This professor knows that her class is taken as part of the cores. She explains material thoroughly and even does a recap of her previous lecture in the beginning of class. She wants you to get an A, and there's no final, just quizzes and a group project that are all manageable. She responds promptly and thoroughly to students.
Very boring lectures but aside from that very nice lady! She does not assign tests but instead requires 5 reading quizzes, a individual paper, and a group project. Quizzes are easy and she is a rather lenient grader in general.
Diane is a great professor and she is very knowledgeable . she takes attendance. . No midterm or final. but there are about 5 quizzes and she drops the lowest one, papers and group project. easy Excel and Access assignment. Take her and you will learn a lot in the field of business and information technology.
Took her for 140. This is a survey class, meaning you learn a little about a variety of things. This can make the class seem boring, or the subject seem dry. But I loved this class and this professor. This class was easy, and she was helpful. If you're wanting to see if the MIS field is for you at all or just looking for an A, take her.
I took this class over Winter Intersession and she made it bearable. There really is no reason not to do well and she's super helpful with assignments and a lenient grader. She's also really nice and she wants to help.
Took her night class, she is very boring. If you go to her class you will pass, but will probably fall asleep
She is not a good teacher. She tries to help but is not really helpful. . I would not recommend taking her as a teacher. Attendance is mandatory and lectures are boring. She goes through assignments very quickly making them confusing. However, she is not the worst grader ever.
If you study her PPs the quizzes are an easy A. There is no midterm or final! The group project is easy and she gives you plenty of time to work on it. The Excel and Access assignment were really challenging and she goes trough the demonstrations SO FAST. It was so hard to keep up with her. Lectures are awful
Not a bad professor, but I learned nothing in her class. Her class is lecture based, with some time given during the second class to work on the Excel and Access assignments. Easy grader, but takes FOREVER. I turned in a paper mid April, and she gave me the grade back after the final. No midterm just weekly quizzes and group final project.
NO exams, BUT QUIZZES every class, 40% of ur grades, 25 multiple choice questions for each quiz. have to stay in class because u have to turn in all the excels (12 excels)later. worth 20% of your grade. 25% of group work, papers+presentation 10% of ur individual paper . participation only 5%. if u wanna A? work hard of it.
In order to get a high grade in this class, you gotta work for it. Professor Diane is a really good professor. Lots of lecturing, so it gets boring sometimes. Easy grader as long as you put in the work. No need for textbook if you take notes and study slides.
She is a nice lady who wants to help. She is helpful if you ask her questions. Pretty boring and long lectures. She goes through the excel project really fast- this was where I did not do so great. Easy grader and gives you feedback
Fairly easy class and she's willing to help and truly wants the best for you. Quiz in class every week but no midterm, and final is a group project but it's not that bad. Study the slides from the lecture for quizzes and they'll be easy A's. Follow her feedback on assignments and you'll get a good grade. DON'T buy the book, it's all on the slides
Mrs. Tarkowski is extremely knowledgable in MIS, and she knows it. At first she can come off as rude and unapproachable, but she turned out being one of the best professors I have had. Her feedback is incredible, it really helps you understand what you are doing wrong, why it is wrong, and how you can fix it!
Took the online class. Very confusing layout and was never really sure of what she exactly expected on assignments since it was disorganized. I dont know why but I feel like she's picking favorite in an online class.....
Knows her stuff Doesn't know how to convey it. Took her online course, D2L page was such a mess I had to spend half an hour every time I logged in re figuring out where everything is. The assignments (excel and access) have nothing to do with anything in the lectures. Bad lectures, slow, put on 2x speed or die. Better yet: DO NOT TAKE
Professor Tarkowski is great! In her online class she uploads all lectures, projects and presentations at the beginning of the quarter. Assignments are due every Monday with extensive directions for each (including an easy quiz each week). She responds to emails quickly and is always willing to help. Easy grader too. Take this class!!
She is a great professor! Keep up with he work and don't procrastinate. You will do fine in the class, there is not reason you shouldn't earn an A. Seriously. Also, she has an open door policy and is always available for help. The only reason this class will be hard is if you wait until the last minute to do stuff.
