She is really goofy and cares a lot about her students
keep up with the class, study for quizes, HARD tests
great person, cares about her students, funny, smart, need to study hard
Great prof, go to ALL lectures, best way to study is do hw, hard tests
No Comments
Good teacher, but exams are multiple choice, there's no partial credit points!
Good prof, need to do hw and study hard.
She is great study old exams and quizzes and u will do just fine
changed curve at the last minute dropping grades, good teachers don't do this
this is the hottest teacher. I wish I had her every semester. Thank you for a great semester Dr. Smith.
the best teacher I have ever had

Her lectures are very helpful. Tests are easy but tricky.
She's a great chem teacher. She really explains things well. Study off the old exams, she uses practically the same questions.
Good teacher.. take her
Smith was okay. Pay attention at the beginning of the lecture, or you'll get lost. Study old tests and quizzes and you'll do fine.
Dr. Smith is awesome, very informative and material is clear. She curves, test are absolutely reasonable. Her lectures give you what will be on the test. Always ready to help you.
so what if she curves at the last minute..it only helps you. Easy teacher, just study the practice tests. As long as you know what type of problem it is, she makes it real easy.Always willing to help you during office hours.
Dr. Smith is a fantastic professor. If you pay attention, do the homework, and study the practice tests you can get an A. If you have questions she is very willing to help outside of class.

quizes and exams are exactly like the practice ones, the only hard thing is the time constraint.
If you can't ace this course, then you must be an idiot...smith teaches chemistry in a way that you can't help but understand it. She is totally approachable and willing to help...enroll in her class...Awesome teacher.

Great teacher! willing to help in office hours. Study for quizzes with the old quizzes from last semesters. Just make sure you dont miss lecture in order to be on top of things.
Smith is a great teacher. Easy to understand. Exams and quizzes are exactly like previous years.
decent course, guess you have to take her for this class, shes the only professor for it. good luck
she's nice but her exams are HARD. She tries to trick you to see if you really know your stuff. if your a genius you'll get an A. This course made me change my major. She expects a lot form you but at least she tries to make hard course interesting.
Second semester chem is easier than the first, just go to lecture and ask for help when you don't get it. She is very helpful, probably the best science prof. at SDSU.
I don't know how... but I think this class is easier than Chem 200. Dr. Smith is a great teacher. Do the homework and extra study questions for the tests cause it helps a lot! Nice teacher.
Very nice teacher who genuinely tries to help students. Class isn't that hard, but you do need to study if you want an A. Oh yeah, don't talk in class, HUGE pet peeve, but fun to watch her reaction :)
nICE TEACHER AND CAN TEACH
Class is not that easy however Smith is a good teacher. Gives good examples in class and willing to help anyone. Study old quizzes/exams and go to class and you will be fine.
Good professor. Funny and lovely. Eager to teach.
smart lady, good voice. didn't really go to class or take notes... 2nd & 3rd exams were hard. final is only questions from the exams. get a good grade in lab! i ended up with an A-.. study hard.
good teacher, she's a nut though, kinda manly for a woman, her TA, this one old guy is an jerk, he cusses in labs and pretends he's the shieet
BATTERIES
This class was so much easier than Chem 200. I never studied or did any of the homework. All you have to do is study the old quizzes and exams, read if you don't understand something, and you'll get an A like me. NOT HARD AT ALL! But lectures suck.
Dr smith is a weird person. She is very socially akward and probably has some very deep set personal problems. She also looks like a boy and goes cross-eyed periodically while she is talking to you. Not a bad teacher though, overall.
class is structured ok. lots of study material however exam time is short. only 55mins to do questions? oh come on. take a hint when half of the class is still working on the exam. lab report is useless. half of the info in the report is already done int he notebook. waste of time and paper. C+
lots of study material. study guide is one of those that tells u to study everythng. big help. practce exams are easy but do not help u with big questions on the actual test. extra study material do not have worked out solutions so they don't help unless you already know how to do it. CLASS IS OK
i liked her lectures.she makes chemistry seems so easy.the way she teaches make the subject easy to understand and he gives clear examples.just go to her lectures and make sure you study for the quizzes and exams.her review sessions are somhow helpful for her hard exams.
