Very, Very funny. I love this class, she explains everything very well
Moves quickly. Covers every detail of everything. Doesn't really explain what she is teaching as she teaches it.
Horrible bio teacher! Very jumbled and unclear lectures, jumps around a lot, seems very unorganized and unprepared for class. Also seems to have a problem with students asking her questions for clarification. She is very condescending and distrustful toward students. Avoid her class if you want to actually learn something about biology.
Jennings is an amazing professor, cuts out all the needlees BS they taught us in High School and she gets right down to the details that are going to be on the test. She can seem to be rather condesending, but thats because she doesnt care about pointless information. Lets just say i never cared about bio before her class! Take it, you'll love it!
She seems to be very unsure of what she is teaching. Dosen't put forth much of an effort to help the students when they are struggling. Very unclear about all ideas and information. Lessons are clearly not pre-planned, and neither is test information.
OMGoodness. she cannot teach worth a lick. she talks about all these things and then at the end non of wat she said is on the exam. she talks tooooo much about nothing. and the exam information doesnt get covered much.... yet she doesnt go by the book either so your on your own. BAD BAD teacher.
Dr. Jennings is my favorite teacher! Her test are easy and so is anything else she assigns. She's real down to earth and one of the coolest teachers I know. I wish every teacher was more like her. You Rock!!!
Good professor! She knows her stuff. Didn't use the book much, but there were quizzes on the text book website which you could easily pass using notes. Exams are easy if you read over notes and do the study guide. Overall pretty cool teacher!
She was a great professor. I found her class interesting and informative and if the class was still confused then she was willing to go over the material again. Interesting sense of humor.
I really think Dr. Jennings is a good teacher, the real problem was that this was her first year teaching. As the semester went on I think she got alot better. The exams were pretty easy, and you have to keep track of the online homework, but other than that I feel that it was a pretty good class.
she was nice, and she knew what she was teaching. Her tests and quizes were easy. All you have to do is memorize the class notes that you took ( she basically tells you what to write) and do the online hw questions
Great Proffessor!!! I enjoyed her class a lot. She knows her Biology. I would recommend her any day. She gave us study guides right before the exams to study. If you study them, exams are easy.
She is absolutely terrible. Has no idea what she is teaching and she is rude. Chronic mood swings and she makes the information too hard to understand. She needs to go truthfully. Online quizzes, very hard, one chance, don't pass, you screwed!
Consider this, I failed Bio 101 last semester with a horrible teacher. Now I have Jennings and I'm passing with almost flying colors! From what ive heard about other teachers, I would say she is one of the best. Online work brings up your overall grade. Show up to class, read the book, and take good notes, Youll do fine.
Dr. Jennings was an okay teacher. She was new to VCU so she was a little lost. SI sessions and online quizzes helped a lot. She's a little crazy, but it's impossible not to pass. Go to class, do your work and it's an easy A!
Easy class. It can get a little tricky at photosynthesis but the class has really great TAs so go to the study groups if you don't understand something. She's a decent teacher, but she apologizes for biology too much. She doesn't seem proud of what she's teaching. Articles were annoying. Tests were easy. Good class. Good teacher. Easy A.
She's an awesome teacher, but don't talk when she talks. That's all.
The class is easy just as long as you do all the blackboard quizes (you can take them over) clicker and discussion questions..and COME TO CLASS! Shes gives tons of extensions and extra credit. The exams are not as hard as she makes the lectures, and about 1/2 the questions come from the quizes. Plus, if you get an 'A' or 'B', the final is optional.
Great teacher!!!! She is always willing to help and give extra credit. If you do the homework quizzes and go to class you are guaranteed an A or B. I am a bio major and she is the best biology teacher I have had so far.
Dr. Jennings is an awesome teacher. Recommend her 100%
She is rude and hates the world. Quizzes are hard on blackboard, and she always whines about the class talking while she is, but nobody is talking. I recommend another teacher!
LOVED her! She made a 300 student lecture seem like a small conversation. She's very clear on what she expects and doesn't throw trick questions at you.Uses blackboard extensively and that's to your benefit. Show up to class/do hw on blackboard and you're set.My favorite instructor so far!
I can't say one bad thing about her! There's so much room to make up extra points and the quizzes make up almost the entire test. Just print out the quizzes with the correct answers and you're set. She has an awkward sense of humor but she makes the class very enjoyable. TAKE HER CLASS :)
I never thought I'd like biology.
I hate biology but I LOVE this teacher! She is clear about what she expects. She is pretty laid back. In a class of 200, you have to pick up your own slack, but she seems like the kind of person who roots for you to do well. Sometimes she goes through things kind of quick, but for what I thought was a boring subject, she kept it interesting.
she is a great teacher. biology is my major so obviously it thought i would like the class but i know that biology can become a boring subject (even for me) at times. she keeps her classes interesting. the tests are a little tricky sometimes but if you know the clicker questions previously asked and the quizzes from blackboard you are going to get
Great teacher! Funny and helpful.
She is the easiest one. she will allow you to take the quizes twice or more. so, you can end up with perfect scores in the quizes. she never throws tricky questions in the exams. Just review previous quizes and clicker questions and you will rock the exam.Go with jennings and you won't be regrated.
She is a little ditzy but the class is easy. She does make a lot of little mistakes though, and has to be corrected often. Exams are pretty easy if you take notes and do the quizzes. Attendence isn't mandatory but you could miss class participation grades. Lots of extra credit!
professor jennings is pretty. i got C's on my exams but she gives out so many quizzes, forum discussions, clicker questions and everything else in the world to help you out. So even though my exams averaged out to C's I'm pretty sure i'm leaving with a high B or low A in that class. do your work!
Jennings is nice enough. The class lecture is an hour and 15 min, she rushes through to get out early at the expense of you being able to get all of the notes. The exams get progressively easier as the semester progresses. For a bio class it could be worse.
Wow, am surprised Jennings doesn't get higher ratings. Course is incredibly easy. I studied roughly an hour for each of the progessively easier exams and got all A's. She gives CPS for attendance, and online quizzes that you can retake 2 or 3 times. As an individual, Jennings is funny and prepares you well for exams.
Plant Class~ loved it!!! You do not have to buy the book but the pics will help you out~and if you need additional help she will work with you! EASY A+! Although I am a Bio major I still only studied for 1 hour for my final and got an A+!
Easy class. She uses clickers but you don't have to get the answers right, has online homework quizzes that are easy and are put straight on the exams, and forums discussions that are interesting. She gives you so many chances to get a good grade. Tests definitely got easier throughout the semester. Take her!
Plant Physiology--Dr. Jennings was a bit disorganized at the beginning but things got better as the semester went along. The class was very laid back and pretty easy.
Dr. Jennings was very helpful! If you go to class and do the CPS questions and review the material from lecture you'll get an A! She's also very helpful! TAKE HER!!
TAKE HER!!!! She is really laid back and will make your life easier. She gives quizzes online and you have three chances on each one. I highly recommend her. I also like her sense of humor, shes adorable.
She is awesome! Keeps the student entertained the whole time. She is very clear, and does not use a text book. shes big on the clicker so go to class. lots of personality tests are not too bad at all.
She is a great teacher and I'm basically that all I have to say. Take her!!
