Awsome math teacher Highley recommend her. She always is available for help.

Awesome teacher!
Explained the material very well, also willing to work 1 on 1 with students, would register for next math class with her...
I had her for Precalc and i have reccomended to all my friends to take her class. I have already registered for her calc course in the spring.
She is easily one of the best teachers i have had at this college thus far and I have only have had 2 (out of 10) total that I would qualify for the best. She is very clear, doesn't grade homework, or attendence. Just as long as you get the material and perform on test's you will be in good shape.
Wonderful, energetic professor who really tries to get her students interested. She's very willing to help students and wants then to succeed - but not to the point of spoon-feeding.
The motto of this teacher for this class is to prepare her students for pre-calc. Great if your taking that class, horrible if your not. Gives 4 tests and a final. If you don't perform well on tests, your screwed. Grading system poor. This class although only 100 level has the potential to ruin your gpa.
If you're taking a math course, this is the professor you want. If you show up for class every day you WILL learn the material. She teaches in a fun and energetic way, and calls on students at random so that everyone is engaged and learning. She grades only on tests, HW/attendance etc are not counted.
I don't know who's rating her, but this teacher is horrible. Told students that we were the worst class she ever taught, half the class dropped, had to rearrange her syllabus. Says she wont check your homework and then she does and scolds you for not doing it. Teaches fast and is EXTREMELY HARD, and NOT hot at all.
Shes awesome, really fun and funny. A real character, only things is she teaches real fast- writes on the white board faster than you can copy. and flys thru overheads sometimes. Had her for Pre Calc. She's easily the best teacher Ive had- and Ive been going to college a LONG time
I have had Prof. Hilliar several times and she is wonderful, she is a little fast but if you ask her to slow down she will, she is just trying to get through the material. You will deffinately understand it when the class is over. She wants you to learn and will help you, but also expects you to be a good student in return.
awesome
Very high strung, if you have a problem she will try to help but sometimes makes you feel stupid infront of the class, she calls on you all the time, reminds me of a kinder, class. If you ask her for help she brushes you off after class. Only 5 test and you need to do good! HARD, CONFUSING! SHE TEACHES TOO FAST!!
She is just not a great teacher. Do yourself a favor and take someone else. I find her personality and teaching methods to be very annoying. There are better teachers for this class.
shes really really hyper and funny and a great teacher
She does demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching, however, she does try to limit her office hours if you need additional assistants. Otherwise, she is known as a great professor and she gives assignments pertinent to her class sessions. She is well known through out the student body.
SHE IS SOO AWESOME!!! MAKES LEARNING FUN, RECOMMEND HER TO ANY AND EVERYONE. TOOK THIS CLASS BEFORE WITH ANOTHER TEACHER, AND I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING; SHE MAKES MATH SOOOO EASY!!!
She does go fast but she gives good notes she's a good teacher. when you get to this point of math you have to put in a lot of effort to grasp the concepts but i would recommend her over others who teach math186. Here students from lower math develop concrete skills i had some as tutors. You'll be lucky to be in her class.
It is clear from day one that she enjoys teaching. She is very enthusiastic and explains the material well. The tests are reasonable. However, when she is teaching she calls on students at random and asks them questions about the material as it is taught. She really puts you on the spot. That is why i hated this class, the pressure made me crack.
Don't take her. She likes to pick random at students for answers so you really have to pay attention. She may seem like a fun teacher but her class is very hard. The first math course I took at MCC was with her and I got C+. The higher math courses I took seemed easier than her class!
She goes fast, she calls on kids at random, is boring, does not help you in or out of class, not there for office hours, can be mean, quiz and tests you on things she did not go over in class, she could care less for those who are not her "favorites."
She is a very good teacher I hate math but she was able to make it very easy. Her teaching style is very unique and almost annoying. She is very animated and at times you just want her to calm down and go back to teaching. 4 quizs and 1 final. The quizes consist of everything we learned in class, no tricks. Also she does not check homework.
One of my favorite professors. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who really wants to learn the material and have fun while doing so. I will try to schedule for her in the future.
