He is so helpful. And I think he just make the statistical thing become funny~
Kuhlmann is a great teacher, very funny, and definitely knows what hes talking about. Lectures are kinda boring but very informative and no matter how hard everything may seem he explains it so well for us it becomes really easy
one of the best professors i've ever had. anyone who doesn't like him either has no sense of humor, or is one of those people who slacks off and therefore takes offense in his rude comments because they are directed at them. If you do the work class is easy. The A mark is at a 94 which is achievable if youre not lazy and you have good common sense.
Hes great and really want his students to do well. If you do the homework (which takes like 5 to 10 minutes) and go to lecture you should have no problem!
Dr. Kuhlmann is an excellent professor and a really good guy. He kind of hides it under a cranky exterior, but he really wants everyone to do well in his class. If you actually attend the lectures (mandatory) and do the homework it is easy to do well. Don't be turned off by the attendance requirement, his lectures are very enjoyable and clear.
I liked this professor, a lot then grades came...He accidentally put a B on my transcript (it didn't sound right to me so i emailed him) he told me I got a B+ but never bothered to change the grade on my transcript...what an ****
Kuhlmann does everything in his power to help you do well. If you don't do well, it's on you, not him. He's the man and knows what he's talking about.
Dr. Kuhlmann is an excellent professor. If you go to lectures and do all the homework you can easily get a good grade. You only have to go to the recitation 6 times, but if you're having trouble attend the rec
Go to his class, take notes, do the homework and easy A. exam questions are VERY similar to the homework questions but you need to understand the concepts cause there are few T/F and matching questions. And need to attend recitation at least 6 times.
HE LOVES People who use their cellphones during class. He literally dances when he hears the cellphone ring tone. I am saying he doesnt like ppl who texts and uses laptops. You cant sit at the back seat and come front. He wants you to participate. Also do not ever never bring your laptop to class. He will tell you at first day. EASY A tho!!
This professor really makes students think and the rating that below me, he didn't pay attention at the class and now he is complaining if he is going to fail the class. But he does have office hours at tuesday 7am to 8am then lecture starts at 8am. QUizzes are crystal clear, and exams are same questions from hw. JUST DONT FORGET TO DO ALL THE HWS!
Easily one of the best professors I've ever had. Although often sarcastic, he is a funny, approachable, understanding guy and knows what he's talking about. All assignments and quizzes are short and simple. He is very big on class participation and it keeps class interesting. Regular Attendance = A
Dr. Kuhlmann is the best professor I have had at UB. He writes the textbook and cuts out anything that is not necessary. He only teaches what you need to know. The HW takes less than an hour per week and is well worth doing if you want an A. Tests are based on quizzes which are based on the HW. Very well organized and caring professor.
Annoying. Attendance should NOT be mandatory, especially at 8am. I would be getting an A without the point deduction seeing as how I got perfect scores but now I will be getting a B because I didn't go because I honestly didn't need to. Very sarcastic and bitter. I bet he laughs when he subtracts attendance points. Go to class. Go go go!
Sarcastic and a little intimidating, but hes the best professor Ive had at UB.Hes pretty funny. He writes the book and you pay $40 for it on the first day of class. The material is easy as long as you show up for every class. He doesnt make you memorize any formulas and his tests are very fair.Gives extra credit.Chance to be exempt from final.
Honestly he is such a great professor. Many people can't stand his sarcasm or claimed "arrogance" but i personally thought it brought life to the class especially one that was held from about 7 to 8 at night. Very helpful as long as you ask for help. Compassionate about subject matter and very FAIR! go to class, you won't regret it
He is so handsome and humorous. He can make the class very intersting and attractive. It is easy to get A in this class.
It only requires you to go to few of the recitations. His lectures are boring, but pretty clear. His tests are easy to study from, mostly come directly from the homework. I got an A with 2 exams of 92 and 93. I got exempt out of the final exam. It was a fairly easy class.
it was the ONLY one course i did resign. he wont post the exam result and i had to pick up otherwise 3 point deduction for each. if i forgot to bring a textbook. he will keep looking at you and he keep asking reasonS that why not buy his book. he once called a student idiot who can not answer his question in class.
Great instructor and course. Deep enough to keep those with sincere interest engaged, but basic enough for liberal arts students to succeed (I number among both). Textbook is written by him and cuts to the chase. He is happy to help outside of class. Warning: not at all sympathetic to slackers.
This class isn't too difficult if you actually go and pay attention and keep up with the homework. He explains the material so clearly in the book and lectures. Nice, helpful, won't be mean if you're actually trying. Deserves a chili pepper.
Go to class and pay attention. If you do horribly in this class, it's your fault. The exams are EXTREMELY fair and reasonable.
Great Professor! Make sure you attend lecture because he explains everything you have to do very clearly! Homeworks are super easy, exams are exactly like the homework. Quizzes are easy as well, make sure you do the homework the night before and you'll get a 100. Do minitab with a partner! Overall, great teacher
He may come off as an arrogance but aside from that he is a great teacher. He explains it clearly so you understand the topics. This class requires you to attend. The test are hw questions with different numbers. fairly easy class
He is a great guy and really knows what hes talking about. He has a true interest in his students succeeding in his class and literally tells you what you need to do to do well. His tests are fair and exactly like the homework. DO THE HOMEWORK. if you dont do well in this class you can BLAME YOURSELF. he is one of the most fair professors
Hard class. He's very picky on his tests, and you rarely get full credit. He knows his stuff, but moves very fast. I had a hard time keeping up.
This dude is brolic. Do not fall behind in class or you will not understand anything! But if you do it will be easy. Take notes in class! they are necessary.
Very straight forward teaching style. He makes the class easy to pass with an A if you just pay attention in lecture and do the homework. Extra Credit Given along with a few assignments. All helpful in boosting your grade. Highly recommend Kuhlmann for Stats
Don't know how he's rated so high. Can for the most part explain things clearly, but in a class of 300 if you miss something he can't take the time to back up. TA I had in rec was useless. He discourages students to contact him. Office hours at 7am. He's constantly exasperated by the fact that we don't immediately grasp the material. condescending
failed this class the first time passed the second and never went. bai. dietrich is hawt
Literally such a joke of a class. Not difficult at all. Only complaint is that this guy is more than long winded. I don't even think he breathes he just talks forever. Solid teacher though
With 4 hour tutoring sessions before exams, I still got 30's. Not a good class to take if you're not good at math.
Don't take this class at 8am unless you're a morning person. He gives a book that is a notebook/textbook but if you miss a class you'll be so behind and confused. I hated the class, but the professor was ok, he just went really fast and almost expected everyone to know everything already. He is a good teacher if you're already really smart though
the easiest class i took at ub. GO TO CLASS AND DO HW and i promise you will get an A. i got an A- b/c i did no minitabs cis it didn't work on my macbook.
Class was bland and repetitive - the TA's are absolutely awful. The review sessions are not helpful at all. Overall, please, if you can, take SSC 225 instead. It's much easier. On the plus side, he has incredible biceps.
very easy class- don't bother asking him questions though. he's kind of rude and doesn't respond to emails and such. his class is a piece of cake though! GO TO CLASS. then, to study for tests, do the homework as review. he ended up not making us take the final if we were happy with our current average..so i ended up getting an A!
Kuhlmann was a great professor. He made stats very straight forward and taught from his own textbook. if you keep up with the material you should get an A.
Best Stat teacher in the University. If you listen in class, and do the homework, it's hard not to get an A. Unless you didn't do all the quiz and homework. The test is almost exactly identical to the hw questions. Take it, a GPA booster.
Kuhlman was actually a great professor. The class is very dry but if you take notes and do the homework you'll do well. After my class, he would always go to the cafeteria for an hour in case we had questions and couldn't go to his 7am office hours. His biceps are also phenomenal.
Made Statistics really easy to understand. He's a funny guy too so his lecture was never boring. I signed up for 8 a.m. class and always look forward to going to his class!
Really funny guy. His lecture was never boring. Most importantly, he explains statistical concepts with clarity, and gives examples of real-life application of statistics. Not being good at math, I did not have high expectation for this class in the beginning, but Kuhlmann really changed the table around. Great teacher!
