Tests were fair, however she writes real small on the chalk board and sometimes is hard to follow
all worked out well. i had no problems with her.
Talked down to students and didn't challenge us at all. I made a great grade, but I'm not sure how much mastery I have of the material.
Excellent teacher, easy to follow, thorough notes, tests relavent to lectures & homework. Made Calc 252 a lot less painful. Highly recommend taking Calc from her.
Got in her own world, a little unfair on some tests, no practice final, hard to follow at times, wasted time over deriving theorems
Great class. She tested on the stuff she spent most time on. Lectures were relevant and she was helpful when approached for help.
I liked her so much, I took her for both 252 and 254, and if she taught any other classes that i need, I'd be there.
This is a great professor! She explains things very clearly and understandably. Method of teaching is great. Tells you what you need to know for tests.
She is terrible! Does not care about students would rather fail them then help them out. No help in office hours. When you go she treats you like your stupid.
Seemed short with students at times.
I didn't like her at first, but her tests were very fair for the most part. She did lots of examples in class, and Gateways suck.. but in the end I felt she taught well.
She is a terrible math teacher in my opinion. When I'm paying to go to school I expect to have at least a decent teacher. Basically, I taught myself how to do integrals. Tests were not bad, if you knew the material, but she won't help you there.
Lots and lots of hw, explains the material alright, but no practice tests, and lots of hw.
Horrible, horrible, horrible!! She does not explain anything clearly, and does not give any help when it is needed. Go to someone else for this class.
Bottom line, SHE DOESN'T KNOW MATH! I've seen a 200 student lecture dwindle down to less than 15 after only 10 minutes of her babbling and fuzzy math. I'd like to see her credentials.
She is okay. But she never says "Hello" to the class.
her class was a nightmare. Her exams are not as easy as she make it sound the day before the exam. However, her examples does help a little.
hard grader
The class is challenging but if you put in the effort Dr. Harts lectures will be helpful
i didnt think she was that hard, but i do agree with many that she is a horrible teacher...it seems like she is doing her lectures off of compiled notes from various people that she just found in a trash can...i took this course in high school (review)
She gave good examples and explained a lot. Her grading was *VERY* fair. Tests were fair. I thought her lectures were good.
issues too many tests
Horrible teacher! She goes way too fast and doesn't answer any questions, and her tests are really hard. She also won't let you get a better grade in the class than the average of your tests, so homework can hurt your grade but not help it.
Not a good teacher or person - definitely not willing to help students or anyone.
Diane has the unique ability to screw up factoring, multiplication, and division. When she writes out definitions, they do not have any resembelence to a coherent sentence. Another math professor that should be in research only.
Very hard grader and mean.
Hart is a very confusing prof during her lecture. She has an uncanny ability to drop things/make mistakes in her derivation/examples. Her grammar/handwriting is described by the word suck! She does know how to do math but just cant teach it worth crap.
Prof. Hart was a good professor. She explained things well, and her examples were easy to follow. Her tests are relatively easy, and if you go to lecture and pay attention you shouldn't have much trouble at all.
Lectures not particularly clear. Homeworks not time consuming. Tests not particularly difficult.
Teacher was a fair grader and she does examples of all the stuff on the test in class. Shen never seems to devate from her notes though. Wjaich can be good or bad.
Several years ago she taught 2nd grade and it shows. She doesn't understing being constructively challenging (our 254 class got high D's and low C's on most of her tests and she was happy, 255 class got B's and she was upset). She also doesn't seem to have a great grasp on the material.
Good teacher overall. Approachable and willing to work with you during office hours. Beware: Tests can be difficult if you don't know the material and applications of the material well! On the up-side she curves tests fairly. Suggested problems helpful for exams.
well there is not much to say..... Hart sucks at life. Her tests were hard and the lectures a waste of time. This proff is a waste of space. (no joke)
Great Prof. Explains everything clearly and concisely. Tests were pretty easy - just study your lecture notes and homework assignments and you'll do fine.
Deffinatly can't slack off in her class.
