Awesome lady, and an excellent teacher. She conducts the class almost entirely in French, and queries us in French, which really helps up develop conversation ease.

Very nice, helpful, and fun professor. If you do really well on the tests and she knows that you know your stuff, you'll do well. I did well in the class and skipped the whole oral part of the course and still got a 4.0!

Professor Berven is one of my favorites at OU! Sweet, wonderful, adorable and funny woman who is very admirable. Hard grader, can give lots of work, but makes class FUN and interesting.

Prof. Berven is a great teacher, very fun and interesting. She gives a lot of homework and is a hard grader, but if you really want to learn french well, then I would highly recommend her class.

Fantastic teacher--very smart, funny and energetic. Her classes are animated and lively. You will be entertained, and you will learn a tremendous amount. She was a wonderful instructor!

Great attitude, related experiences from when she actually lived in France. The class was taught mostly in French, which was a bit daunting for a beginner (and I was absolutely a beginner), but I found out that it became easier to understand as time went on. I enjoyed the class.

Great teacher!!! Her classes involve heavy participation, but she's very helpful, kind and humorous. She is a fair grader as well.

A really good class; she teaches with enthusiasm and cares very, very much for each student. Show up for class, do your homework, participate, and study--you'll get an A. I would definitely take upper level classes with her again. She's great!

This class was kind of challenging for a 100 level. However, Dikka grades really easy, she always gives extra points, and curves, TONS of in class particpation.. You could pass this course if all you new were the "er" and "re" verbs. Easy Teacher. Definately recommend.

This is the best professor I have had. She's so much fun and interesting and loves French. The tests can be somewhat difficult at times but if you express any difficulty she will take time to make sure you understand. She's like a hip 60's inspired Parisienne lady. Take her class.

I had Berven 10 years ago for my very first freshman class at OU. Since then, I've gotten advanced degrees from additional institutions, and I've had maybe 2-3 profs that could even hold a candle to her. It's obvious she loves her students. I took her for every other class I could. Consider yourself blessed if you can get her as a prof!

Really good French professor. She explains everything really well and does lots of exercises during class to really get you to learn the new vocab/grammar that you're working on. She's really nice.

She was awesome. I learned a lot from her. Easy class when you go. Just make an attempt on the work book and you are fine. She's really funny and sweet. She will even hold discussions outside of class..(it was optional for us to meet in a french restaurant in Birmingham. I went. She's awesome) Take her class!

I took Berven about 10 years ago. It was in her classes that i realized my passion for foreign languages. I'm back in school now to get certified to teach because of her. She is an amazing professor not to mention a wonderful person. Take her class, you won't regret it. I've had other language teachers since her & they don't even begin to compare.

She was an awesome professor. French is my major and she was exrtremly helpful and informative. Her tests are easy if you pay attention in class! Movies and food days are also a nice plus :) Recommended for sure

I had Berven for 214 and 215 because I needed 2 years of a foreign language for my major. If you're interested in French, she's the prof to take it with! There's a lot of homework, talking in class, and the tests are tough, but she does her best to explain everything to prepare you for the tests and 300-level classes. Good prof, not a blow-off!

EXCELLENT professor. By far my favourite at OU. Very engaging and makes the student want to learn more. Always willing to help and wants you to succeed. Will also go over your exam with you and generally give you extra points if you feel you deserve them (within reason of course). Wonderful person!

AWESOME! My favorite French professor yet! She's wonderful, kind, approachable, and very helpful. This class helped improve my speaking and allowed me to write and think creatively in French. She's very knowledgable and makes everything clear. Made the class a lot of fun. I will definitely take other classes taught by her. :-)

Great teacher!

AMAZING professor. Very nice, passionate about her subject and makes it a priority to include everyone in class discussions. Goes at the pace of the class, so if most people get caught up she will take more time, but if everyone understands she moves quicker. Whether you're taking French as a major or looking for a gen ed I recommend her.

She's such a sweet lady! She makes the class interesting and really gets the students involved. She's always laughing and happy. She's very passionate about what she does and helpful. Take her class!

Awesome professor! She makes this class a lot of fun. There is a lot of homework, but it is not difficult. You will definitely need a textbook. You leave the class really having learned something. She is very helpful and passionate about the subject. Take her class!

She's one of the best french teachers I've ever had. She gave homework every night but not a ton between 1 and 3 hours worth. she calls on people alot to have them talk. Her exams were hard only because there wasnt enough time to finish them, but she does allow you to stay late to finish. i would take her again.

To start, I have it a bit easier because I speak fluent Spanish, but an easy class. Just do the homework and the notebook as you go and it's an easy 3.6+. Really helpful and clarifying when you have a question.

Professor Berven was AMAZING!!! She is super nice and never makes you feel stupid if you have a hard time pronouncing words. There is a lot of homework but it is really easy and helps you learn a lot more. I definately learned SO much by taking her class!

Dikka is the best! She obviously really cares that her students learn the material and not just memorize. If you have stage fright, it's okay! She will be very patient with you. Her oral final is also nothing to worry about. She grades you based on your ability, not everyone elses.

