She is a great teacher and completely helpful! Shes very open with other opinions so you dont have to worry about getting a bad grade with a speech on touchy subjects. The class is always very close after the semester is over. its a great class and i will recomend it to everyone!!

Great teacher, take her if you can........she is the harder of the speech teachers I've heard, but she grades very fair, and I actually got pretty good at public speaking compared to the mess i was on the first speech.

Absolutely amazing! She made the class interesting and enjoyable. I was almost sad when the class ended. I've never had a difficult time with public speaking but she definitely helped me hone my skills and improve my skills!!! I highly recommend her. She is kind and understanding on top of being a phenomenal teacher!

Mrs. Auten is great! You do have to participate and put in effort, but she takes the scariness out of speech and makes it fun. I got good grades on my work, but missed some classes so my grade was lowered. I do recommend her highly though - you will have fun and it's easy if you let it be.

Mrs. Auten changed my life with this class. I learned how to communicate better in my intimate relationship, and it made such a huge difference in how happy I am and how much I understand my partner. She is very open and easy to understand. Plus, she gives great real-life examples and is open minded. One of the best classes I have ever taken.

you dont need the book eveything on the midterm is from ur notes and the final is take home. this class will change ur life if u are a shy person she is the teacher for u. by the end of the class u will be able to give a speech anywhere and wont be nervous.

Class is extremly easy if you put the work in. Only 6 speaking expersises ehich are 2-3 min speeches, and 2 big speeches which are 6-8 min. She is extremely helpful and kind. If your freakin out about taking 101 for the GE requirments don't be. She makes sure you have fun and change if your that shy non-outspoken person.

Fun class. Not a lot of homework just for the 2 big speeches which are not dreadful at all. No stressful final but more reflective. You will enjoy it even if u are shy.

She's a great teacher, she's a really good speaker and her lectures are entertaining. She's really bubbly and friendly, she answers your questions when you have them, she's clear about assignments and gives lots of examples, and she grades really fairly. This class was scary but fun!

i really enjoy this teacher, shes super nice & keeps the class interesting w/personal stories. at 1st the level of TMI was strange to me & a little weird but i got used to it. we laugh alot, the textbook is fun w/great info. diane is a little cheezy at times but she is a sweet genuine person, she plots out her lesson plans at a relaxed pace.

good class. good teacher, pretty funny. gives a power point review the day before the test. there is a few chances for extra credit. strongly consider taking 102 (small group communication) because your grade is very much dependent on other people as you will recieve an individual and group grade for speeches. wish i woulda taken spch 101 not 102

Don't hesitate to take any of her classes! She is funny and approachable. her test reviews are the most helpful of any teacher I've had, and you get a chance to earn a point or two to your test score. Most importantly she makes fantastic cookies!!!!!!!

Awesome class! Diane is an amazing teacher. This was the funnest class I took this semester. She does a review the day before the test, and there's a chance to get extra credit...AND COOKIES. Take 102 if you are super uncomfortable in front of people. Only downside is part of your grade is dependant on the group.

I was dreading taking public speaking. I even dropped it a few times with other teachers, but once I got into Diane's class, it all clicked. She not only made the class interesting, but (dare I say it?) I actually had FUN. Not a little fun, but a lot of fun. AND, you actually learn a TON. Wish I would have taken this class earlier.

This wasn't an easy class, but Diane was a great teacher. Very informative, and the more you learn about giving good speeches, the more you take note of the way she lectures. Very friendly, and made the class fun!

This is my easiest class and yet I'm learning the most from it.

I found this class to be very fun . the professor is very funny she relates her personal life (her family) to the lesson being taught so its easier to remember. CONS: you dont really use the book too much i dont think it is worth buying , she does not use black board so u have to email for grade which could be annoying after a while.

