Very tricky. Very nice teacher, sometimes she is not clear about some stuff. It's an interesting class.
One of the best professors I've had! She is hilarious and makes class really enjoyable. Very understanding and helpful, and you learn a lot. Make sure she tells you the story about the condom factory!!!
her personality is great. the material wouldn't be so bad if the tests weren't so tricky. i'd find myself studying 24/7 for her exams, take the exam with confidence, and then end up with a 70. i've met with her out of class and she's very helpful.
Very sweet and funny woman, but she definately knows her Genetics. You have to work hard in this class to make a good grade, and her tests are very tricky, but she will help as much as possible.
Great teacher, able to keep interest by relating subject to something completely unpredictable. Lots of extracredit. Exams somewhat hard because you look for a hard solution when its usally the easiest one.
She really sucks!!!
Dr. Dodd is great. She's willing to work with you on any problems that come up in class and has a great sense of humor. She makes the class interesting and fun to be in.
She was a good professor and I got an awesome grade :)
semi-hard test, but she will help you if you ask, possibly the best teacher at this school...TAKE HER
Didn't care about student's needs and rushed through a lot of things
Dr. Dodd is soo great.. She is really a wonderful teacher :)
Dr. Dodd is the best porfessor I have had. She is very through in her lectures and very accessable outside of class. She will go out of her way to make things interesting and fun. She also gives LOTS of extra credit.
Tests are difficult. The final isn't bad as long as you know main concepts. Do extra credit, it will help in the end if your test grades aren't too hot. As a lecturer, I found her confusing. Willing to answer questions. Stick to lecture notes, not book.
Dr. D tells lots of funny stories, is very helpful, and always answers your e-mail. Do the extra credit, don't buy the book, and no matter what don't believe her when she tells you she doesn't put trick questions on the tests, she does!
Nice & funny lady. Don't buy the book-tests are from the notes. The test questions are very tricky sometimes but she gives a lot of extra credit & in the end, she does curve a little bit.
Easy A, some ppl just shouldnt be in the Biology Field. Good teacher...only have to go to class maybe half the time.
Great professor. Tests are a bit tricky. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT PEOPLE. THIS WAY YOU CAN MAKE AN 90 OR BETTER!!! Very helpful when it comes to explaining material.
her class was great, she had a real interest in her students.
NUT CASE. shes all over the place! and i would have expected a 300 level class to be a bit more challenging
Best professor I've had. She gives you lots of oppurtunities to pass and she is very available and willing to help. She's quirky too and it makes it interesting.
Don't let her fool you, she DOES ask trick questions on tests, despite her saying she doesn't. Not a tough class, you don't need the book. Not too hard to pull an A or B. Her lecture slides don't match the downloaded ones.
Dr. Dodd is a really good professor, she was able to turn what seemed like a boring subject and turn it into a really interesting one. The tests are somewhat hard, but with moderate studying you can do fine in the class.
I loved her class. I wish she taught more courses...her tests can be tricky but the EC really helps. She is really nice and will help you in her office. She's funny too!
never opened the book so dont waste your money! you can print her power points out online. I enjoyed her, shes silly and tries to make the class as interesting as possible. She gives extra credit that helps out ALOT. overall a pretty good professor
GREAT GREAT LOVE her, she is fun & explains the material very well!!
Good teacher. Practice exams help but be prepared for trick questions. Overall a good teacher.
My friend and I took this class thinking it will make our resume look "better" for Optometry school (and Physical Therapy for my friend) and we both had to go get tutoring at least once a week because the class is ridiculously hard. Her power point notes are basic, vague and hard to follow. She cannot even present a simply definition without adding
Dr. Dodd is very interested in challenging students to learn the principles of the material and therefore be able to apply the concepts. I would advise attending class regularly and paying attention. With some studying and effort, it isn't impossible to do well.
This class is very hard so be prepared. Pay VERY close attention in class and ask questions when confused.. u'll only get more lost it you don't!!
This class, including lab, is one of the most interesting biology classes ever. And it is easy, yay! The professor is extremely helpful and she will ask any questions at all.
