easy but very very boring!
Great teacher, but it may have been that I loved the content.
Not as easy as everyone says, but relatively easy compared to all the other really hard psych teachers. Anyways, she knows what she's talking about and if you study you can do well on the tests. You just have to make sure to pay attention to detail. Anyways, she's a nice lady and has a cool accent.
She's a really good teacher. She also gives a lot of examples to further clarify what she's explaining. Sometimes it can get a little boring but overall it's a good class.
Nice lady... As long as you study her notes from class you'll be fine on the tests.
Nice lady, good teacher, cool accent. Study the notes she gives you online and you'll be fine.
She was an interesting lecturer and made class interesting when I decided to go. Her tests are fairly easy if you read the material. Her accent is hot too.
I found the lectures enjoyable and yeah an easy A to be sure as long as you pay attention in class and go over notes before the test. text book completely unnecessary
This class is an easy A. Either go to class and study your notes or skip it and read the textbook before the test. Either way, you ought to do fine on the tests.
Took two courses w/ her. Boring lecturer who can't adequately answer a question; didn't seem terribly knowledgeable outside of what the book told her. Stick to reading the book and you'll be fine; extra credit is also easy to attain.
Good Teaching. Test were somewhat difficult. Go to class and you will be fine.
She takes attendance and it's part of your grade. The tests are kind of specific, but as long as some studying is done it isn't bad. She has an interesting accent and lecture is the most important part of the class. She offers 4% extra credit to add to final grade.
Must read the chapter summaries at the end of each chapter! I skimmed through the text and read the summaries over and over. She takes attendance. Drops lowest test or replaces lowest with final. Do the extra credit experimentrix offered. 1 hour = 1% on OVERALL AVG! up to +4%. I did all 4% and it got me an A in the class. Tests are MC but tricky
Teaches well, but not always what is on the test. The book is really good and explains well. Use that as he basis to study. The tests are hard, but she does lots of extra credit, and makes it definitely doable to get an A if you put in the work.
Go to class, do the work, read the book, and a good grade is easily yours. Likes to test on material from BOTH readings & lectures, so cover all the bases. Not bad lectures and likes to use examples to make it more interesting and relevant.
Ok for an intro-level course I guess. She didn't seem to have the lectures planned too far in advance and didn't follow the outline on the syllabus. Multiple-choice tests are way too tricky and even if you know most of the material, you're not guaranteed an A. 4% extra credit, easily done, so do it. Pay attention in class and you should do fine.
She's a rather interesting teacher and her accent makes for interesting lectures. Make sure to take notes and READ THE BOOK. Reading the book helps a lot although it's not necessary to make the grade. She gives 4% extra credit just for doing assignments. Pay attention, do the extra credit and study and you'll be fine.
This teacher contradicts herself all the time and will not negotiate with you even though you work your butt off in that class.
I found Dr. Leader to be very unorganized and she moved very quickly and did not explain the major concepts. If you have good TA I recommended seeing them a lot otherwise the class is hard and you will not understand the material well.
Class is more difficult than I thought, but I still got a B without putting much effort into the class. She has grad students teach a couple of the lectures. She is fair and approachable. She has an online chat the night before the test to answer questions.
Dr. Leader is not the best person when it comes to relaying understandable material. I read the book and attended every lecture, taking notes and paying attention but the tests were overwhelming and very tricky. We only had 3 tests in that class and a final to make up our grade. I wouldn't suggest taking her class unless you are great with psyc.
Dr. Leader's intro psych class is interesting and made me appreciate the field a little more. She gives great examples of the concepts so they are easier to understand. She has an interesting South African accent that's fun to listen to as well. Test questions can be tricky but if you study you'll be fine! Take her class! :)
She is a very nice instructor, and has many extra credit opportunities- up to 4 points on your final grade. If you study and attend class, you should be fine. I made an A.
She's a great lecturer, but apparently has the hardest PSYC 1101 class.
