Reads the slides/text to students, poor time management, not helpful, not a whole lot of actual teaching going on
She teaches like a high school history teacher, it's obvious that she is fresh from college herself. Class consist of lecture, a few activities, and some homework assignments. I had an easy time learning, as long as I read the slides she posts online.
I really enjoyed this class and the teacher. If you come to class and do the homework it is easy to pass. I am not sure exactly what people expect from professors but she has been one of my better ones here at EVCC.
Well Diane is a delightful teacher! She makes her class hard and reading off the slides is sometimes tough to follow. I learned allot. and she always has extra credit available on tests. My advice is to print off the outlines of her slides and write on that.. she goes to fast to write EVERYTHING down. Study for tests. She is a good teacher!
Read the text and you will be fine. Great teacher
Great instructor! Last time I took Psych was over five years ago. I was able to learn as if I had just taken intro to psych. She tells you what she expects from you. Attendance is not mandatory, but you need to be there to get extra credit points. Great class, I learned a lot. If you study for the midterm and final, passing is super easy!
Great teacher, but she does grade fairly hard. One writing assignment per week, and online quizzes. Mid-terms and finals are tough if you don't keep up with the lectures. Totally loved her teaching style and moved on to take the next class she offered.
Dr. Brown uses a discussion board (for her online classes) to answer questions about assignments but most students rely on their classmates to get answers because she doesn't always check the posts on there. The assignments can be tedious and confusing at times. There are usually 2-3 assignments and a quiz each week.
Is a really great teacher. Her grading is fairly hard, and her exams are pretty hard unless you can give her word for word what she is looking for. But she is genuine and cares if your learning or not. I would take another class from her.
I really enjoyed this class, she is a tough teacher but as long as you keep up with your reading and do all the assignments you will be fine. The only paper she asks you to write seems like it will be hard but it was so easy, i got 100% percent and im usually not an A student. I recommend this teacher to anyone.
Good lecture style and fun to listen to her stories. Class required a lot of studying for me but that's different for everyone. I enjoyed her teaching style and would take her class again.
I had nnever taken a class that actually required studying outside of class, but i used the study guide and recieved A's on all the quizes. She is a great teacher, she's fun and easy to understand. I would reccomend her to anyone. The tests weren't as hard as i expected them to be. If you keep up with the work its no big deal.
I took Life-Span Psychology online with Dr. Brown and it was OK. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. She gives a ton of reading and many writing assignments, but it is an online class. Assignments are clear and she makes sure to give reminders about what is due each week. Text book is a must for this class.
She tries to cram way too much onto a mall amount of time. Other than that I enjoyed her class.
I found this teacher frustrating. I was in the online Lifespan class and by the time I finished up I had to visit her 5 times in person. She was well aware that the textbook was awful and despite that, tested us using the book company's tests! I have never sunk so much time into any class. You read EVERYTHING, and you don?t learn, you regurgitate.
I just got done taking her class online. She seems like a nice teacher and doesnt grade too hard. The only thing is you have to read and remember everything from the text book. her tests are hard but thank god she only has 3. We do have weekly tests but they arent too bad. Overall I thought she was a pretty good teacher.
For an online instructor, I enjoyed her best. I found her class to be interesting. She interacts with her class a lot, and is a fair grader. Get a head start on your reading!!
Make sure you have time to read all the material. Her tests are online and the questions are very specific. Her classes are interesting and there's a lot of interaction. Just study a lot so you do well on the tests.
She was a pretty good teacher, I just didn't like her straying off topic or using bad examples, but my best friend loved her and she just wasn't my cup of tea.
Had her twice. In person, simply reads slides to class. Online, expects students to memorize book. No critical thinking. Not a whole lot of learning either.
She gets everything from the books and just reads off the slides during class. The few assignments that aren't straight from the book take way too long for a measly amount of points. I only used my book to look up stuff for the quizzes and fill out the study guides for exams. She's also a bit condescending.