Dr. Jennings was great. I am not a bio person and was less than thrilled about having to take this class, but she made it simple, fun, and relevant to everyday life as much as possible (even to us science haters). Quite clear, straight forward, and VERY easy to take notes from, and study for. If you like order, you'll enjoy this this class.
Very friendly and helpful teacher. Gives much extra credit and assignments to make up for quizzes and tests. Fair grader. She explains material well, but cant exactly link it all together.
Very boring class, but pretty straightforward with material. Provded online quizzes to reinforce material. Study your notes and DONT buy a textbook. Bring your clicker everyday, (she gives points just for answering the questions)
This class was boring and a waste of time. The only reason I didn't get an A was becuase I was too bored to care about the class. Bring your CPS... she uses it religiously and takes attendance with it. DON'T BUY THE BOOK!!! Easiest BIOL professor so I've heard but look elsewhere if you want a challenge. I wasn't impressed...
I took AP Bio on high school, so this class is mostly a review -> still, she's made a lot of things much clearer than my high school teacher! :-D
She's a really great teacher! She keeps you engaged and is very smart and entertaining. She seems intimidating but she's actually really down to earth and nice. Awesome professor!
She is the most nicest biology professor I had so far. She really wants her students to get a good grade, and she does everything she can to make sure you get a good grade. She knows very well that no one is really interested in knowing about plants, so she makes it very interesting! Great professor!
This teacher is hard and very confusing. Her tests are EXTREMELY tricky, but she is fun to learn from.
She's really awesome! She's funny. Her exams are not that hard, nor easy. She tells you to read the textbook, but you really do not even need a textbook. You will love bio!! TAKE HER(if you can)!!!
AVOID! They had to snatch her from teaching 101. She gives the hardest short answer exams, and is rude! All those online quizzes get on your nerves. You have one chance to take them!
She loves the subject! The tests are somewhat easy, most come from the online quizzes and others come out of nowhere sometimes! CPS and online quizzes are a BIG part of the class. LOVES helping students out. Only extra credit opportunities are questions on the exam. I suggest that everyone takes her
i was slightly disappointed in this teacher. in the beginning she was alright but toward the end of the semester she seemed to just not care about the class. read the book and you will get an A. that's the only way i could manage it.
Her class is pretty easy and she is pretty entertaining/funny at times, but her lectures were extremely confusing sometimes. I got much more out of the book and online quizzes than lecture. But still, she's a cool teacher.
Very inadequate and rude. Makes her job seem pointless and pushes her students away with her bad attitude. She uses clickers religously... and is very unprofessional. Avoid if possible!
she uses test questions that are given online for quizzes......... and all those questions were about 70% of the final.. and about 30% of the regular tests. so if you do the quizzes, youll know a lot of the test questions.. shes good people too, down to earth and curves grades.....
Go to class, get an A. Skip a couple, get a B, Never show up except for tests, get a C. You would have to WORK HARD at failing to get lower than a C... Very disorganized, but interesting, fun, and cares about what she is teaching. Will alter the lecture to cater to students iterests!
Her exams are very detailed. She makes alot of senarios on her exams therefore you need to know more than the definition. When taking her you need to know everything inside and our
she made me really like biology. (i HATED it) she is so easy to understand and she tells you what you need to know. and she is really helpful if you want help. TAKE HER!!! she is really good.
She is passionate and her tests are easy and straightforward, she does throw in some confusing questions here and there but often puts bonus. Her exams are based off her lectures as opposed to the text. She wont ever throw any weird questions at you with out warning you about them. She offers buffer grade with her clickers and in class activities.
I recommend you to record ALL of her lectures. Trust me, it will be useful for upcoming exams. All of her exams are from her lectures. Don't spend your time, copying the power points, write down what she says. She gives a lot of unlimited tries quizzes and participation points which will boost your grade up to like a B+ or an A. E
She's a great professor and is very animated in lecture. She gives you the tools to get an A (Powerpoints are posted online) but make sure you take note of what she says. Clickers. Online quizzes you can take an unlimited amount of times. TAKE HER.
Dr. Jennings is great. Her class was the best. If u need a upper level BIO course, take Plant Development. As long as you study for the exams you should be fine. Also, Keep up with the notebook, lots of people didn't do them and ended up with B. She is very understanding and will Help you if you need. Take her for Plant LAB also if u get a chance.
One of the best teachers @ vcu. If you need to take this class get her! Helpful, powerpoints, funny, and great teaching style. I could've gotten an A if i had study more. I in the end got a B because i finally decided to study and earned an A on the last two test. An A as in i only miss about two questions. STUDY and you got it :)
Record all her lectures and take notes on just what she says, use the links she posts on blackboard if something confuses you. And most importantly STUDY! I did all this and got an A :)
I have to agree with the person below. I took 3 classes with her, she doesn't remember me even though I came into her office a lot, and whenever I came in to talk to her abt something I emailed her- she just pretended that she never got my email. Ridiculously unprofessional- but hey her class is easy as heck She sighs a lot and rolls her eyes weird
Great class.. easy to get an A... gives lots of assignments to boost your grade up but also a fresh serving of attitude to go with any questions you have. Approach her with caution lol She's rolled her eyes in my face 1 too many times
I took a few classes with her and by the end she just weirded me out. I felt like she didn't like me, but I have no clue why I got A's in her classes, showed up on time, and didn't cheat. Sorry Im not a suckup? I dont really get the whole eye roll im not going to do you any favors attitude she has. Just get the A move on and forget her coldness!
She's one of the only bio professors I've had that is passionate about the subject. She does come off a little impersonal but I think it's more attributable to her no-nonsense attitude than the "coldness" people are talking about. Her method of teaching is very straight forward and understandable.
Tough cookie..very strict on what she says and sticks to it and every thing she says in lecture will be on the test. she teaches with applied techniques not just knowing whats in the book. Not a bad teacher she knows her stuff just doesnt teach how i learn!
Attend every lecture, record all what she's saying, copy ppt after class and use test bank questions from the book-half of questions on exam are from there and the other half is from the NOTES! If you do that you will get an easy A! Her lectures are interactive, and involve group activities sometimes. She's really nice and has good sense of humour
Need to listen to what she actually says and not so much whats on the power points. Tests are not easy and are weighted differently. I had to work really hard in this class but im glad i did, i ended up getting a A on her final and in the class. She is also very willing to help her students!
She's a great professor. I love lecture and she really knows her stuff. It's just a shame that she seems to dislike teaching so much.
I have no idea why her rating is so high. Yes, she's lenient and very passionate about biology, but she is a horrible teacher. What she teachers in lecture does not show up on exams!!! She doesn't put up any important notes up on powerpoints or blackboard. She's very rude and cold too. Don't take her.
Dr. Jennings is a really great professor who knows her stuff well and tests you fairly on exams. She's also pretty cute for her age and would highly recommend her to others
BRING A RECORDER, and rewrite everything she says! Everything she says is on the tests. People fail this class because they just copy her powerpoints (which are very vague). take my advice and record her and listen to the recording. Go to class and do all the clicker questions, these boosted up my grade by a letter!
She's not a great teacher but her tests are fairly easy. Make sure you read the textbook even though she doesn't assign them. Her lectures are unorganized so make sure you read the textbook BEFORE coming to class so you'll understand what she's talking about since she's pretty bad at explaining things.
