Talks too much. Grades way too hard, but is very thorough in explaining.

Don't take this prof! I strongly recommend Ruiz, or Roy! Lectures dont prepare you for tests which are graded unfairly. Used to teach at UCD so is not used to caring about individual students. take another prof for chem
Chem 400 (1A) is a very difficult class no matter who you take it with. There is never enough time in lecture to cover all you need, but she is thorough in lecture. Many people who complain about her are often the ones that skip lecture or don't study.
This is a tought class with a lot of work and she expects you to think, but she is very fair and caring. She is always available for extra help if you ask. Her tests are not easy but they are reasonable. She is a very kind lady.
great lecture, very engaging. the help she offers students outside class is awesome. looks for effort and improvement, not an easy A but youll be suprised how much you learn.
Excellent professor, she cares about her student's and is always available when extra help is needed. Her great sense of "Humor" is very welcoming in such a challenging class.
I do not recommend her for Chem 305. She is very hard and anal. She goes to fast and is always in a hurry. She hates explaining things twice. Take her if you do not have a life otside of school. She does not have a sense of humor, not funny at all.
use to love chemisrty until i had her class :)!
unclear but interesting
She doesn't play easy. While challenging us to think, we do have laughs. I think she could use some in class assistance for more one on one time with the students during lab.
I think she is a great professor. CHEMISTRY IS HARD NO MATTER WHO YOU TAKE IT WITH. I think those people who didnt have a good experience in her class was probably because they never went and expected to get a good grade. NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!!!
Overall I would say she is a good teacher. She teaches off powerpoint which makes it hard to relate concepts, but she does make herself available for help. I would suggest doing the beacon tutoring or a study group to help pass this class!
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD......DONT TAKE HER. YOU WILL DIE. SHE IS TERRIBLE, i Got an A in chem 400 with nancey ritez which is the hardest chem prof. but she is so STUUPIIIID. Dont take her, she does not care about chemistry and doesnt know al the answers and will make you loos interest in the subject.
This teacher plays favorites. Very pleasant if you're on her good side, but she singles out the students she doesn't like and tries to make them look stupid.
Meador is a decent proffessor. She knows what she is talking about and is very organized. She has a good sense of humor which enhance her presentations. I would recommend taking 401 with her, but don't you can't slack off.
Totally unorganized, always late, we didn't get most of our labs back until the day of the final! Ignores you if she wants to, basiclly doesn't respsect students. Easy content, no slacking, everythings online (which is BAD).
I took Ms. Meador fall 2004. She is very hard..No matter what Chemistry is hard anyways. She is not grading your homework assigments, she let some kids or whoever grade your homework assigment. So check your grade carefully. Her test is very hard.
Dr. Meador is an amazing professor!! She's very approachable and will make time outside of her office hours if you need help. With chemistry you have to have SOLID work ethic; if you fall behind, you're done.
Excellent professor...definitely has a university level teaching style...no hand holding and free answers or points...must work for and earn your A. This class will definitely prepare you for the typical four year college chem classes...this reallly is a college folks. Read the text and review homework prior to exams!
She is very helpful and cares about her students. Overall, she is a great professor!
I don't think she is a great instructor. she left a lot of homework. When you finished you homework online there insn't any way to know which of the question you were wrong.

I felt that she made the class way too hard for the subject matter. It seemed more like an advanced class. The tests were incredibly hard. When I had questions for her, she was unable to answer them in a way I could understand. If I could do it again, I would take it with a professor who understands the needs of beginning students.
overall i liked her i would say she is an average chem teacher. the one thing that i really was disapointed about was that she didn't turn back work for a very long time. 3/4 through the semester i hadn't got a single lab report back with is 1/3 the grade If teachers want to assign lots of work thats fine but i think they need get it back sooner
Excellent Instructor. Explains the key concepts very well and answers all questions. Works real hard to get work back to the students. Does awesome demonstrations.
Whoever wrote that comment below is retarded. Her lectures were not helpful. They were pictures from the book. She did not give us any work back which was completely unfair. Our grade depended heavily on our lab reports and even though the semester is over I have only seen the grades of 5 of them. How can a student improve without timely feedback?
