I took her online 102 and found it engaging. We had to write two 10+ page papers over the whole quarter and most of the discussion boards had to do with those papers. The only draw back she did not get on as often, so if there was a problem it was not addressed right away.
I took this class with her online and I loved it. The essay assignments were easy and fun, not to mention really helpful. I am going to try to get in her ENGL102 class next quarter
Essay assignments were about us making them more interesting. However, very strict grader. My paper was critiqued by a AP English teacher and Ripper gave me a C.
I took this class online. Diane is very organized and has all work for class availiable at the beginning of the quarter. The biggest thing are the two 10 page papers, which aren't too hard. There are little assignments every week, but they aren't hard. Lots of quizzes in the beginning though.
She is a good teacher with clear and concise directions. You will learn a great deal about writing, but she is a very hard grader; harder than all the other teachers in the department. No one gets an A in her class. (NO-ONE!!!) SO be prepared for a lot of hard work and disappointment.
She is a great teacher. Very helpful. Directions and expectations are clear. But she is not easy. No one gets an A in her class. (NO-ONE!!!)You will work for every stitch of your grade. Weekly mandatory assignments, and two/10 page papers in the OL class. Very hard grader. Be warned. she is harder at grading that the rest of the department.
I have had Diane for two classes; ENG 102 and ENG 111. She expects you to be able to write and if you can't puncuate expect to be graded accordingly. In my opinion she is one of the best teachers at EVCC and I learned a lot from her.
This class was very helpful and I learned a lot. But Diane is a hard grader. She is very tough on grammar but she is fair.
She is a hard grader. I took it for running start credit and was perviously a 3.97 student and her style ruined my GPA.
Her grading ruined my GPA and it was hard to keep up with all the work she piles on you.
Diane definitely makes you work for your grade. She is a tough grader on essays and doesn't offer help unless you specifically ask her for it. Your essay drafts are proofread by your classmates who may or may not know what they are talking about.
Limits your ideas by a list of banned topics she deems overdone which encompasses every topic you might be interested in. Cite, cite, cite. Even a personal narrative somehow requires citations in her book. Didn't know I was signing up for a class about citations that I learned about in 9th grade.
She has a strange personality. She takes the "No one gets an A" bit too far. She smiles a lot but it is a totally fake smile. I strongly disliked this instructor and class.
This class is about learning how to write papers and cite properly. So, if you write a paper with a bunch of spelling and grammar errors or fail to follow the guidelines for citations, you will not do well. She responded quickly to questions and offers a lot of resources to succeed in the class. You will have to work hard, but you will learn a lot.
Diane's great. She's very clear in her instructions and was always there to help me when I asked for it. I thought she was nice and the grading seemed fair for the concepts and work involved.
I liked the way she taught and was very helpful with feedback on assignments.
Diane assigns long papers, and she is a hard grader. She is always willing to help you with any questions you have about assignments. There are extra credit opportunities. Do not procrastinate on the assignments, and always make sure that you are not forgetting any assignments.
I enjoyed this class, and I did not find it especially difficult. She is tough on grammar, but this an English class. She offers many extra credit opportunities and is always willing to ask questions.
Diane is a very nice lady. When I first came into this class, I wasn't ready for the challenge that was to come. You have to write two ten page essays throughout the quarter and she grades very tough. If you don't want a challenging class, then I wouldn't recommend it to you. Although it was hard, I learned a lot and I found it enjoyable!
There were a few long papers, but you had plenty of time to compete them. She gave excellent advise shortly after a assignment was submitted.
The teacher is very helpful with everything in this class. She made this class fun.
I enjoyed this class despite the papers. It was informative and I could relate the work to my life today. I loved the class theme of "identity". Overall, great class!
Two long essays, and one book to read. You can get an A if you finish all the homework assignments and do excellent on the essays. You'll get help and answers to your question only if you ask!
I loved this class! I felt like I learned a lot. I wasn't excited to take this class at first but I really feel like I'm walking away from this class as a better writer. I would definitely take it again.
