I had to drop this class after the first one, and I know some of you may think that's too soon to give a review but I promise you that you will regret signing up for his class. I am not the only one who dropped out of the first class because it was so boring. He is not passionate about what he teaches and is incredibly boring. Do not take him.
He has good intentions I believe, but his lectures are incredibly monotonous and he stutters a lot. I think he doesn't have a lot of experience teaching beginners. His explanations of major concepts are flawed as he tends to assume that we can remember everything we've been taught before (or that we have background knowledge on the economics).
I would avoid this prof. This is is first year teaching here and he was terrible. All he would do was read the slides. Nobody showed up to class. You will do better of you just stayed home and learned from yourself. Also, during his lectures, every time a student has their hand up, he would never acknowledge them.
He didn't seem to want students to succeed, and was quite harsh. He has in-class quizzes but sometimes would hand it out with less than 5 mins left for the class to end. Doesn't really engage the class, somehow made interesting subject material boring. It seems like he doesn't want to be teaching here, and the students kinda suffer for it.
Very monotone and makes class very boring. Not very approachable and does not offer much constructive and respectful feedback. You are better off learning from home than taking his class. Final was a joke though (very easy). Still, would not take again
Most people found his class boring but honestly, profs do not need to fun. He is fine, just not trying to interest you but gives you the information you need. His final was good, he gave us a large number of questions and said he would bring some of them. He delivered. I passed, I am happy.
I've had him for two classes and I already dread showing up. From what I've seen so far, he reads the slides verbatim and isn't passionate about what he's talking about. I think I'm going to be better off reading the book from home.
Mr. Diarra simply cannot teach. He barely reads the slides, doesn't engage the class and is not passionate about the topic at all. I'm sure he is great at research and writing articles but he shouldn't be teaching . avoid avoid avoid !
He's got good intentions and tries to explain but his style of teaching is very bad. It's hard to ask him for clarifications because he'll just go off on tangents. He messes up a lot of the time with the notes. Thank goodness the class material is easy otherwise it wouldn't have been fun.
This teacher is the worst I've seen so far. Avoid taking him unless u wanna die of boredom. He doesnt know how to teach he reads powerpoint slides that are posted and is even bad at reading them avoid taking him !
Worst teacher. Will show up to class only to read you the powerpoint word for word. You might as well stay home and teach yourself the powerpoint and save yourself the in-class monotone read-through. He clearly does not care, and will LITERALLY give everyone the same grade at the end just because he can't be bothered. 0/10 waste of your time and $.
If you follow the instructions and advices of this Prof at the beginning of the semester (for example completing the weekly tutorials and attending to lectures) it become relatively easy to get a good grade. This is what I did and therefore I"m happy with my grade of A obtained in this course.
I was happy in taking this course. Once you follow the rules of this course, everything becomes easy. However you must be ready to perform exercises every week. The class participation allowed me to have tips on how to prepare for the exams. I liked my exchanges with this teacher during his office hours because he is totally available and listening
Akin to listening to someone who half-assedly took a Level 2 English course and read up on Economics via a "For Dummies" book. I knew from the first lecture he was bad news. I've been attending my friends section and the teacher there is a life saver. Difference is night and day I'm really curious/concerned as to how he became a teacher.
He's really bad at teaching and his english is very mediocre. I attended all classes before the midterm but I couldn't understand anything from him so I ended up using my friend's account to listen to the online class which was much better than him.
He is a good teacher, high profesionality and availability. The course is very easy, it just requires constant practise and the attendence to his lectures is high recommanded. He gives the info you need and underlines the topics on which you might put your effort. He helps students in all the ways he is allowed to apply.
Even though his class seems boring, you'll get all the information you need to solve the exams and labs during his class. He takes the time to explain every single detail to ensure that everyone understands it. Would recommend him for ECON 201 and ECON 203!
English is mediocre at best.
i've been in this guys class for a semester now and i wish i could get this time of my life back. can't understand the dude whatsoever and when it comes to learning he could care less. sits at the front of the class looks at his computer and reads off the slides that he is set up with. he's always late and could care less about you. DO NOT TAKE
Lectures are completely pointless, he basically just reads off the slides (available online), but still manages to get things wrong fairly frequently. His English is pretty bad, but you can still understand him. That being said, if you do the online labs and skim through the textbook, you'll do fine.