If you want an easy teacher, but do not really want to learn very much information then Jennings is the professor that you want. The tests are pretty easy, especially the final is made up 60% of old test questions from exams 1,2,and 3. The only really meaningful thing I remember about her class is phospholipids which she must emphasizes a lot.
Most class time is spent on Jennings trying to figure out how to use the CPS clicker program, the power point, or the projector. Material is not covered and nothing gets done. She is rude and disrespectful - she tends to roll her eyes a lot when students do not know the correct answer to her questions. Exams contain unexpected/unleared material.
Knowledgable professor. Read the material before class if you can and notate everything she says in class. Study for every test, as she doesn't drop tests. However the final should be easy if you look over previous tests.
She is a good teacher...just a little scattered. I would take a class with her again.
She is one of the better BIO professors at VCU. Reading the book is a must, as she tests on things not mentioned in class. Plus there are plenty of homework and classwork so that you can get Bs on exams and get an A in the class.
Jennings is an OK professor. Her lectures seem a bit disorganized and her slides and pretty much useless except for the clicker questions. You must read the book to organize info, otherwise you'll be lost. Her tests are alright---she has some difficult application questions as well as some hard ones from boring Eating the Sun.
Jennings is the best BIO 151 professor, and much better than Jill Reid from what I heard from friends. Her tests are very manageable, as long as you study notes and the textbook. Clickers are easy and show up on test; classwork helps boost your grade. The one thing I hate is Eating the Sun- it seems pointless and irrelevant to lecture material
Attendance is very important. She posts her slides on Bb but they aren't nearly as much detail as what she talks about. At times she is very disorganized but is very engaged in the subject. Her tests are very tricky so it is important you know the material backwards and forwards. Study hard and go to class and you'll do fine.
Biology is a hard class in general. You have to STUDY if you want to do well but Jennings IS A BOSS, SO TAKE HER!
I took Jennings for biology 151 and easily got an A. Her tests are not extremely hard, although she likes putting application questions and tricky questions. I never got lower than a B in all her exams. She gives plenty of extra clicker points and classworks points to boost your grade.
Very good teacher. Must take careful lecture notes based on what she says instead of her slides. Read the textbook to reinforce the general concepts you learn in class, but don't worry about the specific details in it. Do yourself a favor and ace all Mastering Bio/ HW assignments and enter an answer for all clickers...your final grade will love you
Def the best prof for this course. Take good notes in class and skim the book. Her tests are straightforward except for a couple application questions. Even if you get Bs on her tests, your classwork grade can really boost your grade. Take her over the others! I got an A.
A very reasonable professor whose tests are very manageable. She is very funny at times and really knows the material well. She can be a bit rude when you ask her questions during tests, but otherwise she is a fair teacher. I would definitely recommend her. Got an A!
She was so informative during lecture I didn't even need to read the book. She also gives GREAT study hmwk on masteringbio with a lot of helpful videos. Her tests were tricky at times, but after a while you'll get a hand of her test writing style and ace them. She also gave extra credit at the end of the semester and I didn't have to take a final!
Very helpful! Used all of the books so you know your money is not being wasted. You can tell she really loves the subject. Tests are pretty hard, but if you study you should do well in the class. She makes sure that you learn a lot!
I had her Fall 2011. Totally disorganized. NO class schedule, so you never know what chapters you are covering! Force you to read boring useless eating the sun. Her slides and what she is saying in class are super useless. She isn't interested in teaching at all. I got an A because I have a solid background in bio. I didn't need to take final exam
I had her for the Fall 2011 semester as well. On the contrary, I thought she was a good professor. If you take solid notes based on what she's saying and look over the textbook for background, you'll do well on her tests. And if you go to class and do the Mastering Bio, you'll be rewarded with a nice grade boost at the end! Got an A pretty easily!
Warning. Dr. Jennings has changed her tune recently. I think she figured that her classes were too easy. I am an A student, and I have an A in this class currently. However, half the class is failing...the last exam average was in the 50s. She is condescending and demoralizing toward the general student body. Disrespectful and rude. Difficult exams
I second the last rating, about how she has changed her tune- and how she acts towards the class! The last test was impossible. I am 'A' student, especially in biology classes, but I as well as the rest of the class failed the last exam. She is rude and does not teach the material; instead you read out of the book and do in class assignments.
the people who are complaining about her are just plain LAZY. her class is 50% homework/classwork, 50% tests. you must be super dumb to not get an A or B. she is very good at lecturing - her ppts don't really help but just take detailed notes on exactly what she says and you'll do fine! also, reading before class is very helpful. highly recommend
My tips for Dr. Jennings: 1. do the reading BEFORE class. 2. If you do not like group work, then you will have to get used to it, but most of the time she grades in-class work just for effort. 3. come to class. and 4. take detailed notes and drill the fundamentals in your head.
Go to class, do the assigned readings and assignments and you will do fine. She is very reasonable and a great teacher!
She is so interesting. The class is hands on. If you go to her lectures, sit up front, do the homework & give it some out of class study time, I don't see how you could do poorly. She is an awesome teacher. She'll keep you on your toes, & try in every way to help you succeed.
Attend Class. Clickers are a high percentage of your grade. Her class is easy if you attend lectures and pay attention to what she says then read in depth in book, you will do fine on tests. She LOVES plasmodial slime molds so study them esp. towards the end of the year as they will be on the test and final. Easy class but not helpful answering ?s
Jennings is an excellent teacher for 151. Although she does rely on the book for alot of her material she does make sure that the difficult stuff like photosynthesis is covered thoroughly and clearly. She is very interactive and likes to hear from the students. most of your grade is based on attendance though so GO TO CLASS
Jennings has changed a lot in the past few years. Her class is challenging not due to the content more due to the way she words questions and the amount of answer choices she gives on quizzes and exams. Readings and quizzes on readings are done every class. I have an A but had to work hard considering its a general class.
The content is not difficult but she makes the questions confusing in class and on the test. When students have questions she isn't too helpful either. A lot of time in class was spent doing worksheets. Attendance is important but what you learn in class.... is less helpful compared to the readings.
Jennings' class is the worst Bio class I have taken yet! She does not teach anything during class, everything is strictly reading based. When she told the class she would lecture (for the first time...keep in mind there is 2 weeks left in the semester) they applauded. This class is way harder than it should be. STAY AWAY FROM JENNINGS.
HARDEST CLASS YOU WILL TAKE! Bio 151 with Jennings is so difficult, that if you study for a week straight for her test you my still fail. There are more than 8 answers to every question on her test so you have to know the information like you're the professor. GOOD LUCK!
She is rude to the entire class. She doesn't teach the material, and doesn't care if you know it either. Tests are extremely difficult and confusing, there are 8 answers for each question. You take a quiz during each class, which takes your "attendance" and factors in hugely for your grade. I did well in this class only because I enjoy Bio.
I like Jennings' style of teaching, but it won't work for everyone. I put a significant amount of work into this class, got 100s on almost all online assignments, and still got a B. Doesn't really teach-you read the book, do clickers & worksheets, and that's how you learn. Don't expect a lecture.
Professor Jennings is the worst professors I have had so far at VCU. She does not lecture. This class could be an online course, you only learn from the textbook. Clickers/quizzes in class are difficult and she never answers the questions. She is very rude and does not help students. Exams are hard too! I had a 4.0 last semester but got a B in here
She doesnt teach, you learn everything from the textbook and go to class once a week to do clicker questions. Her tests are impossible
Do not take her. So hard all online, when supposed to be a lecture, you have to teach yourself everything.