A lot of people think she's nice but I think she's heinous, cruel & annoying, she's a disgrace to women in science. I struggled a lot in this class and she was very unwilling to help, the ability to drop a test & extra credit points were the only reasons I did ok. She NEVER has a SINGLE scan tron right & penalizes the students for it. Stay Away!
Dr. Dodd is amazing!!! She is a great teacher & really gives you the opportunity to do well. Yes, the material is somewhat difficult & you have to study, but she gives you power points & practice tests. She even lets you drop your lowest test & gives a TON of extra credit. So if you don't do well in her class, I would not blame it on her.
Great teacher... She is available for help when you need it... straight forward and gives lots of extra credit... class is not mandatory but if you want a A or B you will need to be present as much as possible...
Awesome teacher. So funny and enthusiastic.
Her questions are just plain confusing - she doesn't do it on purpose which makes it even harder to get. I made my lowest test score in my collegiate career in this class. Lecture boring and distracting. Tests are tricky - if you think about questions, you will mis answer. :( She is nice and usually responds to student concerns. Very flexible.
I love Dr. Dodd. She shows genuine concern for her students and makes every effort to help them do well. Review before exams, clear and entertaining powerpoints, and practice tests are readily available. She also gives fairly easy extra credit. I never knew much about genetics but now that I have taken this course I truly enjoy it!
I have to agree, Dr Dodd does genuinely care about her students. She is by far one of the smartest professors at UNCW. She gives you plenty of chances to do well in the class despite the difficulty of the course. Her class is hard dont understimate it. Great professor, lover her!
Dr. Dodd is a very friendly and hilarious professor, wish she taught all my classes.
Dr. Dodd is one of the best professors I have had at UNCW. Genetics is extremely easy and she is very knowledgeable. Her tests are very straight forward and she does not try and trick you in anyway. She is a great professor!
Although Dr. Dodd is a very nice and helpful lady, this course was like taking "Cell Biology 1.2: The Course for Idiots who Didn't Understand Mitosis and Punnett Squares." Take this class if you want an easy A, not if you actually want to learn anything.
Awesome Prof! Her exams come from her powerpoints and what she talks about in class. I recorded her lectures and listened to them later and it helped allot. She gave away a few test questions word for word in class. She also gives allot of extra credit! Overall I would definatley take her again. Pretty boaring class but its an easy A.
Dr. Dodd is a great professor...she is very clear and her tests come from her powerpoints. However, Genetics is a difficult subject, yet she makes it entertaining and as fun as possible.
Just an absolutely AWEFUL teacher. She looks like a rat and her class makes watching paint dry fun along with doing a terrible job explaining the material. Her tests are so stupid that you can completely understand the material and still get a bad grade. Very bad teacher. NEVER take her.
Heard mixed reviews prior to class, but LOVE Dr. Dodd. She was very helpful with any questions I may have had! Always there when needed and works with any situation you have. Coming to class and paying attention to the slides will give you an easy A even though the material is difficult at times!
The genetics class over-all was interesting, but I had a hard time following the material. You have to do a lot studying on your own time, and Dodd was very willing to work with the students on all fronts.
Great teacher, very dry, funny humor. Very helpful. Allowed me to take the exam early because of scheduling conflicts. Easy to get a hold of. Subject is somewhat difficult, but she makes the class interesting.
She trims her powerpoints to just the stuff you need to know, which makes test easy to study for. Test can be worded tricky, with lots of involved thinking questions. I would recommend her if you want an easy "multiple choice tests" class. Just go to class people, AND pay attention to the lady for an A!
dont need textbook, jus go to class with the powerpoints printed out and take notes on them and study ur notes. Test have tricky questions but its not too bad. Her extra credit helps. Easy HIGH A
...A+ easy
Dumbest professor I've ever had. She doesn't know what she's talking about half of the time. Her tests have so many errors. Easy class though. Basically a BIO 201 review.
very funny and good looking
Her tests are ridiculously tricky, usually have some errors on them which is annoying. She is a pretty cool lady, very smart, but sometimes confusing when explaining things.
