Martin isn't that bad of a teacher. The class isn't that bad either; RIDICULOUSLY boring (both of them), but not that bad. Make sure to GO TO LECTURE, because there will be random questions thrown in on the test about side remarks she made in lecture. Besides, going to lecture eliminates having to read the book since...she WROTE it! lol

Martin only taught one lecture in 102 and it was the lecture I was the most confused about. This woman is very intelligent and I respect her for that. However, because she is so intelligent she thinks what she's teaching up is really easy when it's really not. She is no clearer in person than the book she wrote on the subject matter.

Not a very good professor. She is extremely intelligent but her lectures sucks. You would do just as well reading the book by yourself. She doesn't hold a candle to Keating. Keating is the best bio teacher, much easier to understand and I learned so much more with Keating than I ever did with Martin.

She's real boring, but then again she's teaching biology. I managed a B in the class without paying attention that much in class but just reading the book on my own (didn't read that much and I'm not a bio buff either). So if you go to lecture, listen and take notes, and read a little you'll get an A.

This teacher isn't bad at all as long as you're willing to put in the time and effort. My recommendation for doing well in 101-102 for Dr. Martin's exams: get the lecture outline from the mslc, take good notes during class, go over your notes and compare them with the outline. Use the book for clarity and for anything thats missing in your notes.

ok, so everyone makes this lady seem to be a horrible teacher. if you just go to her lectures and pretty much write everything she says, its an easy A. I didnt use the book for any of the exams she made, just memorized the notes i took from lecture. just go to lecture, and write everything she says..it will be on the test.

You don't necessarily have to read the entire book to do well on the final (I learned that the hard way. I almost went delirious from reading everything!). Definitely read notes, and you should be fine. The course seemed really dry at times, but it's okay, overall (I got a B in the course).

I visited the first few lectures, and then stopped going (zzzzzz). I got an A. I read the book, and bought the study guide upstairs in the MSLC the night before each exam. Make sure you do well on the lab practical, it counts for a large bulk of your grade.

People complain about how he reads from the book, but that's because SHE WROTE THE BOOK. In any case, since you're going to have to use the book a lot anyway, the best way to study (in my opinion) is to get the notes from the MSLC (since she doesn't test everything in the book) and make good notes on the chapter and review 'em.

She's really just an old grandma and she fits the stereotype. She likes to ramble and talk about how things are pronounced but if you either listen to her lectures (boring) or read the book (special attention to diagrams) you'll be fine. Old exams are online studyblue or DC++ so go for it. Very strict with plagarism BE CAREFUL

Martin is an average teacher. She is a bit boring and tries to be funny at times. She's not that bad, if you had a choice between Martin or someone else teaching on Cook/Doug, take martin because she makes a large portion of the exams. Just read the book and do the outlines, and you'll do fine if you study frequently (not night before).

Insanely difficult. Moves quickly through volumes of slides in her lectures. What could be worse? The fact that you can't get any of her slides online. Something has to be wrong when <20% correct on a test is a what 75% of the students get. Takes pride in her coauthored book- needs to take more in teaching. Stay away if possible!

She isn't as bad as people say she is. She talks slow enough so you can write down good notes. Her lecture outlines will save your butt when studying for her difficult tests SO GET THEM. Yes, they are hard, but that means a bigger curve. Read the chapter before going to class and study hard. Science is hard, don't try to blame the professor.

Buy her lecture notes (or copy/scan them yourself, just ask at MSLC). Go to lecture, because anything she doesn't cover in lecture won't be on the exams (even if they're mentioned in lecture notes). Her lecture reviews were helpful if you have questions, as well as TA office hours. Don't slack off in lab. She's a decent professor.

Dr. Martin really is not as everyone makes her out to be. She talks slowly so it's easy to take good notes. Just be sure to get the lecture outlines at the MSLC! They are the most important things to study before her exams; maybe only 10-15 questions on the exam will not be covered in the outline. As long as you're willing to work, you'll do fine.

I actually like Dr. Martin. She is a very nice person and although her lectures are sometimes boring, she makes up for it by making jokes. But, like most professors, she does expect students to read the book before attending lecture. The people who say this class is way too difficult probably barely make an effort in reading the book.

Thank god this woman retired this year! She SUCKS and made me hate bio. They probably put her up there to bore the pre-meds so they would consider changing career plans. She was so oldschool and I'm glad that woman is gone from Rutgers. Transue took over and he is such a better professor than this woman. Kathy agnese(her ASSistant) SUCKS as well.
