One of the best math teachers I've had, second only to Mrs. Ward, but definitely better than Mrs. Vulfson. Take her you won't regret her. She allows retests if all the class missed the same problems.
Best teacher I've ever, very thorough, patient and answers any questions. Encourgaging teacher willing to explain things OVER and OVER until its drilled in your brain! She shows enthusiasm for math so some may be intimitated - but she by far is the BEST math teacher a student could have.
She's a very good teacher. She speaks very loudly. She knows what she's teaching. If the average of the class does bad on a test, she'll give retakes. Her tests are pretty easy, but pay attention to the questions.
Great teacher - not too hard and makes things very clear. Highly recommend.
She is the best. she teaches very well, and she is very helpful. she knows math well and she does not make you confuse with formulas. her tests are fair and she answers your questions during the test. I recommend her highly.
gives retakes if the class average is low, moves at a good pace and will reexplain things if you ask; isnt too worried about time or being on the lecture schedule- just wants you to get down the core for calculus; homework is not intensive nor are the chapter tests- just got to give in a little effort to get a C or B
she very willing to help. One of the best teachers at school. Thank you!
her pace is too fast, only spends one week on a chapter. for a 5 month class it felt more like a five week class..yells out her lectures. if sandvick or ward is teaching a class take them instead of this lady..very boring!!!!
The previous student said she was too fast paced. I thought she was very slow paced. In fact, most of the time she would take too much time explaining things. Of course, I was in a 16 week course. She's very thorough and explains things so you can understand. She's a great Algebra teacher.
Best math teacher I've ever had. She really dumbs it down and helps out everyone. I really like her. Whoever said she is too fast is crazy. I'm taking her for an 8 week trig course and she fits everything in perfectly. Really, she's the best.
At first I thought she went too fast, but I think that i just wasn't prepared enough, she is one of the best teachers around, and explains everything so that you would have to be retarted not to understand it. If you have the choice between her and someone else, choose her!
Professors like Diane are rare. Her methodology for teaching is unrivaled (compared to my previous teachers) Exceptional proficiency and experience -most can't synchronize teaching and students and she does this perfectly. Anyone willing to learn from her has an opportunity to learn, and if by chance they don't, it s because they weren't willing.
She is a great teacher. Took both her classes and ace it. She makes the class fun and interesting and helps students that are having trouble understanding the subject. I miss her class =)
Diane is a great teacher! She's fun and wants you to succeed. She helps you during the tests, and doesn't give too much homework. If you take all the class' notes you already have a great chance to do well on her tests. Attendance is very important in this class, if you miss it you get lost. I'm definetely taking 96 w/ her again!! She's amazing!
Great! Very nice, knowledgeable, and fair. Plain and simple: awesome!
Professor Squillaro was a great math 95 teacher, but the 96 course moved rather fast. must keep up in class. sometimes she is helpful in answering ?'s. If you are a math person, she will be great for you, but for those of us who struggle, she is a little difficult.
She assigns homework every class, and uses the beginning of class to answer any questions from the night before's. If you're confused and don't use this time, it's your fault if you fail. She's always willing to answer questions and take extra time if you need it. I would definitely recommend taking this class!!!
Squillaro is a GREAT teacher. Helps you with anything, and is clear. Gives hmwk every day, but isn't a lot. Uses start of class to go over questions which is really helpful. Really nice person too. Jokes around but doesn't waste time. I highly recommend her!!
Best math teacher I have ever had
Diane is a gifted and patient educator. She explains the principles and the WHY of math. She will repeat, if necessary, the same thing, six diffident ways, under everyone gets it. Take notes, ask questions and do your homework and you will be successful. STRONGLY RECOMMEND!! Has a nice, dry sense of humor, too!
GREAT teacher, I have a bit of trouble as it is in math, but she helped me through it. If I would have done all my home work I would for sure have gotten at least a B. She explains everything different ways and will repeat everything step by step. She starts a bit slower and then picks it up a bit as you get accustomed...HIGHLY recommended
Great teacher !! BEst math teacher at Mesa!! Ive never been able to understand math, and she makes it sooo easy to understand !! She assigns homework everyday but you need homework for math to understand it anyway!! Highly recommended!!
I loved taking her class! She is very clear and thorough, just take notes during class and ask her to explain anything you may not understand. There is homework almost every day and it is collected at the end of the chapter so don't fall behind. Tests were short and on the easier side mostly, with bonus questions sometimes for extra credit.
Diane is the best math teacher I have ever had!
Most amazing math teacher ever...if you have the chance to take her, DO IT!
I actually scored to go into Math 46, but had such a bad teacher, that I sent myself back 2 levels. She makes me LOVE math. She is the best math teacher I ever had.
