This guy is terrible. Thank god the class isn't that difficult, or else it'd be murder. You can't understand what he's talking about, and good luck staying awake. He confuses himself while explaining problems. Stay away from this class.
ya hes cool hard to understand uhh... ya.
He is an awfull teacher, he makes many mistakes when solving problems on the board which confuses the students and sometimes it can take him up to 20 min to solve one problem, he comes to late 15 min and misses many classes He started off too slow and now we are behind so hes going fast
Bad teacher. Can't teach. Just because he knows the material really well, he thinks that everyone else is familiar with it, too. When you ask him a question, he says,"What's the problem? What don't you understand?" I hated this guy. Don't take this class unless it's your last resort.
very easy class. All you have to do is do the homework. The test questions are right out of the book.
easy class
This guy is terrible, he does not explain anything does not let you use a calculator and changes though half way through the lecture. I transfered to another teacher and it's like night and day. You will not learn anything from this guy.
This teacher sucks! Went way too slow in the beginning, then sped up, but nobody understood anything he was doing. I doubt he even knew what he was doing. Took the whole class period to solve 1 problem, but even then, he still did it wrong. F------!!! Dont take this class!!!
Very fair teacher for a hard subject. I had this teacher for two semisters. This teacher cares and offers whatever assistance that one's needs. Stats is a hard subject so you need to study on a daily basis. Must take good notes and listen.
Very hard coarse don't take it with him if you want to learn.
He intermittently shows up, so you'll have two teachers with two different methods teaching you. He'll tell you that you belong in the fifth grade if you ask a question. Then he'll skip sections and quiz you on them anyway. I feel cheated having taken this class. If you want to save time and energy avoid him at all costs.
This is the first time that I passed this class. I took it two times before and never understood it. Dilip is truly passionate about teaching. He explains everything and as long as you do your assignments and pay attention in class, you will have no problem passing and actually understanding it!
This instructor is just a robot, going through the motion to collect his check. He has no communication skills, nor can this instructor even get a clue to the level his class is on. He does all the even problems--fast looks at you--and says "ok?" and moves on till the break or the end of class. If you ask a ?, he seems annoyed.
Dilip is a very smart man and knows how to get the subject material to his students. Given the option I would love to have him for all my math classes. Keep up the good work Dilip, LAVC should be proud to have him on there staff.
His only goal is completing his lesson by SKIPPING IMPORTANT STEPS! Ignores students suggestions. Ask him to slow down he'll speed up. His tests are perplexing. If you want to learn read explanations in book and do homework. Instructor is CLUELESS and does not care.
I just dont want to know this instructor! i made a mistake taking his classes. He confuses most of the students and wouldnt try to slow down. If you ask to do another problem (similar to his previous prob.) he will give you a different one. Very boastful man! If you want to learn more, then DONT TAKE him!
I took him fall 08 with my brother and he is a math wiz only for him to barely pass and me not to. It was the most frutrating math class I have EVER taken!!! He doesn't explain well.Doesn't have time for your questions. If you don't have the homework done and the homework is a quiz he makes your right "gulity" on a piece paper. Take another person!
I took this class during Spring of 09 with very high expectations. I love math, but now I hate Statistics because of this teacher. He made it the boringest (not sure if that?s a ward, but you know what I mean) class EVER. All we did was stats, stats and more stats. It seems to me this professor is very inexperienced in speaking to the class, he
Good thing I had previous knowledge of the formulas or i would have not passed this class. Every time someone asked a question, he would put on a blank face and would usually not come close to answering the students question. You ask him about apples and he delivers oranges, if u know what I mean. P.S. He is very unanimated and boring. Pass on him
He might know his stuff, but his a horrible professor. Very thick accent and I don?t think his grasped the English language well enough to teach; then again it?s just math. Acts sincere towards students, but is very cold at heart. I just wonder when his last review by the board of education was.
Even though this guy allows u to bring in notes for his quizzes/test be very cautious, because he does not specify from the beginning that he only expects formulas on these notes. He doesn't check these notes until the day of the Final Exam. He starts to deduct full letter grades, takes away note cards & puts on a sickening show.
