Nice and helpful, explains things, though there's lots of work, mainly reading.
she was rude and domineering to those whom she didn't like.
Picks favorites, but otherwise friendly. Really knows her stuff, lots of work
She has unrealistic expectations, grades WAY too hard, and picks favorites.
Great prof, easy if you pay attention...very helpful
picks favorites, knows her stuff, willing to help, grades hard. Do what she says!
She chose favorites and made unneeded rude comments to others
Chooses Favorites Easy Grader
Hard to read. Sometimes she's cool, other times she seems to hate you.
Easy grader of papers, nice if she's in a good mood. EASY FINAL!
Class is easy, but she grades pretty hard on papers. Real nice though
grades papers extremely harsh, but helpful to a fault
Takes favorites, borderline feminist, insulted me in one of my papers. AVOID!

pretty good, learn some good stuff, recommended
interesting, wants her students to learn, hard grader on papers
relatively easy class, hard grader, willing to help if you just ask, kind of flaky and weird
Talks to you like you are stupid, but has really high standards for assignments. Helpful if you ask for it. condescending.
This is probably the worst teacher to ever enter a school.

Knows what she's talking about and appreciates discussion and ideas. I have taken 12 credits from her and have learned SO much, but she's not easy.
Cares about her students. Friendly and helpful, but not always available if you want to talk to her. She knows what she's talking about, but you can bet that she'll want you to know it too! Pay attention and you'll do fine.
This has got to be one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Without a doubt avoid her classes. She is boring, asburdly hard, and generally a bad lecturer. Avoid at all costs!
1. Taking this class is a mistake in itself. 2. It moves WAY too fast and there is little clarification on anything! She's a nice lady unfortunately not a great teacher.
I absoultly LOVE prof Rayor. Yes Greek is a demanding class and if you have no intrest in it you SHOULD NOT BE THERE!! You have to have the drive to take the class, and if you ask Prof Rayor for help she will bend over backwards to help you. just ask!!!
This teacher is awesome! She is a wonderful lecturer and knows her stuff. She goes a bit crazy with Greek info, and her papers are tough, but she tries to be helpful with workshops.
the best teacher I've ever had.
She knows her stuff, and she explains it fairly well. However, she can be condescending and mean, intimidating, and she plays favorites. If you take her, make sure you are ALWAYS prepared to answer questions, or you'll pay!
Definitely plays favorites in her classes. She's not one to help you out if you don't already have an excellent grasp of the material. Nice lady, but not one to help those who actually need it. Plus, if you can't answer a question when she calls on you, she can be very condescending.
Awesome lady. One of my fav.profs.Definately knows what she's talking about.Greek can be very complex and complicated sometimes but she's always more than happy to help you out in any way possible.Funny and interesting.Be prepared to be called on and put on the spot, however. She's super nice though.
Awesome prof. She is fun in class and is always willing to clarify and explain more if you ask. The class isn't a walk in the park--you need to work, but if you put forth effort she will recognize it and reward you.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE AN HONORS KID! plays favorites, gives little help, a lot of reading, papers with no direction and too high expectations. Haven't had a teacher ruin my love for a subject since junior year in high school, love mythology but I loathed this teacher...
If possible, take the class with a different prof. The class itself has a lot of potential, but this prof completely ruined mythology for me. She isn't helpful AT ALL. Assignments are VERY vague, you never know what she's expecting until you get it handed back. She wastes class time on tangents. OBVIOUSLY plays favorites.
The "rater" before me basically hit my opinion on the nose. Granted, she's a nice woman, she doesn't go out of her way to be mean or anything, but she isn't helpful at all. Maybe she thinks she's helping, but most times she leaves you more confused than what you were to begin with. She's very indecisive about her expectations on assignments.
Dr. Rayor is super-nice, and very knowledgable. She has a good gauge of how the class is doing and varies the pace of the class accordingly. I might have liked if she pushed the class a little harder, but then some people probably would have gotten lost.
Dr. Rayor was great. Yes, she did play favorites a little bit but I don't think it was reflected in the actual grading. She was very helpful and tailored the class to fit what we needed and our pace. Half of your grade is made up of weekly quizzes which she tells you the content of ahead of time. Not an easy class, but I would recommend taking it!
Her playing favorites is the most annoying thing in the world! It does make the class a bit discouraging especially if you arent one of her top students. It’s a damn hard class! She does help you if you ask for it. Her test and quizzes are pretty easy. She doesnt give out much homework which irked me because I needed a lot more material to practice
Rayor is a great lady. Although I think it's pretty true that she does play favorites, but luckily I was one of them. She's was VERY helpful on the first paper, and if she can tell you're stressed out she'll be even more helpful. Holds your hand at first, but wants you to grow and learn so by the end of the semester she's not as helpful asbefore
I love Dr. Rayor, she is very passionate about Ancient Greece, and is more than willing to share her love with you. While her lecturing can be scattered, she still manages to convey all of the information. Class itself is a lot of reading, 4 500-word papers, and a final. Very helpful during office hours. Hard, but definately well worth the effort!
