Diane is great teacher and one of the best I ever had at York.
One of York's Best!!!
got sick of her asking right?, right?
Incredibly insightful.
She is one of the best York has to give. who knew MODR could be so easy. when you take her class, you'll feel the same.
very nice...but i'm still convinced she will snap one day. you can't suppress for too long. but as long as it lasts, class isn't bad at all.
Talk about a model prof.If all of them would be like Diane, I would be one happy, educated man.Charming, delightful, interesting, funny, helpful, resourceful, fantastic!Beautiful woman in every way.Take her course, its a treat!
I think that this class is of absolute "uselessness" <-- Hey look i made up a word... just like Diane does in her classes.
By far THE BEST teacher I have ever had! Not only is she intelligent but she's BEAUTIFUL! Diane Zorn is THE GREATEST! #1 in my books. She's very helpful and VERY UNDERSTANDING!!
Wow, Diane is the Best at York. Very helpful and easy generous with marking. If she sees your commitment, you will do great. Very kind and understanding. Do not listen to people, who gave her low ratings, I guess they never showed up in class.
Amazing prof. down to earth and very beautiful. conects with her students, is there for them when they need her. Course is challenging and a new outlook on life.
One of the most compassionate teachers I have ever met. Her teaching styles are amazing and her sense of commitment is incredible. If only all teachers has the same thrill for teaching. The material of the course isn't great but that's not her fault.
Not helpful, and sometimes rude.
best teacher i've had since attending york. was extremely knowledgable about what she was teaching and provided loads of help when needed
this is a internet course so I don't know her personality but I think she is a easy marking prof and the final exam is just a laugh and u can get a passing mark b/c I didn't study for the exam and I still got a B+, b/c I need to see the NBA playoff.
best prof. I hv ever seen. helpful, beautiful and nice. very clear explanation and provide many useful material for you to study. Great,Great and Great!!!!
I found the information that I learned in this course, very useful in my everyday life. However, the course is a bit intensive,in that you have to write a lot of papers - that have multiple steps. Diane is a good professor!
I love Professor Zorn's teaching style. She is very approachable. The content of the course might be a little mind boggling at times but she really goes out of her way to help you understand.
The class can be pretty hard to understand, but Diane really tries to explain it as best as she can, offering any help to other that may be needed.
Good course, but too much info for the timeframe...3 months to do 8 months or work!!
Awesome course if you want to learn how to think for yourself...lots of material, but the prof makes it easier with her teaching style; she's always there to help.
Very detail. Very nice. Tries to please everyone. I like her style of teaching. Teaching everything step by step with examples.
If your not getting an A+ with her, the fault is absolutely with you! She is Extremely clear, Helpfull and Lively in her teachings. Consider yourself very lucky if you end up in her class. 'nuff said
Diane is one of the best profs I've had at york. Her teaching style is accomidating and fluid. She is confident and very effective. Anyone needing a modes credit would be well advised to take her class.
She helps you understand the boring material clearly and in the end you can actually use this in your daily life. Very approachable too. Overall, good teacher but i wouldn't call her a prof.
Knows her stuff! Interesting class.
Very helpful
It would be nice if she would follow through on her committments, i.e. if she says she is going to do something that she actually does it.
This is my first class into university and I couldnt be happier with the experience i've gotten having her as a prof. The course is another story, but she makes a difficult course a lot easier. If you're going to take this course, take it with her !!
She's very nice, eligible answering all questions and responsible professor. Everything is very clear. This is what a professor should be...
Just a superb professor. Take her course; i'm sure you'll have a positive experience.
Worst teacher at york.
Excellent teacher and human being. Being a good teacher is important to her. She's young / relates to students and wants them to do well.
Diane is an amazing teacher. She is so incredibly helpul and understanding. She truly takes the time and effort to make sure that everyone understands every concept. She is very approachable and is very knowlegable. She has made this my favourite class.
