I was pretty disappointed in this class. She seems very distracted, disappears for days at a time, the class and assignment schedule isn't really paced very well to get the final assignment accomplished - participates more than most online teachers, but nothing really substantive. I wish I could take the class over with another teacher.
she is helpful and the class subject matter is very interesting. She is always willing to give extra help.
The reading material was very interesting, some assignments and expectations were sometimes unclear and she whent missing now and then (this was an online class), but I'm glad that I took it and I enjoyed it a lot. A fairly easy and very thought provoking class.
Diane Houston is a very reasonable teacher. Each assignment is given a week or more of time in order to complete it. Though she often gone for long periods of time she often returns ready to make accomadations for any problems encountered while she was busy withn other things. Her ENGL 102D class focused on discussion and how to research a topic.
I loved Diane! It was such an easy class. we did the homework in class and she was extremely clear in what she wanted for each essay. And she's an easy grader. she's really nice too!
VERY NICE TEACHER
Diane is a very helpful and understanding teacher. She's always willing to look over your papers and provide you with feedback if needed. She's a very fair grader and will provide you ample time to fix your drafts. Great in class discussion. If you take all the quizzes and do your journal and inclass assignments, it's an easy A.
easy class
She's an awesome teacher! Willing to help students anytime. The class is quite fun to attend. OVERALL! SHE'S THE BEST TEACHER I'VE HAD AT EVCC.
One of the easiest classes ever, but also a complete waste of time. Taking it online with her would be ideal. Lectures were a joke, however shes very nice
I really liked Diane. She was so helpful and easy going. She understood the individual view aside from her own and was fun to listen to. I'd recommend her in a heartbeat.
I really wish this class was online. There is absolutely no point to attend class. I can get more work done at home on my pc. Wish I had laptop so I can work in class. Interesting videos. NOT A BAD CLASS. Just needless info in-class. Interesting, but needless.
This teacher was an online teacher for me, which actually was really annoying. Her tendency to disappear for days (even weeks) at a time, was really off-putting and made things difficult. I don't know what else she does, but if she'd going to "teach" an online class, she needs to get on daily as expected for students. Class was pretty easy though.
I took this class as an online refresher class and she was wonderful. She responded within 24 hours to any e-mails I sent her and helped with any questions I had. She had extra handouts to help with grammar in our writing. The readings were interesting and thought provoking. I would recommend this teacher to anyone.
Houston is so easy!I skipped class twice a week on lab days because she makes the class turn in homework online, so you can turn it in anywhere!:) The essays are easy, and she's a very nice lady. I recommend taking her class w/ a hard class like Chem, Calc, or physics because you can forcus more on those than her class:)
Professor Diane is very great at teaching english 102D. She's easy to get along with and very understanding!
By far the easiest class i had in college. She is a really nice lady but i really didn't learn anything in class and if i would have skipped class like the other half of the class i would have probably still gotten an A. She was a really nice lady but i just wish i had learned something.
Easy but interesting. It is nice that she likes to look at different sides of any thing. But sometimes I wish she wouldn't present things in a one sided manner. It was very hard to stay awake in class to be honest but she is a good teacher if you want to learn MLA form because she spent a lot of time talking about it... which is boring
This class was easy as pie! She's super helpful when it's needed but it's not a very hard class to begin with. You'll get a good grade in the class if you try and are semi-good at writing college level papers.
Seriously, she is the best! So easy, so clear, and so interesting. I wish she would teach ever course.
I really liked this class, Diane helps you every step of the way and she makes sure you have all the tools to succeed in this class. Easy readings and homework assignments.
Diane is awesome! The class is easy but I learned a ton from her. She makes sure that you learn and enjoy learning. She also grades easy. Not very time-consuming class but I loved it!
Great teacher, I highly recommend her!
This was a very easy class, I didn't really want to show up as much but showed up. She grades easy and you don't really need to try. I recommend her class if you want an A. There's two short reading responses every week unless otherwise posted which is SUPER EASY to do. And she only has two essays for the whole class. I loved it.
SUPER easy. Lots of readings and discussions. She is great person but she mumbles a lot which can get annoying after a few weeks. The papers aren't hard but don't wait til the last minute to get them done either...seriously...it's not THAT easy. (you can do that with the readings though :-P)
easy porf, you don't even need to show up, and the works are submitted online. don't even need to watch the videos before you write the extra credit essay, take her, A
I really think her class is easy. & If you do you work, you'll most definitely get that A!