I had her for 251, she scares me, she goes in depth in lecture and is a pretty good teacher but her tests are riduculious (she is very picky). When I took it there was no curve. I would avoid her at all costs if at all possible.
Good lecture, killer tests. Most people I know take her class and get really bad grades, then take from another prof and practically ace the class. Coincidence? Don't think so...
vector calculus isnt a fun clas sbut it is easier than Mth 252. Hart gives 3 midterms and a final for this class which can be good or bad depends who you are. Her test problems came straight out of homework so it was cake. The final was also very straighforward. Just do homework and you will pass
I had a great highschool calculus and am very glad because Dianne Hart is clueless. She makes everything a machine you chug through and you never really understand what's really going on. She'll make several errors in class and even when they're pointed out she'll hafta think about them for a while.
Hart doesn't want to teach you any math. She's there to regurgitate formulas someone else told her. If you want to understand what you're doing, take this class from someone else. MATH IS NOT ABOUT MEMORIZING FORMULAS!
She lets the final grade equal your course grade so if your really good then you can just show up for the final. Very helpful. Would take a math class from her again.
Hart is a good teacher, and her lectures are very useful. But she grades REALLY tough on tests. She didn't curve our class, but i've heard she does others. You either have to be dedicated to studying or have a natural math ability to do well on her exams.
Good teacher, horrible tests. Hard exams, very tough grader. Final exam brought me down from an A to a C. Her lectures were very clear though. If you take 256, be sure to have previous material down very good, almost *everything* from previous math classes comes back in this one. Bottom line: good lectures, bullsh*t exams.
Great teacher. Lectures were clear and to the point. Tests weren't bad - just study the examples she does in class because they're very similar to test questions.
Worst lecture ever!!!! weak, weak, weak. Hart..take your Sunday school mannerisms and stick em up your butt. Thanks for reading us the ****ing book verbatim and making up your own homework problems. She usually had to painfully and quite slowly rework any questions any student had. She sucks and will make you miserable if you have a grain of competenc
This class was much easier than 254 and had an easy pace nd she showed lots of examples that resembled the tests. The class was cake, all you have to do is go to it.
252 was way easier than 251. She works the problems slowly so you can understand, but yes, she does grade pretty hard. Still, I did well in the class & have recommended her to others.

Tests were straightforward, right from the homework. She explains things clearly and methodically. Seems like she could turn into a ****, but she stayed pretty nice the whole time.
Horrible teacher! The average of the first midterm was 48%. When I went to get help with my homework she would tell me that I should already know how to do it. I had to beg her just to get the correct answer to check it. She wrote terrible examples that had nothing to do with the HW and Tests. If you can avoid it, stay away from her class!
Worst teacher I have ever had, I understood everything and had no problem with homeowrk, I am great at math, but she grades so hard I had no chance in passing, Its seems easy but when you get to tests she's crazy, No partial credit, in math ??
She seems like she's a hardass, but she does really care about students' success in her class. Her tests are straightforward, with no games. Her reviews sheet told you everything you needed to know. She tends to go pretty fast in lecture, but if you pay attention it's not difficult to keep up.
Her test were impossible, our class average was 57%.I went to every lecture and still did bad on the test.she wasnt a good professor at all.She made it seem easy in class, but on homework and tests she used WAY harder problems. She says she wants everyone to do well, she never went out of her way to help me even when i asked. AVOID HER CLASS!!!!
Dianne Hart was lousy, but not in the sense she was a poor instructor, in the sense that she's a ridiculously difficult grader, and she's super linear. Every day, in and out, it's the same thing, and I'm not a big fan of that. I didn't really appreciate the way she didn't vary the class at all, but if you like absolute structure, you'd like her.
Dr. Hart was good at explaining the material in class, but it wasn't enough to prepare you for the tests. Unless one had already taken calculus beforehand or decided to pour a ridiculous amount of hours into studying, say goodbye to a decent grade. The class average was 54%. Don't take unless you have complete mastery of differential calculus.
She’s a good prof and explains things well; picks good TAs so you can rely on them for help when you need it. There’s homework due each week which forces ya to study once in a while by doin it, but its not bad. She comes up with a lot of examples involving dipping things in chocolate, very clear and easy to understand as long as you pay attention.
