Good teacher! A little boring but she lets you watch interesting videos. Do your work and take good notes and you're guaranteed an A. Don't but the book-won't need it!!
she's a good looking teacher but her class is so boring. I wish I didn't take her class but what can I do. It's an easy A if you try but make sure you read the boring book.
I iked Poulson for Soc 10, but not for Soc 2. She was much easier in Soc 10 and seemed to like the subject more. The projects were great in that class and she made the material make sense. Overall, she isnt to bad of a teacher at all.
Basically, if it weren't for graded attendance, you could easily get an A in the class just by reading the book. She isn't very focused and didn't seem all that fascinated with the material. I definitely learned A LOT, but mostly from the textbook, which I really enjoyed. The book was the best te
She is fun and her class is really interesting and easy. There was not much homework and 2 projects that were easy and fun. It was a chill class. Keep up attendance though.
Easy teacher.. However, she is sometimes hard to follow due to her random tangents that she goes off on.

Very easy class, read the book. Attendance is key!
I had her for both classes....she's really one of the easiest teachers i've encountered..... If you like to participate and attend class....then you've got an A or at least a B in the bag!

SHES AND IDOIT! if we wernt reading from a book she wouldnt know what class we were in. if you want an easy A, take her class but if you ever want to actualy want learn something about Soci. take fuller. you do have to do work but you will learn what soci actually is. you are better off saving your money an going to the libary reading a book on soc
Attendance is very important and if you pay attention you will do well.
She was well spoken and informative. I took her class years ago and still remember tones of stuff from it. I can't see why anybody wouldn't like her class.
She is a nice and interesting teacher, fairly easy.
She usually teaches @ Petaluma but I hate her in SR. She's a super easy teacher. It's easy to get a good grade. Her class lectures are faily interesting. It helps if you have people in your class that participate. I would suggest taking her, plus the class itself is interesting & useful for all!
Course material itself is a cakewalk. However, she is both unorganized and unclear about material. Lectures have absolutely nothing to do with exam info, which comes directly from the textbook. If you know anything at all about society, you will take little from this class. Were attendance not 1/3 of the grade, there would be no reason to show up.
IF you want to keep your sanity, DO NOT take this class. She uses her class as a soap box and if you dont think like her or believe in what she beleives in, she wont like you. She is rude and no one can stand her in my class right now. You wont learn a thing from her either. what she tries to teach is all common sense. WASTE OF TIME!!!
Although she makes it clear that she is a Democrat, which is common among teachers but annoying, I really enjoyed her lectures. She was informative and humorous to an extent. I definitely learned plenty in her class, especially the text book.
Easy class, but made attendance a little too mandatory. A girl in my class had heart surgery and wasn't allowed to miss more than three classes. Is kind of a ****.
lecture is un-engaging, you learn all material from the book outside of class. Death/family emergency does not excuse absences and will bring grade down. interesting videos, but not a fun class.
This class is not only a waste of time but teacher makes class complete torture, she is unhelpful, tests are ridiculous, entire semester was a waste of my time not to mention I learned nothing but what was the point of showing up when she was late, unprepared and had nothing to teach that was text or test related..don't make same mistake
The last person who should be teaching a Sociology class. She is extremely narrow-minded. If you do not agree with her then she doesn't respect you. Her lectures have nothing to do with the tests and not much to do with the material covered in the book. I leave class angry because she is so crazy. Don't be fooled. I liked her the first day.
Very unfair. Despite what her syllabus states, if you are absent whether or not you can make up work depends on her mood. Pretends like she cares, but she for the most part hates her students. Will not give you any extra help if its not during her small amount of office hours. Only interested in your comments if you agree with her.
DO NOT TAKE HER! Seriously, I wish I looked on here first. It was absolute torture and I am a Sociology major. She seems nice at first, but all she cares about is being in charge of the class. She is like a nagging mother. I think she likes the sound of her own voice. She is always late. She is very unfair.
The only thing good about this class was the text. Which was vaguely,if ever, discussed during class time. Movies were informative and entertaining, but I feel sociolgy could have been so much more engaging. Teacher is always 5 min late for class, does not offer extra credit, or much extra help for her students at all. Overall disappointment.
Although she is very strict on attendance she is usually 2-5 minutes late to the class every time! I however took a lot from the class. I thought she was a GREAT sociology teacher, i'm actually taking another sociology class next semester with her!
she's not that bad! do your reading and pay attention.
Not an awful teacher, but I get the feeling my level of engagement in the class would have been much higher if she were not my teacher. Assignments are pretty easy, but the directions are usually vague. You can fail the class based on attendance, which is ironic considering she is almost always late.
I've taken all of her classes and like them a lot and I learned a lot. She does seem to be tough on attendance, I wouldn't know because I was there. Do the work and quit whining, she's not your mother.