The assignments were all easy to do. The bigger papers were fun to write and I learned more and developed better skills for MLA and APA citiations and my overall writing skills.
This was a good online class! The biggest thing I feared was the two 10 page essays, but when we got to them, they weren't that bad. They go by pretty quick and I actually enjoyed writing about my topic. You get to choose something that's important to you. Make sure to read the assigned book and do the Aplia assignments. Do ALL of the extra credit!
I really enjoyed this class. I have never thought of myself as a good writer, but this class gave me more confidence. Diane was easy to get a hold of, and would always reply back promptly. She also graded assignments quickly. She gave a lot of opportunity for extra credit, and was clear with everything she needed/wanted for assignments and grading.
A great teacher that lets you be creative in your writing assignments instead of just assigning boring, meaningless subjects. She is very responsive to email and gives helpful detailed feedback continuously to guide you.
Diane was very clear on what she wants from us (papers+discussion board). If you have anything you don't understand, she will reply your email within a day, which is better than a lot of college prof. Tough grader, as everyone is saying, but if you tried ,you can get a good grade.
Diane gave feedback and grades quickly which was helpful in motivating me. She was clear about the expectations, often repeating instructions on many pages of the modules. Not to were it got annoying, just helpful. Even with an online class, I felt she genuinely cared about me as a person and not just another post on a discussion board.
You will pass the class if you complete all the assignments that she gives you.
If you love to read and write, this course is definitely for you.
She's a great teacher for English 102. She will be always there to help you.
Fair amout of work. Has clear instructions and answered any questions I needed answered.
Diane is a very good instructor and she put effort in students success.
Course outline is very clear from the beginning and easy to follow if you keep up with it.
Helpful and gives great feadback can be a tough course.
She was an amazing teacher. She required a lot of participation and 100% effort through out the whole course. She was always there when you need help to clarify something. I definitely want to take class with her again next time i needed.
Very tough grader and has many work to do to keep you busy. It is hard to manage with multiple classes.
There are long papers, but the reading material is wonderful and I didn't find the class to be hard. It just requires some time.
The only thing about the class that I didn't like was that the papers assigned were really long. Other than that, it was a good class.
Great!
Great class! I think Identity was a strong theme for the upcoming generation and for the young adults who are already feeling the struggle. I hope this continues to be a theme for classes to come!
Diane was a great teacher and any student would be lucky to have her for a teacher!
I took Diane's online class, and as long as you participate in discussions, you'll be fine. English 102 online had 2 ten page essays which were a little tough, but as long as you follow the guidelines and do the other assignments, they won't ruin your grade. No textbook was used, only a novel that we had to summarize each chapter of.
Be efficient and manage your time wisely.
This is a great professor because she's easy to contact, and her grading is very direct so that if you do everything and do your best, you should get a good grade. I'd recommend this teacher to anyone any time.
Very unclear grading criteria with lots of ten plus pages, very little feedback.
Ripper, although a tough grader, is very clear on what she wants from you. Nothing will be a surprise and she offers a nice extra credit option at the end of the class.
The online class was set up great and was easy to ask her questions but to receive a good grade in that class you really have to put in a lot of work because there will be multiple assignments going on at one time.
This was my first time taking an online course. I'm glad it was this class. The class is basic as long as you stay on top of your assignments there is no reason why you shouldn't pass.
Great online English class! There are only two big papers, no tests; homework consists of online assignments and plenty of discussions. If you need this class, it'll be pretty easy to juggle with a working schedule/over the summer.
This class has good subject matter and requires you to be present online. I think she gives fair and helpful feedback throughout the class. The main class consisted of two research papers, online workshops, peer reviews, and reading/reviewing a book of personal narrative writing. It kept me busy over the summer, but never felt overwhelming.
Diane is an excellent professor that always gives feedback and responds promptly to student inquiries and problems. Even when her feedback about an assignment was negative, it wasn't negative enough to discourage harder work and didn't leave me feeling like it was a personal issue She was very clear from the beginning and stuck with the syllabus.
