The class was easy because her instructions are extremely clear. She grades fairly and she gives you every opportunity to get an A in the class. She's very likable and the class is fun. I recommend her.
She was so nice and very helpful. Actually a pretty fun class. A little extra time needs to be put into it, but not too bad. Be ready for her final, its a work, and you'll spend about 10 hours on it if you want the A in the class. If you are ok with a B, you'll be fine.
THIS LADY IS SO ANNOYING. SHE DOES NOT PAY ATTENTION TO ANY OF HER STUDENTS. SHE WON'T REMEMBER YOUR NAME AND IS EXREMELY UNHELPFUL.

She didn't prepare us for the final very well. The entire class up until then was teaching us how to follow directions, not how to think for ourselves.
Had to take it twice, terrible way of teaching.
Easy class, fun assignments. I'm not complaining, but the assignments r basically just your ability to follow directions properly, not how to figure out how to actually use the programs we work with. But if you want a very easy A, she's ur best bet. Very nice teacher also.
Very nice prof, although the final project seemed a bit too hard for a lower division class.
Fabulous! Diane Rocks! She's really flexible & tolerant..except for the assignment policy, in which you have to submit the assignments in the first ten minutes of class, every week. But trust me,it won't take you a long time to adapt. Her class is really enjoyable & fun!
Easy A for her class. Text are expensive but very easy to follow. Attendence isn't a problem factor as long the assignment is turn in somehow. Anyone can go to any lab from INT that she teaches. So help is always there.
I didn't see once, her TA's did the lecturing in this class. That was fine though since you don't even need to come to class or lab, just as long as you get your work done by the deadlines and you understand the material from the book, you're good. I recommend going to lab when you have a test coming up so you get the hang of the environment.
Makes you buy an overpriced printout of a book at alphagraphics that you HAVE to get because it has layouts needed for printing and if you lose them you're screwed. Assignments are easy because the text is step by step instruction, so you really don't learn the programs.
I kind of screwed myself on the tests but thats beside the point. You don't have to go the lectures at all except to turn in your homework. You don't have to go to lab except to do your exams (2 of them throughout the semester). You don't learn anything since everything is step by step. Might as well be an online class...
very clear, nice, easy
EASY CLASS. the text was really expensive but i still have it and use it when i want to use photoshop or illustrator, so it has its uses and was well worth the price. you dont have to go to lecture, since the book has all the instructions you need, but she's a fun easy going woman and her classes are quite interesting! loved the class.
Really easy class if you can understand written steps. Although the proff doesn't help one-on-one, the TAs can be of use. If you ever do need help, an e-mail is a great way and she will get right back to you.
Not a whole lot of playing room for personal creativity; whenever you complete a project you have to do it exactly as the book says, but the class was still a good experience. Diane's really clear about her expectations, and book instructions are easy to follow. Doesn't provide enough skills preparation for the final project though-it's a doozy.
took twice because the first time I didn't prepare myself for final. take over 20 hrs to complete, so do not leave it till last minute. besides that every other project is explained step by step which makes for a good grade. class is not mandatory, you just have to turn your project in within the first 10 minutes of class time then you can leave.
This class is not hard.. it is more along the lines of rediculous. The exams are hard since the assignments are step by step so you dont really learn how to do things... Bender is not a great teacher.. Good Luck
I never attended the lab or lecture. I just went to the labs on my free time and worked on projects through the book. the book is easy to understand, and if you go through each step you can finish all tutorials in about an hour, and two for projects. I have a 100% in this class, and have spent little time on it. Plus there is a lot of extra credit.
Awesome computer basics course. Attendance is not mandatory but I went to most lectures to pick up pointers--which she gives out liberally. She's enthusiastic, passionate and knowledgeable. Allow yourself ample time for the final (2-4 wks.) if you wish to earn an A+. Definitely recommend this class.