He is so boring, you'd regret taking him. He just reads his powerpoints in class, does the most basic problems on board that would never be given in exam bcz of how easy the examples are. Don't waste your time taking him.
He's at McGill now. He spends 10% of lecture periods gloating about how amazing he is and why McGill wanted him for his work, 20% reading (monotone, stumbling) off of his slides, and the rest bumbling through technical difficulties. His accent is fine, but he is incredibly abrasive and defensive to students asking any kind of clarifying question.
Definitely not recommended as a teacher since he is not able to clearly express his concepts and keeps reading the slides without adding information. He speaks in a monotone voice and it's hard to ask him a question since he will answer with an incomplete answer.
Prof speaks very slowly and do everything slow. He replies to questions rudely as if the answer was obvious. Also, he keeps changing the course outline, such as adding an assignment. The presentation/assignment are extremely vague and if you don't do what he expected, he will roast you in the question and answer session.
Horrible.
Prof. Gaoussou is chill. BUT, I've never had as many long papers and homework as for this class. Quiz every week, 3 exams, (MCQS), group project w/presentation, & a longg report. He gave 5% extra credit which is really nice since you don't see that often! No midterm or finals. All the homework did make me learn A LOT about banking tho!
I have never left a review for anything in my entire life, but this time I had no choice! I have never seen a prof so disrespectful via e-mail. I e-mailed him because I had a question about my final grade (Dean had to be involved), and he ended up calling me a liar multiple times. His class is extremely boring and a waste of time. AVOID HIM!
I'll do you a favor. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He speaks broken English so don't expect to understand his 2h classes. Thing is, you HAVE to attend his classes. Not because it's mandatory, but rather because he will occasionally give formulas that are important for the midterms/final and you can't find them in the textbook. Wish I could write more
Class just genuinely sucked the life out of you, lectures were 3 hours long and the only important information given was written down on the blackboard at the front. He did this on purpose as you can't see the board in online recordings of class and had to show up. Only good thing about him was that he lowered my standards for other teachers.
Best teacher at Concordia. Definitely didnt fall asleep or considered dropping the class :)
better watch ppt and videos in moddle than wasting time listening this, he even doesn't understand students question
This prof is amazing. it gave me the desire to study economics. The courses are extremely interesting and comprehensive. I recommend him!!!
Waste of time
His English is terrible, you cannot understand what he's saying.
Worst professor ever!!!!!!!!
It is hard to understand this course with this teacher, he's repeating the same thing many times
You cannot understand one word in his class, I spent all the semester learning the lessons autonomously
Waste of time, he doesn't explain the slides and doesn't understand any questions that are asked. Do NOT take his class. Watching paint dry would be more productive than going to his "lectures."
If you are taking Econ 201 with this professor, I highly recommend you switch to another professor immediately. He has a very thick accent and just reads the presentation in lectures. Students would ask questions and he wouldn't be able to answer. Everything that came up on the midterms was not in the textbook or slides he reads in class.
Attended the first class, and teacher was hard to understand and didn't respond properly to questions. From there on, I watched the videos of another professor that M. Gaoussou posted. I only referred to those videos and never attended class again
Awful English, had to swap classes.
Had one lecture with him and dropped him. The course material is awesome if you enjoy economics, its a good introductory class. He knows the material well enough that he can teach it but his monotone voice makes the course boring.
Very Ill prepared, he just reads from his computer. Except he can't speak English well, you're going to end up just teaching yourself unless you already understand economics. Im in class right now and he almost just re-taught us a chapter until a girl told him where we are in the class...
The man barely speaks English. Does not understand a single question asked to him. Monotone voice and reads a ppt for 3 hours. Had to drop this prof last semester and switch to another. Concordia really loves hiring professors with degrees from Walmart. Rather eat sand for life than listen to him teach literally anything ...