Professor Zorn is extremely dedicated and very knowledgeable about this course. She has the ability to keep the students' attention for the whole duration of the class, by engaging in interactive activities while at the same time covering all the required
A great professor to kick start the week. Diane makes an otherwise dry lecture interesting with interactive movies and activities. Promotes communication in the class, includes comprehensive notes on assignments given out with helpful hints and is definitely a great help.
Awesome Professor! One of the best at York. Great way to end my last year here, I wish I had her earlier, so I could have taken more of her classes. I wish more professors could be as clear and helpful as she was!
One of the best profs I have ever had. She is extremely helpful and understanding. It is unfortunate that I could not take any other courses with her and that there are so few professors like her.
Best class in SSB! She's an awesome proff who enjoys teaching her students and helping them develop their skills. Lectures are not too bad, and the assignments are really straightforward. She’s very helpful, and she marks reasonably easy compared to other proffs.
She is fair. You do have to do work and try your best. I liked her cause she seemed like a hippie; dedicated and spirtied person. Wow, and she is hot! :)
She is very clear and her advice is very helpful. She was right, I'm still using the knowledge from her class today. Plus, even as a female, I think shes pretty.
She is the nicest, most caring profs you will ever come across at York. She is so devoted to helping her students and making sure they do well!!
The class is easy but a lot of work. For the second half of the class work, it's easier if you work with someone because it requires a lot of brainstorming. Overall, the course is quite interesting. It's not hard at all!! Prof Z is also very helpful and very nice. She's an excellent prof!
She is really easy marker. If you do your work then you can get a better mark. She is really a nice teacher.
Great teacher, but the class was ALOT OF WORK.
use to be a better professor
Ethics of Admin. She posted EVERYTHING LATE. She was MIA for most of the time. Never answered questions. Students left wondering how to complete assignments or even if they would ever be posted. TA was unhelpful as well, had to forward questions to her which were NEVER answered! DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING WITH HER EVER!!!
Hard marker and expects people to understand this type of class at her level of knowledge. Took her class online and I Do not recommend this class to anyone!
I personally felt that she is extremely understanding and a reasonable person. I would suggest this professor to anyone who has an intelligence level higher than a gnat. For those people who have found a problem with her, perhaps stand outside the box and evaluate yourself.
I thought the class was well thought up however computer glitches caused problems in the online environment. On the tape lectures, I found her a bit hard to understand but went in for help in person and she went over EVERYTHING with me. She really prepped me for the exam. She's very understanding, generous with her time and always willing to help.
This teacher was the best prof i had at york so far! I took the online course. got an A! was SO easy and shes SO understanding!! tests were SO easy and she goes through exactly what will be on the test and exam! SO GLAD I TOOK THIS COURSE! its an EASY A especially with this prof..TRUST ME!
Excellent professor, she is clear and concise. Her class requires ALOT of work and the assignments are extremely time consuming however, she does give high marks. There is alot of homework but she awards perfect marks and they make the assignments much more manageable. Approachable and understanding professor, I would recommend her! 5 stars!
awesome prof, i took the course online, she responded to questions within a couple hours usually. very easy on marking and pushed the due dates on all major assignments at least a week
She is a very nice person and tries really hard in class. I think she is overwhelmed with courses so she is really busy marking those classes. She leaves everything for the last week so watch out!!! Easy marker.
She is a good prof but requires sudents to do a lot of work. She promotes class disscussions and expects students to give typical business presentations. I found that her marking criteria is fully dominated by the bell curve restrictions imposed by york. Many of us felt that we were not fairly rewarded.
she is very encouraging and helpful. she has her own way of teaching. no wonder she got an award for teaching style.
She wastes an incredible amount of time by repeating everything 3 times, literally chewing it for you like she's presenting to retards or kindergarten kids. And the subjects she is teaching a totally useless.
AMAZING Prof!!She goes above and beyond to help her students.Great lectures and class disscussions. She reorganized the course for the better! You actually learn in her class because of all her coaching and mentoring. Thanks Diane for a wonderful class!
I tried getting help because I was sick, (I really was sick), and she declined. She's very by the book, does not use imagination neither does she put herself in students' shoes.