This woman is a gem! She is one of the best Math teachers I have ever had. She is very clear and thorough in her explanation of the material and she won't move on to something else unless she feels comfortable that everyone has a good grasp on the concepts. Her tests are short but a little challenging and homework is minimal.
Amazing Professor! Math is my worst subject and she made it fun for me. Take her and no one else, you won't regret it!
i will be taking her this semester. i heard she is a great teacher, but im not too happy with the amount of homework! :'(
easy A class. she is extremmly helpfull and makes sure students understand material. may be alittle bias tword her older studend but never the less she is awsome!
She's awesome & really wants to to learn & understand the material
really great teacher! she does not only explain the process but why it actually works! best math teacher i had!!
This woman is a gem! She is one of the best Math teachers I have ever had. She is very clear and thorough in her explanation of the material and she won't move on to something else unless she feels comfortable that everyone has a good grasp on the concepts. Her tests are short but a little challenging and homework is minimal.
She is easy to understand & very helpful although, she is unorganized & really rushed. Every class had to go over the dismiss time and final is 30% hw 5%. So in order to get an A is to score A on most test and specially on the final which could be difficult depending on class level.
She does not have an organized syllabus, exact exam dates, and chapters covered in the course. She is the most unorganized professor ever! Her exams are very difficult! Be ware. Take her at your own risk if you are not good at math, avoid her.
I agree. The syllabus is basically useless. She will choose the homework to be assigned in class 2 minutes after she finished lecture. Her exams are way harder than the material she teaches.Lecture is very boring. I would choose another teacher anytime.
This professor is unorganized, she doesn't explain the material, her exams have nothing to do with what she teaches in class. I thought I made a good choice taking her class MWF but instead I wasted a semester in her class. Her syllabus is useless. I spent hours at the tutoring center & it still wasn't enough. I wouldn't recommend her. Avoid her!
One of the best math teachers I have taken while in college. She explains material well and even has an optional final study session at end of course. Also offers many opportunities to points back on tests as well as drops and lets you retake the lowest test. She is amazing I wish I could have taken her for all of my math classes :D !
Diane is an awesome math teacher. I've taken her for 46 & 96 & got B's both times. Has office hours every day for an hour to go over anything you need. Those of us who took advantage got good grades. She is funny, & really wants all to pass. Make up tests, hw not req, lots of reviews, she's great. Anyone who didn't like her just sucks at life.
I would not advice people to take this instructor due to my experience. I tried hard in her course. Her tests are unclear. She uses examples that are not from book or class. Stay away if possible.
Math 38 is not much of a challenge but when the instructor is unclear about exams and hw, then it becomes hard. There was no syllabus to inform studets of upcoming exams or what chapters would be covered.
If you are not good with math do not take this teacher. She rushes through the whole chapters. Exams are hard. Most of her 96 class failed the course. That is why she is not teaching 96 this semester. If you have her good luck. Try not to take her.
Did not learn anything in this class. The professor is Crazy hard when it comes to exams. That basically determines your grade. Just the exams. Many of us failed even tho we tried our best and went to office hours.Stay away please!
If you go to class to learn and if you are responsible, this is the instructor to take. She knows who is there to really learn and she will help you out until you have mastered all the skills you need to get an A. If you show up to every class and do all your homework, it's an easy A. Diane rocks!!
One of my first math teacher in Mesa and will be looking forward to take again next semester in a higher class
Diane is wonderful! I never understood algebra until I took her class. She is very clear and is super helpful to students. She won't move on until everyone understands. Tests are only around 10 questions, and if you understand the concepts, you'll pass! Take your time and ask questions!
Best math teacher, she explains thoroughly and in depth. Teaches you math tips and tricks. She doesn't take attendance. You can retake your tests to get a better grade. She helps you a lot.
SO MUCH HOMEWORK!!! TOO much. 40 questions a section and about 8 sections a chapter... Also not very clear when she teaches the lesson. Made math even more difficult for me.
Had her for Math 46. Got Her again for 96 and was stoked! This teacher will do everything in her power to help you pass, honestly cares about her students. That doesn't mean she makes it easy for you, or that you don't have to pay attention or do homework. You have to put the effort in. Amazing teacher- they don't make them like her anymore!
Caring professor, enjoys her work. Fair and easy to talk to to when help is needed
She is an amazing professor. She explains things so well and if you dont understand she takes the time to explain. Out of all the professors I have had she is honestly the most caring and helpful one. Take her class do your work and ask questions you wont fail.
I would take her again, she is an amzing person and professor. You'll do good if you know what you are doing, pay attention in class and ask questions. She also makes class really fun and makes math look easy.
The best math professor I've ever had. She really takes the time to make sure everyone is understanding the material. She is great at answering any questions you may have. She is very upbeat and makes math exciting. You are allowed to do test corrections on every test no matter your grade. She is there for extra tutoring hrs. Hw is extra credit(:
She is very helpful and truly wants her students to pass. She gives study guides before an exam which is very similar to the actual test. I highly recommend her.