Berven is amazing. I take her for every French class possible and I suggest you do too. This class was difficult, lots of dates & names to be remembered, but she is very helpful and tells you exactly what you need to know for tests. Berven is one of the most personable and helpful teachers I have had. You are required to speak, but she makes you feel at ease about it. She does give homework every night, but nothing too difficult or time consuming. The tests are easy if you know the material and there are no surprises. She is without a doubt, one of the best professors I have ever had. Foreign languages can be tough to learn, but she teaches very well. She does require you to speak the language during class, but makes you feel very comfortable about it. She assigns quite a bit of work, but the class overall is somewhat easy. Prof. Berven was terrific! I had no complaints about her or the class. If you're worried about having to speak the language in front of everyone, don't! She's very encouraging and wants to see you succeed! She's always open for questions and assigns hw after every class but if you know how to do the hw, the tests should be a breeze.Take her class!

Berven is seriously the best French prof at OU. She's so smart and kind, and she really wants you to do well. She's very encouraging, especially if you worry about your French. This class was hard bc it was only 7 weeks, but they're making it longer next year. It's all about pronunciation, which is scary, but Berven helps you through it. TAKE!!

I've heard that she's one of the best language teachers at OU, and I totally believe it. She teaches so well that the work and exams are a breeze. Highly recommend.

I'm about to finish up 114 this week and I am so sad it's over. Mme. Berven is awesome, she is so sweet and helpful. She answers everyone's questions, has fun stories and can have a conversation with you. Knows her stuff and is very clear. Extremely fair and grades great. I'm sad she's not available to teach 115 next semester, I will miss her!

Prof. Berven is an awesome teacher! Everyone loved her. She makes class so much fun! Shes also an easy teacher. Her exams and quizzes are straightforward I got A's on all of them. She is also very understanding as far as completing the online hmwk. Attendance isn't mandatory but participation is a little part of your grade. Take this class with her

I've had 3 classes with Mme now and though she's my absolute favorite, she can be a tough grader in the upper-levels. In 318 it's all about VOCAB. She has you study it and then she tests you on it. We wrote 3 papers similar to the ones we read and took LONG exams about the stories and grammar. It was hard, but I learned SO much. Take her!!

Talk about a classy lady! She is awesome and is really clear on what she expects out of her students. We used the textbook, workbook, and online activities every class. Her tests are really simple and the final exam was easy if you studied and paid attention in class. She is a professor that everyone should take. The class was fun because of her.

I'm so glad nothing bad has been said about her! Our whole class lives her. She grows on you so much and I am sad that its exam day and that its over. Mme Berven is simply a goddess! Love her. This translation class is different than her other ones. We translated the works at home and then shared together in class, making corrections as we saw fit. Sometimes she expected us to do too much, but we asked her to postpone due dates and she would sometimes. Not a hard class if u put in a LOT of effort

Professor Berven is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is very helpful and willing to take the time to help you understand. She also has an amazing personality and will not let you fail her class. I would recommend her to anyone just starting French or who already knows it!

It almost brings me to tears how sweet this professor is. She goes above and beyond to make sure that you understand, but will correct you when you say a word wrong. Lectures are just fantastic the class work isn't bad make sure to check MyFrenchLab daily she adds things out of the blue there quite often. Flashcards are your bestfriend though!

Patient, sweet, and funny! Gives very little homework, and it's not always book activities, sometimes it's just "go write a paragraph in French about your best friend!" She helps you ACTUALLY LEARN in class, instead of just making you learn on your own time. Best French teacher I've ever had. Always made it relevant with real world stuff. LOVE HER.

Had her for the last time this past fall and I legit cried. I love her so much! Our 351 class this year got sidetracked a lot and we had many laughing fits, so she eliminated a couple tests. You have to remember dates and some small details, but it's possible. Her tests are notoriously LONG and she'll ask unique Qs. Oh, and VOCAB! Mme & her vocab..

FAVORITE French prof to date at OU. Mme Berven explains things very logically and in a straightforward, and while she does assign a lot of homework, I thought she was a very easy grader. For next year, the only reason I'm taking a translation class is because she's the prof. Take her if you can!

I absolutely loved Madame Berven. She is very knowledgable and very helpful. She made learning French easy and fun. In my class, participation was key to doing well. Her tests and quizzes were fairly easy, as she gives you all of the tools you will need in her lectures. Overall, I had a great experience with her and would highly recommend.

Mme Berven is a fantastic professor. I took every French class she taught when I was at Oakland University. She is knowledgeable, and funny. I pursued an undergraduate degree in French because of her.

She's absolutely amazing, simply put. There are (probably) 3 exams with either 1 or 2 quizzes beforehand. LOTS of book work, but by no means unmanageable, plus she's a lenient grader. Participation is the best way to learn because she is heavy on class participation. Other than the work, her class is extremely fun and she is a great professor!

As long as you make a plan to get the longterm homework done on time, you will easily pass. It's a fun class and she does a good job of teaching French and making you care.

Madame is truly an amazing person. She is a total sweetheart and you will love her for sure. French is generally a hard subject for me, but she is a good teacher and is patient with us. We do get homework at the end of almost every class, but it's completely manageable and she doesn't penalize you for turning things in late.

I love her, she's so sweet and kind. Be prepared on the first day, she dives right into the course. She goes over every aspect in terms pronunciation, meaning, etc. She expects participation, so pay attention! Exams and quizzes are very easy as long as you study. She likes to teach till the very last minute, so never expect to get out early.

Madame Berven is a nice professor whose class is easy if you show up and do your work. Quizzes and exams are easy if you study and know your verbs (conjugation). Show up to class, she teaches the whole duration which helps the material stick. Expect to speak French in class, she calls on everyone, it's easy and she'll help you if you get stuck.