The instructions of professor are clear and easy to follow. Also, the workloads are not too heavy and they are useful in this class.
Great class. Tough grader, but in the best way. She is so helpful and gives specific examples of things to improve on. I really liked this class. Way better than English 101
Great class! I learned a lot! But warning: she's a really tough grader! I've always been an A-student, and I was afraid of not getting an A for the first time in her class! :O
I really enjoyed taking your course, although challenging , it was rather rewarding because I actually had to work for the grade I received.
I really enjoyed this class you read a 250 page book and write a review along with two other essays in the whole quarter. There's online discussions and they are very easy if you pay attention to aplia.
I loved this class! I was nervous taking English online but this professor made things so easy for me and I was able to email her with literally any questions I might have. Just make sure you put a lot of effort into the two papers you have to write and be sure to manage your time well. Not really any homework besides a few assignments a week.
Diane was great. I loved the class.
I chose this class because everyone said she was a tough grader, and she is, but not without telling you what she's expecting and wants. If you get a good grade then you know you deserved it. Do the work, follow the rules and you can get a good grade. The material/book pushed you to think beyond your world/self, which I found inspiring. Overall A+!
This was a nice challenging class where you will learn a lot. Logging in everyday really helps! Completing every assignment is crucial.
She had very clear instructions, was very organized, and gave very good feed back on essays.
You have to do the work and read the material, but if you do you'll pass. Follow the instructions for the research papers and you'll do well. No textbook is required which is nice, just an online assignment course. She's empathetic and understanding, and overall a good person and a great instructor. I learned a lot!
Hard class.
She is a tough grader but allows lots of extra credit opportunities; it would be nice if she would consider redoes if some does understand an assignment completely and messes it up.
This course has been one of the best English classes I have taken.
Very well organized instructor. I learned a lot from her class.
Overall a great professor, I really enjoyed how through all directions were.
Variety of assignments (never bored), fun and simple online class.
This professor really helped me with strengthening my writing/ research skills and I would definitely recommend this course to others.
Lots of assignments due all in one day, which was stressful when you work full time. Good teacher though.
I would take any class with her. She is clear and specific on what she wants, when shes not she works with everyone. She gives you plenty of time to do your work. I Took an online class, needed to log in everyday/ every other day. If your not good with papers its ok, you can get enough points in the other categories to keep a B.
2 required papers--and shes a tougher grader than most but not unreasonable. But there are lots of other assignments that are easy points that add up. Just do your work and you'll be fine. She gives good feedback and is helpful if you need it.
I thought Diane was a great professor for this online class. She was great at communicating and returned emails within a timely manner. She seems to like her job and students. The class work is reasonable and you can work ahead.
Diane is a great teacher, as long as you stay on top of your work and allow yourself to write about personal experiences. She was very helpful and always there when you needed clarification on an assignment or anything like that. It was also nice that she substituted the textbook for online tutorials and such. Overall, this is a great class!
I really enjoyed this class and would recommend it to others. There wasn't a ridiculous amount of homework and she seemed really nice and helpful. She gets back to you with feedback and answers to questions in a timely manner, and seems like a fairly reasonable grader. The final paper is a tough one, though, so I recommend starting it right away!
I love Ms. Diane for her passion to me. She was always there to help me whenever I needed. She understood for my writing skill problem and fix it for me. She also gave me good advises for my research papers. I love the way she organized the course so much. It is very easy to understand everything and convenience without using any textbook.
Professor Ripper has been incredibly helpful in this course and in general. I have had a great time learning in this course and thought it has been challenging, the work has been fun and enriching. I will be taking lessons from this course into success in my future academic career as well as personal life.
I liked the course and the instructor very much. I found her very helpful and easy to communicate with.
Diane was a cool teacher. She is serious about writing and doesn't expect less from her students. She makes you think, question, and explore topics that are close to you. By doing that, we also get to learn what is important to others. She seems to care deeply about people and their well being.