You definately word for your grade in her class...but she's one of the best lecturers I've ever had.
Easier than chem 200, but lectures were a bore! Lab was easy. Do good on first exam because 2nd and 3rd get progressively harder. I think she felt sorry for half the class getting D's going into the final and gave an easy final..anyway study old quizes and exams and you will get at least a C.
She does offer a lot of study material and her lectures are somewhat clear. Chem lab is bearable. But the unknown lab needs work. Please make the directions clearer. My biggest complaint is her Exams. There is not enough time to do it even though she thinks so. Click on "respond to this rating" on the left for more of a detailed reponse

she gives u everything u need to study to get an A. she's a GREAT teacher who knows how to teach. provides all the past exam and quizzes on blackboard, which is exactly what will be on the test and quizzes. only down fall is u get 50 minutes to do the test! yikes!
she gives you alot of material that is very helpful. You can pass the quizes by just going over the material on her website. Her tests are kind of hard, she makes them so that you have to use all the time that is given to you. Her lectures are boring but going is a good idea, every once in awhile she will give out extra credit points.
Just study all the old quizzes and tests and you'll do well!
I enjoy going to her class. She lectures well, and gives random extra credit problems. Study all the old exams/quizes/extra problems, and you'll be fine.
If you study the old quizzes, you're guaranteed an A on ALL the quizzes. She gives study guides and plenty of materials to help understand and ACE the Exams. Her lectures are also very clear and she's very helpful and passionate about the subject so it makes you actually want to learn Chemistry. Go To Her Office Hours. She's Cool!
This class is killer. Lecuture isn't too bad, kinda boring as can be expected. Her tests are really super hard, but she is overall a nice teacher and its easy to laugh at her.
This class is all about your TA. Get a cool TA so you get all your homework, lab, and quiz points. I recommend Costantinos, he's the best. Class is out of 1000 points. For the quizzes and exams just study the old quizzes and exams that she has online.
she is weird and boring. just study the old quizzes and tests posted online. the test are really hard though. the labs are simple, but a waste of time. you dont need to go to lecture, just study the past exams and quizzes online.
Go to lecture and you'll never have to open the book. The practices exams and quizzes are exactly like the tests too. The class is still hard, but she's one of the better lecture teachers.
She's so nice and you can tell she really loves chemistry (a bit too much). DON'T MISS LECTURE, and do the assigned homework (it helps for the tests). This class is really really hard, but if you try hard, you should pass. Labs are boring. I only used my book to do the homework.
Dr. Smith is really nice. She's an awesome teach. Go to lecture and studying the previous exams and quizes and you'll do fine. She's helpfull and sometimes funnie, loves chemistery and help her student pass. Exams are ok just study! She great, take her! GO TO LECTURE!
Boring lecture, though not terrible. Will spend five years on a simple problem (okay, maybe that's a slight exaggeration). Subject is a lot more mathematical than in 200 and less interesting. Past quizzes and exams online...study them. If you actually put some effort into it, this isn't that bad of a class. Labs harder, but much more fun.
she is very spastic and hard to learn from
I worked my ass off in this class and got a C. She's crazy and it's almost impossible to do well. Near the end of the year make sure you go to lecture because she gives out extra credit randomly then, and you'll need it. You never need to once open the book because her tests are based on her lectures and past exams.
Good lecturer, entertaining. Study notes and prev. exams for tests. 3 exams get progressively harder, but final isnt so bad (comprehensive, but not many -A- questions). Extra credit quizzes to students who stay for whole lecture. Unknown report (and its experiments) in lab are a major fun killer. Pick a good TA (I do not recommend Campbell).
Dr. Smith is a great professor and excellent lecture. Attend lecture and keep up with material throughout entire semester because the concepts build on one another. Take advantage of the previous semester quizzes and exams posted on web site.
She has a way of mkaing lectures really boring and hse spends a lot of time on simlpe problems. Overall she's alright, but if your have a bit of chemistry in your past like the lectures kinda drag.
Easy class, I didn't even buy or open any book and am getting an A. Just study the past exams and quizzes that she posts online before the exams, and you'll do well since they cover the same concepts. She does give extra credit quizzed too, on days when she expects little bit of people (before spring/thanksgiving break, etc.)