I appreciated the professor's true interest in the students to learn. He explaines each section very well in lecture with math problems, so take good notes. Ask Q's and do your homework and you will do very well on the exams. He is very patient and takes the time to explain sections you dont understand very well. Take this professor!
Professor Purohit is the best Statistics teacher that I have ever had. I am an engineer and have taken several Statistic classes at school and at work. He explained why things work instead of just teaching formulas. The light bulb went on for me. I took his class to prepare for the American Society for Quality (ASQ) examination to become a Certi
Definitely take Statistics with this teacher! He is a wonderful. The lectures are very clear. He goes step by step and makes sure the class is following. He makes a difficult subject easy. The tests are straight forward with no surprises. He works with students after class. He really cares about the students.
This teacher is the BEST! He is Crystal clear. There are no surprises. He is very organized and never wastes any time in class. He prepares the class for the tests. Plus, his industry background helps immensely. The class never had difficulties understanding. I am glad I took this class with Dilip!! I would highly recommend this class to tho
The best Statistics instructor by far! He makes the material easy to understand. Don't expect to fully comprehend the course without attending class. Dilip is smart, experienced and can offer you a great experience with Statistics. You MUST do the homework in order to pass the class. I highly recommend him.
He is a great teacher. Take his class if you good at math.
Not an Easy subject by any means, but this instructor breaks it down step by step. I have always struggled with math, but Dilip really makes learning statistics tolerable. He does example homework problems step by step on the board, so take excellent notes. I would refer to those examples when doing my homework. I put in a lot of hours to get a C!!
Everyone saying that he is a difficult teacher is an idiot. He provides his phone number so you can call him for help, and he is extremely helpful. NOTE: SHOW HIM YOU WANT AN A, AND HE WILL HELP YOU GET IT!
Word of caution to all students who want to actually succeed in their academic careers: NEVER TAKE THIS GUY FOR A PROFESSOR!!! His the worst professor in the entire school. Board of education should review this guy, no joke.
He is helpful in class doing lots of explaining. Patient and understanding. I'd recommend his class
Professor Dilip is an EXCEPTIONAL professor and I recommend him to all students having to take Statistics. He made a difficult subject clear to understand.
worse class you can take at LAVC, if math is your major or fav. subject take this course, but if your math skills are weak you will suffer in this class. Not patient, and he will not go over any subjects that you have previously taken, if you ask him a question, his answer is always "you should know this by now",
Dilip is a good prof, he was very helpful. Just do your homework, the test is straight from it. I recommend him.
There isn't a huge workload for the class but it is necessary to get a good grade. Professor is very good at getting back to you if you are having problems in with the work. Great class.
Statistics 225 is very applicable and practical. It is not abstract like Algebra. Prof Purohit's expertise comes in because of his exposure to industry and business. He knows how to simplify the complexity of the subject and explains thoroughly. Do the homework diligently Would definitley recommend him if you are sincere to learn.
Do the work or fail. learned that the hard way. But he is willing to work with you taking time in class to answer the questions, JUST ASK. its true, do the HW and study, study, study. you will do fine. also use cramster as an aid it helps more than you know. good teacher, but you need to commit or get burned and have to take it again.
starts off really easy and then he screws you over. the first three months we only had 2 tests and I was acing it. then on the last month within three weeks we had 2 exams and a final!!! I was going nuts. He can also be a complete jerk, but tests are straight from homework and classwork so that was the best part.
i usually get A's and B's but unfortunately this class was quite challenging and i ended up with a C. not too hard and tests are fair but he is a harsh grader who takes off points for the smallest reasons. Sometimes I would think that i got an A on the test and when i would get it back it was a low C. harsh grader but the tests are fair
This teacher says he is fair when he grades, but the tests are challenging and he never includes anything from the lectures, even the lectures are complex and its never clear what he explains.
Highly recommended. This course itself requires work.I am happy I took this class with Dr. Purohit. He explains the material very clearly. Dr. Purohit is very helpful, and is always open to any additional questions. The tests are easy, since it consists of class and hw material. You will get an A if you go to class, read the material, and do the work.