Good class, teacher is nice, but nobody would talk. I recommend her.
Lively discussions. Really fun class. Like she says, after this class you'll never look at families in the grocery store quite the same way again.
Interesting claSS. It really made me think. She's big on exploring ideas. She doesn't give concrete answers. Wants us to really think. She'll say "That's an interesting idea". She's a good teacher. I've decided to to major in Soc. Book was okay. Some long chapters though.
Inspiring and high energy teacher. Eye opeining topics! Great class. Highly recommended.
Horrible teacher. Does not comminicate with class well. Attendance policy is horrible, and is not clear on when too many absences are close to failure. I do not reccoment. Topics she brought up werent even related to what was in the books.. And this is supposed to be her 'profession?'
Diana was a nice lady, but her class was absolutely pointless. She wasn't clear on what she expected from us and it was really difficult to read the book when she was covering different chapters in class and didn't ever refer to the book. A lot was expected from us that she never really told us.
Really wired teacher. A lot of your grade is based on attendance. Tests are via internet and ALL BASED ON READING!!! Discussions were pretty interesting. I really like her "breaking norms" assignment where we had to do something weird in public like fish in a public fountain, dress up to eat fast food, wear clothes inside out, etc.
Has her own strong views, doesnt always want arguments with peer views. If you take some notes, read the book, and never miss class you will be fine. midterm was take home and could use the book. was a pretty good class.
This class was pretty interesting. All of our quizzes were online and I'll admit that I used my book to answer some of the questions...But besides that, there were not many assignments, just a few essays to write (more like long opinions). The tests weren't very hard, some studying definitely helps. But if you read along diligently, you'll be fine.
She is so rude! Yesterday we were having a discussion and I voiced my opinion and since she did not agree with it she kicked me out! Do not take her if you like to speak your mind, because you will get penalized for it. Also, she is very hypocritical and doesn't seem like she really knows what she is talking about. POINTLESS,HORRIBLE TEACHER!
bad teacher. better not take her. trust me.
Awesome class. Very engaging. Learned a lot. She's high energy and encourages us to THINK. I've read the posts that say she's opinionated. I don't agree. Plays devil's advocate sometimes but it's about teaching us to know what we're talking about. Big on community involvement. Loved the class
Super strict on attendance. I don't like sociology, but she's not much of a teacher either. Super easy grader though. If you show up every day and turn in anything at all for essays you'll probably get an A. You can easily get by without reading too. Still, she's really annoying. The hardest part of class is sitting through it.
I regret taking this class completely. I'm a straight A student and, though the class isn't over yet, there is no way I can get an A. I am in the online class and the tests are absolutely impossible. I have never done so poorly on tests. The assignments are easy but often very unclear about what she expects. DO NOT TAKE HER!
It's too bad that she puts so much emphasis on attendance as opposed to whether you grasp the material, and do your work. She tried to fail me when I missed over 3 classes, which I missed so that I could visit my sick grandma in the hospital. I convinced her to give me a C, because I would have gotten an A had I not missed 4 classes. Horrible.
I seriously wish I had found this site before taking her. All the negative comments about her are completely true. She's narrow-minded and her lectures are useless. After reading the comments here, I'm now worried I might get failed for attendance, even though I always have good reasons for being gone. Read the book if you want to pass the tests.
Horrible teacher. Close-minded, lectures are pointless, and the book is the only way you learn anything. Make sure to print your quizzes because you need those to study for the final. She's a total control-freak. You shouldn't take her, but if you do then DO THE READING if you want to learn anything, or pass the tests.
i disagree with the other comments. She's very open-minded I think. the class is about being open-minded and creative and solving social problems after all... she's very nice and understanding and the class is always interesting. a lot of films too and it's a pretty easy A, just one essay and a project.
I wish I had read "rate you Professor" before taking her online class. I found her unwilling to go the extra steps for her students. She did not follow up well with students questions online, and she did state that she did not have the time comment on each student as she did not have the time. Why take more students than you can handle.
Do not take Sociology from this instructor. She is inefficient, rude, and isn't even willing to answer emails from students in a timely manner. She needs to work on her online teaching skills!!
Horrible online teacher! Online modules are closed after one week so you can't refer back to the material after being graded on assingments. Points scale is in the 700's to get an A (instead of just giving students a point for doing the work). Tested on complex socialogical theory 3 weeks into class and then graded on steep scale.
teacher is not clear with her dates and doesnt really interact with the class closes all modules after one week so can go back and review for test does not answer questions promply and puts short time limits on all tests. not everyone can take a test in 20mins some people have test anxiety and need more than a minute or 30 seconds to read a ques!
horrible teacher! took her online class, not helpful! no extra credit! bad spelling, grammar mistakes, doesn't update her lectures, and you study from the book only, she barley writes anything in the lectures!! DO NOT TAKE HER!
