She's a professor who knows what she's talking about. Although her lecture is all done on Powerpoint, write down whatever she says. Listen to the lecture, read the book, and write down whatever she says is important. If you fail in this class, you're obviously dumb and don't belong in college.
I agree with the last person, write whatever she says- if it's different than the book, her word's gold. She's not very clear, her notes jump around, so if you try to write things down, don't be surprised if you keep ending up somewhere you were before, but with different bullets. History is not necessarily chronological. Personable but confusing
All of her curriculum is power point presentations, which can be boring. She doesn't like being interupted during her lectures. She either likes you or doesn't. Study the review sheets she hands out before the exams, they are very helpful.
Horrible! Lectures make no sense and very often contain mistakes and incorrect information. Incredibley BORING. Not very friendly. Not very intelligent at all, BUT, this also means the class is very easy, if you can decipher her notes. Easy A, just very frusterating. Overall, the worst class and worst professor I have ever had.
Consistently unable to correctly spell or pronounce many words, thereby confusing the heck out you on the quizzes. Woefully inadequate at lecturing. Although she is fun and has a great personality, she really should stick to writing so people don't bang their heads on the desks in frustration through every class.
This was an easy class, all you have to do is listen and take notes. And you will learn. I noticed she couldn't answer a lot of questions, it seemed as though she looked stuff up online and in the book before class and wrote it all down and was just reading it. But you can still learn a lot about art history!
Prof. Lui sometimes wasn't very clear or organized during her lectures and she tends to rush through information. Also, she couldn't asnwer most of the questions unless the answer was in her notes - she didn't seem to have much passion for the subject. I wasn't too hard to pass though - just take good notes. Easy A but I wouldn't take her again.
I love Art but this class was so boring. Ask a question and most of the time she couldn't answer. I can't say I learned a lot in this class even with an A.
Great profesor! Down to earth. She knows how it's like to be a student. Take notes, ask questions. She's cheery and if you show up everyday you do well. It's not physics! T.P. San Jose
She is very good teacher. She likes to share her thoughts and her adventures. Her test are easy and quizzes are not even hard. As long as you listen u will pass.
She screams at us like we are little kids and teaches off topic and sporatically.
This teacher tries her sent, but she can get frustrated easily when people are talking and late and stuff. She gives lots of opportunities to get points and it's pretty east to get an A if you listen to the lecture. She does go off topic and doesn't always have background info, but if you talk to her after class she'll work it out.
Nice lady!Interesting lectures!Attendance is mandatory;you are getting 2 points for each class when you show up.You will need to attend one exhibition and write four-page paper about a piece of your choice+3 M/Choice exams and 12 quizzes.Follow the plan you will be provided with in order to get full credit for your paper!!!
I would like to say that it's easy A;however, you should study for A at least before an exam. There are 2 midterm exams+final.Questions are very straightforward and not hard at all if you learned all this wierd words about other cultures'history.12 five-question quizzes(2 of them w/lower grades will be dropped).Take notes!Exam questions are based on lecture notes!
The first day of class, she explained to us that she got her Art History degree because it was the quickest way for her to get out of school. Her capability of teaching the subject reflects this. She doesn't care about art or art history, and you can tell. Also she CONSTANTLY misprounounces and misspells words and makes up her own nonsensical ones.
Am I glad this class is over for me!!What a terribly boring class she drones on and on and often goes off topic. Worst professor I have ever had I have never had a professor be so unwilling to work with their students when there was a problem. Wouldn't take a class with her again if they paid me! stay clear
I had Lui last semester for 308 and I took her again for 302. She is an excellent teacher and rarely becomes angry UNLESS the class you are in is disruptive and asks too many stupid questions; she then becomes quite annoyed to the point of anger. I have learned alot from her classes and it's an easy A (for me at least).Liked her, took her twice.
Boring tacher and cannot control her class. Entertains everyone useless, stupid questions. Has no authority over class.
Constantly mispronounces words and likes to make up her own facts as answers to questions. She cannot answer any questions that involve actually knowing her subject since she teaches strictly from her powerpoints. Yells at students and has a serious control prob. Passed with 100%, easiest class ever. Would never take her again.
She is a very nice person, the class is quite easy but also not very enjoyable due to excessive note taking which often times leaves very little room to ask questions. Show up, take notes, don't make a scene during lecture (the class did get awkwardly emotional at times), and read your notes before tests and you should walk away with an A.
