A nice teacher.
Seriously I only had her for a couples of classes, but I think she is joke-able teacher
she is good, but i learn nothing in her class.if you are good at writing, go ahead!if you do really want to learn something ,never choose her classes
good~
this teacher is unprofessional. she teaches in a very law level and accpect extremely high level in her assigments. she never explain what she is looking for and she isnt willing to help much when you ask her for help. getting a in her class is impossible!
the grading is too bad..
I had no choice to take her class because all other classes were full even other students said she was super hard. Actually it is not true, but I realized she has a higher standard. Anyway, she is very helpful. I got A easily from her ESL 25, and I al still taking her now, just because I like her!
She was really helpful despite the fact that she require a higher standard. She is also always avaible and very understanding. I would recommend everyone to take her, IF they want to learn more than just the average.
I like her as a person. She has a sense of humour. She DOES have high standards, but that's NOT impossible to get A.Just work hard.On the other side, her way of teaching is kinda unclear. Most of the time we have discussions which are SENSELESS and RIDICULOUS.Hate them.
Can't really learn anything from her. Grading is hard. It seems impossible to get an A. Discussions in class for the whole quarter.
GOOD TEACHER, WILLING TO HELP STUDENT. LONG AND HELPFUL COMMENT FOR YOUR ESSAY, BUT NO REWRITE IS ALLOWED. YOU MUST HAND IN YOUR ESSAY ON TIME, OTHERWISE 10 MARKS WILL BE DEDUCTED. A IS POSSIBLE BUT DIFFICULT.
Uyeda is very fair when grading. It ensures ur quality of writing with ur grades.although her class is tough,it's still possible to get A.If u truely want to improve your writing skills, visit her often after class to ask her for comments on ur essays.she is very helpful and gives valuable comments.
She is a very helpful teacher and she makes the class very intresting. You will improve many of your English skills by paying attention to her class, but she is a hard grader. Take her if you really want to learn.
she is a really good teacher. I heard that she was bad that's not true, just follow what she says and the good thing is that she doesn't grade her students by the way their look or by religion, race she is just. She is helpful if you want to learn a lot, take her.
She's great but horriblly strict. But she's good.
If you wanna pass this class if u care about your GPA dont even think about her class. SHE SUXXXXXX. oh my god that was like a nightmare. at the begining of quarter we were 29 students after 2 weeks we were 18 at the end of withdraw deadline they were only 12 :(( yea I had to drop too. SHE IS TOO HARD.
SO HARD
She is very harsh, and doesn't seem to have enough experience for teaching as her lecture is boring.
stay away from her!! worse teacher ever. very mean and hard grader. makes stupid feel like they're stupid or something.
Her grading is really strict. Your essay doesn't have to be interesting(creativity and uniqueness are not required) but needed to be super logical. In the class, she doesn't really teach for writing. Although she is hard worker teacher, I don't recommend her class.
well, she is a super hard grader, especially on the essays. No matter how hard i tried and how much hard works i put into my essays, i still can't get good grades. But you can learn a lot of writing skills in her class. Lots of work u need to do, but it helps. Although people gave her bad comments, she is a hard working professor.
I love Diane so much! My grammar improved a lot! I followed her instruction and worked hard last quarter and I got an A. Strongly recommanded!
A = unobtainable >:(
She is nice she can provide a lot of thing to students, but i don't recommend her class.
She is a very good ESL teacher. She has her way to teach ESL students. My reading and writing skills have strengthened a lot. Nevertheless, she has a high standard and strick rules. It is not easy to get an A. However, I enjoyed her class. If you truly want to learn, you should take her class!
Her teaching technique is excellent, easy to understand. She's a hardworking teacher and well prepared. If u do want to get sth back after u pay $, she is the one. Otherwise, please don't take a sit. U must fail. She is great, but strict. Just follow the rules, u will pass. All my firends who are work hard as hard as a doggie with me are pass.
I was an "A" student last year, but I feel so stress and upset in her class. She is a nice person, however she is a mean teacher. She let me feel disappointment and sad that I never had before. She never cares what garde you have. She never cares your feeling. So don't take her class if you still want to learn English and writting.
HARD HARD HARD, if you come 3 minutes after the class starts, she puts u late ! she's also hard in grading. but overall, i'll say she's a very good teacher, even though i didn't pass her class! but i really learned alot from her! if ur a hard working student take her. Ur not FORGET IT !
