Diane Murray is the best professor for math 110a , her tests are straight forward ad no trick questions, before each test she give a problem set that is exactly like the test plus she gives a but ton of extra credit on her test which are already straight forward. I know this is one review but trust me take this class, no better math teacher at GCC
Amazing professor for 110A, straight forward. Extra Credit, if you get a bad grade. thats your fault. shes amazing.
Shes an ok teacher, but I taught I would do well in this class, but I can't becuase gives way too many notes Im just writing the whole time in class and the 2 reviews under me are wrong because she doesn't give a lot of extra credit because she just started giving extra credit and fyi i've always done well in math so it's not my fault
Her lectures are very well organized which makes understanding the material so much easier. She gives many examples of each type of problem. She makes sure you are adequately prepared for each test and you home knowing exactly what you could use more practice on. She is extremely helpful if you have questions even if the question seems simple.
Everything you need to know will be in lecture. She is so patient and such a happy person it's impossible not to enjoy the class. She tells you exactly what to expect on tests. She doesn't want to trick you into a bad grade and genuinely wants all of her students to succeed. So if you don't put in the work you failed yourself.
Dr Murray is an amazing professor! She cares a lot for her students and offers extra credit for every test. She drops the lowest test and dedicates a full day preparing for the exams, uses same wording on exams as she does on the review.
tests are way too hard, nothing like study guides. she talks in an odd way you won't understand she's just odd, would not recommend
Very challenging and gave a lot of homework
She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities for tests that can bump you up from a B toan A. Her tests are pretty straight forward and include even problems from chapter tests at the end of the chapter. She really cares a lot about her students and is super nice. She also drops the lowest test grade.
Tests are very hard, her class is mainly lecture and writing notes exactly from the book, she doesn't review or go over homework problems, so you can stay home and take the same lecture notes from the book. She assigns A LOT of homework and her final was EXTREMELY HARD AND LONG!
Dr Murray is an amazing professor and cares for her students, she gives tons of extra credit opportunities and helps you alot. I highly recommend her, she drops the lost test and two quizzes. She doesnt check the homework but i highly recommend doing it because it will help you. Take her class thank me later.
She is a amazing person in general however the way she teaches can be fixed. She only uses the examples from the book so that leaves you to teach yourself everything on your own. Her test are difficult so you have to give hours after class for all sections covered to pass her tests. Having that said it prepares you for higher math if you need it.
She's really kind, she wants students to pass. But she CANNOT teach, I won't blame her, Math 110 isn't really teacher based, but really book knowledge. But at least and explanation would be helpful, she can't do that. I took it during Fall semester for my first year, 6 credits, was too much to ask for. It went by fast, it had 8 tests, and one fnl
honestly shes a good person overall but teaches straight from the book. she uses simple examples to explain a complex problem and when u actually do the homework, its nothing like what she taught in class. she also gives sooo many pointless quizzes and doesn't go over any homework so you have no idea if your actually doing it right.
good person, but her problem sets distract the the students from actually preparing and learning from the test, since the problem set is not graded for completion it is actually heavily graded, which is weighted as a big chunk of your overall grade. Too many things going on, makes you not actually want to learn about Precalculus.
She's a really nice person. Easy to understand, efficient, easy to contact outside of class. You will WORK for your grade. Wouldn't recommend this class if you already have a busy schedule because there are quizzes every week, homework heavy, and CONSTANT HARD group projects. Tests are very hard and not based on homework. You will learn tho.
Dr. Murray is such a sweet and nice person but the class was so hard. Im really good at math and I had to work soooo hard to get a decent grade. Her tests are hard. She grades tough. She does offer alot of extra credit though. 6 unit class with lots of work. A lot of homework, quizzes, and tests
Pop quizzes, group work in class, review day before tests (points go to test), problem set( long, difficult problems but it is useful to know the difficulty of the test bc they're way harder than the exam), extra credit opportunities(rly bumps up ur grade). Practice all the problems she gives you but if your sched is heavy, I wouldn't recommend.
Shes a great teacher. Tests were worth half of your grade and the rest was homework, projects, and quizzes. She gave a lot of extra credit. This is math, It is supposed to be difficult. No teacher is an easy A, but this professor gives you so many chances in case you mess up.
Terrible teacher. Just reads from the book and gives simple examples that don't help very much for homework or exams. Doesnt go over hw, doesn't go over anything. I ask her questions and leave more confused. Have to teach myself after every lesson. Really makes you feel bad about asking questions to stuff "you should know already" do not take!!
please please NEVER EVER TAKE HER ...