At first, she seemed a little abrasive. However, if you read the syllabus and course material, and follow directions, she is very nice. Respect her time. Class time is fun and interesting. I am taking her for psych 200 and looking forward to it.
Dr. Brown's online Lifespan class was needed to complete degree. I had her for my Psych 100 so I went with her. You have to put alot of reading time in because you are tested from the chapters. Her online discussions were easy when I had the desire to chat about it with others. Its a great class really!
She is a nice person overall, but I didnt retain anything I learned in that class, which made it hard to do tests, which lead me to having to take it again. Also, if you take Psych 200 you have to write a one page paper every week and do a test and assignment that is due every week as well. Honestly I didnt learn much.
This class was HARD for me. 1 page paper (double spaced) required, as well as timed test every week. Material was very fast paced, and required to memorize a lot of things I'm not convinced I'll ever need agian. Great teacher though, easy to communicate with, friendly, and clearly answers questions. Too critical on papers, it's not english class!
very fun class!! Her lectures were funny when she would talk about stories that would relate to the current unit. You can tell she really likes psychology too. This class is plain and simple: -go to class everyday, -do the assignments EARLY, read the chapter in the book, take the quizzes each week. it really isn't a hassle at all. totally recommend
Thinks she's very funny, haha. Lectures were interesting, but quizzes are entirely based on book. Flash cards were a must for her class, she seemed annoyed whenever I tried to talk to her after class.
Diane's obviously very passionate about psychology, but I would hope to see her present the material in a more engaging way. She reads off powerpoints and shows some videos mainly. Tests on textbook material every week (online), as well as relatively easy small assignments. Attendance points every class. Overall this class was good, but not great.
Very good teacher and the class is relatively easy to manage if you listen and take notes and do the online homework. She tries to make the class a little more entertaining with stories and videos so it's not just all notes, really enjoyed the class!
She is not a horrible teacher but she is a bit arrogant and gets mad if you have to leave class early or if people pack up early and sometimes keeps everyone after class. You NEED to read the book if you want to have a good grade in this class. Contrary to popular opinion, she just wasn't the best teacher for me.
Not "instructor material". Didn't have a very good teaching method, or a consistent grading policy, like how many point missed for answers etc. Had short answers on tests, but didn't give adequate time to finish.
This course was tough! I did well on the weekly tests, homework, discussions & paper, but bombed on the finals. She grades heavily on the essay questions that are VERY long and involved answers. Take this course in class or with another instructor. Not online! Too many concepts and theories to understand via online.
Diane is definitely a hard grader, but it's easy to quickly get the hang of things. Discussion boards should be involved and provide intelligent posts. Reading the book will help you for quizzes a lot more than skimming while taking the quiz. As long as you follow instructions well and have self discipline for online course, you'll be fine.
VERY distant and impersonal when it comes to actually 'teaching' the online class. The exams, quizzes, and even the final's questions are from an online bank. They are NOT her questions, they are someone else's. Some questions's answers were horribly wrong. Do NOT take this class; it feels as if Diane WANTS you to fail then actually learn
Very very distant and not helpful at all. Started out the qaurter by telling us that no one ever passes with higher then C and I would never take her again! She is not there to help you if you have issues. Its a hybrid class and all she did was do her slide show and had little to no discussion.
she is confusing to have, she uses powerpoint during class, along with an occasional discussion, and some "games" that go along with the lecture, the tests require both attendance to class and reading the text. She For her 240 class you write a one page paper a week, that is neither a paper, or the labeled critical thinking report. Not a big fan.
She was arrogant and not very helpful. A lot of the online quizzes weren't clear questions. She would be pissed if people left class or packed up early. I thought it was college, not high school. Apparently not. Overall, the class is fairly easy if you study.
Great teacher, fun lectures easy to understand material.
Uses iCLicker, if you use the bathroom and miss a class question it can hurt your attendance grade fast! So many tests. She makes her own questions that are so long and confusing by the end your brain feels scrambled. 20 questions 20 min. ALOT of assignments. Made my hate psyc, learning to relove it. Nightmare.
