she is an ok teacher and its easy to get help from her. she is not extremely strict either.
Easy at the begging, then she gets really confusing. Avoid this teacher if possible.
Took her during the summer, I started out understanding her and got very confused as the class went on. Avoid this prof if your not very good at math classes.
she really knoes how to teach. I learned a lot from her. I got a B+ in the class and i didnt study. Easy tests.

Find a different math class!!! Gross was confusing and unwilling to work with students. If math is not your strong subject, Gross is not the right prof for you.
I think that she does an ok job with the lectures, but you HAVE to go to EVERY class to pass.
She can teach pretty good she just makes too many mistakes on the board.
She is not very clear about the work, i didnt find that the example problems showed up on the tests. Take the practice tests online, the class is easy, and shes really cool about opening the quizzes up if you need her to. Good math class, very easy.
Wonderful teacher, the class itself is hard but she explains the material well. You will pass if you go to class every day and the math lab helped a lot.She was in there the times i would go, she also stays after class to help students who need help, i am weak in math but got an A in the course.
great teacher, though material maybe hard at times, great notes. This is my second time having her. If she knows you are trying she will make every attempt in trying to help you.
great teacher!!! i wish she taught more of the math classes i need to take!
She is very helpful if you make the effort to ask her. Absent minded at times, but overall a very good teacher.
very easy to understand. clear with comments and examples. patient.
She's an Okay prof. She tends to trail off ALOT about her family, what's been going on in her life, yada yada yada... gets annoying at times. but overall the class is very easy when you're a math person... and if you're not... its going to be heck listening to her lectures/life.
she was terrible! i haven't had math in a few years and she prides herself on going faster than the other classes. she also gives partial examples on pretty complicated problems. she is also prone to emotional outburts
Dont take her if you can't teach yourself by the book or have a lot of time to go to the math lab. her attitude is that everyone has failed the class and is taking it for the 2nd or 3rd time so she teachesas if you've seen the material before. and she have a lot of emotional days
very nice.she teaches everything thats going to be on the test. all you have to do is go to class and take notes. the tests are out of the examples she does in class. this class was very easy.
She is the most helpful teacher ever!! She will be willing to always help you in Math Lab. She does go kinda fast.. Lets put it this way.. I failed the pre-req test and still made an A!! : )
she has anger problems
shes is a good teacher when everyone is quiet but once the class gets loud she starts these yell attacks which are really annoying. and when she makes mistakes and someone corrects her, she tries to cover it up by saying oh i knew it was supposed to be this. sure. overall, i think i learned in her class aside from the yelling and anger problems.
made an A in the class. easy. just show up to class and do your homework.
the class is alright if you're okay at math. she isnt a good teacher to ask for help cause she goes crazy if u ask something dumb, she makes u feel stupid, but if u can just work and learn with notes and lectures, this class is fine.
She is always going off on something besides math and talking about her personal life. She gets anooyed if anyone asks a question and constantly makes mistakes.
*DO NOT TAKE* I got a A in College Algebra and thought I had a pretty good understanding - this teacher went way too fast- she transposes numbers and randomly makes numbers negatives- VERY confusing. I spent more time in math lab than in class and STILL couldn't get it. She goes WAY too fast for those who've never seen the material before- got a D
Not a fun teacher. She's weird: she won't yell at you for leaving, sleeping, or for your cell ringing during class, but goes nuts if someone asks a questions or you try to correct her. She goes very fast and is not very thorough, but if you hang on and print out your notes for each class(you'll definitely need 'em) you might be okay.
Absolutely terrible. She spends more time on tangents about her personal life than on explaining material. On the occasions that her notes were incorrect, she could not seem to correct the problem in class. Makes many mistakes and yells when corrected. I had an easier time in precal than in finite, and am certain that it wasn't the material.
Everyone complains about this teacher and I really don't know why. She's not a horrible teacher, she does mess up a lot and claims she's dyslexic but other than that the class was a breeze
Nice teacher to talk to AFTER class. You can ask her any stupid question and she will be glad to answer. A lot of people misunderstand her. She doesn't go that fast because she reviews numerous times, and she is always open for questions at the beggining of class. I don't know if she is the smartest professor, but she's a heck of a teacher. Grd: A
She is so helpful if you take her summer class. She works with you until you understand it.
She's pretty good teacher after class, it wasn't pretty clear to me, but i asked her after class and she explain me very careful. Book is online, http://www.math.uh.edu/~dgross/ i took it in summer, made a 'A-'
Great teacher
She doesn't really explain the work during the class and if you try to ask questions during the lecture she yells at you. The class was easy but she's not a good teacher and not nice at all.
Great teacher.
She's a good teacher, horrible personality though. One on one she's okay. Don't ask a question unless you wanna get yelled at. She yells a lot randomly. But she makes things easy to learn.
SHE IS A REALLY GOOD TEACHER. VERY HELPFULL. I RECOMMEND PEOPLE TAKE HER FOR THIS COURSE. ALWAYS STAYS AFTER CLASS TO HELP OUT WITH WHATEVER IS NEEDED. YES, SHE DOES YELL ALOT RANDOMLY, BUT ITS FUNNY. ALL AND ALL REALLY GOOD
No Comments
I thought she was pretty good. It's not that she yells at students, she just gets really worked up about things. When people asked questions she wouldn't yell at them, she would get angry at the section administrator and get kind of crazy. Other than that pretty good.
As long as you're quiet she wont scream, first off. She's very helpful and pretty much can warn you about everything before the test. She gives poppers every day so beware of that but class time is very helpful for tests/quizzes. You'll do just fine in her Algebra class :)
It is obvious that she is NOT a good teacher for this class. She does yell at students who ask a question, she seems on the edge of a nervous breakdown. I am terrible at math, but I made really good grades b/c we you can use your homework on quizes and course journal on your test. I would recommend her b/c of that. Easy grade.
She has fill in the notes which helps you understand what she is doing. She makes a lot of jokes (some are funny, some are not). She gives out a lot of practice. Good overall.
very easy class overall, just requires you to spend a lot of time in mathlab and studying on your own. she's kind of random and weird but its a good class.