I really enjoyed Diane's on-line class. Everything was clear cut and laid out for you in advance. I never had trouble getting a response from her. She might be known to be a tough grader, but those are often the better teachers. I found her to be relatable.
Questia assignments are awful and really time-consuming, other than that it is a decent class with a slightly heavier-than-average workload, but most of the work assigned is more time-consuming than difficult.
Really enjoyed this class! Very straightforward.
I really enjoyed taking this course. I felt I got a lot out of it and was challenged to improve. She gave feedback on all of the assignments which I really appreciated. It's good to know exactly where you could do better.
Long papers. Know how to cite. Know how to find reliable sources.
Very strait forward class. If you can sit down and the work, you will not struggle
You could tell the teacher really wanted us to succeed and gave us all the resources we needed to be successful. I really enjoyed the class and learned tons!
If your looking to take an online class, this is a good one. But if you aren't self motivated, stick to a classroom setting.
Really great teacher, you must be motivated to do well in this class. Lots of assignments, but you will learn a lot throughout the course.
Enjoyed this teacher and class. Prides herself on being a tough grader, but I honestly found her kind of an easy grader. As long as you do well on the essays, a lot of the smaller assignments don't matter too much, especially the ones that aren't graded. Just be sure you cite your sources correctly!
LOTS of busy work and hardly anything that relates to English. We don't learn grammar from her she just gives us an online program to use. Had more work in this one class than two of my other classes combined and may I add that I learned more.
It's a tough course so you need to stay on top of the work on your won time! She does a great job giving you steps to help you get the final product in the end, but it's not worth points so the only incentive is your own grade in the end. She takes very seriously the grade you tell her when she asks what you think you deserve. Great online class.
English 102 online was a class with a lot of moving parts but it was a great experience. If you keep on top of everything and put effort into everything you do you'll do fine.
Was, an amazing class did 2 separate 10 page essays. I got graded harshly on my grammar and punctuation. It made my grade drop quite a bit I learned the hard way I do still feel she graded me fairly
Mrs. Ripper has a good outline for the course and provides the ability to write papers of personal interest. Overall great teacher and class.
I found that the class was helpful, but she was not. I asked for help and she wouldn't give it because apparently she would be "doing the work for me." and her grading criteria is not introduced, most professors tell you to respond to 2 other people and mean it to get full credit; Diane on the other hand will give you a C for not doing more.
2 major essays worth most of your grade, other than that just keep up with route assignments and you're golden.
I took Dianes class online and she was so amazing. There were 2 big essays which were hard and there was a good amount of homework ( You have to work 4 the grade you want). However, Diane was the sweetest professor and would re-open assignments for me if I missed things or gave me an extension if needed. I recommend taking her class for English 102
Diane was great. Choose her for E102. Her focus is very unique. The work is different, and a bit hard... But she's worth it! Very kind and caring, only two big papers, a typical online workload... I don't know! Take her class!
I really appreciated that Diane graded tough, but fairly. The workload is slightly above average, but not unreasonable and if you let her know that you won't be able to finish something (ahead of time!), she is very understanding and helpful. The work was enjoyable and didn't feel pointless, you can really get a lot out of this class!
There was a lot of busy work in this class, some of it helpful and some of it not so much. Shes a very tough grader on essays, but overall the homework was easy. I enjoyed the class and would take it again
Diane Ripper is an absolute gem! There should be more teachers like her!
Class had a lot of work. 2 big essays and many weekly assignments. Besides that it was a fun class and the teacher is so caring and nice. I had a bad week and she have me an extension on my assigments. I would reccomend her Class.
The class itself felt like a bunch of busy work accompanied by two huge essays. The topics for the essays are not picked for you, but she is extremely picky about the topics she will or won't approve. Also, she is terrible at communicating via email, and then told us students that she "doesn't have office hours." Overall, not a good class.
What I expected
Good class, overall.