She is a very harsh teacher!! Don't take her class!!
She's really hard. It's hard to get an A in the class. But she's really helpful though. She gives students many chances to rewrite their essay. To get a good grade, you have to write what she's looking for. I don't recommend Uyeda to anyone though because it's kinda bad to get a C in the class.
take pass/no pass grade
Uyeda is very strict on gradings, you might think she is really mean. But as you get to know her, she is a really nice teacher. Her way of teaching is easy to understand, tho fast, and in a very professional way. If you want to take an ESL class that is challenging, or if you really want to learn. Uyeda's class is a right choice for you.
I think she is a very good teacher but that it is hard to get an A which is a shame...
L.A.M.E unfair and unreasonably harsh. not caring about students.
I have worked my best in her class. Really! I hoped an A until the last minute but she gave me a A-! all of these to say she is hella hard!If you want get an A, u must have some kind of fancy writing style above level usually expected in ESL 25.Prepare yrself to get a lot of home work.Despite of that she is really nice, plenty of energy, not boring!
if u r taking her class be prepare cause she teaches one of the hardest. anyhow...the reason why we are coming is to learn isnt?...so why would you underestimate your capacity of understanding???, if i did it with n A, you can do it too!...after...ull see that it was a hard class gave u an strong knowledge to move easily to the next level.. =)
She is nice.. Tough Class.. but very helpful... strict on grades but thats what you deserve..FAIR!!! very fair on grades...
HARD!!!! HARD!!!!
go to class on time, do required assignments AND take pass/ no pass grade
Energetic, Fun, and she makes the class interesting. BUT she's VERY HARD on grading not to mention strict.
I just got a c in the class last qurter..really tough!
I took her on-line class last quarter and liked her a lot. She really knows how to conduct an on-line class, I wasn't disappointed at all. She is a hard grader, but also tells you what to do to be a better writer. All I know about essay writing I learned from her. She used the textbook very little though, I expect it to be used more often.
Her class was hard, but it was a lot of fun. She really cares about the topic. She gets really excited about linguistics, and that rubs off on her students.
Fun and energetic. Her class is interesting although sometimes her lecture can make you sleepy. You'll learn a lot in her class! But as for grading, she's really hard on it. If you want to learn seriously, I suggest you take her class. Just do everything she told you. As for essays, do it the way she wants it and you'll get a passing grade like me!
she is harsh and hard in grading. if by mistake you made a wrong impression once than she will not change your attitude towards you. she don't listen to student's plea or request. neither co-operative nor helpful. partial grading and comments. don't take her class otherwise you'll suffer.. she gave me 'B' instead of 'A' due to partial grading.
She is hard, but you can learn a lot from her! She is the best ESL teacher at Foothill college. She has a lot of feedbacks, and they must help you.
She is very nice, energetic and logical (her ideas and thoughts make sense most of the times), but she is very INFLEXIBLE ON GRADING. She is highly disciplined or I may say "a perfectionist" and inconsiderate of the students knowledge or writing skills. She might be a very good teacher for higher classes such as English 1A or 1B but not for ESL.
Don't believe ratemyprofessor's word! She is not as easy as u think. She is helpful but quite strict. A lot homework !!!
She is very nice out side of class. Her teaching is veru helpful and very fun! But gradeing is very harsh!
Uyeda is the probably the toughest teacher on campus. She hardly gives an A to anyone. But she is really dedicated to her class which helps you gain a lot, if you listen and follow her instructions. File Pass/NoPass if you want to take her!
I totally recommend taking ESL 26 with Diane! She is a great professor, I really enjoyed her class, and I learned a lot!!!
I took ESL 25 with her last quater and got a C+. Now im taking 26 with her again and so far my essays are getting better and better. If you really want to learn, I recomend taking her class. She may be hard but at the end is worth it!!!!
She is one of the best ESL teachers in Foothill. She can to organize student's and own work properly. Her class is really helpful
I took her class 2 years ago. She was really helpful at all. she was nice, always smile, wrote everything on broad. But she doesn't really teach too much when you go to her office hour. she doesn't explain to you why you are wrong. I should thank her, my english is getting better. she taught me a lesson. Make me strong, and, never take her class.