Highly recommend this teacher. She is a fairly easy grader and is always available for questions or help. There are only 2 actual papers and 2 reading responses per week. Very manageable class
Great teacher she knows what she is talking about and she is very organized. She is always willing to help and you can tell she wants her students to do good! I hate writing but she made this class enjoyable.
She was very thorough with grading and advice. She often read my papers to give help before turning them in with for a grade.
Overall both a fantastic teacher and class. Diane Houston was very timely on getting back to students about their scores and gave very helpful advice and critique on various assignments and essays written in class. Excellent teacher. Simply keep up on assignments and it's an easy A. I definitely recommend taking this teacher.
My favorite professor by far! I've taken a few online classes and she's the best teacher I've had yet. She's so understanding and always willing to help! Highly recommend her.
She is a good teacher. Makes the class very easy. Had two papers due. The second paper was not due till last day of class and we did assignments that would help us write our final paper throughout the whole quarter. Very easy.
Excellent teacher. Very clear syllabus. If you do all assignments and follow instructions it is an easy A. 4 essays due during quarter.
Amazing teacher. I was pretty nervous about taking an online class, but Diane was available to me just as much, if not more than a regular teacher. I'm even taking another class from her this quarter.
Took her college 101 class at Cascadia. Her class was very easy, and she was very nice!
Huston was an alright teacher but to be honest I didn't learn anything from her. We did our assigned papers but afterwards there really wasn't much learning. Just submitting your paper to get it checked and then submitting it to get your grade. It was also very easy to get her distracted to watch a movie or something in class. Kinda highschoolish.
She is a good teacher because I learned new things from her but she is timid. She sometimes does not care if you listen to her class but is very considerate as long as you talk to her about your situation beforehand. I could have learned more though if we talked about what we read about in class because she gives a lot of reading assignments.
Love her!
Really sweet lady. Interesting reading topics. Low stress. If you do the work you will get an A
great class
Diane is a really sweet lady and the class was an EASY A for me! Every week there is a reading response due minimum of 250 words, and only 2 essays and a group presentation. Sometimes she rambles too much but she's fairly laid back and easygoing, so take her if you want a stress-free and LOW work load class.
Diane is awesome! For this being my first OL class I was nervous but she is so organized and helpful, better than my Eng101 class on campus. Every article we respond to is super interesting, it's usually things I'd read for fun anyways! She gives awesome feedback and advice if you're confused on something and will allow you to fix mistakes.
This was the easiest class I've ever taken... including all the classes I took in high school. I wouldn't take again because I didn't learn a thing, but it was an easy A. I hardly showed up because it was practically an online class. (Showed up for group presentations though) One time I turned an essay in three weeks late and got full credit.
Great professor. Gives great feedback on writing assignments. Although there is a lot of reading. Cares about students learning.
Diane was the best instructor i've ever taken. She is an easy grader; I always turned in assignments late and i mean a few weeks late and still got full points! I did not come to the group presentation and got a 24 out of 25 point i'm not even joking. & she gave me 90 out of 100 pts for the final essay (i wrote 5pages instead of 8)
Weekly reading responses, 2-4 a week, 250 words each. Sometimes these are really easy/short readings, but a lot of them are really long (7-12 pages) that you have to read in order to answer. Two formal papers, one 3-5 page and one 8-10 page. It's a great class but lots of work if you are taking other classes as well.
Took her for an online English 102 class and it was the best decision of my life. It was full of deep discussions that was enhanced by the fact she never took points off i got full credit every single time! The two papers can be time consuming but she is not too harsh on the grading.
Diane is a great professor!! Her English 101 class is pretty easy; weekly reading responses (250 words), couple of essays, 2 extra credit assignments. Personally, I didn't learn anything new, however, it was a great class to refresh on some skills. Great class to get familiar with college without stressing too much.
I learned more during Diana's class then I have all of my high school and college career. The content is very interesting which makes the work easy. She's an easy grader (I turned my midterm in 4 days late and still got an A). I absolutely love this class and as long as you stay on top of the work and do all your assignments, you will love it too.
To pass this class, all you need to do is keep up with your work! The discussions are easy, but there are so many of them. The two papers are passable too. A lot of people in my class didn't even meet the page number criteria or cite sources correctly, so I assume that you will be fine as long as you don't do what they did, goodness.
very good professor, she wants you to pass the class. most of the homework in on canvas so you can afford to skip class a few times.