This professor is like a robot. No discretion or flexibility. Even if you were to enrol into her class past the first day of class, due to circumstances beyond your control e.g. awaiting visa for international students, she will still not give you an opportunity to make up. In terms of actual teaching: all she does is follow a text book.
WORST PROF. BY A MILE...A LONG MILE..VERY VERY VERY LONG MILE....STAY AWAY FROM HER
She is extremely helpful and a very nice person, always ready to help and lectures are interesting. Dunno what others mean but she is one of the best at York
She is the BEST prof. I ever had at York in 3 years. I wish that she taught stats1,stats2, Finance, and Accounting courses. I will get B+ grade and over, not because the course is easy, but because she takes interest and her teaching style is UNIQUE. She is very CLEAR, to the point, she gives more than clear instructions!SHEISAMAZINGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is a great prof, she will continue to explain until you understand. She encourage discussion to better understand the concepts and her exams are fair as long as you study the text well.
Wonderful professor with a genuine passion for the material and the real-world implications of ethics. Very understanding, and will be remembered as one of the most warm and kind professors I've ever had. Very knowledgeable and a strong lecturer.
How did this woman win a teaching award? She changes assignments, marking schemes, due dates as the course goes by. No wonder why she failed to earn her PHD. It is a high school class wtih homework every week. This class is an experiment where the students are lab rats exposed to various learning strategies which fail in the end. Drop out rate= 40%
I, too, am surprised that she has won teaching awards. She might be "nice" but she's a horrible teacher. Immense workload and zero guidance. For example, we have an assignment worth 25% due next week and she hasn't answered e-mails for the past 10 days. She doesn't realize she's teaching a first year course.
Don't underestimate this course just because its for first year students. It is very difficult and there is a definite lack of guidance and organization. She does try to help by providing extensions and bell curving marks, but there is so much she can do. Judging by the forum posts, most students seem lost. A very stressful experience, indeed.
Unclear agenda - constant changes - difficult to keep track of what is going on. Feedback - always stated that it would be forthcoming in emails and on the webinar but in reality doesn't happen or it takes too long to make any difference to the next assignment No contact for a week at a time - no email - no phone - no response at all - e
I should have just dropped this course earlier in the year. She had such good comments so I am not sure if she is just a victim of identity theft. There is very heavy workload and no guidance. Sent an e-mail 2 weeks ago and no reply still. Gives extensions at the last minute.. bell curves marks because the whole class is doing horribly. BEWARE!!
She is all over the place, no consistency with her. Makes a lot of promises but doesn't follow through. Is unrealistic about course load.
awful
the workload is so insane that even SHE can't keep up. 2 25 page assignments! we had to start working on the second one before we got feedback for the first. the TA was somehow even more useless. no guidance at all. in the end she ended up giving the class a full mark on one of the major assignments. yeah, sure, wonderful but not worth the stress
as a 3rd yr student i know that summer courses are either easy or super intense. when they are intense it is justified, but in this course that is not so. course work and the worth is not proportional (10 page assignment worth 4% of final mark). lectures are boring and the music she plays in the beginning sucks. never sticks to the schedule either.
She seems nice but she is not much of a teacher. I took the class with her based on the ratings here. I now realize that the high ratings were for ADMS courses NOT MODR. The workload is a bit much but manageable if one prioritizes. Too many technical glitches, and errors on her part don't help. Still, only halfway through. I hope it gets better.
I took her class from 2009-2010 and did miserably. That was the year Diane made some changes to the course, changes that affected students adversely. I am now retaking the course in the summer. The organization is better and work is graded in time. Workload is still tough but manageable. Diane is helpful, understanding, and approachable.
TOO MUCH WORK....a lot of readings, home work takes forever, hard marker, and her expectations are difficult to meet. i dunno what this person below me is talking about, diane is not helpful. her teaching style is to learn from failures instead of avoiding failure in the first place. if i took this course again ill do better too.
Yes, it is a lot of work but her guidance makes it easier. How can anyone refute her compassion? She wants success for her students and will do what it takes to help, like taking an hour to explain course material on the phone.