She writes the overpriced book and just puts step-by-step instructions - you don't learn anything! You don't work at computers in her class, only in lab afterward, so you can't follow along on computers unless you bring your own.
Good class. Book was expensive but assignments were easy enough and attendance is not required at all. If you work hard on tutorials and projects, & do the extra credit you can blow off the final and still get an A! Sometimes its boring but is worth it for such an easy grade
I never went to a single lecture - attendance is not mandatory except to turn assignments in. You can also attend any lab section you want. The TA's are more help than Bender - you won't get much assistance in this class. Work is straight from the book and can be confusing if you have no experience with the programs. Be sure to do the extra credit.
Not a bad class, though you can blow off pretty much every lecture. The text book was expensive for what it was. Instructions for last project were a little confusing. After several hours of work and a comment from a TA saying my final project looked like I knew more about FormZ than she did, I still barely got a B on it.
Easy class. Everything was in the text book. In the lecture she went over the problems we might encounter, and most of the time we did encounter the problems discussed in lecture.
Great class
Only have to attend lecture to turn in assignments. Get things done ahead of time, if you're more than 10 minutes late to class she will not accept your project, nor will she reason with you and accept any late work whatsoever. The book is ridiculously expensive, and the class has the potential to be fun but is pretty mundane overall.
Very entry level class. Assignments are strait forward. Follow the directions step-by-step and you should easily pass. Attendance is not mandatory. Late Homework not accepted. One "crash card" per semester. The book was expensive but I have used it as a reference "countless times" in my higher level courses. Unsure why FormZ is still taught?
Tutorials & Projects were well explained except Form Z. I spent more than 20 hrs on Form Z assignments & they were awful. The book does not explain these clearly. Work ahead so that you have plenty of labs to ask questions. 1 late tutorial accepted. Lectures not required. Some of the lab TA's didn't know software. Interaction w/prof is very rare.
Professor Bender is a greattt professor! She is so nice and you can tell that she loves what she does!! I did attend her lectures even though they are not mandatory, and she went through every step of the projects. The book tells you too what you need to do. Nothing was too difficult, and every assignment was fun. I definitely recommend this class!
Great class! Textbook is mandatory, as it has step by step directions for the tutorials and assignments. She is willing to meet with you and provide assistance if you need. Very friendly! Make time for the FormZ tutorial and project.. it's difficult; attend labs for help, very beneficial!
EXCELLENT teacher for both this class and the CAD class! Very clear and precise about everything! There's really no surprises, and as long as you do your work, it's a really easy A. I don't really blame her for FormZ being hard - it's just a terrible program, but she did a great job either way.
The class itself isn't too hard. The textbook is a joke. You have cover sheets that if you lose, you have to pay $88 for replacement. No one goes to class because she just covers what's in the book. Pretty easy A, but the whole textbook thing makes everyone mad. Also, the last project takes way too much time for the few points you get. Not great.
Is helpful in that she'll send emails to correct her textbook mistakes and gives reminders. Other than that, you'll never see her. Lectures are not necessary to attend. Fairly easy A, although Google Sketchup is hard. I agree with the others and say the textbook costs way too much and the paper sheets are kind of unfair. Not my favorite professor.
just turn in your assignments on time and this class will be easy.. if you have trouble with anything.. go to the labs.. but the computers suck. if you are a design major.. just buy the adobe suite because it will be worth it
Probably my easiest class this semester. If you do the work, you will pass. I can't say I know a lot about Bender herself. Textbook was thorough, but not the best. It is written by her, but I honestly think my high school one was better.
Lecture and lab are not mandatory I never went to lecture but went to all of the labs even the ones that were not assigned to me. I completed homework in there and the TA's were very helpful. If you do the work you WILL get an A+ but it can be time consuming don't wait until last minute
She is one of the most frustrating teacher I have ever had. Her lectures are not mandatory, but even if they are they are still not helpful for the projects she gives out. This course is based on her very expensive textbook. She has the absolute most annoying and unfair grading system ever.
