nice teacher, very easy to talk to. has really fun classes..
This was a horrible class. don't take her
Had no patience and class was very boring!
Worst class I have ever taken here. No patience, too opinionated, probably doesnt like you before you step in her class. Started off with over 30 students ended with 12 that should tell you something.
I think the class is pretty easy to understand and very interesting...it is a lot of work though
lectures have very little to do with test material..most of your grade depends on the busy work she assigns, tests make up about 10% of your grade. she's is also **** and over opinionated
Great class discussions but LOTS of work
this class has too much work for a 101. She is a good teacher, has some funny comments. Overall though I would look for another socio 101 teacher that has less work.
WAY TOO MUCH WORK FOR A 101! What the hell is she thinking?
Yeah this class has waaay too much work and the woman is crazy !!
lots of work, class was not really into discussion otherwise would have been interesting, good teacher, makes you think
Not open to other ideas. Seems to dislike everyone. Lots of work, really biased. No discussion. Ruined a subject that has the potential to be very interesting.
seems like the class should be aight
Very nice woman, yet gives a lot of work. Some of her lectures are also hard to follow. Hard tests
way to much work for 101 and grades so hard and not steady with it, not very open to opinions, dont take her
I think that she is a great professor. Okay so yeah she assigns ALOT of work...Welcome to college! what class doesn't have alot of work? She makes lectures interesting and gets you thinking in new ways. This is my favorite class.
Horrible Horrible Horrible!! i cannot stress this enough... if you get... RUN!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! TOO MUCH WORK. TOUGH GRADER.
Hard final, but easy quizzes. She gives ALOT of work but besides that I think it is a good class and she is a great teacher!
SO MUCH WORK!!!! I had to write 8 papers for her class.. tons of reading.. tests are extremely difficult! Does not grade fairly. Walked into class the first day and announced to everyone that she is a ****.. did I really need to know that??
easy class.... helpful teacher... however, be prepared to write a million papers... you will learn alot from her but get writers cramp at the same time.
Loved her classes!!!
very hard teacher. however, she is funny and you leanr alot when you take her classes. they are alot of work but the work is worth it for the knowledge you gain. one of my favorite teachers ever.
I love her classes. There's a lot of work but she's a fair grader. Her classes are actually awesome to goto. What you learn in her classes you will take with you for the rest of your life. If you don't mind writing a few papers, I highly reccomend her.
EXCELLENT TEACHER! I loved her class...and she made it so much fun to go to, and made learning easy. Seems like a lot of work at the beginning but after a while it is so spaced out that it really isn't that much. I would definately recommend her!
This is a great teacher who will teach you more than you can ever imagine! The classes she teaches have a lot of work but the work is not hard and if you keep on task not to bad! She is extremely fair and helpful to all students! I highly recomend her!
She is a good person and caring, BUT, she gives WAY to much work!!!! there are better soci. teachers to take.
I've had her for several classes and she gives alot of busy work, her class will monopolize your time. I would recommend not taking her until she gets her take home assignment load under control. Nice person though.
She took points off my presentation cuz I made the class laugh to keep it interesting. She said I wasn't taking it seriously.WTF!?Her teaching style is repetitive and unenthusiastic, gives way too much work, and the material is mindless garbage. AVOID!!!
Dr. Illig will take points away for disagreeing with her, which is crap...the class is boring, and the workload for a 101 class is ridiculous. Avoid.
She knows what she is talking about and seems she would be a good teacher. Learned a lot about SOCI from her but she assigned entirely TOO MUCH WORK. She also GRADES THE WORK TOO HARD. If a view is expressed through an assignment diffrent of hers you lose points. DON'T TAKE UNLESS YOU WANT BAD GRADE
bring your extremly liberal views to class because thats all she accepts. she is a nice lady but does not appreciate any views that are opposed to hers.
Good teacher, easy to converse with if you open your mind. Alot of the bad grades, I imagine, come from students who dont care to share. Alot of work, but its not a bad thing to get you going in the morning.
