BORING, tough grader
I honestly believe that even she doesn't know what she's talking about.
Horrible course. Blantently panders to the religious kids in the class, ostracizes the non-religious. Once told us that bad things happen in life because too few people attend mass.
So boring and monotonous and deliberately tries not to explain anything so that the class can understand. She seems to be obssessed with her own intelligence, and ostrasizes those who are not deep, philosophical thinkers. She also assigns a ridiculous amount of reading
Boring, very tough grader. I enjoyed the readings, but I did not get good grades on the exams even though I spent a lot of time preparing and wrote very good essays. Not a bad class, but should not be your first choice for prof.
so much reading of really confusing books
The course itself has great potential to be interesting. But, Yeager makes the class incredibly unenjoyable. Her condescending attitude & the immediacy with which she picks "her favorites" is frusterating. I suggest taking anyother class than hers. She is an impossible grader, and is of little help!
She is a terrable teacher and she does not help at all. AND SHE REFERS TO HERSELF IN THE THIRD PERSON. Who does that, honestly. honestly.
I took her class a couple of semesters ago, but I have to say that I learned alot in it. She does grade her "challenges" (not "tests") hard. I did not think she was that religious, like some others have said.
she talks in the third person. her class is frustrating and boring. i wish i had consulted upperclassmen before being stuck with her.
Terrible...I enjoyed the readings but her interpretations are very one-sided: if you don't agree with her, you're not gonna do well. Also makes numerous references to the Bible and Christianity that are unintelligable if you're not familiar with them. Take someone else.
Miserable class. Haughty, condescending and an incredibly hard grader. You better be a strong writer or else forget it. Incomprehensible lectures. This an upper level english class not an intro gen-ed theology class. Avoid this course.
Honestly she might be the most boring professor ever!!!! The class and the readings had potential to be really insightful and challenging but she completely takes the topic and caters it to her thinking without and avenur for interpretation. I had a celbrating at the end of class!!! DONT TAKE HER!
I had been very interested in the class BEFORE I took it. She did not do a very good job explaining the material or keeping anyone in the class awake. When we were filling out the evaluations, one guy went "if we work together we can get her fired" ..so yea, I guess that shows how great she is.

Yeager is most definitely the worst teacher I have ever had. Period. Her ability to put me to sleep was matched only by her gift for twisting concepts into incomprehensible diagrams and convoluted explanations. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
I had Yeager for Theo 001 and was not a fan. So,I was hesitant to take her again. But, I must say, she is much better this time. I would not hesitate to reccomend Yeager for anyone interested in taking her for an upper division course, as her passion is felt and she is a good professor.
Professor Yeager is definately worth taking. She turns what could be a basic, dull intro theology class into an something exciting and covers really great material. She's one of Georgetown's best professors, don't listen to the naysayers.
Not as bad as everyone makes her out to be, but not good at the same time. Write down everything she says and repeat it word for word on the test and you will do ok. Tough grader.

Professor Yeager was without a doubt the best professor I had in my 4 years at GU. I took Problem of Evil as well as Problem of God and I am more proud of the work I did for her in those classes than anything else I did at Georgetown. But hey, if you don't want a challenge and you dont want to work hard, stay away.
I think a lot of the bad ratings Yeager gets are from people who have no interest in theology/religion/philosophy and only took Problem of God because they had to. If you are someone who is genuinely interested in theology, Yeager is a great professor to take. I found her challenging, but I learned a lot.
She does get you to learn stuff but is in no way an easy grader. With her grading scale only about 6 of 50 students end up with A's, but the majority of the class does at least get a B. If you dont care as much about having a perfect transcript and are interested in Theology take her, otherwise I'd pass.
If you aren't at the very top of your class then don't try because you will get a b. Instead do nothing and you still will get a b.