Decently easy class. I slacked off and got a "C". The assignments aren't hard, so you can definitely get an "A".
She's not a good teacher who works off the power points and still digresses. There isn't much points you can earn in the quarter so if you miss class or an assignment, it'll hurt your grade immensely. It was hard to pay attention in class because it's long and she doesn't make the material exciting or memorable.
The material isn't hard but requires memorization. Read the entire chapter, take active notes from the slideshows and her lecture. She's good at reiterating the material in a new way and answers questions clearly. All I had to do was show up to class 4 hours a week, take notes, read the book, and tests were a breeze. I'm usually not great at tests.
She's a really funny teacher and regularly engages the class in lecture. She is big on using media and videos so it isn't like you sit there and listen to her blab for a long period of time. I wasn't a bit fan of psych in general but she did a really good job of explaining everything well. Studying was minimal.
TAKE HER ONLINE I REPEAT TAKE HER ONLINE. All the test are online and all the answers can be found word-for-word on quizlet. SUPER EASY. Don't know what she's like in person, only had her online. Seemed pretty nice though. Participate in discussions, take quizzes and test and you'll pass with flying colors.
Difficult expectations
Everything was due usually on the same day and most things were easy. Unfortunately there were many downsides including very rude in her feedback, not clear on assignments, no extra credit, too many quizzes and a lot of reading.
The information didn't flow and the lectures were poor. You couldn't hear student feedback. The study guides were too packed and barely helpful. A 100 level class had a C+ average at the end.
Class was really interesting and she has fun stories to keep you engaged. I took an honors class, and it was A LOT of work. We wrote an essay once a week and tested every Sunday. It was a good class but be ready to work for your grade.
I liked Diane overall; however, you've really got to work for an "A". I would take her again. She is quick to replying to messages, and her weekly schedule is clearly written. She makes you work for a good grade, but you really do get to learn so much.
So I really like the way she teaches the class and how she does things. With that being said, she is incredibly rude and not understanding at all. She says these comments where all the students just look at each other like "did she really just say that?" It's a bummer because if she was respectful I would absolutely give this class a solid 5.
Dr. Brown tells it like it is and is genuinely trying to help students learn, so I think it is funny when people write comments on here about her that are more about themselves. If you show up and DO all the work you shouldn't have a problem. We got to drop lowest quiz and lowest paper.
This was an amazing class. Diane has high expectations so don't go in thinking it will be easy. Once you see how things are organizaed online it is very clear to follow. Class was straightforward and we had some meaningful discussions I learned a lot.
You are going to have to WORK but you will learn a lot. No, she doesn't give A's- (no professor should be giving you anything) you have to earn it. Go beyond the minimum, make that extra effort, it will pay off in the end. Ask her anything, and she will get right back to you.
Diane is a great teacher and she cares about her students. The class however, was not that enjoyable and seemed like we were trying to cover too much work in a short amount of time.
If you want to save your GPA from drowning, don't take this prof. She is a very intense grader, and has papers due almost every week. She's kinda bias and is very opinionated. Her test is not even what lectures, its based on the book. Quizzes every week, don't go off the tab she knows when you leave the page, and gets icky about it.
So many papers! You must attend class unless you want your grade to go down. She is also rude with her feedback. Will never take another class with her again.
Online. Be sure to not skip any readings and you'll be fine. Even though you can find the answers to the study questions on quizlet, you can't look answers up during tests because you have to use lockdown browser. Participate in discussions actively too
Great 100 level class. Assignments were interesting but not graded hard; just don't skip any. The text, lectures, and additional materials online all were geared toward what we were tested on. Highly recommended instructor!
Dr. Brown seemed like a good teacher. I took her PSYC100 online. Her class wasn't terribly hard but I withdrew from my only on campus class and totally slacked off on all other studying and assignments for my online classes so my grade suffered. Lesson learned. Keep up with her assignments and studying and you should do fine.