The worst Math professor at GCC. this teacher is sooo bad it's not even funny.
shes okay but has so much useless work that we need to complete. But the only pro is that she gives a lot of EC. too much group activities/work that impact your grade wayy to much. Also what kind of a math teacher gives so many definitions on a test? on my first test i would have gotten an A if there hadnt been 3 definitions worth 30 out of 100 pts
Dr. Murray was a great professor, if you pay attention during the lectures, do at least half the homework assigned you will get an A. The tests are very fair and she doesn't necessarily try to trick you. This class in general is a huge workload; however, she does a good job of explaining all the concepts during class and in the assigned problem set
She knows her material. However, shes heavy on definitions, so get ready for that. Problem sets are useful and I would say the group projects she assigns definitely makes the topics more easy to understand. Challenge days and review days are also helpful, but you got to be ready to learn!
She's a smart lady but does not explain things well. She barely knows how to answer questions that students ask. Her tests are tricky and hard. They are nothing like the reviews. She offers a lot of extra credit and trust me, people need it! A lot of group work and busy work that is unnecessary. She'll ruin your GPA tbh.
Dr. Murray is a great professor that makes a somewhat difficult subject easy to understand. You really have to understand the material (not just memorize or skip the concepts) to do well on the problem sets, exams, which are a bit tough. she gives extra credit. Highly recommend her to anyone who is willing to study. You will learn a lot from her.
Her reviews are heavy, but her tests are way easier than her reviews and I think she does that on purpose to get her students ready. She's patient, she'd be happy to help you during her office hours. She offers A LOT of extra credit, but it's usually during the busiest time of finals week so it's hard to get everything done.
Dr. Murray is an amazing professor that actually (genuinely) cares. She takes her time in order to make sure everyone understands the material. She properly preps you for every test (including the common final). Before taking her class, I thought I was bad at math. She showed me how wrong I was and changed the way I see myself. Best Prof. 10/10 rec
Professor Diane is the best math professor at GCC , she will help you a lot to get an A in the class. She gives a lot of extra credit which helps a lot . Overall she is so respected and she loves what she does!!
One of the best, if not the best, option you can have for Calc. She's super nice and insanely organized/clear-cut when it comes to her curriculum/grading. Dedicates a lot of time for test-reviews and is clear on what'll be on them. Pop quizzes but they're easy if you do the homework. Tests are medium, very doable with the amount of prep you get.
Dr. Murray is simply the BEST professor I have ever had! She answers emails quicker than anyone I know and her online canvas page is organized and is full of review material for exams. Above all, she does an AMAZING job explaining the material. She offers extra credit and has really fun review games before each exam! I can't wait to take her again!
THE WORST! You have a quiz every day, which does nothing but lower your grade. Tons of homework, problem sets, weekly booklets, and hard exams with definitions on them? Definitions on math?? She does a terrible job at explaining, and cant answer her students questions. Also very condescending and passive aggressive. 20 People dropped. AVOID!!!
The best math teacher I've ever had. As long as you do the homework when it's assigned and pay attention in class, you'll be fine and quizzes are literally just hw problems from the previous night, so they should be easy points. Problem sets can be difficult but they help prepare you for tests. Overall a great professor.
Very good
If u take this professor, u are sped and something is wrong with ur brain
Horrible
Awful
Worst
Dont take in ur life. U will regret immediately
Ur the best thank u professor
Sooooooo bad at teaching
Terrible.
Too much for a beginner math class
Terrible
She is extremely annoying, not understanding at all and has perfectionist standards. This online stuff has only amplified that. Expect her to serve a smile with your failure. If you are a type A like her, you may enjoy her personality.
Dont take this class. Beware. There is SO MUCH homework and WORK THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MATH. If you dont do it you will fail. Worst teacher ever. I only signed up because it was the only open math class I needed.
Just dont.
She expects you to have a printer. If you dont have a printer then you have to write it all down by hand which is very difficult during lectures. I found the math journals to be dumb. This is math class not philosophy, why did we have to analyze quotes among other things and have our grade affected by it? She should be teaching high school.
Find a better professor, this one is terrible.
Worst class and professor ever
I hope this professor stops teaching because she is not good at it.
worst academic experience ever.
Attendance is not graded on "attending". There is other work involved. May whatever higher power forbid you have technical issues because there are no second chances. Be prepared to leave this class with a bitter taste in your mouth whenever you are forced to recall the experience.