Very good lecturer, stimulated my interest in the subject. Class is easy if you show up and pay attention.
Leader is a fantastic professor, hands-down. Sure, the homework may be a bit tedious, but she has piqued my interest in both courses I've taken with her. I hope I'm able to take another one of her classes.
She was kind lady. To succeed you should read the chapters and then do the homework. This will improve your recall better, so that you can succeed in the class. Tests were not too bad; some tricky questions, made B on most of them. She gave 3 extra credit points for research experiments.
Thick accent, but still understandable. Lectures are useless if you want to do well on tests, just study from the book. She does not give papers, long HW's, or quizzes like other professors do, so if you don't want to have to work a lot outside of class, take her. 90% of the grade is exams though, so making an A is hard with her, so be careful.
Dr. Leader was great. Her class wasn't a huge work load. It was a great break from tougher STEM classes and an easy A honestly. If you go to lectures and use LaunchPad before tests you'll be fine. There is also extra credit opportunities that are easy.
Lectures don't include all testing materials, so make sure you at least skim the chapters in the book and do the optional activities (they're helpful and a good review for tests). Very nice and reasonable.
Maybe I'm just terrible at psychology, but this class was eh. Test questions are all application questions, so that makes it hard. Even if you memorize everything, it's hard to do well in her class.
I took Dr. Leader for psyc 1101. Because the class was so large, I only talked to her once or twice. Easy to just read the book and get an A / high B on tests. Lectures are good for reiterating this info. Also good to know what'll be on the tests - she didn't follow the syllabus completely. Definitely a great professor!
I found lectures to be rather boring, and the powerpoints didn't tend to follow a logical order. Eventually I just started reading the book during lectures because I found I had to read the book on my own time anyway. However, if you read the book and study a little bit, her tests are a fair assessment of the information in the book.
Loved Dr. Leader. Her South African accent makes it interesting to listen during lecture, and she wants you to do well ( but said 'she won't work harder for your grade than you'). Makes the subject interesting, and so it makes it easy to pay attention and do well. Reading helps , but I didn't find the workload to be really difficult.
No pop quizzes, so the tests are worth a huge chunk of your grade. Her lectures are usually boring and don't help much with the tests- if you read the textbook, you'll be fine.
Dr. Leader is a good choice for PSYC 1101. Her lectures are often interesting because she often uses videos and activities, but expect a lot of PowerPoint lecturing. Tests were multiple-choice, and homework was through an online system called InQuizitive; you can always get 100% by doing enough questions (at least, when I took the class).
Good teacher who has relatively engaging lectures. A slight bit harder than the other PSYC 1101 teachers, but she makes sure you actually UNDERSTAND the material, and don't just have it memorized. As such, the tests check for comprehension, not just memorization. Also has 3% extra credit.
I found the course quite easy. If you are someone who can easily retain material by reading a textbook and doing homework, take this course. Attendance is checked for end of year bumps but not graded. Extra credit opportunities abound. Tests are fair, and easy if you give any effort towards studying. Highly recommend doing the Inquizitive to study.
Dr. Leader really tries to be entertaining during her lectures. Shes obviously very passionate about what she teaches, and it shows. She takes attendance during lectures, so make sure you show up because its factored into your grade. A lot of opportunity for extra credit. Easiest A Ive received.
Dr. Leader is amazing! She sparked my major interest in psychology. She roasts sometimes but only when people are asking for it. Very polite and tests are reasonable with a minimal amount of studying. As long as you read and show up to lecture, you'll be fine.
Very clear lectures. Lectures and attendance are not necessary, but don't skip if you want participation points. Very nice professor. Lots of extra-credit opportunities. Barely any homework (around one case study per week). Easy A if you just read the text and go over outlines before exams.
Dr. Leader was a good professor who had very clear lectures and specific grading criteria for the course. If you went to lectures, she basically went over the concepts that we needed to know for the tests. However, my main gripe was that lectures were often very boring and dry which makes me not want to take another psychology course here.