She offers extra credit for each exam prior to the exam, even the final. Lots of homework and quizzes and pop-quizzes but its all worth it in the end. I thought she was very rude with alot of attitude but i just made sure not to ask her any questions and took my easy A.
Great proffessor. Really teaches the material for class. Gives insight on exam questioins. With some extra study, the class should be an A.
pretty easy class. She works out examples in a clear manner but yells when someone asks her a question...she also makes a lot of mistakes writing numbers on the overhead...overall good teacher
i found her to be pretty confusing- i skipped the classes (though this hurt my grade because of the pop quizzes) but found the online lectures to be really helpful- got As on all my tests. When I did email her for help, she was very helpful.
she does seem to get a lil flustered when you ask questions and she does scream at you with this really weird annoying look on her face...but other then that the work load is the usual u noe online quizzes, hw and poppers. and she teaches really fast...i didnt have a problem but 4 sum1 slow it might b an issue
she is grouchy most of the class, dont ask questions! everyone knows this but they just love to annoy everyone else. esp people in the front. overall, this class is fairly easy if you do your online quizzes and reviews as well as go to review sessions.
gross is a good teacher. she welcomes questions but she does freak out when somebody asks a question with a really obvious answer. you have to do the hw and show up to class other wise you loose up to 16 points. do the quizzes, and youll do fine on the tests.
This was the worst math teacher i have ever had. She doesn't like questions...so if you need an answer, go to the math lab. She goes off on her own boring stories and complains about being unprepared. Terrible teacher...avoid if possible
This woman needs to chill. She obviously knows her material, but she is so stressed. This makes answering questions uneasy for her, and she forgets her material and makes mistakes on her lectures. Do not take her if you have a bad foundation in math. Anyway, if you just read the online book/lectures you'll be fine. I got an A+.
Mrs. Gross LOVES math and loves teaching it. She wants her students to do well in her class and is very helpful. Her tests are EASY and you will always know what is on them if you do the quizzes and homework. I would only recommend her to students who are good at picking up math because she does go through lecture a bit fast. Great teacher!
Dont pick her as your math teacher

Don't ask a question or she'll freak out. She always complains about her students and constantly makes mistakes on the notes and during her lectures. Class is extremely easy though.
Im extremly surprised i passed her class. simply bcuz u kno i suck at math and she is a horrible teacher. she doesnt explain nothin. and if you ask her a question she throws a fit. she is insane seriously.. i dont recommend her unless you good at math.. cuz then u only have to go to class for poppers and homework
GREAT TEACHER, VERY, VERY HELPFUL, THE CLASS WAS VERY IMMATURE GIVEN THAT IT WAS MOSTLY FRESHMAN.
She goes slow and makes sure everyone understands before moving on. She is open to questions. There is h.w. due as well as poppers(quiz) in class every week. This makes you keep up. The 4 lowest poppers are dropped. She gives you practice tests online which are almost identical to the actual test which is awesome! She is nice. Good Professor!
This teacher is crazy. If you ask her a question she will fresk out, she complains about people in other classes. I got a really good grade in her class but I'm good at math. I don;t recommend her at all!!!
The material is easy, the tests are just like the practice tests and the homework. The professor is a little spastic, but easy to follow. Class attendance is only mandatory because Prof gives poppers (also provides answers). This class is an easy A if you know your algebra and do homework.
If you do not have a good foundation in this class I DO NOT recommend her. She does try to help but is sometimes hard to understand and does not like to answer questions that she just went over. May come off as rude but doesn't really mean it. If you taking this course please do the Practice test for extra credit it helps out a lot.
Shes best for this class.Teaches it well & covers material on time.Took it last semster w/ Flagg & made D;she was behind a lot & doesn't explain well.An A in Gross class.Gross ppl skills need sum improvmnt;rude/goes off on studnt questions sumtime.Prepares u for exams & quizzes;she does care how students do.She's best for 1314.
Poppers/Homework every class. Not too bad cause she gives the answers to the poppers. The professor herself is a bit annoying. Will be teaching class one second then screaming out random things another. To her, almost all questions are stupid questions and she'll jump on you for it.
She's one of the best math teachers I've had. She's willing to help you if you need help. Her poppers are easy because she gives you the answers to them, so there should be no reason to not pass them. As with any math class, if you don't have the time to practice and do the homeworks and quizzes, then don't take it.
Professor Gross is capable, but slightly lacks social delivery skills. She is quickly irritated by talking in class, so if you're a talker, take someone else. She gets a little screamy, which is entertaining, but it gets old. Tests, homework and quizzes are super easy. Textbook is online.
She's an amazing teacher, I suck at math and if you take the time to go see her at casa, she'll be so helpful. She does get a little screamy but she's been burned my freshmen way to much, but you just have to get over that. She's amazing and I would take her for any math class.
Not bad at teaching, just a little crazy at times--like random outbursts of yelling. its kinda funny
Overall a decent teacher. Be warned, if you ask questions, she can "snap" at you. She doesn't get mad, she just answers your question like you're stupid. Although, I don't think she means to act like this.
I had the most difficut time with math until i took her class. She is simple she takes you step my step and doesnt make you feel stupid for ask questions. The book is online but its not helpful and she post notes of everything she does online. Piece of cake seriously. Her assistant almost does the homework for you and helps out alot with reviews.
She's ok. You must be really good at math in order to understand her, I am so it was super easy. But for people who just don't get it, don't take her. If you have questions, she'll kinda yell at you for not getting it. If you're emotional of teachers yelling at you, don't ask her anything. Ask your classmates. She does give some answers to poppers.
She is rude, goes off on tangents. I send a friend with a popper and homework. Everything including her notes are online. I personally avoid that class like the plague and do it on my own time. If your like me and really can't stand math lectures to begin with, I highly recommend not taking her because she isn't a stellar teacher.
This prof is VERY inconsiderate and not approchable..but with that aside she's alright. .SHe posts her notes online after every class which is VERY helpful.HW is due Every class period and there is a QUIZ in EVERY class, & online quizes are due every week but if you go to class everyday & do your part you will make an A. Just Study!