The people who said it was an easy A rated her 4/29/10, before they even took the final??! Listen to the others b/c she IS tricky, confusing, not good. Gives you practice exams in which she doesn't even work out correctly. Goes over powerpts, but cannot teach it to you. UNCW needs another teacher for 335 for more options...not a good teacher.
Agree with a comment that said you can understand the material and still make a bad grade. She makes the tests tricky....like the material is not already tricky and confusing enough. I think it's ridiculous. The kids that just got out of high school within the last 2 yrs. may think it's easy since they may have had it recently, but she is not good.
I highly enjoyed Dr. Dodd as a teacher. Many statements were made that the teacher?s tests were tricky, they were not. A person has to be able to apply the material learned to the problems on the tests. I will admit though that mistakes on tests were bothersome.
Worst professor I've had at UNCW. I'm a bio minor and DREADED this class. She teaches the simplest things in her own ridiculous, confusing way. She made punnett squares hard... I studyed my butt off for a test and got a 67, then didn't look at my notes once for the next and got a 64... something is not right here. Don't take it unless you have to.
She is nice and approachable outside of class. However, she is disorganized (always has at least 4 mistakes ON THE EXAMS), has an unclear grading policy, takes forever to get back to you, and she is overall not a very good prof. Take her as you have no choice. Oh yeah btw take her advice with a grain of salt she tells you one thing tests on another
Dr. Dodd definitely loves Genetics and it shows when she's teaching it. Print out her powerpoints and go to class to take extra notes she adds on. Her lectures were more helpful to me than the book. She's very approachable if you don't understand something. Her tests are very hard however, so be careful with wording and study HARD.
Not a good teacher, I do not know where she is getting good ratings from. I believe she rates herself on here. Horible,Horible not kidding.
Dr. Dodd is extremely smart! The material is confusing, not the way she teaches it. If you print out the powerpoints and take extra notes in class you can understand it. The practice exam is almost identical to the real exam. Exams are VERY hard though. But the material is difficult. And she is really funny and makes fun of herself
I really liked Dr. Dodd, and the class. Although the material was difficult at times, everything you need to know for the tests comes from the class Powerpoint notes and practice tests. You don't really need the textbook, although it does reinforce the info and may explain things a little differently. But Dr. Dodd's notes were enough for the tests.
Dr. Dodd does show interest in what she's teaching but she goes through the material really quick. She says just tell her if she is going too fast but then, she responds every time with you dont need that. Also when it comes to practice test, all she gives you is the exam and sometimes she doesn't give you all the answers in class. So your screwed
Overall thought the class was pretty easy. She gives practice tests that mirror the exams. Puts humor into her finals, like quotes from this site. Honestly wouldn't have bought the book, not worth it. Her power points cover it pretty well but need to go to class and pay attention to get any use out of them. Lab is a joke.
Dr. Dodd is so much fun! This class is an hour and a half but never felt like it! She is good at explaining things, and will help you with whatever you need. Don't overthink her tests. I made the mistake of overthinking everything instead of taking it straight forward. LOVED her!
She is great at explaining concepts in simple understandable terms. Never talks above your head like most science professors. Tests are multiple choice but sometimes tricky. Great teacher!
Dr.Dodd is hilarious. She makes lecture as interesting as she possibly can and puts in random slides of pictures of "Place I'd Rather Be". She REALLY knows a lot about genetics but is humbler than most bio professors I have come across. You don't need the textbook but definitely buy the workbook, it'll help you out a lot on the exams!
May have been a man teaching this class, quite frumpy.
Genetics was an interesting class and Dr. Dodd explained everything fairly well. She is a very nice, helpful woman. Genetics lab is awful though. I learned more about genetics in my AP Bio class than in this lab.
The class was somewhat enjoyable. She was a good teacher. Her attitude towards students made the environment of the class less stressful. She also has a thing about skateboarders/bicyclists on sidewalks, and right aways.
Not the best teacher but she puts an effort in to make genetics interesting so lecture isnt too bad. Also unfortunately you don't have choice because she is the only one currently teaching genetics.