Jennings changed her class to a flipped class. She doesn't lecture at all. You must go to class once a week to do clicker and short answer questions which are 30% of your grade. She gives mandatory online hw that is 30% of your grade. The tests (40%) are impossible. This being said, 60% of your grade can be a 100 if you do the hw and go to class.
Jennings is not exactly a bad teacher, it's her teaching style that is so "bad". She does not have lectures, but she does have group work and really great online quizzes/homework. The online questions are basically the same as the test questions. If I can score 110% on the Final Exam, her class is not that hard. It just takes a lot of outside work.
Please stay away from this class. Although she does her work, but the clarity of her teaching is strange. She is not organized and her tests are super hard. I wouldn't recommend this class for easy A students.
DO NOT TAKE! This professor does NOT teach period, or know how to for that matter. She isn't very helpful, and kind of rude. I pretty much had to teach myself the entire course. If you are good at teaching yourself and don't like lectures then this class is for you.
I took BIOL 152 with her while she was co-teaching with Moore, so it was so much harder than it needed to be! Ever assignment of hers is online and if you do the homework, those are the tests! However, she doesn't really lecture so the class is heavily dependent on the textbook. Good luck, I barely got a B!
Dr. J does not like to lecture, but when she does you need to right down everything she says, not just what is on the powerpoint because a lot of what she says is on the test. Her tests are pretty hard and if you don't read the book and all the material she posts online then you will fail. It is a hybrid course, so you have to check online a lot.
I wouldn't recommend this lab. It's kind of a poor supplement for the lecture, which covers a huge amount of info. In the lab you barely cover the basics. It's just a lot of group work and Jennings doesn't really teach.
Professor Jennings hardly ever had any substance in her lectures. However her tests were fair and her participation policy made it so that everyone should get a passing grade, if not an A. Don't expect much teaching, but you can just read the textbook. Attendance only mandatory because of clicker questions.
Her BIO 151 class is hybrid online. The lecture was extremely unimportant compared to the online part of the course, but attendance is graded. I felt that I could have skipped the two, 1 hour lectures each week and still have gotten an A. Her "teaching" felt like a waste of my time. I learned from the online quizzes and readings.
The class throws a lot of people off because it is a hybrid course. Pretty much means the lectures should be a supplement to the work you outside of class. Keep up with the assignments and you can get a good great if you don't do so hot on the tests.
All of her quiz questions barely have anything to do with the text or the lecture. She finds questions from online review websites and rewords them to confuse the hell out of people. Would never take her again. Honestly, the only reason I took her was because her class was the only one that fit into my schedule.
People say she's bad but they're probably just not used to her personality and style. If you go in with an open mind, it's pretty easy to do good. There's a lot of assignments which makes it easy to maintain a higher grade unless you just don't pay attention. Sometimes even tells you the exact test questions.
The class is definitely dependent on the book. She does not read off the slides, so you have to listen to what she is saying and write it down. As for helpfulness, I went to see her recently and she looked exasperated when I started talking to her, she didn't answer my questions, and looked like she wanted to be doing anything else.
There are no tests. The "lecture" is online, which may include question sets with unlimited attempts, forum discussions, or short answers. There was usually one assignment per week. Lab was annoying at times, and the TA was an impossible grader. But if you do well in the online portion which is pretty easy, you'll get an A.
Really, she gives a lot of assignments but most are easy if you read. She does clickers daily. The tests are straight from the homework and readings. She makes the class so much more interesting. I would've gotten a higher grade had I read.
Jennings doesn't lecture. She divides the 300-person lecture hall into groups of 4 to do worksheets. She is entirely unhelpful, unpleasant, and does not actually teach. SI sessions were of no help. I am normally a very positive person and a good student (4.0 before this class) so don't write me off here, and DON'T take Biol 151 with Jennings!
Her class is a hybrid class so most of the work is done online. If you are not good at teaching yourself the material then do not take this course. Also she only gives extra credit if almost everyone is failing and it has to be earned. This being said she is a fair teacher and she does not try to fail you.
Dr. J's goal is to weed out those dedicated to medicine and those who aren't sure. She can be quite intimidating. Be sure you do the readings, keep up with the dozens of online assignments, and pay attention in class. You'll do well if you put in the effort, I promise. (AP Bio really helps, though.)
If you are good at teaching yourself, then take the class. She touches on a few topics per chapter and says it'll be a huge part of the tests. NO. Those few topics will be 2/40 questions she gives you. The short answer part is what killed my test grades. Make sure you read and are able to teach the material to yourself.
Professor Jennings treats this class like it's the only class you have in the semester, and she actually almost admitted that at one point. She gives 3 quizzes every week and group project assignments almost every class! Tests are filled with those choose all that apply questions which are tricky. She is knowledgeable but a shame she isn't helpful
Extremely difficult to communicate with and she doesn't sympathize for any technology or submission issues. She does not drop any grades and does not round. I received an 89.7.... B.
This class was a hybrid course (half lecture, half online). It was tough at first. After putting in effort and hard work, I went from a D to almost an A. Pay close attention to her lectures, take good notes, read the textbook and do the homework quizzes until you get a 100%. Some questions from the quizzes will be on the tests.
She was very unclear about what to expect on the test, for example she would tell you to study the diagrams yet she never tested on them. I got a D on every exam... its hard.. DO THE HOMEWORK QUIZZES OVER AND OVER TILL YOU GET 100% this is what is gonna save your grade for the class, it got me a B in the end, which is better than a D just sayin'.
be real if ur premed or a bio major ur not expecting it to be an easy ride right? if ur willing to work ull be fine. Show up to every class, she won't explain everything or be clear about exams but if you read all the material (supplement too) do the hw till you get 100% it'll save your grade, and memorize those hw q's
She is nice and has office hours but this class was tough. she doesn't make it easy you really have to work for it. you can expect a lot of readings. SHE USES THE SAME QUESTIONS ON THE QUIZZES/READING CHECKS ON HER TESTS SO WRITE THOSE DOWN.
Her test are open bubbled which means that any number can be correct Pick one incorrect selection out of the few correct selections, well there goes your points and a deduction She makes her own tests that only she understands, nor are they in the book
Don't stop doing the online assignments! If you get Ds on all of the exams and have an A average on the online assignments, you can still get an A in the course. She doesn't do much teaching, so get ready to read- A LOT! Lecture is very useless and doesn't reinforce the readings and supplements.
I am a straight A student and struggling to hang onto a B. The short answer tests kill your test avg. She only counts responses correct if you say every possible thing about each topic, yet is so vague that you don't know what to study for. All that's saving me are the online assignments which are 40% of your grade; do them till you get 100.
The class is challenging and you will need to work hard. She lets you read before lecture and she ties everything together, give examples in class. She gives you everything needed to get an A, the rest is up to you. You form a group and there are group worksheets and she calls on random groups for answers. less stress + easier A another professor
I had Jennings for both 151 and 152. She has an acquired kind of humor, but can be interesting. She does a lot of mixed media work. Before each lecture a question set must have a first try with a future due date. There is a lot of in class group work as well as Top Hat questions. If you fall behind, it is hard to catch up. Keeping updoing well.
Unlike other bio classes, there's no tests/exams in this class. No textbooks either. just do your weekly homework and participate well in the group projects! Highly recommend.