Diane is a great teacher, don't be freaked by doing the assignments on your own there are a plethra of people around to help you at all times of the week. Her written book is crystal clear, I am not tech/computer savvy and understood perfectly. You will have fun in this class and get to be pretty creative.
don't need to go to lectures. don't wait until last minute to do the projects, there is plenty of help during lab times if you are confused on how to work the programs. Easy and fun class, def recommend
Freshman year you'll think her classes are the easiest thing ever. When you leave this class you'll realize you don't know ANYTHING about Photoshop, Illustrator, or CAD.
I got an A+ in her 121 class and a C+ in 123. It's ridiculous. The programs in 123 are difficult to begin with and her dumb, expensive book is not helpful. The grade in this class KILLED my GPA and I'm a straight A student. Enough said.
Easy class, more like a nuisance, but lectures are useless, no one goes to them, or the labs; about 90% of the lecture hall is empty, and absolutely no one goes to the labs. Her expensive textbook is stupid, but it's all you need to do the tacky and pointless tutorials. You don't need this class to learn about photoshop.
This class is easy, every single project we have is clearly laid out in her textbook. Lectures and labs arent required. sketch up is a ridiculous program that we have to "learn". The projects and tutorials are silly and unhelpful. I learned more in my other design classes that arent even computer based. But do everything on time and its an easy A.
You have to buy her textbook to do the class, which is annoyingly expensive. Otherwise an easy A+. Just follow the steps in the book, and you don't even have to attend class. And no one does as far as I can tell. If you are a design major, her projects WILL make you die inside though, as she forces you to make ugly work for the sake of "learning".
She's a good teacher. I didn't go to class, waited last minute for projects (don't do it) and got an A.
Prof. Bender is great and cares that we learn the material. This is an introductory course so it's easy to understand if you don't know the software. I knew a little and still learned some new things. Grading is fair and you get grades back really fast. There are many assignments so even if you miss one, you still can do really well in the class.
I actually liked the lectures cuz she talked about working in industry with clients a lot; straight-forward asmts and grading; used every page of the course book
This class was wonderful! Prof. Bender let us decide whether we came to lecture or not. She also let us get ahead and her instruction book was very clear. Her tutorials and projects helped me learn useful skills and they weren't exceedingly hard. I would definitely recommend this class!
The entire class is out of the book, the book however is WAY too pricey. Its a $90 book that she created herself. The class seems to revolve around buying her products so she can make money. The content however is good, just keep up. Don't procrastinate especially on the last project. I never attended lectures once and still got an A.
Personally, I'm glad Professor Bender wrote her own course book. It covered 4 different softwares. she boiled it down to what is most useful so you didn't waste time learning something you won't use later. I've already used what I learned in other classes. the book is 200 pages in color with tons of pictures; very helpful. I'm keeping that book.
This is a great and easy class. I attended every lecture because I am a visual learner. $90 Book was needed for every part of the class. Highest points possible in the class is 120. I received an A on every tutorial. Do extra credit just in case. Because I received an A, I'm a TA for one of her labs. Success starts when you attend the lectures.
Lectures and labs are optional, which is great! Although I never attended a lecture, I learned more in this course than any of my others. I would definitely recommend this class!
Prof. Bender is super cool. Lectures are optional but if you do stay she notices. She cracks mom jokes and is super corny but I love it. She is awesome and even if you don't attend lecture everything you need to know is in the $90 class manual.
Easiest class I've ever taken in my life. She was nice and didn't require attendance. Only reason to go to lectures is to hand in assignments- which I always had my friend do for me so I only attended about 2 lectures. Assignments are shown step by step in the textbook; all you have to do is copy it. Sometimes were long but not difficult at all.
Each of the projects took an hour or two to complete. Her book, which consists of all the instructions and assignments sheets, is a requirement for this class, $90. There were 8 tutorials, 10 points each, and a final project, 20 points. There is extra credit offered as well, 10 points. As long as you do your work correctly, easy A!