Not a very good teacher. She struggled teaching and was always stuttering when she was giving a speach. Her lectures did not cover what would be on the test nor did she explain what any of the myths meant. I do not recommend this teacher to anyone. Stay Away!!!!!
Incredibly irritating stutter. Passionate about Greek stuff, but grades really hard because she thinks students must be too. Be prepared for her 4 500 word essays and final-very difficult, extremely hard grades! Sometimes helpful, sometimes could care less and obstinate, esp when you disagree with her
the class was pretty easy for the most part. she does have a very annoying stutter and her lectures are pointless, but she has no attendance policy, so don't go
Yes the course was difficult, but it is an honors course. Lots of reading, having an interest in the subject definately helps. Would reccomend taking either Greek or Latin (Latin especially for the following semester) if truly interested in Classics. Dr. Rayor has favorites (what profs. dont?), but favoritism is not reflected in grading. Take her!!
I don't recommend. She has a very annoying speech problem where she says "et" or something every so many words and "uh" a lot. She acts like she's better then everyone because she is so learned in Greek. Yes she is knowledgeable but she assumes you know everything she's talking about - which is not true for everyone.
Prof. Rayor was a good teacher and I enjoyed her class. She can stumble over her words at times but she does love what she teaches. I had her the first time she taught this course and I didn't find it difficult. It is greek and roman myth and was actually interesting. If u r in need of philosophy gen ed, this will work!
I think she's really nice and is very clear in her teaching and instruction.
Do not take! I enjoyed mythology so I took this class but she makes it a bad experience. Instructions are not clear and she assumes you know as much as her. She strikes down views she does not agree with. What everybody has said about favorites is absolutely true as well. If you can avoid this professor then do so!
She is not sympathetic what so ever. I used to love mythology until I got her as my teacher; worst experience ever. DO NOT keep her if possible.
Does not express her expectations clearly. Expects students to have lots of prior knowledge in an introductory course. Is funny at times, but stuttering is awful. She expects a lot of 'interaction' ie, you will be doing field trips, and group discussions. I was highly interested in mythology before I took her class, but not so much anymore.
Good Prof. Class involves way too much reading. Ask lots of questions and participate and it will help you. Easy class, 2 exams, and 5 quizzes. Take if you like reading ALOT!
For classical world civ. she seemed to have EXTREMELY high expectations of students. She blazed through material and then acted as though every student understood, analyzed, and retained what she said. Very hard grader and seems to want to make everything unnecessarily difficult. I liked the class, didn't like her.
A ton of reading, grades really tough. Quizzes are based almost totaly on the reading, seems to expects students to know everything, blames poor performance in class on the students, unrealistically high expectaions
I loved the subject and the readings. The books and readings she chooses are very interesting. You will do great in the class as long as you keep up with the readings religiously. She goes on rants that kinda/sorta don't have anything to do with class, but if she likes you, you'll like her back. Just make sure to do the readings.
A kind woman, does her job. Very strict but willing to help. Not a teacher you can B.S. with. Good reading material, explains everything very clearly.
Diane was a great prof, very nice and easy to get along with. She loves this subject which shows in her teaching. The class is NOT easy and you must do the reading, the quizzes are off the reading and lecture. She is very helpful but expects you to read and WILL ask questions in class. I would take her again in a minute. Attractive women i thought
The best advice I can give for this Professor is to sit towards the front of the class, and listen. Her lectures on the myths that I knew offered an interesting viewpoint about things I never thought about before. She loves different opinions so never be afraid to just speak up. After her class I ended up switching my major to Classics!
I love Dr. Rayor. She's great if you take an interest and put effort into her class, but if you don't she'll call you out on it. She's extremely helpful in and outside of the class.
Great Porfessor. She was really nice and funny. Brought food to class once, we did a lot of group work and it wasn't difficult.
She was odd. Talked about her son a lot. She was nice but was very harsh on papers. A lot of people would cry from the comments she left on their papers. Likes to make classical world into a Greek language class. (It's not)
She expected us to have a bunch of background information on greek and roman mythology for a 101 class. If you didn't know anything prior to that you were pretty much screwed. If you LOVE greek/roman mythology then take her coarse, she'd love to have you. If you aren't intrested, save your gen ed credits for an easier class.
Dr. Rayor was very nice and helpful. There is a lot of reading and quizzes every friday, but it's easy. Only two big tests and a take home final! I'd recommend this class!
