Diane is a really nice lady but a terrible prof. Half the class doesn't know what is going on in there, and we are so far behind. The problem stems from the fact that she can't clearly explain anything. She constantly makes mistakes that throw you off.
Terrible teacher. She has the uncanny ability to turn something as siple as elementary statistics into a jumbled mess of crap.
Can't teach at all. Makes everything too complicated.
I thought that her class was amazingly easy. She teaches in such a way that even a 5th grader could understand. Her tests are easy as well and are always only on things that she taught you. A+
easy easy class...its like i was back in middle school. Also goes really slow and very felxable! Easy tests as well!
Thank God homework is worth as much as tests or i would be taking this again. She explains things in class, they sound easy, but they you go do the webwork and you have no clue what to do. Shes very nice but not the best of teachers. If you are bad at math, she's not the teacher you want.
Can anyone teach this class? this teacher lacks common sence.
The worst teacher I have ever had! She is a terrible teacher and when students ask questions she responds as if they are stupid. extremely easy class but she make everything more complicated and difficult, read the book! its more helpful than she is!
Beginning stats, in general, is an easy class. If you pay attention in class, you'll understand what's going on. She's really sweet... not the best teacher, but if you need help, she'll do her best to help you. I got an A easily in this class.

I feel like I am in elementary school!
This class was preety easy..Just go and pay attention and do the homework..and if you could get old exams..then the class is cake..cus there almost identical!!! but even without exams you should have no problem getting an A or B in this class
Super easy.....but the teacher acts like were in 8th grade. She writes down absolutely everything she says. It's SO annoying!!
I loved this woman! I am so grateful when anyone makes a math class easy. She always used relevant examples and she is so nice (but a little too concerned about not offending anyone).
MAT 117 is a tough course but Mrs. Richardon is very helpful and her tests are fair. Homework is 40% of your grade and is tracked on Webwork (which sucks). There are 3 tests taken in the math testing center. You can take it on your choice (one) of two days, at whatever time you wish and take can as lomg as you need to complete it and a final exam.
It's not that shes a mean teacher or anything, but she does make u feel like your in grade school again, and she writes EVERYTHING out on the board..i mean WORD FOR WORD and it takes forever to copy. All in all she's a nice professor so if your looking for the most boring class ever, and an easy A...take it
My least favorite course i hace taken, i dread going to this class, shes a nice lady with good intentions but she makes things more hard than they should be, i wouldnt highly NOT recommend unless you want to spend 3-4 hours a week in the tutor center. Avoid, shes terrible at anwsering questions.
Mrs. Richardson is a very nice woman and is very helpful. She also makes class fun by being quite humorous. There were times where I was rolling on the floor laughing. You have to get used to her notes but once you do it's really easy. Also make sure you do webwork because it seems like that determines your whole grade. Tests are very fair!
soooo sarcarstic and goes wayyy to fast
I dropped out becuase none of the stuff we did on webwork were relevant for the test.
As previously stated, Diane is a nice lady but she should be nowhere near a textbook and a classroom. She writes on the board like a mad man, and when you ask her a question she gets flustered. What's in the book is different then the homework which is different then the tests. Unless you have already mastered the material, DO NOT TAKE HER.
The class wasn't that hard for me, but I had already learned most of the material in high school. She does cover the material and her tests are fair, but she's a nightmare in class. She puts every word on the board and can make you feel stupid for asking a question, I did not look forward to this cass! She does help with Webwork if you need it.
Horrible teacher, we bought a book for no reason and to top it off the book barely helps (its not a book that should be used for this level of calc) She has no idea how well or how much trouble the class is having when she teaches, If we ask a question it rarely gets answered in a way that helps. She doesnt understand Keeping it simple!
Single most difficult math course i have taken in a long time. VERY NICE LADY, but not so great teacher. Information covered is taught in a very difficult manner. Spent day and night in the tutor center as a result of her teaching. Exams - don't cover any information covered in the class. Too many notes, and too little actual learning. Beware!
Extremely Nice Lady, but very hard to follow whats goin on in class since she writes EVERYTHING on the board. I had to go to the tutor center after every class so I would understand it better. I would suggest doing all the webwork because it really helps tyour grade in the end. Unless you got a brain for math, this class is pretty tough.
Horrible teacher and hard. Does not care about you just getting her job done. No second chances and is so hard to understand. Treats you like you are in kindergarten. There were only like 3 A's in my class
Just plain awful. When you would ask a question you got a jumbled answer that made no sense. She would repeatly make mistakes when teaching new material then would have to go back and figure out what she screwed up. By 3rd week i showed up just to get the attendence points and learned everything at the tutoring center.
She was very nice, and willing to help if you used her office hours. She gives alot of examples, the test's aren't bad. Overall she wasn't bad just alittle confusing at times. You don't really need the book.
Not a very good teacher, very unclear with answers reguarding any question. Speaks to the students like they are in first or second grade. Test questions are sometimes unclear and confusing. Requires definitions of terms in every section of every chapter. This should be a math class not an english class.
talks to you like you're a kid. do the homework, it makes a big difference. tests are pretty hard you will need to go to the TAs if you want any clarity.
Gives strong, clear examples in class. Do ALL the homework and you'll be fine. Wants you to succeed. Cares about you. Very approachable. Will explain every step in solving problems which puts aside any misunderstanding. Responds to emails timely. Only con: the annoying webwork. Recommended.
This was a good class! she is more then willing to help you if you have a question. sometimes it can feel overwhelming with homework but if you just let her know she is more then willing to push back dates. she is really nice and does want you to succeed!!
Not a fun subject but she does an ok job. Kinda treats you like you're in fourth grade, but for some people thats not a bad thing. Show work on your tests; she gives you a ton of credit for just trying
She is a very nice person, however her teaching style is a little scattered especially towards the end of the semester when the material get tougher. I am not a business major, so this class was kinda useless to me. But,again she was very nice and helpful...oh and she brought snacks to the final :)
Good teacher, very nice person and very approachable. cares about her students and more than willing to help.
The subject gets a tricky but she does her absolute best to help you in any way she can. She's very nice and can treat you like you're a little kid but its not so bad. Tons of office hours. Lots of online homework. Seems like she knows math but still makes a lot of mistakes and seems to have a herd time understanding what students are asking.
Honestly, Diane Richardson is one of the dumbest people I have ever met in my entire life. She can't teach a lecture without her cheat sheet, and even with that she constantly messes up problems, then proceeds to explain to us how she has been up since 7:00 o'clock and how we should give her a break because god forbid a professor teaches 3 classes
She is a very caring teacher, and really wants you to understand the material. Has corny jokes but keeps it interesting:)..Not a hard class if you do the work and pay attention.. SHE ROCKS!!
I took her for the first time this semester. She's an extremely helpful teacher - her office hours are awesome and she actually had quite a few. She takes time making sure you understand everything and is really personable and easy to talk to if you've got issues with any material. I enjoyed her class and will be taking her for MAT 210, also!
She is extremely helpful and really cares about her students. Sometimes she has trouble explaining herself in class but if you go into office hours it helps a lot. She is a bit boring, however, and you really need to go to class in order to understand the material. Overall, she's a good teacher.
She teaches like we are in kindergarten and definitely doesn't tell you why anything is done. Assignments are more of a pain than a learning experience. Class is pretty easy, but it is a waste of your time if you have any previous math experience
i think she means well but isn't a great teacher. she simply writes things on the board and expects it to magically click. she also teaches somewhat like a disheveled high school professor. i think she means well and if you go in and try to get help she will do her best to make you understand. go to math tutoring center, they taught me.
horrible teacher... she esxplains everything in a very weird way and does not help you at all
Confusing and doesn't seem to understand students questions.