I took Dr. Jennings for both semesters of Intro to Biology (151/152), and while I can say the class itself should be easy since it is an introductory course, both courses require a lot of work outside class time. You MUST be willing to read the textbook on your own and teaching yourself 70% of the material because she is limited in lecture time.
Had Jennings for BIOL 151/152. You HAVE to keep up with readings so you know what in the world she's talking about in class. Her tests are pretty hard although they're online. Her intro classes are weed out classes for any pre-health students. Don't be fooled by her dumbs jokes in class.
She is the best Bio 152 professor. However, her tests are very hard, you can't just memorize the book. You must attend her class every day or you won't pass because that is 40% of your grade. She does give some extra credit. If you plan on taking this class without studying, you will fail. Also, she does not round grades, an 89.99 is a B.
The tests are extremely hard but the amount of hw that you do in this class balances out the tests. You do the hw assignments as many times as you want and she takes the highest score. So obviously just do until you receive 100! She does the best to help student count was very large. Answers emails very quick and accurate.
This class was super hard and Dr. Jennings won't make it any easier for you. There were couple of online multiple-choice questions that had nothing to do with the material covered. Her in-class short answers exam kills your grade, yet they are not impossible. VERY HARD CLASS but definitely worth it.
She is quite passionate about her work, specifically environmental subjects. The main focus of her grading is online "review quizzes" that have unlimited tries up to a specific day, but there are a lot of them. Around the beginning of the semester you create a group of 3-4 people in the class and work with them every lecture, which sucks.
One of the easiest bio classes if you stay on top of readings and quizzes. I wish I could take her again
This class in half online half in the class. Her lectures are mostly a review of the readings on BB, but showing up to class really does help because she gives Tophat questions and worksheets. 50% of your grade is tests and the other half is participation. Every week she has 3 homework assignments on BB that you can retake until you get a 100.
You should expect to put forward 90-100% of your effort into this class. Follow along with the readings, always do the review questions as test review and always get 100% on the practice tests because they will save your grade in the end. Jennings is a very fair professor and her lectures are extremely useful so class attendance is recommended.
If you're not knowledgeable in biology, do not take this class from this professor! Her tests are difficult, she creates her own questions and wants the answers to mirror her exact answers. Her grading system does not reflect the amount of work she requires to past the class with a decent grade. She purposely makes it hard to pass the class :(
Unless you consider yourself pretty proficient in biology, I'd say stay away from this professor. She's not good at explaining things and you pretty much teach yourself the entire class. Her lectures are basically her rambling while giving very little pertinent info. Only saving grace is test is half online at home and half free response in class.
Overall Dr. Jennings is a great person, but I honestly didn't learn anything from her. She would talk all class and I still never learned anything.
Professor Jennings is great. I wish I could have had her again for BIO 152, but the seats for her section filled up fast. Her exams have an online MC portion which are 70% of your exam grade and a short answer which are 30% of your exam grade. Her class is doable if you put in the effort. If I actually studied for exams I could have gotten an A.
She's a great professor. The tests are 50% of your grade and participation is the other 50%. There is a lot of reading from the textbook, but it's online and provided for free through her blackboard. You'll have to buy tophat. The multiple choice portion of the test is online and the short answer is in class. She'll hint at test questions in class.
Her tests are hard. She is so boring and has too many group assignments. I really would never take her again. She has too many readings and there is quiz after every reading. The tophat and being able to retake the quizzes helps boost up your participation grade but I wish her test weren't so hard
Her tests are hard, she does not curve even an 89.99 and she is not great at teaching the content required for this course. No matter how hard you work for her class, she will not help you with your grade at the end of the semester. Do not take her if you want to end up with an 89.9 in the class and get a B when you really deserve an A.
I think she was great lecturer for 151. Everyone who shows up to class and puts in some effort will definitely get the grade they worked for. However for 152, her teaching style was not very compatible with mine and I l felt that her lectures had no content(but still go!). Also keep in mind she doesn't round (an 89.8 is a B!).
Dr. J was fun and engaging. She worked with my schedule outside of class because all of her office hours were when I had another class.
Jennings does not know how to stay focused during lecture. She rambles off and rarely finishes her powerpoints in the class time. Most students leave her lecture leaving more confused than when they came in. You really need to understand the readings from the online textbook to do well on the tests, and even then her class is tough.
Bio is hard regardless of the teacher. Jennings does 50% participation/50% test average. The participation is an easy 100 comprised of online quizzes (which you can retake) + in class activities. For the tests, 70% of it is taken online and at home, 30% in-class. She is a competent lecturer and gives plenty of opportunities to earn extra points.
Hardest class I had to take my freshman year! Make sure to attend all of her lectures because even though attendance is not mandatory, she still gives out graded papers almost every class. The class mostly consists of over an hour of group work and little lecture time. Her tests are extremely hard. class average was a low C- with mostly bio majors
Providing lots of EC, she really wants everyone to succeed and get As/Bs. I ended up loving my "group" by the end of the semester (despite being shy!) A LOT of work has to be done outside of this class- A hybrid course. But the grade you earn is honestly you. Not her. She gives many opportunities and truly cares. Visit during office hours!!
Professor Jennings is the best teacher I've ever had in my life. I hated biology in high school but became passionate about and I learned how to push myself and work harder. I highly recommend Jennings as a professor to all who are looking for a challenge. This class isn't easy if you do not put in the time and effort but I have learned a lot.
She's a tough grader. There were 4 tests in total, 70% online consisting of 44 questions that were difficult and 30% in class portion that can be tricky if unprepared. A lot of outside work and in class group work. Her lectures were a bit out of order and you have to put in more work in this class. Got an A in anatomy and barely obtained an A here.
Dr. Jennings is a good professor, but a very tough grader. This is a difficult class for anyone trying to go into Allied Health professions. you need to read and understand the concepts in-depth to know the information. Come to class prepared ahead for work and do the study questions she provides to do well. Tests online are 70% and in class 30%
For me, I never got much out of lectures and didnt pay attention most of the time unless it was a worksheet, but still go to class. Doing the readings with careful note taking is how I did well, and get As on all practice questions. She pays attention to small details, so read! Be very detailed in your short answers, more is better than less.
You have to work with a group that you get to pick for worksheets that ends up being a good chunk of your grade so do not skip. Helps even more if you go to office hours to get her to explain something in more detail. She will not round your grade but gives you some chances to earn points that go toward the your overall grade. Very helpful and nice
The class is really easy cause all you need to do is just work on the online assignments she gives you on Blackboard and just show up on test days. The tests aren't too hard since the assignments she gives you explains everything. It's not hard it just takes a lot of work.
Average/serviceable lecturer. Where she shines is her online blackboard based review material. I've never had a teacher with as well laid out course material. Every unit has practice HW questions on assigned reading with clearly labeled due dates, with unlimited attempts. If possible, take her sections with Dr. Moore who is a fantastic lecturer.
Shes not hard if you pay attention. Theres a heavy homework load but not bad if you manage time wisely and be on top of assignments due dates.
Tests are two parts, online portion and in class portion, the online portion is timed which kind of stresses you, you don't learn much in class because the lecture is just the basics and doesn't go over in detail about the subject material. Do your work on blackboard though and get good grades on the tests, you should be fine.