Wow I wish all you people would quit your ****ing. She is an awesome teacher. True there is alot of hard work. But uh welcome to college folks. College = Hard work. So yeah if your lazy, don't take her class. But if you want to actually learn, she is the best professor out there.
She will not give you a good grade in her class if you disagree with her view point, which is very unprofessional. Don't take her, she gives a crazy amount of homework. Take Dr. Dunn or Pappas instead.
Good teacher-very knowledgable on the subject. The class is challengening but if you work hard, you'll be fine. DO THE READINGS!
Its a 100 level course for god sakes, the work load is rediculous. If you have no life aka hermit take her but if you do, plan to have your weekends ruined.
Shes a good teacher, but she gives a LOT of work. Be prepared. Doing the readings are good for you but skimming them is fine. I've taken her twice but because of the level of work for an elective class for myself, I wont take her again or any other sociology class for that matter
Very intersting class, guys may not enjoy it, it tends to be very female oriented. She gives alot of work, but when you get to know what she is looking for it is not hard just time consuming.i always wait til the last minute to do the work and I always get a good grade. I recomend the class!
If you pay attention and do your assignments, you should be fine.
DO YOUR READINGS, all essay tests
Dr. Illig is very easygoing in this class, but not EASY by any means. She is a nice lady, is very helpful and wants you to do well. It's a required class if you are a SOCI or CADR major and she knows that. It's all computer work and projects, she made it easy to get through.
Guys she treats the class as if you are a sociology major. I found this class to be a lot of work for a 101 gen ed, I didn't have time to put the amount of work she wanted, it's not laziness, butI prefer to put hours and hours into my major if I'm going to put that much time in . DON'T TAKE HER, way too much work for a gen ed class. Take Pappas
She is absolutly the worst teacher I have ever had, and that is saying a lot. I have had more work in that basic 101 class than in one of my 400 level classes. She assigns things without explaing them and is just a nightmare.
A very nice and interesting lady. But don't slack off, or it will hurt you. Do the readings and the work- they are generally interesting, so it's not so bad. Be willing to work though.
I don't know what everyone is talking about. Dr. Illig is a nice lady. She is just passionate about what she does but she doesn't expect you to live, eat and sleep sociology. She gives a lot of work but #1 we are in college people and #2, it will beneift you. The readings are not history or boring crap. They are actually interesting.
this teacher is by far the worst teacher i have ever had. she is rude, insensitive, and any other bad words can describe her. she gives assignments without even explaining them. when you ask questions, she seems like she has an attitude. i am so glad i am not a sociology major cause she would honestly make me change my major. yea but in sum shes a
This was by far the worst class I had so far. She made it way too hard. All you do are writing assignments(which sounds okay until you see what they are like), and her questions were extremely difficult to understand because she was too worried about trying to make herself sound intelligent. In my opinion, don't take her.
She is not only a total butch, but she gives tons of work and grades like a maniac. Unless youre an english major youre not going to get an A in her class. The readings are interesting at times but they pile up and soon become overwhelming. Oh yea and she is insane about attendance!!!!!
She is the hardest professor I have ever taken. Her class was harder than my 400 level psych classes. She gives you a load of work and a million due dates. She makes you feel dumb when you have to answer questions because she's horrible at wording them and she just wants to sound smart. I say, NEVER TAKE HER!
What a horrible teacher! NEVER TAKE HER...IF YOU DO YOU WILL REGRET IT AND WANT TO KILL YOURSELF!I ACTUALLY HAVE A LIFE BUT SHE GIVES LOADS AND LOADS OF WORK. SHE IS IMPOSSIBLE!
Fair, but very much a feminist that sometimes is negative for learning enviroment especially for males....almost half of my class dropped
She's the worst! Everything everyone with a sad face said is true! DON'T TAKE HER!!! RUN!!! Everyone that has smiley faces like her because they are SOCI majors and have no other choice! RUN!!!