Some is review of high school calculus. Make sure to do homework problems completely to receive full credit. Midterms aren't too complex. Extra credit was helpful for a good grade! :)
Nice professor, but hard. There's not a lot of opportunity for partial credit on the exams: she gives it, but she's stingy, which makes it hard if you're not good with calculus. She does a nice job in the first week of reviewing trig and algebra, and there is a lot of available help. It's much harder if you haven't had calculus before, but doable.
I just took the second midterm. exams are not that hard. A lot of extra credit. Just do your hw and the suggested problem and you'll get an easy A
Hart is very clear and makes it easy to understand the content. She has a very good understanding about what she is teaching and it is very easy to read the notes/problems that she puts on the blackboard.
OUTSTANDING
Absolutely horrible! She isn't clear about what she is writing on the board. She writes a bunch of stuff, erases half of it and continues writing She doesn't explain what she is writing and never goes over the mechanics of formulas/rules. She would be great for someone who already has a decent understanding in calc, but not people completely new
Dr. Hart is a good professor, but get ready to sit down and crank out math problems a few hours a week if you want an A. I was garbage in math in high school but got A's in 251/252.
Good teacher. Had her for math 251 and 252. She's a very practical teacher. Explains how to do stuff and gives plenty of examples.
Took this class fall term. This is EASILY the worst math class I have ever been in. Her teaching style is to work a couple of examples and presume that you somehow therefore understand what is going on. Office hours are useless. Exams are hard. Avoid this class.
Professor Hart is not as bad as these reviews make her seem. It's the class that is rough and students should expect the material to be hard because...it is. It's not Hart's fault if you do badly, it is your own for not preparing enough.
She botched nearly every single example she showed us.
Easily the WORST teacher ever!! She actually refused to work out a problem and said 'it was not her fault the material was too complicated for us'. If possible, avoid taking math with her.
Dianne is a HORRIBLE professor. This was my second time taking the course, and the first time I did better. I worked a lot harder in this class, and still failed horribly. Exams are rediculous. Assigns way too much homework. She is childish and takes attendance, I thought that was only high school. Rude to class, she actually called us pathetic!
Great teacher, especially when it comes to calculus at OSU. Clear, helpful- but you MUST put in large amounts of effort to get a good grade.
I have never had to work so hard for such a mediocre grade. She doesn't know what she's teaching and the only reason i do as well as i do is because i teach myself most of it. She is very unhelpful but her TA's seem to be good. Unless you feel like lowering your GPA DON'T GET THIS PROF. You will regret it.
She may teach you everything about math, but you are supposed to know it once she is done. Tests are very hard, lots of curve balls, and extra book and TA time is required. And I was taking the Excel class too.
second time taking this class. She was a better teacher than i had before, but you must do the loads of homework and go to class. I thought she pretty much spelled out in class exactly what was needed to study for the tests.
Prof Hart is an OK teacher. She presents the material, but if you get behind, you are in big trouble. Prof Hart refused to let me make-up an exam when I has in the hospital. So my advise, don't get sick.
She is an extremely difficuly teacher! clear in class but her tests are NOTHING like what she teaches. not flexible with anything or forgiving. our class all falied her midterm and...no curve. thats 10 yeared for ya. you must put in UNGODLY amounts of extra work. is ur pre-med ect. dont take her class. period
NO partial credit. I took Faridani for 251 and apparently, despite my very good understanding of differential calculus, it didn't seem to prepare me for the hellish world of Military-Calculus. I repeat NO partial credit. Who is this woman? Don't take any other classes the same term as you have Dr. Hart.
I think she is a really confusing teacher. She comes off as all nice in the beginning then slowly starts to pick favorites. The relentless worksheet made me feel like i was a little kid and although I was in elementary education math, it was ridiculous. She is a difficult grader as well.
The averages on the midterms were at 50%. She actually is a good teacher if you can stand her condescending manner. But her tests are ridiculously impossible. 2/3 of the class did not finish the term. I'm taking this class at LBCC next year. If this is the first time that you have ever seen integrals I suggest you do the same.