If you didn't take AP bio prior to this class, you will have a lot on your shoulders. She makes you work in groups, and her lectures aren't really helpful for studying for the test. She assigned so many assignments in such a short period of time, so get ready to sacrifice a lot of your free time to this class.
Shes a great teacher and gives you time to make up assignments if you miss them. You don't have to always show up for class but if you don't there is assignment you must complete blackboard. Make sure you do the black board assignments and do them until you get the highest grade because she takes the highest one. I loved her she was the best!
Dr Jennings was honestly a great professor. She slides in jokes throughout the lecture, and truly understands that people get distracted in class. The test covers the lectures, and the readings. The test are not easy, but her grading scale it makes it so that you can bomb the tests but still get a good grade.
She is one of the few professors who actually makes the final based off the last few chapters instead of cumulative like every other test. She is very caring and if you sit down with her, asking for help, she will without a doubt sit and help you understand the material. Make sure you sit in the class and are quiet/pay attention/do tophat! Loved!
At first, I wasn't sure about this class, but I learned to love it. It is not an easy A class, but it does help you learn a lot. She has online readings that act as a textbook. All the test information comes from these readings, so make sure to take detailed notes for each one. She's a good grader with high expectations from her students.
BIOL151 is really challenging but as long as you put in the effort in Jennings' class you will get an A. There were 4 tests total. All 4 were super hard. Try your best from the very first test since that is the easiest one! The 3rd test is the hardest IMO. She assigns one or two reading every 2-3 days and if you want to do well, take lots of notes!
Jennings is a great professor. SI Sessions helped a lot. Don't expect to learn directly from the lecture, it is just meant to supplement the reading. Very manageable class as long as you stay on top of your readings and practice quizzes.
The most important thing to do well in this class is to understand the readings VERY well. Its more than just memorize, u have to be able to connect concepts. She gives u enough assignments to buffer test grades. It should not be hard to get an A if you are able to answer all the learning goal questions on tophat readingsand do all the hw on time.
fr fr though she literally did not help. I went to class but her lectures were literally just group work. We learned everything we needed to from BioBeyond. By the end I think she realized her class wasn't helping anybody so she made class optional. TBH she was super funny and nice but class was pointless.
I dedicated most of my time to this class and had a very rough time. Jennings is not the worst professor but she is a very tough grader and is hard to follow. Also, the material on the tests are significantly harder than what is presented. Make sure you have a solid group and utilize every opportunity of extra credit that Jennings gives.
Terrible lecturer, she's a great person and she clearly knows what she's doing but doesn't know how to teach it to others.
She is a fine lecturer (kinda funny) but she does 50% classwork and 50% tests which makes it easier to get a good grade even if you don't ace all of the exams. If you put in some effort, you should be fine.
I'm currently in her 152 class and boy the tests are hard.. I have zero chance to demonstrate what I actually know. Her lectures are really difficult to follow, to the point where taking notes becomes impossible. If you have the option, get another professor for 152 so that you can actually learn the material and not have to spend hours in a book.
She can be extremely rude and unclear about what she expects from people. She knows the material she teaches on but expects you to know it at the level she does. If you have the opportunity, do not take her. You will be confused and upset with how she speaks to people the entire class.
I've had her for 151 and it was completely fine for the most part as I've passed the course with an A. However, it seems that when you take her for 152, it's a dual teacher system so now there's two professors teaching this course. So, they incorporate all their ideas into one course and makes it INSANELY difficult. don't take this prof for 152
You can tell she puts this class on the back burner. No quizzes, no tests, and the whole semester is you summarizing research articles and presenting in front of the class. It's all busy work cause she doesn't like to lecture. The project is a huge mess, no clear grading criteria, no good feedback. But easy A, never got below a 100.
The worst professor I've ever had. Lectures are so confusing. For 152, the combination of Jennings and Moore is so overwhelming. Jennings is mean and spiteful and they make it seem like they want you to fail. Not understanding of absences at all. Overall a horrible experience, and my only B's this year were in her classes.
Avoid at all cost. Difficult class but she makes it even harder. Not that nice of a person/professor and wasn't even helpful. She basically makes all her TAs do her work. Don't expect her to be of any help, she'll just direct you to the TA. Professor Moore is just as bad so avoid them at all cost especially if this isn't part of your major.
Don't ever try to take her with Prof Moore, it made this class so confusing. This class is extremely hard and confusing. The tests are unbelievably hard and challenging.
Avoid this professor if possible; lectures are impossible to follow, she is unprofessional and unkind and the tests do not relate to material "taught." The only B I received this semester.
Run fast as you can !!
I had Dr.J for bio 151 as a freshmen and why her class does require work she wants everyone to succeed. The online readings are super easy and you can do them over and over to get 100%. Her test are only difficult because she actually expects you to know the material on a deeper level then just facts. Over all an amazing person and professor.
An extremely difficult professor. Refused to round up my grade by .13% despite me doing all assignments. Has little compassion. Very difficult to follow lectures and assigned a lot of of homework assigned. Tests are designed to have you do poorly; material tested on is not in lecture and/or reading materials. Sucked out all my love for biology.
Her lectures are boring and unclear at times. She gives a lot of homework and expects a lot. However, she tries to give several extra credits to compensate for her grading. I recommend doing your assignments and study ahead of time so you're not behind on all her work. Go to as much of her preceptor and SI sessions + do all her resources on BB.
Worst professor I've ever had. I managed to do well, but she was rude and difficult and confusing. Made me hate bio.
I had Dr.J when I was a freshman and reading some of these reviews they are very biased. She is one of the most honest people I have ever met. She will NOT round your grade and she tells you that from the jump. You earn the grade you get. If you go to class and do the work it is not a hard class. She really cares and is always willing to help!
Dr. Jennings is my favorite professor at VCU. She does not read off the powerpoint, enforces group work, is hands-on and tests are simple if you finish all the work. She has made me fall in love with Biology and her lectures continue to prove worthy in all Biology courses. Dr. J is easily approachable. Take her, do the work, pass, and be happy.
I took conservation bio with Dr. Jennings and got an easy A. Class structure was a little confusing, and most assignments were graded the week before graduation which was kind of scary, but overall the work was easy. Lots of group work, a final project, a few presentations, and some homework. Definitely recommend!
Dr. Jennings is the best for BIOL152. Dr. J is is here for the students more than ANY other professor on campus. Her tests are tough but you've already seen the questions and she is extremely helpful in Office Hours. She's my favorite professor on campus. If you take away anything from these ratings, it is that Dr. Jennings is the best. MUST TAKE!!
BEST PROFESSOR ON CAMPUS! Definitely take Dr. Jennings for any course you can, especially Quant Bio - she is extremely intelligent and very helpful! Her once-a-week lecture helps you exceed in this course and Dr. J's extensive knowledge at times helps you in other classes! She has a good sense of humor and is an amazing professor. She gives EC too!