Makes the subject matter interesting but when it comes to the facts, she won't really teach you much. Take advantage of SI. Go to class because the powerpoints online aren't always the same and lack some important information. Tests are hard and not like the practices and she usually grades them wrong, being off by a few points. Good luck.
Terrible teacher, boring class. Everything in this class you will have already learned in 201 and high school. She grades tests wrong and then refuses to respond to complaints if your grade is only off by 1 or 2 questions. The book is pointless so don't bother buying it. Her test questions are vague and confusing with ultra specific answers.
Dr. Dodd has taught genetics for ~12yrs. I read lots of bad reviews about her & was apprehensive about taking genetics because of them. Despite her poor test writing skills, I LOVE Dr. Dodd. She is very charismatic & easy to talk to. Very interesting examples. Tangents are fun, but do take away from class time that she makes up for in warp speed.
If you took any form of AP Bio, this class should be a breeze. Test are easy with extra credit, and Dodd is a pretty good teacher although she uses the hated and much outdated method of powerpoint slides. Very nice and adds a bit of fun to the class whenever possible.
I wouldn't bother buying the book, if you go to class she gives you the material you need to know. Every test has a couple of extra credit quesions, so there is room for error. But, most of the class is reveiw from intro bio courses, so it's not that difficult.
Seriously the worst professor I have ever had. All she talks about is how terrible her ratings are on here, She has to be the one giving positive scores. Zero passion for teaching and it shows in her "places I would rather be" slides. It is nearly impossible to pass the tests because EVEN SHE DOESN'T KNOW THE ANSWERS and refuses to fix her mistakes
I LOVE DR. DODD!! SHE IS BY FAR MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR AT UNCW! SHE IS VERY HELPFUL, THE PEOPLE WHO GAVE HER BAD RATINGS MUST NOT HAVE GONE TO CLASS! SHE IS SO FUNNY AND ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT GENETICS! SHE WELCOMES QUESTIONS AND IS WILLING TO MEET OUTSIDE OF CLASS TO FURTHER EXPLAIN THINGS! I WISH SHE COULD TEACH ALL MY CLASSES!! SHE IS AMAZING!!!!
Ehhh, what can I say about her. As a person, she is hilarious and enthusiastic. But has got to be the worse test maker ... EVER. Questions are poorly written/confusing and she usually refuses to recheck test if off by 1 or 2 points.
She's a funny woman but her last few tests are difficult. As the end of the semester nears, material barely mentioned in lecture are emphasized on the exams. I like her but I will never take one of her courses again. Don't buy the textbook. Don't trust her practice exams and attend lecture!
Thinks she's hilarious but she's not, doesn't really seem to care about teaching or the students, really hard tests
Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE HER. EVER. She has got to be by far the worst professor I have ever had in the history of UNCW. She should feel horrible about our test scores. And if you're doing bad and ask for help, she will insult you and make you feel stupid. SHE SHOULDNT BE TEACHING
I absolutely love Dr. Dodd and am now thinking of pursuing a career in Genetics because of her class. Tests are tough but that's because you need to understand concepts rather than just memorizing facts. If you go to class, utilize SI, and study you should do fine. Again, I loved this class and Dr. Dodd.
Dr. Dodd is a horribly disorganized professor whose lectures are confusing and difficult to follow. Her tests are difficult because they are poorly written and grammatically vague. Additionally, she will not consider dropping or discussing test questions. If I had any other option, I would not have taken this mandatory class with her.
Don't take this class unless you have to. She has a way of making the material more difficult than it should have been, for no discernible reason. My interest in genetics as a career field was completely destroyed by this class.
This teacher made ridiculously hard tests and wouldn't respond to any e-mails that I sent her. She makes this class horrible through her inconsistent emphasis on material not relevant to exam material, then testing you on ridiculously specific information not discussed through lectures. Her test making skills are terrible as well.
I can see why a lot of people couldn't adapt to her teaching style. She is pretty vague and nonchalant. It could have been made more interesting. But if you're relatively smart it's not a difficult class.