I owe it to her for changing my major. Currently working on my Masters in MATH!!!! If you have her for Math consider yourself Blessed.Pay attention and you will be forever thankful.
As an older student; I sometimes found her animation (volume level really) discomforting. However, there is no doubt that she conveys the ideas with clarity and helps the student to understand. Keep in mind that we are talking mathematics; active participation on the students part is needed. If you fail its because you didn't try hard enough.
I thought she was terrible. She would call me out in front of the class and basically humiliated me. Passed every exam but somehow failed her class, emailed her about how that was possible never got a response back.
she is a good teacher but she must times make you look and feel stupid and also has her favorites who she will always pay attention to and her favorites are always obvious she goes way too fast and not much help for additional help cant wait to leave her class!!!!
Favorite math teacher of all time. This woman could teach algebra to monkeys. She is like an elementary school teacher for big kids. I found her class to be extremely simple and her animation makes it easy to pay attention. She does call on people for answers but as long as you're following along you should be fine. Taking her again for precalc.
BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!!!! Dont be late, she hates that! I used to be so afraid of math, but she made it sooo simple. loved her!
DO NOT TAKE HER!I asked her to sign the withdrawl form the one where you need a teacher signature and she stepped back from the paper like it had germs and refused to sign it.And today we took our last Exam and I was the last one still taking it and she tells me to hand in my test when I had 10 mins left of the class period.
She calls on the same students in the class and she nevers calls nobody else . I dont think she liked me for whatever reason I only talked with her about 3 times throughout the whole semester I felt she was unapproachable and wasn't that kind to talk to. She makes sarcastic remarks when you talk to her after class. Her animations are ANNOYING!
This was overall a good class. The teacher was helpful, and classes were enjoyable. The work was made so that you can understand it. Relies on the previous classes that she taught, takes time to adjust. Overall a good class with an entertaining teacher.
She is a great teacher. She makes everything extremely easy to understand. She is extremely friendly but if you don't show up to class or put the work in, she will have no pity for you.
She is a great math teacher. She makes everything extremely easy to understand. I would definitely recommend taking her over any other math teacher.
Professor Diane is tHe BEST professor at MCC!!! she makes learning really easy and in a way that everyone understands the materials. If you attend every class on time and do the homework problems you WILL do great in her class. I REALLY learned a lot from her. I wish she taught calculus this fall but she is not but I recommend her to any and every1
She is the best math professor out there!
She was really helpful and knew what she was doing when to cane to the subject and I totally loved her class.
Professor Hillyer is passionate about math and she makes the class fun by engaging you in the topic. If you're not a math person, you'll do well because she goes back to the lessons and practices them so you'll get the hang of it. Show up to class and be sure to do your homework and you'll do fine!
This class was actually very tough for me. Diane comes off intimidating, but honestly once you talk to her shes soo sweet. I struggled in this class due to the fact that i am not a math person and i am also a very busy person. Go to class...she definitely notices this. Although i did not pass with a good grade, i still passed and recommend her!
I absolutely hated math, but once I got to Diane's class, everything made sense. This is the first A I've ever gotten in a math class my entire life. She made learning the material incredibly understandable and fun. Just show up and take the notes. If you have to take a math class, make sure it's taught by her. She's a lovely teacher.
I took this class over the summer and it was great! She took the time to ensure every student understood the concepts she put forward
Grade is made up of only four tests. Not fair to students who don't test well. Very loud. Tries to cover all the material that she is supposed to so she rushes through everything and doesn't make sure the students understand. I asked her for help and she was very rude & basically said I have no chance of passing. Doesn't check hw or take questions.
Math is very hard for me and Diane did not help. She was very loud and rude when you got an answer wrong. I felt put on the spot a lot of times. If you struggle with math I would NOT recommend her.
Diane is a great teacher, she explains herself very well and made math so clear. She gives homework every class, but it is never graded. The only grades for this class come from four tests taken during the semester. Great professor, would definitely recommend.
