very clear, fair grader
class is very boring
good professor and good class, you have to pay attention
Go to class do your work, you'll be fine
borrrrrrrrrrring
Class is easy...but VERY BORING.
very easy, but a little boring. Just pay attention and do the easy assignments.

Easy class, do your work on time, some topics are interesting other are ZZZZ
pretty easy class, but very boring teacher. tests not too bad if you study.
go to class, take notes, and study a little... my easiest class by far!
she's the bomb...very easy...light workload...my easiest class by far!!
EASY class as long as you do the work
have fun teaching yourself the course
not a hard class if u pay attention...test questions right from notes
Boring lectures. Hard to stay awake even at 330 in the afternoon. Tests are straight from the notes though and notes are straight from the powerpoint.
Not a hard class; just do the work
Not a hard class but sooo soo soo boring!!!
Nice lady, good teacher, easy class, kinda boring
easy class, the most boring teacher ever...thinks everyone loves computers as much as she does but its an easy A...lots of fluff assignments
MOST BORING TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty boring. Nice lady but there are far easier 204 Professors. Not bad to fall back on if other teachers are taken.
Pretty easy class. Do the work, do fairly well on tests and you'll do fine. Tests are straight from notes- just make sure you study them. She isn't very enthusiastic- which sucked. But she gives good notes and knows the stuff. Lots of small assignments.
booooring...but an Easy 'A' if you do all the work....you have to show up to class because she likes to give in class homework spontaneously...STUDY a LOT for tests
very easy tests, make lots of time for all tutorials and do all homework, will definitly get an A
Easy, but tedious work, boring lectures, tests aren't a cake walk. expect a B with moderate effort
Not the most difficult class. Lots of little assignments, which can really help you out on your final grade. I've done C range on my tests and i still may be able to get an A- or so.
i wanted to kill myself b/c this class was so boring. but if you have to take her, it isnt that bad...probably are easier teachers who arent as anal, but its not a class youre gonna fail or anything
Lending is the best choice for a COB 204 professor. Her tests are not very difficult, and your grade will get a boost from the homework assignments and Access tutorials. The only catch is that her lectures are the most boring lectures you will ever have.
such an easy class...tests are pretty easy too...there's just so much material though...home work and take home assignments count big time towards your grade...only bad thing is the lectures...they're way too boring...i fell asleep in almost every class
Really nice lady, insanely boring though. She's really anal retentive about when assignments are turned in, but otherwise she's pretty easy. tests are kind of hard, study the notes and you'll be fine. lots of in class assignments - so go to class!
looks like Rick Moranis. you know, the dad from Honey I Shrunk The Kids. boring class, but an easy A. I listened in class occassionally, goofed off a lot, NEVER read the book, and ended up with a B.
Boring class, boring professor, first semester taught with UML, and I don't really think she knows what she is doing.
ungodly boring but by far one of the easiest 204 teachers.make sure you go to class and turn in assignments.
Class is not hard, but homework is due every class, in-class assignments happen almost every class. She is sooo boring, but you must go to class. Tests are fair, but she is anal about grades sometimes.
Class can be boring at times, but it's fairly easy if you show up to class, do work. Lots of homework and in class assignment which if you do can all boost your class grade. Test aren't that hard. Overall I enjoyed having her, one of the better professors at JMU
Very nit picky grader. Kind of nerdy. Nice but won't accept ANYTHING late, no matter the excuse. Not an easy A. Easy B.
nitpicky...extremely. boring? to the max. you can get a B, but I am certain that there are better options than this teacher. the bottom line is that you can get a B in probably any cob204 class, and this is one of the worse ones to be enrolled in. VERY LABOR INTENSIVE. way too much BS for a prereq class.
This class was pretty worthless. Insanely boring, and all busywork. I dont feel like i learned a thing. There's an assignment of somesort almost every day so as long as you turn in all of them you should be able to get a B. Take another 204 prof if you can.
boring but take good notes because it helps on the test. when studying for test read the sections in the book that are in the powerpoints and you will do fine.