Very knowledgeable on ethics and does her very best to ensure her students understand the material. She provides sources and great class discussions. She's also incredibly sweet and compassionate. Requires quite a bit for exams, sometimes lengthy, in-depth material. But overall, she's great!
fun fact: her last name is of german origin and means 'wrath'. need i say more?
In class you think she's spoon feeding you because her exam is open book, but the class average was so low she had to take off questions so the average would be a pass. Thought this course would be about debates and controversial topics, but it's NOTHING about that. she posts all her notes online though.
has terrible t.a. staff . don't have to go to class because everything is posted online. tries her best to help but it makes things so much more confusing. assignments are much more complicated than they need to be. hard midterm despite it being open book as she had to curve the marks. wouldn't take it again
If you're looking for an easy mark, lots of guidance, easy assignments, clear and concise notes, along with productive lectures and tutorials, then... DONT TAKE THIS COURSE.
This professor should not be teaching. If York looked at this website, they'd know to get rid of her. Class is convinced she makes the course up as she goes. If you read this website and still take her course, the torture you endure is your own fault. She, and the course she makes up-need to be stopped. Course load is beyond crazy.
Worst professor I've experienced at York.
Diane Zorn is an excellent professor. She communicates very clearly, she is empathetic, helpful, optimistic, and just a well rounded professor. The course was also really interesting and useful!
Diane Zorn is so amazing! She's really intelligent and empathetic and just an overall great professor. I would take her class again!!
Thanks to this course I'm really pro at reading, writing, and understanding. It is hard if your English is not strong because it is essentially about the hidden meanings of words. It is a lot of work, but Diane is very easy to talk to about anything and changes rules if needed to make things more fair. Do your homework. You can't wing this course.
The 4 positive comments below sound like they are from the same person and they don't even make sense. This course is about different meanings? What? Anyway, this isn't a review your course site. Diane was horrible. No clear directions, late replies to emails if any at all.. It was a nightmare. She tries to be helpful but isn't.
Its pretty obvious that professors get rated based on the marks they hand out. This professor is amazing and if u decide to take this course with her it will be more worth it than any other course you probably take in this university. If you just go to class and do what she says the course material is quite easy to understand.
This class is confusing. Lots of work and lots of thinking. The prof, however was great. She really understands the material, and she is always willing to help. She is very nice and very helpful.
Can't stress how terrible this class is.It?s been more than 1 month since our final report and so far past the date for marks that the class received "NGR" on the report. Despite students msging her on moodle about final grades, missing credit from previous homework, and pleads to reply, it's been 18 days since she wrote. Who knows how much longer?
This professor is absolutely amazing! Even though the midterm was open book, she's giving everyone a chance to rewrite the test. Best prof I've had in my 2 years at York!
Diane is a great Prof and a fair marker. I did very well in her class and she always kept things interesting and went out of her way to try and make the material interesting for her students. I really enjoyed her class and her teaching as a prof and TA.
I just finished an online course (modr 1760) with Diane, Z. It was just a nightmare! She doesnt care about teaching. She never replies any emails/questions on forums. Most of the students are just confused. We dont get any feedback on our assignments. She keeps making promises but never fulfill them! will never want to take another course with her
This professor is just horrible! She doesnt give any feedback! Students keep posting msgs on moodle... she never replies to any of them! We haven't heard anything from her for the past 3 weeks! :S dont know whats happening! not worth the $$$ we pay for this course! what a waste! York university needs some serious filtering! students should talk up
Finished an online course with this prof. Course list required hundreds of $$ in textbooks and only needed 2 books easily found at any local library. Prof constantly made promises she seldom kept. Queen of double-talk, applies different standards to students that she ignores herself. Just useless and out of touch. AVOID HER!
No offense to the posters prior to me, but saying she made "promises she couldn't fulfill" is saying so because she didn't post our grade sheet (grades are on site anyway). She's a great teacher. Easily the best online course I have ever taken. Do NOT listen to these brats. They need to see what a regular online course is like and then judge.