One of the best courses and instructors I've taken at EvCC! All readings are posted on Canvas, and there are about two DBs per week. I have honestly looked forward to reviewing the material she posts because it's thought-provoking. Overall, the class has been very manageable and interesting, and she is a reasonable instructor.
I have never taken a diversity class where the credit is earned by expressing your own opinions about "diversity issues" not by agreeing with her opinions. She is the most unbiased and caring professor yet!
I'm always wary of diversity credits since I have some less popular opinions/beliefs but this class handled them flawlessly. Discussion boards are given full points if you meet the word/replies minimum and make an attempt to respond to the prompts. There is a lot of busywork/DB's but they all culminate into helpful checkpoints for your paper
I love Diane shes super sweet but for me structure is key and it is hard to follow when assignment are due, sometimes it feels very random at times. Not every weekly assignment is on the same day of the week consistently and never at the same times. She is very sweet and caring but the assignment schedule is quite hard.
Diane was a fabulous instructor. Any questions I had she would respond to me right away with great feedback. This class held my attention and was far from boring. All topics discussed were engaging and entertaining. HIGHLY recommended instructor.
If you turn in all assignments on time you will be fine. Only graded on 2 papers (1st 3-5 pages, 2nd 8-10 pages) and reading responses, along with few short and easy quizzes. The discussions are based on your opinion so as long you meet the word count and reply to others, it is easy. Extra credit is also given.
Great Professor! Provides many chances for extra credit and very caring! She helped me a lot.
Her teaching style is great! If you have questions she is always ready to answer them. If you are looking for the right 102 English class choose her.
Professor Houston is a very sweet and kind lady, but I dont think teaching is her strong point. Her lectures were long and awkward, and most of the time I never learned a single thing. The work is pretty easy, and she is a very generous grader.
Hands down the best English teacher that I have had. All of the assignments were meant to help you with the first and final paper. The first paper was very easy and by the time that we got to the final paper, we had all of the necessary resources in order to write it. Overall, shes a gem, take her if you want to learn, enjoy class, and succeed.
I took this class online, seemed like a very nice person. No zoom so I didn't actually meet her. There is a lot of assignments but the class is easy if you stay on top of the work. I thoroughly enjoyed the work. I took this as my diversity credit and was able to do assignments on current world problems. Lots of extra credit and gives good feedback.
Prof Houston was very strict on due dates, she was not flexible with this. She gave good feedback on papers. There were a lot of discussions, and 2 papers, one which was worth 40% of our grade. Overall great professor, would recommend
Prepare to have this class overtake your quarter! I dropped it not 2 weeks in due to all the heavy workload. I expect work, but this was beyond too much. COVID seems to have been a big culprit I suspect. Disappointed to not hear back from instructor when emailed prior to drop about the problems faced, and positive feedback. Great content, though.
Diane is a wonderful teacher! Be prepared to do a lot of writing, three essays, and participate in group discussions. Here syllabus provides all the information you need to be successful in her course. She gives great feedback and opportunities to earn extra credit.
I enjoyed this course because I found all of the topics to be interesting. There are two big assignments which are a 3-4 page essay and an 8-10 page essay at the end of the quarter. There was a lot of work for the week but they werent that difficult. The weekly discussions needed to be 300+ words and you need to reply to at least one person.
For her English 102D class our final was an 8-10 page paper I honestly did worse on the rough draft submission (85/100) than I did for my final submission (96/100). So that's really the only big stress inducer of the whole class. But as long as your through you'll be alright.
Professor Houston was by far one of my favorite. She gives amazing feedback and she is very clear and put together for each assignment. There is 2 papers one being 8 pages but if you space it out over a couple weeks its pretty easy. I would definitely take her class again.
This class had A LOT of reading and it was overwhelming at first but Diane is encouraging and explains that the reading lessens as the class goes on. She offered several extra credit assignments which was great and a lot of research as homework that applies directly to the final. Overall great class, I learned a lot and appreciated the content.
Lots of readings and discussions! Just make sure you participate in everything and you should do well!
Best English Class Ever. So easy and interesting, especially if you're doing the diversity section. Everything she assigns helps you out for the essay. The material is engaging and fun to watch/ read. Easy weekly discussion posts for short articles and videos. Grades the essays fairly and there is only two.
Professor Houston does assign a lot of assignments, but as long as you stay on top of them you will do well. There are opportunities for extra credit assignments. Professor Houston shows that she truly cares about her students' success.