Just started 210 and pretty sure i am about to fail with this teacher. Is it just me or does the hw not match ANYTHING we talk about in class?
She is a great Teacher but treats you like a middle school student! Gives examples but copies notes right from text. Textbooks not required to get a good grade though. Her horrible fashion can be quite distracting
MAT 142 is not hard, but if you have a difficult time with math don't take her class. I'm good at it and took MAT 142 for the easy A, and now I spend all my time helping other people in my class because she's incompetent. She'll "explain" the homework to the class and get it all wrong. Its the most frustrating class I've ever had to take.
She tries to help students she just doesnt seem to understand what they need help on. Tests dont match the class material, and tend to be hard. Dont take her if you want an easy class with little work.
Not a great teacher, she talks to you like you?re in elementary school. Tests are hard and way different than homework assignments. Avoid unless you understand calculus without getting help.
She is a good teacher and she does try hard to make sure you understand the material. The only problem I had with this class was that the homework does not really match what she teaches. She calls it "mixing it up", I call it confusing. Take her if you want a nice teacher who cares, but prepare to work hard to understand the material.
Worst Teacher ever, PERIOD. Don't take her. I took the final and it was absolutely NOTHING like the review. She put up a review on webwork and I had it down cold. However, she made the final ten times harder. I couldn't even finish it, because it was so hard. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS.
she is the worst. does not curve and tests are super hard. left out of town for family issue for two weeks right before the final..understandable but did not add points or help grades when students did not understand as a result of her absece. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Do not take this teacher if you do not already understand the material, because she really isn't knowledgeable in calculus. Like a previous poster said, she made the final nearly impossible, but at least she curved it a little. Class is mandatory, which sucks since her class really is worthless.
DO NOT TAKE HER. It's like she doesn't even understand what she's trying to say. I would be able to teach this class better then her. Reviews and homework assignments don't match the tests at all! Every other math teacher here is better.
Worst professor I've ever had. I'm not usually amazing at math but i find myself constantly correcting her mistakes. When I do so she tells ignores my correction and proceeds to teach until the problem doesn't work out then she goes back and pretends like she did it on purpose to show us what not to do.
This is the worst math teacher i have ever had. Her explanations about problems are just terrible. She makes things more complicated than they have to be.
DO NOT TAKE HER!I am taking her for basic stats and thank god I already know the material! She will take something as easy as 4 divided by 2 and make it hell. She is just plain DUMB and should be fired for being an inadequate teacher.Cant explain anything without reading it off of her notes.Worst math teacher I have EVER had!My HS teachers were bett
SERIOUSLY? DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. JUST DROP HER CLASS TO SAVE YOUR GRADE, HORRIBLE AT EXPLAINING. MAKES THINGS 10X MORE COMPLICATED THAN NEEDS TO BE. HOMEWORK AND TESTS ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT YOU LEARNED THAT DAY. SAVE YOURSELF A HEADACHE.. DONT TAKE THE CLASS. SHE NEEDS TO STOP TEACHING MATH
She is certainly not the worst teacher, but she can get confusing at times. If you read the textbook prior to class, you will understand the material better. Other than that, she cares about her students, and she is always available to meet with students during her office hours, so take advantage of it!
Trust me, stay away. She had to be by far the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. She made things way to complicated, she made a seating chart, and assigned seats. Every time a student asked a question, she would single you out for the rest of the class and make you feel like a complete and total idiot. I don't recommend her at all.
She was very very very helpful! Her math explanations were very clear, and she was always willing to help during her office hours. Very awesome math teacher... one of the best I've ever had. Ask questions if you don't understand and she will bend over backwards to help you! Highly recommend! Tests were SUPER easy! Homework was not time consuming!
I loved having her as a teacher, she was very nice and friendly. She cares alot about her students and is very enthusiastic about teaching math. shes very easy to get along with but don't think u can charm ur way to an A. she expects you to take the class seriously, don't come in like im going to do nothing and pass. cause you wont.
She wants you to succeed and will take a poll to see what everyone wants to go over again if necessary. She's available if you have questions and very clear when explaining the material. It's great to see some at the college level actually still care! GREAT TEACHER!!!
Diane was very, very nice. However, she is a really bad teacher. She treated us like we were in 3rd grade, taught straight from the book (while managing to muddy it up), always singled people out and her tests were ridiculous. Most of the questions were not even actual math problems. I do not recommend her unless you have has statistics before.
I love Ms. Richardson. She is an amazing teacher. While she treats he students like they are in 3rd grade she cares about every single one of them. I would recommend her to anyone. Her grading can be difficult but if you do everything the way she shows you there shouldn't be a problem.
Professor Richardson deeply wants her students to succeed, and she'll give you all the options in order to do so. Lectures are fairly boring (rote note-taking on the board with practice problems); she makes sure every student understands a concept before she moves on, -probably best for students new to the subject.
Professor Richardson is a super nice woman, however she should NOT be teaching MAT 210. If you have her for that class I am so sorry. My classmates and I are all totally lost when it comes to her class. Honestly, we are all smart people and were always on the verge of failing. If you have a choice. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
She treats everyone like a two year old. She is really easy but becomes really unmotivating. She will make mistakes in class often and the first few weeks of class you will want to kill yourself it is so rediculously easy
This is without a doubt a hard class, but if you are willing to work at it you will find she is very willing to help you out. It is not simply a class you can attend and pass it requires more work than that. I highly recommend this teacher if you struggle in math because this teacher is willing to help you understand it better!
the professor is very helpful and wants her students to really understand the material. I can't say that the course was super fun but it was alright. be prepared for lots of homework though.
There are way better math teachers at ASU.
I have been a straight A math student prior to this class, now I might not even pass. She is not helpful at all, material covered in class is nothing like the homework or tests, she gives both written and online homework. Stay away from this profesor at all costs or you will regret taking math 210. I suggest hybrid or online it is much easier.
She rushes through material in class (almost all of which is never actually on the homework or tests/quizes). She makes things much more complicated than need be. She seems to assume everyone already knows what she is talking about. Makes you do online AND written work. She is not very competent at teaching. I'd advise switching classes.
Alot of homework, sucks
Seems to genuinely want her students to succeed. That being said I hardly learned anything from her confusing lectures. I taught myself straight from the book(even though she states that she pulls her lectures from the book, she still managed to get me confused). She seems to be a nice woman but is sometimes forgetful and tends to get upset.
She treats us like kids, has redundant examples, loses too much time on one problem and fails to actually teach us the hard material we really need to know for tests and quizzes. Avoid this professor if possible....and never take her as a 7:30am class...this is even more boring
Omg. She was honestly just ridiculous. Lectures are entirely too boring. I don't understand how I survived. Tests were just ridiculous. Half of the exam questions were just concept questions. You have to try very very very hard for an A. However, she really is a sweetheart.
Well... it turns out that statistics is a dry and boring subject. At least Ms Richardson is very helpful and tries her best to make the class bearable. The stuff is all pretty simple if you put some effort into learning it.
Assigns a lot of homework: in class and online. She also spends too much time on one problem and the tests are much harder than the homework. Also, the problems she does in class are a lot easier than the homework. She sometimes gets confused when doing examples. I would suggest getting a different teacher.
I personally loved Dr. Richardson. While she is somewhat unorganized and scatterbrained, her class is easy if you do the work. She's very helpful if you go to her office hours and really CARES for her students. I'd never liked a math class before this one, and I would recommend her class to anyone.