We have an exam every two weeks. We also had oral exams that you would do one-on-one with her. The worst part was the Khan Academy. It took HOURS to finish those. The math journals were just stupid. This isn't English class it's math. She gave too much busy work its as if were in high school. Horrible
She gives a lot of hw. The Khan Academy work sucks because you need to 100% everything otherwise you'll get a 0. Idk what's the point of weekly math journals analyzing quotes? If you don't take your oral exam before the written exam, you automatically get a 0 overall. Her expectation of us is too high. Take another prof if you can.
For this class you are given assignments such as problem sets(20 pages), khan academy quizzes(depends, either easy or literal hell) and a math journal(easy). You should be fine if you dont leave it to the last minute. She gives extra credit and drops the lowest test grade(yay). She also has oral exams so... do what you will with this information.
Dr. Murray is a quality prof! You can expect a very straight forward, clearly outlined curriculum. Lectures involve pre-outlined notes with blanks that we fill in. She provides a good amount of extra credit opportunities. The course is supplemented with Khan Academy stuff. All in all she's great! Amazing personality and fun! Genuinely love math now
Save yourself the trouble and find another math professor. Lots of homework that dont help on exams and has oral exams. If you dont like math already you will absolutely hate it after this class.
Shes honestly been one of my favorite professors at GCC. Her lectures are really clear and the notes are really organized. Her homework assignments also have step by step examples next to them, making it easier to understand and solve the problems. Yes, it is a lot of work, but if you put in the time and effort you will do well this class.
Not only is there an overwhelming amount of hw (Khan Academy and Problem sets) there are also journals where she gives you a quote and you have to write what it means to you and you have to choose a song every week and talk about it. Has nothing to do with Pre-Calc. She also takes off ptns if you don't answer (correct) questions the way she wants
Horrible. CANT teach!!Goes FAST during lecture, doesnt explain anything. tests are VERY HARD and u never finish. gives mandatory oral exams per chapter(u have 2 b in 1-1 zoom explaining answers to math q's to her which goes towards your exam grade.) TOUGH GRADER, PERFECTIONIST standards, NO online lenience (covid), should teach high school, WORST!
GO TEACH HIGH SCHOOL!!!! gives stupid math journal assignments, unnecessary busywork, EXTREMELY TOUGH GRADER. literally has no mercy towards any of your issues (especially technical ones, since its online).Be ready for khan academy assignments (where u have to get 100% on all for credit), math journals, oral exams, participation Q's on ZOOM
As hard as it is to believe sometimes, GCC is indeed a place of higher education. If you want to slack off while you're here, don't take Dr. Murray's class and don't be surprised when you end up poor as an adult. (just saying) She's a pretty solid choice if you've got the motivation, just don't take her with another hard class in the same semester.
I thought the class was very well organized. Her lecture notes were clear and she would answer any questions you had. The exams were hard but we were allowed to use our notes but only bc it was online. This is a class where the amount of effort you put in reaps the rewards. The honors project was fairly easy too.
I love this woman. She was easily the best calculus teacher I've had before. She gives great notes and her tests are based on that and the review sheet she gives. Pay attention and do the practice problems and you'll get a good grade. Khan academy extra credit also helps a lot.
Grades so hard and terrible teacher
Save yourself the trouble and stress and never take this professor.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. Not everyone who obtains a teaching degree can TEACH, and she's one of them. No wonder almost the entire class dropped her. What does that say about her teaching skills? Absolutely a horrible experience; save yourself the stress and time and find another math professor with better teaching credentials.
TERRIBLE, ABYSMAL PROFESSOR. She is the worst professor at any academic institution ever. EXTREMELY rude, condescending, passive-aggressive, and immature. Does not care for her students whatsoever. GIVES AN INSANE workload every day of class. Makes you do RIDICULOUS unrelated-to-math assignments that make you go crazy. Terrible grader. STAY AWAY!!!
AWFUL! to be fair, there probably are worst professors than her... tests are not based on the HW, you get ZERO FEEDBACK on any of your work until after you get testet, you'll get 11 questions with an avg of 7 sections per question and you'll have under 55 minutes to finish!!! and she makes you do these stupid math journals... she SUCKSSSSSSSS
Do not take this class with her. She just throws notes at you. Writes everything down but does a horrible job at explaining it. She tells us a b and c but doesnt explain how to put it together worst math teacher Ive ever took.
She is very difficult and breezes through chapters thinking she is teaching students but she isn't. While taking her class she works on only the easy example problems. She doesn't really explain much and if you ask and even then she is reluctant about it and gives you a gist. Her class is hard and not as detailed. Would definitely look for another.
Im only 16, so I cant say Ive been doing the college grind for too long, but Dr. Murray has been my best math teacher my whole time in college. Ive taken five math classes now, with this one being by far the hardest/ Despite the difficulty of calculus, all you need to do is follow her advice, showing up to office hours also helps. 11/10 prof.