Great teacher that knows what she's talking about. Her grading is unorganized because you never get back your work, but her tests are reasonable. Just do your work and the extra credit and you'll be fine. It's Chem 400, so don't expect any easy A
she is a good teacher, but she is kind of unclear and confusing about things. she also goes very quickly through sections that she should take more time on.
very helpfull
a good teacher. You have to work really hard in this class to get an A, so if you are not interested in chemistry it will be very difficult.
Diane was a great teacher and did a great job teaching a large summer class.
the most ANAL GRADER i've had. will take a lot of points of for stupid math errors (not cool). shes not a bad teacher but i didn't really like the power point presentations in class because pH calcs should be done on the board. thats what screwed me in that course and i ended up with a B.
this lady wouldnt even let me turn in a late homework assignment when i had to go to my uncles funeral, our first labs were returned to us more than half way through the semester, lectures were useless and didnt cover test material whatsoever, a horrible teacher
A very good professor, very helpfull to the students and makes lectures interesting with demonstrations. This class requires a lot of work to get an A, but that's good.
She was nice but the class has such a fast pace to cover all the material, you don't dare miss ONE class!
i love her, she makes it so easy, she explains everything perfect. and if not she is willing to help you understand. if you attend class every day and turn in homework and labs on time your sure to have an a, come on guys i never showed up never turned in homework and barely got any of my labs graded, and i still got a C.
GOOD TEACHING AND VERY HELPFUL
She is a terrible teacher. Her lectures are confusing, she does not return homework or labs in time for exams, and she will not go over the homework in class. She is also a very hard grader on homework, which kind of stinks since she won't go over the problems in class. Her lectures do not follow the book. I will NEVER take a class with her again!
Tough but knows her stuff; makes herself available almost 24/7 by email + lots of office hours; makes lectures interesting with many cool demonstrations. She's a fair grader but she's demanding.
She is an excellent teacher. Take this class if you have time to do all the required assignments. First she gives students a tough regiment of strictly graded assignments and exams, but at the end of the semester she gives tons of extra credits to compensate the loss from strictly graded exam and homework.
Meador is the type of prof who wants students to excel. Her work load was intense, her exams were hard, and I had no life other than chemistry... but I learned a lot. Definitely, give yourself 7 or 8 hours at least for hw and lab write-ups. If you have a full schedule already you might drown. Otherwise, very smart, helpful, and nice.
I highly recommend her. A very great teacher, helps you understand and comprehend the material as much as she can. Show some shortcuts in solving a problem. I'll take her again if she teaches OChem. Big on HW's, TAKE HOME QUIZ, and clean LAB REPORTS. Grades very fairly and straighforward, but its a really hard course.
Whatever you do, do not take her class. She is one of the worst profesors i have ever had. I got an A in Chem 400 and i will end up with a C in her class. She is not helpful at all. Her tests do not reflect what is done in class or the homework. On our last test the class average was 61%. I have never had such a hard time in a class
DO NOT TAKE this teacher if you want an A. Impossible to get a good score on anything. She takes lots of points off for every little mistake you make. If you are an A student you will ruin your GPA with this teacher guaranteed. She is nice but that's about it. Lots of homework and nothing really prepares you for the tests, they waste your time more
Subject itself is a not an easy one. Way better than brian weissbart. More helpful and easier to get points on the test and she prepares you better for the test.
She is very helpful. Her exams are hard, but practice worksheets help. Picky on Lab reports. HW require some time but are fairly graded. Its hard to get A in her class. But, she makes the lectures more helpful with lab demonstrations. I would recommend her. I enjoyed her class.
Meador is ok professor. She is helpful and fair. She takes out points for small things such as not boxing your answers (cmon now). Dianne can seem very mean sometimes, but she does not mean to hurt anyone. Do your work, turn things on time, dont be afraid to ask "stupid" questions... It is an easy A if you put some effort into your work.
Prof. Meador is great! She is incredibly healpful, funny, and understanding. This is a hard subject so if you don't put in the effort, it will be incredibly hard for you. I don't think it's fair of these people to come down on her just because they didn't want to put forth the effort. I highly recommend her!!
Do not take her. she has favorits, takes off points for silly things, like box answers. C'mon, if i know the topic, and my answer is right-there is no need to lower my grade. Sometimes she's mean.Ppl who got B,C in 400, got A in Zarzana's class & vice versa. I wish i took Zarzana.
I think someone should have told her in grad school that she would not make a good professor. Her goal is to find mistakes, not to teach. She would rather tell you what you did wrong then tell you how to get the correct answer. You goal is to change everything about yourself to be her identical mini version. I would not advise you to take her.