Great choice for a teacher, but she grades pretty tough.
very good teacher but she grades very tough
it was an online class, so there were no class times or traditional homework, but it was a lot of work. There were 5-7 assignments each week with required comments on classmates' assignments as well to receive full credit. Most of them just required two comments, but a few required 5. No real lectures, just modules you can look through.
I have taken a few English classes and this one by far exceeded my expectations! Diane was helpful, didn't overwhelm us and was always willing to give feedback. She also had a weekly kindness assignment that was amazing! LOVE LOVE LOVE this prof!
I really enjoyed her as a professor. She gives great feedback to your writing and is available if you have any questions.
It's very important to be observant in this class! As long as you write down all your due dates and get work done on time according to the rubric you should pass. The papers are graded very meticulously so be sure to focus on making them error free-the grammar errors are judged according to your ability and what you've learned.
She seemed very nice and caring, she was a tough grader but that shows she cares!
LOVED this is class and the professor, she's a tough grader only because she wants you to succeed. Really picky about due dates, so I would highly recommend putting all the due dates in your laptop calendar. Don't wait till the last minute, 2 big lengthy research papers, she can tell in your writing. The Aplia assignments are VERY helpful.
She really seemed like she cared about you doing well in the class.
She isn't the best, but also not the worst.
This is the most poorly optimized online class I have ever taken. Most of your grade comes from 2 papers, the rest is just busy work.
Professor Ripper's feedback is specific and helps a whole lot. She is also very respectful and kind when it comes to feedback, which I LOVE! Participation is a large factor in this course, but it's easy to do; everyone is very kind and there are topics that are easy to talk and converse about.
The only issue I found with this class is that its online, not the professors fault! I wouldnt recommend this class if you are not well organized and/or poor time mangement skills. If you do have these skills then I would recommend this class! She gives you thourough feedback and emails back to questions pretty quickly!
I really enjoyed this instructor, she was honest and there to help you succeed. While this was an English course about research papers, naturally, it was heavy on large research papers and smaller research papers in between. It was important to write well in the class and follow the instructions she provides.
Dianes online course was amazing this quarter. She gives great feedback, is easy to reach (and replies), is kind and helpful, and assigns really great work. You get to choose what book you want to read between two books and the one I read was life-changing. If you get the opportunity to take this class, do it.
Two 10 page essays. Grades assignments quickly. Need to participate in class discussions. Some feedback was not healpful. Gives the choice between two class books, which was nice. High, but reasonable expectations.
Class was awful right off the bat. Looking ahead, I could see that we need to write about ourselves a lot. Some of the topics are very personal and I did not feel comfortable about them. Her solution was literally "Drop the class." Maybe I would have if the canvas was open before the first day of class. Aplia is also very poorly designed.
Grading is a bit tough but is very understanding.
I was very stressed and overwhelmed from all of the assignments. There is a difference between being strict with grading and the amount of assignments given. I have other classes that I have to pass but I felt like I always had something to do for this class so it was hard to focus on my others.
There was one book to read, 2 long 10+ page papers to write. It was difficult to get an A, but as long as you did the work and the extra credit opportunities, you should be good if you want to keep a 4.0.
Found that this class was very difficult when I was not able to focus 2-3 hours daily on just this class. I work full time and am a single mom so this course was challenging. She is fair just be ready to spend 80% of your available time on just this 1 class.
She is challenging and does grade pretty tough, however, it is well worth it. I got good feedback and you have plenty of assignments to do to help bring up a bad grade on another. I am not a very good writer and have never been good in the english section, however, I did well in this class because of the teacher.
She will grade you strictly on the grading criteria which is good. She always gives good feedback on your big papers. Lets you be yourself in your writing and the essays are for of an informal, creative and comfortable way of writing. You have to work hard to get the grade that you want. But none of it is over the top difficult. She is a great prof
You have to write a lot about your personal experiences in this class. As someone with a very boring life who stays indoors all day and takes entirely online classes, I had trouble coming up with topics. I'm also not even a legal adult, so that wasn't helping. It'd be nice if I didn't HAVE to write about just me.
