This teacher was horrible. Usually it says something when the class goes from 40+ to about 10. She told me that my work was not college level, funny I was in AP english in high school and got A's? I then took someone else, I got an A needless to say..

Mrs Oren was the best teacher ever. Very intelligent lady. She encouraged me to excel while at Delta and on her encouragement as well, I am now attending UCLA. She is honestly too good to be at Delta.

I like her teaching style as it forces you to think. I'll admit I had one problem with her but it was taken care of right away. Overall I'd recommend her. Her grading of papers is fair as well.
Her class was a joy to attend. She is clear and interesting. Students in the class who did not do well were typically, to put it bluntly, idiots. That child who said she got an A in HS English? Duh -- wow, what an accomplishment!
Mrs. Oren is a blessing, very helpful, willing to work with you if you have problems. She ain't no doormat though, she makes you think, makes you envoke things you didn't know you had.
Mrs Oren is not a very clear teacher, she told about 15 of us (me included) to go take the challenge test and we decided to saty in her class instead and now she is giving us zeros on assignments.
This lady is crazy i hate this class. English used to be my best subject and I enjoyed it. She enjoys handing out zeros and putting people down. SHe is very unclear, and the hole class is intemadated by her. DO NOT TAKE HER EVER!!! SHe is very mean and has mad more than 1 student in my class cry.

This teacher was one of the worst I've ever taken anywhere. I swear, please don't take this teacher if you value your carreer as a student.
Good teacher, very nice, very helpful...but very hard. I did superbly in Eng 1A and 1B and i think i probably have a D in her class. She expects a lot of her students and won't let you be lazy. Very fun class, but like i said, quite hard!Good luck!

this teacher took joy insulting me. she wrote a letter and mailed it to me saying i should get disability help becasue she would give me zeros. i took the same class with another teacher, and got an A. poor, poor instructor.
mrs. oren was great. she was intimidating at first and i didnt like her at first. however, all i had to go was get to know her. if i had questions, i just asked and got tutoring. hard class, but you will learn so much. you have to put effort into the class. it's not high school anymore! grow up!

I am so glad i done have her as a teacher any more. everything hat she would have to do in class had to be sad and boring. She could never do anything positive or uplifting. she is by far the wost teacher that i have ever had
I learned alot from her but I had to work hard. If you want to do well get to know her and don't be afraid to ask questions about assignments. Go visit her during office hours if you need help. She is a wonderful person and I appreciate her.

Yeah, I got a B in this class, but she would have random mood swings. I asked her a question and she yelled at me, accusing me of not listening before. She never said anything before and everyone in the class knew it. She is a tough grader and like the others say, prefers atheletes over other students. Most of the atheletes needed tutoring.
I did well in all of my english classes until Mrs. Oren came along. The class was boring and she favored the athletes and would never answer a question. I asked for her help on several occasions and only got a little help each time. She sucked...big time. Don't take this "teacher" you will regret it.
She has the worst attitude of all times. I thought that i have seen it all but until i met her i guess i had not. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR ENGLISH OR ANYTHING ELES FOR THAT MATTER. I only say this to the people that do not like to think negitive all the time. she does.
Oren doesn't know what she is talking about the whole time. Our class was totally full and by the first week she had made so many people want to drop that we were down to about 15 students and after that week by week the others would drom...please do not take her!!!

Shes cool. Dont take her constructive comments personal. she is susposed the only over qualified english teacher @ delta. Do the work, learn from your mistakes youll pass. Best way to pass the class, just talk to her when you have problems.

I have taken her 3 times ENG79 ENG 1A and now 1 D i like her a lot shes great and keeps your attention
Loves to critize work. Will flunk nearly all your papers, however the trick is to do your work anyways, and she'll grade you based on your efforts, not the previous grades you had in her class.
At first she was very nice, but as the class went on she became extremely rude. Almost had an attitude.
I had no problem in her class and I barely did any of the homework. She told my class that she was grading on writing ability. True, she does talk about the athelets all time, but only those who have had grade problems who were able to work them out with her help.
Lets just say atheletes have it made with her as a teacher. As for the smartass aspect, she's got that covered as well.
Very hard has strick grading rules if she doesn't like one thing from ur essay she will grade it as an "F" . Gives quizzes every day. But she is a really nice person but when it comes to teaching she is tough...

This woman is a horrible teacher, she doesn't care about her students and she is an extremely hard grader...there is no free thinking in this class, its her way or the highway! I wouldnt recomend this teacher to even my worst enemy!