I got a high B in chem 400, but im failing this class. she is very very picky about everything. lots of lab work, and it has to be in the right order and she reads every little thing, she is crazy. super hard class and prof.
Save yourself and take Zarzana!! I got every answer right on a test but got a C- b/c she takes off pts for EVERYthing. ie converting minutes into seconds in your calc. but not putting it on paper =2pts off. I mean are you kidding? really? she obviously does NOT want ppl to pass her class. she thinks she is so funny, and shes really irritating.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. YOU WILL REGRET IT ALL SEMESTER. She makes me not like chemistry anymore and loves to show you where you're wrong at every chance. she belittles the students, says very snude remarks, when it is actually a very good question. If you didnt get an A+++ in chem 400. dont take her!!!
DO not take her class, it is a waste of time. Take a diff teacher,go to a diff college. anything. she is unhelpful, unmotivating, and not willing to teach in a way normal ppl can actually understand the material. for every single test the average was a D- . i couldnt believe it. shes not a good teacher and should find a way to help her students
I am an A student but I am dropping her course. If you are used to being in a responsible lab setting and expect (or require) order, direction, and a proper learning environment, then I suggest you look elsewhere.
i knw she has enuf bad ratings, but i wnted to post something just because she is SO BAD.She might seem like a nice lady but she does nothing to try to help students in the course. She takes STUPID marks off everything, doesnt curve any tests, even if the avg was a 68%, which is what happened to my class this semester.DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH HER.
do NOT take her. TAKE ZARZANA! Z is so much better you will thoroughly enjoy the class. If you take meador you will dread it for the rest of your life! SERiously!! shes an awful grader and an even worse professor. Someone should have told her a looong time ago that shes not cut out for helping students, and teaching .
401 is a difficult class, the volume and complexity of the material is daunting. These last few ratings are misdirected anger. Meador is a good professor, she is available to help far beyond what is required. She is also knowledgeable and relatively clear, what more could you ask for. This comes from a student that had to take the class twice.
Subject is extremely difficult! And there is a lot of work involved! With that said, Dr. Meador was the easiest professor to get ahold of for any ?s. I highly recommend her! You are taking a tough course anyways, might as well be with someone who is as passionate and helpful with chemistry as Dr. Meador.
Dr. Meador is organized and rarely covers anything that won't be tested on. She helps with questions on the homework and labs. You can always find her during office hour and replies to most of her emails quickly.
She is very nice and friendly. However, the class itself was very hard and time consuming. Lab keeps you mad busy along with her FULL page(s), front & back, of homework. It was like taking a 10 unit class. I loved chemistry until I took this class. Shesvery confusing. Try a different professor!
This is the only prof. ive ever had where she will grade a test so harshly that you end up with a C or D when you've done everything right, sure a few mistakes but...points off EVERY single question for sig figs, for units, instead of taking points off as a whole for missing them.Ask anyone in the chem hall, they will recommend Prof. Zarzana.
Professor is not very clear in teaching new concepts. She goes EXtremely fast, and I'm not exxagerating. There is no way to keep up with all of her work and her style of not really teaching it. I know chem is hard. I made it through organic chem., biochem, etc. But she has no idea how difficult she is making it on the students and needs to help the
Didn't care for this teacher at all. Shes a nice woman and can be seen in the chem hall frequently, but as a teacher I don't think she has quite gotten it that she needs to help the student's in a better way. Clas average for tests usually around a D.Not very good. Not very helpful and explained subject matter in a such a hard way.not comprehendable
Didn't really think this teacher was very helpful in trying to teach students new ideas or help them understand new material. She kind of just expected you to know it already. tests were EXTRemely hard! takes point of for everything little thing, and will take pts off each problem if you mess up units, not just points as a total
I didn't want to read her comments on ratemyprofessor until started going to the class. The first week was already crazy; this woman has no real order in how she gives you assignments. I hated the labs.. and the front & back, single spaced, busy work homework she would give us. Not to mention her grading.. O. M. G. This woman is unbelievable.
She is the best Chemistry professor ever. Forget about all the previous comments. Just do her homework and labs, you will be fine. Her exams are also relatively easy, which is reflected through a high class average.