Overall easy professor. Its super helpful to buy his textbooks. Exams are straight up similar to homework and classwork problems. Just double check your exams and you'll do great!
Good teacher
An excellent Statistics professor no doubt. I took STA 301 and though he was very intimidating the first class he turned much friendlier through the semester. He is very passionate about his students and statistics and will do his best to help you do your best. He is always available to students to offer help. Take his class you won''t regret it.
Extremely easy to understand. Funny. Inspirational. OWN the stage.
Kuhlmann is a complete psycho and that's what I loved about him. Listening to him talk about Disneyland at 8am was amusing, yet weird. As far as his material goes, it's easy to comprehend... IF YOU GO TO CLASS. Don't fall behind and like any other math class, practice the skills he teaches you. Not a bad professor.
I failed his class the first time around but I took him again because that's how good a professor he is. The other day I approached him thinking he made a mistake on the hw and he told me I was wrong and made me explain why so I'd learn. He's fair, you only have to go to 6 recitations, extra credit is easy and he really wants you to succeed
Great professor! Would definitely take him again if I got the chance. Takes statistical concepts and illustrates them into the essentials real-life and he really shows his dedication to what he's teaching. LOTS of extra credit opportunities! Gives quizzes as well along with 3 exams. Def wants you to pass!
So Brolic. 3 tests. sometimes makes the final optional. makes all homeworkexamplequiztest questions the same with different numbers and basically spoon feeds the whole class. You have recitation and he usually does sunday reviews if your really need the help. Does have quizzes and homeworks so you have to go to class.
Kuhlmann is a good professor. He really tries to give his students the opportunity to do the best they can. A lot of extra credit and offers sunday review class most weeks. Final not optional this semester, fall 2014. Clear cut exams and quizzes. You can skip class and do well but recommend going towards the end of the semester.
Professor Kuhlmann is a great professor. His lectures may be long, but he tries to make it more fun and you learn alot. He is doing everything he can so we can succeed- including Sunday review sessions and extra credit. Do the homework so you're not behind and everything will make sense! Quizzes and exams are not difficult if you are not behind.
Kuhlmann wants everyone to pass his class. Dont expect a clear schedule for exam homework as he just kind of randomly changes it. He will provide for $40- 3 books of notes that you will follow along with in class. He is clear on what will be tested and what is expected. Overall class is pretty easy you just need to learn how to use Minitab.
He sells his own textbooknotebook in class ($30). He gives clear and fair tests based directly off the notes. (Same exact format too) Basically, if you show up, review well, and study what he tells you to do, easy A. He also gives you a lot of chances to get extra credit points. Extremely hilarious too!
Kuhlmann is really nice to help you if you work hard. This class was a hard A and fairly challenging . Actually he is a fair grader and first of all he seems to be tough to the students but at the end you will realize that he is a good professor.
He seems to be tough at first time but he will encourage the students who work really hard in class. Plus he offers a lot of extra credit opportunities such as Mimi tabs etc to boost your grades .
Never took a stats class before, was definitely the easier than calcs and linear algebra I thought. Professor was very engaging with the students and gave plenty of practice problems that made the tests super easy. Definitely recommend him!
Kuhlmann is an awesome professor but he makes you work for your grade. Writes his own text ($40) & you use TopHat in class. Sunday morning reviews were great, but DO NOT EVER miss class. You will NOT pass if you miss. He will not help you if you miss class. Otherwise, it's great: 6 required recitations & he posts all the solutions to HW online.
Horrible... makes problems up that you never even seen and expects you to know how to do them. I get that the cares but seems like he is also out to destroy you gpa.
Great professor, you'll learn a lot and he makes Probability Theory very clear. He really wants you to do well, but skipping class is a death sentence. If you don't attend, you'll get run over by the workload & the concepts. If you don't want to attend class, try taking MTH411 instead.
Kuhlmann knows this class is a gen ed, so he makes it that everyone can pass. If you don't, that's your own fault. Had the opportunity to talk to him a few times, really a nice guy who wants people to do well and share his love for stats. Homework isn't mandatory, but if you want to do well, do it. Exams are easy, there's Sunday reviews for help.
He is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. His lectures are very clear and informative. Be sure to have the textbooks and go to each class. If you pay attention this class is simple. If you do not it will get tough very quickly.
The best professor i've had at this school. He is great and very clear when he teaches. His test, quizzes, and homework are all alike. Attending recitation is very helpful because it helps understand steps he might have missed in class. He offers a lot of extra credit. Class is not mandatory, but it is beneficial and for me it was a very easy class
He is extremely clear in his lectures and you can tell he wants you to get an A. I 100% recommend his class. I am not a huge fan of the topic of statistics but I would definitely take his class again. Do the homework and redo problems and you'll be ready for the exams. The exams are literally the homework questions with different numbers.
Great prof. Knows his stuff. weekly quizzes and homework assignments. Attend classes and you'll surely get a high grade.
Great professor. I've had him for a 3rd straight semester.
Super clear. Best teacher I have ever had. Do the homework, it's not mandatory but it's all you need to do to get a 100 on the exams. Go to class and follow along while doing the problems and you will do perfect. He is also pretty funny and entertaining.
The best prof. I've ever had. Expect u to do homework & give pop quiz. Really straight forward. If u understand the material, this class is very easy. Grading are very fair.
Best professor ever! Do the homework he assigned and attend to lectures, then the exams will be easy!.Exams are based on the homework questions that he assigned
The lectures are long but he keeps the lectures entertaining and engaging. He assigns short homework assignments which are optional, but are great practices. Honestly the best professor I've had, he dedicates his own time to hold review sessions and create videos to make sure that his students understands the material.
Dr. Kuhlmann is AMAZING. Explains everything so clearly and homework is exactly like the test. Make sure you attend class and it's an easy A.
This man is goals. He is an absolute baller. His class is easy if you do the homework but if you don't you will be in trouble. Occasionally he calls on a kid in class for being stupid but it brings comic relief to the entire lecture. His textbook is the key to success. take this class you will not regret it.
Honestly, it depends. Personally, I don't like the way he teaches because it involves a lot of talking and very very few notes. So it's hard for me to keep up because I get lost. However, he's really funny and extremely nice outside of class (especially) and KNOWS his stuff and is very passionate about it.
Dr. Kuhlmann, is great professor. The exams are straight forward from the required book with different numbers. He is so clear and always willing to help and dedicate amazing amount of time on Sunday reviews! He is the best professor at UB! He makes Statistic fun and gives great opportunity to get extra points through mini assignments and quizes.
Great professor but pay attention. He wants everyone to pass and makes it easy to do so. Just show up, do the homework, and participate. Class sounds hard but he makes it easy.
He's a good teacher but he over simplify things--providing so many different and complicated examples that when I doozed off or if I'm just trying to understand what he's saying, I get very confused. So when this happens, I just look back his answer keys and try to understand how he got what he did. He's a funny guy and wants everyone to succeed.
He makes a large lecture seem like a small classroom, and really wants everyone to do well in the course! Stats starts out super easy and can get tricky. Pay attention in class and do the homework (which is optional) , and you'll do well. Beware because it's super easy to get completely lost! Overall, Kuhlmann is one of the best professors at UB.
Everyone loves him, but I couldn't stand the guy. He tries to be everybody's best friend and thinks he is hot stuff. The class was extremely easy, no textbook but you have to buy his 2 notebooks which are fairly straight forward but are missing crucial information making you have to go to class and hate your life because they are extremely boring.
He was an amazing lecturer considering he's teaching a stats class in NSC. Attendance isn't mandatory though he uses TopHat for extra credit and it's worth going to class for that, also if you miss classes you're going to be behind. Recitation is a joke, but lectures are critical as he's very articulate and you'll understand if you listen!
Even though I've already taken and passed this class previously, Kuhlmann does a great job keeping lectures entertaining. His quizzes and tests are literally the exact same format questions as the assigned HW. You're provided with all the formula sheets so really all you need is to go to class and do enough of the HW and you'll pass easily.
Professor Kuhlmann is the best professor I ever had. Finished the course with a solid A. He provides an excess amount of extra credit if you show up to class which adds up later to be added to your tests and final grade. I took MGQ201 which is pretty much the same course and it is not even comparable to how Kuhlmann teaches. 100% recommend.