Expectations for the students coming into the course are extreme. Besides skills tests, midterms, and the final, she also holds a quiz to review concepts learned before MTH 252 about a week into class. Don't take this professor if you're test taking abilities are not paramount. She grades tough, there's no curve, and never expect a retake.
many ppl warned me she was evil, but I didnt think it would matter because I am good at math...I put in so much time with her class with hw and studying...but she gave us tests that were nothing like the hw she gave us and were so long that no one finished the test...dont be like me and not listen to what ppl say about her...its all true!
I have to admit that she is a good teacher. She conveys the information so that you know what is going on. That being said this is a class is a nightmare. She is a hard grader and very unforgiving. My class had a high test average only because over half the people in the class was retaking this class. I would suggest her only if you are a math god
don't have her!!! she will eat up your money. She knows the information, but has a habit of practically killing her students on tests.
Don't have her. Rough with grading, tests, and with office hours. She can also be rude. If for some crazy reason you are in this class, invest in a tutor, and lots of time in the MLC and the Library. Overall bad teacher.
This class was miserable! You only got 1/2 credit for leaving off 1 problem on the homework and she doesn't even lecture. Just puts us in groups and basically teach ourselves.
This is THE worst teacher I've ever had. I've never gotten a grade below a B (ever!) and I got an F in her class. I should've dropped after 2nd midterm. I'm retaking with Schloeman and am currently getting an 87% in the class as of week 9. If you get stuck with this teacher, do yourself a favor & wait till next term and take it with someone else!
even though she's tough, she teaches really well. her lectures are extremely organized. she knows what she's doing. her midterms are hard but predictable (almost the same as previous terms). I would recommend her if you love math and think you are smart enough. she makes you well prepared for higher level math classes.
Half the dropped after fist midterm. Got A in 251 but dropped her class. Every one I know has said that she is the worst. She has her own class policies which include no note card and no practice exams nor practice problems for the exam. If she would actually give practice material or teach in class what was going to be on the exam then it wd bfine
she is icreadibly tought, i don't recommend her at all. i would rather to be graduated late than to take it
Math has always came easy for me so I never bothered to use this site to check my math professor. I got an A in every math class until this one, I barely passed with a D. She is outright ridiculous, she has her own rules. No notes at all in tests, no calculator at all, and 1 chance on the skills quiz which is far more difficult than any other proff
Best math teacher I have ever had. She actually cares about her students and their learning. She tells you EXACTLY what is going to be on the test. Therefore, practice test, note cards, and calculators are not needed for her class. I highly recommend her
Loved her! My favorite math class I have ever had in my entire life!!! Awesome professor who cares about her students.
I never took high school calculus, but she really made math so clear for me. Her nostrums were fair. She only gives one shot at the skills quiz, but she gave two last term because no one complained about the low average. Her final exam is hard, just make sure you study up! Great professor:)
I have to say, Dr. Hart is probably one of the most organized and methodical teachers that I've ever had. Her lessons flow together pretty well and her explanations are very clear. The tests are manageable; the skills quiz is very reasonable, but you must know the ins and outs of differentiation. Previous exposure to calculus helps!
Great teacher. She is very organized and teaches in a way that all students can understand. Don't be fooled though. She expects her students to work and work and work until you can't even think about integral calculus. If you are the type of person who is a hard worker, this is the perfect math class for you. At least it was for me:)
Does not teach at all. Only hands out worksheet and sits around while we work on them. She cannot teach math at all. Worst teacher I have had at OSU.
Discouraged enough to never take another math class again. I got a problem on a midterm correct when she marked it accidentally marked it wrong, went up to her after handing back the tests to get the two points added to my grade and her response was "I grade 400+ papers, it is not worth my time to go back and change your grade for 2 points."
She wasn't the worst, but she was bad. She WILL take off points for minor errors, such as forgetting to write units on an otherwise perfectly solved story problem. Take someone else if you can.