Jagermeister gives tests in mult-choice, short answer, and 1 or 2 essays per test. This does not sound bad her mult-choice questions are A thru H. A,B,C,D,E is A&B,F is A&C,G is your own combination, H is write your own answer. Basically stay away at all costs. She also babbles constantly about nothing.
diane yeager and her pog class (which really has nothing to do with theology in any way) managed to successfully ruin my first semester freshmen year. the readings were unnecessary and there were several times in class where i could swear she was not speaking english. she drones on for the 50 minute class and gives terribly hard tests
Okay...so Yeager is NOT easy, but she is really knowledgable and interesting. If you don't like to think at a VERY deep level, you will hate this class. Doing well is very rewarding. If you really want to learn a lot, and you're already interested in THEO, then take her.
The comments already here are accurate: it's easy to get a B, hard to get anything else. The lectures can drag at time, but they are often more like dramatic monologues than lectures. Prof. Yeager is extremely helpful outside of class and presents interesting material.
I think theres a good word to sum up this class: dreadful. the best advise i can give anyone regarding this class is to not take it at all costs. very boring lectures, extremely in depth (not an intro class at all), ridiculous tests. dont take this...do yourself a favor
You don't need to do the reading for this class, and doing it won't help you out. Almost no one gets an A.
The class is really boring and it is really hard to get an A. The books assigned are painful to read, but Yeager talks about the book in full detail during class so reading is not exactly necessary.. but i guess it is helpful because she likes participation.. Copy down EVERYTHING she says and use it on the tests and you are good.
She is a nice professor that is very passionate about the subject matter. However she is a very hard grader, and I felt at times that the grading was somewhat unfair. If you are thinking of majoring in Theology I would definetely recommend her, as you will learn a lot. Otherwise you probably shouldn't -- under 10% of the class gets an A
Really an excellent theology professor, gets a bad rap because the average Georgetown student doesn't possess the intellectual depth necessary to perform well in her class. The class requires a lot of work and reflection, but is worth it. Although she explains everything thoroughly, you need to read to do well. Participation in class is also key.
I read all the readings and tried hard for the first midterm and did nothing for the second and got a B both times. Her grading system makes it hard to get something other than a B. Class participation is key.
Really hard grader. About 5 kids out of 70 got As. You are at a disadvantage if you didn't have prior experience with religion classes. Spark note the books that you can, I did better when I did that instead of actually reading the texts. Try to get another teacher.
Please don't take Prof. Yeager looking for an easy A and then complain when it's not the braindead intro class you expected. Take her class if you actually want to learn something.
This professor is highly under-rated and this has to be the best course I've taken so far at Georgetown. I looked forward to her class every week because she has a firm grasp on her area of study and always offers unique insight about the readings which are often vague and difficult to interpret, as is the case with most theological texts.
Horrible! Stay Away if You wanna pass! Trust me on this one i regret every second i spent in her class!
She is a really good professor! At first Problem of god did not sound very interesting but her classes were amazing! Students could/had to participate and discuss and the books (except for 2/6) were pretty good! I def recommend taking this class! You'll end up thinking about stuff u maybe had never thought of before!
If you want a mindless intro course, don't take this class. If you want to be stimulated, challenged, and learn a lot about the subject material and your own spirituality, this course is the one for you. Yeager is extremely helpful, and her class is not impossible to get an A in. Go to class, participate, and you're set for an A.
Fantastic! She is my favorite professor at Georgetown. The reading could be challenging, but she goes out of her way to explain them and does a fantastic job. You actually have to think in her class, but it's very rewarding in the end. Highly recommended.
Horrible. Boring. Weird. Harsh. Unclear. Hard Grader...... Stay away and thank me later!
Very interesting class. She takes abstract texts and makes them reasonably clear. Interesting approach to POG. Not easiest class to get an A in, as she does have favorites, but her tests are not as scary or impossible as they seem. She is brilliant and often shockingly hilarious. I think her approach to POG connects to life better than any other.