Had her for an 11:30 class and I met with her for an hour starting at 10 in the math lab. She was extremely helpful during this time and she was happy to do it. In class, she did seem to get a little frustrated when people asked questions. Overall though, I was glad that I took her.
Easy class. Good teacher. Lots to keep up with though. Can be weird sometimes.
lol, this lady is crazy!!! i mean she knows her stuff i'll give her that, but she acts like EVERYONE else should already know it. don't ask any questions in class or talk. don't buy the book it's online and go to class every time for the "pop quizzes" i passed with a B+ and i didn't go to class(if u can't make it to class have someone do ur popper)
There is no way not to do well in her class. I got an A. She does freak out when ppl ask her questions, but she does include every little step in her notes to ensure that the ppls dont get confused. She even gives u the answers for the poppers. Shes easy to understand. I will take her again for other math classes, if she teaches them. Take her!!
Her lecture notes are very well designed to help students out. Study from her notes and do the HW and you'll do fine with on the exams. She timely posts these notes to her website after class. She understands people who have been out of school for a while, so she clarifies many concepts to students. I highly recommend her for any math class.
Se is the best math professor in the world. If you go to class and turn in your homework and poppers and listen to her you will do fine. She posts all the notes for those that are absent and just a great professor. I too her for MATH 1310 and followed her into MATH 1314. Wish she would teach Finite as well
you are better off taking an online math course, this teacher doesn't even have a book to go by. She freaks out sometimes, because of talkers which is understandable, but carries that anger over to anyone who ask her a question after class. As far as teaching goes, not really helpful. She has been teaching that long.
The class she is teaching isn't the easiest of classes but her class average grade is about a b. if you go to class and take good notes you should do a little better than you do in other math classes. an easy b or an earned a.
She is an okay professor, but she doesn't really explain that good because she goes kinda fast. When you ask her a question she doesn't really answer it she just says "the answer is right there on the board." Poppers are easy. I basically had to go back and teach myself using her notes which she posts online. It's still an easy A
Like other reviewers mention, Prof Gross has bad people skills. She often overreacts to simple questions, but I don't think she means to. If you talk to her one-to-one, she's not bad at all. She somewhat teaches fast, so if you need extra time then consider someone else. Best of all, she posts her notes with complete lecture comments from class.
Not a very good prof. for me, might be fine for people good at math, but for most she wont be very good. Doesn't explain the problem, just jumps to the next step in the notes. Don't ask her to explain either as she will yell 60% of the time.
I HAD HER FOR BOTH ALG. AND PRECAL AND SHE WAS VERY EASY. EXPLAINS THINGS SLOWLY SO ITS EASY TO UNDERSTAND. SHE HAS QUITE A TEMPER BUT IT USUALLY DOESNT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT SHE IS TEACHING, SHE DOESNT LIKE TALKING IN HER CLASS. BUT SHE IS REALLY GOOD AT EXPLAINING IT.
She is a very good teacher, but when it comes to asking questions becareful. It seems like she hates questions but she really makes sure everybody knows the material. She also hates when people wait until the last minute to get quizzes and practice test done.
Very dedicated. Wants you to succeed, but also wants you to show effort. Attendance is key to success. She will arrange test review sessions and tutors. She really cares. Show her you care, too.
She is a very nice person but not a very good math teacher. She is very helpful when you need help but don't ask questions in class cuz she very excentric. you can bring copies of the practice test and ask her to work the exact problems after class. Take the class if you are good at math cuz she skips steps and usually writes the wrong thing.
Not a good professor for me, mainly because math is my weakest subject. Things weren't explained very well and lectures were hard to follow. If you suck a math, don't take Dianne Gross.
she is scary up close. class i boring. laughs at her own jokes and makes everyone feel awkward. she skims through the hard stuff and goes into detail of the really easy stuff. tests do not reflect what she taught in class. if you suck at math, take another teacher
I love her. Even when you don't make it to her class its alright because her notes are always online. Not exactly question friendly but she will always help you. She cuts out the bs and gives you the necessary and notes are always simple and in order.
Dr. Gross is the best Algebra and Pre-Cal teacher! She gives tons of examples in her notes, so it's extremely easy to learn the material. Got an A and A- respectively in Algebra and Pre-Cal, and I'm not even a math person! Just read her notes, do the quizzes and practice tests and you'll do just fine.
You can't tell if she is mad or not. If you ask a question she will act like you're an idiot. CASA tutoring is really good though if your having trouble. Homework almost every class 10% of practice test gets added to exam. a quiz every week, she post notes on the website. I didn't learn anything from her but did from the online book on her website
i personally HATE math, but mrs gross made it very easy. she basically dumbs it down as much as possible. i would no doubt take her again. the homework and the quizzes every week for sure help.
awesome professor. made an a! notes are posted online and she explains things pretty clear.
This professor is an okay teacher when it comes to pre cal. I was required to get alot of outside help from the tutors at mathlab, because she hates when students asks her question. She is a little bipolar and needs to seek medical attention. However her class is not that hard but does require lots of studying. I got a B in her class.
Horrible teacher and makes simple math mistakes. She covers up her mistakes by saying how smart we are. Complains about other classes and has BI-POLAR TANTRUMS! Don't ask her anything, she will throw a fit. If you are good at math then this class is simple, if not consider someone that is more comprehensible. The grading is overall fair.
You never know what kind of mood she'll be in, its hilarious. If you go to class and keep up with the assignments you should be okay. Make sure you print the notes before class and take them with you. I made an A but I'm good at math. Its an easy class the professor is great.
She has massive mood swings. There's a constant cycle of explaining problems to venting anger at people who make mistakes. Be prepared to hear lots of stories about she and her family and other things not related to the course. She yells at you for asking questions. So if math isn't your strong point, avoid this professor.
She was good. However, pre-cal is easy for me. Nevertheless her class is helpful. She provides notes online that way if something went to fast for you you can always go back to it.
I USED TO HATE MATH BUT I LIKE HER TEACHING TECHNIQUE. THE REVIEW IS THE SAME FORMAT AS THE EXAM. SO HOW HARD CAN IT GET? MADE AN A! TAKE HER!