This is possibly the worst professor at ASU. Attendance is mandatory or else she sends academic advisory holds. Easiest class as well as being the most boring class ever, she doesn't know how to even do her own problems most of the time. Steer clear of this professor warning you now.
Super nice woman, but horrible teacher!!! Her lectures are based off her notes and she still frequently makes mistakes. She assigns both online and written homework due every class. She wears pajamas, uses weird analogies, and does not explain anything well.
I kind of hated how this class was set up because it reminded me of high school. attendance is mandatory and notes are taken in class and lots of homework. However, she really cares about her students! My class took a quiz and we all did terrible, but she gave us an opportunity to re-take it and moved back our next quiz. This saved my grade!
Absolutely horrible. She found a way to make calculus even more confusing than it already is. Confused herself in her own examples in front of class. Avoid this teacher if you can. Homework both online, and written every Tuesday and Thursday. Honestly I have nothing good to say about her as a teacher.
This class was pretty bad. There is SO much homework, the tests are confusing, attendance is mandatory or else you're dropped, and she treats her students like 5 year olds. Would not recommend her unless you like to do 3 hours of homework for stats every night.
This class was the most boring class I've ever sat in. Normally wouldn't be an issue, but attendance was mandatory and every second made me want to rip my eye balls out. Has no idea what she's talking about half the time and there was homework due every single day of class. Do not take this class with her.
I thought this class was pretty easy. The key is practice practice practice. The concepts and problems are pretty easy, but you must work book problems. She gives you a notecard for every test. If you write down the procedures for types of problems you can't lose. She is helpful in office hours as well.
SUPER ORGANIZED. I always knew when everything was due and the questions on the tests were exactly what was practiced in class and on the homework. You use the textbook A LOT. You can buy it online or buy the more expensive physical copy. I had the online one and I didn't have a problem, even though I hate learning from computers.
very good teacher, I got A+ at the end of the term.very easy, do not pay attention to it. she is very helpful. suggest it very much.
I don't know why I took this class with her! She is literally the worst teacher ever! Don't get me wrong, she was super nice and all...but sucked at teaching! She literally confused the whole class. When giving examples on the board, she tried making herself understand what she was doing before trying to make us understand. Don't recommend at all.
Attendance is mandatory. That in itself sucks. She moved the class all the way to the brickyard building on Mill Street because she wanted a document camera. Hate her for that. She's not a very good teacher, she doesn't explain things very well. I fell asleep a lot in class. Just, do yourself a favor and don't..
Great person, terrible teacher. She writes the problem on the board and then stares at it because she confuses herself. Also, she'll say random things while lecturing, which have absolutely no relevance. The homework is easy and so are the tests. It could have been worse.
Material is easy, but professor makes it seem like it should be more difficult than it really is. All she does is lecture off her notes and if you have questions, don't expect to receive genuine explanations. 4 tests, easy if you know her notes and did your homework. Never liked stats anyway! Anyway, not very impressed with the math dept. so far..
Don't talk while she's lecturing; she hates it.
She's a great person but I don't understand why she teaches. I feel like stats is easier than she makes it seem, she confuses herself, and therefore confuses students. I can honestly say that I learned nothing in that class. I felt dumb the whole semester in there.
Amazing person and an easy teacher. All you have to do is show up and pay attention and I can guarantee you will pass the course. It's a little dry and there's mandatory homework but she's really organized and makes the material easy.
Sometimes, she over complicates things a bit, especially at the beginning of class. Near the end, she gives you procedures for everything and if you follow those exactly, you should do well. She also lets you bring a sheet to tests. The class is pretty easy, sometimes it's just over complicated by her.
Avoid her at all costs. She makes everything way harder than it is, she confuses herself and her students. She's just terrible.
The class is half online half in person and that is not any way to learn math, but Diane is absolutely useless and if anything confuses you more than just reading the book. I am almost positive I will be dropping the class because every homework assignment and quiz/test I have received 50% or less on even though I thought I was doing it properly.
Diane is useless and has no business teaching others. She skims over material, moving along even though the whole class is confused. If you take her, be prepared to teach yourself the entire course.
Dr. Richardson is probably one of the sweetest, most genuine professors in the math department. Attendance is mandatory, but all you have to do is show up and pay attention because she provides the notes for you. She also provides many examples and willingly answers questions to make sure everyone understands. HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking her!
She is a wonderful teacher. As long as you do the HWs and go to class, you'll do fine! She has a strict attendance policy. Goes off topic here and there, but it makes her likable.
Easily one of the best teachers I have ever had. Puts all the notes, both typed and hand-written, online. Her office hours are extremely helpful. She is a very kind lady, and will stayed past the time stated on her syllabus to make sure everyone got help. Homework is often much tougher than the questions on the test.
Thankfully, her class is really easy because her teaching does not do much to help you. I felt like I was still in high school at times. There is homework for every lecture that must be handwritten, and it is turned in during class so attendance is mandatory. She just goes through powerpoints, and I zoned out because it didn't make a difference.
Avoid. She treats you like you're in grade school. If someone at your table talks, you all get kicked out of class. Lectures are horrible. She doesn't actually teach anything, and the book is not much help either. Makes you waste extra sheets of paper turning in homework folded in half with a blank sheet stapled to it. Seriously, avoid.
Diane is not necessarily the best math teacher, as she can sometimes confuse herself explaining important concepts. But, she is a very sweet and caring person who truly makes the class enjoyable and puts in every effort for us to succeed. I had never taken stats before, but with all of her online notes and resources, I found her class easy.
If you have the option to take ANY other teacher for this class I highly recommend it. She confuses herself in lecture and her TA corrects her most of the time. If you value your sanity don't take her class.
Richardson is a good person, but not a great professor. She takes forever to explain, getting caught on little tangents, and her tests are very hard.
she's cool
So the lectures are boring, and it's not even the subject, really. She drones and then gets lost and fumbles. You can teach yourself the material using her online notes, fortunately. But it's kind of annoying still having to come to class since attendance is mandatory, when you teach yourself the material anyways. And there is a lot of homework.
Way TOO easy. I went to class and just wrote down and comprehended the examples she was showing. HINT: learn exactly way she teaches from her examples, because the tests are very very similar. Oh, make sure to do your homework with effort because the tests are very similar to hw problems. The grade is literally reflected on your effort (SERIOUSLY)
Her lectures are boring and confusing, but If you read the book and the notes she posts online you'll be fine. She is really helpful and has lots of office hours. She cares about your success not only in her class, but overall, and if you are having problems, she will do whatever she can to help out.
She takes attendance every class and assigns written and online homework so be ready for that. I hear that if you go to her office hours she is much more helpful than in class. I got really frustrated with her a couple of times. She also expects that you read the chapter before coming to class and you need to do that to understand her style.
She is nice and always willing to help. There's a lot of hw but not unmanageable. Make sure you know how to solve the hw problems how she shows you as the tests are very similar. The only annoying this is that she is almost too nice to the point that she can't control the class at times, which is mostly freshmen.
Great Teacher. Has a lot of teaching experience and does a great job breaking down the material so the most clueless person in the room can comprehend it. Definitely do the homework and frequent her website often in order to stay on top of assignments. Her website also offers great resources to achieve success in the course. Highly Recommend
I just say this teacher is not good teacher
If you take her its like taking an online math class but worse. I thought i was taking a math class but it turned out to be drawing/ nap class. She is an ok person and tries to help students but she is really boring and almost 80% of the students are either sleeping or drawing. if you pay attention her class is not hard but paying attention is.
