She is helpful!
Assignment instruction VERY unclear
Will need coffee to stay awake in class. She actually has FUN doing stats

Class average before finals was 40%. Enough said
****y...enough said
She is a nice prof, helpful but her tests are brutal
she's literally crazy
her tests are hard, damn hard
Final exams are extremely hard
Used to be great.

Nice person. Fair. Gave me reference letter to go to HK.
Me not understand. Very hard.
exam is VERY VERY hard! she's not teaching too well...
She'd be a great prof. if her tests weren't not only extremely hard, but also really damn unfair!
Prof W. is very systematic, clear and precise in her teaching. She's organized and prepares the class well with online homework, assignments, etc. Her exams are demanding, but fair. Great teaching style for this kind of course. I learned a lot.
Do the past exams and the midterm will be a breeze. The final is a bit harder but should at least end up with 85 for the overall mark!
The midterm and final is extremely easy. A very helpful prof outside of class. Very easy to get an A+
The worst prof I have ever seen. Not enough background knowledge, couldn't teach you real stuff, only repeating the book. Could be extremely mean sometimes. Don't know how to respect students.
This prof is the worst prof I've ever had. She is unreasonable and mean. She is not helpful and too high strung. She yelled at me in front of the entire class and embarassed me. She tried to kick me out of the class.
Whistler is the worst prof I've had so far.. unreasonable, mean, and inhuman. Students' efforts are not appreciated. She always thinks that she is right and no one else is. She doesn't even hand out midterms to students after a certain time.
Very easy course...if you don't do well in this course you shouldn't be in econ
EASY EASY EASY. Whoever is complaining about this class being hard is a total dumbass. It's basically math for dummies: easy midterms, easy assignments, etc.
It is not about the course being easy or not but this professor is mean. She is very moody and her attitude is sometimes really bad.
she's a mean prof, but this course was extremely easy. easy midterms, assignments, and final. she's not very helpful outside of class. she reads directly from the text, so read the book, keep up with schedule, and you never have to go to class.
This is the worst prof ever. Stats is normally an easy course, but the way she taught it was random and unfair. There is nothing good to say about her, and she is a prime example why UBC's economic department is going downhill.
Brutual. She is mean, cruel, difficult, high strung, and basically crazy. She yells, can't control her voice, and doesn't answer questions. The class average of our midterm was 44%,and she refused to give practice questions for the 2nd midterm.SHAZAM sucks.
she doesn't teach well.. she copies the theory out of the book without explaining them.. she doesn't do pratical problems in class and expects we know how to do them in the exam... BAD PROF.
althought i got 86% for this course, I still think she didn't teach well!!! You may as well read the textbook on your own! she skips lots of topics in the book while she expects you to know them for the exam. BAD
she doesn't teach well... and exams aren't easy.. the ASQ problems will not be tested..
she doesn't know how to teach.... this course is nothing about econ....
This prof is the worst I have ever seen! In her exam there are lots of things that she did not teach in class and expect us to know. She only reads through notes and copys them on the board. There is nothing more. No example done or review before exams.
she's the worst prof ever...wtf? can't ask questions during exams? and if u have a question during class..she CAN'T answer it cuz she doesn't understand what she's talking about..she might know econ..but she surely cannot teach it
Just take pages of notes in her class. No interact with students whether we understand or not. No questions allowed in the exam though her question is not clear.
Tip: have to literally memorize most of her notes
She is the worst prof I'have even had.She Doesnt know how to teach and not respect students. She yells at students in front of the class. No questions can be asked during exams, ridiculous? If u asked,"Use your judgement!"would be the only ans

She is eccentric, but she gives you all the information you need to do well. If you are prepared for the lectures, they are good review. To anyone who thinks she is hard, you are probably dumb.
she is ok
She is brilliant - no question about that. She assigns *a lot* of work - sometimes it feels like I have an additional course. She marks very mercilessly - won't give anyone a break. There is often no such things as partial marks which can kill you on exams. Unfair.
She is a hardworking prof. She'll answer almost any questions and reply emails within like 1 day!!! NO doubts that she gives out a lot of hwk & assignments, but she's always there to help and these works help you understand the materials better. Great prof!! =P