Mrs. Hillyer was a pleasure to have as a math professor. She is very clear about what is needed to be studied and what will be on each exam. Four exams are given along with a final exam. If your final exam grade is higher than your lowest exam grade, that exam grade will be replaced with your final exam grade. Hats off to an extraordinary professor
DIANE is the BEST math teacher! although she is very loud it actually makes you stay focused in class. She does call on people every single class even if you are not volunteering..the grade is made up from the four tests so it is not that bad if you study and stay focused! she is very nice and helpful i would definitely take math with her!
Awesome Teacher, made math fun, which I thought was not possible.
Diane is a wonderful teacher. Her enthusiasm is encouraging and she provides very useful notes at which you should NEVER skip lecture. She will give you all the information &opportunities you need to receive a good grade, just do your homework and study what she tells you to! I had her two semesters & I am disappointed that she doesn't teach Calc1!
A very nice person, but not a good teacher. Almost sure half the class didn't pass. Yet even when she saw not everyone was getting it she didn't take time to slow down or explain. I only did well because even though I don't like math I get it. If you like math she is a great person and you could enjoy it, if you hate math stay away.
This professor is clear in her goal of what she wants for you . There are four tests and one exam. Nothing from her is tricky. She is straight forward. What I like about this professor is that she always says what she is expecting and her lectures are what she puts in the test. She did not wander around or waste my time with trivial conversation.
Best teacher and is easy to follow in class on the subject
never there for office hours, was reported by other teachers for making excessive noise during lectures, rude, unclear, and overall worst teacher i've ever had. she once made me cry because she embarrassed me so badly in class. she brags about never calling everyone out, but makes everyone uncomfortable. I truly don't understand how she has a job.
Diane was awesome. Easily the best math teacher I've ever had. She loves her students, loves the content, makes math entertaining (which is not easy to do for people who aren't interested in it), and makes sure everyone knows the content. I'd take this class again in a heartbeat.
Professor Hillyer is very enthusiastic in her teaching method and makes you pay attention. Attendance is necessary, as the lectures are full of notes.
LOVED having Diane. I HATED (and wasn't very good with) math walking into the semester, but she made it A LOT better! Keeps things interesting and is ver clear with what she wants to see. Helps students... ASK QUESTIONS! She is willing to slow down if students don't understand the material. I would take her again if I needed another math course.
No real study guides for tests
Prof Hillyer is hands down one of the best professors I have met,she is funny, intelligent and makes learning tough subjects fun. She truly is a hidden gem at MCC. MattS.
She is one of the best teacher that i have ever had. She helps students' understand what they are confused about. Office hours are also important.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. Diane is hilarious and makes class fun. If you skip class you'll have a hard time catching up, but she's deff a teacher you want !
Took Math 139 although I tested into 138. Glad I took the embedded support class. Diane was GREAT in answering questions and is very precise on what she requires. Grading was typical, ATTENDENCE was a must, if you missed 1 class you would be lost. Test's and quiz materials were well reviewed beforehand. Diane is very patient.
Easily one of my favorite math professors. Loud and clear, perfect for the 10am I had with her. She makes it fun. She gets to know everyone, and jokingly picks on people, and overall just makes you feel comfortable in her room. Always answers questions. People who are not good at math, as well as people who like it, will do well with her. Love her.
Amazing teacher. Has a great personality, and is very clear with expectations. Cares about students and her work. She does cold call on people in class to answer questions and expects homework to be done. You will be well prepared for future classes.
I had a hard time understanding math before this class. Once she started teaching everything started clicking for me. She makes sure students understand and if not she will find another way to explain so you will understand. The homework is strictly to help you practice what was in class. Definitely recommend this professor!
She has been the worst teacher ive had. The way she teaches is hard to understand and fast paced so if youre not good at math dont bother taking her. Her quizzes and exams are od hard the onyl good thing about her class is that she drops your worst exam grade. I would not take her again, idk if im gonna pass since she doesnt provide grading updates
If you're prepared to learn, this lady will break numbers down in such a way that is easy to grasp. She sings songs that help remind you formulas as she writes them up. She's both efficient and effective. You;d be lucky to be on her roster, class fills up quick. Good luck!!!
Best teacher I have had at MCC. She clearly loves teaching and puts in the effort to make you understand the material.