She is a great teacher. If you go to lecture and take notes, it is basically what you need to know for the quizes. Her notes for the first 3/4 of the semester are very helpful, but towards the end of the semester get kind of confusing. This class is much more easier than Chem 200 because she's organized.
Professor Smith was a good lecturer. Her exams were pretty difficult because of her "A" questions and the problems are more significant than they were in chem 200. If you study the past exams and quizzes you will do fine
She was more organized than Wang on Chem 200.She gave out straight what was going to be in the test in lecture. So basically do take all the notes, try not missing the class although is not mandatory to go.Get a good friend to get the notes from. Test were hard,Extra credit quizzes a day or two before special dates like thanks giving. Take it why not
Smith is a quirky lady who enjoys teaching Chemistry. Go to lecture to find out what is on the weekly quizzes and for the extra credit, which you will need. She gave EC the day before Thanksgiving break and the last week of the semester if that helps. Study past quizzes, exams, and the book and you will find that it is easier than Chem 200.
Easy Teacher, she is extremely unorganized in lecture, fumbling through paper work. The notes are written on the overhead (NO POWERPOINT). Much less material than 200, you spend like a month on each topic, I thought it was a waste of time. Didn't even need the book. Easy A, just show up to lecture.
EASY A!! Dr. Smith was a nice lady who would answer your question in a clear way. She has her own way of teaching chemistry that let's student understand the material quicker and easier. TAKE HER!! Quizzes and exams are easy and straightforward that it's hard not to get an A. It's more advanced than chem 200 but her teaching style makes it so clear
Great chem teacher! Way better than the chem 200 teachers.. she actually explains concepts her own way which is very easy to understand. Go to class and take notes and pay attention and you'll be fine. Rarely used the textbook it just confused me more. Tests can be tricky but do all the practice problems.. they are exactly the same as the tests
Hot Body!!!
This class is a lot of work, but is much better taken with her. She explains things very clearly and does her best to help everyone to understand the topics.
Going from Chem 200 to 201 was such a wonderful transition. Smith definitely knows her stuff and is good at what she does. I got a B+ in that class and although it is easy in the beginning of the semester it does get much harder so be sure to stay on top of things and ask questions. Chemistry isn't exactly a lot of people's favorite subject but try
Shes a fantastic lecturer. Very clear and outlines concepts well. Friendly, and very bright. Ihighly reccomend her for this course!
Loved her class. If you attend the lectures and pay attention you should have no problem. She explains things very clearly and has an easy going personality. Tests are just like practice tests and she always tells you what will be on the quizzes so you know what to study. Can't get much easier than that.
Brilliant. Ive never had such a crystal clear chemistry teacher. Very nice and very funny. Use practice exams to study. Attend her lectures, as her examples are often on exams. She gives extra credit for those who attend lectures as well. Loved her overall.
We couldnt understand her lectures. It could just be her VERBAL DYSLEXIA...She mixes things up. She mumbles a lot. Can't read her handwriting. She only does examples rather than really TEACH the concepts. Use practice test to study and maybe you'll survive.
If chemistry isn't your favorite subject, she won't make you like it any more. I got a C+ in chem 201, and I feel like I'm not going to pass this class AT ALL. Her examples aren't clear to me, and I even feel like Beauvais was a bette lecturer than she is because at least I can take some notes about the topics.
I LOVE Dr. Smith!! Her lectures could not be more clear or concise in relation to her exams. Weekly quizzes that are easy A's if you study the old quizzes from previous semesters, labs aren't terrible if you take your time on experiments and write-ups, and the tests are EXTREMELY similar to previous semesters. She sets you up to succeed with many study materials and fabulous lectures. Take her if you have the choice. She's a riot in class!
Good rofessor her lectures are clear and if you do all the practice exams and quizzes youll do good in the class
Very clear lectures with detailed notes! A great prof, but my complaint is that tests are multiple choice w/no partial credit, and she does surprise you with tough problems on tests. If you study a little every day and keep your quiz/lab grades up, you should do well! Don't rely just on practice exams...do the book problems for homework too!
Smith is the best chemistry teacher I have ever had at state! She is helpful during office hours. Be sure to dedicate the time to this class, old quizzes and tests helped me the most to get an A. If you have questions, then be sure to ask, and I also attended the workshop which is helpful.