Diane Dodd freaking rules; she's hilarious and is interesting is basically the beyonce of genetics
Several questions on exams are incoherent. PP slides and study outlines are mediocre and lack critical detail for study. Doesn't offer any textbook regimen or reading guidance. Lacks organized tentative schedule for lectures. Course material itself is not difficult to comprehend. Overall, fun class but disappointing and very unorganized teacher.
Her test questions are very confusing and make no sense. Even if you spend countless hours studying, you will not do well on the exams. She has a mother-knows-best ego.
Intentionally misleading and extremely disorganized. Find another way to take this class and save yourself the frustration of taking it with Dr. Dodd, especially if you want to stay interested in the field of genetics.
Dodd has a really different way of teaching that I did not like. She makes the material harder than it should be. Take this class with a different professor or utilize a friend who has already taken it with her.
I love Dr. Dodd. If she sees that you are in class everyday she will do anything in her power to help you do well in the class. Great teacher. Was helpful whenever I went to talk to her. Didn't start off doing well in the class but with paying attention, office hours, and attending every SI I ended up with an A. Definitely take her.
Dr. Dodd is a textbook college professor. They don't believe in their students. They make them believe that they're stupid. They enjoy working against them instead of with them. You have to be a nitwit to believe that this is an actual education. Why? Because it happened to them when they were a student.
It's great to see the students who rate and throw their A's in your face. They're like "yeah just go to their class every day, and for good measure go to their office and kiss on their bum bum." It's good to know that Social Darwinism isn't at play here. Dr. Dodd would never!
As a person, Dr. Dodd is lovely and I truly believe she wants people to succeed. However, her tests are poorly worded and intentionally misleading. Her powerpoint presentations are lacking, and she places significant emphasis on material that she doesn't necessarily test on. Ask for help, though, and she's much better one-on-one.
I will be honest. This class was one of the most difficult I've taken in college so far, but to blame anything on Dr. Dodd is ignorant and just stupid. Genetics is a difficult subject to understand, and so it requires careful study. This means spending time outside of class and actually going to class. Dr. Dodd is helpful if you approach her.
Outside of class, Dr. Dodd is a helpful professor that wants you to succeed. But she also does everything in her power to trip you up on her exams. Made genetics WAY more about how you test than what you're actually being tested on. SI helps A LOT, just going to lecture may not cut it for this class.
This professor is absolutely horrible. She is very unclear, teaches horribly, her tests are unbearable with quadruple negatives in questions, and won't help. I emailed her many times asking to come in for extra help. The first couple of times she said no, and she just stopped responding to me after I asked more times.
Honestly one of my worst professors. I have been an AB student, and this class will be my first C. Powerpoints are super unorganized. The lecture she supplements them with is even worse. Test have trick questions and are way too hard. She got her Master's and her PhD from YALE and she doesn't seem to realize were not ivy league scholars.
I wish there was another teacher available for this class because I really did not like her teaching style. She was very rude to people asking questions during class. Her tests were just made to make extremely easy material seem tricky. And she would never go back on questions people argued were worded odd on tests. Be careful on test questions
Dr. Dodd's instruction lacks the detail necessary to do well in this course. It is easy to feel well prepared going into an exam, but your performance is solely based upon how well you test, as well as how well you catch subtle tricky details that are not discussed in her book or the lecture. Buckle up!
Here's the thing: the material isn't that difficult, or at least wasn't that hard for me. Dr. Dodd has a tendency to make everything more complicated than it needs to be, though. A lot of her test questions are worded confusingly, but if you read carefully they aren't that difficult.
Dr. Dodd is the worst professor I have ever had. I think genetics is incredibly interesting, but she ruined it. She makes test and homework questions much harder than necessary because she is bored. It would be in the universities best interest to replace her. All the stories are true. You have been warned.
Outside of the classroom Dr. Dodd is very sweet. Her test, however, are VERY difficult. The wording will easily confuse you. She makes genetics much harder than it should be. SI does help.
I wish UNCW had another professor for this course.
If you go to UNCW, she is the only professor to teach Genetics. Don't take the class if its not required of your major. Her tests, as mentioned in other comments, are hard because she makes trick questions and uses poor grammar. Taking the notes before class might help so you can just listen while she lectures.