Worst Professor!! Gave 6-7 questions on each exam which were not very easy. Problems were unclear just like him. If you missed one question, you automatically receive a B. Gave 2 tests in three months and at the last month crammed in 2 tests plus a cumulative final. I ended up dropping the last during the last month of class. Don't take him!!
Not easy BUT if you do the homework you will understand better. He doesn't like to help you a lot. The problem is his grading during the tests. I studied for every single test and he marks down the simplest mistakes but when he does, he marks down VERY LOW for small mistakes.Which lowers your grade a whole lot. PS. he doesn't answer emails...
Professor Dilip is a great teacher. He is genuinely out to help one get a good grade. The reviews helped immensely. The course was based on how much effort you put into it. The material was understandable if you did the work and put in the effort. If you have problems outside of class, LET HIM KNOW! He wants to help you get a good grade. Gr8Teacher
Honestly I think this professor wrote some of these himself. Do yourself a favor and do not take him! Currently in his class he's the worst teacher I've ever had. I'm a straight A honor student and math has always been my string point but this teacher is so unclear gosh I wish I could drop it :/
Well im In this class like right now. His tests are BS. He grades unfair because thats what he did on my test 3. And he was scolding me like if i did something wrong when i told him he didnt correct my test fully. Plus on this exam on one of the problems I put the work and answer and he only gave me 1 point out of 4. DOESN'T LIKE HELPING. DONT TAKE
I was scared at first because I know that I tend to forget math if I do not practice, but Mr. Purohit eased my fears. All that I had to do to pass was go to class, do the homework and be part of a study group of three and I turned my failing grade after the first two test to a passing grade with his help. He is kind and helps when you ask for it.
I was afraid at first, but Mr. Purohit made me feel at ease. I failed my first two test and if it wasn't for his help I would have failed. To pass the class he told me I had to 1) go to class 2) do the homework 3) get with a study group of two motivated students and you will get the grade you desire. So simple and I had the 1 day a week class.
Funny guy, cool accent. He tries to be thorough but it can be hard to understand him at times. He is very nice, he is willing to work with his students. His tests are from the topics covered in his notes, copy everything and always ask for clarification. Show effort and progress for a guaranteed A. You need strong foundation in algebra. Good guy.
He tries to help his students as much as he can, but it was a difficult class b/c I don't like math. He seemed a little disorganized with the material. Copy all the problems that he does and do ALL your homework. He wants to see that people are making an effort.
Math 227 is really easy. The people who complain are just very weak at algebra. Hes a nice guy with good intentions. Take him, hes not bad at all. Unless youre really bad at math.
Funny guy, he is one of my favorite math professors. His tests are simple, as long as you are good at algebra. Hes a good man and expects you to listen and do the work. Do the Homework, Go to class, make study groups, and you will get an A. Some people dont understand algebra thats why they complain about him.
He is one of the greatest professors I have had at Valley College. (And I have previously taken stats with another professor..not so great) Although he has an accent, his lectures are extremely clear and straight forward. Advice: do homework as he gives them. Exams are basically hw problems. Awesome, understanding, and organized professor!!
One of the most unhelpful teacher I have had. He barely understands the students and we barely understand him. He "tries" to offer help and tells us if we have any questions but ends up giving attitude or making students feel dumb for just asking. I'm a straight A student and I received an F in his class. I really do not recommend him.
Well, I'm not a straight A student but I aced all the exams for this class. Exams are EXACTLY like the hws and lecture notes. If ur not good at algebra, just memorize everything.
This professor is very thorough but he moves quickly. So if you have any questions ask him. I don't think he minds. If you don't he will just pummel through to th next section. This coursework is not difficult but it's alot. You must do your homework. Period.
Mr. Dilip cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. Exams are taken from homework and lecture problems so make sure you take notes and understand the concepts. Allows a review session prior to each exam and before finals. If you have questions regarding the homework, he'll help you out. Explains concepts clearly, just pay attention.