Ms. Leader is one of the nicest professors I've ever had, and she is also happy to help outside of class if you have any questions. However, I am not very good at memorizing and found her exams to be EXTREMELY difficult. Her exams are a mix of textbook material and lecture material, and so get ready to read lots of pages in the textbook!
Her class was an easy A and quite interesting. Tests were quite easy, a lot of the questions would be easy to answer with a minimal understanding. Lecture isn't mandatory but is probably necessary if you want to guarantee an A. Homework isn't overwhelming and actually helps with understanding the material.
I really enjoyed this class, she really helped to communicate more difficult or complicated concepts efficiently and simply.
First, the textbook is an absolute must for this class. Dr. Leader's lectures weren't mandatory; however, she takes roll each class in case if someone asks for bonus points towards their grade she can reflect upon the roll to see your participation. The tests are heavy and she doesn't provide past exams as references, but gives study guides.
Genuinely passionate. Tries to make her lectures as interactive/not boring as possible. A very fair grader, and gives lots of opportunities to help your grade, so one failed test won't doom your grade. She also is very open to student feedback. If you put in the effort, you will get an A. Personally, I loved her as a prof and a person.
She was such a caring, kind person, who is willing to make things fair for students. She even answered questions during the test when I was completely lost. She listens to our feedbacks. This class is definitely textbook heavy, so if you read the textbook and pay attention during lectures, getting an A is not a problem.
She's sweet. Her accent is a little difficult to understand but she really cares, and her lectures are interesting.
Tests are worth 75% of our grade, and there are 3 tests that count, so be mindful of that. I found that lectures were so boring that I couldn't even fall asleep if I tried. She genuinely cares about the subject matter that she's teaching, and is knowledgeable, but she fails to pass this passion on to her students.
Class is not hard if you aren't afraid to memorize a few terms the night before a test. I read the textbook and took notes, and I got A's on the tests, but the terms can be confusing, so studying is necessary. She offers 2% extra credit. SONA experiements required. In class, she was good at explaining things, but take notes if you want an A!
Grade is essentially based on tests. She will decide to change how she does her grades for whatever reason so you could potentially get screwed over at the end of the semester.
Dr. Leader is so nice and obviously cares about her subject. She gives plenty of extra credit chances, also her test questions are straight from the book.
Dr. Leader did not care about this class at all, and it was very evident. Although she may be passionate about psychology, she clearly doesn't care enough to start class at any time before 10 minutes past the supposed start time. Also, she constantly cancels class, cannot figure out the simple technology, and is dull. All I learned was from the hw.
Lectures consisted of slideshows. Each test is 25% of your grade, but you have 4 (including the final) so the lowest doesn't count. The tests seemed harder than the material we learned in class. Dr. Leader is a very sweet lady, but I struggled a lot with this class despite it being an introductory course.
Leader is a great teacher, especially for PSYC 1101. The class revolves around 4 tests (including the final), and one of them can be dropped (all multiple choice). There is tons of extra credit; if you do the homework, come to class, and review before the tests, you will get an A for the little effort you put into the class.
I had to take 5 exams. Homeworks were unbearable and very long. Reading is required but only certain, small portions of each chapter are tested (she doesn't tell her students each). Her lectures are soooo boring. She literally stands in front of the classroom and talks in a monotone voice to a powerpoint slide. Very sweet lady but I don't recommend
Dr. Leader is great, especially if you're pretty good at remembering what you've read. Her lectures are usually boring and kind of unnecessary, but there's a participation grade. Tip: read the chapters covered before the test, skim the notes. I got an A with that strategy and didn't struggle at all. Learned more than I expected. Great, easy class.
Dr. Leader seems like a sweet professor, but she's very dull and her lectures don't teach you anything. She skims through the tests and you're required to read the rest of the reading by yourself with no guidance. I would not recommend taking her class if you want to have a caring professor that remembers your name.