Honestly, a lot of these other ratings have been pretty biased. I've taken Dr. Jennings in various courses across the semesters and have been able to perform well in all courses. Although she can be strict with her policies, she is extremely caring and sets you up for success. If you do the work, you will definitely do well in the class. Take Dr. J
Dr. Jennings is the best. I am not joking, some people have given dumb reviews and didn't focus in their first/second semesters which caused them to do poorly in her classes. Dr. Jennings is tough; go to her office hours, go to lecture, learn from her and you will be set for the REST of your Undergrad Biology. You will never regret taking Dr. J :)
I really hate bio 152, taking online classes, and exams, and this is all 3 combined. I really didnt love the class much but Jennings did try. She tried different formats to allow us to understand the class better and put the textbook readings on canvas for easier access. She helped, but not a lot. I failed almost every test but she gave xtra credit
If you take her suggestions on how to study for her tests seriously and go to office hours, you will be fine! She uses your feedback in office hours to tailor the class to you. Study a little bit every day to make it more manageable, don't cram all of your studying into the week before the exam, spread it out. Her study guides HELP YOU.
Dr. Jennings truly cares and wants all of her students to do well. Due to the adjustment of online learning, classes have been difficult and she has altered many aspects of it to benefit everyone. She listens to all suggestions and provides us with many resources such as study guides, in-class guides, readings, and several practice quizzes.
For lecture, she provides note taking guides to help organize the information because it can be a lot sometimes. For exams, do the study guide because a large chunk is fully understanding the material and being able to apply it. She also listens to students' opinions and will adjust things to benefit the students if it's reasonable.
Dr. J is one of the sweetest & understanding professors I've ever had. While her class is heavy on quizzes & exams, she often curves exam grades & give multiple opportunities for extra credit. She will help you if you need it. I most definitely had to work for my grade in this class, but Dr. J made it easier with all the extra credit opportunities.
Cons: Very annoying in the way she teaches, she makes the class more harder than it needs to be. Her quizzes have strange wording. Pros: online textbook is provided and very easy to understand, no final exam.
Dr. J's teaching style includes using diagrams/examples to help you APPLY information instead of lecturing from slides. This helps me remember the content so much better. Dr. J is lenient with late work and gives you opportunities to get an A with group work, homework quizzes, dropping two quizzes (no exams). The quizzes are straight-forward.
Dr. J's class was for sure a wake up call for me, but I've learned so much about myself and my own study habits from her course. Her quizzes are not very easy IMO, but if you put in the time to study a little everyday, you will be good to go for an A. Class is half quizz grades and half assignments.
Jennings is a caring professor and will help adjust things based on what feedback she gets from her students. The textbook is given free online. Her quizzes are hard but she wants you to actually understand the content. I recommend going to her office hours. She records her lectures and draws diagrams to help us.
Dr. Jennings's class was the most fun class I had this semester. She's really passionate about what she does. No textbook but she gives out readings for every topic. DO THE READINGS BEFORE EACH CLASS! it would be much easier to understand the concepts. No final exam. 7 difficult quizzes & drops 2. Reach out to her when you're stuck, SHE WILL HELP.
Hard professor but learned a lot.
The class had no direction. We were all fairly new with doing such lab work and it seemed like it pained her to help and guide us through the lab. Have a question? Don't bother asking. You'll receive a PAINFULLY sarcastic and witty response. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU DONT HAVE TO! Was a decent professor in other courses, but was very absent in this one.
Dr. Jennings is one of the best biology professors you will find at VCU and you will get an A if you take notes on the readings and attend the lectures. Quiz questions are related to concepts from the readings and lectures. The only downside to the class is the homework load, but it helps students understand concepts more thoroughly.
Jennings is a great professor and she genuinely wants her students to pass! Her class is half quizzes and half group assignments, which makes it easier to get an A! If you do the readings/Q sets, participate in class, and go to office hours, then your set! Her quizzes aren't that bad, just look over her study guide + Q sets and you'll do great!
I love Dr J and will take her as often as possible in the future. Her lectures are passionate and engaging and, despite large class sizes, she manages to interact with students well. Her online material is well laid out. The quiz questions come directly off of the reading question sets. Do the readings, go to class, you'll pass. Take Dr. Jennings.
I hated this class with my entire being. 99% of the assignments you do will be group work. Oh, you have a bad group? Tough luck, you gotta deal with it until halfway through the semester which is when you can request a new group. Quizzes were tough and half of the material wasn't even in the lectures or reading. She's caring, but that's about it.
I struggled a lot in her class this semester. While we don't have a final, the quizzes are brutal and are barely related to what she says for us to study. There are so many homework assignments, readings (no textbook), and group work that will absolutely confusing. She's a very kind person though.
Excellent professor. Readings are long, quizzes are hard, but professor teaches well and her class is very flexible making for a really good experience. Thoroughly enjoyed it :)
This class wasn't too difficult to get a good grade in, but I didn't feel like I really learned anything. There is lots of reading which isn't always gone over in class. However, as long as you do all the homework and group work, you will pass this class (you can keep turning the home/group work in until you get a 100%).
Be prepared for a ton of work outside of class. She gives multiple readings and question sets each week that eat up your time and don't help you at all. The readings aren't addressed during class either. Class sessions focus more on useless group work than anything and she tends to go off on tangents about related, but not significant, topics.
You just need to be doing all the work to get a good grade in this class. I would highly recommend her as she only has quizes and no tests plus she lets you have credit on group assignments!
I loved Dr. J. Your grade in the class is 50% assignments (which are based on readings, and you get like 5 attempts per assignment) and 50% quizzes. To learn the material, it takes a lot of time outside of class because she barely lectures. She usually covers like 30% of what will be on the quiz in class. There is also lots of group work in class.
She made the class completely based on busy work. She didn' teach much, so you can't really learn. Basically every other genetics teacher is leagues above her. If you struggle to focus, this is the wrong person to take, since the class feels all over the place. It makes it hard to focus, especially with group work.
DO NOT TAKE GENETICS WITH THIS WOMAN. Lectures have nothing do with work assigned outside of class or quizzes themselves. You WILL have to teach yourself everything. She is very accessible but that's about it.
do not take her . you will have to spend a lot of time outside of class to learn the material. all she does is stand there and stare at you. no notes, no powerpoint, nothing. her class is more like a office hours however if you dont come you lose points. its so trash. and her tests are hard, no relation to the homeworks at all
Be prepared to teach yourself everything and spend an excessive amount of time on unrelated reading + homework. During lectures you do useless group work and not much else. Also often enters grades incorrectly and she is defensive/passive-aggressive when she's asked about it. Only good thing about the class is there's no final.
You read a few paragraphs/watch a video and answer a bunch of questions. Sometimes the questions are really hard. There are also a bunch of math equations you need to do. Not to mention all the work on excel you'll have to do. Due dates for work are all over the place. Google will probably teach you more about excel than this professor.
Dr. J is a great professor! Bio is a tough class, but the readings are not at all too heavy. You have maybe 3 readings per week, which didn't feel like too much at all. Dr. J was more than accessible and offered time to meet if needed! Her lectures take some getting used to, but GO to class. I rec taking paper notes! But I had a great experience!
Dr. J's quizzes are not easy. They don't cover an equal amount of material from the study guide--rather she makes questions out of what she finds most interesting. However, she is available by email and office hours. She wants her students to succeed, she just has a weird way of showing it. Meet with your preceptors! They're more helpful than her.
Dr. J's passion for her topic is very evident, and the content itself is interesting, but the assessments are completely erratic. No matter how much you study, there's no way to predict what she's going to ask. It's worse that your grade almost entirely depends on them. At least she offers retakes but be prepared for her quizzes.
You can tell Dr. Jennings is passionate about what she teaches and I really enjoyed her class. The harsher reviews on here don't make much sense to me personally, but obviously this is a matter of preference! There are a lot of grades for this class and most canvas assignments have no due date and multiple attempts.