I did not think this teacher was that bad. The class was really fun and interesting! As long as you do your work you should get a good grade. You DONT need to be an english major to get an A...I got an A. She is very nice and easy to talk to about school work! I would deff tell people to take this class!
Fairly biased. However, if you tow her line, and completely agree with everything she say's you'll do fine. Otherwise, count on a C.
Well I heard that she was horrible. I was willing to give her a chance (well required is more like it). She does not clarify her expectations well, and at the same time is pretty demanding work-load wise. Her final last 3+ hours! Nuff said
Dr. Illig is awesome! She does assign a megaton of work, but I learned more from this class than most others at SU. The readings were interesting and definitely analytically challenging. It probably helps to have a feminist-ish mindset and to be able to accept challenges to the status quo. Be prepared to actually think.
Do not take this teacher. She does not know what she is talking about and is bios against males, heterosexuals and everyone eles on this earth that is not a lesbian!
wow. hard class, very biased teacher. i felt bad for the guys in the class, she has a sharp tongue w them and will not hesitate to make you feel rather dumb. harsh grader, unenjoyable personality. dont take!
this was the hardest class i have taken to date at SU and i was taking a sociology of the family course! gives way to much work and grades harshly... DO NOT TAKE!!!
It was a really great class she plays devil's advocate and shows a different perspective. Most definitly a difficult class...should be 4 credits but was worth it.
wow very biased teacher man hater lots of work if your late just dont come cuz she wont let you in unless your a girl grades really hard and unfairly advoid if you can!!!!
Teacher was very hard. I hated her class. Most work I've done in a long time for 1 class. I'm so happy I'm done with her and never have to see her every again. Tests u will not finish along with every assignment she gives you. Shes threatens to walk out on class if u don't understand her teaching. Avoid if possible.
worst teacher ive ever had. pretty simple. just really bad.
Try to aviod! This professor will own your time. If you can't avoid, participate as much as possible in class and do all the readings. I have warmed up to her and like her now but it has been a rough semester.
very hard...she takes too much of your time and does not care about students at all. avoid her classes by all means.
AWFUL! Very biased and doesnt like any opinions that dont agree with her own. Also, very demanding teacher... Seems to think that her class is the only one of importance that you're taking and assigns a lot of work. Avoid taking her if you can.
As a straight male, I can say that I have noticed no bias against me in her classes. Her classes are very difficult, but you learn a lot. I appreciate that she treats students like adults than can handle the responsibility of a heavy work load. It forces you to learn more, you can't coast.
She will OWN your life with tons of reading. However, she knows what she is talking about and I think she grades pretty fairly. Her expectations are clear, expects you to really learn and understand. Just don't tell her shes wrong and she seems like an okay person.
If you're a serious student and want to try and learn then she is the perfect professor. This is college and if you expect to work at a level that reflects that then this is your professor if you want to goof off and pretent you're still in high school then stay away. She treats students like adults and due to this you are expected to perform.
Nice teacher. grades hard and gives a lot of work but very helpful when you ask questions. very willing to help you. semester project is a lot of work. tests are easy. you will learn a lot if you take her. dont take her if you want an easy class. but if you only want easy class you shouldnt be in college
Dr. Illig is not going to be the easiest professor you ever have, there is ALOT of reading for this class and papers to write. Also, the tests require that you do all the readings and actually know what they are talking about. But it's a fun class and you learn alot. You'll just be really tired of writing at the end.
Diane is definitely an awesome professor. She's very open, and if you attend her office hours, she is extremely helpful. She treats you like an adult, and expects you to act/work like one. That being said, this class is a LOT of work. You have to work for your grade. Regardless, I think this is one of the better classes I've taken at SU.
She is willing to help students and generally a really nice person, but I cannot say she is a great teacher. She piles on overwhelming work for a 300 level class. And grades very difficult. Her questions are often broad and unclear, leaving you open for an opinion, but if you do not comply to the views imposed you will certainly fail.