I loved her teaching style, describes process then works out examples. Yeah it was pretty boring, but super easy. She gave quite a bit of homework, but it wasn't terrible. Tests are easy, over all easy class.
I actually liked her class. I think shes a very good teacher that just goes off on little tangents sometimes. If you study for the tests you'll be okay. Do all the homework and never miss one and you'll be fine too. I had this class at 9am and it wasn't really bad. Shes very nice and truly cares for her students.
I had Richardson for the in-class part of my hybrid MAT142 class. In class, she just sat back and let her TA's do all of the work. This would be ok with me if her TA's knew the material. When she did help she just made the concept more confusing.
Dr. Richardson is very nice and I feel that she truly cares about her students. Sometimes it was confusing, but if someone asked a question she would explain it really well in detail. Her lectures can be kind of boring, but it's math so what do you expect? There is homework every class period. The tests are pretty easy if you understand the homewo
Super chill class do your hw and the tests will be cake.
she gives you every lecture, every assignment, and even takes notes about what your class talkd about and puts them online. she literally walks everyone through the problems and homework. It was so easy to learn, and it was an easy A. incredibly nice, and if you have any questions or problems email her, she'll get right back to you. loved it. again
Richardson is a slow-paced, wandering lecturer- better to teach yourself the material and work on other stuff during class. On paper homework due every class period is a big pain. However, she is somewhat flexible on due dates. Also, TAKE THE HONORS CLASS, it is the exact same as the regular except maybe one extra problem on tests.
All the homework is online. But you can't skip class because there are in class exercises you do and it is basically half your grade. If you don't understand something, her and her TA's are more than happy to help you.
Professor Richardson is a very nice lady. If you ask for help she will be more than willing to provide it but she can be kind of confusing/ not under stand/ respond to your question fully. Her tests are fair and her grading is respectable. She outlines exactly what you need to know. Relatively easy teacher but in a good way. You still learn.
By far the worst "professor" at ASU. She does not even understand the material herself, much less have the ability to teach it. She gets confused in her own lectures, and half the time comes up with the wrong answer, then the class as a whole needs to restart. She has even given us a seating chart! She would probably fail her own exams!
One of the worst professors I've had. She pretty much reads off a powerpoint and posts everything online so there's no point in going to class unless she is collecting homework. During lectures she awkwardly goes off topic and is terrible at answering questions. It takes her forever to enter grades so don't expect to know your grade before an exam.
Professor Richardson is a great professor. She made me enjoy math, even though I really detest the subject. She was a fun teacher to have and made my semester easier. She's very relaxed and easy to talk to after class and is very likely to help you out if you put forth effort. Expect homework, but it'll only help you with the tests.
This teacher takes most of class to do two problems that are supposed to be like the homework but are seriously toned down versions of the concept. She doesn't help you understand as she expects you to already know previous material. It would be okay to have a bad teacher but the TA is a harsh grader too. Those two combined and this class is awful.
By far the worst professor/teacher i've ever had. Treats students as if they were in kindergarten, takes the whole class to explain 3 problems, talks like she got a D in english 101 at a community college and points out random students for talking when students talking about whats going on on the board because she makes everything confusing. awful.
Professor Richardson is an extremely nice and caring person, but some of her teaching methods and HW requirements were so-so. Not a fun class to take if you are already good at math; she requires every student to follow a step-by-step process and label our steps in the homework assignments and exams like we are in elementary school or something...
Diane is a very unique person. She teaches material the "hard" way and doesn't like shortcuts. She may be confusing in class and even in office hours, but if you show you care and show that you care about your grade, she will be MUCH more lenient. I had a hard semester and since I went to office hours, she let me retake an exam. Overall, love her.
Dont take a class with her as the teacher!! Class is pointless and very hard to follow along with. Takes all class to explain maybe two of the easiest problems from the homework and doesnt explain her work well at all. Just dont take this teacher.
Professor Richardson was one of the nicest professors I have ever had. She truly cared about her students and was more than willing to go above and beyond in order to help if you needed it. She did tend to go off topic and I despised the material because it was so tedious but she definitely made it a much better class.
She is a very nice person, very friendly, but teaching is not her thing. It felt like a high school math class. I just used the book to figure out homework and managed to get an A in the class. I didn't learn much, but it was a semi-easy A. Very boring!
She's teaching my class at MCC and I'm not happy. She chooses the most difficult way to answer an easy problem. She takes the majority of class working on a couple simple concepts then expects us to figure out the rest when we do hw. She often gets answers wrong and the students have to correct her. She puts students on the spot. So tired of this.
She was actually a good teacher, and her homework helped out a lot!
This class is honestly an easy A especially if math is an easy subject for you. She posts notes on her website, so if you don't take notes in class, you can always review the notes that she posts online before exams and you can still get an A. I barely studied for her exams and reviewed by skimming her posted notes. I've gotten an A on all exams.
Not the greatest professor, but SUPER easy class (her tests are easy if you review her notes). Just pay attention in class and you'll do fine.
Really easy class but the teacher is not very good. She wastes a lot of time doing simple things like setting up graphs. She also goes over new material before testing on material already learned. If you're not good at teaching yourself, don't take this class.
She takes attendance so make sure you show up! She talks a lot about nonmetal related subjects so it's a nice break from learning math, BUT if you aren't good at math good luck. She tries her hardest teach you the material in an easy way but it's hard and you have to learn it on your own. Homework is out of the textbook and takes ages to do.
I cannot stress enough how awful this professor is. She chooses one easy problem to explain on the board (which she almost always gets wrong) and then hands out group works and sits at her desk. If you are not ready to teach yourself DO NOT take this class. Also, attendance is a must, he homework problems are like 30% of overall grade! Don't do it!
Her way of teaching is kind of confusing;she does not do a good job at elaborating the work or homework. You have to attend the class in order to do well. I would not recommend her for STP 231. She does not use BB, a bit slow in grading but overall a nice teacher.
Easy material. Lots of homework, only 4 tests and no final. She's okay at teaching, and attendance is mandatory the first few weeks (she makes you get name tags). The only good thing is that all her notes are posted on her website. She takes forever to grade tests so you'll know your grade 5 weeks after taking a test.
This was the worst class I've ever taken. I seriously hated coming to lecture, she's so monotone and boring. You ask her a question and she goes off topic for like ten minutes. DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL
This course has a lot of homework, but as long as you try a little bit the class will be easy. Lecture is very boring and feels pointless because all the notes are put online. For me, it was a mostly self-taught class.
Literally the worst math class I have ever taken. Made me dislike math and I actually like math. Lots of homework. Often did not teach material that was on homework. Lectures were dry, she calls out talking and gets distracted fast. Would not recommend.
Very nice person but not good at teaching/explaining. Homework takes forever. Tests are really short and worth a ton of points. Oh, and you're never going to get your scores back. She is available in office hours but kind of demeaning rather than helpful. Luckily she posts basically everything you need online.
Professor Richardson is such a caring women! I don't know why everyone hates her she is such a great teacher. Goes over every topic very clearly and makes sure everyone understands the topic. Gave out extra credit just by helping her with her technology problems!
This class was depressing. No words to describe the emotions in me over the course of the semester. Listen up. Freshmen level stats should be an easy class. This class was not. We got doped with endless hwk with limited notes that were online, unorganized. Tests would've been easy if she actually taught us right. Very nice woman, bad professor.