Dr. Smith is great. Definitely a great change after Chem 200. She actually teaches you what you need to know in lecture. I never once opened my book. She provides practice tests and other study materials for all quizzes and exams. Study your lecture notes and do the practice material, you'll do fine.
Smith is the best Chem lecturer I have ever had at state. She gives you everything you need to know for the course online, ALONG with study quizes, tests, etc. The weekly quizes aren't hard, but the tests are somewhat labor intensive (as to be expected). We call her Joan of Arc as she leads us to victory in the war on Chemistry.
Get a good lab TA
Dr. Smith is an awesome professor. One of the very few who know how to teach Chemistry. You should make every effort to attend class. The quizzes are very easy, study past quizzes and you should ace them. Study old exams! Your enemy for exams 1-3 is time. Study the worked out exams 1-3 and you will do well on the final. Also get a good lab TA!!
Her writing can be a tad messy at times but I really liked her as a teacher. Instead of having her notes on a power point, she wrote them out with you and was able to explain them clearly. As long as you pay attention in lecture and do the non-mandatory practice assignments, this class isn't too bad.
If you understand the labs and examples presented in class, you will pass. However, the tests are a lot of work in a short amount of time. If I had more time on tests, I could have got an A. Doesn't like it when people leave her lecture early. She is very helpful in office hours. The class takes a lot of time for labs and studying
Decent class. A tad harder than Chem 200. All lectures are spent doing practice problems, not much notes. Gives a lot of helpful review material prior to test. Study for quizzes because they help your grade. Practice tests are helpful but make sure you thoroughly understand the material instead of memorizing the practice problems. Tests challenging
Dr. Smith's class is tough. But this is how college classes should be. Nothing is given to you. There are 8 quizzes, 3 midterms, 7 lab reports, and a cumulative final. Put in the work and don't be afraid to ask for help. There is extra credit during random points in the semester (she gives it out 3 different times)
To put it in simple words she's the best chem professor at sdsu. She's super clear and teaches , not just show you powerpoints. The only hard part of this class are the labs which can be confusing . But overall if you show up and try , you will pass the class.
She was there to help, tests are just like the practice exams but they're still tough. Go to class and you'll do better than just fine.
no HW, don't skip quizzes and do well on the labs bc at the end those points can makebreak ur grade. tests are not easy because of the time limit (20 multiple choice 50 min.) great teacher, offers 3 extra credit opportunities and if u pass the first ion test u get 5 extra credit points too. tests are like the practice tests, study them
Don't get the book, attendance to lecture and recitation sessions is absolutely necessary. You can't miss a single one or you won't be able to study effectively for tests.
Best Chemistry teacher in the department hands down. The only teacher at sdsu who actually knows how to teach chemistry. All information is given to you on her website about upcoming quizzes and exams. Study past exams over and over again and you"ll do just fine.
If you want a conceptual understanding of chemistry then this is THE WRONG class. People only concern themselves for the grade, and it is reflected in the structure of the class. Her lectures consists of showing us the steps in solving a problem, no thought required. No one actually knows what's going on, b/c screw conceptual learning. I'ts a shame
I wish I could take all chemistry courses with Dr. Smith. She is willing to explain every problem to you that you ask if you go to her office hours (which many people don't take that advantage). She posts all old and practice exams from years ago to the most recent ones. I struggled in CHEM 200 and got an A in CHEM 201.
She really knows the material. Helpful in office hours. Hard tests-chemistry is hard. I didn't buy the book and hadn't problem without it. She doesn't use the online homework so don't bother paying for the boom at all. STUDY
Best chemistry professor at SDSU. She doesn't teach out of the book, so don't waste your time buying it. Pretty much just go to class, study for the weekly quizzes (she gives you previous years' to study) and do well on the tests. Lab is fairly easy, the lab reports are straight forward and the TAs are very helpful during office hours.
The best chemistry class I have taken so far, and I wish all my coming chemistry classes be with Dr. Smith. By attending lectures, never miss a quiz, and practicing a head of time for sure you will end up with A. I bought the book and never used it just pay attention to her lectures practice old exams and quizzes that she post and you will do great
Chem 201 was my favorite chemistry class I've taken (much better than Chem 200). Dr. Smith was a good lecturer and kept the class well organized (recitation and lab too). She was good at simplifying complex concepts. Her exams are difficult, but the weekly quizzes in recitation prepare you for them. She even likes to crack a few jokes in lecture.