Hart is not a teacher that is concerned with the student's learning. She moves very quickly and assigns a lot of calculus problems which are due every other day. If you miss a concept, you will regret it.
She is not helpful. Makes you teach yourself. The book will be your new best friend. Talks down to students. Hardest grader at OSU. Made me hate math. Worst teacher at this school. Not very friendly. She gives more work than a person can even imagine. Over works her students. Overall a terrible teacher.
Lectures were well structured and made sense, but she grades REALLY hard. Hardly any partial credit was awarded. You couldn't miss more than 2 on the skills quiz or you failed it. Lab was pointless, worth hardly any points. She took attendance EVERY class. AVOID. Take anyone else if you can.
Went very quickly, not interested at all with student learning. Not nice, not even polite sometimes. Lab was hardly worth anything, and her tests were difficult with very little partial credit given. No curve at the end even though average was failing. Don't take her if you can avoid it.
Absolutely zero interest in student's learning, or even helping students that reach out for more help. Recommended half of my class retake math 251 even if we passed with an A. Condescending, unhelpful, uninterested.
Those bashing Dr. Hart are those who just dont understand and blame the teacher. Im finishing up my first term with Dr. Hart. Never took calc in highschool and have a 97 going into the final. She tells exactly whats on the test but she expects you to know your way around it e.g. occasional curve balls. Go to class and do your homework.
I was terrified to take the class from Dr. Hart going in, because her reviews on this site were so awful. But honestly, her class was just fine. It was boring because it's math, but her lectures were informative and to the point, and the examples she gave were the same kind as she gave in homework and on tests. GO to lecture, and you'll be fine.
In class examples are not even remotely close to what she tests on. Incredibly harsh grader, and completely unforgiving. Concepts are not even difficult, but she drills you with the most difficult version of any question imaginable. I would never recommend taking this class with her.
Lectures mad sense but were not helpful in any way when came to tests. Labs and hw were only like 8 percent of the total. She says she gives partial credit which she does but like 1 point out of 16. Not recommended unless you have a complete understanding of calculus and even then recommend taking her
Professor Hart made the material very understandable and clear during lectures. As long as you attend lectures and do the assigned homework the class is very manageable. The exams were a bit challenging and tested both conceptual and algebraic understanding, but she stated in class exactly what to expect from the exams so it was not unwarranted.
She was not helpful. I had 100% on all the homework and the test was nothing like the homework. She takes weeks to return emails and grades very hard. I would not recommend her to anyone.
This teacher made me HATE math! she makes every thing looks hard ! if U really want to get A, don't take a class wt her !!!
She's not clear AT ALL when gives lecture. If i didn't take Calculus in high school, I don't know how I would've passed this class. She gives out too much homework. WAY TOO MUCH. The homework count is about 50-60 questions per week, which is a lot of work. Her midterms are bit harder then the lecture and the homework.
Most comments on here are polar opposites. She's a very intelligent person and knows math well. She also has very high expectation and does not wait up for the ones who struggle and from experience didn't take time to show me personally how to go though a problem during her office hours. The lectures are very simple tests are hard. Rest is up to yo
Dianne Hart was by far the worst Math teacher I ever had. Her lectures were confusing, and what sucks the most is the fact that any examples she give will be nothing like the ones on the test. In class examples will be elementary, tests will be difficult. By far the worst. Avoid at all costs.
Dianne has a good personality. But when it comes to doing the math, you better having your thinking cap on because it won't be a joy ride. The examples she used in lecture were COMPLETELY different from the ones used on her exams. She expects way too much on her exams compared to labs and homework assignments. DO NOT TAKE MATH WITH DIANNE!
I didn't enjoy here teaching style . Tests were extremely hard and homework took forever. She is a nice lady, but not the best teacher. I would avoid taking any class with her.
Her lectures has practically nothing to do with her midterms and finals, but she does curve your final grade at the end. But overall she makes her lectures very easy but then the midterms and finals are something totally different.
Shes an awful teacher. I retook this class with another professor and got an A- and it made so much more sense. She does not deserve the honor of being called a professor, take math from literally anyone else.
