will be on the tests than actually teaching the class. If you're already strong in chemistry, you'll likely be okay.
Worst Teacher ever, Avoid at all costs! Doesn't teach just makes stupid jokes
If you struggle in math or chemistry at all DONT take chemistry with Di! She blows through lectures so fast, her accent matched with very fast talking is hard to follow, she doesnt explain how to get to the end product or go into depth about the steps. I got As in high school sciences but Di is making it impossible for me to understand & succeed.
Good luck, get ready to teach yourself. Her method of teaching is writing down equations without giving any explanation of what shes doing or why. Goes extremely fast so you dont have time to think about whats going on. She docs marks for tiny errors that other teachers wouldnt. She puts little effort into teaching and it shows. Do not take her
I have heard and read many bad things about Di, some of which were undoubtedly true. However, Di seems to have changed her style significantly. The best lectures of all time, she makes it very easy to understand. Study the practice tests and you will do very well on both midterm; the questions are practically the same. The labs are really fun too.
Diana is a hilarious and kind professor. However, do not take Chemistry with her if you struggle. She teaches in a way that's hard to understand as sometimes she doesn't explain what she is doing and she goes fast. It's important to come to her lectures! Go to her office hours if you don't understand something as she is more helpful one on one.
Li's reviews are quite mixed for good reason, she does ramble a bit in her lectures and can make things feel more complicated and confusing than necessary with her simultaneously fast paced lectures and you will *need* to go over and be able to complete the practice tests and questions you are given, with confidence, if you hope to succeed.
Di has a very specific teaching style that works really well for some and absolutely awful for others. Unfortunately, I was the latter. She makes a first year chem class WAY harder then it should be and crams so much more material in than other profs would expect of students. I couldn't understand her notes and her emails are confusing. DO NOT TAKE
All work including final and midterms were emailed. Class was basically self taught
NO LECTURES? I took this class online and there were absolutely zero lectures. All the notes were emailed out and super bare-bone with hardly any examples. I spent over $400 to teach myself an entire course. DO NOT TAKE.
Good thing is, she's funny. That's about it. Be prepared to write around 5 full pages of notes per lecture. If you can't write fast, literally do not take her class. Typing is ideal for her class, if it was an english class. I found she overcomplicated things.
"Di" was my lecture teacher this term.. one problem, she doesn't do lectures. Easily the worst learning experience I've been apart of thus far at Camosun. I didn't learn a single thing from her so she was fairly useless but she did email us material to study so I guess there's that. Strongly urge avoiding her class.
Diana's class was easily the worst I have ever taken. She delivered all the course material via email and had no lectures. When you asked her questions she would respond with one-word emails. When I asked her to explain concepts, she would tell me to refer to the course before (with no specifics). Very rude and dismissive. Avoid her class!!
Words cannot describe how frustrating this experience was for myself and my classmates. Zero lectures. "Lectures" were sent out in emails that consisted of 10 different fonts/font sizes/colours. Due dates were always unclear. One word email responses when asking critical questions about content. Spelling/grammar/mathematical mistakes everywhere.
Easily the worst professor I have ever had. SHE DOES NOT GIVE ANY LECTURES OR OFFER ANY HELP. Instead, she emails you multiple confusing and overwhelming emails with 10 attachments of lessons to teach yourself from the textbook. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION!!!!
Every post I've seen on here is totally accurate. Avoid taking a class with Diana at all costs. Trust me, it will be one of the most frustrating experiences you will ever have.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH "DI". I honestly do not know how or why she still has a job and the college allows this sort of "teaching". There are no lectures, short simple answers when asking for help and an attitude like "you should already know the material". I paid Camosun to take this class and it's an absolute joke. That's Uni for ya!!
It's really unfortunate feeling so excited about a class and spending the money on it, just to have to teach yourself. I could take these classes for free online, I'm paying for instruction and guidance. Not forwarded youtube videos and 15 pages of notes. It's unbelievable. When I did ask for guidance I was just directed to volunteer tutors.
please................ DO NOT take this class by all means.
Never choose Diana
All these things about Di are true: old school, points out your bad test scores, not accessible, not patient, hard to understand etc. BUT here's the thing - go. to. review. before. each. test. Diana *literally* writes a version of every single test question on the board and you go through it. Great prof if your major isn't chem but you need 120.
Every bad rating is accurate. Take it if you don't mind her talking about her cat or how she isn't paid enough. You won't learn anything when she only reads everything off the projector and mentions what her cat eats all day. A section on her tests if you get a question wrong it costs you a mark. Not worth the $ just go find another prof.
Di's class is very much effort based and I would recommend a solid understanding of chemistry before taking her class. I wouldn't discredit Di's teaching as to why I did poorly in her class however, her pacing is quite quick and her logic charts are overly complicated. Reviewing the lecture notes and hw q's is essential to succeed in her class.
You will be teaching the course to yourself, the final exam was crazy, and you will not understand what she said most of the time.
Di is a wonderful person and very funny, but don't bother showing up to class after the first day, you'll be teaching this course to yourself. Her lectures and lecture notes don't even cover half of what's on the exams. If you have to take this course, the practice exams she puts up will be your lifeline. Study them hard.
I don't go to lectures for any course so I cant confirm or deny many of the claims but if you are like me and prefer to do your learning self paced, Di makes that easy by providing not only a list of chapters to read but also (in addition to standard practice tests and extra exercises) OLD TESTS AND EXAMS from previous years to practice with!
I found the lecture straight forward and easy to follow. Di gives lots of questions to prepare for all the tests. Questions on the tests were 10x harder than study questions. She gives little to no part marks. I recommend taking chem with a different teacher unless you are already excellent at chem.