Very good teacher. Takes texts that are very hard to understand and makes their concepts very clear. Interesting class for those who think themselves knowledgeable believers or atheists. Grade is dependent on writing capabilities and depth of ideas. She does tend to play favorites.
such an annoying class. at first it was fine, but by the end it was incredibly abstract and she is not helpful when you go to meet w/ her. this is one of the harder POG classes, and it is a requirement so why take a hard one?
do NOT listen to the people who say she's a good teacher. this class is only good for you if you're willing to spend tons of time reading piles of useless philosophizing. she isn't helpful in the least and she definitely plays favorites. getting an A isn't impossible, but it requires a lot of ass kissing and hours of pointless readings. DO NOT TAKE
I really loved her and the books she assigned for Problem of God. It isn't the standard Problem of God class, but I highly recommend it. She is not easy.
Passionate teacher, but class readings are often dense. Only little reading needed, tests focus on lectured material. All classes are straight lecture, no variety. Test and essay grading is both hard.
I completely disagree with all the negative comments above. This was probably the best class I've had at Georgetown. No doubt she's challenging, but if you try, she'll teach material which you would otherwise never be able to understand.
loves citations...smh. good class tho
If you call the books that she assigns useless you don't belong at Georgetown. Georgetown students are a bunch of complainers
Pushes a very Christian outlook while the other classes actually talk about other religions. Choice of reading material is dense and at one point she even said don't use one of the author's (Berdyaev) ideas in any of your other classes because no one reads his work nor is he accepted by the intellectual world. This whole class is just BS.
She is a great problem of God teacher. Alot of reading but it is very interesting. I like it because it's not just the study of the Bible or different religions. It makes you think. Lectures are enlightening, could be a little boring in the beginning but good. DO THE WORK. Very helpful, I enjoyed the class. Material can be applied to real life
Yeager is a much better professor than some of the comments make her seem. Yes, the readings are very difficult, but she does an excellent job of explaining them during class. She is an understanding person, however, her tests (especially the multiple choice portion) are a bit painful. She definitely exceeded my expectations for the class.
Unless you're interested in Russian Literature, AVOID taking Professor Yeager's Problem of God class. Easily one of the most boring classes I've ever taken and with the most difficult set of reading. Take a different POG class - it'll be much easier.
Do not take POG from Prof. Yeager. She gave a pop quiz early in the semester on a reading and her classroom policies. Readings are too large, and when a novel is read, the theological connections made are tenuous.
yeager is an amazing prof but her class is hard. you need to do the reading and participate in class to get on her good side but if you pay attention and do the hw you will appreciate the lectures. its not an easy A but if you put in the work you'll do well. shes clear about what she wants you to do. the class is rewarding and shes a great teacher
She's not too good at keeping the class focused and on-track but if you develop a reasonably good understanding of the concepts involved, you'll do just fine. She expects you to be thorough and precise in your analysis, but she's fair and if you do and understand at least most of the reading you'll have no trouble.
She is absolutely amazing. Will blow your mind every class. It's not about looking at a million religions it's about what the point of religion is at all. She's extremely helpful when you come to her office hours and when it comes to grading, she tells it like it is.
I had Dr. Yeager years ago...she is a brilliant woman and a very effective teacher who helps her students develop sharp critical thinking and writing skills. She is one the few who really prepared me for graduate school and I am fortunate to have been her student.
I loved Yeager for Ethics & Ecology. She was passionate about the subject matter and the class is a combination of lecture and discussion. Readings are interesting and rarely very long. Very little day-to-day work: only a couple papers and a presentation that's very flexible. Yeager is so sweet and answers questions clearly and wants to help.
If you're just looking to take any problem of God class, don't take Professor Yeager. There are plenty of Problem of God sections that can give you an interesting take of the subject without the huge reading load that Yeager gives. Most of the reading is Russian literature and her tests require remembering great detail, just not worth it.
The biggest disappointment of my freshman semester. My worst grade despite doing all the reading and attending the class regularly. This class made me hate russian literature and caused me to become jealous of all of my other friends in exciting and interesting Problem of God classes.
Very very hard class. You're grade is more of a reflection of who you are as a person, not how much work you put into the class. As a PoG professor she approaches the subject from a distinct way, and while some may appreciate others may not. It is largely based off European literature, and you dont really discuss God at all in the class.