Worst teacher I have ever had, she does not seem to care about her students, and the subjects she teaches. She is too busy reading off of her power point slides to actually do a good job of teaching, way too many notes.
Great professor! Take notes and don't miss or talk in the class and you'll get a good grade! I find this subject very interesting!
Her class is super easy. Pay attention and take notes and it will be easy. Had 1 project and had to go to a museum for it. I normally don't get a's but this class is an easy A for sure! Very easy to fall asleep in though.
TOOK IT SPRING 2012.EASY CLASS TO TAKE. IF YOU PUT IN THE WORK YOU GET THE GRADE YOU DESERVE. TONS OF EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES. STUDENTS SAY SHE WAS CONFUSING BUT SHE WASN'T, SHE STICKS TO THE POINT AND STUDENTS TEND TO ASK QUESTIONS OFF TOPIC WHICH ANNOYS HER AS WELL AS OTHER STUDENTS TRYING TO GET THROUGH THE CLASS! WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER
She's a little crazy, and she has a tendency to rush through the material. If you miss a class, you miss the notes, she does not upload them online. She absolutely butchers the Japanese language; someone needs to tell her that vowels are pronounced the same way in every word. For exams, be sure to study both the slide IDs and lecture notes.
Class is very boring, no discussion, she hates going off topic. Easiest class I'll probably ever take; got As on tests, essay and quizzes (which are a joke, they're so easy). Lots of EC,so if you're looking for an easy A I recommend her but be careful not to fall asleep, couple of people did. I skimmed the book, mostly studied the pictures.
I try to give mixed reviews, but really, there is nothing good to say. She is unclear about assignments, is totally unable to answer student questions during class, and her tests have an inordinate amount of bogus unrelated questions. She doesn't post notes or do reviews before exams, so if you didn't write it down in class, thats it. AWFUL!
I learned a lot in her class. She does reviews before each lecture which is very helpful. She also gives extra credit quizes which can help boost your grade. Overall I think she does want her students to succeed. She can be a little scattered at times, but not to where it affects the class in a bad way. I would recommend her.
I did not like this class and really feel I learned very little. The teacher just reads the power-point slides. It`s easy but I would not recommend it to a friend. Poor quality.
She's really easy, but really boring. She's terrible at answering questions. She has a script and can not deviate from it, apparently. If you show up take the tests and the the one paper you'll pass. She's really nice, and I hate to be so blunt, but if you really want tot learn something take someone else.
Three equally weighted non-cummulative tests. One easy paper. The rest is weekly quizzes and attendance. Show up. Pay attention. Get an A. Yeah, she mispronounces things and gets history wrong sometimes, but she knows art history.
Mispronounces things 85% of the time. She also does not know the answer to the majority of student questions. I write down what she thinks the answer is and Google it afterward. If you are excited about art do not take her. If I had to write a compare and contrast on her teaching style with other professors, I would not have anything positive to say
Great teacher, will learn a lot about art. Essays are easy. Tests are relevant to her lectures. Don't miss a class and you will do great. She does mispronounce things but laughs at herself and is actually funny. She did give extra credit when she knows a test was super hard and I thought she was very fair.
Easy class, just take good notes & I also recommend sketching the photos from the slide shows. Diane actually makes lecture interesting and adds humor when possible. She also gave extra credit opportunities. I used the book only once, it was not necessary.
Very nice lady. But b respectful or she will make whole classes life HELL. Go to class daily & ontime, gives TONS of extr cred & review ?s, she purp make her notes thorough so u dnt have 2 read book. Hope u write fast though. She wants every1 to learn & pass, only way it cld b simpler is if she took the tests 4 u
Second time I''ve taken her. Every negative comment that can be said still holds up today. A nice lady most days but she tends to raise her voice to make defensive speeches about the info she puts out when it is questioned because she cannot teach or give any in depthaccurate info without reading off her slides - taking away from class time.
I don't think I've ever heard a professor repeat the phrases "Why did I want you guys to know this...?" or 'Why did I put this slide in here...?" on a daily basis before. She's not confident in her lecture & jumps from point to point wo concluding. VERY sporadic in her slide lectures, making it nearly impossible to write important notes down.
She does not like to be wrong yet she mixes up her words a lot. She is forgetful and slightly silly. She is an easy grader and all you have to do is show up. She requires a text book but I didn't look at it once and got an A. Very easy A but not the best teacher.
