AMAZING MIND great public speaker
Very good. Will not turn you down if you have a question. Loves his work.
Probably one of the smartest people alive, too bad I never knew what he was doing.
Intelligent, interesting, approachable, humorous, and helpful.
Very knowledgeable and conveys course work well.
had him in fall97 semester. outstanding person and teacher. I totally regret dropping his class towards 1/4 way thru semester. One day I will be back to take his class again when time permits.
He was a nice guy, but very unclear in class at times, and his test were hard!!!!!
This guy really knows his stuff. Can be unclear but is always willing to help outside of class. He likes guns and bullets and likes to use them in physics examples. If you study and take good notes, you'll do well. More importantly, you'll learn a lot.
Very knowledgeable and fun instructor. He is able to explain complex physical concepts without being bogged down by mathematical rigor (not that he cannot handle the mathematics) and can give excellent qualitative explainations. Tells great stories.

great teacher
Professor Balamore knows Physics, like Yoda knows the Force. Find a better physics professor at NCC, you will not. Recommend him highly, I do.
I had Prof. Balamore many years and I had very little intrest in science but the subject was interesting and I thought he was a really interesting guy - a very nice man. I'm still not into science but I'll always remember his class favorably - learned a lot.
Prof. Balamore is the absolute ideal professor. He is "The Professor". He is a true gem and if you have the opportunity to take a class with him, no matter what it is, do yourself a favor and take it. Learning from this man is a privalege and a gift. So what are you waiting for, go enroll for his class!
amazing teacher...he knows a lot about physics n a lot about ne thing in the science field he is def worth having if u can
Very good, interesting teacher, very hard tests.
An extremely knowledgable, humerous, clever professor
He was the best teacher I ever had.
Great Prof! Hands down, If you've got questions, he's got answers! Dosn't matter what the subject may be. He'll explain it to you know it, even if its too complicated for you to understand. By the time he's done explaining you've learned it (given that you ask questions if you don't understand, by far the most important thing to do).
Indian teacher has many stories to tell and knows a lot about hi-fi speakers/physics. If you are a music major this class may or may not interest you as it goes into VERY technical details of sound. Lectures can be long and tests are intensive. The tests are not that difficult if you pay attention and study. Helps to have a physics background.
He def. knows his stuff! He does calculations in his head and goes a bit fast sometimes. His exams are a bit challenging. Just undertsnad your notes and you will do fine. He's helpful during office hours. You will leran so much from him.
Worst teacher I ever had
very smart, and has lots of knowledge. Very humorous and that makes the class more fascinating. always tries himself available for students. really nice, charming, caring.
Best teacher I have ever had.
He expects you to be smart. I dropped this course. There was an absurd amount of confusion about how everything was graded. The highest grade...83.. horrible. I didn't get to the part about the 8 hour final. His accent makes it harder to understand. THE LABS STUNK IT TOOK ME 9 DAYS TO DO THE ACCELERATION LAB. Being his student was a mistake!
Interesting teacher, but unfortunately he doesn't use the book. So if you don't understand from the lecture, there is no way to read in the book to study. The homework is from a different book, so there is no way to look up how to do the problem. His tests are long and wide ranging, so the lack of a test book for support is a serious problem.
I failed the class and still don't regret taking him. Hard course made more fascinating by the teacher.
A great teacher, fascinating, really...but this man's tests are so long, so wide ranging, and so difficult that I can't see anyone who isn't absolutely in love with physics pass this man's class...Teaches more about the subject than most science teachers though, you will have learned something by the end of the class.
not recommeded!
Smart and very knowledgable, but hard to understand not because of his accent, he speaks well, but because he goes off on tangents and history lessons that are a bit irrelevent. He's all over the place. He can't teach in a straight line. He'd be better in a physics history cource or in research. Extremely smart though.
Balamore is brilliant! He's the only physics teacher at NCC who presents physics as a mosaic of ideas. He ties every concept to a practical application. He gives the historical development of the physics ideas, and lightens the class with funny anecdotes. This class is for a real student and not for one who just wants to plug numbers into formulas.
The best professor I have ever had. The most important person I have ever met. I would seek his advice on virtually any matter, but of course, physics first. Great is the only word I can find to describe his superiority to the rest of humanity, as no other word would suffice. It was the greatest pleasure of my life to have met this man.