Easy A if you go to class to get his notes and do the homework. The exams are the same as the homework assignments, just with different numbers. There's extra credit offered about every other class too. Kuhlmann's humor helps make class a little more enjoyable. Recitations are a waste of time but only 6 are required
Dietrich is an alright professor his teaching style is not for me, although he does try to get everyone involved. My recommendation is to do the homework problems that he assigns although they are not assigned do them as they will help on exams. Also the textbook is really bad likely the worst math textbook I have used for a college class.
Best Professor in UB! Took him for 2 semester and 2 more to go! Pretty much hands you an A, but you must understand the material and follow his guideline to success. Final exam is really hard so make sure you try your best. Lots of extra credit, you certainly have the chance to get an A!
Very nice and responsible professor. His lectures are fun and will be an easy A if you pay attention and do HW.
Formerly had 3.776 gpa, now 3.6. Attended classes and did all the homeworks, extra credit, and still got a C. Went to office hours for help and he brushed me off and said CS majors don't like to work. Curve is pretty bad. Tests are vaguely related to the homework but it's basically 3 pages of maybe I know this and 17 of wtf. That's right, 20 pages.
He is an awesome professor. Although stats is extremely boring to me, he made it so easy, so it was at least bearable to learn. He gives a lot of Top Hat extra credit; 3 points are added to your final grade in the class if you get all of the extra credit. Tests are made from the problems on the homework. Loved his dad jokes!
Dietrich Kuhlmann is the reason I decided to minor in stats. He is truly passionate about what he teaches and cares about the well-being and success of his students. He has a great sense of humor. The course itself is not difficult but completing all of the homeworks ensures success on the quizzes, and tests and overall in the course.
Will go to ends of Earth to make sure you do well in his class.
I never took stats in high school, but Dr. Kuhlmann made it so easy. He is very passionate about what he teaches and wants everyone to do well. Don't skip class because teaching yourself the material is tough. He gives lots of Top Hat extra credit and he's hilarious.
Dr. Kuhlmann is easily the best professor I've ever had. His guided notes make it very easy to pay attention to what he's saying. The work is very straight-forward. He doesn't believe in memorizing useless formulas, so most are provided on every quiz and exam. He's so passionate about what he does, and he does an excellent job explaining things.
Dr. Kuhlmann is easily my favorite professor at UB. He's the reason I switched my major to Statistics. This is the type of class where you either get it or you don't and if you do it'll be easy as ever and if you don't, go to lecture and office hours! He makes the lectures fun and I learned a lot from him.
Dietrich makes me regret not majoring in Statistics. Easy class if you put in some study-time. I'm not sure why I was the only one of my friends who loved his class--this dude is awesome. To keep attention on the material, I counted the times he said "Disneyland." 129 times.
Dietrich is literally the best professor I've ever had. he actually cares about his students and wants every single one of them pass an d will help you in any way. He's so understanding and intimidating at first but he's just so nice and caring I wish every professor could be like him!
His way of teaching is not for me . He uses analogies to try and make it easier for us but it ends up oversimplifying things. But I can understand why he's liked among so many, he likes to engage in his students which is great. But I'm slightly more laid back and just prefer professors to explain things as they are and move on with the lecture.
If you are willing to put the work in, getting the grade you desire if very possible. Gives a lot of opportunity for extra credit. Very helpful office hours. Every ta for this course was utterly useless but he makes up for it by offering extra review sessions as well as just being very accessible.
This guy is what a professor of a course should be, but don't think it's an easy A. You have to be willing to work hard for your grade in this course. You will actually feel like you've learned after this course.
Anyone who didn't give Kulmann 5s either didn't go to class or didn't go to office hours. He's a great professor and is always willing to take the time to explain something to a student. I've never had a professor who makes math/stats so accessible before. Kuhlmann wants students to learn, so his class isn't easy, but it's worth the work.
Kuhlman was probably the best teacher I ever had. He made it so easy to do well with all of the extra credit and little quizzes he gave. This class isn't easy though, you have to be willing to do the work that he assigns to you. But if you do everything he asks and try your hardest when you do it, you will most definitely get an awesome grade.
Dietrich Kulmann is the best college professor I've had since starting college. He is hilarious and has created numerous memes among my friend group. What more is there to say, his class is easy, entertaining, and he has a nice body and face.
Super funny and explains stuff like no other. Some stuff is really hard though, but 10/10 would recommend to somebody who doesn't mind learning something hard if it's taught well
He is extremely thurough in explaining all aspects of his course. Never fails to crack me up literally every class. Gives PLENTY of extra credit. Holds a lot of extra review sessions. Walks around lecture to make sure youre filling in notes and doing the practice problems. Tries his hardest to make your life easy and to pass his course.
Dietrich Kuhlmann is brilliant. One of the best professors at UB. If you show up to class prepared you should get an A.
Honestly he's the only good STAT professor in this school and his exams are very straightforward. You need to come to class to do well honestly and get tutoring or help from help as soon as you do not understand something because the class is very fast paced
35-40% get A's in STA119. That should say a lot. lectures are straightforward and he doesn't expect you to answer curve ball questions in tests. I was able to get 100s every test. One complaint is that his lectures aren't big on explaining the concepts/theory of the math, mostly rote memorization, and as a math enthusiast that disappointed me.
He explains things pretty well and the material isnt too hard. His exams and quizzes are pretty close the the homework and lecture material. He doesnt take attendance but you need to be there to get the notes. My only complaint is that he sometimes gave homework and quiz notifications a little too late. There is also extra credit.
Dietrich is hilarious. Always has a Big Gulp of Dr. Pepper. Do the optional homeworks and youll be fine. He also repeats most tests so if you had a friend that took his class before study the past exams.
Worst professor I have had so far at UB, and that is saying a lot. His lectures consist of 20% going over the material with the rest trying to be funny/philosophical. He gives almost no examples about the material, and even then doesn't post the answers to the assignments you have done: leading to students having no idea what's going on.
Dietrich Kuhlmann is one of my favorite professors at UB. He just has a way of explaining things that make perfect sense. Even if it doesn't just ask him after class and he can clear it up in 30 seconds. He is also hands down the funniest professor I've had (very sarcastic). I actually looked forward to going to this class because of him. Do the HW
He is truly a gem! He wants to give out As, and so he tries to make the class as easy as possible. He holds weekly review sessions to provide extra help (outside of office hours), explains things nicely and over and over again. Tests are long, but very easy! He curves if necessary, but usually isnt necessary. Take him!
A very funny and caring professor. He used tophat to track students' participation and provided extra credit based on TopHat scores. If you do the homework that he provides regularly, you should be fine. He has review sessions besides regular class and office hours. Those were helpful too.
Kuhlmann is a gem. One of the most funniest and caring professors in UB. I was afraid at first but its not hard at all if you do the optional homework & quizzes .
The class isn't difficult, the work is just very tedious so if you do not keep up, then you will fall behind. As long as you stay on top of the work though and practice the problems, you should be fine. Dietrich on the other hand is not a very good professor. He does not explain the material well, Ive literally had other students explain it better
Not a difficult class if you keep up with the HW. THE EXAMS ARE TAKEN FROM HW PROBLEMS so even tho he doesn't check it be sure to do it. No way to escape him bc hes the only 1 that teaches this course, but the class itself isnt bad. I dont like his teaching style. Good thing his book was written the way it was bc it was a lot more helpful than him.
Horrible personality, rude and very sassy BUT his exams are literally the HW he gives out. Easy A but expect to teach yourself everything.
The Best Stats professor in UB! Take him and you will not regret!!!!
Dr. Kuhlmann is a great stats professor! Even though his class was really early, he was energetic and explained the content very well. The tests were extremely similar to the homework, so as long as you keep up on the homework assignments and get help early on you'll do well.
Kuhlmann is a really good professor. Stats can be hard and he writes the textbook so it is explained in an easier way. But if you zone out you can really get lost and lose track of the material. Stay on track with the homework in the back of the books.
Hes an amazing professor. He explains everything clearly & does not try to trick you on the exams, he genuinely wants you to do well. He makes his lectures interesting & uses an interactive textbook. If you do his optional & mandatory homework & watch his videos youll be just fine.