This woman is a robot. It's worth taking the course just for the uncomfortable 'jokes' or when she chews someone out, if you're into that cruel kind of humour. The course is dry as the Sahara and her test can be extremely hard, but it's not that bad. The final was a big relief.
She IS a bit strange, but her courses are incredibly well organized and she's actually very nice. If she reams you out in class, it's because you were disturbing the class. The final this year was a piece of cake.
MEMORIZE NOTES. ONLY use text if you don't understand notes. tests are mostly theory, all questions are from notes. study previous exams if possible especially for the final. lectures are dry, but she gives you material you need to do well. She is very helpful during office hours.
just horrible
If you do all the online quizzes, you should do quite well in the exams. Almost all exam questions are from the quizzes, so no use for notes. However, make sure you DO understand how to get the answers and you need notes to do the assignments. I dislike her though. She may have some mental problems, hard to say b/c I don't know the situation. She c
Her course material is the same every year, no point going to her class if you have access to her notes. She answers questions e-mailed to her with another question without answering yours. Her classes are boring. Lots of homework but if u actually do them u will do well on her exams.
Statistics itself is dry and tedious. So naturally, teaching it would be the same no matter if your Dave Chappelle or Al Gore. That said, Prof Whistler's course is very organized and you will get all you need to do well in the course. ASQ is horrible in my opinion. Just show up expecting to be taught what is needed and no more no less.
Honestly, people who think she's the wicked witch of the west should give her a break. She's actually quite nice. Don't be a smart ass and piss her off, and you'll learn to like her and more importantly, you'll LEARN. Go to class, ask questions, do your ASQs, and understand her past exams and you'll be fine. Got an A and I suck at stats.
Prof. Whistler. Her lectures are good. She's great. She moves constantly around the class--kinda cute. She seemed a nice and shy person. But otherwise she is an intelligent prof I've ever had!
this is probably the worst prof I've ever had, she makes material that is relatively easy difficult coz her lectures are boring and lure you to sleep. She writes non stop on the board and talks in spurts... she is not helpful and she seems pissed off when you talk to her after class and office hours... dO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS UR IN ECON MAJOR

she's nice.. but her final was so hard! the questions on the exam seem totally different from the ones you're exposed to in the course. they all seem like they're missing a piece of information so you can't really solve them.. oh.. i really hope i passed the final.
the final was hard and guess what, it's 65% of the whole grade. reading textbook and going to class haven't helped at all. seriously, what was she thinking when she was making the exam? one of the two worst econ courses so far.
The course material is basic but the way that she teaches makes it hard. Classes were noisy because she couldn't control the noise and all she does is write on the chalkboard, not really teaching but reading right off her notes. Not a good class but mandatory for Econ majors.
absolutely DRY, she just writes on the board, extremely unapproachable, her final exam was above and beyond what a majority of us expected, a couple of people left within the first half hour, most of just gave up, for the love of pete, find someone else to teach this course and 326 too!!!
To be honest, I liked statistics better than other math subjects. But she made the topic harder than necessary. When I took econ 226, I perfectly knew everything, but for some reason her explanation and the textbook made everything so hard. She never explained anything and she kept on writing on the board as if she was in her own world.
worse prof ever! should be fired. i never had a class where the class avg was as low as 65%. sadly, im stuck w/ her for another term for 326.
I don't know what you guys are talking about! 325 was EASY! the midterm was SO EASY! the final wasn't all that bad if you've done the her past exams, just becareful on the terms and stuff and you should be fine! DO HW, ASQ true it's hard to listne in class and not fall asleep but read your notes after. Her teaching's standard. i like it. cute prof
Very bad professor and always keep bad mood.If she does not like you, you definitely have no good days in her class, because she always uses her bias to deal with things.

She's pretty excentric... but let's face it, her classes are really easy. If you don't do well in her classes, don't attempt further work in econometrics.
After taking both terms w/her, I figured out the trick to do well in her class. dont have to attend class, dont have to do well on m/t, get assgmts done bc those are easy 10%. More importantly, study hard for final since its worth 65%. study her notes, read it over as many times as u can making sure u understand everything, and u will ace the final
she's a nice prof, notes are clear, answers email questions asap. Do your assingments and asq. The asq, assingments were really helpful for the midterm but the final exam came out of no where. Final exam was not fair at all.
the course is really easy. she doesn't explain much in class, just simply reading notes( which is actually textbook materials). the worst is she doesn't know how to explain materials
Boring class
although her notes are very clear, her exams are kind of hard. she tries to bring the average down in the end: that's her goal i believe.
I went to class before the midterm but all I did was play on my D/S or watch movies on my buddies' laptop, (which probably annoyed those around us) After the Midterm I avoided going to class altogether. Class is not mandatory, she just reads her notes which are pretty straight forward themselves. Just do the practice exams and read the notes.
This teacher lecturing econometrics is like listening to a psychologist talking about sex. She just takes the fun out of it.