Dr. Meador is an excellant teacher and a very nice lady. Forget it if you think this will be an easy grade, cause it won't. However, if you want to take a teacher that is passionate about what she does and genuinely cares about her students, and you don't mind a little hard work, I strongly recommend this teacher!!!
Brace yourself before considering taking THIS professor's class. At first I thought I was just being dumb cuz I could barely speak any English 4yrs ago but it turned out many of my classmates feel the same. If you don't read the material before coming to class then you're technically deaf for the whole 1hr and 45min of lecture.
While she may seem like a very math oriented teacher, you also have to know the concepts very well. This class is challenging, as it should be. She explains things efficiently. BE CAREFUL WITH SIGFIGS/UNITS! She is a tough but fair grader, and is particularly hard on labs. Puts lots of resources on D2L, but take good notes. Also, go to beacon!
Meador's awesome :) I worked super hard. That is all.
Awesome teacher! My favorite chem teacher so far! She is very thorough and prepares you well or exams. Do your homework and you will be prepared for exam. Beacon also helps. I highly suggest you take her to prepare you for other chem courses!! LOVE MEADOR.
Dr. Meador is a great teacher. She is very helpful when asking questions about the material. But, prepare to work really hard (as you should it is a high level class) and expect long days. Do the HW and readings, pay attn, and review when possible.
I was nervous about taking this class after reading some reviews on here. In the end, I'm glad I choose Meador. VERY helpful, smart, and dedicated professor. She can tell which students are lazy and which ones want to actually pursue a science major. If u struggle in this class, you may want to reconsider your major. If you're dedicated, take her
this class is difficult. it requires a lot of effort and hard work but meador makes it as interesting as possible. the labs are fun but she is very particular about her reports. watch your sig figs on homework! overall very good teacher but difficult subject
Meador is the most personable teacher I've come across. Be sure to do the work in the class. When you've got a question, don't expect her to just give you the answer, she'll want you to figure it out yourself. Lots of critical thinking, an amazing class. I changed my major to chemistry because of her. Fulfill your curiosity of chemistry with Meador
Personable, straightforward, might be dyslexic but whatever. am worried if this course will really prepare me for future chemistry courses. Alot of busy work is required for a decent grade, but the exams are easy, especially compared to Maddox CHEM 400
She is a alright professor but sometimes she can be really Confusing in lecture, not to mention that she grades every little thing like not putting a period at a end of a sentence. The thing that I hated was she lectured in lab and the lectured in lecture constantly and don't get me wrong sitting on those stools in lab is a pain in the butt. Also, don't forget ur sig figs she'll keep taking points of constantly. Overall she is a alright professor but she GRADES WAY TO HARD
Professor Meador is kind and helpful, but the class can be a challenge. She is well prepared and she offers you a lot of material to help with studying. Labs may contain lectures, and lectures almost always have a demo! Work hard and she'll help you along the way. I recommend her.
Professor Meador was amazing. The course had a lot more lecturing than previous chem courses I have taken because she lectured multiple times in lab. Being lectured for five hours wasnt fun but I learned an immense amount in her class. Definitely prepares you to go to a four year. You have to make her care about you and your grade by caring too.
Dr. Meador is very clear, both lecture-wise and with what her expectations are. She gives you all the material you need--very little outside reading is required if you pay attention and take good notes. Uses lots of demos and visuals. Extra credit for going to Beacon sessions, and they hand out practice tests!
I liked this professor. She is very passionate. Class isn't too hard.
Meador is a very nice professor who delivers content well and offers a lot of help. However, if you can't finish a 6 page moderately hard exam in an hour in 20 minutes, don't take her. No matter how well you know the material, your inability finish an exam will kill your grade.
Very work intensive, BUT it pays off when it comes to understanding the material. She is fairly clear when explaining concepts and determined to have students understand concepts. Beacon and study groups offer a nice e.c. bonus. Her grading does suck, she is very picky about what she is looking for.
She is one of the best professors I have taken. I have never even opened my text book. She is very clear and the exams are based on the lecture notes. She gives extra credit for being in class and extra credit for going to beacon. You will not get bored in her class. I just loved Dr. Meador. She is truly the best.
This professor seems really nice at first, but don't let her smile fool you. She makes up her own hw asgmts, labs, and exams. If you take her, be prepared to spend at least a week on one homework assignment and nights crying on why it is so difficult. I fee like I need a psych eval after this class. NOT RECOMMENDED!! Exams are NOT from notes!!!