This is my 3rd semester of Chem, and Dr. Smith is by far my favorite chem teacher! While I still find it challenging, her teaching style is the best I've seen so far. She goes through problems step by step. Don't be surprised if you spend an entire lecture only doing one question. She has a lot of material online to help you succeed as well.
She's pretty straight forward and only lectures what will be on the test. If you skip even one lecture, you'll miss a lot so make sure to go. The only thing I didn't like about her class is sometimes her writing. It's a little messy but everything else is fine and the class was pretty easy
Study previous quizzes and exams and you will get an A. She really breaks down the examples step by steps. The best/most organized chem class I've taken at SDSU. Lecture, lab & discussion material all related which helped me learn better. Smith's handwriting is horrendous though. Offers 4 EC's: 1 at the beginning & 3 at the end (5pts each)
The worst chem teacher I've had. She talks too fast, doesn't give clear definitions, can't read her handwriting. Luckily quizzes and tests are provided for practicing beforehand, but really the only thing holding me afloat was the weight lab/recitation carried. Good luck.
Study all 3 previous years quizzes for every quiz, and you can get a 100% on every quiz. Do the same for every exam. First exam was really easy and second and third can be hard, but not if you study your notes and practice a lot of problem. The final is super easy if you study - I got a 98% on it. She gives extra credit so attend lecture.
Dr. Smith is a genuinely down to earth professor and cares about her students. Her lectures can be dry, but that's really because the material is dry so she does her best to make it interesting and easy to understand. Attending lectures is one of the best things you can do for your grade. Labs are time-consuming, but doable.
Best chemistry professor I have had at SDSU. Very clear expectations and ample materials to prepare for the exams and quizzes. Lectures are a little dry, but hey that's chemistry. Easy A if you put in the effort. Highly recommend taking this course with this professor.
Her lectures are sometimes hard to follow because she fidgets a lot and its distracting. All three exams are 20 questions (MC), but they can be tricky because she puts answers youd get using the wrong formulas. The lectures are posted online, so going to class is unnecessary, but there are three extra credit in-class opportunities.
Much easier than Chem 200. No online homework, just study the resources she gives online for quizzes and tests. She gives extra credit throughout the semester which gives a 2% boost, which is a lot for this class. Also, if you go to class shell tell you what to study. Exams can be hard but if you work hard youll be fine. Final exam was easy.
Smith is a great professor who teaches the material well! She throws in a few jokes from time to time, but the lecture is usually dry. 3 exams, final, 9 quizzes, but she provides study material on all of them and you can get an A on everything if you put in the time and effort! Not an easy class, but it's very doable. Work hard and you'll do great!
Dr. Smith is great at simplifying difficult material. If you're confused after lecture, go to her office hours & she will show you the easier way of doing chem problems or at least explain it in an easier way. 3rd exam is HARD but the rest are fine. I got a 90% on the 1st exam. She also curves the course fairly. A 65 is a C; 85 or more is an A.
This class was interesting. I stopped attending lecture and got 100% on one of the tests and As on the other two. Then the final was very difficult after she told us they would be exactly the same as the other tests. I am good at chem, so overall it wasn't that bad but dont take this class lightly. You might need a tutor because lectures don't help
She is a good professor but she has horrible hand writing and all of her lectures are hand written which makes it hard to take note. Her exam are also extremely hard because they aren't like the previous one like she says.
Professor Smith is the best Chemistry professor I've had while at SDSU (out of 3). She's clear about what you're expected to know on exams and she honestly cares about her students' grades. Her lectures can be dry, but she does bring in some humor. Grading criteria is simple; 3 exams + final, labs & quizzes, NO homework, plus some EC. I love Smith.
The quizzes were hard, but there's no homework. Exams were hard too but there are a few EC opportunities if you go to lecture. Also, grading is curved considerably.