Interesting class at first but its EXCESSIVE reading (4 textbooks). Be prepared to read your life away and if you dont read, be the best BSer you can. Shes very helpful outside of class, class is very draining and lectures with no visuals. Sometimes she gets in her feelings about sexuality so choose your words carefully!
Her class is A LOT of work with weekly papers and 4 readings. However, she is a really great professor. She is tough, but is willing to help with anything you ask her about. If you don't mind having a fair amount of work to do, then I would recommend taking her.
she was very helpful in the class, explaining the material in detail. She was very helpful when I got stuck with the major project. assignments are long but well explained in syllabus. i enjoyed the class and would take her again
Very tough, confusing on parts on the big assignment in the class. However, she is rally nice and open to helping students as much as she can. Do not try to email her questions and such, go to her officeoffice hours to talk to her!
Very tough grader. Doesn't use PowerPoint everything is written on a board. Very helpful outside of class. Emailing is pointless go to her office. Confusing at times and you better be ready to read. There were 4 books to read throughout the semester. Very time consuming not for full time students.
Very nice & Was helpful if you went and saw her in her office but be prepared for a lot of work, had to read four different books at once which got confusing.
Dr. Illig gets a bad rap. I took this class as a last resort to fulfill my minor, but I'm so happy I did. Dr. Illig does require a good bit of reading, but for good reason to prep you for lecture and the 2 exams given in the semester. She genuinely cares about who you are and wants you to do well. Go to class and take good notes and you're fine.
Too much work, I can't keep up, too much reading, I have no time to do anything else. If she didn't give so much work she wouldn't be so bad
Between the 4 textbooks, online readings, group discussions(with analysis forms), bi-weekly papers(3-6 pages single spaced), lecture notes, pop-quizzes(weekly), exams (7 questions in essay format) and final project (12 pages single spaced and 1 hour power point) get ready to have NO time for anything else.
Hardest and most time consuming class I've taken at Salisbury and Im a senior. Get ready to put in at least 10-15 hours of week alone for her class. With papers every week (6 page papers), reading at least 5 chapters a week, group projects, a 12 page paper, pop quizzes, & hard exams STAY AWAY FROM PROFESSOR ILLIG.
Way way way to much work for this class! Lectures are not bad but she doesn't use power points. Honestly don't take her, this should not be a 4 credit class it should be 8 with the amount of work that there is assigned.
This class won't be easy. Prepare yourself for a lot of reading and writing. I barely got a B in the class for a B and higher you will have to work for it. The silver lining is that she is not a hard grader. Tough class but I learned a lot.
Dr. Illig is truly one of the most caring and passionate professors I have ever had. Her classes are A LOT of reading and involve numerous essays and projects but, the work is totally worth it! Soci325 is easily one of the best classes I have ever taken and Dr. Illig taught me so much. If you can handle the workload, I highly recommend this class!
Dr. Illig is a knowledgeable professor who cares about the content she teaches. However, she assigns 5-6 long reading assignments every week and you have to summarize your readings. You also have to do group discussions and have one big paper and presentation. It was interesting class, but you have to invest a lot of work to get a good grade.
Had her for social research. You have to read the textbook and it is a time consuming class. She does care about your success in it. You have a big semester long group project and my partner dropped the class but I still had to do it by myself instead of being put in a group.
A lot of reading and group work. If you try you can pass the class.
Illig attempted to intentionally fail me because I questioned her incorrect math during the lecture. She then gave me the worst grade on every single assignment and quiz, yet when reviewed in class, every answer I gave was correct. Only passed because I went to the head of the department to show proof of this. DO NOT TAKE AT ALL COSTS!!!
She and the department as a whole did not prepare me for a career in sociology. I don't get why there was this big push for capstone projects and papers instead of internships or something actually useful. Most of us can't find a job in the field.