I highly don't recommend taking Dr. Leader's class. She's sweet, but her class is a lecture everyday and the class is only tests. She puts information on tests that is not reviewed in class and doesn't clearly explain questions. Her class was the worst and not enjoyable at all. Seems like an easy class to pass, but it's far from that.
Dr. Leader is one of the best professors I've had at Georgia Tech. She is so caring, her lectures are very interesting, and it's the perfect work load. She is super accessible and is literally one of the sweetest people I've ever met. She really cares for her students. Attendance is mandatory but going to class is always worth it!
She's a nice and caring professor, but she always seems to get off on tangents irrelevant to the class. Grade is composed almost solely on the test and final exam. It is essential to read the book as her lectures do not cover all the material she expects you to know for the tests.
I feel like Dr. Leader gets a lot of unnecessary hate, but I found her to be one of the best lecturers in all of my classes. Her lectures are interesting and engaging, and if you attend all classes and pay attention, there's no need to freak out about her tests. She also gives lots of extra credit opportunities!
I loved Abnormal Psych with Dr. Leader. She is very thorough and gave good insight into the disorders' cause and treatment. Her class is lecture and test heavy. Although she takes attendance every day, it was 1% of the grade. I'm a Psych major, so I really enjoyed it, but I can attest that most people that showed up were watching netflix...
The most boring lectures I have attended, ever, I found it impossible to focus. It doesn't really make a difference as the tests are based on the book and as long as you study from there you can get an A (I actually got better grades using the book than my lecture notes). The tests are not hard and there's extra credit but prepare to read the book.
Fall 2019. 90% of grade came from tests, which weren't easy. Focused on application rather than terms/definitions (re: not an easy A). Dr. Leader is a really sweet lady, really enjoyed listening to her teach, but the grading system was pretty harsh. Good bit of extra credit.
If you have to take Abnormal Psych for pre-health, she is a fine professor to take it with. Lectures are very tedious and almost impossible to pay attention to. Content is fairly interesting. Grading is very fair, extra credit is somewhat generous and incredibly easy to knock out in a few hours. If you try you will probably get an A.
I really enjoyed her lectures. She is fun to listen to (I love her accent) and she also has great guest speakers. I learned a lot in her class. I would definitely take her again.
Definitely one of the worse professors I've had at Tech, her classes were really boring as evidenced by class attendance. Assignments were monotonous and easily found online, exams weren't an accurate indicator of what was on the textbook. She expects you to attend lecture and gives out a lot of information in lecture that isn't on her slides/text
Professor Leader is a really incredible professor. She is extremely caring about her students and understanding when it comes to assignments. COVID posed a lot of challenges this semester, but she made sure that this class was not a burden and made it possible for us to succeed. Highly recommend taking her for any psych class!
I enjoyed Dr. Leader's Abnormal Psych class, although technology posed a challenge for her during COVID. We often spent the first 20 minutes of class troubleshooting problems, and were very behind for most of the semester and had to cut out chapters of content, which I was looking forward to learning :(. She is very caring, knowledgeable, & kind!
She's a very sweet and caring professor who tries her best to make her lectures interesting. That said, they can be boring, but the content itself wasn't too hard. Most of the grade comes from tests, but she allowed a 1 side crib sheet. On top of that, there were many extra credit options. Overall, she's a pretty solid choice for Psyc 1101.
Prof Leader is such a good professor. During the pandemic, she taught me how to use Quizlet! I learned so much Quizlet from her!
Prof Leader was a pleasure to be taught by. Her class was an easy A in my eyes and I liked learning more about psych. It is possible to get a good grade without attending lecture, but she is a really intelligent lecturer and I would recommend listening! I would definitely recommend her class - you learn a lot and can do well with low/medium effort!
Very kind and engaging
Worst professor I have had at tech. Took this class because I heard it was easy as everything was online. Starting this Spring semester, everything was in person. Arrives at lectures 15 min late every day, extremely unorganized, talks so slow, is awful with technology, posts important announcements after midnight. I had to study v hard for tests.