Snoooooze... Tends to be a little picky on the group projects, but I got an A and I never listened to a word she said (nor would I recommend it)
She's ok..........she kinda cock-blocked me, but she's still ok. Busy work, not real hard, the test aren't that hard, if you study the stuff that are on the powerpoints (which she puts on Blackboard) and you are anal about the projects, avoiding the careless mistakes, it won't be that bad
boooring class. she doesnt know what's going on. she has no idea how to teach. she takes off for every little thing. projects are a pain. but i heard dillion isnt any better.
she has the most annoying voice ever and lectures. test are easy straight from powerpoints and textbook. gives an assignment every week so if you do them you should get an easy B in the class cuz she is a really easy grader. also shows boring videos in class but is a really nice professor always willing to give extra help!!
Prof Lending is awesome! She is crystal clear when it comes to lectures, and her exams aren't that difficult either. My grades however were mainly boosted by hwk, and tutorial projects(extremely easy). No idea why people labeled her as boring, as she tries to get everyone involved. Im also thinking of becoming a CIS minor because of her. Take her!!
your work will be thrown out if u leave to go to the restroom
She is dull. But she is not that hard go to class do the homework and read her slides and you will do fine on the tests.
Not an very interesting class but she mixes it up with videos, in class assignments, group excercises, etc, so it is more interesting than it could be! Lots of grades (tutorials, homeworks, in class excercises). Very meticulous grader, won't allow students to leave class to go to the bathroom or anything and will rip up your classwork if you do!
Forces you to come to class every day even though there is technically no attendance policy. Very dull professor, uninteresting class.
Set in her ways. HW due every class. Cannot miss class because gives in class quizzes and HW. All assignments are very easy, just busy work.
a lot of busy work, but it is really easy. 2 projects (easy), 3 exams, and lots of hw/in class assignments. You should probably rethink this whole college thing if you do not get at least a B in the class. She is really nice, but sooo boring.
The most BORING professor there is. Knit pick when it comes to grading. Easy assignments, but make sure to not miss any details. Extremely emotional during class and will rip up your in class assignments if you go to the bathroom during class...bottom line find a better 204 professor;she's bearable but only as a last resort
i did not like this class at all, she was extremely boring, made the tests harder than they should have been, had hmwk due every class, wouldnt let you go to the bathroom or else she would give you a zero for the day, took points off for tiny mistakes, i dont think shes a very fair teacher,im sure there are better teachers out there for 204
It was an easy class, but she was the most boring teacher ever. Just so, so BORING.
not bad at all. she's really nice and really helpful tests are kind of tricky but there are so many other assignments that theyre not a huge percentage of your grade. i would definitely recommend
Possibly the most annoying voice I have ever heard. I think she really knows the material but would be happier behind a computer not dealing with us. She is so painfully awkward and hard to relate to/pay attention to. You MUST attend every class or you could miss being called on and end up with a 60 in participation.
One of the nicest teachers at JMU. Class is super easy if you keep up with the reading and take good notes. Homework is routinely questions from book, 5 tutorials from Access, 1 Access project, 3 collaboration exercises, 2 chapter tests, and a final. If you're absent, you risk getting a zero for the day if you're called on for a question. Take her!
Read the text, almost everything comes from there. Tests are very fair and she tells you what to expect (do the practice tests). Definitely a class where doing the work gets you an easy A or B and not doing the work...well, doesn't. Makes herself very available for office hours if you need it. Overall a good teacher.
Very difficult to understand, refuses to use powerpoints for her lectures. If you miss notes, that's it there is no way of getting them unless you have friends in the class. Stupid meeting requirement outside of class that honestly does not pertain to the subject at all. Very uninteresting material taught in a very bland manner.
A nice teacher but a little scatter brained. Doesn't post notes online so you need to go to class to get the information. We did a lot of group activities in class, so another reason for attendance. She tries her best to help and most of the information came from the book. If you do your work an A or B is pretty easy.
I agree with the two previous entries about this professor, but I think there is a little bit more to add. Although there is no attendance policy, she issues group assignments almost every time the class meets. She also grades on these...which makes it seem you are being graded on attendance. I could have taken this class online in half a semester.
Extremely easy class! Announced 5 question reading quizzes every week that you complete once by yourself and then as a group. Multiple choice section of the test are the exact questions from the reading quizzes! Lots of in class activities so attendance is pretty much manditory. 4 graded homework assignments. Overall VERY EASY class! TAKE HER!
This class was incredibly useless, and Professor Lending was painful to endure. She is in no way, shape, or form knowledgeable in anything IT related. She dodges questions, grades subjectively, is uncomfortably awkward, and very lazy. I dreaded every second I had to sit down in this class. Get prepared to work hard, learn nothing, and not get an A!