I took a class with this professor in the Summer of 2021. Professor Houston had an awesome module with diversity in it addressing so many issues within the world such as racism, sexism, and issues against the LGBTQA+ community. She gave great and clear feedback and notice the improvement in my essays and writings as I go on.
There was lots of assignments and homework but she is a very fair grader, and she's overall just very kind and understanding.
I took English 102 diversity course (online) with Diane. The class was very interesting! There was a lot of reading & writing, but I enjoyed reading all the material throughout the quarter. Diane is not a tough grader, she provides w/great feedback, and she gives extra credit assignments at the end of the quarter.
Professor Houston does give a decent amount of work, the most being around 7-8 assignments per week but all of it is very doable and she is very accessible outside of class. All of the assignments feel very relevant to the skills we are learning but also real-life events and topics. I have taken 2 of her classes and I really enjoy her classes.
Great Professor, currently have her for Spring quarter. The readings she gives out are all interesting and it's a great class, I really enjoy it.
Diane does a really good job making her expectations clear and easily achievable. The second half of the class is all dedicated to prepping for the final paper, which had helped a lot in other classes as well. I definitely recommend.
The prof knows how to effectively use online tools and structure an online class. Generous grader, as long as you follow assignment instructions. She is willing to help and answer questions, and is easily available to answer questions. Only half of the content was even relevant to my degree, but the prof still made the whole class interesting.
Great prof, a decent amount of work, though.
If writing comes easily to you, this class will be a breeze. If not, Diane is very kind and will be happy to help you. Her assignments are straightforward and easy to follow :) She provides a lot of reference material, like MLA guides, examples, etc. to help with your writing which helped me a lot.
This class was honestly so easy, for me the English 101 course I took was super difficult so I was expecting English 102 to be even harder but it is easier. The course is chill, you don't buy anything, there is no textbook, and there's no big exams. You do weekly exercises and little reading responses while you work on your main papers.
Diana was great. She is not a tough grader as long as you follow directions. There are 2 big essays, a midterm and a final the rest are discussions and quizzes for each week. She accepts late work up to 3 days late with 20% point reduction per day. Not a lot of reading. About 3-4 assignments each week. If you do your work you'll get a good grade.
Loved this class, and highly recommend to anyone thinking of taking it. Learned a lot, all of it was relevant to the real world, and there weren't as many writing assignments as you would think. As long as you participate in discussion posts and put in effort on the work, you'll do fine!
Diane is a very chill prof. She provides good feedback and is easier when it comes to grading.
The homework and lectures can be a bit long, but the class is still very easy and practical. The professor is kind, gives great feedback, and responds quickly. She's also a fair grader, so as long as you do the homework, you'll do well!
fare grader
Diane was a very good professor and made assignments very easy to complete. Attendance is not mandatory/graded but many assignments were group based so if you miss class it's a little more difficult to make them up.
Very clear and thorough with expectations. Tells you exactly what she wants in her feedback. Class was structured through weekly readings, and analysis of those texts through discussions and paragraphs. Three overall units, with essays as the final exams. Covered a variety of topics and themes. Would recommend.
Class was pretty easy, Diane was really nice. 3 essays-low word requirement, no final. I liked her.
Diane Houston has a simple structure to her course. She is more about reading, annotating, and analyzing material. You get to choose your own topics as whole. I appreciated her feedback and I felt like she was a fair grader. It's online but the amount of work per week was able to be accomplished with 2 other classes.
Diane is a very kind and caring professor. I had both English 101 and 102 with her and I enjoyed it very much. There was a lot of group work but most of it was very easy and understandable. By far the best professor at evcc!
This class was great, you do have to go every lecture as there is in person assignments that you have to complete for a grade. But only two papers the whole quarter and she breaks them up into mini assignments so you'll have half the big essay done by the time the due date rolls around. For the final essay you pick the topic, super easy.
I love this teacher!! I had her twice, English 101 and English102. She is one of the sweetest teacher Ive had so far. Attendance is not graded, but there are 2-3 group writing assignments after each class meeting. Plus, there are 1-2 online assignments each week. She is very understanding and flexible. Would take her class again.
She's a great teacher, and I'll be taking her again. Though she gave a lot of homework, it was easy and quick to finish. She accepted late work with a reason and graded fairly. I didn't even try my very best and still did well. The only thing I disliked was having to reply to classmates on some assignments, but it was okay. Recommend taking her!
I loved this class. During class the first 30-45 minutes were lecture, the rest of the time was for group work. Diane creates an ideal, unbiased environment to explore and evaluate topics. Would absolutely take again.