Hon110 is easy as long as you show up and participate. Dodd is a really cool lady and she was a great 110 teacher. theres a lot of small assignments, but as long as you try its a pretty easy A. I had a B the whole time and towards the end she gave me a bunch of 100's on stuff and i ended up with an A
Worst professor I have ever had at UNCW. She shows no interest in her students success, and will verbally express that. She encourages you NOT to attend her office hours because she's "too busy." She'll make mistakes on tests and never fix them, your grade will suffer. But she's the only genetics teacher.
Genetics is not a difficult subject to learn. To succeed in this class, you need to adjust your way of thinking to match Dr. Dodd's. Get your hands on any past exam that you can find and use that to study in addition to your notes. She drops the lowest test grade, so even if you do poorly on the first one, don't give up. You can do this!
I honestly don't understand all of these negative comments about Dr. Dodd. I think she's an incredible professor and our class average for her exams has always been in the 80's. Her tests aren't extremely easy, but they're not impossible either. If you actually study and understand the material, then you'll make an A. I loved this class!
She has a really bad reputation but I have no idea why. She is a good professor and her class is interesting. Her tests are a bit tricky but not impossible like everyone says. Her homework on the other hand is extremely difficult and she does not give partial credit at all. Overall really like her, she's kinda funny & you can get an A if you study.
Very frustrating class. I spent most of my time studying for this class alone, which is fine if you don't have 4 other classes to worry about. The tests are very tricky and the HW's are almost impossible. I only made a B because I had a really good study partner. Don't bother buying the book, she even tells you the book is wrong and she is right.
Really wish there was another professor for this class. She is rude to students who ask questions in class and answers with a sarcastic smile. Exams are 27 questions and are worded tricky. Besides book smarts she claims you need "common sense" as well. She does however drop the lowest test grade.
Confusing most of the time but tests pretty straight forward.
Dr. Dodd is really good! I don't know where she gets her bad reputation from. If you go to class and study her study guides it will be okay. Her tests are a bit tricky, so only answer the question that is on the page. Nothing is ever implied. If you don't go to class it will not work out at all. Homework is quite difficult.
Dodd is very disorganized. Her presentation of the material is unclear and at times filled with errors. Exams were confusing and also full of errors. She would often say ... quote: "blah blah blah" will rushing through Powerpoints. These blahs appeared on exams. The whole experience was not educational and very frustrating.
Dodds can be disorganized when she does her power points, I tried to follow her lectures with one of the older edition Genetics book and half the time had no idea where we were even at. But if you go to class and pay attention it's not difficult. Homeworks are tricky and test can be but usually not as hard.
Lecture is rather straightforward and not too difficult although sometimes can be tricky. However, the lab is the most unorganized and poorly put together lab I have ever taken. I learned absolutely nothing while faking my way through a lab that required a lot of work that if anything confused me even more than I already was.
If you go to class everyday and go to SI at least before the test you shouldn't do poorly. The material isn't all that hard but you have to work on learning it. She isn't that good of a teacher and she rushes through powerpoints quickly, just try your best to take notes and go to SI. Sucks she's the only 335 prof but you gotta take her.
Dr. Dodd is great! She is so nice, and you can bring her questions you have. I rarely open the textbook although it is sometimes helpful. She mostly tests from lecture material. Recording the lecture is your best bet for success. Her exams are tough, but she really wants to see that you know the material. Her attendance quizzes help your grade.
Dr. Dodd isn't a bad person at all. She was my genetics prof and my advisor and she's really easy to talk to, but I could not stand going to lecture. She is very disorganized with her powerpoints and rushed through the material. Her tests are tough and tricky. And if you try to go to her office hours (even if you email her) shes probably not there.
Poorly organized. Fundamental lack of structure. It's perfectly ironic that a genetics teacher would lack all the elements of organization. She teaches from the power points, tests mostly from them, but has a distorted philosophy on how students shouldn't have access to her annotated slides or even solutions to problems. Bad teacher.
Her practices tests are easy, but when it comes to the test it is completely opposite and confusing. Im dropping the class with a W because her second test was not designed to be done in 50min. out of the 130 or so students, only 1 person was able to finish on time. Avoid this course unless.