She was so picky on the logics inside my essays, and some of her suggestions aren't even reasonable. It might be true that my opinions aren't completely logical in her mind. But I do think my essays are about MY opinion, MY view, not her's. What I believe is none of her business. I got an A on Eng1A and I don't think she's guiding me to write well.
She is a pro, not easy at all. I spend 4-6 hours just to write a page and I still get ok credit
Even though after 6-8 hrs hard working on one weekly essay, sometimes I got an A, but usually everyone will have a C or lower grade, super strict on grading. However, you can see that she is really good at English, but somehow I think that she is not good at helping students. BTW, she doesn't have passion on teaching at all...
She is really hard !, you really have to do a lot of HW and you will have a lot of papers to write. I will say though, she was very nice and a bit funny.
Ms. Uyeda really brought my ability to comprehend and communicate in English to a whole new level. Tremendous effort on he part.
She's super hard on grading. I'm a straight A student on writing essay from lower level of ESL up to ESL 25, but when I took her class my grade drop rapidly from A to F. If you think you're good at grammar, contend, logic, organization and all... of writing an essay and you deserve an A; then, she will prove that you're wrong.
Uyeda is one of the best teacher in the ESLL. You can get an easy A if you follow what she wants. Seriously, most of the people who get C or less doesnt know how to write, dont blame the teacher. She is good as she is, we need more teacher like her
WOW, one tough teacher. Try to avoid taking her class because she is so hard to please. She jokes a lot in class, but is never lenient on grading. Getting a B in her class is already really really good.
She is one hard teacher. Hard on grading. It's very hard to get what she actually wants. She is very nice, smiling all the time and all, but hard on grading. Many dropped from the class started with 25 but most us dropped.
it was a pleasure.
She was not helpful a bit. Absolute heartless woman. If you need help do not even bother because you are not going to get any. She is not understanding at all. I would recommend not to take her class, not even if you do not have any alternative.
It is definitely not an easy A, but if you will get at least B in her class, you will get an easy A in ENGL classes. She is strict and nonflexible in grading, but she is helpful, if you will ask her about help. She explains everything in depth, it helps a lot with assignments. BUT I suggest you to take ESLL 25 with her at first and THEN take ESLL26
I think that we had really helpful exercises on reading. I found grading pretty honest and comments very helpful. We had to do a lot of work, I was a little burnt out at the end of the quarter. But I extremely enjoyed working on research paper and I'm proud of the result I have. Diane is definitely not the easiest teacher, but it's worth it.
It is definitely not difficult to get an A or at least a B, if you follow her instructions. She gives a lot of very good feedback and is def. helpful. However, she gives A LOT of homework and attendance is very important (more like in highschool). If you take ESL to be prepared and not only because you have to - go for it! But don't be lazy!
First of all, Professor Uyeda is extremely clever and interesting. I had an A in her class. Now the thing is that she is a hard grader but trust me, you will become so good that your next english classes will look like a joke for you! I definitely would consider taking her if you feel like you want to learn a lot. Lastly, she is very helpful! :)
Reading comments about Prof Uyeda made me afraid to take her class. However, it was one of the most useful classes I've ever taken. You have to put effort in it, but it will worth it. Follow her instructions cuz she’ll tell you everything she’d like to see in the assignms.Tolerable workload.Plus, she is funny and well informed about a lot of topics.
She doesnt help at all. Like youll be lost in the middle of class, and if you ask her whats wrong, I had to think twice before i could ask her to meet me in the office and she wont tell you whats wrong. Its like your just there and you do what she says, even if you give in what she asks, youll get alot less then expected.
WHOA! she's amazingly great teacher, yet amazingly hard grader. very high expectation. half of the class dropped. i'm failing at her class, but i learn a lot from her. if you're confident with your english and want to really learn something take her class. if you just want to pass, dont take it. if you are a curious type of person like me, try it~
she is a great teacher but gives alot of homework and is not understanding at all... I would prefer to not take her again for any class
I took her ESLL 26 in Fall 2013. Her classes were really tough! I can tell that she truly expected us to improve a lot... or possibly too much. But she points out what exactly you need at the time. You can definitely learn so many things from her.
Maybe she is a good teacher, but her communication skills are very bad. Even though she teaches this ESLL26 for many years, she still has a lot to say, thus interrupts students all the time. Diana doesn't interrupt only a few favorite students. Also I wish she would encourage all the students to talk and stop her head-aching interruptions .