I don't get why people thought she is hard, it is probably because they are stupid. Econometrics is difficult to begin with but Whistler did not make her a class a living hell because the exams were not that bad (as we were allowed to have our own cheat sheets) and the assignments did not take that much time to do. No need to go to class.
honestly, she's not too hard. but confuses the hell outta you. says at least 5 ummmmms in each sentence and sometimes doesnt even bother finishing the sentence she started.
325 is very easy!!i really can't get why some people said it was hard.the only thing you need for her class is study through the notes.text book is useless.
Answered emails pretty quickly. ASQ absolutely useless. Textbook was horrible, and didn't have anything to do with material on midterm and final. Brutally difficult course. Not for the faint-hearted.
I think a some people on here are being unfair - she might be a bit awkward but she puts loads of time into making great notes, answering emails thoroughly, etc. The course itself is very easy once you thoroughly understand the material, which you can really do just from the notes if you want.
Useless prof; does not know how to explain anything in class; useless superfluous notes; useless textbook - I would never recommend taking a course taught by her (actually makes me wonder how she's still teaching at ubc!)
She may be awkward sometimes but overall she's a good prof who replies to emails and solves your questions. The course isn't that hard but you may need to spare more time on reading notes on your own.
Perhaps the most awkward person ever, but all things considered she was a good prof. Don't bother going to class or reading text, as the exams are lifted straight from the crystal-clear lectures that are verbatim online. If you can learn independently, you can get an A+ in ECON 325/326 no problem w/o showing up for a single class but the midterm.
She might be a very helpful person but she's just a really awkward prof. Cannot explain course material, the class is just so noninteresting that I sometimes felt like I was being hypnotized. Good book but barely used in either midterm or final. ASQ is completely useless as well. Do the assignment and skim through her weird notes and youll get an A
Nice Prof, Notes are extremely useful. Study the notes well and you will get an A for sure!
Well she is nice but she always gets nervous... Which makes her lecture boring...
fails to interest students and state the importance of the topic. Final exam has only a few SHORT questions. I do not see how this can fairly evaluate a student.
Boring prof, doesn't teach the material well, take with vaney or kasahara if you can
Boring.But her exams are easy.
She is a very nice prof. She answers all the questions and gives the hints for hard ones. You need to study her notes which r very helpful for the exams. Some people may think her lecture is kinda boring but still lots of students attend the class:)
I don't get why people are complaining about her. She's very helpful, organized, and nice. Her lecture notes are very useful. Fair exams and assignments. If you think she's boring, I guess you're looking for an entertainer, not a professor.
Pros: Very helpful prof (probably the best prof i've had in terms of answering questions by email), excellent lecture notes that are easy to follow, reasonable marker. Cons: Nervous lecturer, boring at times, hard to inspire interest in the material. She's a very nice, smart lady who knows her stuff, but could work on being a more engaging speaker
Professor Whistler is smart and super nice. During office hours she will go all the way to help you answer the questions you may have. Must attend classes and do assignments!
Lectures are difficult to follow. The course is easy for people with a background in statistics. I don't have one and so I struggled. ASQ and Homework will *not* prepare you for exams on your own. I had to refer to the textbook and do practice problems to make it through. Would not recommend.
she provide very clear lecture notes, basically you dont need to go to class the notes which available online already covers everything.the midterm is VERY easy.for final,it is harder than the midterm,my advice is make sure your equation sheet covers every equation from notes.i strongly suggest to take the course:i put little effort on it and get A+
The problem with Diana Whistler is her obvious nervousness when she's lecturing, however this doesn't get in the way of her knowledge and enthusiasm for econometrics. I attended most of her classes, and I believe they definitely aren't a waste of time particularly since this math will be useful in the future! Btw I got an A+ in the class,
This course was quite easy, no matter who the professor was. Do your ASQ questions and read her notes will help you get an A easily! You even have no need to remember all the formulas since you will have your cheatsheet during your exams!
EASY class with/without a prof. She made the miterm and final really easy. I attended class but I daydreamed through most of the time coz it was boring. You can learn by yourself from her lecture slices,do the ASQ and you will get A.
GREAT PROFESSOR...I'm honestly surprised as to her other ratings. Her points are crystal clear and her exams are pretty straight forward. Her notes are all in order and clear cut. I honestly love how organized and helpful she is. Very easy to approach after class or during office hours and lenient with her grading. LOVED HER CLASS!!
Easy marker, just read the note and you will get at least a B or even higher.
Easy Course!!!
Diana gives all his notes on the website, and she will give more specific explanation of her notes. Once you have a problem with your homework or webwork, she will give you a pretty specific and clear explanation of the question as soon as possible. Work hard and you will get a good grade.
She can't teach, easy A, cheat sheets for midterm and final, better to stay home and self learn from her notes.
just read the notes by yourself at home is enough to get A or even A+. She can't teach but notes are very clear and easy to understand.
Study for the finals! I had a 100% with minimal effort, until the final... It really requires you to sit down and do your work.
Final exam is worth 65%, midterm was not hard, homework is easy, but I stumbled hard on the final.
She is super organized which made her course enjoyable. She is very helpful, and her lectures are pretty good if you can pay attention. I also find her adorable