Started the class believing it would difficult, came out on top! She is a good professor and is very knowledgeable. If you are into technology or accounting continue to follow up with her after the class has ended. She is a great resource and if you push yourself you will get everything you want out of this class and more. Definitely has changed me
Just do the work and stay on task. the only reason people have done bad is because they (1) don't ask for help and (2) wait until the last minute to do assignments. You have the opportunity to work ahead so do it! Also, my group was amazing to work with and she is a great resource for information technology.
Great professor! Minoring in MIS because of her! Definitely wants you to work hard and if you put the effort in you can get a great grade! Taking her again for my future MIS courses!
Finally received my grade! Grade aside, she is phenomenal. I was a late hence my B- but she gave you opportunity to actually do the work and show her that you learned. Great professor, make sure you stay on top of the quizzes. As much as it may seem to be a hassle, I see the value in the information because that is what we will all be dealing with.
what can I say. she is the nicest professor and most knowledgeable professor I have ever met at DePaul. Quite frankly she should get a medal for how thoroughly she explains this information. At first I thought I was going to get a headache, but she made the information understandable which led me to get a better grade than what I thought Iwouldget
Prof T is really a nice lady. She might come off as hard but she isn't. She gives you chances to do drafts and resubmit your work. She wants you to learn and pass and loves to help out. She makes the grading and assignments very clear. I would take her again. Do the work and you'll do fine.
Do not take this class online.... The group project is VERY confusing, she posted all the instructions for it late. The excel and access assignments aren't difficult but she somehow makes them super complicated with HUNDREDS of steps (not kidding) and very specific grading criteria. Super strict about grammar on both papers.
Do not take this course online. The group project is a 12-page paper split between 5 people, and the instructions are incredibly vague and hard to understand exactly what she wants. Besides that, every week has a quiz and discussion post which are based off textbook readings and online lectures. Not a terrible course but very frustrating overall.
Professor Tarkowski had to take over for Professor Kanter over halfway through the course and she's provided everything she can to make the adjustment as smooth as possible. Posts online lectures, practice quizzes, and guides for the excel problems on d2l. She's obviously an intelligent professor who wants students to succeed
Horrible, online class is beyond unorganized. Half the class left. Way too much work with terrible instructions and organization you dont even know whats going on
Do not take any online classes from her. It is extremely unorganized and the directions are way too vague. There is also a lot of work and it usually takes long to do because the instructions do not help at all.
Please AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Very picky teacher. She gives out feedback, but it doesnt help. If you ask for help she will tell you to look at the syllabus. Do not take her class.
Not a good teacher. Gives you all assignments on first day and doesn't let you know how to do any of them.
Dont know why she has so many bad reviews this class was so easy, she does the assignments in class with u so u now how to do them and no final or midterm, there was 1 chapter quiz a week and you just kept the quizlet open next to you and I got a 100 on everyone, she was also so nice and always wanted to help u
I would say it was mostly hard because i procrastinated and ended up doing work last minute a lot. However, It is common sense, you read the lectures or book, write notes, take the quizzes and do the assignments. Her grading is pretty tough on papers not gonna lie but its because she has high standards and wants to make you more professional.
Aside from the online the quizzes and early excel material, the class is difficult and there is a lot of content, but all of it is important. I put the most hours into this class in my college career and it was worth it because I'm able to apply what I learned to the real world. Tarkowski is very responsive and clear with what she wants!
Overall this class is a lot of work. Classes consist of lectures which are boring, weekly quizzes, and excel/access assignments. These assignments were hard and it took forever for us to get feedback on them. FInal is a group project that you work on throughout the quarter. It is a little rough. Plan on dedicating a lot of time to this class.
I really enjoyed Diane, only real con is that she can be a slow grader. Quiz once per week on d2l (easy based on lecture from previous week), 1 excel assignment every week (she takes you step by step in class), 1 access assignment every week after done with excel, final is a group project that's very easy. Best advice, go to class don't take online
I took this online because of Covid-19. She is unsympathetic about grading and late work even with Covid-19. There is 50-page PowerPoint, a quiz, discussion post, excel assignment, paper, and group project assignment due every week. Her instructions are vague and unhelpful. She also is unhelpful and unavailable. AVOID AT ALL COST.