Stats is definitely not hard, and Dr. Kuhlmann makes it easier. The key to passing this class is re-reading the notes (which aren't plenty) until you really get the concepts, and then doing some practice problems. Only 6 recitations are mandatory.
Not good. He decided to write the textbook during the course resulting in error laden, unclear, and mostly example-free pdfs being emailed 2-4 hours before class. Can't print it? Hope you mark down every error he catches in class so you're less confused studying later. HW was a mess. Used TopHat for half the course then gave up on it.
Kuhlmann makes this class very simple and straightforward. Exam problems are taken straight from homework and uploaded videos. There are 6-7 graded homeworks and quizzes but homework in the back of the textbook is optional. BE SURE TO DO IT. These problems are the ones seen on exams. 2 exams and a final. Gives lots of extra credit through tophat.
Dr. Kuhlmann is awesome! He makes class very entertaining and will joke about real life situations and compare it to Stats. He does not have much availability, so go to the Stats lab on south campus! He is not good at responding to emails, so talk to him after class! Go to class! The notes will be on exams and they're nor hard! He wants you to pass
Dr. Kuhlmann is a pretty cool guy, and an even better professor. He is very straight-foward with what he expects from his students. He explains how to do a problem in class, and gives students the opportunity to do that problem over and over again through optional hws, mandatory hws and quizzes. If you go to lecture you will easily get an A.
Where do I start with this guy. He's fine for low level courses (STA 119) but terrible for upper level courses. no clear grading criteria. no one knew their grades until they were officially due. doesn't post answers to HW and when he does, most of them are wrong & he has to go back to correct them. he just goes on rants in class and doesn't teach.
Professor Kuhlmann is arguably one of my favorite professors at UB. Hes funny and passionate about what he does and you know he wants his students to succeed. Do the TopHat questions to get extra credit at the end of the semester and do the homework, his test questions are the homework questions just with different numbers!
He has his own notes book which is what the tests are based off of. This is mandatory and is how you follow his lectures for example problems. The hw is helpful but never checked. He uses tophat as extra credit. Tests are identical to in class problems, and formulas are given to you. Recitation is useless, but you must go to 6.
Dr. Kuhlmann simplifies tough math topics so that anyone can understand them as long as they put in the work. He gives extra credit opportunities via homework and TopHat and he posts extra helpful videos online. Homework and quizzes are made to help prepare you for your exams and he is always willing to meet to review content. Hilarious, take him!
I had Dr. Kuhlmann for Stats 119, and he is one of the best professors I have encountered. There is clear expectations for students and he genuinely cares about your success in his class. Keeping up with material is crucial, but he makes success easy if you put the time in, as he ensures you know exactly what will be on exams and grades fairly.
He never went through his notes like a normal professor does and would just talk about random things throughout class. His only review is on Sundays at 9 am. He doesn't do much review for his tests, and he doesn't put any of your grades in so you never know your grade until the end.
You can tell he's a guy who cares about the well being of his students, and wants them to succeed. In STA119 he has optional homework assignments in the textbook. If you do these practice problems and pay attention in lectures, you should get a good grade. If you still struggle, there are many other opportunities for help - recitations and review.
There are a-lot of hw in the class however if you don't do the hw and go to class, you will fail. The best way to do well in this class is to practice the hw problems over and over again. He is really good at explaining the material for this class
Hes so sarcastic but in a really funny way. His tests are super similar to the homework problems and he tells you exactly whats going to be on it. If you know someone that took the class before, look at their old tests cause the tests from year to year are pretty similar.
One of the best proffesors in my opinion. He truly cares about how his students are doing and does his best to help if you are struggling. As long as you pay attention in class and do the homework you will be able to keep up. I would recommend him to anyone who is going to take this class.
He's a great professor but he tends to go off on tangents and you end up tuning out for 15 minutes before he gets back to the topic at hand. When he's specifically talking about the unit, it's pretty easy to follow along. Definitely don't skip his lectures, you'll fail.
He explains things great and even if you don't understand something at first with hard work and studying you'll get it. If you don't pay attention you won't pass and lectures are mandatory. Very approachable and always willing to go above and beyond to make sure you understand because he wants you to pass.
His class is VERY easy and tests are word for word questions from homework. If you show up you'll pass. However, he is so boring I fell asleep in almost every lecture. 80% of lecture is spent listening to him rant about topics not relevant to the content. Despite the fact he's boring, his class is so easy I would recommend taking it anyway.
Funny professor, walks you through the things needed to learn. However, not that nice if you don't do things his way. He stresses learning by pictures, but if you're not good at drawing pictures (or don't learn via pictures), he's going to brush you off and refuse to help. He says pictures help with learning, but they dont help me.
Not a nice person, not a good professor, not sure why he still has a job here. Condescending to all students.
Best professor at SUNY buffalo
He's such a hard worker. Caters to different learning styles through videos and examples. Really cares about your performance. A little sarcastic but there is not a better or more hardworking math professor at UB. Take him, sit in the front, make your study group early, do the home works, go to office hours weekly, and you will succeed.
Havent everrr had a professor that puts as much effort as khullmann to see us succeed. Puts extreme efforts to see us succeed!!!!!!!!!!!! Little rude when u ask him questions but it's his character, not an intentional insult.
Very rude and condescending. Easily worst professor at this school. He does not care whether or not you pass. Dont bother asking questions he will tell you figure it out yourself. Does not answer emails. His teaching style is very difficult to follow along with. Stops caring and posting halfway through. Doesnt give sample problems to do in class
Kuhlmann is one the best professors I've had out of all the courses I've taken at UB. He's not rude to students. He wants students to actually understand the material and do good in the course.
Im really bad at maths but this professor made everything so easy and understandable. He provides a lot of extra credits so its hard to not do well on this course. He is one of the funniest professors here, I love how often he mentions Disneyland in the class. He also held Sunday review before exam which helped us a lot.
Professor Kuhlmann is an excellent teacher. He made stats very easy and fun when I know many other people who were struggling with it. He genuinely cares about his students and their grades. The tests are based off of quizzes and homeworks and are very easy to pass. The recitation was pointless but you have to go to 6 of them.
He is very repetitive and talks way more than necessary. Kind of condescending but he makes the class easy. Likes to call on people randomly throughout the lecture. As long as you do the homeworks youll do great on the tests as they are exactly the same. Great teacher but doesnt seem like a nice person.
Great teacher, he really sets you up for success. That being saidPUT IN THE WORK. If you do all of the optional homeworks and understand them, not only will you get an A in the class but you won't have take the final. Every person I talked to who did everything he asked you too even if it wasn't graded, did amazing in the class. The hw isn't bad
Daily attendance is not taken but there are a few catches to that. He does things differently, but makes it easier to understand. Will randomly check book homework at times (front row people be ready!) Quizzes/tests are given routinely. Grading is harsh at times, not always. Doing book homework will definitely prepare you for the assessments.
I took this class semester 1, freshman year. Kuhlmann is a great professor and really cares about what he does. If you put in at least half of the effort that he puts into this class you will get an A. If you get a 95 or above on both test you dont need to take the final and it is a lot easier than it sounds, his tests are word for word from hw.
Show up to class, do the homework assigned, and you're gonna good a good grade. His lectures are funny and entertaining.
Holy cow his lectures are funny and entertaining, and I leave them with more knowledge in my brain without even trying. Amazing lecturer! If I were in Disneyland, he would teach all of my math classes.
I was always terrible at Statistics, but I must say this Professor is a real gem. His ways of teaching, his style, and his methods are phenomenal. If you are going to class and doing exactly what he tells you to do on the first day of class then trust me your life will be easier than ever. You will learn a lot if you attend class. He is funny
Dr. Kuhlmann was an excellent professor. He is very passionate about statistics and it shows in his class. He shows the importance of statistics and its importance in everyday life. He assigns a lot of bookwork (not-graded) and extra credit. If you complete the work he assigns for you and go to class, you should be fine. If not, good luck!
Going into the course, I was definitely skeptical. I had never excelled in stats and knew I was in for a lot. Right off the bat, Professor Kuhlmann made the course fun and much more interesting. He has a way of teaching that makes you want to learn, but the key concepts actually begin to sink in. He teaches in a way that guarantees success.