Diane Richardson was such an awful professor that I had to withdraw from her course. I wouldn't have failed otherwise, but, at the same time, I wasn't about to spend the rest of my semester ready to tear my hair out. She was so convoluted in her teaching style that I learned nothing. Avoid her if you respect yourself.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. She does not explain things well and gets mad if you ask any questions. Does not prepare you for the tests.
Richardson spends an hour or so explaining two problems. She over complicates concepts and confuses her students more than she teaches. Do not take her. Please. Just don't.
Richardson is such a nice person. She takes any questions that people have in class and it seems that she really wants you to know the material. I thought her teaching style was fine but can be boring at times
She does not explain topics well, and she takes forever to grade homework and tests. She also gets annoyed if people ask questions. I would not recommend her class!!
heavy on the homework. if you've taken statistics before, this class is an easy A, if not, good luck. She makes it seem like she takes attendance but give it a while and she stops paying attention later in the semester. Class is slow and boring, tests were easier than the ones I took in AP stats. shes always willing to help and is rlly nice
Dr. Richardson was interesting. I went into this class with a solid understanding of the topics, be found that she did seem to complicate som topics. If this happens, she is more than willing to meet with you and help you through the course. The homework is usually pretty hard (harder than the tests), so learn from the examples she does in class.
Professor Richardson is the world's most boring professor. I would not pay attention in her class cuz she would just drag on. Nevertheless, i got an A in the class. I would teach myself everything the night before. 4 exams. Super easy, just go through her notes. Homework is also incredibly annoying, due at every class. They're really long too.
This class is boring and annoying. Your grade depends almost entirely on how you do on exams and a small bit on the homework. She gives lots of homework and her lectures are repetitive. The homework is better for learning than the lecture honestly, use the book, it explains things well. But attend class, she does take attendance and grade that too.
Get ready to bring a pillow to class. The only redeeming quality is that she doesn't always take attendance. All info for a test can easily be crammed. Tough grader for homework and sometimes on tests. Offers a very small to no curve
Get ready to start counting the amount of times she says "okay" or "alright"Swear she spends most of time saying those words rather than teaching in a way where everyone understands The amount of homework is ridiculous and you can pretty much teach yourself. Great lady overall but when it comes to teaching Id be surprised if you dont sleep in class
Wish I have never taken her. She made this class super hard even though it isn't. I recommend taking another professor.
I lovedddddd taking her class. She is so sweet and clear to understand during lecture. I am not good with math but I passed with an A. There is a lot of homework but it is not too hard. If you do your homework and pay attention in class, you will pass. She is always willing to help if you do not understand. I would take this class again! :)
Prof. Richardson was the worst professor ever. She is so boring in class its hard to pay attention. She constantly interrupted class because of students talking. There is homework due every class and she will have you do 20 problems and only grade 3 for credit. She wont tell you which 3 she is grading either. Be prepared to have to teach yourself.
She is a nice person however her teaching skills are highly lacking. if your not able to learn on your own you will not do well in her class. prepare for long hours of tutoring and headaches.
Diane is an awesome lady. Unfortunately, she's so fluent in math and statistics that she forgets most people aren't, so she'll breeze through difficult concepts and terms. It does makes the class much harder than it probably should be. Take good notes in class, do the homework and study when the 4 exams come around and you'll be okay.
Main problem is that she can get easily distracted. She may interrupt lecture if another student is not paying attention, which makes it difficult to focus. She also assigns a lot of homework from the textbook, which are worth a lot of points. Her exams are somewhat reasonable and fair, although questions can sometimes be tricky.
I took Prof Richardson my first semester of College at ASU and she was one of the nicest teachers I have had my last 2 years at ASU. Yes, she gives out a about an hour's worth of homework due next class period most days. Her tests are 90% easy if you study and take good notes. She also cares enough to slow down and answer questions.
she is a very lenient and easy grader. only reason to go to class is the in class assignments she hands out and grades. answers to homework are in the online textbook plus instructions on how to do the problems are available with each question. you can teach yourself everything with the online homework and maybe some textbook reading.
This professor does not explain things well at all and ends up confusing everyone on what should be a simple subject. She gets frustrated when people ask questions and does not give concise answers to questions. She gets off topic for a substantial portion of each class, She is awkward, and does not understand jokes. Do not take her class ever.
She has a great personality and is a very sweet person, but she is not a good professor. She is terrible at posting grades so you have to guess what your grade in the class is. It took over a month to get the grades from our first test back. She also is not very good at clearly explaining topics. You have to teach yourself each topic to pass.
Worst math teacher I've ever had. Pointless lectures because she basically only reads from notes that are posted online & does not explain anything new. Gets distracted & will stop the entire class if someone is whispering, even when she is only passing out papers. Took about a month to grade our tests because she refuses to let someone help her.
Horrible teacher. Her homework is graded so weirdly that it's almost impossible to get full credit because she will take off a lot of points for a rather small error (like no graph title). Her class is way more difficult than it should be because she makes you get caught up in the details rather than just understanding the concepts. Do not take.
I do not recommend that you take this class with her unless you have no other choice. She only reads off pre-written notes that will be posted online and will only go over a few examples in class, you are better off teaching yourself. She is a good person, just not a good professor.
This class was terrible. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO!!! She does not help her students. She doesn't teach and goes over minimal examples with no explanation. To pass this class you have to pretty much teach yourself.
One of the worst profs I have ever had. Her homework takes hours. She spent an entire lecture explaining mode. Class is pointless because she explains nothing. Her handwriting is impossible to read. She took a month to grade an exam. I can't stress enough how difficult she is. You can teach yourself, but the hw is beyond useless and time consuming
Class isn't mandatory unless there is homework that needs to be turned in because she just READS OFF PRE WRITTEN NOTES THAT DO NOT HELP A LOT, she gets easily distracted talking about her personal problems, she is never clear on her grading system and we do so much homework but it's worth NOTHINGGG, does NOT help your grade at all. Rating is 0!!!
Probably the worst professor/teacher I have ever had. Way too much homework which was way harder than the tests. She also took way too long to grade exams. For each of the exams, I easily waited 3 weeks or more for a grade. Very dry class- would advise to take online or with a different professor.
She is kinda slow in grading, could have never shown up to class and passed it if it wasn't for all of the homework, not the worst professors I had this semester (my schedule is only morning and night classes). Just look up how to do the problem online when she is teaching and you will save so much time.
Worst Professor ever. Lectures are too boring. She does not care about the class. She never grades. The first test we took it took her a month.
Easily the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. We are 3 days from taking the final and less than half of this semester's homework are in the grade book. She rambles on about notes without explaining anything and gets distracted constantly. There is literally no point trying to pay attention; just teach yourself. The amount of hwork is insane.
I dont understand why richardson is so hated. First, stats is not a hard class. Also, she explains the problems really clearly. She goes through everything step by step and u solve all the problems the same way on the exam. Homework is a lot for sure, but some of it is good practice, since u need to write out all the steps on exams
The final is in two days and she still has not graded half of our homeworks and the test that we took almost a month ago. I know not every professor can be great, but Diane Richardson is an awful reflection of ASU. She is condescending, easily distracted, and conducts her class in an unorganized manner. If every prof was like her, I would drop out.
Not the best at communication, but she posts all of the class notes online and walks you through each method. Get ready for terrible jokes. Quite a lot of homework, but you must realize that is so you can thoroughly understand the material. If you fail this class you have no excuses.
The lectures were pointless, there was little to no help when preparing for tests, and if you didn't go to a lecture you would miss points for the homework and in class assignment that she may not have said to turn in. The only hope for this course was the book and reading math books is tough at best. She took at least 5 weeks to post a test grade
Her class was not too difficult. Her online notes are very helpful and provide you with everything you need to know. Sometimes her lectures can be a little confusing but she is more than willing to help explain something that isn't clear. Her practice exams that she has online are almost identical to the exams so there is no reason to not get an A.