She spoke kind of slowly, but that isn't even that much of a complaint. She was clearly interested and engaged in the material that she was covering. She was also quite understanding with technical issues and student stress, offering the occasional deadline change, etc. Overall a pleasant experience for an out-of-major intro class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! She is constantly late to lectures and sometimes doesn't even show up. The team teachers are better than she is and her teaching style is bland, bleak, and dreadful. This class was way more work than it should have been and I hated every minute of it, I would recommend trying to find another teacher.
Dr. Leader is a sweet lady, but her slow-speaking, soft spoken nature makes lecture pretty disengaging and hard to pay attention during. Course has lots of extra credit built into it, but exams tended to have questions that were quite vague or were about the most insignificant little detail from the content. Relatively easy workload overall though.
Not awful, but not great. Regularly showed up late or notified the class that the class was canceled 15 minutes after the lecture period began. Class attendance is practically mandatory since lecture slides are barebone outlines. Tests are heavily concept based with limited practice given. She struggled with technology frequently too.
Always late. Never uploads the PPT and if she does they're not the right ones. Showing up to class is the same as not going. Sitting through lectures is nearly impossible due to boredom. Tests are really hard, regardless of attendance and amount of studying. Gives extra credit to make up for the lack of material learned throughout the course.
Professor Leader is a very frustrating professor. Her tests are difficult and are heavily concept based. Her lecture slides are bear and have very little information on them. Her lectures are very boring and dry, and she gave a "curve" on a test, which was just adding two points to your test grade. Find an easier professor for this intro class.
Dr. Leader is very sweet, but she speaks very softly, and her lectures are very disengaging and hard to follow. Her tests can be pretty tricky. When she uploads the PowerPoint, she won't upload the right ones. I go to class pretty often and did okay on the tests but I would find a professor that is more engaging.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. On top of the other 2023 comments posted, her tests have very little to do with her lecture content, which has little to do with the textbook chapter, so there is no good way to prepare. Also, her homework and post-chapter practice quizzes are concept centered while the tests are application centered.
This professor is extremely boring and her tests have random questions that barely even appear in the textbook. Her lecture slides have no information and going to class will put you to sleep, the only thing that helped was her TA who had to make review videos and slides with more information than the lecture slides so we could pass. Don't recommend
Lectures were very boring and did not prepare me for the exams, which were extremely challenging. I had to self-teach the entire curriculum to myself, which was very time consuming. The only reason this review isn't worse is because your lowest test score is dropped and there are plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
Dr. Leader was a very sweet and caring professor. Her lectures were more traditional, with her explaining the content on the slides to the class. Homework is done through macmillan learning which was a $100 online textbook.
If you are a not a psych major or don't have a vast knowledge of psychology, do not take this class. This class requires a lot of studying and sometimes it doesn't even help because the exams are on things she sometimes doesn't cover in lecture. Avoid this professor. The TAs aren't helpful because she doesn't communicate with them at all.
Dr. Leader is nice but she makes this class much more difficult than it needs to be. Her exams are often about topics not discussed in class. She is extremely unaccessible, as she rarely responds to emails. The TA's ended up having to fill a lot of these gaps, and they're the reason I passed the class. Take another prof!
Overall, the class was interesting, but her lectures were boring. I stopped going at some point but still managed to maintain an A average on exams. As long as you do the homework, case studies, and review the textbook and lecture slides before exams, you will do fine in her class.
Unless you are majoring in psychology, DO NOT take this class. Class averages on all exams were barely passing, which gives a perspective of how difficult the exams are. Class was also extremely unorganized and the course content can be uninteresting. One positive aspect of the course is that there is EC. Save your GPA and don't take this course.

Difficult course
This class kind of relies a lot on lectures, but they were hard to attend and pay attention to because they were just so boring. What a drag! Grades are also confusing because she wants us to use an excel sheet to calculate them so you are unsure of where you really stand. The assignments were easy to complete and were grade savers.