LOVE THIS PROF! explains everything clearly, show up to class everyday and pay attention and you'll be fine, has notes online that are very helpful. TAKE THIS PROF!!!!!!!
College Algebra is already easy, but she makes it even easier. Goes over everything you need to know and posts her lectures online so if you're stumped on a homework, you can always check online! Tests are insanely easy, the exact the same as the practice tests you take before the actual test. Her mood swings are hilarious though! Quite the temper!
Mentally something is wrong with her. Don't bother asking a question, she will be RUDE and disrespectful. It may be because shes in those "years". Her tests are easy. Do the review and you should be good.
Great teacher!! She is so helpful and really makes everything easy to understand. She rambles a lot, but the way she teaches her class, if you keep up with all the work, it is impossible to fail her class. She makes an effort to make sure that her students do well.
She is awesome, Knows her stuff and explains things great. Although she is pretty bad about answering questions during, she will make you feel stupid. Other than that the class itself is super easy if you go to class and do all the work. Easy A.
She was great. Made math fun for a person who sucks at math. I got an A by going to class daily, doing the practice problems which are recommended and asking a couple of questions in and after class. Do the homework, practice problems and take the quizes and you will get an A.
Dr. Gross is great professor. If you do all of the homeworks, quizzes, and practice tests the class will be an easy A. She gives great examples and always finishes class early.
Dr. Gross is a very good teacher, she has her notes already done, you just have to go online and print them and follow her as she does the examples. She is loud and very easy to understand. She does have the tendency to make you feel stupid if you ask her a question. I'd ask her after class for help. You need to go to class every day!
She is a really good teacher even though the class isn't very hard to begin with. She is kind of rude when you ask questions. If you show up every day and do the poppers, do all the homework assignments, and take the practice tests you will get an A. The reviews for the tests are really helpful.
The notes that have to printed out are very useful when doing the quizzes and the practice tests and are good to use when studying. She is very understandable and helpful. You can ask her questions after class and she will teach it to you until you understand it.
The notes that are to be printed out are very useful for the quizzes and the practice tests. They are also very useful to use when studying for the tests. You can ask her questions after class and she will explain it to you until you understand it.
FAVORITE professor! she knows what she's talking about, just do what she requires and you'll make an A, took her for Algebra and made an A, now i'm taking finite with her and have a 100 on all my assignments so far. she teaches you everything you need to know. take this professor!!!!!!!!
I just wanna cry every time I come in here. I feel like I can't ask questions about anything cause she'll give me a sarcastic remark. Yeah, she has all her notes and stuff prepared, but she's not someone I'm comfortable with asking for help.
She's funny, and keeps her lectures interesting while really breaking down the subjects so that you really understand them and learn them. Amazing teacher. Take her whenever possible!
She is an amazing professor! Yes she can be sarcastic and get on you if you ask a question during class but if you go talk to her after, she is more than willing to help you with anything. I have taken her for College Algebra, PreCal, &Finite and I have passed her classes with flying colors. Just do the notes, take the quizzes, pr. test and hwk.
She is very straight forward with the material. Make sure to print out blank class notes. do homework and quizez, she basically gives you the answers for poppers its her way of doing attendance.Tests are really easy, she gives good reviews. Do not ask questions in class, she'll make u feel stupid, shes nicer after class!
Easy class, she is kinda crazy though, she likes to complain about other students and her life problems, but she does a pretty good job teaching. beware if you ask a redundant question she will insult you.
Easy A. The easiest class that I have ever taken. If you are good at math, I extremely recommend it because you don't even have to show up to class. She posts up the notes online. Although It is a part of your grade to be at class, you will still be able to pass if you don't show up.
Very helpful. Posts blank notes online if you want to write along with her and also posts her worked out notes in case you don't. Daily poppers but she gives you all the answers so no worries. Kinda crazy and blows up on us randomly....but it's pretty entertaining...EASY A
First off, Her name is misspelled. She is a alright teacher. If you don't know the Math or just not good at it, she might be hard because it is just hard to understand her if you don't know whats going on. If u r familiar with the Math or in general math, then she would be an easy A for you, aslong as you do your work obviously.lots of extra cedit.
She is a pretty bad teacher and she is extremely sarcastic when she answers questions. She was very moody everyday and hated teaching and mentions millions of times about when she took this class. She was apparently an all-star student so beware!
My worst classroom experience in University thus far. Professor Gross gave us all the tools to succeed but in a manner very unlike that you would expect from a growing school. Her hostility towards those seeking help during class was disheartening to those of us that did not understand certain concepts. Highly recommend avoiding this professor.
good teacher, but can be mean when asked questions. Do poppers and come to class everyday and do HW, you'll get at least a B! Will be exempt from Final if you get the average of B or A in CASA!
She is a very good instructor, i agree, don't ask questions during class because she answers kinda rude, yet after class she is helpful, and as long as you print blank notes, take poppers, and do the majority of homework you will recieve an A, I will definately take another of D. Gross' classes.
great class! I learned a lot. Lots of HW and examples. I aced the final and it was because she gives you everything you need to study in advance. Just don't fall behind with lectures, quizzes, and HW each week. I took the online version.
Really easy class, make sure you do your poppers, homework and practice tests and you should make an A without any problem. Also do the practice tests until you know the material fully if you want to make sure you get an A
Took this class in Summer and the pace was perfect. Not too fast not too slow. Excellent teacher. She made me feel confident in math, which was surprising since I've never been good at math. The tests and quizzes were exactly what was taught in class.
Do not take her online, she's not very thorough in explaining things, and there's no extra credit. She sounds like a better teacher in person.
Took this class online (pre-cal) and it was great! She records each lecture so you are able to go back anytime to listen to her explain the material. She goes over homework problems before or after class before its even due. She's a great teacher but she does get short with you if you ask a question that's already been answered. Even then she is always quick to try to laugh it off and say she doesn't mind the question....but she will go off on you briefly. Lol I wish I could take her for cal 1.
Very Very good teacher, she is ver clear. Make sure you are on time and let her know if you have to leave early or she will give the whole class a speech about how rude it is to leave while she is still talking. Assignes lots of homework but it's very helpful.