This class was a nightmare. It was not about the Problem of God so much as Russian despair. This was my hardest class of the semester - even as a pre-med student. Avoid if at all possible, there are so many better and easier options. No reason to go through this level of stress for a gen-ed.
This class focuses entirely on Russian Despair- if you are looking for a class regarding God, then this is not for you. Not an easy A at all either - this was my hardest class despite being a science major. Not worth the time or the despair. Avoid this class at all costs.
Enormous reading load and multiple choice that will give you nightmares. This class was not worth the semester of despair.
Don't take her for Problem of God. There are many other professors who are much easier, much more open, and much more interesting. No need to ruin your GPA on a way-too-hard theology requirement. It was essentially a Russian lit class and I was never sure how to improve on my papers.
Yeager is a great professor. Yes, her class is harder than other PoG classes, but it is also very profound and interesting. If you just want an easy A and don't care about the class, don't take her, but if you're actually interested and willing to read, this class will be very rewarding. Despite the reading, there's only 3 tests and participation.
Terribly harsh grader
This class is definitely not an easy A, but if you are at all interested in theology or expanding your mind and thought process, I highly highly recommend taking this class from an amazing professor
Took this class as a Freshman a few years ago. I'm a Junior now and this class continues to haunt me. Expect 140 pages of dry Russian philosophy/ literature per week--you will be expected to remember it verbatim. Tests still give me nightmares. By far the most difficult class I have ever taken at Georgetown.
Hard grader. Focuses on some bizarre material that is hard to understand. Take if you really like theology but if you don't then i wouldn't take her.
Professor Yeager is incredibly knowledgeable about the topics she teaches and theology in general. She is clearly well versed in the authors she has students read, but this does not mean that these authors are any easier to understand. This class is not easy, but is by no means impossible. Active class participation and interest go a long way.
Professor Yeager's class ins't easy but certainly is worthwhile.
Do not take.
I am currently a senior at Georgetown and took Professors Yeager as a freshman. To this day, her PoG class has been one of the best classes I have ever taken. Yeah, the reviews say it's difficult. It's difficult. But since when has the profound been easy? Wouldn't everything and everyone be profound in that case? Great reading list and discussions
Never Again...
This PoG class is fine if you like philosophy, but if you're not interested in discussions about human desire it's a drag. No papers, just three timed writing "challenges." Do the readings and listen to her interpretations and you'll probably do fine. Part of the final was to try to communicate with a rock on a deeper level. Seriously.
Boring class but she is definitely passionate and knowledgable. Wouldn't take this class again but at least she was a sweet lady who just didn't realize how uninterested the class was throughout the semester. Heavily text-based and just about what you would expect based off of all the other reviews.
boring, most confusing grading system i've ever seen, you don't have to really do the readings so much as sparknote to contribute in class because she explains them enough for you to know them for the writing challenges, it wasnt a great class but it wasnt particularly difficult. she takes attendance
I've gone to Catholic school my entire life and taken a class of some sort every year in theology every year since I was five. Yeager is the worst of the bunch. Dense, long readings for each class, arbitrary and unclear grading on exams (she calls them challenges), and cold calling on students just to embarrass them. DO NOT TAKE.
Professor Yeager is very a very passionate and sweet lady. She made some dense, confusing philosophy easy to digest and made sure the class was collaborative and discussion-based. I enjoyed most of the readings that we did and couldn't recommend her more!
Yeager is a good professor. She assigns interesting, though complex, readings and does a good job of giving a broad overview of different theological schools, and she is good at explaining complex concepts, and is often available outside of class. One thing I will say is make sure you REALLY understand the readings when writing her papers.
Yes, this class is hard, but Yeager is a very kind and understanding teacher who makes it enjoyable. This class really makes you think about your perspective on life and is extremely valuable if you put in the effort. The readings are interesting but be ready to skim the book for exact bits of info for the papers-buy the ebook to make this easier.
