Dr. Torrez knows her stuff, and you will learn a lot. She'll engage the class during lectures and ask for input, which I liked. Professor Torrez is one of the worst professors I've ever had. She is a tough grader, never accepts late work, and offers barely any extra credit. She also conducts exams via lockdown browser. Her course is very hard to keep up with and very demanding. Would not recommend it to anyone.

She is very tough, she doesn't allow exceptions to anyone for anything. Unfortunately, she does not understand that students also have a personal life and won't help you at all, even when asked for an extension. When you ask for help, she will straight-up say NO. If you can avoid this class at all costs, my advice is to do so.

Her lectures are long and she gets off topic a lot and her material doesn't help prepare you for tests. Her grading is very strict, 1 little mistake and you get points taken off. Attendance is mandatory and graded. Doesn't accept late work. I don't recommend.

The material provided is pretty dense but interesting. I will say that the extra credit quizzes are not great at preparing you for the exams, even though she says they are. As long as you write thoughtful discussion posts, do the written assignments well, do the XC quizzes, and utilize the book during open book exams, you will be fine.

Class is very reading and assignment heavy. Does NOT accept any late work. Submitted everything on time but forgot to include a portion of the last assignment. When asking to make up for it, her response was a flat out no and very rude and unprofessional. She does not understand students make mistakes and have life outside the classroom.

Compared to other online courses, the lectures were rushed and did not provide much information. She did a poor job of giving instructions on what exactly she wanted out of various assignments/tests and graded tough. I reached out with questions because I really wanted to understand the material, but she was unprofessional in her responses.

One of my least favorite professors ever. She does not understand that students have lives outside of class and other work to complete, and that life happens in general. Was rude in emails as well. Skips super quick through lecture slides, verbally disagrees with students during lecture discussions. take ANY other SOC1110 section if you can.

Dr. Torrez assigns too many readings that are lengthy and sometimes hard to read. Once class starts, she will pick on a random student to ask hyperspecific questions that you would have to read the assigned texts thoroughly to answer/know. During assignments, it was hard to know what to succeed on due to the lack of communication of requirements.

Bad at communicating, gives unfinished/confusing rubrics, expects you to know lecture material before it has been taught for attendance, and over relies on student led discussions rather than doing her job and actually teaching. Average amount of work, annoying group project, and rambling lectures. Mind numbingly boring. Seriously. So. Boring.

I would NOT recommend this class to anyone, the professor does not care about the well-being of her students. She likes to pick on a certain student through the semester and will only ask them difficult questions. Very vague rubrics and very harsh grading, was incredibly rude in emails, gives NO extra credit or late exceptions

Dr, Torrez is a great person, she is kind and really wants her students to succeed in their current and future classes. While there are a lot of assignments, as long as you stay on top of it, the class is actually really enjoyable. The professor is hard yes, but she really is a good instructor

Dr Torrez was friendly and seemed to enjoy teaching. Class mostly consisted of lectures with breakout groups. Expect some form of homework each week (2-3hrs) including discussion posts. If you enjoy sociology you will likely enjoy this class. You earn the grade you deserve.

A lot of her intro to sociology course material relies on group discussion, having an awkward environment can take a toll on your learning experience. She is a clear communicator when reading lecture slides aloud, however take your notes fast as she powers through slides. She can also be incredibly hard to reach in person. Also lots of writing.

Waste of a semester. Every class that you show up to, you have to write 250-300 words along with a reading. Every Monday, you have a personal reflection that is 250 words. "Group Essay" as your final project and multiple 4-5 page essays as well. Participation is docked even if you are sick or have an emergency, and there is no making it back up

This class was tough. If you expect to not read, then you might be out of luck. The grading can be a little tough because you get graded to the hundredths place which is confusing because why am I losing "0.0x" of a point. I think also it is weird because I don't have time for 5 hours of reading/night to get through the module information.

Minimum of one 250-300 discussion a week. Requires you to fill out a Health Diary of your health per week and write an essay at the end. The class is extremely heavy in the amount of reading and work that you have to do since she fills it with busy work. Her lectures are pretty interesting, but it just gets repetitive when it's the same discussion.