She is VERY helpful. Expect a lot of material and memorization (but that's in any trig class). You can tell she actually loves her job and WANTS you to do good and pass. Highly recommended.
I LOVED HER. She explains things so much that if you don't understand by the test then you didn't go to class or you didn't pay attention. The homework is all extra credit. DO IT. Or you will fail the tests. Grades are all exams. So go to class and you will do well on the exams. I got 100% on every exam! A+ in the class! She is the best!
Straight forward lectures. She wastes no time. Show up, pay attention, and you'll pass. She is very understanding and charismatic. I hate math, but absolutely loved her class. She makes the class fun without even trying.
I have never had such a great math teacher in my entire life. She is a great teacher , she gets to the point while still explaining the material well and cares about you and your grade. If you are taking this class please take her you will not regret it!
Ms. Squillaro is the most amazing professor I've ever had! Her passion towards math is so inspirational. The way she describes things is absolutely brilliant, every lecture is amazing, she makes learning math fun! Whenever you take a math class check to see if she teaches it and take her class! Love always, Alexis Wall
Very detailed. takes you through every problem step by step. i failed this class twice before but with her help i passed. her lectures are amazing . she explains things for you to see it in your head before continuing and for a visual person, like me, i needed that.
Professor Squillaro is an amazing teacher. You don't find too many professors who are actually good at teaching, knowledgeable yes, but not able to relay their knoledge to students. There are many tests, extra credit through the homework, as well as test corrections. If you show up & study the study guides, there is no way you won't pass.
Professor Squillaro genuinely cares about her students and teaches in an understandable manner, especially for those struggling. However, in this class it was necessary to do the homework, for a lot of the hw questions and lecture notes resemble what she tests on. Homework is extra credit and DOES make a difference. She really knows how to teach.
I'm sure you can find much better professors than her. She doesn't simply use formulas instead she takes the long way which is sometimes good but most of them not. i would definitely take someone else.
Professor Squillaro is one of the best professors you can find. Math is not my best subject but in this semester she was my favorite. She explains the material from her heart. She relates math to real life situations. She will make sure the class understands. She gives extra credit for homework. Amazing person!! I'll definitely be taking her again
Only thing she graded us was on test. I did all the HW but at the end of semester received ZERO points for them.
One of the most unapproachable professors I have ever met in my life, but I admit she is a real good teacher. She explains math concepts very thoroughly and makes sure the class understands what she is saying. I felt like I was wasting her time when I would approach her after class, so be cautious if you want that sort of connection with your prof.
If youre taking math 96, take her class! Homework is extra credit and tests are almost like the practice tests. Her lectures are easy to follow and pushes you to go to office hours, which also helps bump up some points from previous test.
Good teaching style, very visual &loud and will go at the pace of the class. She cares and her test are based off practice test. homework is NOT MANDATORY but if you do the homework you get enough practice to know the material for the test. Not a hard class just go to class & seek help if needed. She will help to get you to pass!
Amazing professor; she teaches in a manner where everything taught is broken down almost to the basics so that it can be understood and is willing to explain further if needed. The grading criteria is clear, with multiple graded quizzes, a final, and with optional homework as extra credit, but doing the homework will help you understand it better.
She is a great teacher. I was rarely confused, she's great at lecturing she really makes sure she gets the points across. Her class is graded by test average though, which is hard to understand at first. And the final is worth 25% of the grade. HW is extra credit DO IT. It boosts your grade 2%. Take her for this class, listen, study and you'll pass.
make sure you work on every sample test she gives over and over and over again!!! the key to success in her class is really doing well on the tests and final. but don't worry, if you attend her class, take notes, study for tests, you will be fine. she will not give you any surprises in the test, super similar to her sample tests. good luck:)
if you struggle with math TAKE HER CLASS! I have always struggled with math and I got an A in her class. She breaks down every lesson to basics and makes every chapter easy to understand. She truly does everything she can to set her students up for success. Sample tests are given before each test and every test is exactly like the sample test.
v nice and caring, genuinely wants you to get it. Build a good foundation in the beginning and it helps. Tests(4): 75%, Final: 25% : tests similar to sample and lecture, gives points on work as well, + test corrections. Homework is extra credit. Had a embedded tutor and she was helpful. quarantine: posts lecture vids that are clear and easy
Math is not my strongest subject and I feel like her teaching style is old-school. Get ready for a dense 40+ homework problems every week and it has to be done on pen and paper. Her course is very time consuming and I do not recommend taking her if you struggle with math
I appreciate professor Squillaro. If you like math, take her!
I am absolutely terrible with math; I need to have steps broken down and have everything explained piece by piece. If you're the same, I strongly recommend taking this class with this professor! She clearly cares about her students understanding the material and offers plenty of tutoring! She gives out study guides for each exam and goes over them!