1st Tip: Don't get the textbook, you will never need it. You only need to get Diane's $6 packet of grade sheets in the bookstore. Diane is very sweet & awesome & will go out of her way to help you when you take the effort to talk to her at her office hours. Loved her lectures and enjoyed her personal stories. Best speech teacher!!!

This class was my absolute favorite one. I hate public speaking, but somehow she made it fun and easy for me. She is very good at what she does, only problem was that we never used the textbook. So glad that I took speech with her!

Really easy class. Please do not buy the text book, you only need the $6 packet at the bookstore. She's really funny, you can easily get an A in the class. Just do the outlines how she tells you to. Easy and fun class altogether. I highly recommend taking, also the tests are pretty easy, just be there for the lectures.

Auten is so genuine and sincere. You can tell that she loves teaching her class, and loves her students. I recommend her to everyone. She is so fun, bubbly, hilarious and she treats everyone equally. She is not an easy teacher though, she makes you work. She is not too hard. I think she is a perfect balance. DONT BUY THE BOOK FOR EITHER CLASS

Diane Auten is by far the best college professor I have ever had. She is so down to earth and funny. Her class is challenging in the sense you HAVE to be there. If you are not there you will not pass. Take her notes and you will pass the tests. Its a class with a lot of work regardless of who you take so you may as well take it with someone fun!

I took Auten for SPC 103 (Interpersonal Comm) online. Not only were the assignments super interesting, but she actually responded to my emails and gave me feedback on my papers. By far the best online teacher I have ever had hands down. You DEFINITLY need the book for this class, since it is online. Loved all of the articles that we got to read.

Excellent online instructors. One of the best I have ever taken. Very clear expectations. Assignments are due on a weekly basis, so don't take it if you can't keep up with weekly assignments. Although nervous at first about weekly due dates, it actually helped me stay on track. Responds to emails quickly. Fun and interesting course!

Great teacher for her subject. I hate giving speeches but i suppose she made it the best it could be. If i had to take another speech class it would be with her.

I loved this teacher. I was very confident in public speaking already, but she taught me a differnet way to present myself. She helped me organize myself and teach me the propper way to give a speech. She requires 2 big speeches, 5 small ones, and two exams. The 5 small speeches are about 2-3 minutes each and tells you exactly what is on the exams

Ms. Auten is a great teacher! She was straight to point with her instructions and her lectures were always humorous to listen to. You do need to do your assignments and take your speech exercises seriously - it'll help prepare for your two big speeches at the end of the semester!

Mrs. Auten is a wonderful instructor. She is extremely helpful when you need advice or help with material. Pay attention and do your best, and look for help when you need it and you'll be good. (I got a 'B' because I was lazy.) Chili Pepper is self-explanatory.

I had been going through some rough patches in my personal life when I took this class, Mrs. Auten's information and enthusiasm really helped me connect with the material and apply it to my own life. She is a fantastic teacher, and I regret having not taken more of her courses.

Really nice lady. She shares stories from her personal life that helped me connect with concepts in the textbook. She's funny and has a great laugh too. The atmosphere she created was relaxed and open yet informative and insightful. Anyone could take a turn asking questions or to just share. She's a good person too.

Had this professor for small group comm. She is simply one of the best professors a student can ask for. Very clear and makes learning what it should really be about. I seriously wish she could teach all subjects because she presents information in a way that most people understand. THE BEST!

Great online instructor. Assigns articles and videos that are actually genuinely interesting and connect well to the academic stuff we are reading in the book. Has clear expectations, gives good feedback if something is wrong with a paper, is flexible and open-minded, but still has high expectations. Best online instructor I have had.

I took SPCH 103 online to go towards my associates and I wouldn't hesitate to take more of her classes. Prof. Auten was SUPER helpful when I had questions and was very clear about what we had to do this semester. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have time to read, but if you do read the textbook it's an extremely easy and interesting class!

She is so amazing, I even considered changing my major to communication! She totally understands that getting up and talking in front of people can be scary. She actually teaches you methods to help with anxiety and tips about speech writing that are totally useful outside of class. You most likely need the text books to pass. She's super funny!!