If you have trouble with math then I don't suggest taking her. The class is very fast paced and she sort of expects you to learn the material quick. If you miss one class you will miss a lot of work. The textbook was not needed in class only to do homework. She is super nice though and not rude just if you struggle do not take her
I thought I hated math until I took Precalc with Diane. She is amazing at her job and clearly loves what she does. Very clear expectations. Don't miss class or you will not be able to catch up. Do the homework, show up and try & you will do great!
Honestly one of my favorite math professors. She explains the material really well and if possible, she gives you the program to do it all on the calculator. She's one of those teachers that makes the class fun even if you hate the subject. Definitely make sure to show up to class. The notes are very detailed and you don't want to miss them!
Attend every single class. Miss just one area of content & it will cause a lot of distress. She goes through concepts extremely fast, & it can be difficult to get her to slow down/answer a question/repeat. She can be disrespectful and sometimes rude when it comes to helping students who learn at a slower pace. Belittles them & isn't patient.
You have to be there every class or else you won't understand a thing. The quizzes and exams are easy though and she is very nice.
I found this class very hard, but I've never done well in math. If you study for exams and do all homework you will pass. She's an awesome teacher shes funny and helps the class and person on person as well. Makes you feel comfortable and welcome in class room. 10/10 Would recommend taking her!
Just a awesome experience
I typically don't enjoy math, but Professor Hillyer has been able to explain it in a way that is clear and that I understand. Her tests are not too difficult because she breaks the material up into small chunks. She cares about her students and their success very much. As long as you go to class and apply yourself, you'll pass.
Professor Hillyer is a great choice for any math you might take. She breaks down the steps so slowly that you can understand it fully. She will work hard with you if you still do not get it. Lots of small tests and homework. A Gem in MCC.
Professor Hillyer really cares and wants you to do well. Ask questions in class if you don't understand, do the homework, and make sure that you attend all the classes and you will get an A.
I had Professor Hillyer for intermediate algebra, college algebra, and precalculus. She's the most amazing Professor I have ever had and helped me believe in my ability to learn math. Show up to class, do the homework and you will have a solid math foundation going into advanced mathematics. I wish I could take her for calc but I transferred :*(
Diane Hillyer has been one of the most inspirational people in my life! She goes above and beyond for her students. Don't get me wrong, she is tough. You must do your work, come to class and put in some effort. Every class was a blast, I sat in the back and laughed at all her math jokes and her nerdy goofiness. I hope she never changes!
Took her for Intermediate Algebra and I LOVED her! She hilarious and really wants you to understand what she's teaching you. I wish she taught all my required math courses! Class is super easy as long as you show up, pay attention, and do the work. I promise you won't regret her course!
I am TERRIBLE at math. It has always been my absolute worst subject. That being said, I left this class with an A+. (my second best grade I've ever received in math was a C-) She is really really good because she is so passionate about math, and a little insane, its impossible to doze off in class. Show up every time, put in the work, you'll ace it
This was the last class that I needed to take for transfer and I was placed into a lower level math class that I could absolutely not get around schedule conflicts with work. She refused to let me in her class after getting the OKAY from the math department. Its my grades and MY money what trouble would it have been for her to override.
Love, love, love her, she explains when youre in doubt, shes very encouraging . Would definitely take her again!
Great Professor, perhaps one of the best I've had. Her explanations are easy to understand and the class is very well organized. Do the homework and you will do fine.
I loved her! She moves quickly and there is a lot of homework, but she is a straight shooter and she wants you to pass. SHOW UP TO CLASS EVERYDAY, pay attention, and you will pass. I will be taking her next semester for sure!
We went over all the material for the tests a few times, and even reviewed for the final! If you went over the homework after class and again before the tests it was easy enough to keep up with the material
Prof Hillyer is an absolute angel. She always replies to emails ON TIME and her video lectures were excellent. I would take her again without a doubt.
Online format is very straight forward and her lecture videos explain different mathematical concepts VERY well and she includes practice problems! Homework is recommended but not mandatory - definitely do it though. Grade was based off 4 exam grades. Definitely recommend.