If want to learn to write, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME with Oren. Worked hours on my essays. Finally got a few back (3 weeks into class), all 0's. Said my intro was more than 4 sentences long. Realized she never even read them. Asked her if she could read them anyway and help me on spec questions. She said if I need help, I should attend a help workshop.
She wasnt very helpful wouldn't grade some peoples papers just give it back to them with no grade actually she did that with most of the students papers
She was fun, easy and helpful. She taught me to take a subject that was completely stupid, and write a 4 page paper on it with no problem. I can write a thesis like no ones business also. Also, with the mastery exam, I was ripped off by my judges, and she fought for me, do to my writing skills and progression in the class.

Took her class a few semesters ago; I've never had somebody brake my confidence the way she did!
Dropped the class when I got 0s on every paper for tech problems. And she doesnt read or comment on anything other than the technical problem to help you out the next time. MLA was my plm even though Ive never had a plm w/ it before. When I asked how exactly I messed up she wouldn't tell me. I looked in the book 5 times and never figured it out.
Great teacher. Hard class. Helped me out big time with a problem I had.

Nice lady..class was kinda hard because of all of the essays you have to write..pretty much have nightly homework but it's not too difficult..didn't really lecture on anything..basically talked about random things..kinda helpful..for an easier class, take someone else..
I was very exited to be going back to school, and to be in her class. It turned out to be the nost horible class that I ever took. She would humiliate students in fromt of class by saying that there answars are stupid. Most papers are pass or fail, and she often would not tell you why, she would just say read the text book. Really bad teacher.

Fun teacher, can be hash when you talk in class while she is lecturing. You might want to eat before going to her class because if she sees you with food she will make you share ir with the rest of the class. She uses a lot of sarcasm when she gets mad. READ the book and know your MLA format, otherwise she will give u a hard time.
Nice lady (if you're on her good side) but extremely hard to please academically. She makes you read/write A LOT (twice as much as any other professor) and her grading standards are very unclear. Not very easy to approach. Gives many last second assignments that are not clear. Getting C in her class equivalent to getting an A in other's classes.
you should pretty much get the drift of this lady just by looking at the whole 14 pages of comments. I never had any problems with any of my essays. My former highschool teacher is an english teacher here at Delta and I got A's on all my college level papers. This lady gave me a C on one and then she gave me a D for not turning in a rough draft!

She may be a bit more extreme than the others, but she makes sure u kno what ur doing,how 2 do it, & y ur doing it, by the time u leave her class. She teaches very well. It seems difficult, but anything worth anything is a challenge. I loved how she broke everything down & made it so clear & understandable. Her material helps u n every other class2
You will be tricked by this teacher. She starts the semester, having you write journals which were pretty easy but, when it came to essays, it was impossible to get an A. she gave me an F on my first paper and a D on the second. she told me I had poor writing skills, and needed help. Don't take this class unless you already graduated frm college.
She doesn't tell how she grades. She's strict and hard, but you will learn ONLY IF you pay attention and REALLY read the material OVER and OVER and OVER... I got an A in her class unexpectedly. I started out doing bad, but at the end of the semester I did learn a lot of things. Tough teacher but if you pay close attention then you will learn.
There is a mastery exam that has to be passed in eng. 79. I think that Mrs. Oren does a great job in preparing the student for such exam. She is strict but fair. You will know, dream, and teach others on how to write a 5 paragraph essay.
Hard teacher, moody, but definitely gives u a run 4 ur $, wrote 2-4 1 pg journals each wk. 1- 1500 wd essay every other week & 1 in class essay/every other wk. career project that entails a lot of work, and a 6pg paper at end of semester, Strict MLA most papers pass or fail! Final=2 in class essays, 2 hours. She makes u feel stupid!

I keep reading comments that she only gave good grades to jocks, which is funny, because I am a music student and received As on all my papers. Why could this be? Oh, maybe it's because I actually write at a college level. She grades like we attend an actual college, not an extension of high school.

This instructor knows how to teach. Do what is being asked of you and you'll be fine.If you want to learn Prep. Eng. this is the class and teacher to take.
The "jock" thing is funny and so not true. If you're going to take this class prepare yourself to work because it is challenging. She's helpful and you'll learn a lot if you try.
I took her a couple semesters ago, but i could still remember the time she told a student to just shut up!! it was unbelievable but i passed her class with an A anyway. after the master exam, there were literally 7 people left in class!! good teacher but just get on her good side
Ok so I did all my papers, checked them all for errors, made sure they made sense, and all of my papers were good. My mom is a great writer and she even said they were good.... but no matter what i did she never gave me a good grade on them. In the end only like 5 people passed.