Diane is great. She makes all assignments crystal clear. If you have a question or problem, she makes herself 100% available and responds promptly. The textbook is easy to understand and the articles and videos used are not only short and easy to readsit through, they actually are interesting and pertain to real life. Highly recommend.

Diane is an awesome instructor. She's aware that just about everyone dreads this class, which is a transfer requirement. Grading is fair; you won't be handed an A or even a B. Above all, have fun. Everyone else in the class is going through what you're going through. You will be well-prepared for the speeches. Best advice? GO TO CLASS.

If you are looking for an easy online class you can't go wrong here. Diane makes the class very personable. It helps that the subject is so applicable and interesting; I think it was the first text book I actually read completely. I wish it didn't have to end.

Super clear expectations, she does a great job building up intensity throughout the weeks. A little controlling, she just wants her students to have the best chance at success possible. Also too much group work. I understand she wants us to be comfortable with each other but I didn't sign up for group speech for a reason. All in all, great teacher.

This was my first time taking an online class and Mrs. Auten was an angel who guided me through this course. If you ask questions Mrs. Auten will respond quickly. She is such a sweet human being and we need more teachers like her in AHC. This class is hard but easy at the same time, as long as you turn in assignments on time you will pass.

I took Prof Auten for online SPC 110- Intercultural Communication. I liked how she set up the class- very clear and linear. There are weekly deadlines, the grading criteria is very clear, and she always gives feedback if she takes off points (so you know what to fix next time). She also grades very quickly, so you know how to improve. GREAT!!!

You can tell she cares a lot. If speech is scary to you (as it was for me), there are a TON of speeches to do - and in my opinion it doesn't really get easier. She wants you to never have anything memorized and also not to look down at your paper.. but I got the best scores when I memorized my speeches and pretended I was talking extemporaneously.

Diane is great. I've taken two classes with her and highly recommend her. She grades very easily. As long as you do the assigned papers (there are 2 page papers due every week) and the forum posts, you should have no problem getting an A. She's quick to respond to questions and emails and is very engaging online.

If you want to learn how to be able to be a good communicator you should take her class! She truly cares about your education and her class is really straight forward. Just do the work and you will have no problem and if you do have a problem she will help you.

A LOT of work, but very worth it in the end. I took it as an 8 week long online course so there was a lot of work in very little time. A paper every week along with Quizzes, Discussion Boards, etc. The book is VITAL. I learned a lot and am very proud. She is very passionate and caring, and open to suggestion. She cares about our education!

She is very intelligent and knowledgeable on the subject. Gave great feedback even though all assignments were submitted online. 10/10 would recommend !

Clear expectations and grading criteria. She gives great feedback and if you do the work, you will pass. I loved the setup of this online course and did not feel overwhelmed with homework despite being enrolled in 4 other classes. I learned a lot and felt engaged. This is one of my favorite classes and I loved her teaching style!

Diane was one of the best instructors I've ever had. Lectures are always interesting and made me want to attend class the entire time. Textbook is ESSENTIAL for her class. She does require for you to take quizzes and do homework, but easy if you do the reading and turn it in on time. Super understanding and caring, definitely recommend taking her!

It's an eight-week course so it can get intense, so get on top of everything. Have your textbook before class because you'll be using it on the first day of class. Diane is very fair, organized, and clear when grading. Always refers you to the syllabus or the instructional videos on Canvas.

She is super sweet and gives plenty of opportunity for you to learn the right way to do her assignments. Make sure not to miss speech days and to follow her prompts exactly and you will get a passing grade.

Diane Auten does a great job preparing you to succeed in her class. She understands how scary it is to speak in front of others and does a great job in coaching her students to be comfortable enough to give a speech in a public setting. Make sure to attend class and take notes because she tests you on things she discusses in class.