Seriously the easiest A ever. You buy her book for $80 and follow step-by-step instructions for each of the 8 tutorials, each worth 10 pts & then a final project, worth 20 pts. There's also extra credit for 10 pts, so if you do everything correctly, it's possible to end the class with a 110/100. I spent MAYBE 3 hrs/week on this class, so easy.
Step by step instructions through the whole class until the final project where suddenly the difficulty triples and you feel overwhelmed.
I never showed up to this class. I only showed up on the first day and to turn in my assignments at the beginning of class and to my assigned lab time to turn in my final at the end of the semester. The final project was pretty hard at first and buying her book was annoying but other then that its an easy A class. If you don't get an A... hm
Buy the book and youll never have to go to a lecture besides to turn something in!
intro to compr desgn class. one a week lectures, and labs you can go to if needed. you have to buy a book. its an incredibly detailed book on how to do each asgnm. with that and labs, if you put in the work you will get an A. its just TIME consuming. and you have to turn your asgnm. in the first 10 minutes, if not use your 1 crash card.
Bender is a helpful and caring professor. All assignments are step-by-step completed in the textbook, until the final project. For this class, I received 100% on all assignments (plus extra credit) so I could receive a 19/30 on the final, and still received over 100% . Don't put off your grade for the final, it is brutal. Start the class strong.
used to be a good professor until quarantine started. stopped caring as much for students, does not really care for the circumstances other people are in. good at lectures.
I only met Diane a few times during the semester, but loved her in class. You can tell she cares about the success in her students! This course can be done with only going to lecture to turn in assignments, the labs are optional if you need additional help. Overall enjoyed this course and I would take it again!
Her quizzes are just to make sure you paid attention during lecture, things like 'what color are my glasses', even though if you buy her book they tell you everything the lectures can. Luckily they are not worth many points. Both together are not necessary. Still, the book outlines everything for assignments, makes them very easy to finish.
This is the worst course I've ever taken. This is a project heavy class but the instructions are in a separate textbook that the prof. wrote (and has you buy outside of the campus bookstore); however the instructions are unclear and the grading has no set standard. Everyone I know in this class either dropped it like I did or they failed. BEWARE!!!
All grading standards are listed in a clear rubric and is fair. If you don't do something in the assignment, you just wont get the point for that piece. TA's are helpful and you will probably have more contact with them as apposed to Dr. Bender. TA's have multiple labs a day. Overall a good and simple class, just don't get behind!!!
Diane is very kind and does a majority of the work for you in her lectures. You have 2 weeks to do each assignment and they each take about 5 hours. A majority of the bad reviews are from the students who waited the day before to do it. Expect to fail if you do not actually do your work. She does a 1 question quiz on each lecture, easy points.
Honestly this class was extremely difficult. So many projects and so little direction. Her lecture videos weren't helpful and the textbook was too intense and took way too long to read. This class is very hard so I would suggest not procrastinating. She is also an extremely difficult grader
Diane breaks her back a lot, so a lot of lectures were moved online. This class ain't easy, your final exam has nothing to do with what you learned all year, which is unfortunate. So grab the tissues, and the stretcher, because you are in for a rough ride. Her lectures were fine, just felt unrelated by the end of the class.
Fantastic class, I didn't come to lectures because I understood the online assignment requirements. This teacher has a PDF that students buy, which lists all the projects and step by step guides of how to do them. I already knew how to use photoshop but these projects were a great way to learn the basics of other adobe programs. 10/10 fun and easy
The fact that Ms. Diane charges her students for a textbook written herself- that is NEEDED to complete each assignment is messed up. Its literally charging for class instructions. I also dont like her attitude, shes not one willing to work or help her students, the TAs do everything.