I have never ever understood math. Prof. Hillyer truly changed that for me. Her teaching style is extremely helpful if you struggle with numbers like me. Going to class is very important as well as keeping up with homework. It is not graded but it will help you with your tests that she gives after every chapter! Love her!
EXAM GRADES ONLY: Harsh grader, only grades using four exams plus the final. Teaches concepts thoroughly but goes very fast, often skips steps as she assumes you've taken college algebra. Majority of my class who did well on the first two exams completely flopped on the third. Often hysterical, and not in the fun way. I dread going to her class.
Mrs. Hillyer is kind, but there's a lot of homework that's ungraded (no incentive + time consuming = low priority), she does the work and explains it faster than you can finish the problems + take notes, and your entire grade is 5 large tests. You check your own answers, but nothing's posted online. Math was my strong suit, and now I may not pass.
Has a way of making a non-mathematical brained person fully engrossed in subject matter one would otherwise avoid. I cannot give enough thanks to Diane for her genuine love of her craft and care for her students. Lectures are made available online to review and have proven to be most helpful in my own understanding of the more challenging material.
Professor Hillyer truly cares about her students and making sure that she explains concepts in a way that is easily understood, but you have to put in the work outside of class. I have taken three of her classes and would gladly take more any time it's possible.
Amazing professor! Had her for both College Algebra and Precalculus where I earned a solid A in each class. Put in the work, do the homework and the exams are pretty straightforward. I found her videos to be clear and concise. I wish I could take her for Calculus I, but have a conflicting schedule this semester. Highly recommend!
The professor assigns a lot of homework but never grades it, and her provided answers often don't match the questions. She dislikes being asked about exam topics and only grades exams. There are four exams with no study break before the final. She grades harshly, offering no leniency even for small mistakes like forgetting a negative sign.
(She is a Tough Grader) She gives so many homework which is very helpful for exam, but she does not grade them. She only grades your EXAMS, and there are four of them, the last one is cumulative. I spent the whole semester with anxiety and studying like CRAZY. But she TEACHES well and you will learn.
I should've listened to the reviews about this professor. She only grades 5 exams. She assigns "homework" exercises from the end of each chapter. However, there is no credit for them and there is no way to know if you are doing the exercises correctly, so personally to me it is pointless for her to assign them. she does not help students learn.
Exams are where she lost me, the questions were all handwritten and we had to submit our answers handwritten, ok. what sucked was that there was no feedback afterwards, I got a number grade but no notes on which ones I got right or wrong, I emailed her several times and I still don't know which parts of what I submitted took points off my grade.
Professor Hillyer is SO nice and I enjoyed taking her pre-calculus class. It was definitely a bit challenging because pre-calc is a HARD subject, but Professor Hillyer was very flexible with helping you if you needed it.
"Skip class? Won't pass" can't be more accurate in this case. She's nice, but tough. She drops the lowest exam if it's lower than your final, but there's only the 3-4 exams and final that count for your grade. I missed some exams and even with my accommodation I wasn't allowed to make them up, so I ended up with an F
For this class, it can be easy to get left behind if you miss classes or can't keep up. It's understandable why people find it difficult, as it is not an easy class. If you take good notes, do all the exams, and study you will be set up for success in this class. Professor Hillyer is fair!
Recommended if you like challenging yourself. I don't. Grades are mainly 4 exams & final. 1 drop if final is higher. Lots of HW assigned and encouraged to try, which helps for exams. In lecture, fast pace & must participate. Helpful part is her lecture recordings online if you miss some. Other rules vary by semester. She's nice but course's hard.
Prof Hillyer explains concepts very clearly and provides videos of her lectures online for review. She calls on everyone during class which I think helped everyone including those that struggled b/c she will then help that person work through the problem. It does help to do the homework, but that is true really with every class.
Tough but fair grader. Lots of homework, but it really helps for the exams. Lectures are clear and engaging. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for extra practice.
If you do not like exams being the only graded assignments, do not take this course. There is also no makeup for a missed exam. My friend had to miss an exam because his grandmother passed away and there was no expection for him. He had to drop the class because he didn't do well on the next one.