If you ask questions in class, I suggest enunciating and speaking loud enough to be heard, because he has selective hearing. He is really nice and very helpful if he sees that you actually care about the material.
one of the amazing professors in statistics. He explains everything many times and do many examples in class. makes the subject easy to understand. tests are not difficult if you study but they can be tricky. overall, very good professors and drops the score of one of the exams. Take him...
I took his class in Fall 2014. It was Saturday class; although, the class was hard, but the prof. was really helpful. He willing to answer any questions the students had, and he explained it calmly and carefully. If you have any issues about the class you can talk to him, because he takes your issues seriously than you think he would
I took Professor Purohit's Math 260 class (my first college class). and found it to be quite easy. He makes pretty much everything as clear as it can get and doesn't mind if one asks questions. The exams are all that one would expect and sometimes he gave extra credit problems in the exams. As for the final, the questions were from the exams.
This is the real world. You get out what you put into the class. The professor is fair and his goal seems to be less about teaching stats and more about what it takes to make it in life. I hate "nice" teachers. I was there to learn and I did. I recommend him for serious students only, otherwise you will have lots of problems. He will help you.
Took the winter Math 227 Stats class over the winter session. I was quite nervous because I hadn't taken math in a while. This professor, however, is pretty enthusiastic about the subject and was genuinely excited when students participated and demonstrated interest and effort. Be sure not to skip any classes. Do all hw even if not due. ;D
Worst mistake I ever made is choosing his statistics class. Grades very hard and makes it hard for students to pass his exams. The only thing you relay on help is the textbook, which can be confusing to understand. Doesn't assign online hw which sucks because online hw helps to understand the subject , NOT the text! . Not a helpful instructor!
Takes this class if your good math and can teach it well by yourself !!!! But if not stay away from this class and choose another professor! Your grade will relay only on exams! Screw up 2 exams your done. The textbook is useless!
He is nice teacher that is very willing and happy help. His lectures move fast but pay attention because at the end he gives class work based on the lecture. Be prepared to do a lot of reading and studying on your own. The lectures wont be enough to get you through the class. The test are based exactly on what he teaches in class.
I personally did not like the teaching methods of professor purohit. He was VERY lecture heavy and expected you to know the material right after he finished lecturing. He is a tough grader and will give u no point on a test question if you don't finish the whole problem. If you fail the final you fail the class! Don't take unless your a mathemation
worst experience in math I've ever had. He does not explain things well and makes everything more complicated. he is not caring and doesnt even have office hours. i failed every test before i ended up dropping and im a good student. took stats again in the spring at a different school w/ a prof w/ a PhD from MIT and i got an A... avoid purohit!!
My GPA: 3.6, every math I have ever taken: A FAILED THIS CLASS He literally yells at students if they ask questions He did not begin going through practice problems until 3 months into semester 2 actual quotes that were yelled at students: "I cannot teach you english!" for asking about a word problem "just do the math!" about homework explanation
Luckily im in a higher math but took this to fulfill a requirement. To start off, he uses 2 different books in class which can get confusing(you only need one of them). He is not very good at explaining and doesnt like to work problems out . I found myself answering many questions from students because he didnt understand the questions. Avoid him!!
This is a critical thinking class with a math, the math is not really the problem, but it was a hard class for me at least. If you want a good grade you have to do good in the tests, the bad part is there are not many tests, if you do bad in one plus a comprehensive final you will not pass this class. If I take a class with the same professor? no
Professor Purohit is a very knowledgeable Statistics teacher. I enjoyed the way that he made the concepts easy to understand. He really cares that you know the concepts, and he will gladly repeat any problem example that you did not quite understand. If you study and do the homework 4 to 5 hours a day, then you make the class easier.
This wasn't my first math class. The professor read straight from the book and said the book explains things confusingly. The first day of class he mentioned that he was covering for someone on maternity leave. He did not use MyMathLab, which was part of the book we purchased. Over half the class failed the first test. Class sessions were rushed.
If you miss class, you wont pass. The class in general is very hard to learn, and very hard to teach. Some things aren't that clear, but he lets his students know if they need help, they can call him and he will walk them through each problem. Just a tough class in general.