She can't seem to deviate from reading off her Powerpoint, though she tends to forget her own material for class. She isn't clear on instructions until last minute and requires you to study twice the material even needed for the tests. I don't find it fair that she lets people who don't show up to class take tests late with no penalty, either.
The only professors I've had who were worse than her, well, I dropped the courses. I HAVE to take this class and can't miss work to go, so she was my only option. She blathers on about things for 40 minutes, then tells you not to worry about it, she won't test you on it. I'd rather have a root canal once a week than attend her class, but no choice.
I am in her Online ARTH 300 class. This has been the worst class I have taken in my 60 units. 1. they are weekly quizzes you are only allowed to work on these from Thursday to Sunday. 1 min per question. 2. 2 Mid Terms where she gives you LESS than a min per question. She does not let you review the answers you got wrong even after sending a mass
Her slide shows are super confusing, and so are her studyguides for exams. In one of her study guide, she literally just gave you a list of artists names, and it's your problem to figure out what to study and what to skip. I am an A student with logical thoughts and well-organized study plans, but I can't put up with her.
I cannot believe how long & confusing her lectures are. She is just all over the place. She makes you stay untill the very end of a 3 hour lectures because she can't leave out some unimportant parts. If you are a freebie in Art History, DO NOT take her - she won't define her terms. She told us people yelled at her, well I'm not surprised.
Wish I never had her as a professor. Doesn't lecture, just read off boring slides for 3 hours str8 & gives classes so u don't wanna miss a class. 2 midterms, 1 final & a paper due. No homework. Wouldn't recommend & will never take her as a professor again. Good luck
Lectures are a bit long and could be more specific . Overall an easy class but if you want to get in depth with the material I suggest using the textbook.
One of the worst classes and professors, seems like a nice lady but not a great teacher. Expect to take tons of notes at an extremely fast pace and have weekly quizzes. Material is somewhat difficult so expect to invest a lot of time studying if you want at least a C. Not an easy C to earn let alone A. Strongly advise not to take this professor.
ARTH 300 online with professor Lui was overall a good course. I met her at orientation and at the art museum. Kind lady. Her online course covers a lot of material but it is doable with moderate effort. There was reading, discussions, quizzes, a research paper and 3 tests. I got an A and learned a lot. I would take another course with her.
I took the online class and I was surprised after reading the reviews! She gives many chances for extra credit online weekly reading quizzes and drops the lowest 2. One paper, three tests, as long as you read you will be fine. I enjoyed her class and like her online set up.
the class is very easy. theres no reason to not get an A. but the classroom environment sucks. you might want to avoid.
I LOVED her and her class! I can't WAIT to take another class with her - and I hate both art and history! Best class I've ever taken, fun, interesting, and so so easy. No homework, just 1 EASY paper. I literally did no studying and got high A's on both tests and all quizzes. SO EASY! And very fun and interesting. Best. Class. EVER!
Talks incredibly fast and refuses to wait for students to finish taking notes from the slides before moving on. She also mispronounces a lot of things and get cranky when someone gives a different explanation to a situation than she does. Great for online, not so great for classroom.
By far one of the worst Professors I've taken. I have never seen a professor so dismissive of students desire to learn. If you ask a question that expands on the information, expect to be told, "don't worry about it, it's not on the test". She often misspells and mispronounces terms, and refuses to lecture at a reasonable pace for note taking
Terrible teacher. Refuses to use D2L to post lecture slides, but expects slide memorization. Withholds necessary information until the last minute, Study guide not give til week before big test, info that slides were available online not mentioned until class before test. The worst
One of the worst professor i have ever taken. Makes you read at least 100-150 pages from the textbooks in the span of 4 days but only has 15-25 questions on the quiz. Her quizzes never make sense and is 150% unclear .IF your an A student i highly recommend that you not take her otherwise your GPA will drop. Never taking her again ever.
Absolutely the most disorganized professor I have ever had. She takes forever to grade anything. Doesn't respond to emails for at least a week. Gives pages and pages of reading homework for a weekly quiz that barely contains any of the given assignment.
I am taking her online ARTH 300 class. She is "the worst professor" in all of higher education history. Her weekly quizes cover 10 % of the 100's of pages required for reading(1 min per question). Her style of teaching is nightmarish. The success of her students is the least concern of hers. My advice is "don't take her ever". Major regrets.