If U want to pass class. Just dont take her class.
Do your job. Then you will get an A. Not that difficult professor. You guys who complained to her need to doubt yourself about your English level.
She is an amazing professor. If you want to learn something, you should take her class. After a few weeks my critical thinking skills went way up. When I write papers, I try to use everything I learned in her class. She is amazing and helpful. People that complain should maybe reconsider to take a lower lever English class!
She's a poor teacher. She makes you do a lot of summaryanalysis and even if you give her the format she wants, she doesn't recognize it.
Take her if you want to learn, do not take her if you care about ur GPA. She is very hard but funny and helpful
While, she is a good teacher. But it is really really hard to get a good grade even pass her class.
Her class is okay, but she is just a mean and picky person. Not helpfull at all!
A very hard English teacher even for English Speaker. If you are an international student? you may fail or just get a C
I'm an international student and I find her class to be very helpful. It's true that she is a tough grader- but that's for our own sake. She's really helpful in my opinion, just follow what she wants and you should be fine. There's no easy way in life! Work hard!
She is so mean and NOT helpful... :( I just wish I didn't choose her class.
She really knows what she does. She is the most professional and organized teacher I have never met before. Just do what she wants from you. You will get a lot of great feedback to improve your writing and more likely you'll get good grades.
She is actually awesome and not a harsh grader at all. She lets you revise your essay and gives you amazing feedback. If you listen to the lecture carefully and follow the feedback you receive, her class must be an easy A.
She takes off points on every little thing. Do not take her class if you don't want to fail
Professor Uyeda is active and clear in her class. She will help if you ask her,. BUT SHE IS A TOUGH GRADER !!! AND PICKY ABOUT EVERY LITTLE THING.. excpect C as maximum, F's for majority.
Professor Uyeda is amazing! I had her for 209 and she was very helpful. She will answer any of your questions and is very personable. If you aren't there to learn, then obviously she won't put her time into you. I would rate her as an A+. Wish she taught 1A...
She is very helpful! The most useful ESL class for international students. Some people might think she is tough, but it's actually a reasonable amount of work and I've learned a lot. I didn't do well at first, but I WORK my way up. You can go to office hour for questions. As long as you work hard, you will earn a grade that you deserve!
As a teacher, Prof. Uyeda is passion and well-organized in her class. She is open to new ideas and always patient. From a student prospective, I've learned a lot. She taught us reading skills and critical thinking, which prepares us for further classes. Homework is reasonable. As for grading, she is definitely fair. One will earn what he deserves.
I have to say she is a good teacher. But it will be very hard to get a good grade on her class.
Diane Uyeda is a Teacher of my life. She is there to dedicate herself to the students, she is very positive and engaged to the audience. Diane is very active and moving a lot around the classroom, every her lecture is clear and she does really teach something. Get ready to read though, there will be some assignments. But generally she is the best!!
Do not take her class. I was studying so hard, had done every single homework but instead got nothing. Have to retake. Feel like waste my time. DO NOT TAKE HER
Her homework is toooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much. I dont think anyone can finish it.
she's active but she had bad organization. Also, there were so much homework but she only gave you little grades.
When comparing with both my Eng1A and1B, her class is SUPER easy I can swear. I think her grading is quite generous to ESL students. Although she changed her grading to be easy, I gained a lot. Don't blame her grading too much because she is preparing us to get a better grade in future Eng classes. Some Eng profs only gave 1-2A(s) in 1 class now.
She is a good professor, but she gives lots of homework. Quizzes, midterm and final are not easy. But she grades based on your ESL level. She gives students clear instructions to do their homework. Feel free to ask her any questions about your studies, and think about it before you ask her. You have to buy a course package.
If your priority is LEARNING, she is the BEST professor I've ever met. She gives loads of assignments, but she gives back clear FEEDBACK every single time. We definitely learn something in each class because she arrange each lecture carefully. Exams are tough, mostly because of the amount, but it matters little because she generously grades.
Worst professor in Foothill, she's the reason that so many students go a low GPA. Very bad attitude and crazy homework. Not everyone want to go to UC, even CSU professors better than her. The class was a joke.
Racist. If she doesn't like you- you will not pass the class. Don't waste your time and choose another professor. Good luck