Easy class. I did it on campus. Just do good on the HW, Poppers, and quizzes. And you're pretty much set for the class. For the Tests, do the practice tests; its the extra credit and its possible for you to make a 110 on the test. Other than that, that's pretty much at there is to it.
Took her for both MATH 1313 and 1314. Definitely the best math teacher at UH. Her notes are clear and she explains them very well.I know she gets angry really easily, but that's how I stayed awake in the class.Attendance is popper grade. To get an A, you need do well on the prac tests, those reflect your test grades, keep up with the quizzes and hw.
Good teacher sometimes moody but overall good class is easy just do hw and quizzes and poppers and study notes for test and you'll do fine
She is hard to understand sometimes during class, but very very helpful always willing to stay after class to help on any particular problems. Just don't ask her stupid questions during class because she will blow up on you in front of the class. Make sure to do the online quizes and practice tests at home, keep on trying till you get a 100.
She is moody, and does kind of go off on students if they ask a question in class. But, I found her to be very clear, and her tests were easy.
Do not take this class unless you like being lost the whole time. Make sure to never ask any questions before during or after class she is mean. If you want a cynical, mean, and horrible teacher than take her class.
She is a good teacher but gets mad very easily. Go to class every day because there are poppers daily. And if you are confused in lass, don't ask any questions. She will yell at you for no already knowing the answer. Just don't talk in that class.
In high school, precal was what killed my GPA. But Dr. Gross was extremely helpful. If you are a sensitive soul, dont take her. Listen and don't ask questions that she already answered or something you should have known. Most of the time she gets frustrated bc people don't know the basic principles she had taught and quizzed you over 2 lessons ago
Crazy lady and funny lady, easy class. Going to class, actually paying attention and copying down the notes and examples is basically all that is needed to do the HW, quizes, and Tests.
Such a great teacher! She is hard but is determined to help any student out. If you go to her tutoring sessions she is calm and really helps you out. I have never been good and math and managed to oull out a B! She works with you and makes sure you are ready for the test or quiz! Even does the homework with you. All you have to do is go to class!:)
If you are easily offended, do not ask questions because she tends to go off on those who do. Otherwise, she's a good professor who does her job right. Took finite math with her and it was a very easy class.
she pretty cool teacher, just dont ask no question or you will get yell at, but its funny tho. Do the quizzes,hw,and practice test so you can have a descent grade...take her
Professor Gross is an interesting professor. If math comes easy to you, you should take her class. I had been out of math for 7 years and finished with a 104 avg. If you are one that likes to ask questions and doesnt like getting yelled at, take another professor. I thought she was fantastic though, cant wait for 1330
She is incredibly rude. Do not ask her questions during class, because she will go off on you and make you feel like an idiot. I am in her class right now, but the more time I spend in her course the more fed up I get with her terrible attitude. I would not recommend this professor. Try to get someone else.
WORST TEACHER. Her notes aren't helpful at all. And don't ask her a question or she will flip out and then make you feel stupid. If you aren't the best at math, I would avoid her.
Shrewd woman, don't bother asking questions she'll rant and scold you. the only reason you have to go to class is really for the poppers, she rambles and rants through the notes so it's best to look at them online and go to CASA or LSS (lss is better) if you're running late or get sick make sure you come at least 20 mins b4 class is out: POPPER!!!
Currently taking this course and its not so bad. Attending her lectures, doing & homework/quizzes has really prepared me for exams. I know some people might get offended but I dont think its her intention to make you feel bad if you ask something. She might seem a little frustrated at times but she just wants everyone to do good. Good professor IMO
I have had Professor Gross for 1310 and 1330. She can be aggressive at times, but she is ONE OF THE FEW PROFESSORS at UofH THAT TEACHES!!! I hate math and it equally hates me back, but I was able to succeed under the direction of Professor Gross.
You can learn everything from the online resources, but you have to go to class to do "poppers". She puts all the notes online. She is EXTREMELY MOODY. She seemed to have yelled at everyone the entire semester at least once every class period.
Mrs. Gross is a wonderful professor. She knows what she is teaching and does a great job of it. She gives 4 tests which are all relatively easy, and a chance at 10 points extra credit on each test. If you have a B at the end of the class you are exempt from the final. You have poppers which she does with you in class and homework is easy.
The class itself is not really difficult, but she is a terrible teacher. She is rude and you cannot ask her questions or she gets super angry if you do. She gets side tracked about random stuff. I would recommend Mr. Sosa. He explains things well, unlike her she just copies her answers to the board and doesn't really explain things. Avoid her!
Took her for finite math online. Everything's okay. The test is multiple choice and written, sucks I know. Overall decent. I never went to class because I had work during the scheduled lectures, but I review them if I need help. Pretty standard.
Easy class, 90% of the math is done by a program that you NEED for this class, very simple to use. Most of the class is done through CASA, like all lower level math classes at UH. You have poppers everyday, lecture notes posted online. She knows her stuff, but she's very rude and dramatic. Try looking at online notes to learn the material.
You should attend all classes to get the popper grade(which she solves for you) do your hw, DO YOUR ONLINE QUIZZES and revise a day or two before the test. She has her own website, which has all the hw, the notes form the class. The book also has video lectures. So you should easily get an A. She'll try to scare you in the beginning if the semester
The course is fairly straight forward and would highly recommend this course especially if you have never done an online course before (good experience). If you are not a math person, then that explains the negative reviews, but overall, this professor cares for her students and does give some extra credit for the tests and poppers.
I like the way she broke down the problems and made it easy to solve. Not many Math professors do that. She was patient enough, just don't keep asking the same questions. Provided solutions for homework and tons of extra credits for exams. The workload was quite a lot with homework and quizzes everyweek. Attend class or review videos would help you
Math is one of my favorite subjects so I thought this class was easy. But DON'T freak out if you hate math because Professor Gross is a great teacher and really helps you understand the material. She gives a lot of chances to get extra credit with the poppers and the practice tests. She wants everyone to succeed! I highly recommend her!
4 Exams plus the final. You can get exempted from the class as long as you have a 80 or above. If you get a 100 on the practice test you get extra point on that exam. This class is super easy if you attend class everyday and do your homework and quizzes.