Professor Leader is a very nice and caring person and she is very accessible outside of class. However, her lectures for the online class were boring and hard to take notes on. Lectures were always more than an hour and long winded. You also MUST read the textbook. Also grade is HEAVY on test grade 70%!! Please save your GPA take another class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! Dr.Leader is a somewhat sweet person, but she treats this class as if you are all doctoral students. The smallest assignments can bring your grade down, and she won't ever let you know. There is a lot of homework and assignments, and you have to pay for the stupid textbook.
Dr. Leader is a great person, but not a great professor. She isn't tech savvy, so most things related to Canvas are relegated to her TAs. You have to pay for a textbook (which isn't that useful) and their homework system (which is awful). The exams are slightly unfair, since it's all multiple choice and so many of the answers look the same.
Sweet older lady and the content of the class was very interesting...Those are the only good things I can say. Her lectures are VERY boring. Her tests are hard. Also whenever a teacher won't round an 89.9 to a 90, I start to dislike them because I know if I was a teacher I would have no problem giving a 0.1 boost. If able, take another professor.
Dianne Leader is confidently the worst professor I have ever had. Her lectures were very boring and a waste of time. Her tests were SO hard and had nothing to do with what she taught in class. When she canceled class(very frequent), she would not post lectures and expect us to know the content. Save yourself, take this class with anyone but her!
Honestly....Lectures were very boring and I feel like didn't help for exams. The exams were very hard considering Psychology should be an easy subject. Textbook came in handy, but Dr. Leader would always fall behind schedule so not all material was covered before exam times.
Dr. Leader is very caring and knows abnormal psych. However, lectures are slow, and you really don't need to attend class to do well. The TA sessions before the exam (Nick) ARE AWESOME. Best study method is to just go to these. Overall, interesting class although very self taught.
Very easy class (abnormal psychology). take notes from the textbook and study those and the lecture slides before the exam. Also, study the homework before the exam. Her exams have stuff that was not talked about in class but is in the textbook so actually READ TEXTBOOK or use chat to take notes from it.
This class was very test heavy (70%) and the tests felt so different from homework and lectures. I genuinely have nothing against the teacher, but am off put by the difficulty of tests especially for an intro class. Studying felt futile. I had a terrible experience with this class and teacher, but to each their own.
Dr. Leader managed to take away all of my excitement for abnormal psych with her lectures. She was entirely inaccessible outside of class and would ghost you after asking for help. Her tests referenced things she would say once during lecture and then never mentioned again or put in her slides. Do yourself a favor, take any other psych elective.
Super sweet and content was extremely interesting. Slides are self-explanatory too. Tests felt more difficult than what we covered in class, though.
Super chill professor, but she definitely expected way to much out of us for an "Introduction to Psychology" (and made me HATE psychology if anything). Spent 20+ hours studying for each exam (which is crazy) despite being attentive; also exam questions had lots of ambiguity, and she shot down any exam contesting. Lectures were boring asf too.
Do not take this class! Dr. Leader was often late, canceled lectures, was inaccessible outside class, gave vague grading, had very difficult exams with unreviewed material.
Most boring lectures ever and genuinely could never figure out how to work online lecture even after the entire semester. Not worth it to watch the lectures, just do the in-class assignments and lock in for the exams. Heavy extra credit at the end of the course bumped up grades a lot (grade replacement and lots of extra credit assignment)
If you have the option, I strongly recommend NOT taking her class. She rarely responds to emails. Her exams are extremely detailed, covering material that was not addressed in lectures. I was excited to take this course because of my interest in psychological disorders, but that enthusiasm was quickly diminished by the way the class was taught.
I got a 95% in this class, and I received a B for my final grade, if that tells you anything. Dr. Leader is incompetent with technology. If you can't use technology, just use Canvas and PowerPoint, and have TAs calculate final grades. But Dr. Leader does not do that, and it caused repeated issues this semester that significantly penalized students.