For INT121, she makes you download/buy a textbook which she made but it is actually just instructions on how to each assignment. There is a lecture and lab as well, but no one usually attends because they are no help. She was on medical leave for a whole month and expects us to teach ourselves how to use photoshop, InDesign, SketchUp, etc.
Bender makes you download and buy her online pdf textbook which is simply just her written instructions to all the assignments. All of the assignments are on ADOBE software. And as someone who has NEVER touched these before it was hard and her instructions didn't help. I had someone with experience help me and even they were upset with the book.
She tried to fail me even though I did an assignment. Her textbook that she requires us to download is only in the perspective of a windows computer so good luck if you have a mac, it's not easy. The work is incredibly stressful at times and takes soooo long to get done.
I took this class for credit and went in knowing a lot of the programs ahead of time. You have to buy her textbook which is filled with instructions that make absolutely zero sense and do not actually teach you the programs effectively. If you have to take this class, you will have to teach yourself a lot of the programs on your own.
I LOVED Prof Bender (INT 121/123) and thought she was more than fair. Best with windows, ask prof for specs! Lectures/labs aren't mandatory but help when you get stuck. Projects due every 2 weeks with clear step-by-step instructions. Try not to do them last minute but doable in 5-10 hours and even if you miss a due date, submit a free late pass!
Professor bender is great but the TAs not so much. They grade the projects and when she graded one of the last ones she actually explained what I got off for. I wish the TAs grades were checked beforehand. We used the presenting check and they never told us the things wrong until we got graded which was irritating but she was great.
I've only gone to lecture once and have never gone to lab and got an A+. Her class essentially is all on a pdf textbook she has you buy (Proffesor capitalizing off students) but its only $20 and it can be very direct. however, the ending project with sketchup was very "just do it" and I had to help A LOT of people who struggled with the software.
She tried to fail me because of a tech issue about the last project not being "viewable" at the day of grading when I had submitted it 2 weeks EARLY. She has a textbook that you need to buy and you just follow the instructions on how to complete the assignments, they're step-by-step. It's easiest if you have a non Mac computer. Didn't like her.
Charges you 20 DOLLARS for a PDF of HER textbook. That's how you learn to COMPUTER MODEL. Lectures? Don't come to them! She tells you not to herself! Because she knows she just yaps about nothing the whole time! Oh, and her textbook is Windows instructions only. Got a Mac? Good luck! You're on your own.
She is a nice person, TAs do not really give help and the textbook is way too complicated. AutoCAD is actually easy with video but I don't think is worth taking her class. And she NEVER REPLYED ANY OF MY EMAILS. I followed what she exactly asked me to do for the hw and the TA just graded with delusion. No one replies any of the students' emails.
makes everyone pay 20 bucks for a PDF of her textbook.. that u absolutely need for the course. some random lectures on irrelevant things are provided in canvas. attendance isn't mandatory bcz she knows shes not acc teaching anything.textbook is just in detail step by step directions for each project (all being over 100 steps). it was all j annoying
took for credit. the first 3 assignments were alr, but the transition from assignment 3 to 4 was insane. sketch up is extremely annoying to use but the grading is lenient. also if u have a mac ur kinda on ur own. rip to all my mac users 😔✊
I rated her a 2 and not a 1 because she offered extra credit at the end of the semester that saved my grade. Other than that the lectures were painfully boring then half way through the semester she turned the class over to her TA and cancelled the rest of the lectures. I was pretty much on my own especially as a Mac user.
She's shows up for lecture less than one third of the semester and you learn a whole lot of nothing. You learn more from the “textbook” she makes u buy that she wrote. Assignments arent difficult and if they are to u the ta's were pretty helpful. I just did not like the professor at all, shes literally useless
She doesn't make you go to lectures (don't go they're lowkey pointless), and she'll tell you exactly why you got the grade you got so the class isn't too hard. But GIVE YOURSELF TIME! Because she won't accept any late work no matter the excuse. And if you have a Mac save yourself some trouble and use the computer lab or coor hall.