Dr. Brown is a great professor. Her lectures were very informative, and by no means boring. I would estimate it's about a 65/35 course; by this I mean 65% of your grade will come from the lectures, and the other 35% from the text, as she doesn't speak on a lot that is tested. Show up and read for a relatively easy and informative course.
Dr. Brown is a great professor. I absolutely learned something new every class. It spiked my interest in psychology and now I am changing my major.
She is very condescending and rude. I asked a simple question and she replied like was a stupid child. I would not recommend her for anyone. Her tests and quizzes are designed to confuse you and you have little time to take them. She may be a psych prof but she isn't god and she has quite the god complex.
She is a very passionate professor which makes her class fun to be a part of. I did a hybrid version so I only went to lectures two days a week. She is NOT an easy grader but a lot is based purely on participation. She gives her tests differently than most professors. You take it alone, and again with a partner. I'm excited for her Spring class!
I found Dr. Brown to be one of the best professors I have encountered at this college. She provides lengthy personalized feedback on written papers, she is available at any point with her available office hours. The lectures were my favorite part, I learned valuable information from each that kept me interested. She actual cares, a rare feature.
The professor is very hard at grading and gives a heavy reading load. Reading is not just from the textbook but loads you up on articles and videos as well. She gives you typically one minute per question on tests to answer. Her grading is extreme with no room for error or corrections. Yes, this is a college level course but everyone makes simple m
She can be pretty challenging, but it's nothing too crazy. If you can handle some feminist rants and a few hours of reading per week, this professor would be great for you.
I took this class thinking it was going to be easy but it was actually a lot more difficult that I thought. A lot of homework. I took this class online but she was interactive online with us and got back to an email in a timely manner.
understanding and entertaining
She is a good teacher and has some really interesting g topics but she is extremely harsh on grammar, citations. When she gives her feedback it seems a lot more condescending and rude then helpful. I would definitely take a psych class with someone else
She has her days. Just study and youll be fine!
I'm not sure why she has such a bad rep on here. Sure, the lectures could be boring and the textbook sometimes felt like it would never end, but overall I had a great experience in her class and I feel like I've learned something meaningful for once. All exams were multiple choice and relatively easy if you spend the time studying. I had a 98%.
She is not a good teacher by any means, she does not clarify why she gave you a bad score. She is also really rude when it comes to responses. I would never recommend this professor to any student. Stay away from this course.
Very nice woman, lots of homework but very easy. Great class to take!
She was a nice and funny person but did seem a little condescending in her feedback. I thought this class was very interesting. I thought the recorded lectures from previous years she gave us was very helpful. If you study, read, and participate in discussions then you should be fine.
I have taken 3 psychology classes with Dr. Brown, and I have been very pleased with her each time. There is a manageable amount of work that all relates very closely to the lecture content.
Prof. Myers was a great teacher who gave great feedback on our biweekly discussion boards. This class had a pretty easy homework load, with the same type of work almost every week. I really appreciated the amount of work and the way it worked, it really helped me learn psychology better. Highly recommend this class and teacher!
Tenure-tracked Diane is one of those professors that treats her students like complete weasels. I've never had a more disappointing, condescending, and pretentious instructor before. Ungodly amounts of reading and activity. Most other online classes you can get away with showing up, using quizlet, and acing exams. But this one is different. Run.
I didn't like this teacher at all! One assignment was worth lots of points, and for me was an A or B grade situation. We had many canvas errors reported, I was graded on the canvas error, she wasn't willing to work with me, while trying to fight for my grade, she told me "I think you should let it go. Good luck on the final!" WORST TEACHER EVER
Dr. Brown is a great teacher, she loves psychology. There was lots of homework but it was all interesting to learn. The discussions are fun, and she gives great feedback. Always remember to cite in APA format with Dr. Brown.
Most unhelpful instructor! I love psychology however, this instructor was something else. So very rude. Reached out for help and always got a snarky response. No makeup test or assignment. Exams are 60mins with over 60 questions. Beware !!
Material and expectations made clear and informative feedback given. Follow instructions explicitly as points are deducted for any steps missing, bonus points awarded for going above and beyond.