Although very intelligent, he should not be a teacher. Tests were given back over three weeks after taking them, labs were collected but never graded, each exam was three+ hours, and he was always ten minutes late to every class. My section started with 25 students and ended with 12. Taking him is a complete waste of time.
He is one of the most inspiring teachers I have ever had. He is a difficult teacher due to a huge brain and an equal interest in the subject. He is a wonderful person and an incredible conversationalist. You will know physics well after taking him. I advise that if you have no interest, you will only be a drag in his class.
very smart guy, not a good teacher. no homework. did 2 labs the whole semester, he never graded them. takes him a month to give back a test. never graded the one quiz we had. not very prompt. tests are mc and short answer, allows lots of cheat sheets. final has same Qs as previous tests. if you are good at physics you will do well wout doing work.
He held us and extra hour after class. His tests took five plus hours to complete. And he is one of the best professors you can take at Nassau. His passion and insight into physics are unmatched. Highly recomend if you want to understand the world better.
He held us and extra hour after class. His tests took five plus hours to complete. And he is one of the best professors you can take at Nassau. His passion and insight into physics are unmatched. Highly recomend if you want to understand the world better.
Everything here that was said is true, i ignored it and regret it. his test are look their usually done during a lab period. the material on test he asummes you know. not all of it was thought. as for collection for labs. he is very unorganized you have to remind him that he was going to collect it. always telling lame stores. and no notes
Prof Balamore is a brilliant man. He has a passion for physics and uses tons of interesting real life examples. HOWEVER, he tells so many stories that he often loses focus of the lesson. He is difficult to understand at times and moves fairly quickly. The tests are extremely difficult even if you study. His 101 class even did the same work as 151!
Extremely inspiring, it was a pleasure to be in his class. Even though I did not pass, I consider myself enriched for the experience.
Fantastic physics professor. Has a strong passion for the subject. Enjoys telling humorous stories. His willingness to help his students is beyond any other professor I have had.
If you love science, you MUST take one of his classes. He'll enrich your knowledge in ways you never expected. If you can't summon up any passion for the subject, go elsewhere.
Very disorganized. I thought I could take him at first since I understood physics previously. His tests and homeworks are nothing like what you learn in class. Lets you bring in a page of notes for each test which isnt bad but i deff would not recommened staying in his class if you have him
His class was tough, but he's a great teacher.
Very Smart technically. Very low rating on teaching technique. He forces his explanations down your throat, teaches what he thinks best and since his way is different from the textbook, it gives you limited resources for studying material. Between his stories and accent, his classes can be frustrating. Very difficult to understand.
Probably one of the most knowledgable people I have ever meet. Very disorganized. 6 test, 5 Labs, 2 homeworks, 1 quiz. Never received one grade until posted on banner. Great experience and perspective on physics.
Top notch professor, if you have any kind of intellectual curiosity about any field Balamore will enlighten you. His classes are tough and he grades very informally but he's very accurate at gauging your effort and assigning a fair grade based on that. Stay after class and chat cause he's always got something interesting to tell you about anything.
Barely collects labs. Never handed back long answer portion of tests. Very unclear and rushes through material, so i stopped attending. Get a hold of his review sheets and hw problems, know how to do them, learn concepts behind them, and you will do fine. My tuition should fund google instead of this guy, because I learned everything from the web.
I can't say he's brilliant like everyone else. He's good for people with zero background in physics. If you are interested in history of science, this is the guy. I would not recommend this guy! Be careful with the grading, he likes you or hates you...
If you have no interest in the subject, you will fail without doubt. This professor will teach you way beyond the subject, but not go far off relevancy. His tests are hard, but seriously after taking this course, you will leave the classroom feeling like you've been lied to your whole life. It will literally change your life for the better.
Great Professor! That being said his classes tend to be difficult due to the fact he wants students to master the basics and apply their knowledge to challenging problems on exams. He is a fair grader and is willing to help students after class. He is brilliant as teaching is effortless to him and can answer all questions with detailed responses.
If you want to be inspired by one of the best lecturers on campus, than take him and SHUT UP!!! Its go hard or go home in his class.