Professor Meador is not only amazing as a teacher, but as a person too. She really cares about you doing well in her class (has personal meetings with you after tests) and she's excited about the material and it shows. Use office hours and ask a lot of questions because she has so much to knowledge offer!
No grey areas with her. You get exactly what is in the syllabus.
While I tended to dislike Meador and her tough examshigh standards during the time I took the class, I ended up appreciating the fact I had her. I am in O-Chem right now and the concepts she taught, as well as the work ethic I ended up developing in order to pass truly stuck with me. While her class is quite difficult, it's definitely worth it!
she is a very hard teacher to pass: hard homework, hard tests, and hard grader. I wouldn't recommend her if you are not into mathematics, her class is more math then chemistry based.
Almost always had demos for better understanding concepts. Posts practice exams almost exactly like the actual exams! Get ready to do a lot of math-based HW.
I love chemistry, and she explains well and demos every lecture. But, exams are just brutal. You would think she would show mercy at least for the final as most teachers do. But no. She will smile at you in the hallway but yell at you in the lab if you make a mistake. I was SO close to a B, did all the extra work she assigned and still got a C!
If I could give a 0 I would. She is horrible. She'll mark you down alot of points on the smallest things ever. She has super complicated homeworks and labs that she makes up herself and her exams are longggg and super super complex. If you don't finish them, she'll just tell you to work faster next time. No symphathy at all. Avoid at all costs.
The principles learned in this class are actually simple, but I can imagine that it would be overwhelming if you don't have the motivation to appreciate the (many) different concepts like entropy, electrochemistry, equilibrium.... The homework was good practice for the tests and the textbook was a good resource. Labs were long but well organized.
When it comes to exams the questions are more complex than lecture examples. Feeling confident during the lectures doesn't get your anywhere. Also, she is terrible with returning labs/homework assignments. It is the end of Spring semester, the final is Monday and I still have 7 assignments that haven't been entered in. Feedback would be helpful.
This class was the hardest of all classes I took in my college career. 7 total HW (2 lowest dropped), HW is long and difficult. Lectures are interesting because of demonstrations, but the math part can carry you away. Chem401 is math-based; Exams are toooo hard for 1 hour and 20 minutes of time. Must study and go to tutors to understand material.
The homeworks are too hard and long, two dropped. Very tough grader. Exams are OK, you need to be super thinker. She doesn't hand the assignments back early. I have entered the final without any idea what is my overall, feedbacks are so important She doesn't give any extra time in the test, she literally gives 80 mins, no more.
Great professor. I learned a lot in her class. This class is difficult, but that's because of the material. Tests are long and challenging. As are labs. And homework. Go to her office hour if you need any help. She really cares and wants everyone to do well. There's extra credit.
Meador is an amazing professor and I learned so much. Redo the homework to help study for the exam. Treat them like practice tests. Also, go to Beacon. It helps a lot. She explains everything really well and is always available for extra help. She is very organized and there are no surprises. She also gives a grade bump at the end of semester 2-3%!
Pros: fun class, awesome accent, terrible chemistry jokes, she's extremely knowledgable and understanding , offers different formats of extra credit Cons: does not give enough space on exams and worksheets
Great personality & able to teach well HOWEVER SO HARD! My first science course at ARC (went to other los rios district campuses). She lectures and gives test during lecture period. In addition she lectures at least 2 hours in lab time on new material. The remaining time is for a short lab. Labs have roughly 12 analysis questions. Hw is handwrttn.
The class is difficult, but she is a great professor. She really knows her stuff and has a personality that keeps class from getting too monotonous. She grades labs pretty kindly. The tests are based on the lecture and lab material. There is a lot of math involved in this class. Always bring a calculator and a snack
Ridiculously thorough woman. I absolutely enjoyed her class, took all the stress out of Chemistry. HW's are very challenging, even more than tests. She explains labs very in depth. Beacon is extra credit. Never opened the textbook. Show up to class, ask questions, take good notes, practice!
I had a bad 400 experience, so Meader was Awesome for Chem 401. She explained everything extremely well, and prepared us for experiments beforehand. Very approachable. Homeworks are Killer, extremely hard, but if you do them they prepare you for the exam which always feels like we should have more than just 1:20 to do. Make sure you study, A LOT :D
I am personally not great at chemistry or math so this class was challenging enough. However, Meador took the time and helped me understand the material, homework, and lab step by step until I got it right. HW and lab is difficult. But know how to do them for the exam! (Tip: STUDY VERY HARD AND PRACTICE DIFFERENT PROBLEMS OVER AND OVER!)