This is by far the worst at communicating teacher I have ever had. I still have emails from when class started that have not been replied to. You will not get emailed back if you emailed this professor with any issues that need to be resolved right away. Other than that, this is by far one of the easiest classes I've taken. Quizzes can be unclear.
I highly recommend any straight A student to avoid this class. I took 21 units this semester, and this was by far my most stressful, time consuming class. You will read 100 pages aweek. weekly quizzes must be word for word what book said. The quizzes have multiple answers with same words(good luck guessing which one is right). Run while u still can
I am a 38 year old return student. I have seen a few pretty awful teachers, however I think Diane is by far the worst. She's just like a little girl and wants everything her way. Her style of teaching is input/output. She hates when you ask questions. She gives a ton of extra credit. The material is easy, just do the reading.
Never failed a college course in my life until I took this course, which I assumed was easy when I signed up for it. She has multiple spelling errors in her quizzes and exams, some words impossible to read. Her quizzes do not make sense and sometimes the questions have more than one correct answer. If you care about your gpa, do not take this class
I usually am okay with professors that are disorganized and slightly bad at teaching online, but her teaching style is insane. She doesn't even follow her own syllabus. She was supposed to give us 50 questions on the exam and a time limit of 50 mins, which is already impossible to do. Then, gives us 52 questions on the exam instead. okay.
Shes sooo easy. If you listen to the lectures, youre golden. She gives a lot of quizzes, but theyre only five questions each and simple enough. Also, shes clear about what each exam is gonna have on it. Very easy, just boring. Plus she takes attendance by sign in sheet, so if you skip just have a friend sign in for you.
Professor Lui is very nice, and this class is not a lot of work but what work there is was pretty hard. The quizzes are not easy but with that being said, if you read the sections outlined they will be less difficult. Every week you do the discussion and the quiz. READ the material before you take the quiz and you should be golden!
Get ready to read! With over 30 pages of reading for every lesson and multiple lessons and then a quiz with only 5 question and you have only 5 minutes to take it. Worst professor I have taken, save yourself the stress and don't! There isn't a balance in homework and tests its only tests!
Incredibly difficult course, far more difficult than my computer programming courses. The professor dumps a lot of material for you to memorize, and what is worse is that much of the material will not be in your book. Or she may disagree with the book and wants you to follow her answers, not the books. If you aren't a fast note taker you will fail
Mrs. Lui seemed very impersonal and strict the entire semester. No forgiveness for late work or emergencies outside of the literal wildfires we had during the semester. Requires you to take field trips for a major part of your grade. I have never had to read so much for an art class in my life. Quizzes are harsh. I somehow earned an A, not easily.
Do not take her please she is rude unprofessional. Very disorganized, and contradicts herself in every class. Constantly changing the syllabus and due dates. Half way through no major papers or midterms. The second half as all you points on things you Learned the previous month. 8 quizzes 2 midterms 4 papers 1 final 100 pages of reading a week.
Honestly, worst professor of of all time... she doesnt care about her students, her test are very hard!! And she only gives 50 minutes for 52 questions!! You barely have time to read the question.... about even the usual class time is an hour and 30 minutes. Seriously school should do something about this professor and change her!!!
I'm pretty flexible when it comes to dealing with tough situations but this class topped the cake. Deadlines and die dates were changed frequently, 3 papers were due with in the same week because she was behind on everything. There were alot of quizzes but the worse thing was her attitude.
Horribel teacher, I had her and she is never on time for grading, answer questions via email too late, sometimes doesn't respond at all, and doesn't teach the course well at all.
I took Art History 300 because I thought it would be interesting and my major is Interior Design so I thought I would get a lot of out it..... I did not. She says on her syllabus that she is available via email but rarely does she respond. Her tests are very difficult and the "study guides" aren't that helpful. Way too much reading!!!!!
The class is easy enough to get through if you have a good memory, but its the inconsistency that bothered me throughout the semester. Doesnt use the textbook much, and requires you to challenge certain pieces she repeats to avoid being misinformed. Kind of unprofessional, but good intentions at heart. Mouth shut, phone down, and youll be okay.
Don't take this class. I'm a nursing major and in several difficult classes and just added this online class to get my art GE's completed and that was the biggest mistake of my life. No matter how hard I study and look at the "study guides" which are not even study guides, I cannot get higher than a C- on the tests. She also doesn't reply to emails
Where do I begin? She does NOT answer emails. The reading is beyond ridiculous and get ready to memorize every little fact that you read because the tests are long and you get one minute per question. So you do not have time to look at notes or really think about it. Take this class if you love art and want to read for three hours a day about it.