Professor Richardson is a very kind and nice person. She is good at teaching and explaining stats and willing to help you understand. you will have to go over the notes before you do homework because it gets confusing. She gives a lot of homework, so be prepared.
This is not a difficult class by any means. If you do the homework, you most likely will do very well on the exams. However, her lectures derail if she gets distracted and she often spends way longer than necessary explaining the process for some problems, making it more difficult than it needs to be.
If at all possible, take this class online. The material is very straightforward and easy to teach yourself, but Diane's lecturing makes the topics very difficult to understand. She is easily distracted and can be condescending in class. She has a strange habit of constantly commenting on any person who sneezes, trying to get them to take medicine.
My experience with Richardson has been painstakingly frustrating. The class is primarily based off of notes posted online. Diane has major issues with being distracted in class, going off on tangents that have no relevance to the course content, and singling out particular students. I would warn students against taking this course with her.
She tends to talk off topic but if you pay attention and take notes and use the textbook you should be fine. The tests are exactly like the practice exams, study those and you'll have no problem passing. Also she plays favorites
She seems to truly care about the success of her students. The problem is she isn't very good at teaching. She way over complicates simple concepts, making them more difficult than they need to be. She's not effective, but with training she could probably be a good teacher.
DON'T BUY THE BOOK. Instead, go to Noble Library and rent it for free. They have it available at the front desk. Since all the homework is put online up at the beginning of the semester, you can be proactive and rent out the book, take pictures of all the textbook questions, and never come back. All the notes for the lectures are online. No A-/A+
Professor Richardson is very caring. If you are an honors student I highly recommend doing her honors enrichment contract, it was easy and fun! In her regular class, if you do the homework and prepare for the exams then you will do well. It is not a difficult class and she is more than willing to discuss the material with you.
She is an amazing person. But she makes the subject more difficult than it should be. Make sure you read the text book and understand everything on the hw. The test questions can blindsight you. I spent 4 hours on her hw every week. More work than there should be. But she is willing to help and gives you a lot of resources.
I am awful at math and was probably the most scared to take this class out of any of the others. I have never understood math as easily as I did in this class! I took it online in term C so it was a little slower, but the workload was light and it was very well outlines. The tests are easy if you do the homework and practice tests.
It's a standard ASU math class. However, she was accessible and helpful. Each week is a different topic, however there is a new section and home work every day. It's a lot of work but is presented well.
She doesn't take attendance, but she has assignments due in class for points. I have had to correct her a couple times with the material she teaches, so going through the textbook helps. If she says it's "in the grey area," just look for examples online. The material is very easy, and if you do your work, it is an easy A.
If u think this class is even slightly difficult, rethink if college is right for u
12 Homework assignments, 12 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final. Lowest hw and quiz dropped at end. I used my calculator for the whole course and managed to get a low B. You can also use excel and statcrunch. I never used statcrunch but excel helped out every now and then. Quizzes are different than tests on later assignment. google how to use a calc!
Not a difficult class (I have taken Stats before though), but definitely a difficult teacher. She seems like a nice person, but she doesn't know how to talk to students. She can be very condescending and acts insulted when people ask her questions/are confused. Also, she tends to waste time by explaining the intro to a problem or random stuff.
She is a nice, caring person, even though she could be very awkward at times. Gives a lot of homework but is very manageable to complete. Make sure to attend class!
Prof Richardson is very nice, caring, and happy to help. Sometimes she is a little confusing and slow-paced in her lectures, and she doesn't teach how to use excel or calculators to do stats, but she offers lots of lecture notes and resources to help. Weekly written hw and online hw through mylabandmastering. 2-3 tests and a final.
She is a very poor professor. She over complicates the material, and takes forever to get any graded material back to you. She will hesitate as she teaches, and second guess herself. Also she will make awkward conversation and just say anything on her mind. I do not recommend as you can teach yourself the material that you need to know.
Tried to be positive about the class after seeing the reviews. It was okay at first then she got confusing and would be all over the place during lectures. She has made some abrupt comments and is really random and awkward. Exams are good but she takes a long time talking before giving them so you end up with little time to work on them.
Dr. Richardson went on so many tangents. I think I know more about her daughter than about statistics after taking this class. That being said, she does clearly know the material. It was not always conveyed in a way that was easy to understand and the class was very slow-paced, but if you do the homework and go to class, you should be fine.
This professor is the worst professor I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE, YOU WILL DREAD GOING TO CLASS.
This was by far the most extra class I was ever required to take in my life. Not only was the communication TERRIBLE but I had to learn everything on my own. Things that were vaguely addressed in the syllabus were crucial to my final grade. She failed to educate me and failed to set me up for success. It took hours for a response as well.
I say you avoid. People were so stressed & at the end, some people forgot that you have to have a certain percentage done on the weekly HW to pass .. so even if you got a A for the course you still fail and have to take the extended class next semester .. a mess! and the HW takes days to complete. This class had too much unnecessary BUSY WORK ..
This is by far the worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. with how expensive this school is you'd expect to be taught right? well if your taking this class THINK AGAIN! not once did we get any instruction during class. she relies on the online program for EVERYTHING. and treats her students like they're five. You can't leave after tests
Literally the worst prof EVER!!! She never helps you learn the material. Instead she says she's too busy passing back graded papers. She sends the TA's to answer questions but it seems as if none of them have passed any math class in their life. We're given a lot of useless work and the prof is so rude all of the time. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
I took Professor Richardson for STP 231. Her grading was ridiculous - we had only 4 tests and each was worth 20% of our final grade with no retakes or curves. She taught in class, but would get distracted and talk a lot about her personal life. She won't give you a super in depth look at stats, but if you pay attention and read, it's an easy A.
I took this professor online for Statistics and let's say I did not learn one single thing. No lecture videos, slides, information what so ever. Learned what i could from the textbook which was minimal. Bombed my final, first D in a class I've ever received as a student. Literally 8+ hours spent on 15 problems due to lack of knowledge. HORRIBLE.
If you value your sanity at all DO NOT TAKE A CLASS TAUGHT BY DIANE. She is an absolute disaster. Class time is not used efficiently and you will learn more about her personal life than statistics. The test prep material she provides is ALL over the place and although it is not too hard to get an A you will hate your life for the whole semester.
Professor Richardson is super sweet and caring toward her students. Her class is very easy if you pay attention in class and do practice problems/practice tests. The textbook is useful to have but probably not necessary if you have a knack for mathematics. If you struggle, the book will probably be helpful.
STP 231 with Diane is great. Each test is worth 20% of the final grade, but tests have extra points built-in. I skipped 4 homework assignments and still got an A+. Pay attention to practice problems in class, take the practice tests, and you should be golden for exams. Diane talks about her personal life a lot, but I thought it was hilarious.
Diane was terrible. Material, not too difficult, but you must teach yourself. You will leave lecture thinking that you pretty much understand, and you will work on the lengthy homework just to realize she didn't teach you a single thing. Exams, easy; thoroughly practice the study guide. Teach yourself! Use the textbook! And don't cheat on the hw!
Really nice lady, however, this class was entirely independent and the professor (more often TAs) were only there to answer very limited, specific questions. Then they left you alone to do your online class that you had to go to a classroom to do.
Honestly, Dr. Richardson is a fairly boring lecturer and it seems like she isn't sure what she is talking about most of the time. But, if you do need to take STP231, take Richardson because she makes the tests pretty much all of STP231.