Prof. Zorn is an amazing professor. She is very helpful and does her best to get everyone to pass. The course itself is a bit difficult and does require a lot of thinking. I thought it was a bit too much for a first year course. However, Prof. Zorn is very student friendly and will help you all the way. 20% of your final mark is basically free!!
Professor Diane Zorn is by far one of the most amazing professors I have ever encountered during my university career. She goes out of her way to ensure understanding among her students. She is very accomodating&has no problem extending deadlines. Easy class if you do the work. Not based on memorizing content. Great Professor!!
Professor Diane was a great professor. I honestly found her lectures very helpful because she taught the course in a simple way of matter. The text book of readings were not necessarily useful because of Professor Diane's lectures were great. I have been in York University for 4 years and this is the greatest course I have been in.
Her teaching method is very good. She goes beyond her way to help us understand lectures and assignments. She puts sample assignments with marks so we can know what to do in order to get good marks. When ever I had a question she answered almost in few hours. If you do your readings, and your assignment you will get good marks. 10/10 and Great Prof
The summer courses seem to be better than the full year. The problem is that the work load is overwhelming not just for the students but for her and the TA as well. This delays responses to inquiries and feedback on assignments which in turn makes students agitated. She tries to help but its usually when the problem has spiralled out of control.
the promises she fails to keep are to do with providing assignment feedback. how are you to do the other assignment without having feedback from the first?? if she accommodates you, its not from the goodness of her own heart but because she knows that its because of her incompetence that you have failed. they need to have more TAs or less work
you only need argument and argumentation book. didn't even use the rest. what i learned in this course will be helpful for years to come but i cant thank diane for it because i taught myself through trial and error. she took her sweet time with grading and replying to questions. fellow students were more helpful. ta was horrible too.
Amazing prof. I have taken 3 online courses so far and this one was the best by far. When ever i had a question about assignment, exam or about any thing else she answered it right away. Her lectures were very clear and easy to understand, she gave 2nd chance to those who did bad on mid term. if you do your readings you will get great marks. 10/10.
she is by far the nicest and best teacher i have ever had in all of my 3 years of university thus far. She cares about her students so much and she provides so much assistance in order for you to succeed. Plus she is very down to earth making it very comfortable to ask questions and participate. i highly recommend taking her as your prof.
She is one of the best pros who really trys to help students and solve all our questions. I did all the homework and assignment. Althought I did not do good on my test and the first assignment, I am still able to end up with an A. I strongly recommend her. She is amazing.
Probably one of the best profs at York. She's easy to talk to and makes the class entertaining. I went into this course not knowing a single thing, but left with a lot of knowledge. I would highly recommend Diane Zorn.
One of the best Prof in York. Easy going, good communication with students, reponsible for the assignments, tests, clear class process and grading details.
Amazing prof!
Diane was extremely available for the 1st half of the course and really set us up to succeed. As the course got heavier she was harder to pin down, but any student who paid attention to her early instructions could figure things out. I highly recommend her; she's a great prof, pushes you to think and thoughtfully answers your questions.
Takes things personally and out of context. A student posted a question on moodle asking for clarification on our final and Diane took it to be a complaint and request for more help. Basically forced the student to tell her she was doing a good job. She loses marks for inconsistency and caring more about herself than the students.
This class was extremely valuable for understanding flaws in logic and analyzing social issues.I only wish I had taken this class my first two years, as I believe the skills I gained would have helped with my other courses.Diane was clear in her teaching, always available, more than accommodating, and quite personable. She's also really interesting.
Work hard in this course and you will do well. She is a great professor!
She really cares about her students and helps them to succeed. All questions are answered and discussions are encouraged. Amazing class if you like thinking and discussions but dont worry you dont HAVE to speak up if you dont want to. Just read a bit and attend the turorials as I found them helpful.
Shes absolutely amazing. A wonder of a prof. Class is actually fun, who would have thought.