If you are afraid of public speaking, Diane is the teacher for you! She realizes that many students do not have a lot of experience with public speaking which made us all feel a lot more comfortable. She teaches great public speaking skills and tips that you will literally use for the rest of your life.

I took her spch103 online class. In all honesty, I found this class to be VERY easy. Directions are very clear, she gives great feedback on papers, and is very understandable of life circumstances. I also liked that she gives different options for different learning styles(videos, articles, podcasts). Very engaging considering it's a DL class.

I took prof Auten during the pandemic/ remote learning and our class happened in Zoom. She was so organized in this class- assignments were clear, there was lots of getting to know classmates, and she was efficient with our time in class. We gave 4 speeches live in Zoom and she randomly calls on you, which keeps you on your toes. I learned so much.

Mrs Auten is a very nice person. She grades assignments really quickly and responds to emails as quick as possible.

This professor is very professional. I took this as a 8 week zoom class and she is very clear on what to expect. She is good at communicating as she is a communications teacher lol and very easy to talk to! She does put your name on a stick and pulls it to call on you so you should have watched all of her lectures before class.

This was one of the first courses I took and it was a great introduction to college. She is very positive and encouraging, and she grades fairly. The directions on the assignments are straightforward and clear, and she keeps her class engaged. She teaches practical skills that you can use in everyday life.

I knew exactly what to expect each week and there were even chances to get ahead on work because modules for the next week opened earlier. I would 100% recommend taking this class!

Mrs. Auten overall was amazing! She sets you up for success in this course. If you need a SPCH class, I highly recommend taking this class with her. There were 3 main speeches and a couple short ones. 2 of the speeches were done by recording and submitting, the others were live on ZOOM. Watch short recorded lectures and stay on track with homework.

She is awesome and an easy - A if you don’t the work. Took her online 8 week class. Per week: Two chapters each week, quiz for each chapter, video reaction 2 page essay and discussion post with peer posts and that is each week.

Diane is a patient and observant teacher. I'm personally a shy person and quite anxious. I kid you not I was very scared every class but I was able to over come it. I felt very confident after my speeches. She honestly created a safe and amazing class environment. It would be a pleasure to take another class taught by her.

Diane gave out very interesting, thought-provoking assignments, and her class is the first class I took in which I read the entire textbook fully. Learning about different cultures was super interesting and her discussions and videos were very helpful materials. The class I took was fast-paced but very doable if you can keep up.

Grades speeches very reasonably. Midterm and final were not difficult. Understands that the students are taking this for GE and doesn't treat the class like its the most important thing in existence. Was a very pleasant experience.

I took a short 8-week class and there was work but she made it very doable. I was scared going in that I'd be overwhelmed and even though you are writing and taking quizzes for two chapters each week she gives options and doesn't make it long essays. Meet the requirements and put in effort you'll do good. Flashcards and free online textbook.

Great class. Great teacher. When you sign up, take note that it is an 8-week class (I think that is all she teaches- 8 week classes). I learned a lot, but 8 weeks is QUICK. 8-weeks is not for everybody, and you need to know your strengths and weaknesses as a student before you take an 8-week class. I realized 8-weeks was maybe too quick for me.

I took interpersonal and intercultural communications and it was so great in my opinion. The workload was super fair and if you love writing it'll even be easy for you potentially. The discussion boards and papers you had to write every week was fun and interesting to learn and write about. Highly recommend this professor and classes for anyone.

Since I took Public speaking during the last half of the spring semester, it was an 8 week class. But none the less, Diane is an amazing professor and she is super open to feedback, she totally understands that we aren't professional speakers and she is very great about making her students feel comfortable. You can tell she cares about the wellness of her students. Her focus is to make students into better public speakers. There's never any judgement in the room. She makes you feel confident. When giving feedback, she's very clear on where you went wrong and how you can fix it. All her homework/classwork have examples and outlines. 10/10 recommend