AMAZING! Compassionate professor who genuinely cares about her students. Quick response time. While she may give extensions, she is also fair with feedback in regards to telling students the need to move on to the next lesson. I am not a math person, really thought I was going to fail this class, I received tutoring 2-4 times a week for the 8 weeks
There was lots of homework, but this was easy to get full points and provided good practice. She does not explain concepts well, but her PowerPoints make it doable to teach yourself. She also talks about her personal life frequently, but I sincerely did not mind it.
Honestly the worst professor i have had so far. I would not recommend this professor to anyone. Her lectures are extremely unhelpful and it seemed like i learned more about her daughter than about statistics. The class is almost completely independent since you learn nothing in class and have to teach yourself. DO NOT TAKE, youll regret it.
She's a sweet person and cares about her students, if you were unable to do a homework assignment and give her a valid reason on why, she will help you out. If you're not a good test taker, I definitely would not recommend this class. The tests made up 80% of your final grade and if you fail one, then it's game over, no retakes, no extra credit.
Great human being but she lets her personal get in the way of teaching too often. We will be in the middle of class and go off on a rant about how her sink isn't working. If you pay attention to the lectures you'll do fine in the class but she only goes over the easy problems and sometimes doesn't do much to prepare you for tests which are 80%.
This class was 100% self learn through ALEKS. Which i honestly think helped me learn the material better. If you complete your ALEKS work you will get a 100% in the class since it forces you to actually learn the information. The professor always seemed a little rushed but i think thats a normal teacher thing. I recommend this class.
Its pretty much online! yes you attend class but once u take roll u sit infant of a computer the whole class and do math online ! Don't take this class unless u can learn on your own online!
DISCLAIMER: I took this online due to COVID-19. Professor Richardson is one of the sweetest professors I've ever had. Her lectures were a little dry, but all math lectures are. She really cared about each student and was easy to reach outside of class. I would definitely take her class again. The only reason you need the textbook is for the HW Code
Professor Richardson is all over the place. I do not recommend her as a professor. Her lectures were unorganized, she's not good at explaining, and will not answer your questions. Avoid her if you can. She's a nice person tho.
Although I am taking this class during COVID-19, she has easily been one of the worst professor's I've experienced in my life. At the point of writing this review she hasn't spoken or lectured once throughout the semester and whenever we ask her questions, she never answers and avoids giving an answer. She pretty much makes TA's teach the class.
She might not be the best professor but she really does care that you understand the material & tries to better explain things. I don't think students cut her enough slack, yes lectures can be boring but math is boring in general. If you show up, pay attention, LISTEN & ask for help you can easily pass her class.. its college, not rocket science.
This is by far the worst professor I've ever had. I don't even agree with the sentiment that she's kind; in fact she's quite rude and slow to help her students. As others have said, she puts in very little effort into the actual teaching of the class, students are expected to teach themselves. I wouldn't recommend this professor to my worst enemy.
Nice but an awful teacher during COVID. Really not adept w/ technology, still uses a Docu cam. Goes too fast during lec, doesn't answer Qs for students on Zoom. HW/test dates get pushed back due to being so behind. Ridiculous technical issues that prevented students from taking proctored exams/quizzes. ASU changed prof last min to her. DON'T TAKE!
Disclaimer: Taken online due to COVID-19 She is honestly super nice and one of the most understanding professors I've had. The test were nearly identical to the homework with most of them just being the same questions as the ones on ALEKS just with different numbers. The group problems were annoying though.
Goes off topic frequently, does not caption her videos or edit them properly, jumps around class topics, relies heavily on Youtube videos, puts things on the test that aren't covered in class or on the homework, and speaks to students like they're in middle school.
The online Pearson program kind of sucks for exams which she makes it 60% of your grade. The extra credit points is what helped me pass. Lectures were kind of confusing and so was the PowerPoints but statcrunch and problems helped on the homework. The TA was helpful and Professor had office hours but technical difficulties were there.
Professor Richardson is a nice person and does show to care for students but she just doesn't know how to teach. I had her for online and understanding the material was really hard with her, usually I had to learn it myself through YouTube and other sources. She wasn't made to teach online and it showed in class and reflected on students.
I took her stats class even after reading the reviews. No regrets. Easy material & able to get ahead. No surprise questions on exams. If you did the practice tests, your exams should be good. Richardson provided extra learning materials on top of lecture videos, like step by steps on calculator or excel, which was cool. She was unproblematic.
This class was just a big meh. She went off track a lot. Her lectures were long and rambling. Mediocre, at best.
Easy class, easy grader, poor at teaching.
Her teaching is horrible, and its so hard to catch up or review because her canvas page is an absolute mess
She puts out so many resources on her canvas page and responds quickly to emails. She isn't a tough grader at all. You can also work ahead on your own time if you want because all the chapters and powerpoints are posted on canvas. As long as you follow along with the homework and powerpoints you should be good!
If you have to take this course, avoid this professor. Her lectures are long and she does not take enough time to make sure students understand the material. She goes through lectures too quickly and can't keep the student's attention. Many students learned the material better on their own than actually attending her class.
Her teaching style was awful. She often rambled and didn't explain things well. Tests are worth 80% of your grade with no curve. The tests also often had errors and weirdly worded questions no one understood. However, she lets you use a cheat sheet for the exams which helped. She wasn't terrible, but take someone else better if you can.
Statistics isn't a hard class, but having Professor Richardson's made it more difficult. In lectures, she would often ramble and go off-topic. Her canvas page was also a mess so it's difficult to find what you're looking for. Though tests are 80% of your grade, you can earn extra credit on those. Utilize her practice exams to succeed in her class.
Avoid this class if you can. Prof doesn't teach. Expect to teach yourself. Doesn't help you at all, relies on other prof's videos/lectures to teach. Kept getting problems wrong because she likes you to do things "her way" even though the hw is textbook based. Hw very different from exams. Exams are 70% of your grade, fill in the blank, proctored.
Very responsive to student questions. However, a little distractable overall. It can be hard to generalize what she's saying at times. Very nice though. Cheat sheets were allowed on a couple of the tests.
I really like statistics, but taking it with Professor Richardson was very confusing. She was nicer at the beginning of the semester but got off-track a lot. She does like answering questions but you don't always get the answer you need.
If you're looking for an easy A or B, take prof Richardson. This class is a do-it-yourself class. We learned all the material off ALEKS, so whether you show up to class or not doesn't necessarily matter. Don't rely on Richardson for anything or expect her to genuinely help you.
Honestly a bad professor. Poorly organized, unnecessarily long lectures, and teaches manual methods to do things that should simply be done on a calculator. 3 unit exams worth 60% of the grade, with long ass review quizzes for each. Lowest HW and quiz grade dropped. Unable to see grade at end of class. Only watch calculator videos for Unit 3.
WORST PROF TO EXSIST. Avoid at all cost. Was very rude to all students and did not grade like any other MAT117 professors. Offers 0 extra credit. This is a course learned on ALEKS and if you ask for help she will very rudely send you off to a TA. Does not care if you're failing. If you are assigned this teacher do everything to change it.
She didnt really know any of the answers to my questions. The whole class is taught on ALEKS I would just do an online class and teach yourself.
Professor Richardson was super understanding and kind. However, her lectures were kind of all over the place if you will. The homework was redundant and not too useful in my opinion (but easy). The tests were overall pretty doable and straight forward. Work on her practice exams and aim to do good on the actual exams then you will be all set!