Im not the best at Stats but I was surprised at how passionate he is about it. Hes hilarious in class and he gives ALOT of extra credit through top hat. Dont miss a day of class of its not necessary. Get a tutor & show up for Sunday reviews!
Dr. Kuhlmann is one of the best professors that anyone will ever have at UB. He is hilarious and keeps you entertained while learning statistics. The tests and quizzes are like his homeworks, and he also provides extra credit during lecture. The recitations are amazing as well. To be successful, attend class, recitation, and do the homework.
I have had Dr. Kuhlmann three times now. He is by far my favorite teacher I have had so far at UB. He goes out of his way to make sure you succeed more than any other teacher ive had-- possibly ever in college. Those who spoke negatively here probably skipped class and don't care, I am not just saying that. More teachers need to follow his lead.
Professor Kuhlmann is by far the best professor I met at UB. I take STA 119 with him last semester, and its a easy A. His exam are not hard cuz most of the question is same as what you did on homework. If you do the homework, they shouldnt be hard. if you get 93 on the first 2 exam, you can get a A without taking the final.
He's constantly rude to students, constantly putting them down. If someone asks a question about a problem he always finds a way to put them down and not answer the question.
I and several other students asked a question during a review session and he responded "I'm not going to answer that you should know that". Not very helpful and in a way makes it clear that you are inferior to him when it comes to education. Doesn't update grades. Condescending, arrogant and rude. You will be teaching yourself and going to tutoring
Funny guy, but he wasnt as good this semester as he was previously. STA 301 is *MUCH* harder than 119, and he didn't do as good as teaching as he did in 119. He didnt put answers to HW's up, which makes it hard to know which problems you did right/wrong... and his excuses for not doing that were really flimsy. Ill see what I get I suppose.
I've witnessed him being incredibly rude and talk down to almost any student who approaches him since the beginning of the semester. He's also incredibly unorganized. Homework assignments are scattered across the website on different pages and folders with no rhyme or reason. You never know where to look when he says he's posted a new assignment.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Due to COVID, I was unfortunately placed in the remote class. Many of us had to drop it because it was impossible to pass in this format. We could not even ask questions. He is also the most disorganized professor I have had with terrible office hours, horrendous online skills/lectures, and late assignment dates for hw.
Okay, first thing's first about Kuhlmann, if you don't understand his personality you are going to take him as rude and arrogant. I had him in person for Fall 2019, and he was one of the funniest (sarcastic but just the right amount )professors. He explains things well and usually, makes his quizzes and exams s based on the homework. You'll be fine
He is one of the more unique professors out there. Many people dont like him because of his ego and condescending attitude but thats just his personality. He truly is a hard working professor who is brilliant and MAKES you work for your grade. THAT is a great teacher.
Unlike other classes, the due dates for homework is all over the place (Mon- Sun) (11am - 6pm). There is 0 consistency. I missed several deadlines because I don't check my email often. Not all lectures are recorded for covid semester. Wish there was more working examples in class instead of talking and explaining. Exam seems fair so far
By far one of my favorite professors ever. I am not a strong math student and was honestly dreading this class but it's been great. He teaches statistics in such a clear, and real-world way that it all is so easily understandable. Do the homework, pay attention to lectures and you'll do great! Highly, highly recommend.
Seems like a truly good and caring proffesor. However I cannot recommend taking an online course with him. He definitely tries his best to make the online course good but it is simply difficult to learn due to his lack of technical skills. Stick to in person classes with him.
Anyone that is saying "you just have to know him" is selling him short. It's no excuse for how he treats students, belittling them when asking simple questions. He is the most disorganized teacher I have ever had. Forgot assignments at times, had only 7 am office hours, and outright admits he does not care if you learn or pass. Avoid at all costs.
Pretty nice professor in general. His has the attitude but he does care about your grades. The class is pretty easy. Exam prep doesnt take much time, about 5 hours if you have general ideas of the lectures. Just have to do book homework and definitely pass. Plus he lets his students exempt the final if you did great on the first 2 exams.
A very funny guy and very knowledgeable. There are not many grades (2-3 exams and some graded homework) and there is lots of optional homework but definitely do them because the exam questions are exactly like them. Plus, there are lots of opportunities for extra credit so make sure to take advantage of that.
Good and bad things. He does belittle you when you ask stupid questions but thats Bc he has an expectation at certain point. I spent a lot of time learning the material on my own. I definitely recommend going to an online tutor offered by ub when you dont understand. try to do your best on first two exams to be exempt from final
Lecture is literally watching him type out formulas into a word doc while he gets side tracked for at least half the lecture. Rarely answers questions, instead opting for a snide remark of some kind. Tests are similar to the HW, but were on Tophat, meaning no partial credit.... in a math class. Would be ok in person, but avoid taking him online
If u actually wanna learn stats this class probably isnt for you. Otherwise, he holds your hand through the the entire course. U do problems in lecture and the homework have the same problems but with different numbers. The exams are the same; just practice and youll get an A. If do well on the first 2 exams u dont take the final and get an A.
This guy is so unorganized it hurts my grade. Materials are all over UBlearns and nothing but hw and ec on tophat. Does his lectures and recitations in a word doc instead of writing it out. Still did not learn anything in this class. A funny guy, so he makes the class slightly more bearable.
I think hes one of the most hard-working professors at UB. He wrote his own book, conducts all the lectures, recitation, and Sunday review every week for almost all his classes. He will provide everything you need to succeed in this course and get the grade you deserve. Between, hes funny and has a unique personality. Totally recommended!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE! It's okay in person. Impossible to reach by email. Not lenient. Has a snarky attitude and made me not want to ask questions in class. Did not adjust because of COVID and made it hard for students online. If you do take his class, do the homework in the back of the book, go to the review sessions, and GO TO CLASS!
got As on all of his classes, STA119, STA331, STA332. He teaches really good and funny guy too. Don't really listen to the people that rated him low here on this website. They most likely deserve the grade and really shouldn't be college students... lets be honest I mean he already waters down the course as it is.
Took his class in the Spring of 2018. I have nothing but good things to say about this man. He explains things well and usually, makes his quizzes and exams based on homework. Go to class and pay attention. If you get A's for the first two exams, you will exmepted from taking the final.
Seems kinda strict, but is actually really funny and nice. A really good teacher, but you just really need to pay attention in class.
He wants to see us do well, but he kind of has a poor attitude about it and makes you feel bad. The course was only a 119 and I took it as a senior so I felt bad for new students who might not be familiar with brash professors.
Hes intimidating but he truly does care about you passing. I love his teaching method. It sucks I had to take his class on zoom because it seems more fit to be in person. He cracks little jokes every once in a while which also makes the learning environment that much better. Hes great at teaching, he knows what hes talking about.
One of the best professors I've had. He clearly states what he expects from you and tries his best to help you get a good grade, He definitely has went out of his way to give you lots of extra credit to boost your grade and cares about your understanding of the material. Homeworks are JUST like the exams so DO them. Will not pass without studying.
Ok, so Kuhlmann is pretty good at teaching and you can tell he puts a lot of work into developing his class, but wow is he a jerk. He makes you feel stupid for asking questions and if you don't understand something the way he explained it, don't bother asking him to explain another way, he'll just go on a rant about how you're not paying attention
He's teaching a statistics class, and uses tophat. Why are you teaching a class and using top hat? Why can't you just have students upload to gradescope like the math department. If students produce something that is illegible, just remove points.
He gives lectures and reviews his textbooks so if you miss a lecture you'll be behind. Try to keep up with it, because he gives extra credit during lectures. The exams are just like the homework so just familiarize yourself with the material. Just pay attention. He is a little intimidating, but I found most of the stuff he said hilarious.
For all you people that took STA 119 that say "do the HW and you'll pass"--yeah, no. That may be true in 119, it definitely isnt true for the higher up stats classes. He puts stuff no one has seen before on exams, throws curveballs, refuses to hand tests back to students, and uses tophat. Good professor for 119, absolutely horrid elsewhere.
Doesn't give much hw which left me unprepared for the exam, which was done on tophat, with only multiple choice. Gives alot of extra credits so it makes up some of the lost points. The book is free but I feel like he could add more hw questions. First day of class he said were 3 weeks ahead of schedule but 3 weeks before finals he said were behind.