She's a very nice professor and she tries to help you all she can. Personally, her teaching style just isn't for me. She likes to break down every problem to the very detail and she repeats herself a lot and then it can take 45+ min of class just to get through one problem. It's a little too slow for me and it makes things more confusing.
If you have any sort of anxiety, I would not recommend Diane Squillaro. Her teaching style is extremely abrasive; loud outbursts, slight mocking tone when answering questions, and very cynical when discussing curriculum. She will teach you the MOST DIFFICULT way to solve a problem. And the MOST DIFFICULT problems will be on her test.
She explains everything in steps but requires you to show all your work, cheating in class is not an option. If you plan to take this class you need to be ready to actually learn and sit down and take the time. She does not grade by correct answers she grades by work. If you like math or working towards a math-related major I recommend this class.
I highly recommend taking this Professor if you haven't taken math for a while. If you do test corrections you will get at least a 70% on all exams, if above 70% you can earn 3-5% to your grade. HW due at the end of semester. Exams are straight forward. Overall great experience will come back to her for help with other classes.
This professor is amazing!!!! She is great at teaching and always finds ways to help her students understand the concept. I totally recommend taking her classes, you will not regret it.
professor squilarro was a really good teacher; she was always asking us if we had any questions and she had no problem explaining everything over and over until everyone got it. The exams are the hardest part of her class, but as long as you study and do the homework, you should pass them.
Took a condensed math 116x class. There is lots of homework but tests are the bulk of the grade. She is very good at explaining math concepts and answering student's questions so that they understand. Even if you aren't naturally gifted at math she gives chances for extra credit and redo's. As always the effort you put in is what you will get out.
NOT an easy A. Prof is caring & passionate, but only gives 1-2 examples & then tests on the hardest version of each question; not a fair representation of what we actually knew. She gives EC but only for those who are way behind. Lots of HW but it's not gone over so it's not helpful to learning the material. She's kind, but expect to be challenged!
Took 116X, 3 hours but worth it in the long run. She has more time to go over certain subjects compared to her normal 116 class. A lot of math but her study guides are probably the best thing to go off. Flexible with homework as you dont have to complete it all and you can gain points back from a corrected test, hard but doable!
One thing I have to say about this class is: STICK WITH IT! I felt like the first couple of weeks were the hardest because it felt so fast. But Professor Squillaro has great lectures and will 100% help you if you need it. Not the easiest class I've ever taken, but if you practice and ask questions you will pass!!
PT 1. Grading criteria is mainly based on exams (10% HW, 10% Skill Checks, 80% Exams). The Professor had great lectures that left you with what you need to know for tests. It was definitely not an easy A, and a lot of studying time was needed. In a retake you can get up to a 60% or 2-5% added on if you got above 60% initially.
PT 2. However, this means that you need to get a good score in every test if you are looking for an A. Practice exams are very similar to the actual test, so study them a lot. She responds to emails very quick and has office hours. Class is probably not for people who do not have a lot of time to spend on it, but she is super nice and helpful.
I honestly loved her class, I hate math but she made it easy and understandable. Exams are easy since we get lots of review before. Homework is easy and she helps with some problems in class. Honestly one of my favorite classes.
She cares about you and wants you to succeed. She holds time after class to do board work which is very helpful. She has high standards but helps you get to those standards.
Great professor, very caring and willing to help. TEST HEAVY, so if you are someone that has test anxiety or does bad on tests, I suggest a different professor. The homework assignments are all in the book (pricey) but she does allow you to take pictures of her book in the front of the class for those who are unable to purchase the textbook.
She is a very good professor, but the class is very TEST HEAVY, and getting one bad grade on one exam will pull your grades down a lot. She gives out sample exams that are 80% accurate to the exam, which helps a lot.For grading you need to show every step of working to get full points on the exam. To take this class you must be good with exams.
Over explains problems, shes nice but needs to lay back on overexplaining things and choosing the most difficult way to solve problems.
I agree with other ratings on this page, if you have any sort of anxiety or nervousness coming into this class it will only get worse. She mentioned that if you have anxiety then it should be left at the door along with your pride, I'm not sure she understands how anxiety works. Very intense, aggressive and lecture heavy along with a mocking tone.
Professor Squillaro is the best!! I was really nervous about taking this class since I had been out of math for years and needed prep for calculus. She gave me a solid understanding and a great refresh. Her class was definitely tough—no notes allowed on tests—but she's so thorough in her teaching that it really sticks.
She's nice but I simply did not "click" or understand her teaching style. I'm not saying she's a bad professor but if math is not your strong suit or you're a bit nervous, I'd suggest finding a different professor, taking her class as a first time college student was a mistake, she does give an insane amount of homework which is really annoying.