Even though she is difficult, she is not doing it to fail people but rather to PUSH people. She is one--if not THE--favorite teacher that I have had the fortune of taking at Delta.

I tried giving this teacer a chance,but after a couple of weeks,I withdrew from the class.Instead of teaching somethng you don't understand,she'll make you feel like you don't belong in that class,or college period.I passed 1A with an A,so I know I'm an okay student,bt I guess u hav2kno everythin in 1D instead of bein taught,otherwise,ur worthless.
She can be very difficult at times. If your a baseball or basketball player i recommend that you take. she is very flexible with athletes. You do do a lot of reading and comprehending. She is really not that bad. Yes you do have to read and do work, but this is college- get used to it. There was homework for every class meeting but it didn't take long, if you do it all and the essays you'll have no trouble passing. She requires her students to write comprehensively, so if you're in college and still can't do this, don't take her.

I have never encountered such a teacher who does not care for the students needs, and does not bother to explain nor teaches. She believes one should come with the knowledge when they reach her class. If you take her you will only be wasting your semester.

According to Oren it is a fact that the world is flat. Supposedly a "fact" is anything that can be proven OR dis-proven! I'm not making this up. She actually said that. Not only did she say it but she marked me wrong on a test because of it! I've looked it up in 4 different dictionaries and each one says exactly the contrary. She's ridiculous!
This is a great teacher. She does give out a lot of hw but not so much where you are freaking out. I dont think the class was very hard, i mean its college, if you cant do homework every night then maybe you should rethink your goals. I recommend this teacher because she also will teach you many things about life.

Is hard to understand what does she wants on the class activities. I always got 0/64, 0/50, 0/10. I told her English is not my first language. I really put my effort to pass this class. But after those 10 minutes Quizzes and 20/80. I just dropped before I get an F.
Absolutely terrible. I wasn't taught a single thing about writing. She mostly goes on tangents about life. If she sees a minor error in following directions on a paper and F will be given. Directions are not always clearly stated. Do not recommend at all.
She's unclear as to what is expected within the class and does not encourage students to ask for help. I felt belittled in her class whenever I had a comment or question. She also grades very hard.

She knows English 1A is a requirement and makes it almost impossible to pass, unless you're a genius, professional writer. Don't bother with this teacher. She's an incredibly hard grader who doesn't always clarify what she expects. She tends to go off topic too. The class is difficult even if you are good at writing papers.
English was my favorite subject till this class. She talks about wanting to help the students (mainly athletes) but is extremely inconsistent with grading and offering help when wanting to go over a grade received on a paper. Must write to her pleasing but she doesn't tell you what that is. Would not recommend at all.
Oren is a great prof. Those who have anything neg to say don't appreciate the fact that she's what a real prof should be: passionate, pushes u to succeed, an expert in her subject. If u realize that early in her class u will have a lot to learn and u will improve. Why do you think you're in college? I'm glad she doesn't give out an easy grade.

She is biased and doesn't teach anything in class ( my class was taught one thing during the whole semester) I have no idea how this lady still has this job and feel sorry for the poor suckers who take her.

Oren is an extremely tough grader. She can tell the students who actually do the homework and ones who just show up, and she grades accordingly. Watch out for random pop quizzes and expect to write a few long papers.
No one thinks they'll pass. Grading is unclear, but assignments at the end of the semester are more heavily weighted. It helps to be on her good side. We read one book and did a report and she flunked mine, I panicked, just save yourself the time and don't panic. I sat through all the F's and the unrelated final. She grades on if you learned. MLA!!

I'm receiving my BA this semester and all my papers have received A's, letting you know I'm not the problem.
She is Awful. The first week of class she seemed really nice. She even brought in cookies. Well the following week became hell and every class after that. I dreaded going.. I wouldnt be @ Cal if it wasnt for her. Sure she pushes + is tough, but it's college! She rewards those who seek out advice and actually do the work. The literature is interesting, and the papers aren't bad. She's @ the level you would expect at a university. I would take her classes over again if I could!
Very rude and tough at grading leaving unprofessional remarks in journals and judging peoples journal posts. I think she hates Hispanics but loves whites and blacks. Made the class read an inappropriate Jeffrey Dahmer story for Halloween. Inputs her conservative political views on the class.