First off, Di is really fun. She's got good energy and she's hilarious. Not in the sense that she makes jokes, but just her off-handed comments are so funny. Love her has a person... not as a teacher. Her energy is why I gave her a 3. But her lectures are convoluted and difficult to follow. Would not recommend as a prof. I want be friends though.
Di is very friendly and approachable. However, prepare yourself for her class. She just reads off her word doc, super hard tests, expects us to have advanced chemistry experience, and her notes are super unclear. She is a generous marker and a kind person though not a great chemistry prof if you are a first year student.
Hard to understand, difficult to approach. You're better off studying by yourself
Di is hard to follow sometimes in lectures and there is a lot of self learning (like any other science course), but she gives CLEAR expectations as to what will be on exams which makes it much easier to study. She is hilarious! Only graded by exams and labs, very little work to do.
Diana is not fit to teach anymore. Her lectures are confusing and useless. Her grading criteria are somewhat clear, although she loves to pick tough questions on tests (and does not curve) that many have said are well beyond the scope of the course material! If I wasn't strong in chem, I would have failed the course. Please get rid of Diana.
I've had her twice now (chem 120 and 121). I had to retake chem 120 and learned nothing from her in 121. If you can avoid her, do. Genuinely learned nothing from her. She also can be a tough marker, even having questions where you will get negative marks for getting them wrong. As a person, she is really funny and quite nice, shouldn't be teaching.
Worst class i've ever taken. She is unfit to teach and is utterly confusing. She mainly reads off her Words doc the whole lecture and leaves the rest to be self taught. NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HER. STAY AWAY.
Di can be tough, but her class is manageable with dedication. Lectures are dry, but her practice tests and reviews are super helpful. unstuck study was a lifesaver for study prep. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding course if you put in the effort.
If u can avoid taking her class avoid it!!! Half of her lectures were just her making questionable joke that were not funny. Also be ready to learn all the material yourself.
Diana is a sweet, but she is extremely sporadic in lectures so it's extremely hard to follow along. I would recommend learning the course using the notes and practice questions ahead of time, and going to lectures to then listen to a review of stuff you've learned on your own again. That way, you can somewhat understand and feel ahead of the game.
When I was first in this class I had people at both campuses telling me good luck with Diana. I couldn't even attend lectures cause they confused me on just basic chemistry stuff. It doesn't even feel like she understands the subject herself. I'm so confused by Camosun as to how they still have her employed. Youll better off with anyone else
She's really a very nice lady, but I just truly cannot follow her lectures. I try so hard, I haven't missed one class but I just truly cannot follow what she's trying to teach. My lab prof. explained to me in like 10 minutes what Diana tried (and failed) to explain for two or more lectures... avoid her if you can. unfortunately i can't. :')
CAMOSUN LISTEN TO YOUR STUDENTS; people have been saying Li isn't a good teacher since 2019. Her class is a WASTE of $. She claims she loves teaching but actions speak louder than words. If most of your students complain about your teaching style then you'd think a passionate teacher would pivot to help their students succeed. Awful + disappointing
terrible professor. camosun, please take the portion of my tuition that was going to go to her salary and send it to the organic chemistry tutor on youtube instead, because that's who's actually been teaching me.
Worst prof ever. Graded by 2 tests and 1 final. She is unfit to teach.
As long as you attend classes and do all the practice questions and sample exams you can easily get A+.
Diana can be hard to understand in lectures but she is nice and does care a lot about her student's learning. She always offers to do extra examples and wants students to reach out if they have questions. She makes it clear what is expected on the tests. With hard work like any other course, you can do well in her class.
LOL! I had to drop this class so she wouldn't mess up my GPA because I couldn't understand anything she was saying. Lost money. It seems like she herself doesn't even understand the concepts when she's teaching them to you which sets you up for failure. Took the class again with a different instructor in the summer and got an B+.
Stopped going to the lectures after the first week Because I couldn't understand it and was better off, learning the material myself instead of wasting three hours on a bus to get to her lecture and sit, but not learn anything
WARNING!!!! DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES TAUGHT BY DIANA. THANK ME LATER
The worse teacher ever. Do not take the course.
worst prof ever. youve been warned
Does not teach, instead stands at the front of the room with her back to the class doing examples on the board. I learned more in 2 classes with a sub than the entire course with her. Ended up not going to lectures and had to teach myself the entire course. Exam averages are extremely low (~60%). Final exam is cumulative and worth 40%. Beware.
RUN! Nothing in this world would compel me to have her as an instructor again. Change your schedule or take this course a different semester. You will only pass this course if you fully teach yourself the ENTIRE syllabus. I can easily say she did not teach me a single thing. She is nice, but will waste your time, money, and effort.
Don't bother taking chemistry with her. You'll need to teach yourself the entire syllabus. Midterm average was 66 & 69 respectively and the final exam had questions not relevant to what she claimed would be on it. I regret wasting my time & money on this class. With how much she'll tank your GPA, it's criminal.
Most of the students who dislike her don't like the challenge, she has the best notes in the school. She's kind and cares, but is challenging if you want to breeze through chem then get destroyed in later years don't take Dianna if you want to be good at chem and have a foundation, take her course.
di isn't a very terrible chem prof unless you have a hard time grasping the concepts. She's forgiving in her marks and tries to find different ways to help you with bonus marks etc. her lectures can be quite dry. You can ace the class if you just do the practice tests a bunch. if you're having trouble you should visit Zach in the science helpcenter