This is by far the worst prof I've had. If registering for Econ 203 or Econ 201, please chose another instructor or take the online course. He explains very badly and only reads off of the presentation slides. Plus, his handwriting is awful. I'm serious, if you can, don't have him as your professor.
This is the worst professor ever !!!!!!!!!!!!
Bros on week 2 of duo lingo, had a blast in his class though. Got a new high score on snake and offline dinosaur, enjoy!
You dont understand him
Attended one of Professor Diarra's Econ 201 lectures this fall, walked out and immediately dropped the course. His lectures would make even the most motivated student catatonic. He reads the textbook slides word-for-word in a complete monotone, and if you ask a question he is more likely to ridicule you than answer you. Avoid him at all costs.
okay okay hear me out, his lecture is my guilty pleasure. Yes maybe his English is not GREAT butt his classes are clear, his tone is easy to follow, and I genuinely like his class. IDK. I got a GREAT mark on my midterm without having to study much because everything was given in class. Yes, there is room for improvement, but you're being too harsh.
One of the least capable teachers I've ever been taught by. Avoid like the plague. Quite rude to the class as well.
TOP G TEACHER NO CAP, best teacher I would love to take him next semester and the following one. Its crazy how there are not many like his kind hope concordia new who to hire in better manners wow what a G!
I don't want to be mean but he should really work on improving himself and his teaching style
He will be rude if you answer a question incorrectly or if you ask a question that may be considered obvious (as in it was hiding somewhere in the reading). The guy also shows up like 10-15 minutes late every class so if you have a class at 8:45 am, the lecture won't start until 8:55 am - 9:00 am.
Always late and doesn't know what he is teaching. He is difficult to understand, and sometimes it takes me 10 min to understand what he meant to say.
Super boring in lectures. Went in depth for off topic small details and lacked clarity in bigger portions. Asked a question and made me feel stupid when I was clarifying.
His teaching style is hard to understand because of English not being his first language. He is very accessible outside of class if you have any questions and he will help you understand a concept. However, he seems to always laugh when students say something for unknown reasons. Either laughing at them or just the way he is. Overall an easy class
The professor has a little bit of an accent so it was quite confusing at first but I got used to it quick. The lectures were quite boring but also good in my opinion, he gave a list of key elements to know which really helped me when I was revising. I cant say the professor is excellent but I cant say that he's bad either. He's in the middle for me
reads off slides and does almost no handwritten work
Hard to understand, makes things more complicated then they really are and super boring.
If you plan on taking this class, stop. Reflect on what you are about to do. This guy shows up late every class, not to mention you don't understand a thing by his accent. He always has technical issues and just does not give a crap about his students. If you think you are different and you can do well, you're not, don't take the class.
worst teacher ever
Avoid this teacher! Can't understand a thing he says with his heavy accent and constant trouble with his mic and I can't read a thing he writes on the board. I always have to take pics of the board and half the time I still can't read it. He makes everything so much more complicated than it should be and goes off track often. I don't recommend.
You'll hate Macroeconomics if you end up with this professor. If we had a rotten tomatoes version for professors, he would win every year as the worst professor of the universe. He doesn't know how to teach at all. You feel you are just throwing your precious money in the garbage, and the worst part, Concordia doesn't do nothing about it. Sad.
Boring and very sassy. reads off slides and rewrites his own formulas. I would prepare class before hand and be confident with the content, but as soon as I left class I was confused by his explanations. He was very sassy when answering class questions.
Avoid this professor at all costs! His teaching style is poor.He reads off the slides without explaining the concept. He writes formulas that do not help with assignments and exams. His notes are not clear on the board. When students ask for explanations about the notes on the board, he disregards them and says it's something we should understand.

Teacher can barely speak english, reads off powerpoints, writes on a small board in an AMPHITHEATRE... going to lectures is literally useless as you won't understand a word that comes out of his mouth nor what he writes. Better off to read the book. Also teacher laughs at questions. Not sure why he still has a teaching job but good job Concordia.
very unclear and difficult to understand, started going to other lectures with different profs because he gave no explanation when asked and just wrote down a bunch of made up equations. reading the textbook is super important not only for this prof but this course in general! profs ESPECIALLY like him tend to leave out some really important facts!