I took Poulson's introductory sociology course online for spring semester. Website is outdated. Other than that, the class was fairly easy. Never once read the text, still got a B. You do need the text, as she will ask for definitions from the book. Only reason I got a B was because I missed an sizable assignment assignment.
She replaced my real teacher and turned my favorite class into my most boring one. She is very "blonde" and doesnt seem to know what she is talking about. I didnt really learn anything from her, only by reading or watching the movies did i learn. I do not reccomend taking her class unless you have to.
I have a huge interest in sociology so decided to give this online class a try. It was a huge mistake. The online tests were impossible to finish on time and on top of that she is still not done grading things from the beginning of the semester. It is extremely frustrating. This is such a wonderful subject, do not take it with her...it'll ruin it.
She actually told my class that we will not be taught the test material , and instead she rants about things unrelated to the midterm and final.I had to use my book for all the test questions and had to teach myself everything. She only accepts her opinion and is not very helpful if you talk to her. Nice lady , bad teacher, avoid her if possible.
Awesome class, average instructor. Feedback was limited to 1 final response to whole class discussion, nothing individual. Text book is good but lectures were just OK. Must study book to pass exams. Online gradebook was obnoxious. Super late grading & didn't reflect work to compare with her min. if any feedback so it was useless tool to learn from.
Poulson was slow to grade and a bit controlling. If you decide to take this class be sure to copy all lectures and terms so you know what to study for in the final and midterm. She doesn't give out study guides and she closes down each module at the end of the week. In other words, if you don't take notes or copy/paste the lectures you will be SOL
This teacher ruined my interest in sociology. She ruined my gpa, and she ruined my respect for teachers. I cannot believe the school allows such people to feed these students' minds. Oh and she won't grade your stuff until possibly the month after you're out. DO NOT TAKE HER, EVEN IF SHE'S THE LAST OPTION, JUST WAIT FOR ANOTHER TEACHER.
Took her SOC 1 class, still waiting for a final grade even though it's the last day to turn in grades. She is not consistent with her class structure. I need a computer for tests and she let me use it once, telling me when I did it a second time that I was "compromising the integrity of the exam." Didn't get tests back "not on scantron."
I actually enjoyed her class. I was a little skeptical at first after reading all these comments but she wasn't a bad teacher. Yes she took a while to grade things, but we watched a ton of interesting movies & I felt that I learned a lot. Quizzes, midterm & final exam all open note/book. There were a number of essays but very easy and graded easy.
Diana is a very opinionated teacher, and when your own opinions do not agree with her own, she is very blunt in telling you so. I received multiple "0" grades out of 6 and 12 points possible due to the fact that she disagreed with me. These were essay response questions, so even attempting them should warrant at least a few points… or am I wrong...
Prof Poulson has high expectations for her students. If you think you can bs your way through this class you are very wrong. Read the textbook thoroughly. The quizzes aren't too bad and the weekly exercises aren't either, but answers need to be thoughtful and accurate. Midterms, final and a big research paper at the end.
I'm taking the online class and I like it because it's in order to pass you just need to study the chapter and do the assignments which are actually interesting. She is a really tough grader though which sucks because she does assign a lot of work weekly. I did ask for help on something and I felt stupid due to her response which wasn't cool.
I disagree with so these comments. She writes very extensive comments in the grade book and spends a lot of time during the first week helping students get used to the online program. Always very helpful and responsive. Makes it very clear this class IS NOT about opinions. There's nothing close minded about her or the class.
Loved this class. It was a lot of work, but I learned a lot. Very helpful instructor. Gives a lot of individual feedback.
Has high expectations for her students. Slow to grade work. Questions and directions can be a bit confusing at times. Read the book and actually put some thought into assignments and you'll pass. Didn't really like the class at first or the group project for an online class, but liked the class by the end. Learned a lot. Overall, decent class.
Loved this class and learned a lot! I like that she wants us to communicate with each other. Online classes can feel really isolating. I felt I got to know my classmates through the message board. Having taken other online classes, I found this class very well organized. Not an easy A, that's for sure, but I really feel like I learned something!
Great Teachers,, great lectures, and she is overall a caring, and compassionate person
A decent amount of weekly hw. Who gives a group project online? Rarely hears you out. Strict guidelines with aweful software. Dont care for her and her outdated/unclear assignments, but all tests are open book with a few tricky questions. Been busting my butt rechecking class everyday and I have a feeling the 2nd (80pt) paper will drop me to a B.