TAKE PSY 207 IF YOU CAN! Some people liked him... I personally did not. I took STA 119 and PSY 207 and 207 was 1. easier to pass, 2. I got more out of it and 3. Kids genuinely do better in 207 (I got a D+ in 119 and B+ in 207) I took both online I found Professor Kuhlmann was rude if you asked valid questions and embarrassed kids often as well.
Kuhlmann is a good professor, but can be a wise guy at times, and not in a respectful way. If you pay attention and ask questions you should do fine, but asking questions sometimes will bother him.
Taking his class right now, honestly it really isnt that bad. Go to class, take the notes, do the practice problems on the book, do extra credit and homework and youll be good. You need very little studying
So easy. All the test problems are hw problems.
He writes his own textbook with no annotations. Its useless. He uses top hat and has homework due on Sunday at 10am and throughout the week at other random hours. Top hats unforgiving and provides no feedback. I did homework, attended class, hand wrote his textbook. Probably failed the final anyways. Lost days of my life I wont get back.
kuhlmann is an excellent professor. i wasnt strongest in math, however he gives you lots of opportunities to boost your grade. the quizzes/ exams are like the homework. if you learn how to do each question in the homework and review it, go to class for to participate in extra problems which similar to quizzes/exams & youll get a good grade!
Extremely disorganized professor. Hands out homework randomly and only gives 2-3 days to finish it which means you don't get time to double check or ask the TA any questions. His syllabus is wrong and he said there would be quizzes but we never had any quizzes. He's rude, snarky and makes you feel bad for asking questions. Offers some extra credit.
His lectures are interesting if you actually listen and understand what he is talking about. The textbook that he makes us buy is used the whole semester and his exams are basically everything we learned within that unit.
I took STA 119 a year ago now and I still vividly remember how awful it was. I'm now applying for MPH programs and one of the required courses is only taught by him. I'd rather get my MPH somewhere else than take another class with Kuhlmann. I've never had another professor who makes you feel so stupid if you ask for help.
so bad. don't do it
He was one of the best professors that I've had. He made it clear which problems were going to show up on the exams. Also, he did Sunday reviews and made videos for extra help. His grading is very fair, as he wants everyone to succeed in the class. If you put in the work and study, you should be fine. Also very comical and keeps class interesting.
The others giving him 1 star for 119 are dramatic and probably not very bright. The tests and quizzes are literally cookie cutter questions from the textbook/hw. If you do a few practice problems and show up to class, you can easily do well. Attendance is mandatory and he doesn't record the lectures which sucks. Tons of extra credit too.
As long as you do the practice problems in the back of the book, watch Sunday review, go to class and do extra credit then it is an easy A.
Dr.Kuhlmann laid everything out for the students for success and made learning extremely simple, he connected the topics back to real world events which made them much easier to comprehend. Overall he is a great professor, a little old school in his ways but you should have no worries taking STA 119 with Dr.Kuhlmann.
Does not enter grades into UB Learns. It's week 15 and all I know is I have a C because I emailed him 3 weeks ago and that's what he said I have. Has poor communication skills; he does not have an assignment masterlist and instead sends emails that announce homework, giving 2 or so days to complete. This makes it impossible to plan ahead. Avoid
Dr. Kuhlmann is the best professor at UB. Before attending his class, I was scared that I would fail since I knew the course would be challenging. But his Sunday review sessions and extra practice problems were so helpful in my studying. As a result, I got an A in the class, and I would have never received that grade if it weren't for him.
One of the easiest classes I've taken at UB, but also a waste of time because you don't learn much about statistics. He doesn't enter any grades into Blackboard so you have to guess your letter grade.
Very funny, very good at explaining concepts. Does not post grades on Blackboard until the week before final so you have to guess. does sunday reviews and posts videos. overall easy class. Sometimes, he sounds mean but it' either bc he's in a rush or very excited. lots of extra credit, easy HW.
This professor can teach stats to anybody!
Of all the people I've ever known, I am the worst at math. This class was the hardest I've ever had, but that wasn't because of Kuhlmann. If I liked math, I think he'd be my favorite professor. He cares a lot, even if he seems a bit tough on first blush. He won't go easy, but he's fair, and I think anyone can pass this class if they really try!
Dr. Kuhlmann was a great professor. He presents the information well and he tells us what materials we will be tested on. The test questions are similar to the homework/classwork. He also uses tophat in class, which counts like extra credit.
His lectures were interesting and fun. If you need to take this class, you will not regret it! He gives extra credit assignments, not too much homework. Exams are little difficult, but if you spend some time working on homework and learning important concepts, you will be fine.
Class is very late at night, exam lasts until 10pm. Doesn't break down the concept in depth enough. I also have sta301 with him and he is very unorganized in the way he allocates the materials and exercises. There is a week you don't have much things to do but every time exam is coming he will throw at you a bunch of new materials at the same time.
If you ask him a question he makes you feel dumb when he answers it, I had emailed him a question regarding a homework assignment the next day in class went on 7 min lecture about how someone sent him a whinny email about the homework. He is very disorganized he went an hour into our class time before realizing he was not teaching the correct thing
He writes his textbook w/o annotations for formula. My major is actuary, I was in some case competitions for data analyst,I have to touch to stat a lot and the symbol from this textbook is slightly different from the other ones,I wanna ensure I understand his book correctly
I would say that this class can be easy, but you need to be on top of everything in order to receive an A in the class. He does go a little fast in lectures. He will also talk about Disneyland at least once per class.
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. He is passionate about teaching and you can tell he cares about his students. Goes above and beyond into creating extra videos and resources to students in case they aren't understanding the content. Very fair grading. I actually felt interested and engaged during lectures which is rare for me.
One of the easiest classes you'll ever take. He creates his own book and makes it very clear how he wants you to do things. If you do the homework and extra credit you should be able to understand the material. Not a hard class at all and if you think it is maybe college isn't for you.
The only reason I didn't do great in this class was bc I didn't take it as seriously as I should have, this class also taught me that I should not do 8am lectures. Anyways, exams are very straightforward and whatever he says will be on there, is on there. He talks forever about nothing though, which seriously makes it hard to pay attention.
Hes funny and will give you a better grade if you are remotely close to the next letter grade, easy C at the least
He is quite the character! He cares for his students and wants everyone to get A's. My advice is to work very hard on getting a good grade of the first 2 exams so you don't have to take the final. The material is pretty simple and if you show up and pay attention to are going to get a A. You must go to class though because nothing is recorded.
Deadlines for homeworks are completely random
Dr. Kuhlmann is respected, intelligent, and gives good lectures. He also is a smug, petty, and kind of an a-hole. Don't appreciate that he requires mandatory attendance with no recorded lectures for a large college course in the present day. Mandatory exposure to 400 other people, for over an hour twice a week, is a great way to spread disease.
I would not recommend taking this professor if you cannot pay attention well in lectures. He loves punishing people for absence by taking in-class attendance, posting multiple top-hat questions, and not recording lectures. He makes the class way harder than it needs to be, take MTH 411 instead if you can.
If he was only as good at lecturing as he is at comedy. You literally can't avoid him because he is the only 119 and 301 professor. He teaches you HIS interpretation of statistics so any outside studying is useless. He provides hardly any guidance for the midterms. This class is a total nightmare!
Random homework due dates and times. Attendance is mandatory but only takes attendance 1/3rd of the time and excused absences aren't allowed and lectures aren't recorded. Strict about where u sit for some reason and eventually banned students from sitting in the last 4 rows. Perfect example of level 100 professors being difficult for no reason.
This professor is amazing. He talks you through each process slowly and throughly and makes time for people to understand. A hilarious teacher that truly wants you to do well.
Literally, do not take this class. He talks in the class for an hour about who knows what, then gets mad when you don't know anything.
Rambles the whole lecture, but if you read his textbook you should be fine. The main reason this class is so bad is that it's extremely disorganized - HW is due at random times, and was once assigned on the weekend and due monday morning at 8am. He's also not approachable at all. Exams consistently included a few questions we didnt cover in class.