Didn't answer several of my emails and IF she did it would take a couple of days to get a response back. You will be lucky if she even responds to all your questions in the email. Tests are 1 min/question. Had to explain her own syllabus to her. Relies heavily on the textbook. She will refuse to acknowledge your situation and will not work with you
Easy course to take over the summer or as an 8 week class. Discussions were interesting and quizzes were easy. Exams also not too hard to pass. Would recommend prof Lui.
I'm pretty good about taking accountability, so when I say her tests are awful, I mean it. The timing is fine, but 1/3 of the questions were on pieces or artists never covered, or had sneaky ways of asking. You HAVE to follow her study guide or you'll fail, as her questions can be pointless. Readings should have taken 90mins took 6hours with her.
Lots of reading. Complete waste of time. Do the optional study guides on your computer so you can "search" for answers during the quiz/multiple midterms/final or you're f-ed. 10+ pages of study guides per week. All tests are 1 question per minute. Ridiculous. Tedious. Nothing learned and poorly arranged modules. Take something else if you can.
This class can be a little easy if you are reading the textbook and studying for the quizzes, midterms and the final. The exercises were meh and the paper assignment was tough with the instructions. Professor Lui can be difficult when it comes to emailing her since she takes a while to respond, but she was an alright professor overall.
I absolutely regret taking this class since it required so much reading that half the time did not seem useful in quizzes that are 1 minute per question! I followed her ridiculously long study guide which barely helped me on exams. This class took up so much time from other classes. Definitely don't recommend it, save yourself the stress.
She was the worst teacher that I've ever had. She took weeks to respond to messages, even when I had a medical emergency. Did not fix grading mistakes she made, even when made aware of said mistakes. She acted bent out of shape when people didn't want to go on a field trip during the height of covid. Absolutely terrible! Stay away!
Her class is really easy! You don't rly need to buy the textbook. Just show up, listen to lecture and you'll be set. There's a quiz once a week. One paper for the semester on a work of art. 3 exams in total. She does reviews before each exam. Should be an easy A as long as you show up and take notes :)
My biggest complaint is the lack of communication. I never heard from her the entire semester even after sending at least half a dozen emails. Very frustrating for an online class.
Shes a very very nice lady. you can attend te lectures live and ask questions, or she posts them the day after. She gives you a study guide for everything. Im horrible at history and got D's on the major tests, but due to completing extra credit and having her review my paper, i got a high enough paper grade to even this out.
Prof. Lui rarely posted recorded lectures on time, wasn't always clear on what the quizzes would be about, quizzed us, on occasion, on things from chapters we hadn't read yet, was late to grade and return emails, and marked questions wrong that were correct on the tests. TIPS FOR SUCCESS: All questions on the tests come from the study guides.
I have never been more repulsed by learning about art in my life. I've always been artistically focused, but she made the topic dull, disinteresting, and dreadful. There was something so off about her having a mandatory textbook for the course that she wrote herself... only available to purchase from the link she gave...
Took her for ART 117B at Sac State and I regret it. Diane is not accessible outside of class, course was not organized, had no idea what she was doing and crammed her class schedule by posting her lectures or assignments much later than promised. Mostly discussion posts and exams. I truly tried my best but it was just so difficult following her.
I took advice from another rating before getting into her class, and can confirm that you don't need to read the text book. As she mentions, she will HIGHLIGHT or touch on everything in her tests ... you just have to pay attention. I take notes to stay engaged so that helped me to keep up with everything that she went over. Ask questions. Be nice.
I did not like her
Firstly don't bother buying the textbook. You really don't need it. I've never used it and been fine, i wasted money. She obviously likes what she's teaching but lectures are not engaging at all. She seems pretty condescending towards questions and comments if they don't line up with her ideals.
My first B after a 4.0. I would argue that you DO need the textbook because she went an entire month without uploading any lectures with no extensions on the assignments about them. I found assignments confusing and not related to major points in the material, closed-note and timed exams, and very slow replies/grades. Overall, I wouldn't recommend.
I had Diane for Chinese/Japanese Art History at Sac State. She would go into Canvas and change the syllabus without notifying anyone, would not show up to office hours, and would not reply to emails. I truly believe she has no actual experience with Asian art history as quiz answers contradicted what was in the textbooks.