Poulson is a great teacher. I must say she does make you work for your grade. Each week there are message bored assignments, assignments on whatever topic we were learning, there are quizzes each week on chapters assigned. If you are a SOC major I recommend taking her, she makes you understand concepts thoroughly. If not a SOC major, try another.
The hybrid class requires one Saturday meeting per month (30 points each just for showing up). She's interesting and funny. You can only access her quizzes and tests once, otherwise you receive an automatic zero, so be sure that your computer isn't about to update or shut down for some reason. Final project was straight-forward (APA format).
I took her soc 1 class online. Online classes can be a bit confusing and she does not help this out. 1. you can't communicate with her on email. 2. it is confusing what is due and when. 3. who assigns a group project on an online class? 4. ask for any help and you will not receive it. she probably should not take on so many students...
Non-communicative, wouldn't take responsibility for misgrading, and writes terrible test questions. But fun assignments.
Confusing direction on assignments.
if you think you can bs your through this class you're wrong. heavy reading and very unclear instructions for discussion prompts. weekly chapter quizzes are not straight forward questions its more of pick the BEST answer possible type of questions. she takes forever to respond to emails, I emailed 3 times before getting a response.
I would not recommend this professor.
I don't feel that this professor is one I'd ever recommend. The group project was incredibly confusing and she specifically said we couldn't ask her questions. My project didn't even get graded even though I participated! I emailed her and it was a lost cause. She was very cold and would make condescending feedback with everything I turned in.
I took this class online during the summer. There are about 2 to 3 quizzes and an exam every week and were sometimes confusing. The discussions were sometimes fun but make sure you follow all the directions that she gives because she will mark you down if some part of it is missing. There are also activities, an easy paper and a final paper.
I enjoyed this class and still felt it was a little assignment heavy. There is a research paper near the end that I felt she could allow a slightly longer time frame for research and completion. That said, she cares about student success and I feel I learned a lot in her class.
Professor Poulson was able to help me learn a lot through the semester and changed the way I view the world sociologically. This class really helped to advance me as a student. Get ready to read, its a lot but it's worth it. Weekly quizzes, discussion assignments, tests throughout, and one essay at the end. Easy class if you work. Would recommend
One of the most eye opening courses I've ever taken in college. Great material she chose for class. She is a great instructor with thorough communication. Do the reading and you will do great on the quizzes. Research paper seems overwhelming but she gives plenty of time and help when needed. Would recommend her online class.
She seems like a nice person but not very good at online classes. Her criteria are unclear and it takes days for her to get back to you. Quiz questions aren't always written in correct grammar. She doesn't always let you know why you got a certain grade on an assignment. She still hasn't graded a small assignment from 3 months ago I don't recommend
Unfortunately she is not very responsive and her grading contradicts her rubrics. If you cannot find a different professor then youll have to take her, do try your hardest to take a different professor. Preferably a professor who values individuality and creativity and respects human experiences that differ from their own.
This woman failed me because she believed I plagiarized however I did not and she never conducted a proper investigation. Do what you want with that warning.
She seemed nice but I didn't really get to know her because it was an online class. Her workload seemed moderate to me. Just get the work done and you pass the class. Beware of the final paper!
No extra credit, no extensions, does not include essays in her modules. I love school and i am a straight A kinda person. I HAVE NEVER HAD A TEACHER MAKE SUCH A FASCINATING SUBJECT SO... UNINTERESTING. I took her during covid sent multiple messages saying she will not extend deadlines for anyone, for any reason. I lost internet one week boom, C-
Lectures?None Book?None Quizzes Tests?Right off quizlet including the typos. however this teacher is the type to give you 3 Zeros on day one if you didnt have canvas ready to go, it happened to me. Later a written exam was not turned in on canvas bc she doesnt set the due times for midnight despite saying thats when due- she is Eager To Fail
I enjoyed the assigned textbook, the movies, and the "political" discussions we had in class, and she seemed to be very passionate about the topics she teaches... Relatively easy class but not a whole lot of structure. Attendance is mandatory, and she is not very forgiving towards absence no matter the circumstances! Missed classes = grade drop.
Was enjoying the class until halfway through. Easy modules each week w/ discussions + quizzes. A few exams. Started to assign hours of videos each week. She has ZERO flexibility and doesn't care about the individual. No late work, whatsoever. Takes forever to respond to emails and "not available on weekends" but has work due every weekend?!
She is so boring to listen to and attend class for. She plays videos, lean too much on the textbook, and doesn't actually provide much substance to her lectures. Very heavy on online activities and does grading on homework assignment. Class discussions are very dry and boring. sociology would have been more fun with a different prof.
Professor Poulson reminds me of my mom so I liked her right away. She is clear about what she expects and isn't that hard of a grader.
Long lectures , so many group projects. Goes in circles to get to the point. Spends weeks showing films you will be tested on.