Rayor will seem like a horrible person to many people. She will not hesitate to call you out if you are BSing. If you participate and do the reading then you really shouldn't have much of a problem with her or with the course. An interest with not only mythology but also literature is VERY helpful for this course.
Day to day, it is an easy class if you're even remotely interested in mythology, art, and literature. Professor Rayor isn't afraid to call you out for not paying attention. Extremely tough grader, especially on papers. Can be funny. Prepare to do a lot of reading and be able to make connections from the readings. Overall, I enjoyed her class.
The course required A LOT of reading. The lectures were not very engaging and I lost interest fairly quick, so I stopped going to class and got a C+. She gives quizzes at the end of almost every week, so don't miss fridays.
Pretty nice lady, can be shrewd if you aren't paying attention or didn't due the assigned reading (which is a lot of reading). Tough grader on papers, doesn't like exaggeration, or filler in papers at all which makes it tough to reach paper length requirements.
She's a sweet lady, but she expects a lot out of her students. Definitely read the material and be prepared for class. Otherwise, don't make eye contact or she'll call on you. Really hard grader on papers. Recommend to go to her office hours and ask her advice on papers before you turn them in.
Prof. Rayor is strict when it comes to grading papers and makings sure you do the reading assignments. You shouldn't have a problem with either if you're willing to visit her office hour. She has a wealth of knowledge in her field and makes the class engaging. She is blunt and wants you to improve; I can see why her critiques may be deemed "harsh."
Absolutely terrible class. You have to do SO much reading, and she's such a difficult teacher. She expects you to know what she's talking about even when you haven't learned about it yet. Not recommended.
The most interesting and best professor I've ever had. She makes sure to really highlight women's roles in ancient cultures, something lacking in other history classes. If you speak up in class and take a genuine interest in learning, she'll like you a lot and you'll benefit greatly
You have to do A TON of reading from multiple different books. She goes over the reading by talking about it so take notes on what she says. I never read and just listened to her and I did fine. There is quizzes every friday. She is not the nicest, she can make you feel stupid at times in class.
I really liked this course. Professor Rayor definitely knows what she's talking about, especially when it comes to ancient Greece. Her lecture style is a bit all over the place but if you take decent notes and read the material, you'll do fine on exams.
She's a blunt teacher but she really knows what she's talking about. As long as you actually try in this class, you won't have any problems with her. Going to her office hours was intimidating but I received a lot of help and an A on my paper!
Provides no real instruction for papers, makes her opinions of individual students painfully clear. Teaching style is bland and dry. If you have a sense of humor, you're gonna have a bad time.
Professor Rayor is great! Her classes are very interesting, and she is always willing to help if you ask for it. If you attend class and take good notes, you will have what you need to study for the exams. I definitely recommend her as a professor, and I hope to have her as a professor again!
Prof Rayor genuinely cares about her students and wants to help them succeed and is absolutely there to help you when you need it, both academically and personally. The small class sizes she generally teaches are very conducive to a personal relationship with her as well as a lot of one-on-one help, which has made her my favorite professor so far!
Rayor is nice for the most part, but can be kinda sharp and rude at times. the homework for this class is easy, just short summaries of the plays each time you read one. Exams are tough, she includes a lot of quotes that can be hard to differentiate between plays and characters. Easy class for the most part though, and very interesting.
Knows her material well, expects you to as well. Rayor's classics courses aren't just read and repeat. When you read something in her class she wants you to read it, understand it, and then draw your own conclusions with that. Exams are hard, quizzes are hard, and papers aren't awful. Expect to have a lot of reading.
Rayor is so nice and helpful! Expect a lot of reading for her class, if you don't do the reading the discussions will be difficult to follow, but her quizzes and exams are true to her lectures and her notes so take good notes! She is very caring, nice, and genuinely cares about you as a person and your grade. Going to her office hours will help!
GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Writing the essays for this class is MUCH easier if you go see Professor Rayor in office hours. Also, listen and be respectful and this class should go well! It is a lot of work but is interesting and worth it! Once again, I promise you will do much better if you see her in office hours, she is willing to give extra help!
Dr. Rayor can come off as mean at first, and while she's certainly tough, I really think she's a good professor. She makes you work hard, but she's fair and wants you to learn. Go to her if you need help and she'll give it. Her lectures are great and her passion for the subject is amazing. Ask her about her poetry translations!
Did not mind the class too much. Tons of reading. Quiz every Friday on what you learned that week. Tough grader. Quizzes were very specific and always were short answer.
You have to do papers for this class after you read each book. I enjoyed the class discussions, and she truly makes you think. There is a performance of part of a play, but it is easy as long as you work with your group. I would recommend, and there are no tests. Show up to class for participation points. Ask for help if you need it.