Dr. Brown's class was not for me. If you can memorize a ton of definitions and absorb text books this would be fine. I found the textbook material interesting, but the cool statistics are not what you need to remember. The homework portion is very easy but the tests are not similar to the homework. She grades tough on discussion boards as well.
I took PSYCH100 a few Quart's ago.I will say that she's tough, w/ good intention. The class is challenging if you're not familiar w/ the format. She will help if you ask, provides study methods to help you learn,is transparent in her expectations.Which is for you to learn, not recite or rely on looking up info.Exam timing reflects that.Great teacher!
Diane Brown was an amazing Psychology professor. She always gave great feedback, and the discussion forums were very engaging (you can also earn extra credit through these!). Few things to note: The text is heavy, so be prepared to read a lot and TAKE NOTES. Anyways, I can't wait to take another one of Diane's courses!
Dr. Brown has clear instruction for every assignment, just follow her rubric, STUDY and make sure to participate in discussion post to the best of your ability. Take detailed notes, they will save you during exams. You can retake quizzes until you get 100% to really retain the material, so take advantage!
Teacher is not forgiving at all. Was having a hard time understanding the concept and did told her before hand that English is not my second language but have been receiving back to back low grades.
There was a lot of reading in this course however, I did enjoy the online textbook program that it was on. I think the interactiveness and the style made it easier. The course material was interesting. I think that this class was not amazing but not terrible. You learn a lot!
reading gets to be a lot so you have to stay on top of it, her in person class is long & feels long but super helpful if you haven't done the reading related to the assignment. Her exams are based off the reading in the textbook so just read and you will be fine. Overall I really liked her class and how she teaches! I would def take her again :)
Everything is really clear based on the instructions, as long as you do proper APA citations and in-text citations, you'll be good. You can retake the weekly quizzes as much as you want, and the assignments were interesting and relevant to real life. Exams were slightly difficult, but if you follow the study guides, you'll do fine.
I took this class online and got a good grade, but Diane Brown did not make this class enjoyable. She responds to your questions in way that sounds arrogant- as if she's smarter/better than you. She is simply not compassionate and comes off as abrasive. She may know her subject, but her teaching approach is completely ineffective and demoralizing!
This class was very difficult. I spent so much time reading and doing the weekly quizzes, and the group project at the very end of the quarter was by far the worst experience in this class. She grades VERY harshly. Her teaching is okay, but know what you're getting into and don't think it'll be easy at all.
LOTS OF DISCUSSION BOARDS that are very in depth and take a ton of time to complete. It's like writing a research paper once a week. Her criteria is somewhat clear, but if you have questions good luck getting them clarified. I think she knows her stuff, but to be teaching an entry level class to psych she can come off condescending.
Overall pretty solid experience with Dr. Brown. She does offer extra credit however it does require an in person event which means if you work a day job you can't get that. Be ready to read but the assignments and discussion boards help you apply what you are learning. Excellent feedback, she wants to see you do well. Just put in some solid effort.
She was ok, I feel like the criteria for the discussions were kind of vague. She also mistakenly graded me for plagiarism and took two weeks to respond.
Dr. Brown had very vague assignments, and I had to make my own rubric for projects worth a lot. She gets off topic for long periods. Class often ends, and she hadn't even finished her slides. I didn't learn anything new in her class, and it was frustrating to have vague, unhelpful lessons. The class felt like a waste of my money and time.
Not a fan.
Dr Diane Brown uses her knowledge in psychology to try and make students hate life so much that they want to drop out. Her assingments are vague and she assigned a textbook that was nearly impossible to get and gave me crazy attitude when I asked her about it. Insanely rude professor and an incredibly poorly laid out course
Do not take a class with her. I tried to email her multiple times for help, and she was either rude, or just told me it was in canvas (it was not). So many papers and long discussions, and she doesn't give clear instructions. Overall if you take this class, be prepared to have to figure a lot of stuff out on your own because she is no help.