Dr. Gross teaches math as if her students should already know whats going on. I am currently in her online 1313 class & it is pretty difficult with her teaching style. She yells at you if you ask questions. Very confusing and annoying. If you are not a math wiz, I DO NOT recommend her. I basically teach myself.
The class in general is quite easy, esp to get an A (provided you do all the assignments.) Typical math class, except there's a cumulative final that you can't opt out of since it's a survey course. If you suck at math, and need someone to really teach you.. don't take this class. She has a temper issues. Go to CASA, get a tutor, or take w/friend.
STAY AWAY! I REPEAT STAY AWAY. I LEFT EVERY LECTURE CONFUSED AND SPENT HOURS TEACHING MYSELF THE MATERIAL
I dont like math but I did pretty well in this class. Prof. Gross only taught half the semester and then had a fam emergency and we got another professor. Leaving class I was a bit confused but honestly do the quizzes and hw online and youll be fine. And if you do the practice tests and paper tests she posts up, the tests are EXACTLY like them.
I get easily bored during lectures,so,taking this class online let me comfortably study at my own pace. Gross can be a little edgy at times, but she means well, and apologizes when she is over the top. Overall a straight-forward easy class if you watch her recorded lectures, and do practice tests. Very easy to get an A even though I don't love math
Terrible just terrible. Do Not recommend
Dread listening to her lectures rants on and on about random things eg students attitude/questions advanced calculus classes she should stay on track focus more on the material a lot of questions not properly taught she just writes the answers very technical way of teaching not much application and problem solving being taught
Please do not take her only if you are a natural at math she does not go through valid information especially with quiz type questions the stuff she goes through in class are surface type of questions DIFFERENT than on quizzes n tests she may she tell u about some questions tt may be on test but dont brainstorm them not an efficient professor
She can be tough however she is really nice if you need help. If you have a difficult situation she will help you out if needed. I failed practically all her exams, did horrible on the homework but passed with a C because I talked to her.
She is tough to sit through sometimes because she goes on rants and complains about students a lot but all in all i think she is a very good teacher. She can come off as rude a lot because she tends to answer questions like youre an idiot but when you talk to her on the side she is actually the sweetest person so dont judge by her in class behavior
What I love about 1314 is it's very clear and somewhat easy to get an A. She can be kinda snippy but most people find it funny. I took a prep level precal class senior year of high school and did not find the content in this class to be challenging to understand, as long as you keep up with it! It does move pretty quickly. Plenty of resources onlin
Some people may find her snippy but its just her being her and I find it pretty funny. She doesnt mean anything malevolent by it and she really cares about each of her students. You can tell she loves to teach. Her notes are impeccable. She covers material thoroughly and provides examples. Gives you plenty of practice in homework and "poppers" .
Extremely condescending and her schedule isn't accurate to what she wants you to do. Be ready to do quizzes three weeks early. Also, she yells at students that ask questions in her online class and constantly brings up her personal issues. Very unprofessional I'd never take her again.
A majority of her lectures are her complaining about the finite class, past students, or the poppers. Essentially this isn't a class about calculus but rather the program we use to do the calculus for us. She is a terrible teacher and doesn't explain examples. The only reason why I'm doing fine is this class is because I've taken calculus before.
The material is very straight-forward and simple. Go to class for the poppers. Homeworks, quizzes, tests, and you can be exempt from the final if your grade average is 80+.
Very good class to take for Business majors needing to take CALC. I would say this class is more of an intro to a program called Geogebra, but it is beyond helpful and can be used in the future. She is snappy when you ask questions, but don't take it personally at all. She gives poppers but they are done as a class, solely for attendance. Easy A.
Class isn't too difficult. She explains material well, and writes out the steps. She talks a lot, but she's a good professor.
Dr. Gross is recommended if you do your part as a student. This includes reading course policies and taking the quiz, conducting weekly poppers, quizes and HW. If you fail to do your part, expect a bad outcome. I am physically disabled and I am grateful to Dr. Gross for her help this semester. I truly learned Finite Math!
If it's been awhile since your last math class! DO NOT TAKE. You go through the sections so fast I never could keep up and actually learn. I found myself trying to teach myself on YouTube. In one week you have 1 quiz 2 poppers and homework due. Every other week you add a short answer homework assignment as well. i wouldn't take her online again.
Easy A if you watch her lectures. I took her online and made an A. Just make sure you get a 100 on all quizzes and try on the homework.
I took MATH 1313 online with professor Gross. I really enjoyed the structure of the class. She lectured twice a week live online and recorded them, so if you were unable to attend you could watch the after. Also it gave me the ability to re watch if I was struggling with any area- if you do what she says you will pass- prepares you well for tests.
She is a really good teacher. She is great at showing you how to work the math problems so anyone can understand. Whatever you don't understand, casa tutors are really good at helping you. When you ask her a question, it seems like she's being rude, but thats just how she talks, she very outgoing with high energy. If you go to class you will pass.
I think people get over sensitive and misread her personality in these reviews. She's very nice and she treats you like an adult, encourages questions and has a sense of humor. Sounds like some of the reviewers still need coddling from high school. She expects you to do the work and be an adult, if you do you'll pass. Textbook is awful go to class.
TAKE HER FOR BUSINESS CALC! The class average was a 94! All you need to know is have a reliable computer, don't take her sarcasm and mood too seriously, and DON'T miss class (poppers). Enjoy :)
It's just like any other math class, you must study and practice the material otherwise this class will suck! She can be very nice and other times very standoffish. She gives tons of extra credit so you can make up for making a bad grade or two. The tests are just like the reviews she does. All-in-all, a good professor in my opinion.
Business majors please take her business calculus class. Daily poppers, but she gives you the answers. 10% of your highest score on the practice tests get added to your test grade. 3 tests and a final you can exempt from if you have at least a B. 10% of poppers dropped, 4 lowest hws dropped, up to 20 tries on quizzes. I ended up with over a 100!
Go to class. I made the mistake of neglecting this class and skipping some poppers. I could have gotten an A in this class if I cared more. I realized halfway into the semester that I could just show up an hour into class just in time for the popper. I never really stayed for a whole class because the textbook and her notes where sufficient enough.