Best prof in Canada, has won 4 teaching awards, has 2 doctorates, knows her stuff! She is so kind, she made a huge impact on my life and has shaped me into a better man, I am more concerned with social justice. I will remember our class discussions for the rest of my life. We did the "White Privilege Exercise" as a class, had an impact on me.
Best Prof Best Course! This course is about language, if english is not your first, don't take it. Many non-english speaking students attend York and expect grades to be handed to them! Test are open-book. She shows essays from past students who have earned good grades and tells you what she wants. If you fail, drop out of university. pump gas!
BEST PROF EVER. actually cares about her students and wants them to do well. Works really hard for her students and does her best to help everyone. Likes being asked questions, knows what shes talking about!
Zorn is AMAZING! best prof i've had at york. she genuinely cares about her students and she is open to negotiate grades. Definitely take her section, it doesn't get any better
Professor Zorn is the best university prof I have ever had. Her section is extremely challenging, certainly not a bird course, but you will walk away with skills that will help you throughout your uni career/life. I couldn't recommend a better prof.
A very interesting and caring Prof. But highly disorganized and consistently late marking assignments and submitting grades. Finished the course in April without ever receiving back an assignment submitted in January.
Course material isn't that hard , you just really have to take your time to understand it. A lot of assignments and quizzes, there wasn't a final exam. This is a really interesting course , take it with her. I took it online and didn't think it was that bad just a lot of work.
She is great! Very nice, considerate, helpful, clear, easy marker and an expert on the subject! She is not very restricted, often pushed back due dates and made adjustments with the assignments to make students' life easier. She makes this course very heavily loaded because she really wants students to know the material. one of the best at York.
i had this proof.. in my first year at york! learning how important it is to rate your proofs.. i had first start my rating after 3 years with the best prof i had EVER. SHES AMAZING. VERY AMAZING COURSE.. YOU WILL LEARN THINGS YOU USE IN DAILY LIFE.. HELPS SELF-ESTEEM AND SELF DEVELOPMENT. she teaches clearly.. and clarifies tests.exams! easy a+
Really sweet, intelligent professor. (Her research beyond this course is pretty interesting too if you care to venture a look, her work surrounds the impostor phenomenon) The way Diane approaches this course can give students the confidence and critical skills needed for all academic programs. She is very approachable and open, really enjoyed her!
She loves to talk about herself, and it gets annoying imo. And it's hard to figure out what she wants you to do for assignments because the instructions are really vague. She gets harder to contact for questions near the end of the year-even through her phone (text). The class is interesting though and she's nice..most of the time.
DIANE was a great professor very knowledgeable in her field of expertise. Class is very organized... however she gives lots and lots of work which i thought to be unfair and unnecessary. Overall a good course. However i would recommend not taking her online course with if you desire to actually learn. If you just want the grade take it.
In my opinion, a bad prof. She was unorganized, class was really boring. Hard to contact.
I took this course online and did not realize how important the weekly homework actually is. I lost 8 percent for skipping homework assignments and still ended up with a B+. Not an easy course but when you do it online you can do it at your own pace. Pause, rewind, etc is all available and she records her in class lectures. Better online
Awesome prof and interesting course. I find it extremely easy as long as you listen to the lectures and do your work.. but then again I am in 4th year. The work load is perfect. Downsides: slow with marking and she's a bit unorganized but that has benefitted the class so far with us getting free marks and extensions. Easiest class I've ever taken.
Easy course. Mandatory attendance for lec/tut for in class work (every week, free marks). Homework every week takes 10min2do (free marks). Assignments r easy but lengthy. All tests incl exam are open book/open laptop. They say buying all 3 books is a must. Do not buy them. They are not used/you can get by without them np. B without much trying.
Class is easy. Lots of homework and assignments though. Don't need the textbooks. Not a huge fan of the prof.
This prof thinks that she is being clear when she sends emails but she isn't always the clearest out there. Mind you if you take it online, like I did you want more clarity. When you ask her a question, her email response is so rude, meanwhile you've been respectful when emailing her. Honestly, a pain to deal with over the internet.
Avoid if you can. Extends deadlines cause she can't mark everything in time and don't expect good marks.