As long as you do the work and take time to do your work you will pass.
Diane is an interesting teacher, to put it one way. If you're looking for an English 102 class to refine your writing skills from English 101, this is one to avoid. What she's looking to grade you on here is how much you expose of your poor, tortured soul in your writing. This is a class to learn how to write more emotionally, not professionally.
Gives good feedback but is a very tough grader. Get ready to write...a lot because that is all you are doing, every week. One practice essay and then the real one. Make sure to carefully critique your work if you want a good grade!
Professor easily reached through email and answers all questions. Tough on grading and little learning of errors or how to write better. A lot of personal experience needed to be shared to have a stronger piece of work.
I enjoyed taking this class. It was my first ever online class and was not as difficult as I thought. Sure, there's a lot of homework but if you are organized and on top of it then you will pass. The articles were interesting and I like how she threw in a couple of documentaries as well. Even through online I can tell she is a really nice person.
This class has to be the worst class I've ever taken. The teacher gives NO feedback to students and the class is set up to make students fail. Overall would not recommend this class to anyone.
I strengthened my paraphrasing skills, but my critical thinking did not improve. I learned to focus on the main points in my reading and writing. There aren't many assignments to help vocabulary and sentence structure. I enjoyed reading about modern issues, and the feedback was extremely helpful.
Diane is great. She grades pretty easy for a college English professor in my opinion, but that isn't necessarily something to complain about. If you complete everything the rubric says you will get a 100% on the assignment.
The reading we had to do for this class was very difficult, most of it was hard to understand. I would recommend this class if you are good at being able to read in between the lines to understand the main points. Some of the readings are very interesting but really hard to understand or read.
Many of the stories we had to ready were very difficult to understand.
This class really isn't hard. The readings focused on pretty complex topics, but as long as you follow the criteria for the essays you will get an A on them. You have practice essays with peer review, and then she gives pretty good feedback on the real essays. I think she is a fair grader and I found the course relatively enjoyable.
This class was fairly easy for a research paper course. She is a stickler for the rubric but as long as you follow the instructions you'll do fine. She provides sample essays so you can see how she wants the papers formatted. Two large papers to do during the quarter and they have to be on topics that you have personal experience with. Fast grader.
the amount of work you give and time you put into it will come out as a grade you have earned, and are able to build from that point.
The essays that we had to do for this class were difficult. On some of them you need to spent a lot of time to understand what the main points are. It was hard, but it was interesting as well. She gives good feedbacks that help you understand why you got this or that grade. I believe she is a fair grader.
She does not assign many assignments, gives good examples and will give feedback on essays.
Gives just enough work that you are able to be reflective on the assignments and do a good job on the assignments.
Diane Ripper is a very kind professor. I'm a running start student who took her for ENG102 online. Our two big project were two research papers 8-10 pages long. Yes, there is a lot of work you have to put into this class to get a good grade, but she is very helpful and provides plenty of material to help you.
I loved this class! There were a lot of assignments given weekly, but they're all manageable if you do one a day. She goes in-detail on how to write an MLA and APA formatted paper which you'll need through-out your college career.
My professor has been a huge help to me this quarter, she has given me amazing feedback on all my assignments to help me improve as a reader and writer. Would recommend this class and professor to anyone!
Ripper is a good teacher, do your work you'll pass. Shes kinda a tough grader tho.
I enjoyed the class and the book assigned quite a bit. The class is challenging in a good way that I did not personally find overwhelming.
I loved this class. Diane offers a few options for extra credit but you shouldn't need them. The books required cost very little, and I thoroughly enjoyed them. There were two assigned papers, but workshops offered a chance to get help from others. The weekly unexpected acts of kindness discussions were also really fun!
Since it was an online class there has to be participation, but that's just since you don't meet in person. The professor helps you learn a lot and gives good feedback!
Really don't like her. Not cooperative and threatened to give me an F for a sentence I didn't put in quotes. And I am a 4.0 student if that says anything. Also, this was when I am a running start student, so very new to college.