Shes the worst professor Ive ever had. She goes super fast and doesnt care if you understand or not. Her exams are 100 times harder than her practice exams and lectures/quizzes. You could study for hours but if youre not a geneticist, you wont get an A in her class. She gives you 50 min to complete tests and makes her open response like 25 pnt
How I can go from being a straight A student to failing tests is beyond me. I want to like her, and I think she is very bright, but her tests are impossibly worded. Her study guides don't help with the tests at all and the wording is exceptionally tricky. I was a straight A student before this class.
She seems very intelligent, but her teaching is just awful. The way her tests are worded are so confusing. You could feel like you understood the material, but then barely pass the test because the questions are so bad. Not only that, but there were multiple times that students had to correct her on tests because she got her own questions wrong.
Although Dr. Dodd seems to be a kind, smart person, she certainly struggles at creating an even somewhat interesting lecture. Her lectures are incredibly dry. Your grade in based on test scores, with little additional assignments to help your grade. She is very unorganized and does not post finalized PowerPoints claiming that it's "for a reason."
Dr. Dodd is by far one of the worst professors I have ever had for a biology course. Even with a hurricane that made this last semester so difficult she made no attempt to help students succeed. Almost the entire grade was based on EXAMS with no other ways of earning points in the class. Take this class during the summer with someone else. Awful.
I don't know if Dr. Dodd is ever going to be let go. She should not be teaching a genetics class. By far one of the WORST professors I have had during the past 3 years. She is unorganized, doesn't post slides with what we are expected to know and solely bases grades on exams that are very abstract and can have several answers. She should be fired.
Genetics has been a topic Ive always been passionate about but her class kind of killed it for me. There is no mandatory HW but your grade is based on 4 tests and attendance. I struggled a lot with this class despite tutoring and SI sessions and she wasnt very helpful. Shes a nice person but her teaching skills lack
A nice person outside of the classroom and will work to help you figure out what you do not understand. However, overloads students with a lot of information at once. She takes awhile to develop her responses, making anyone really want to sleep. If you want an easy, but extremely boring bio class, take this one. Also, forget not buying the textbook
I took this class over the fall of 2018. She was not that accommodating. She is a nice person outside of class. But she is scatter brained and he lectures are very boring. Basically she has attendance quizzes, but if you get all 50 points, you basically don't have to show up. No extra credit, even if you came to all lectures.
She's a sweet lady but she is a terrible professor. The class is only 50 minutes and when taking her exams its no where near enough time to finish. She has no organizational skill, her study guide is a copy of the old exam which doesn't really help and she'll also say something is not in the test but she'll still put it. Save your time and GPA
Her class is pretty easy. Boring lectures and she is a bit scatterbrained and overwhelmed. Her tests were all multiple choice and relatively easy if you have a background on the info. She gave 2 extra credit questions on each exam for a total of 8 extra points. Not as bad as everyone says she is.
Dr. Dodd is honestly very caring and wants to see students succeed. This being said, she often gets a bad reputation because the material is difficult and she is a tad scatterbrained. She understands the material at a level where she sometimes has difficulty explaining the basics, so reading the textbook and doing the practice tests are helpful.
This was her first time teaching this course, but she left it up to the students what we wanted to make of it. Grade based on in class participation and submitting questions for class discussion. Boring at times when there was no discussion, but the class was easy to get an A in and was usually interesting. Very nice and open-minded lady.
She gives quizzes to grade attendance and it's impossible to do poorly on them because you get half credit even if you get the answer wrong. There are only four tests excluding the final and her practice tests are very useful to explain how she asks her questions. It's harder if you're a poor test taker, but she does her best to work with you.
Dr. Dodd was by far one of my favorite professors! Her lectures were very intriguing and I felt like I have a significantly better understanding of genetics now! Her tests could be a bit tricky, but if you study outside of class and go to SI sessions, you will do fine! She is super kind and caring and she will definetly help if you put in the work!
Tests are near impossible. Lectures are highly unorganized. Didnt even cover a few chapters of material because we didnt have enough time in the semester.