I took this class online b/c of Covid. I have never had such a bad experience with a professor than I have with her. Unsympathetic, rude, and misunderstanding are the first words that come to mind; she's very vague with her instructions on assignments and provides ZERO leeway with assignment deadlines. I'd give a 0 if I could, AVOID!!!!!
Too much homework, especially during COVID-19. I am constantly stressing about this class. Unclear instructions for all assignments.
Took this class during COVID-19. She sucks at organizing her assignments which makes the class confusing at first. The excel/access assignments can be challenging, but they are doable. Her feedback on the essay, assignments, and final project were most likely copy and pasted. She wasn't the most pleasant person to talk to either.
Took this class online during COVID-19, worst choice ever. Professor was not very helpful and provided very vague instructions. does not help much when you email for help if you face any technical issues, it's on you to fix them. good professors are often kind and understanding of others' situations, always.
As the wise words of another reviewer, take this class in-person if can. Online during Covid was a mess. She's too organized, which can be okay, but it overwhelmes. It is 1 quiz/week based on lecture, 1 assingment on excel and one on access which has step by step solution, and one final group project. She's very straight forward w/o emotions I feel
She is not very willing to help with tech issues and requires any tech questions you have be solved by the DePaul Help Desk which is a waste of their time since she is head of tech at DPU. She is nice but there is group hw, individula hw, full modules, and excels due every week. Since Covid, the class is even harder. Tries to teach XL online.
Do not take this class online with Prof. Tarkowski. She is almost too organized and there are so many assignments to complete for each module. She gives vague feedback and is a very slow grader. The way the class is set up is confusing, lectures are boring, and you are left to figure out issues on your own. Do not take this class.
I'm sure shes fine in person but this class online is so poorly structured. On day one you will have 400+ tabs in this section of detail. Its very evident that all the students are confused and do not know whats happening. She is way to organized and just copy and pasted her in person class to an online format. Also there is so many assignments!
I have never left a review on Rate My Professor regardless of how good or poor a professor was at their job. The only thing this Professor is good at is making students confused and assigning an exorbitant amount of work that is unclear and complicated. It's not uncommon to sit down for at least an hour trying to figure out how to do an assignment.
The best advice I can give is to take the reviews on this class serious. Extremely difficult for an intro type class, entirely unclear set up. All in one week you will be watching weekly lectures, doing discussions, writing a group paper, doing a group project, taking a quiz, doing excel assignments, and more. You might fall behind in other classes
Diane Tarkowski is literally the worst professor I've ever had. I honestly just made an account on here so I could tell everybody: RUN -- do not walk -- as far as you can from her. She is extremely disorganized and unhelpful. I've never met a college professor who's been less inclined to help her students when asked. Stay away, you've been warned.
Too many assignments with too many specific requirements.
I made this account specifically to warn other students from taking this class. So far, she has been the worst professor on my educational path, and with this approach toward students, I do not think she should teach at all. She will give you multiple assignments, does not grade them for weeks. Her class is unorganized, materials and instructions a
The most degrading teacher I ever met. She copy and pastes feedback to every student and doesn't personalize it one bit. She yells at you for "bothering" her after 6:00pm. It is insane how teachers like this even get a job in the first place. A teachers job is to inspire, the only thing this teacher inspired was for half the class to drop out.
Professor Tarkowski was one sour skittle. She was very inconsistent with her grading criteria and every turn led to confusion. The only reason I didn’t give her a lower rating is because once you figure out how to do the assignments it’s not that hard, but good luck trying to.
She is the only professor teaching this course who doesn't give answers or help students after projects are submitted. My friends with different professors got an easy A in this class, and everyone who had her got Bs or Cs. She is not helpful whatsoever and rude to those who ask for help. Whatever you do, do not take her class.
She makes this class unnecessarily difficult. She isn't the worst person but doesn't seem to care about her students. Her feedback isn't personal; just copy and paste. The worst of all if she mentions the day of the midterm that we will only have 40 minutes instead of 90. TAKE ANY OTHER PROFESSOR
This professor was not a professor I recommend that you take. She does not teach you the functions that you have to use on excel and puts it all on you. Very tough grader. However you are able to redo group assignments to get full points as well as any other assignment. Only reason why I gave her a two is she gave good lectures.
I dont understand bad ratings she was amazing
Horrible. Why is she always screaming?