This class is tough. The time commitment compared to other classes unreal. Understanding the concepts takes lots of practice. Dr. Meador is a great resource. She explains concepts very thorough and a great teacher. She makes herself available to help at all times and wont let you go until you understand. Be prepared to study hard.
She is math heavy so finish pre-cal before you take her. She is also very caring and will help before and after class. Make sure to go to beacon for extra credit also it helped me get through the class. Overall awesome teacher that helps for the students that try.
I love Professor Meador (even if she's a Packers fan). She is tough, but I believe it's because of the respect she has for chemistry. If chemistry is your major, she is the one. Easy A? Nope. Helpful, resourceful, encouraging, great personality and respected. If you're attentive in lectures, read the book and take notes, you should be good.
Professor Meador is difficult, but she prepares you well. If you want to do good on the exams, make sure you spend lots of time understanding every problem from the homework assigned. Every assignment is graded heavily. Try to time yourself and work on your efficiency to be ready for each exam.
She is nice and passionate. Her lectures are well organized and easy to understand. Expected lots of homework. Tests are hard and long but doable if you do all practice problem. Hard grader, take off point for small mistake. Fast grading and give good feedback. She makes you work hard for an A
Meador is an incredible person with an infectious passion for chemistry. This was one of 2 of my favorite class throughout my years at ARC. She's a tough grader but its very clear what she expects so if you're missing points thats from lack of preparation. I never knew how much I appreciated consistency and enthusiasm until I took this class.
An easy A in terms of conceptual material but only if you put in the work. She's very clear about her expectations and is readily available at office hours, but its a lot of work. The exams are tough, but just re-write your notes and do all of the practice exams 2+ times over and you'll get an A (I wish I started knowing this). I loved this class.
Doctor Meador was the best teacher. The tests were hard, but go to class and she gave points for attendance, graded very fairly if not easy, labs were very lax and she even cancelled a few. She was always available to give help to students so if you showed the effort then you definitely can get an easy A.
This was worst class of my life. Struggled the entire semester even though I'd consider myself good at chemistry. Her notes are a mess and are not helpful at all for homework and tests. Takes points off for tiny mistakes on everything. Went thru old material very slowly, which caused the class to fall behind. Rushed through the hard, new material.
Although she's usually nice, this class was terrible. She lectures through lab and break. She doesn't give you the homework until two weeks after she lectured it, leaving it harder to understand but is very vague when you come to ask for assistance. Her exams were not much like her homework or examples and they are really all that matters gradewise
One of my favorite professors! If you do bad in this class, you aren't working hard enough. Do all the homeworks and make sure you understand them. Do the practice exams and work on your timing. Timing is everything as you want to make sure you don't run out of time on the actual exam. If you can't do well in this class you aren't ready to move on.
I consider myself prtty smart, with Chem being the hardest subject for me, but I never expected to be THIS lost with a professor who has a doctorate. Lecture disjointed, confusing, and some times teaches incorrectly or has conflicting solutions. Asking her Q's does not help, and the HW is heavily graded, Exams are worse no matter how much u study.
Dr. Meador is the best for CHEM 401. Her lectures were organized and creative. She went through step by step for every lab and graded it fairly. To study well for this class, you have to read book, study notes, slides, do practices, and review homeworks. On exams, the more details you showed, the more points she gave that I am really thankful!
Prof Meador will make you work for it, but her class is not impossible. Pre-read before lecture, do the homework/lab assignments ON TIME, and work on every study exam/guide/worksheet that she gives you. You will be well prepared for the exam if you go over past homework and the study guides. She's very approachable and cares about her students!
Let me just say this; her class is not impossible :). If you want to get and A or B in her class, you have to work beyond any limits. Her tests are hard, but if you study for them well, do all of the practice tests and questions, you will definitely pass her class with an A. She is a nice person and very approachable.
Her grading is extremely tedious, but if you are a chem major, TAKE HER. She's respected and recognizes hard work. She lectures ALOT, but has a pretty clear way of explaining things. Chemistry is hard, it just takes practice, practice, practice.