Try to avoid this professor if you can. Lectures won't teach you anything, you can't read the board he's writing on, only reads off slides, and is extremely monotone. Honestly go to another professor's lectures instead and make sure to really study the book.
Probably the worst teacher I have seen in Concordia. He would stay on and on with the first slides for the whole lecture. Teaches you almost nothing about the course. Just do yourself a favour and switch section
This professor is often considered the worst due to his strong accent, making understanding extremely difficult. He struggles to deliver simple information clearly and provides incorrect answers to some questions. He also refuses to help students with some lab questions. save yourself and run away.
I dropped this class but worth a review. First of all he was late. secondly he constantly repeats himself and speaks super slowly. He repeated "office hours" more than 10 times. in his run on sentence. His accent is not as heavy as other people say, but it is hard to understand him at times. Buzzing in the room was more entertaining than he was.
Nobody can understand him
Genuinely sucks. Doesn't speak English, you can't convince me otherwise. 1 out of 9 words is understandable. SWITCH OR DROP asap.
The absolute worst professor i've ever had at this university. Sits at his desk and reads off of poorly cobbled power points, can barely explain simple concepts, doesnt offer breaks during his 2h30 power point reading "lectures", and forces you to stay til the end to do the quizzes... this guy should not be teaching. -100/10
His accent is very strong and hard to understand so if english isn't your first language you're gonna have problems. His handwriting is aslo bad overall avoid this teacher
Professor Diarra is just a chill guy who's hustling out here. Accent is tough to hear but I actually fw this professor. Hes a pretty funny guy.. Give this guy a chance. For all the people saying he cant teach and they cant understand it is because you didnt focus enough and did not read textbooks and do the work. lock in
Professor Diarra Gaoussou certainly has a tough accent none the less the lecture remains understandable. Course material is heavy and needs understanding but with labs it's enough. Only hard part with this professor is his writing on the board which requires real listening in class to understand because of the multitude of abréviations used
I stopped going to class after the first midterm and my grades shot up. Do with that what you will.
About his accent, you can truly understand what he says... most of the times. However, I will say that making students stay till the end of class every week to take a quiz is crazyy. Also, his midterm is based on his PowerPoint presentation, so you have to know his PowerPoint by heart, and even if you do, the midterm has 80 questions! Good luck!
If I could give him a 0 I would. He is the worst teacher I have ever encountered. Extremely boring and also rude. Isn't open to feedback and will ignore you if you have your hand up. Doesn't explain properly and doesn't really even know what he's talking about. Asking him to clarify is a death sentence. I'm writing this review on class 3.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. Stait up embarassing that concordia hired this guy. Tell me you are the diversity hire without telling me you are the diversity hire. He is constantly contradicting himself and repeating the same stuff over and over. Concordia staff, if you are reading this please fire him, students dont take him.
His explanations lack clarity, and his writing is difficult to comprehend. He struggles to present concepts in an understandable manner. Study by yourself you will be better off.
There's a noticeable lack of professionalism, and it's surprising how well he manages to keep his position despite this. He often avoids responsibility, provides minimal effort, and relies more on deflection than substance. It's difficult to trust the integrity of the evaluation process under his teaching.
awful teacher, you cannot understand anything he says. he also tries to bring you down during presentations. he is literlally good for nothing, i dont even know how this guy got a degree in anything. i strongly advise to avoid at all cost.
This is 100% concordias worst prof. Definitly a diversity hire. Like I get it we need more black handicaped profs but dont put him on 400 lvl classes. Avoid this prof at all costs he is not smart. Im not even sure he had a real diploma. This prof is why concordia has a bad rep. Fire him or ban him from giving 400 lvl classes.
Professor Gaoussou is one of the most unprofessional instructors I've encountered at Concordia. He was late to nearly every class, openly insulted students, and condescendingly tore apart presentations. His teaching style is demoralizing and completely inappropriate for a university setting. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
Avoid at all costs. Incomprensible, Always late, and overall not fit to be a professor.
You're going to have to teach yourself the class. I found it very hard to understand his teaching. I wouldn't have attended class if it weren't for the participation/attendance points I needed