When it comes to Jennings, it's pretty evident of her interest in the topic of evolution, but her qiuzzes are extremely difficult. She makes them morning of and when you ask her questions in class about topics, she almost seems annoyed and is beyond passive aggressive. There's a lot of group work so hope you get a decent group.
Easy A class, 50/50 %s for assignments and quizzes. Do your readings, q sets, and go to class. You only need 80 percent on quizzes to get A in class. There are 3 retakes for 6 quizzes, which is exact same quiz. Go to office hours to see check what was wrong on quiz. Amazing professor.

Jennings for quant bio was the easiest class/prof to take. All were quizzes (online w/notes), group projects, and summative assignments. If you do the work you'll get an easy A! We always met every Wednesday's and you need to complete the assignment before. She let's you retake all quizzes and assignments for you to succeed. Take her!!!
Do not take her class is you have other classes that demand a large time requirement because you are expected to know in detail everything on the readings. If you really pay attention to the readings, take notes, and participate you will not find it difficult to receive an A in the course. Teamwork is also a large part of the grade.
Easiest Quant. Class!! Lots of group assignments so beware. You have to show up to class to get a grade for the in-class assignments. Graded the assignments out of 20 and was really annoyed about it (if it wasn't perfect then you would get a 1/20). But was very lenient about assignments. DON'T FALL BEHIND ON YOUR MODULES!!
Do not trust the ratings. She was one of the best professors I had ever taken class with. New technique of teaching which provides such a peaceful environment in class. She had 6 quizzes in total and no tests. Retake one out of each 3 quizzes. Go to her office hours. Talk to her if you're struggling, she is very understanding and caring.
the class is mostly group work related the whole semester with a lot of assignments and quizzes and readings but it is not too hard to get a good grade in the class at all
Jennings is probably the best professor to take Quant if you are interested in taking it over the summer. You can do the work at your own pace, you have multiple attempts on Question sets, no tests/quizzes & most of the answers to questions are found in the text. Have good time management & read the lectures!! & you will get an A.
Has a "reverse classroom" where you learn outside of class with HW assignments on Canvas (usually a video or reading with questions). Rarely lectures in class; instead, puts you on teams to do group work most classes (you stay with the same team all semester and can request teammates). No tests & no final, just quizzes and you can retake 2 of them.
Very easy class as long as you take notes on the reading. Half the final grade were "checkpoint" assignments to see if you have mastered the reading, and then the other half was 6 quizzes spread throughout the semester. Class time was spent doing group assignments with your team to solidify the knowledge in your head. Easy A
I personally didn't really like Dr. J's class. It wasn't very beneficial to attend class as she never lectured but attendance was mandatory so I had to go. However, she is a very nice person and it is an easy A as long as you do the work.
Her classes were mostly group projects which made it easy to stay engaged and gain an understanding of topics. She assigns a lot of work through canvas but if you do them thoroughly and stay on top of it, it's easy work. She allowed late work so it's easy to catch up even if you did fall behind. She also provides lots of help outside of class.
One of the best professors in the bio department and genuinely cares about your success. Also provides an appropriate amount of work and is aware that students are busy. Very flexible with late work.
Jennings is very lenient with due dates, but that's the only good thing I can say about her. She's very unprofessional as she gets emotional and whiny often. Also, it's hard to miss a class because a good portion of your grade is based on group worksheets. Her quizzes and assignments are also filled with tedious-worded questions.
This was honestly the worst class I have ever taken. It is all group projects and the quizzes come from no where. You essentially have to teach yourself the entire class. Do not do it!
I despise this class. The professor shows up every week with a 5-10 slideshow prepared of pictures of animals and random images. No notes. No material on the slideshow. She rambles for a bit and then leaves you to the rest of class to "group work." Once complained that she doesn't like lecturing because of her ADHD. Awful and did not learn anything
Flipped classroom, do all assignments and need 79-80 quiz average for a A with 100s on all assignments (usually have multiple attempts- DO THEM). Weekly modules have study guides which are the most helpful to prepare for quizzes (no tests and only 6 of them- one about every 2 weeks) Can retake 1 of the first 3 and 1 of second 3 (Retakes- same quiz)
Dr. Jennings is a professor that aims to make you learn through working together with others. For her class, make sure to actually participate in class, it counts as attendance and it helps with the tests. She gives the opportunity to retake 2 tests which definitely helps, but only if you do decently on your first attempts for all tests. Work hard.
Her teaching style may not be for everyone, personally I prefer lectures. Very group work heavy; at times it seems useless but you still had to be present because it was a large portion the grade. She's flexible, all hw had multiple attempts + 100% credit for late work. Can retake 2/6 quizzes (same questions). Assignments and quizzes are both 50%
Engaging class with lots of group work. Easy A if you do the readings and assignments on Canvas. Helpful professor who provides support outside of class. unstuckstudy ai was a great study tool alongside the class resources.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! her grading scale is weird 50/50, and her quizzes are unnecessarily worded weird and hard. There is no way to save your grade if you struggle. It is VERY team work heavy, there is never one correct answer on the quizzes. She doesn't lecture. AVOID!!!
Dr. Jenning's class is tough but manageable. Grading is 50/50, no final, and you can retake 2 quizzes. Most learning is on your own, with classes focused on group work. If your group is bad, you're in trouble, but revisions help. Follow the study guide and take good notes. I struggled but I'd still recommend her unless you prefer lectures.
Dr. J doesn't lecture in class, you will do most of your learning by yourself through modules she posts. Do not take her class if you aren't good at teaching yourself. You will do a lot of group work. Dr. J may seem strict on first impressions, but she's very nice and helpful. Quizzes can be hard, go to office hours and study and you'll be fine.
I loved this class! Dr. J was an amazing professor who made a lot of concepts that never made sense in AP biology click for me. She does give a lot of readings, but they're all quite digestible and don't come from a textbook. There is NO FINAL and you can retake 2 of the 6 quizzes. There's also no late work penalty! 10/10
Dr. Jennings was one of the worst professors I have had at vcu. One of her class terms was, "Lecturing doesn't work for everyone so I won't be doing it." She posts tedious online homework assignments everyday and links to youtube videos with the expectation that you completely teach yourself. She did not bother to lecture at all. Not worth it.
Dr. Jennings doesn't lecture in class (I personally like the lecture-style teaching), and the homeworks seemed to be ahead of the material which was being taught, which made it more difficult. Overall, if you study for the quizzes and tests you will be fine, but the material is certainly challenging.
She is very chill and understanding. She barely lectures; it's more group work, so it's harder to learn. She doesn't give a final exam or tests, only quizzes every two weeks. There are many TAs there to help you. She lets you meet her out of class to go over anything you're stuck on. She actually cares and wants you to pass
This class was one of my favorite classes I have taken. We did so many different learning styles that learning the information became fun. She did have a lot of online assignments, but if you use all the attempts and do them on time, then it's extremely easy to succeed in this class. Focus more on understanding the material than memorizing it.
Not good at teaching...but, as long as you go through the study guides before each quiz you'll do fine. The hardest part about this class is listening to her voice...50% of what she says isn't related to biology and rather her trying to teach a life lesson or something. "There is a reason for everything I do" - like 50% of what she says each class.