She's a great professor, and you can tell she cares about students and wants them to succeed. That being said her class IS hard and you need to show up prepared, do all the hw (there's a LOT), and study for every exam if you want an A. She's flexible and approachable, just talk to her! You'll learn a lot and if you put in the work, it'll pay off.
She is great and really funny as long as you like corny science jokes. Lots of lectures but she anwsers questions and will clarify as needed but you have to ask or she keeps going. Always willing to help and gives lots of optional work and keys to practice the topics. She is very smart so have specific questions or prepare to be grilled.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. She's rude when you ask her for help (in lab & email), and she's extremely inconsistent with her grading. Almost all labs were not graded until the day of the final or after. I recommend utilizing a tutor, because she even states at the start of the semester she has a hard time connecting w/ students.
Professor Meador is an awesome professor. She responds to emails in a timely manner and hosts office hours frequently. There are also many different options to be able to earn extra credit. Also, she is very generous when it comes to giving partial credit during exams. The only thing I did not like was that she does not grade labs until the end.
She is an amazing professor. Great lectures and plenty of practice worksheets for the test. Her tests are not easy but there is never a surprise, do the worksheets and you will do fine. She is always available for office hours and responds to emails quickly. The only thing that keeps me from giving her a 5/5 is that she grades labs at the end.
She teaches very slow and does not make sense. Her teaching style is not the best in my opinion. If possible try to take another professor because staying focused in her class is hard because it gets long and boring.
Shes very caring, offers extra credit, and has lots of practice problems to prepare you for exams. I liked how she gave partial credit for almos everything. But make sure you work hard in her class because chemistry is tough overall.
CHEM401 is obviously difficult, but Dr. Meador is an excellent instructor. She's humorous and enjoys interacting w/ the class, definitely ask questions on ANYTHING you're confused on. Office hours are 2x per week (be prepare to ask questions), very generous with partial credit, online hw 2x per week (5 dropped). Lab reports are bit tough though.
CHEM 401 is a hard subject. If you really want an A, my advice is to take this class. Do the extra credit (SSC preferably for me). Ask as many smart questions as possible. Start labs early so you can ask about questions you don't understand. Review a little bit before each CHEM 101 homework assignment. Give it your all when studying for each test.
Her class can be demanding. She does hold office hours, but she can be very rude at the back. She should have more patience helping students. Her style of teaching needs improvement. She does go through lots of stress, but she does try her best to teach. I would find another professor.
The labs take hours/days to finish and she grades them so harshly (more than10+pages long) Exams r so difficult and grading is hard and does not reflect the lecture practices. She lectures so slow, starts sounding monotone. grading is so late and inconsistent so you won't know what u have in her class. Take with someone else.
Hard to follow the notes packet she has, best to take your own notes in notebook. Can come off as slightly condescending when you ask a question, but dont let that deter you away if you need this class. Has lots of practice problems on canvas and aktivchem. Also posts a lot of intership opportunities. Overall a good teacher.
Genuinely not sure why she's received good ratings here. Straight up not good at teaching and seems inconvenienced when students ask questions. Generally in a bad mood and has attitude. Be ready to learn on your own. Definitely NOT the professor to take for a difficult class such as this. Many, many hours doing lab reports. Be cautioned...
Some people are intimidated by Dr. Meador, but she is one of the nicest professors out there. You will come out of this class with a deep understanding of general chemistry. Dr. Meador is able to explain abstract concepts in simple terms. If you like having a deep grasp of the concepts, take her class. Some exams are tricky, so make sure to study!
I tried so hard for this class. Her lectures are incredibly slow! I cannot emphasize how slow she goes! She goes through so little practice problems and then her homeworks are much more difficult than what she covers in class. She will not grade lab reports until the near the end of the semester. The Beacon sessions and tutors are what saved me.
Professor Meador is a great teacher who provides ample opportunities for extra credit. The exams are challenging but with consistent practice and diligent studying, success is achievable. I received a C due to personal reasons, but with dedication and hard work, achieving a B or higher is easily attainable.
I would advise anyone reading this to not be intimidated by Dr. Meador. She is very kind and willing to teach you material outside class if you ask, but you WILL receive the grade you earned. There is 2% extra credit (30 points). There is no curve in this class. 1 HW assignment per week, grades really come from lab/exams. Work hard like in 400!