Save your 1500 bucks. This professor is not the best at teaching the subject matter. I had algebra and calculus professors at the Jr. College level that were far better at a fraction of the cost. This class will not prepare you for Stats! If you take this class with her just be prepared to teach yourself, and struggle with Stats...
Overall easy class, basically learned how to using a graphing calculator. Shes nice one-on-one after class, but when teaching she's a *itch to everyone, yelling at people who talk and making people who ask question feel stupid. If you take this class, don't worry, everyone forms study groups and poppers aren't an issue. I missed a test and got an A
she is horrible. yells at students who asks questions and focuses on talking about her life and stating how hard things are rather than trying to teach the material. she mentions other classes like 20 times in class. just save yourself time. take moises sosa if hes offering the class you want to take.
The worst teacher ever! She is so condescending and rude! She believes that you should know & remember everything from algebra. If you dont good luck ! She wont help! She will say you should already know this. She skips a ton of steps so you will need to teach yourself. I suggest Youtube or better yet don't take this class. Better yet RUN!!!
Very rude and talks down to you in class if you ask a question that SHE feels is stupid. Class is very easy. do the homework and get the best grade you can on your practice exams because she adds up to 10 extra points on you mid terms.
Reading some of the reviews really surprises me. Yes, her tone sounds standoffish and rude but she does not mean it. I did not take her face to face, but online with the live lectures and she is extremely helpful. If you feel like shes being rude youre being too sensitive. I worked hard for my grade but she was a great prof.
honestly I didnt think she was a bad teacher but she could be more precise when teaching like showing us how she got the answer to a problem, instead she just expects us to already know the answer & when u ask her questions, she gets snappy & come off sarcastically rude but I know she doesnt really mean it, she does care about her students passing
She goes fast, doesn't provide sufficient examples that would help us prepare for Quizzes. She is confusing, and most of the times i would have to lecture myself or go to a tutor. She gets off track and talks about her life etc. Doesn't not go step by step on some subjects.
If you can, definitely try to find another professor (at least if you're taking Pre-cal). Gross is rude and talks more about her son than any student cares to listen to. Don't expect any sort of clarification without a sarcasticharsh (and rather vague) response.
2303 is a relatively easy class, it's a class for teachers, she's very precise and goes over every little detail when solving problems, very thorough. She can ramble a bit, but overall, she's a sweetheart.
The online class is a lot of work; HW assignments, quizzes, poppers, practice tests, and tests, but it is not hard. As long as you attend the online lectures or watch the videos later, you will do well. I suggest attending the online lecture time, because Professor Gross does a problem session after class where she will help you with any HW Qs!
By any means not a completely horrible professor, but by far needs so much work. My biggest complaint is her only showing basic examples of mathematical concepts then her quizzes and tests have these complex forms that show up nowhere in the notes or book. You're going to have to teach yourself in this class and attendance is mandatory for poppers.
Just like any other math course in U of H except Professor Gross is always at her office hours and willing to help.
She would ramble on about "I have 4 other classes and a ton of students" at least once a week. She might have 4 classes, but she teaches the same thing from year to year usually and CASA grades everything for her. I don' really see a reason for her to complain when she is not even the person grading the 200+ students she says she has.
The material for Precal is easy, but Gross is insanely irritating to listen to while lecturing. She talks about her personal life too much and is condescending to students who ask questions. If you have a decent understanding of Algebra you'll do fine but I would not recommend taking Gross. It was just a boring and tedious class to attend.
Yelled at me in class for asking a question then said it was a good question. VERY easy class but she was very high-strung. I liked her, but it was hard to ask a question with the fear of her yelling. I ended up learning all the stuff a few hours before my test at CASA and made above a 100 on each test. Go sleep in class to get credit for poppers.
She's not one of the greatest teachers, but she is really nice and understanding. If you do the homework, quizzes, and attend class you should be fine. I hate math with a passion, but I managed to make a 96 in her class. The Math Department is great at UH. If you ever have issues, go talk to her at CASA and she'll help you.
I took her for both 1313&1314. She is a tough lady, but the classes are easy. Make sure you know when all quizzeshomeworks are due. Her notes explain everything; she puts them up online after she gives the lectures. You have a popper at the end of each class. She hates people emailing her with "dumb" questions, so ask others before going to her.
She spends more than half the class time just talking about her personal life and lecturing us about life. She sounds very annoying and whiny and so classes seem long and torturous. But the class itself is easy and if you take notes then it's an Easy A. Just be sure to do all the homework and copy all the stuff she writes on the board.
Incredibly rude. She will call out students for no legitimate reasons. She is also very demeaning to students.
Although she had a short temper she is a great professor. You will get 2 homework assignments a week with 10 questions each and a weekly quiz. If you do the practice test you get extra credit in your test.
She's talks a lot about her personal life and other irrelevant things. She can be very rude and isn't very helpful through email. However, her class is really easy and you can print the notes out online after it so you really only have to go to class for the popper points.
She is a great professor, and makes sure we understand all the concepts. She tells us what to expect on the tests and solves any problems we might have trouble with. She can come off rude and you have to get used to her voice, but 2-3 lectures is all it takes. I would recommend her! Like any other Uh math class weekly hmwks and quizzes and 4 exams
This was the easiest class I've ever taken. Professor Gross is efficient and usually ends class thirty minutes ahead of time. Although she does speak a lot about her personal life, she does her job well. Pay attention--she doesn't like to be asked very many questions because she finds most to be unnecessary. I would take her again.
Easy A. She breaks down everything and posts her notes online afterwards. Very clear with material, just talks a lot about unnecessary things (personal life) sometimes. Didn't need the online textbook since she went over everything herself. Gives popper answers. Would recommend.
She is an amazing professor who made me not hate math like I did. Really good at explaining the material and goes over the popper together during class. People think she is rude but she only does that if you are being disrespectful. Do not talk while she is lecturing that is her biggest pet peeve. DO the work to be able to opt out the final. EASY A
There is no point of even rating this class, because it was so easy. Just keep up with the homework, quizzes, and poppers. Many people were getting B's because they were not keeping up with the assignments but they were acing the tests. The tests are like the practice tests and previous quizzes. Easy A.