Take her class if you really wanna work hard and learn something. I am not saying it was the easiest ever, no u have to work for the grade but she gives u a lot of resources and helps with everything. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Her notes and problem sets are useful and also gives extra cred for hw. One of the best math classes Ive ever been in.
Prof. Murray would go over useless notes and easy example problems in class and never went over homework problems. She assigned hours of homework and never graded them. Her problem sets and exams were both really difficult and unrelated to the notes/homework. Starting with 30+ students, there was about 10 of us left at the end of the semester.
Puts pressure on students to keep up with tons of notes. She cares & is available but demands your constant attention. Kind of an egotist, imo... Burnt all my energy on class & didn't have any left for the work! In math, when practice is more relevant than lectures/notes, this teaching style can really set you back! Forces you into office hours.
Take this class! Easiest A of your life.
Amazing Teacher. Easiest A. Would Take again
No homework. Minimal take-home work. Mostly done in class. I would recommend everyone to take this class.
Prof. Murray is genuinely a nice person, but the pace of her class was really fast. Granted I took Calc with her, but almost every single day we were on a new topic that she would breeze through rapidly, and almost like she was explaining it to herself rather than the students. Lotta people dropped cuz they couldn't keep up, including me.
Professor Murray is the kind of professor any student would want. As long as you put in the work you will not fail. She provides you with all of the tools you need in order to pass it is all up to the student to put the work in. She rewards students who put in the work with extra credit. She has office hours everyday and responds to emails quickly.
She's not the worst, but the big problem is that she simply doesn't spend enough time teaching us the material. 1 hour would be dedicated to 1 chapter and then we're thrown into the fire, not to mention her office hours are 1 hour as well. Very little time for students to learn about the subject before being thrown straight into a new one.
Finally passed Calculus II with her after a few attempts, couldn't've asked for a better professor.
Definitely the hardest class Iv'e taken but I would fs take her again. You won't find another professor that gives as much ec as she does, given you have to do outrageous amounts of homework. If you study well, you can get well over 100 on her exams. Go to office hours and don't drop after the first exam. If you're not a hard worker, don't take her
Professor Murray was definitely the hardest Math instructors I've ever had. I used to love math and would pass all my math exams with A without studying. That changed very quickly when I entered her class. But on another note, her extra credit came in clutch. I would average 70% on my tests, but her extra credit would bump me up to B if not A.
Great professor. Gives a lot of extra credit but you have to put a crazy amount of time in for it, so she isn't going to give it out for free. Fair grader, funny jokes during lectures, and just a genuinely kind person who cares about you (I think). Deserves 5 big booms: BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOOOOMM
So, I am currently taking Dr. Murray for my Precalculus A or MATH 110A class. Honestly, all I can say is she is a great professor. She takes the time to answer students' questions and concerns regarding her lectures. Also, there are lot of exams, quizzes, and homework assigned in this class. I hope I pass with a good grade by the end of semester.
Attended her classes the first couple weeks and could not keep up for the life of me. If you're not the best at math or it's been a while I suggest finding another professor. Switched to prof. voit and her format is better suited for me. Sweet though
Professor Murray is indeed one of the toughest ive taken, and for good reason. A lot of homework, but the problem sets, and exams are reflected on the homework. Plus she grants EC on days if you completed the homework. It is your responsibility as a college student to do your part in studying. Go to office hours every time and ask questions.
On foenem professor murray slimed my dog when I was walking outside. He is also a hard grader. Take if your smart perosn.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. Doesn't teach, gives impossible exams, and grades brutally. One small mistake = no credit. I know math and still W'd her class. Lecutres are Literature, not math, and explains nothing. Homework isn't graded, and she doesn't care about students. Feels like she wants you to fail. AVOID IF YOU VALUE YOUR GPA OR MENTAL HEALTH.
This professor never understood if you are disabled or have medical issues I never going take class with this professor I recommend don't take .
I have taken calculus before and had no troubles with it. However, Dr. Murray's course showed me that my knowledge was surface level. I am not the happiest w/ my grade but it is learning experience. A lot of hw daily + can be randomly checked for extra credit. The tests were very hard but possible to get a good grade with a lottttt of studying.
I would NEVER take her again. She has perfectionist standards, penalizes small mistakes heavily, and gives very time-tight exams (11 mostly multi-part questions in 70mins). No flexibility for technical issues, little homework review, confusing lectures, and most of the class dropped. Save yourself the trouble and do NOT take her class.