One of the very few professors that hands out packets for the lecture material. You just fill in whatever needs to be filled in as you follow along and it's much easier to learn as it keeps you that much more engaged. Very lenient with late work as well. If you have a busy schedule I definitely recommend taking a class with Professor Meador.
Professor Meador thinks you do not have any other classes. She gives weekly online homework along with lab reports due weekly and some weeks there are quizzes as well. Her exams are terrible as well. The free response questions are very very easy but every exam has 5-6 MC that are worth 4-5 points each, so if you mess up on MC you score poor. Run.
Professor Meador is approachable offers great lectures and is ready to help outside of class. Expect to spend 15-20 hours per week studying, also practice-practice-practice as the class is conceptually heavy and grading is strict with no curves. There is 2% extra credit, but it is very time-consuming, so focusing on the class grade is recommended.
Dr. Meador is fantastic!I would highly recommend her class. She's really nice and really wants to see her students succeed, and is happy to help however she can. This class takes time!Do and review the assignments, don't wait to get help,do beacon tutoring and go to office hours.Chem 401 is a serious course.Expect to spend a lot of time on everything.
Professor Meador's class is challenging but rewarding. Stay engaged, practice consistently, and utilize resources like unstuck study to excel. Her lectures are clear, and she's happy to help outside class.
Initially, Professor Meador seems a bit intimidating but she's more than willing to go above and beyond to explain concepts from lecture/lab to students, even going out of her way to set up meetings outside of class and office hours. Grades labs and exams fairly strictly but all criteria is outlined so just be sure to meet those standards!
This class itself is not bad I generally the lectures and lab however is very difficult and is regularly in a bad mood. It's almost impossible to ask her questions without any attitude. Quite mean DURING LAB if I do say so myself. She encourages you to ask questions but never really means it when she raises her voice at you.
I have to agree with the comment below. She is a terrible professor. She should retire.
In this course there's 4 exams, 1 final and occasional quizzes that are taken on Canvas. She also has one homework assignment due every week. Dr. Meador's class is tough and I wouldn't recommend if you have a heavy class schedule. She's very lenient on late lab reports, but her lab reports can take hours to do due to all the post lab questions.
Dr. Meador is extremely thoughtful and considerate of her students. She is not nice and does not make her class easy but gives every possible resource to get an A. She records all lectures and labs, has endless practice handouts/tests online, multiple review sessions for every exam, very clear and detailed grading rubrics and late work policy.
This is a stem class, it's hard, but she offers a lot of resources for students including office house (very helpful). Study really hard for exam 3. Take advantage of SSC for 2% ec. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS!! Regardless of her teaching, there is a lot of reliance on yourself to understand the material.
The absolute BEST!! The other reviews are unfair, she is an amazing chem prof. She offer 2% EC which is so rare and points if you show up to lecture will go towards exams. What she teaches in lecture will be on the exam and she's so willing to help. She's passive and slightly rude sometimes but that's honestly pushed to the side because of the pros
She's pretty good. Great person, alright professor. I think people might not like her because it's a hard class. Either way, any professor you take for 401 would probably be just fine, since it'll be a lot of self learning anyways. Take advantage of the 2% grade boost!
live recording of lectures so if you miss you can still watch at home. 15-25 HW questions a week. Notes are guided/fill-in style. Xtra cred avail. Lab reports can be lengthy. She's fun/makes jokes. Update: the semester is over half over and our class has maybe 3/12 total labs graded. Hard to predict actual grade. Her whole class is stressed out
Meador is nice, but can be passive aggressive. She lectures off slides and gives packets to follow along with. Often does demos with chemicals during lecture. Tests are not too bad, I recommend doing the Activ Chem practice problems to prepare. Lots of lab assignments. Not too bad, would take again.
Prof. Meador is nice, but the majority of your grade is the 4 tests (each 100 pts) and the final (200 pts). She does offer a lot of extra credit. She forgot to weigh our grades until 4 weeks ago, so our grade was not accurate until it was almost too late. She teaches as though we are chem majors and have a background in the material, which sucks :(
Attending lecture>watching the recording. 4 exams + cumulative final make up majority of grade. Exam grading is forgiving so show your work. Pro-tips: Asking on-topic questions helps. Lock in during Unit 3. Make study habits/groups sooner than later. Make summaries. Do practice problems. Don't underestimate the time commitment. Make a Discord.