A human science encyclopedia. He seems to know everything. Great sense of humor and always has a story to tell. His tests are very hard and long. You can bring page of notes but if you don't study and take good notes in class, odds are you still won't pass the exam. So study! Labs are your responsibility and he won't remind you. Just don't do it!
He's a really tough professor. He expects a lot from his students. And he's a walking talking Google. He knows EVERYTHING. Just attend his class and show that you're putting effort and trying and you will get a good grade. Oh and if you use your phone HE WILL KNOW and you will end up on his bad side.
Best professor I have ever had.No homework, usually 2 labs and 4 or 5 exams. He knows everything. If you are really interested to learn more science, he is the only one at NCC. He is the best adviser for choosing your 4 year college.
EXTREMELY TALENTED PROFESSOR.EXAMS ARE REALLY HARD AND LONG. NO HOMEWORK!! DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE LABS!! JUST FOCUS ON HIS EXAMS. IF YOU MEET HIM PERSONALLY , HE WILL HELP YOU A LOT. ALSO, IF YOU WANT TO CHOOSE SCHOOLS , JUST MEET HIM. SERIOUSLY HE WILL GIVE YOU LOT OF INFORMATION THAT YOU CAN GET ANYWHERE IN NCC.
Probably the most brilliant mind at NCC. His tests are a nightmare, but if you put in the effort you can make it. He doesn't teach from the required text, but he does pull from Tipler Physics 2nd edition from 1982. Make sure you go to office hours if you need help or ask questions, he may make silly comments, but he has your education in mind.
Great teacher, always willing to stay after class and explain things.
Balamore is probably the most well-read, insightful and hilarious Physics professor you will ever have at NCC. His grading system is not traditional, so don't freak out if you get a 50% on one of his tests (they are intimidating and long), but if you show up for class every day, ask him questions, show genuine interest, you'll do well.
Professor Balamore has been absolutely incredible. His lectures were thorough, the exams were fair and his grading was specific. On exams, showing your work in a clear, presentable manner can only help your case. He will be very specific in rewarding you for correctly showing how you arrived at your answer or docking points for silly mistakes.
Professor Balamore is one of the greatest professors I have had at NCC. He is brilliant, incredibly smart, hilarious, and will spend hours after class helping students to understand material. His tests are long, but not as others make them out to be. Wish I could take him again--I will miss his sense of humor and inspirational lectures.
the tests were hard but has a very good sense of humor and its fun when he shares his knowledge but this class if for someone whose really has the time to sit there and understand his teaching skills.
He truly knows so much and is extremely intelligent. He does help a lot if you take the time to ask and stay after with him. Good sense of humor & gives good advice about colleges.
Took his course for the first summer semester. He's very generous in terms of grading, doesn't collect very much in terms of homework/assignments, and is ultimately concerned with helping students learn physics versus dishing out harsh grades. He's a bit heavy on stories, but he also has a great sense of humor! Textbook not important.
He grew up in India playing with electronics, came to US to research MRI, and I actually liked most of the stories he told. Im not phy/eng/cse but am interested in the material and he made it enjoyable. The hws he gave out were pretty much what's on the test so do them. I only needed to pass the test, but if you really want to know it , read txtbk
Dilip Balamore was my physics teacher in 1989. Today on world teachers day I would like to thank him for being the teacher who taught me the most important things I know today. And today I have a doctorate so I took a few more classes after that! He was the one who made a difference for me. He was a great teacher. I will always appreciate his class
Great Professor! Ask questions if you don't understand anything because he will help!
Professor Balamore is a genius in the truest sense. He is funny, knowledgeable, interested and interesting. He has a true passion for understanding and teaching and will discuss whatever topic you find interesting outside of class so long as you have a true interest yourself. His lecture is worthwhile. Appreciate the wisdom this man has to offer
He's amazing at explaining Physics but on the administrative side of things his classes are a disaster. We have no idea how we're doing until the end of the semester when the grades go on Banner.
Where do I start, he is an amazing amazing professor. One of the most intelligent Professors I've ever met. He WILL HELP YOU. He expects a lot from you but he is willing to help you. He truly cares for his students. I will always have the upmost respect for him.
He know everything about anything, the tests are literally from the notes, but you still have to study your notes, homework packets are harder than the tests, which is good to train your brain, I actively participated in that class, thats why he knew my name and the respect was mutual, and also going to ENS help lab. Dont skip lectures!!!!!
great professor.