Diane is awesome. She is very clear about how she wants assignments and essays done, but gives plenty of resources and lectures to help you out. She grades tough, but this helps you become and a better writer. She also seems to really care and want you to succeed in her class.
Definitely a harder class than English 101 it was a pretty good class though and I would recommend it.
Responds to emails right away and communicates with online students very well. Also gives good feedback. Long essays, but you can choose your own topics. Organized, but a tough grader.
Professor Ripper makes you work for your grade, but not in an unrealistic way. It's the kind of work that at the end of an assignment, and at the end of the class, you feel accomplished. You also feel like you have learned a few very valuable skills, I feel that my world is bigger and my education is better for this class. organized, good material
This was a very challenging class. With that said, I feel like I have grown a lot in my writing skills over the course of this class. Professor is a tough grader, but if you follow all of the instructions, then you will be fine. There are two big papers for this class.
I thought she did a great job with helping me out throughout the quarter. She was responsive when I asked for help and gave strong advice.
Worse topics ever. If you have a chance to chose professor for Eng 101, do not chose her!
There is a lot of freedom in her class. This makes the class interesting and interactive. One thing you should know, you need to put a lot of effort to get a high grade in this course.
Some of the assignments she gives you are a bit hard, but once you get with the flow of things it gets way easier. She is a really good instructor, especially if you're in running start like I was. You can also email her for clarifications and other stuff. It's not a hard class, but it's not easy either, so prepare to work for your grade!
Be prepared for weekly "essays" that are on contrivers topics. Great class you really learn how to write better and be a critical thinker and get good feedback from your classmates.
She grades tough
It may be just because I come from High School, but I don't think I've written the amount of essays we wrote in a quarter at college as we did in High School.
Tough grader as far as punctuation, but gives a lot of feedback for improvement. Provides extra credit opportunities in workshops and is clear about what she's looking for in each assignment. Easy to get in touch with and very responsive. All course materials are provided at the start of term.
Diane offers clear comments on all assignments, and is incredibly encouraging. Our essays covered a variety of topics, which kept me interested while writing.
Very tough grader.
She gave very good feedback on the writing assignments and was very mindful of second chances. She does grade tough but it is only to critique what was missed. The was an average workload of at most 8 hours a week.
Struggled a bit at the beginning of the class but got the hang of her grading and did well the rest of the course. Easy to communicate with and gives feedback on almost all assignments. There was plenty of time given when it came to essays and due dates.
Diane was a great teacher! She was very responsive to emails and gave great feedback. I learned a lot throughout the course of her class.
This class wasn't easy, expect to put in the work to get a good grade. You write a paper a week in summer classes. She gives good feedback that guides you on what she expects and wants in your papers. I used the online tutoring center for help. I learned a lot from this class and I enjoyed the topics we wrote about.
Diane Ripper is a tough teacher and English 102 was a really hard class. I was frustrated at times but she always gave good feedback and once I understood what she was looking for, I did really well. I probably was both the most frustrated and yet learned the most in this class. You will learn how to ANALYZE!
It's hard for me to give detailed adjectives seeing as though I had her for online classes so I never got to really know her. Through online, however, she seemed nice and didn't give out insane amounts of homework nor were there any surprises I had to look out for.
Diane was a very caring teacher and gave quick and helpful feedback. She is specific about what she expects and gives you plenty of time to do it. I enjoyed this class very much.
Lots of Extra Credit opportunities! No textbook but there are some documentaries and podcasts+movies you have to watch and pay for. Just do the extra credit, its easy and only takes a second to review an extra person's paper on a discussion post. This class could be slightly uncomfortable for a man (ENGL102), with lots of women-heavy topics.
I enjoyed taking this class. You will have two big research papers, where you are allowed to pick any topic. You can get extra credit in the class through workshops. The professor was kind and would give feedback on my assignments. I was also able to email her and ask for feedback on my research papers, which helped me improve my essays.