Diane is a really sweet and caring professor who is passionate about chemistry. Unfortunately, this class is hard as HELL. The lectures are very unorganized and not true to what we're tested on. The practice tests are NOTHING like the practice exams and you have no homework, so when you go into the test you're pretty much blindsided.
you can tell she has good intentions and is very smart but she does not teach the subject well to first time learners. kind of just says the facts in class but rarely explains WHY she's doing what she is or HOW she got that number. also some tests questions were ridiculously hard and we had never covered in class. lab grade is included which helps.
She's a sweet lady, but this class was stressful. I went over class notes and old exams to prepare, but some of the test questions were wayyyy too complex (I swear she didn't even teach some). Quizzes are the same as old semesters, so study those a lot! Make sure to take advantage of any extra credit she offers.
Dr. Smith is an absolute angel. She is one of the best chemistry professors at SDSU! Attend class as she often gives extra credit points. A good TA for the lab always makes the course a bit easier. Dr. Smith is very straight forward and informative about concepts, problems and what she expects you to know. Be kind to her.
Super nice lady, but very boring lecturer. The tests are hard questions crammed into a short amount of time. Quizzes are just like past semesters so study those. Definitely recommend going to a tutor before exams, I wouldn't have passed the class if I didn't.
This class was definitely a class that required independent study outside of the lecture time. There are quizzes almost every week and similar ones are posted online, along with similar tests. I recommend not waiting until the day before the test to study because there is alot of information. Overall, this class was very straightfoward.
Do not take chem201 at SDSU. Exams are 20 questions in 50 minutes & avg. is 55-65%. Puts a 2% curve on the class that doesnt help. Exams are so hard she expects you to fail & is okay w it. Shes very nice & smart but doesnt teach any concepts, just math which is hard to follow in class. Records lecture & posts online so dont need to go to class
This is class is the hardest class Ive taken. Compared to chem 200, it was much more difficult and the exams are confusing and 10 times harder than the tests from last Semester. Wouldnt have passed without my tutor.
Definitely one of the best chem teachers at SDSU! Unlike Chem 200, she goes through every problem with you in class that you are expected to know for quizzes and exams. Lab has some really easy and other really difficult labs. Spend ample time studying for the quizzes and tests and you should have no problem doing well. Gives EC on Fridays, so go!
Diane knows the material but doesn't teach it in the best way. Practice the quizzes before each recitation. Tests are hard since they are 20 questions in 50 minutes. Go to A+ review before tests and you'll do fine. Lectures are recorded so no need to go to class. Hardest part of the class was the lab so make sure you choose a good TA.
My honest experience: - tests are difficult since you only have 50 min, so prepare well - prepare for each quiz since they're not easy either - labs were easy, you can find sample reports online of you are stuck on yours... - Smith is a very good lecturer, goes through each type of problem well - people complain cause chem is hard,
Follow the old tests and quizzes very closely.
Dr. Smith is one of my favorite professors at sdsu so far. As a chemistry major myself, she makes the subject even more interesting because of her quirky personality and her love for teaching chemistry. The class is extremely manageable and you will excel as long as you take good notes from lecture and study previous quizzes and exams.
Unlike chem 200, this class is very straightforward. Everything that is on quizzes and exams is clearly gone over by Dr. Smith during her lectures. She randomly gives out extra credit 3 times throughout the semester which will immensely help your grade. If you attend lecture and study you'll do great.
I absolutely loved her lectures. They helped me learn and she truly cares about her students. She works through each problem and is super helpful.
Diana is a great professor. She is super smart and can answer any chemistry question you have. Go to class, pay attention, take notes, put in the time studying, and you will do well.
she is amazing at teaching chemistry! she is so clear and I learned so much. the better professor out of the two. but chem201 is so hard for no reason. they make the questions more complex than it should be, but make sure to understand her lectures and ask questions!
Best chem prof I've had at state! Really helps you understand the info and her lectures are really clear. Tests can be hard but she gives you past exams so as long as you do practice test and stay up with the material you'll be fine.
Lectures were hard to get through without falling asleep or trying to pay attention. Chem 201 in my opinion was on the same scale as chem 200 (learning wise). If you could take another professor, do it.
She was not the best teacher and a little hard to understand how she explained some things. I would say that the difficulty was pretty average for a chem class but I took AP Chem in high school so some stuff was a review for me. The tests are super hard but I still got an A in the class. Everyone complained about her but the subject is just hard.