He's an ok teacher, however His attitude is obnoxious. He thinks he's being witty and cool when he's really just mean. He belittles struggling students and responds to questions with ridicule. He goes on tirades about things he makes up (he thought our 400 person lecture had a Discord for cheating) and homework is so sporadic its hard to keep up
Well to start off, this has got to be the easiest course I have ever taken at UB, it's not even close honestly. The professor himself is a witty, pretty funny guy. Although he might seem a bit mean if you ask him questions after class. Overall, just memorize how to do the problems in the homework's because they are identical to the test problems.
I don't get the hype about Kuhlmann. His lectures are redundant and indirect for easy concepts. He makes students come at 7am for office hours and he ridicules students during lecture. Despite this, his class is fair, the test questions are right from the practice, and the homework and extra credit are effective. Easy class, but very unenjoyable.
He chats for the first quarter of the class about who knows what. Could be complaining about people who are in the room, or even not in the room. Not enjoyable at all to hear, but easy class. If you want an easy A, this is the class to take probably.
The 8AM was rough, but make sure you show up since lectures aren't recorded. Do the back of the book homework- this will be your best tool. Easy A if you listen and just pay attention in class.
"This ain't Disneyland". Uses plenty of real-world examples. Made his own textbooks available only through the bookstore. Made his own videos that explain topics. DO THE HOMEWORK and stay on top of the multiple extra-credit opportunities. Make sure you're comfy reading charts and tables. No defined timeline to follow. Engages students in the front.
My experience with Kuhlmann in STA301 was the worst educational experience of my life, no exaggeration. He gets a lot of love for his a-hole attitude from his easy class students, but with our more difficult material, he demands mandatory attendance and wastes half the class insulting his students and talking about how he's smarter than us.
As a lecturer, Professor Kuhlmann explains himself well. He wont post much lecture material online, making it difficult to learn when he speeds through lecture notes that are very important. Also the final had many questions with techniques we'd never learned. Felt more like an extra credit challenge than a test of your knowledge- very frustrating.
His actual ability to teach is not bad and he has great review sessions. Unfortunately, he puts up many unnecessary barriers to learning as well. Terrible attitude, assumes the worst out of people, says "too bad" when you can't join TopHat attendance bc the connection in NSC 225 is terrible and the page won't load in time, bashes STA119 students
Could be more accessible outside of class.
Good professor, easy class. Got boring at times as some days would just be going over examples and practice problems. Attendance wasn't necessary but I would recommend showing up as he would often give extra credit.
generally unapproachable, rude, sometimes funny. a lot of homework due at odd times because he reviewed it in Sunday lectures (this was hugely helpful). some of the content is weird, but everything is based off of the example problems in lecture, so if you understand those you'll get a good grade. gave a lot of extra study materials outside class.
So unorganized, he'd share hundreds of files full of irrelevant info. So many barriers to learning because he doesn't actually teach and wants you to look for the information in his files, office hours would be at inconvenient times, and was unapproachable. Genuinely believed the worst in students. Those who rated him high took his easy class.
Completely unorganized, flips through pages non stop, and is never clear and always all over the place. He attempted to give us teach a lecture and give homework after the final exam. The amount of mistakes he makes while teaching makes this class so much harder. Loses his temper as well
This guy is an amazing public speaker and really knows his stuff. At times I wish I was a stats major so I could just have him teach all my courses lol. You'll get the grade you deserve at the end of the day.
He really cares about students. Clear lectures. Teaches thought processes rather than formulas. Homework isn't too heavy. 3 exams, no final. Drops lowest quiz grade. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
This professor knows his stuff, but his teaching style is very unorganized. He will bounce from topic to topic and is sometimes hard to follow. You will do fine in this course if you pay attention in class and do the homework problems that are graded and ungraded. He does make his own textbook which is fairly easy to follow.
He makes his own textbook and assigns homework through top hat. there are also homework questions in the back of the text ungraded but they can help you understand the material better. If you dont go to class you probably wont do well since its like a new topic everyday. Really hard to get ahold of outside of Office hours.
I didn't find 302 as well run as 301. Often, instead of doing homework throughout the units, we'd just have it all piled on during the last week. Instead of explaining how to do questions, he would often spend way too much time on the theory (still important, just not this much) and we'd have no clue how to actually do questions. Still like him.
Lectures are unorganized and homeworks are due at random times. Everything is based off the textbook he wrote which is very much his own interpretation of statistics. Condescending and gets frustrated when students do not participate in class even though class was on Zoom and participiation is not graded. Class is super easy but prof is not great.
He made this class SO easy, but you have to put in the work. You will fail if you don't come to class, do the homework, or study. He gives lots of chances for extra credit tho. He doesn't put grades on BrightSpace which is annoying.
Kuhlmann is not bad. He is very supportive. You got the videos and practice questions. It is important to know how to do the math problems for the exams. He just looks tough, he is actually a very good professor and lecturer.
This class is pretty straightforward if you put in the work. The professor explains concepts well, but attendance is mandatory. Using unstuckstudy ai along with the textbook and homework really helps solidify the material. Overall, an engaging class with good opportunities for extra credit.
If you can avoid this teacher for any classes you are required to take, do it. This guy gets the work done and if you attend lectures and put in the work you will most likely do well. The only issue is that he is a extremely rude and uncaring professor with a very large ego. He may be good at math, but is terrible at being a good person.
This professor isn't "nice" as people say he is, people say he's funny and good at giving lectures. However he's just really average, I can tell he likes teaching but his style is not for everyone. Another thing is that he has an attitude about answering questions on emails, in-person questions he will answer fine. He's just a mid professor.
Unorganized lectures using notes which are just pages from his textbook. Often bounces from topic to topic. Combine this with his slow lecture style and it is very easy to get lost in your own thoughts. Unreasonable homework deadlines such as 7:30PM Sunday and 8AM Monday. Be prepared to learn everything on your own outside of class time.
The professor is very strict and unreasonable. His lectures are very slow and he tends to bounce from topic to topic while just following the textbook. His exams are also made very difficult and does not reflect well with the homework that is given for practice. He is also very difficult to approach for help because of his attitude and ego.
Honestly the course itself is extremely easy. Kuhlmann is strict but if you put in a bit of effort you'll be fine. Lectures are looong imo and I feel like he stretches out topics more than needed, bur other people might like that pace. I'm just not someone who is the best at sitting through the 80 minute classes.
This is probably my favorite professor/teacher I have ever had in my life. Hilarious guy with a serious passion for statistics. He makes it super easy to get an A and quite clearly tells everyone exactly what is needed to excel. Anyone with a bad grade literally just did not pay attention or put in any effort since not much is required. 1000/10
If you're not good at math or numbers, do not take this class. There are only three tests, but the last one counts as double points, which is good. Of seven quizzes, two get dropped. He assigns homework at random times when tutors are not accessible so make sure you know all the questions otherwise you dont get any points.
I think he's the worst professor I've ever had at UB. Really unreachable, his office hours are at 7am and only one TA for +300 students. He has an unorgnized and dumb system of hw with random deadlines. The exams are hard and on a saturday. In lectures, He will spend 80%of the time talking ab his life or how we should study instead of teaching.
He's a great professor, and he always gives extra credit. He does weekly reviews to go over the material learned previously. He wants his students to do well. He can be hard on students but its because he wants them to do well
Professor is blunt, cares but seems unapproachable due to his demeanor. He is a very good lecturer, tests are easy just pay attention and attend his reviews.
He is so rude and has an attitude. He looks like he cares but once u need help he wont gaf. Test are unnecessary hard and nothing like the hw. You will teach this class by yourself
He was fine. The homework were identical to the exams and he gave lots of extra credit, but make sure to do the homeworks- theyre a big part of ur grade. He's kinda rude but a good teacher so oh well.
Dietrich Is a good professor. He randomly cancels classes, and puts homework out super inconsistently and makes it due at abnormal times making it hard to have a steady schedule. Overall, he is fine and if you watch for Top Hat homework assignments and go to lecture you will get an A. Do not forget about homework.
He talked more about how it's important to listen to him compared to the amount of time he spent teaching, didn't have a clear hw/ quiz schedule making it harder to stay on top of assignments, stated "we didn't get to go through all the material" had office hours at 8 AM, never put in grades. Easy material but needs a different teaching ethic.