Show up to class, but don't ask questions or talk unless you want to get yelled at for the entire semester. Poppers questions every class for a grade, she gives you the answers. Homework twice a week and a quiz once a week. Hated her lectures, wouldn't have shown up if not for poppers. Notes posted online and everything is done with a calculator.
Professor Gross is great professor who wants her students to learn and pass but the class in not an "easy A" if you don't do the work.
She is by far the worst Professor I have ever gotten! I don't know where these people are getting shes great teacher from. I'm in her class now and she never shows you how to do anything. Her philosophy is that she will write a problem on the board and its YOUR job to go out and find how she did it. Shes insanely rude and is not understanding.
Professor Gross is so helpful! She is not here to fail you, there is a lot of work in the class, but that's how the class is structured. However, she will make her own reviews besides your regular review and will not mind working out any problem for you during her session hours. Very approachable during office hours, I would definitely take again!
Very funny! Super thorough explanation of problems. Need to do her work though. Quizzes and practice tests are IMPORTANT so if you don't do them then don't expect a good grade by the end of the semester. Show up to class because lessons and announcements are a must.
Took the online class, and I couldn't stand more than the first few lectures. She didn't make the material any easier to learn; I managed to do just fine by religiously going through the textbook and actually using the practice tests and homework. If you put in the work, and check the poppers on the website, you will pass her class.
Teacher told us not to email her anymore at the beginning of the semester. She just said check the website for anything. If you did email her, she was rude and very short. Practice exams on CASA are EXTREMELY long. Final Practice exam was 50 questions. TONS of homework and poppers.
She si a great teacher, but sometimes she gets mad when explaining the content for a second time to an student.
I took her online, and just sit through the lectures. They're long, but helpful. Don't email unless it's absolutely necessary, cause she will be rude. That said, I'm not smart in math and passed with an A-. Just find a partner to study/compare HW/practice test answer with and you'll be fine. If there is a problem with FR, she will fix it.
I could not focus during her lectures. She's kind of long-winded about how many classes and students she had and could be rude and sarcastic when answering questions she felt we should know. The format of this class was little difficult for me because she posts assignments weekly rather than at the start of classes Textbook is not that great either
I broke my leg playing in a rugby game for UH during the fall semester of last year and was hospitalized for 4 weeks and it happened to be at the end of the semester. So I was not able to take the last 2 tests and the final. I then emailed her to let her know and see if she can help me out by giving me an incomplete or something and she refused smh
Did not like her. She is rude and simply doesn't really care about her students. I explained to her my situation about getting my textbook and she didn't care. Long story short I have to drop her class and take it at a community college, but the good thing is it will be cheaper.
Professor Gross gets very rude when approached with questions in class or via email. If you email her to point out something is wrong (dates that assignments open or close) she will fix them and then pretend you are stupid. She does not grade your assignments in a timely manner and it took more than a month for me to get my FR test results back.
professor Gross is uh, different. shes super rude which can be really funny, especially when she goes off on students for asking questions. her notes are unorganized and covered fast, she expects you to know all the material, she teaches an online class as well but its the same as the normal class and she brings all her personal problems to class.
This professor is rude and expects a college student not to ask a professor for help. If you cant self teach I highly suggest you attend tutoring or run away from this professor. Overall, material is not that bad but the course is HEAVY with homework, poppers, and quizzes. Im horrible at math and got a A because I did the work and studied.
I took the online 1313 class with Professor Gross since I needed it as a credit. The class itself is super easy even though I hate math in general. I never attended any of lectures and just did the work that is due by googling the answers. Learned everything by doing the practice test and knowing how to do it since it's literally the test itself.
She is ok. tbh I did not listen to her lectures cuz they do not really show you how to do hmk or quizzes so I did all my learning at home. dont bother asking her questions in class because she gets annoyed. tests are like the online quizzes. go to CASA tutoring for help and she is more helpful there. 3rd test was the hardest 4th the easiest.
She would spend the first half of the online lecture complaining about other students (sometimes not our class), and the other half teaching and complaining. She's a great teacher, but that's her only flaw.
She seems to often veer away from lessons in her lecture and will talk about personal stuff but overall a good professor. She explains a lot how much she has to get done for all of her classes so I recommend not asking when you'll be receiving a grade back on an assignment, she's always working on them. tests are easy if you practice
Took the class online, didnt bother going to lectures. I didnt feel like i got anything out of her lectures, so i read the book and did problems from there. HW and poppers are expected at least 2x a week. but it helps you understand the material. quizzes and tests really arent that hard, just have to try. Made it out with an A with minimal effort
I don't like her attitude. We just wanted to ask a simple question but she makes us feel stupid for asking. (and she wonders why we don't want to speak up during class) She talks on and on about random stuff in class that doesn't relate to the class. Her lectures are boring, I only listen to the first half of the lecture because of announcements.
She can give an attitude. I don't believe she is purposely upset with you it's just her personality. As long as you study the chapter and watch the chapter videos before she teaches it. It will make sense. Lots of homework, poppers, quizzes but as long as you keep up with them an A is guaranteed on the tests.
She means well and wants the best for her students. Doesn't like when juniors/seniors take her 1310 course for a blow-off math credit, she'll tell you about that. Is a little intense when asked questions during lecture but it's not like she's mad or anything. She's sweet and likes to talk about her family during lecture.
I loved her class, her teaching skills are amazing. 3 tests, homework, quizzes, daily poppers, and a final (can opt out). The tests are taken at a CASA testing center. Poppers are 15% of the grade, so attendance is required. She will drop some grades in the end. Just pay attention in class and don't miss the deadlines and you should be fine.
She's fairly good. The lectures were a little disorganized and she drags them out sometimes, but it wasn't enough to get mad at. She gets angry when people don't join the live class or watch the videos but she has a point: if you just look at the slides later you won't do well at all. As long as you take notes and keep up w/ dates, you're golden.
Mrs. Gross is an amazing teacher! She's always willing to help anyone if they do not understand. She is always available for tutoring! I took two different classes with her and did very well in each one! She is a very kind and patient teacher.