Prof. Richardson was helpful last semester, her lectures were pretty direct and straight forward, and although Statistics wasn't an easy subject, she helped a lot. Also, she offers good extra credit in the exams and teaches how to do the things, not just digitalizing it on a calculator. Finally, although not said in the syllabus, an A+ can be given
The practice tests and slides were helpful. The lectures, however, were usually not helpful and often over complicated the material. Make sure to take good notes and do the practice tests. The grading was sometimes harsh. (Taking points off for forgetting the title of a graph, for example). The teacher gets easily distracted by random topics.
Worst professor I've had so far. Not understanding at all, not helpful, rude to students, and the class was self taught. So not only was the class difficult, but she made it even worse. If you can't figure out the whole self-taught part, good luck. When I would ask for help, she wouldn't know the answers and I was always redirected to the TAs.
Course was disorganized.Lecture Video's are confusing and make us as students question if she knows what she is talking about, because there are many moments where she herself seems confused. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt; sweet person but, not a good teacher! Youtube basically taught me the material! SMFH!
The nicest professor I had this semester, but was not good at teaching the information. I got an A, barely, through the textbook and youtube videos. On her tests, each question is 7-8 points, so getting 2 wrong already gets you a B. Only take this class if you are good at teaching yourself.
She is a genuinely nice person and approachable, but her lectures are a bit disorganized, and she overcomplicates the material. She goes on tangents that make it hard to stay focused. I think she is a sweet person so it's hard to rate her so poorly, but I had to teach myself everything for her class. Definitely learn your TI-84 well for this class.
Richardson is a nice professor, but her lectures can be disorganized. The exams are challenging, so focus on the textbook and make use of resources like unstuckstudy ai along with YouTube to really grasp the material. Overall, a decent class if you're willing to put in the work.
i recommend taking this professor if you wanna hate life.i dont think ive seen a professor so disorganized and bad.i think if i got up and taught the class myself the class wouldnt be so confused.she takes like 3 weeks to grade, if u think u understand the material, no u dont. cant teach, bad averages, doesnt curve.impossible to score high on exam.
Although she is a nice teacher, she is terrible at explaining concepts. Her tests barely covered things covered in class and I only received good grades on reading the textbook and watching videos. She seems like she doesn't know what she's talking about when you ask questions. Don't take if you can.
She has such a talent of overcomplicating simple material, its actually impressive. She also wastes the entire class period going off topic and doing calcs by hand, and loves to go in depth on everything that wont be on exams. Get ready to teach yourself the entire course. The hw is tedious and useless as well. Use practice exams to study.
Daily distractions with side tangents about personal life. Has good intentions but comes off as very condescending when answering questions. Homework doesn't align with class and forces you to self-teach topics that she tells us to ignore and will not be tested on. Equation sheets for all exams and cheat sheets for 3rd exam and non-cumulative final
She has a big heart but is a horrible teacher. I used this class as a study hall. Watch the videos she has posted to prep for the exams and you will do fine. Have so much fun teaching yourself all of stats since she has monopolized the premed stats department.
She really is a nice person but I think her prime time of being a professor is coming to an end. Her lectures are really messy and I feel like I waste my time commuting to her class. Although attendance isn't mandatory she once gave us a pop quiz and gave people who missed it 0's. Exams are 60% of your final grade; fail one and say goodbye to an A.
She's a nice person but not a good professor. She'd make things more complicated than necessary when explaining and often included random personal anecdotes in the middle of lecture. I stopped going to class halfway through the semester because i found that the videos she posted in canvas were more helpful than the actual lectures. Avoid if you can
Pretty average professor. She's easily distracted and rambles about random things during lecture but overall she's not extremely terrible. There's 4 exams, bunch of homework, barely any extra credit. Exams are 15-20 questions so make sure you do her practice exams to prepare well. Most annoying part is she takes way too long to grade each test.
the material was hard enough and the prof just makes it harder. i would not take this class until there's another professor because you're gonna either 1. tank ur GPA or 2. develop depression. or both actually. lecture doesnt cover even 10% of the test material. "cheat sheet" (the problems on the exam are foreign to what youve been doing anyway)
She literally whispers her lectures and then is mad when nobody understands what shes teaching. Her tests are very difficult and graded very strictly. She is also not happy to help and is actually rude when students need help. She is evil do not take this class!
Take this at community college. Her lectures do not align with the Macmillan textbook, and it is difficult to tell which study material to use for exams. Her lectures oversimplify the content, usually 1-3 problems are done throughout the class which do not represent what you will be graded by. She's nice enough but it's unclear what the content is.
Terrible professor. Teaches by example and often does not cover enough material for you to do the homework. I often had to teach myself half of the material on each homework. Her exams are pretty difficult and she grades harshly. She also does not curve or drop any of the exams at all. She was often late to class and would blame "traffic". Avoid!!
She only goes through a few questions during lectures, and the few questions did not cover everything that would appear on the homework or exams. She was often late to class, and also graded exams harshly. Would not recommend or take a class with her again.
this professor is awful. she's a nice person but just so bad at teaching. she gets distracted during every lecture, will show up late, and takes 3+ weeks to grade exams. she is so vague when explaining concepts and her exams are nothing like the lectures. you basically have to teach yourself all of the material. avoid at all costs!!!
you look up for one second and shes already on another problem. in this class rn and it is the absolute worst. do not take this class. her online lectures seem to be more useful then attending the lecture irl. We're always lost... she doesn't make things make sense. she doesnt explain things. just avoid this class
Professor Richardson is a really nice professor. I take her MWF classes, and she explains the topics well. I got a 1 on AP Stats, but I'm currently at an A in her class, so that's how good I think she is. Attendance isn't really mandatory, but she occasionally does exit tickets, so just show up to class.
Although she's a lovely lady, this was awful & disorganized. She was bad at delivering the concepts. Tests are 20ish questions, she gets incredibly off-topic in lecture. I stopped listening, got a tutor, used the txtbk and HW, and did better. You will end up teaching yourself. Singling someone in lecture to ask if they need help is not my thing.
She's such a sweet lady, and she's so understanding about any troubles but she her lectures are pretty unorganized and hard to follow. she doesn't take attendance but some classes she'll have pop quizzes which will bring your grade down a lot if you miss. her exams are pretty easy but it takes like a month to grade them
Kind, does care about her students. Will extend assignments if she knows were behind, but that's about it. Missed class once, decided to start having pop quizzes without notice. Grade went from 95%-69%. Extremely off topic and will randomly start doing example problems with no organization. Barely knows what she's talking about most of the time.
I have been a straight A math student so I expected stats to be a breeze but this professor does not make it easy. Expect lectures to be very unorganized. She bounces around and does not teach a certain topic in order. Her canvas is also unorganized. She would open different links in her canvas throughout lecture which would mess me up.
She is a very nice lady, but aside from that, she is disorganized and a poor teacher. She is consistently late to class, frequently cancels office hours, and makes numerous mistakes. She also spends around three weeks a month grading exams. You've just got to teach yourself. Her canvas is a headache, with nothing in the right place.
She's a nice lady, if you show up to her office hours or ask for help after class, she will thoroughly explain the content for you. She gets sidetracked during lecture sometimes but usually finishes the content needed by end of class. Her online videos help a ton as well. Exams are hard but if you study, you'll be fine.
You will rarely understand what she says in class or know what to expect on exams. She goes off topic, explains topics poorly, and never makes clear what to study. Preparing for tests feels like guessing. Grading takes months, exams get harder if scores are high, and surprise pop quizzes can seriously hurt your grade. Do not take her.