Prof Balamore is a real gem. Loves to talk about different topics that relate to the physics he is teaching towards his students. Do the homework, show up too all the classes, and participate and you will pass his class. One of the best physics profs I have had at Nassau.
Hands down one of the smartest people Ive ever met. He knows so much about a plethora of different topics and has a lot of great stories and interesting experiences to share as well. Hes great at teaching but do be warned, his exams are tough! If you are looking for an easy A, look elsewhere. If you truly want to learn, he's your man!
This is the man you want to take for physics. Super smart guy cares a lot about the students you will pass just do your part
Balamore is one of the best Physics Professors at NCC. He is very knowledgeable on all things Physics and it shows in his lectures. The lectures are long but very informative. Make sure you take good notes and don't be afraid to ask questions. He gives 3 tests and 1 final. His tests are tough so make sure you study for them. The class is no easy A.
Amazing professor! Hands down one of the smartest people I have ever known. His lectures are very interesting and he goes above and beyond to make sure the class fully understands what he is teaching, plus his anecdotes are very interesting and funny! His tests are notoriously tough, but if you put in the work, you'll do well.
Took his Physics class for this fall and can barely understand anything. He goes from topic to topic and doesn't really have a good learning style from my experience. Not quite sure what exactly the point of what he was trying to say. BEWARE of his tests, they are extremely difficult to pass. To pass his class you would need a good physics tutor.
I like him as a person &he is very knowledgeable but his teaching style is all over the place. His lectures lack structure and come off the top of his head. He also goes off-topic a lot so looking at the notes isn't really helpful. He doesn't utilize blackboard so you won't know your grades. He's not the worst but if you can I'd pick someone else
I feel like his class wouldve been a better experience in person. I don't like that he doesn't utilize blackboard so you can't really track your grade as you go. His lectures can get pretty long so try and stay focused. Tests are open notes which really helps. The key to success in his class is to understand derivations and study. Physics is tough
No teaching structure, goes off topic ALOT. Doesn't use blackboard. Exams are hard due to lack of lesson structure when teaching. Takes forever to grade your exams. Avoid if possible.
Terrible professor online. Teaches the exact same way as in person with no change in his structure. He's hard to follow and has no structure to his lessons, goes off topic a lot. Tests are also extremely difficult. It was physics one minute and Chrystler cars the next. Please avoid him, your GPA will thank you.
Physics is a tough course, but Prof. Balamore and his anecdotes really made it easy to appreciate the subject. Sometimes attending his lectures felt like a stand up comedy because he would tell stories that would make you laugh but in the end he would somehow tie it back to physics. Definitely had to work for the grade. Gotta work for it.
I took a class with Professor Balamore way back in 2002 or 2003 and have never forgotten him. Such a knowledgeable guy, and entertaining and funny. Definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had. Was a pleasure to learn from him.
He knows what he is taking about. He knows how to teach it. He could be on of the best professor i ever had. I wish he would take more time to explain a few things.
Professor Balamore is one of the best professor's I have ever had. He is funny, knowledgeable, and loves telling stories during lectures. His tests seem to vary from easy to difficult depending on the unit, but he seems to curve grades at the end of the semester so I wouldn't sweat it too much.
This man will go on and on about so many things so if you like listening to him talk thats great. If you don't you still have to pay attention because he will go from 0 to 100 in his lectures.
Professor Balamore returned from retirement to continue teaching Physics. He forms genuine friendships with his students. He loves to talk about his life experiences and relates them to his physics discussions. While grading policies aren't clear, attending, participating, and showing interest and effort will lead to a good grade in his class.
Studying under Professor Balamore is a lifechanging experience. Sure he sometimes gets distracted and talks about something unrelated - but he somehow always manages to tie it back to what we were talking about. Absolutely brilliant. Exams are designed to test your knowledge of physics in depth - make sure to read your textbook and do the problems.
Fantastic lecturer, not always on topic but a pleasure to listen to nonetheless. Try and have him for Physics if you can
Professor Balamore is a brilliant lecturer who ties everything together, even when he gets sidetracked. Exams are tough, but use the textbook, do the problems, and try unstuck ai - it really helps with study prep.