Do you want to be constantly reminded that you're taking a pointless class? Want to hear a teacher drone on about things no one cares about, in what is quite possibly the most annoying voice on the east coast? Want to waste copious amounts of time doing homework assignments that are literally designed to be as annoying as possible? Take Lending!
Quizzes every class that come directly from the reading so if you do that then you'll be fine. Doesn't really give great feedback on access projects which can be confusing and worth a good portion of the grade.
first off, "Dr." Lending gives so much unnecessary work its ridiculous. Access projects take forever and are worth 10 frikin points. class is mandatory b/c you have reading quizzes everyday but lectures are obsoletely pointless w/ ZERO meaning. Tests consist of material she doesn't talk about ever, so that sucks. 0/10 recommend
She's really nice and passionate about CIS and very willing to help. Assigns about 10-15 pages of reading before each class then have a reading quiz on that section every class (easy though) 2 tests and a final, all very straight forward from the book and lectures.
I think you should only take her if you are a CIS major or minor. Pay attention on how much each assignment is weighted. There are quizzes every class on reading but they are generally pretty easy and honestly if you were to fail most of them, it wont affect your grade that much
Dr. Lending is nice lady, but she's painfully boring and has one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard. A 5 question quiz every class that you can ace studying 5min before. Her CIS knowledge doesn't extend beyond the textbook. She's a harsh grader on homework assignments and exams. Overall a bearable class if you approach it right.
Professor Lending is a great teacher for 304. TBH if you listen and class and take notes, you already studied 50% for the tests. The 5 min quizzes aren't hard, just read the chapter and remember the bolded terms. Fun class with lots of examples
Lending talks so slow and is incredibly boring that it's actually painful to sit through and listen to her lecture. The Corona Virus was the best thing to ever happen to this class, since she recorded all her lectures you could just watch them whenever and put the video on 2x speed so she sounds like a normal person and not like a sloth for once.
Professor Lending is probably one of the least CIS-knowledgable professors, or maybe even people, I have come in contact with at JMU. If you were to look up the definition of "pointless, boring busy work that has nothing to do with the subject at hand", a screenshot of her assignments from canvas would appear. To boot, she grades extremely harshly.
Take her for CIS 304! Her lectures can be slow yes, but she truly cares about you learning the material! Definitely would take this class again, helped my schedule breathe by not stressing about this class. Her tests are straight out of the examples and small readings, not difficult! Straight forward assignments too!
A lot of these reviews are pretty harsh. I've had lending for 204 and 304, and I can tell you she's a good professor. 304 is not supposed to be an incredibly hard class; it's supposed to ease you into the major. I don't understand the hate, she explains things well and answers the questions you have. I guess some don't know what a bad prof is
STAY AWAY! The worst CIS professor I have had so far, extremely hard grader. This lady is ridiculous, her exam questions are so vague, you can tell she doesn't even have a solid understand of what she is teaching either. Take from my experience save yourself the trouble, and skip Lending.
Also disregard all good ratings on this professor, one bad rating is worth 10 good ratings. So trust me on this one DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. I wish someone had made a rating like this one before I took this class. This is supposed to be an intro to CIS and I got a worse grade in this class than Java.
Dr. Lending is one of the most caring professors I've had at JMU. Really invested in her students' success and great during office hours. Course was online due to covid but was super organized on canvas which was nice. Tests were really fair (study the textbook) and attendance was not mandatory but graded in class assignments so show up. Take her!
Avoid if you can. Does not teach, very hard grader for no reason. She clearly has no knowledge of the actual topic, and everyone can vouch that we learned zero all semester.
Lending was a fine professor for 304. Reading quiz before every class that is fairly easy if you just skim the textbook before. In class group activities that are graded on completion. 3 projects throughout the semester that won't take you more than 2 hours each. Pretty solid choice if you show up somewhat engaged and keep up with reading.
None of these bad reviews are accurate whatsoever. Too bad she is retiring after this semester, though. Lending was a fantastic professor that stopped at nothing to help her students. If you got a bad grade in this class, then you either did not try or you do not deserve to be in the major/minor.
Absolute waste of a class. Learned little to no practical material that I can apply. Insanely hard graded, yet unable to answer the most basic of information system material. Do pointless group exercises every class. Overall a lazy professor who has miraculously managed to teach 304 for twenty years.