The structure of this class is more sporadic and all over the place than most professors. The lectures do help, but in all honesty, the TA was a bit better at teaching the concepts. The tests were a bit difficult due to some questions given were nothing like we have seen before.
Great Professor, lots of experience. Knows what he's doing, funny guy, keeps cracking jokes mostly lecture related. Keeps the class involved. I took him for a Grad class in Probability Theory (EAS-502). Felt he was a genuine math GOD. I had an early morning 8:30 am class, so ive never seen him in a bad mood, I've been told he might get riled up ezy
Dietrich is that boy. He's super funny and his sarcasm is not for the weak hearted, but he gives so much extra credit, WATCH THE VIDEOS HE TELLS YOU TO WATCH, and do the back of the book homework!!! Also the TASS sessions are super helpful. I didn't really find the TAs for the class super helpful mainly relied on the TASS people.
Overall, a pretty easy class. The lectures felt long, and it was hard to stay engaged. Homework was randomly posted, and he would say he was going to post homework or extra credit and wouldn't. But if you keep checking TopHat you can stay on top of the homework. Definitely do back of the book homework and go to class and you will be good.
Some hurtles to overcome but compared to the math professors I have had lately, he's a breath of fresh air. He claims attendance but barely took it. Lectures are easy to get lost in especially since he rants a lot, but he's funny and entertaining. His exams are pretty tough and not just copies of hw. You have to know what you're doing to do well.
Two Exams and Final First Exam 88 Second exam 52 Final 72 Failed class with d+ Took class 3 times. This professor almost screwed me over from graduation. Sure it could have been my fault for being not smart enough but be careful if you fail an exam by a long shot like I did you essentially fail the class. You might as well don't even show up.
The professor picks on students a lot. He assigns a ton of homework, and the lectures aren't very helpful. You have to rely on his videos on UBlearns or study on your own to understand the material.
solid class. little inconsistent on hw/extra credit postings (which are on TopHat). Watch the videos he tells you to watch and do the textbook hw (ungraded). exams are very similar to his hw/quiz problems. bad thing is are his office hours are extremely early and doesn't post grades on brightspace. come to class and you'll do well.
I took him for STA119 and STA301 and loved him. However, this class was very disorganized and he seemed to not take it seriously. I was lost for the majority of the semester because of how disorganized it was. Plus the class was till 9pm so that was inconvenient.
He's very funny and his lectures are pretty good. Sometimes they were kind of boring and he'd get side tracked a lot. Very easy to succeed in his class, you get graded homework plus back of the book problems. If you do those you'll be fine, he also offers a good amount of extra credit which is really nice
Welcome to Disneyland! No course organization, no schedule, random posted HW with diff due dt and random quizzes only with US! We don't care about grades so u will know how much u spent only at the END! BUT don't worry, bcs u can get 25% OFF final grade for skipping 5 lectures ONLY! So enrol today to experience evrthng yourself. Only with Kuhlmann.
Rude professor. He makes his recitations 8am only and makes attendance mandatory. The "textbook" is his notes, which vary in quality. Makes fun of you for getting things wrong. Extremely disorganized, randomly assigns homeworks due at different dates. Unwelcoming environment for learning since he likes to mock students. Lectures can be amusing.
I overall enjoyed the subject, however the professor made me want to skip class. I didn't like his sarcasm and I found him to not be helpful when it came to asking questions. Exams are easy if you do the back of book hw, and lots of extra credit. If I could go back I would pick the online stats option because I didn't need this much stress tbh
Kuhlmann is a good professor overall. His videos and homework problems were very useful and helped a lot with exams. Quizzes were very random and hard to remember sometimes but pretty easy. He rambles SO much it's hard to stay engaged and up at 8am. If you pay attention and do the things he says, you'll get a good grade.
I had nothing but bad experiences with this professor ... don't take this class trust me
Gets side tracked so easily. Teaches only about half the class and constantly forgets to post homework. Also does not reply to emails. Says that there are partial credit on test questions but doesn't actually give the partial credit.
He is a standard college professor just like others: DO NOT TEACH + talk about anything but not content. He is very humor. We also have Sunday reviews which is not mandatory but if you need help you should attend. You can get a lot of help outside of lecture like recitation, his Sunday review lecture, and back of textbook practice problems.
He's a funny professor, but the lectures were not helpful to me most of the time. He just blabbers a lot about random stuff that doesn't really have anything to do with the topics. If you take STA 119 with him, I definitely recommend getting a tutor. That's the only way I passed.
Rude professor, he teaches things over complicated from the textbook he wrote (which doesnt make sense and makes it 10x harder). He will laugh at students to their faces and pick them out of the lecture for random reasons. The exams were difficult.
Very easy class if you have any math experience whatsoever. You can learn everything you need for the exam the night before if you have even vaguely paid attention in class. And you'll want to pay attention because Prof Kuhlman is one of the funniest professors I've ever had. VERY SARCASTIC in the best possible way. Welcome to Disneyland!
Not a terrible professor but he goes on many side tangents that don't relate to the material, is kind of rude and discouraging, and brings up Disney world a lot! The class is kind of hard to follow along and extremely boring. I wouldn't recommend.
If you have to take this class don't take it at 8am if you can. Don't expect to be able to meet with him for office hours because they are at 7am. Also, hope you don't like going out every weekend because his exams are at 9:15 on Saturday mornings.
Pretty funny guy - Ropes students into the jokes - If super socially anxious, maybe don't sit in the front - Scheduling stuff is wack, though - Makeup exam at like 6:30am and STA302 next semester is 6:30-8pm? Yowch! No lecture recordings so that's an ow. He makes sure the courseload is light, though, and HW is JUST like tests. P.S. DYLAN!!!
Assigns lots of random homework. He calls students out during lecture and is kinda rude. His office hours is crazy its from 7-8am. Quiz/test retakes are also at 7 am. Lecture is super boring and he doesn't teach much but rather talks about random stuff. Doesn't put grade in ub learn so you wouldn't even know your grade in the class till the end.
horrible just horrible but hey at least your in disneyland
He reads off a textbook he wrote himself and it barely has any value. Homework is assigned unexpectedly and unless you are checking tophat every day, it's difficult to know when there is homework. He does put an effort when doing review sessions. Recitation is at 8 am and it's not worth the early hour for what you take out of it. He's funny I guess
Great professor. It's a tough class so a lot of people blame the professor for doing poorly. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and is willing to change grade breakdowns based off of the classes' performance. He goes out of his way to do a number of reviews for the test, and a lot of supplemental videos. Also, he's funny.
So unorganized, hate him so much and how he has this class set up. it sets you up to fail but I ate it up
Crazy how he glazes himself over how “organized” his materials are. Dude just makes boxes to cover materials, then covers those boxes with more boxes. That's not organization, that's nesting. Files need to be arranged in folders properly. Bonus rage: the syllabus doesn't even explain how grades are split. Academic chaos speedrun btw.
Very, very rude. When asked about a grade discrepancy, he made an innapropriate remark, and used derogatory terms to refer to his TAs. He's unprofessional, but luckily, lazy too as the midterms were the same as semesters prior.
Disneyland spends billions making people happy and this man ruins it 20 minutes into lecture. Honestly don't know how he has a wife and kids but maybe somebody should pray for their sanity levels. Having him for lecture for the semester has made me throw my hope and dreams out the window and sucked all the fun out of Disneyland.
He prepares a lot of material for students and hosts A LOT of review sessions. Really prepare for these well and ask good questions. Do all the HW. The exams (except for the final) are simply HW questions. P.S Don't bank on the final to improve your grade that test was IMPOSSIBLE 😭
Professor spends a ton of time to ensure you understand the content. There is bonus and the quizzes in recitation are pretty easy. He's a bit unorganized but there are so many examples you should be perfectly fine.
Kuhlmann may be a total pain, and not have any precision or accountability, but for the average student that can stand him, he can kind of teach. Granted, you won't really learn anything, but there's an effort. Also, he never does anything when he says he will, which makes the class extremely disorganized.
Worst prof as UB. TopHat assignments are poorly organized and do not clearly reference where questions come from, forcing students to jump between multiple documents just to complete homework. He spends lectures typing in a word document and complaining about students. Assignments due over thanksgiving break and during finals week. 8am rec, 7am OH