Refuses to give a good grade on the first turn in no matter how good it is. Makes simple topics overly complicated. Asks extremely vague questions and gets mad when nobody answers. Easy class made difficult.
Horrible DePaul do better
I cant believe tuition is so high and we have these types of professors, this is why I transferred out of Depaul into Loyola.
Had this class last quarter, worst class ever. Simple class bad professor.
I RECOMMEND TO CHOOSE ANOTHER PROFESSOR.
really bad class very confusing its a waste of time, she makes everything harder than what it has to be
Extremely condescending and rude professor. Not a hard class but a miserable atmosphere. Tried to get on her good side by speaking up during lectures and all i gained from it was snarky remarks and random call outs.
Rude and very very unprofessional
Horrible she is so condescending I will be talking to dean of students regarding the way she behaves. No respect to students at all, and we are paying tuition for this?!!!!!!!!
Horrible professor, and overall a bad person her behavior is bad. She says that the bad reviews are because this class is hard or its not part of your major but that has nothing to do with bad reviews.
Horrible.....
She's is extremely disrespectful to her students very condescending she thinks she is above of her students not sure why
disrespectful
Her teaching style is bad, often making students feel like they're not prepared for "the business world," despite the fact that some of us have more hands-on experience than she does. It's frustrating to constantly be told that we're not ready, when many of us are already working or have real-world exposure.
Honestly the worst class I've taken so far, she grades so tough and leaves such vague feedback. Not only that, her feedback is also very inconsistent and contradicts itself. If you absolutely have to take this class as a prerequisite, honestly just get it out of the way asap so you don't have to deal with it later. Otherwise DON'T.
She gives students the option to resubmit their work, which is extremely helpful, but not when assignments are graded two hours before the resubmission is due. Her feedback is very vague, making it difficult to improve your grade. Talks down to students. Not a great experience in the course overall.
Unclear grading criteria, uses copy and paste making it unclear what is needed. But the worst part is the way she talks to her students, unacceptable.
She refuses to ever give full points
So bad, try to avoid.
Horrible professor. Her lectures are confusing and disorganized, making it impossible to follow along. She's dismissive and rude when you ask for help, and her grading makes no sense. It's clear she doesn't care about teaching, just about getting through the semester. Avoid at all costs.
Bad professor, try to avoid.
Very easy class made hard.. Very disappointed that DePaul hires these type of professors.
This was the worst I learned nothing.. so bad
Not sure what all the bad reviews are about but this professor is the best. Attendance is not mandatory. I simply showed up 3 days the first day the midterm, and the final. And got an A. Maybe everyone else has the wrong professor on the site.
The review below mine is fake this is the right page and it is fake because attendence is a huge part of the class its measured everyday and worth a lot of oints not only that there is a huge project that has to be done in person and presented which is more points than final and midterm it is impossible to get an A if you do not attend
If you have any other choices for professors, take any other professors. She is so rude and favors students and will help them more than others. She does not take any opinions that do not match her opinions, and her classes are lecture heavy.
very bad teacher. super tough grader, gives no explanation for assignments, doesn't answer questions in class or over email. Only teacher option for this course is her. Mandatory course for my degree. Wish I could have taken at community college. Avoid at all costs.
required Pearson book for daily quizzes, paying for 6 months of pearson for a 3 month course. I'd recommend audio recording because she tends to go on semi-important tangents that are not in the chapter or slides.
You take daily quizzes over the textbook, which is overkill. She gives long lectures, is not engaging, and doesn't go over how to write in a professional business tone. She is just a bore. She needs to put more effort into her class. I have professors taking the time to be more engaging and even creating the textbook into a short podcast episode.
I normally don't review professors, but please avoid this one. You will save lots of time and unnecessary frustration.
Genuinely can't say I learned anything in this class. She gives terrible feedback and will take points off if you don't name the file a specific way when you turn in assignments. I feel like she's wasting her energy and time being nitpicky about the wrong things. Don't take her if you don't have to.
Very odd approach to AI...relies heavily on AI detectors to GRADE WORK which are never accurate. Feedback is often unhelpful or unclear, and she tends to act like she knows everything. That said, if you try hard enough and get on her good side, you can get an A (the homework assignments make up most of your grade).