Got Prof Purohit as a last second replacement for the original Prof. He wasnt that prepared which was rough for a winter session class, but he seemed to care and was very generous with test grades, though homework was on the very heavy side.
Professor Purohit is a kind man, many think he's difficult but the material alone needs much attention. Tests are not as bad if you really study for it. (group study worked well for us) He does not "baby" you so if you need help or dont understand, ASK FOR HELP or else he'll asume you mastered it. He doesn't offer any extra credit either
Professor Purohit is easy to talk to. The subject matter is extremely difficult but the way he explains it, he makes seem easy. He's available if you need any extra help. Just show up and do the homework and you'll pass the class.
I personally enjoyed Professor Purohit's class. It was my first class back to college, and it was online & a summer course. If you take notes exactly as he is teaching, you will pass the class. Don't be afraid to ask questions, and pay attention. If you miss a class I promise you'll miss something important.
Took his online course and it was one of the worst experiences I have had at LAVC. It was a 5 week summer course and he did not post the syllabus until the 3rd week, we were left completely in the dark. This was his first time teaching an online class and it showed, complete mess highly advise to avoid if possible.
Professor do not have the best people skills and is not able to give a professional feedback. When he ask if there is any question, and a person ask, he tents to get frustrated for asking something that he had just explain, and makes comment like "Oh my God, are you serious? I just explain that". He doesn't really know how to carry an online class
In my personal opinion, he is the worst professor I've ever had the misfortune of taking. If you don't already have an deep interest in statistics and math isn't your strong suit, I highly recommend steering clear from this professor if you want to learn anything or pass. He's incredibly disorganized and completely out of touch with students.
It's a disgrace that someone like this is allowed to teach. Completely unprofessional, lazy, and just overall a terrible instructor. Steer clear away from this professor if you want to learn anything at all. 60% of the grade is based on tests and he decides to take points off for meaningless details. He will beat curiosity and interest out of you.
Hes all over the place and his lectures are just him writing barely understandable examples on PowerPoint. He has no preparation and just goes off the top of his head but hes not a good enough instructor to be clear when doing that. He has a hard time understanding basic questions students ask him. I recommend picking someone else for this class.
This man has no business teaching. I don't get financial aid so I'm spending out of pocket and I can't believe my hard earned dollars went to this class. Professor should retire for the good of the community.
(Pre-Covid) This will be a tough class, and your participation will show for it! Buy the latest issue of the book and have it before class begins. Professor Purohit gets a bad wrap, but he genuinely cares about your ability to work with problems and goes out of his way to help you succeed. If you care, then he will care. Excellent experience.
Professor Purohit is one of the teachers that actually TEACHES and will continue to go over problems until you understand. Classwork and HW was fair, and he always gives adequate time to complete the work. What's major is he made himself available outside of class, even on weekends and holidays to help his students. Work hard + participate pass
Reported this professor to the Math Chair, Dean, and Ombudsperson over unethical grading. May have been respected for one subject, but does not do well in higher math. Bad temperament. Does not grade at all. Grades upon request. Lectures w/ a red pen and blank screen. Monotoned. Graded first exam 2 days before session ended. No feedback. Good luck.
This professor is very unorganized and grades assignments at the last minute, so if you stay motivated by looking at your grade, forget about it. Stay away from this professor.
Professor was amazing, walked through every problem with simple steps. Made learning easy by repeating problems and easy to ask questions that further explain the steps. Statistics was fun and with this professor it was not complicated. He walked us through with StatCrunch, showing us all tab functions that helped solve hw and test questions.
Professor Purohit was a great professor. I highly recommend taking his class Monday-Thursday, which seems like a lot, but things move much slower and you're able to spend more time on each subject. He's very thorough in his lectures, and will continue to go over problems if you don't understand at first. If you put in the work, you'll pass.
He provides clear instructions on lectures, and homework. The workload was intense due to the late start of the class, which only ran for 8 weeks. However, overall, it's easy to engage with his teaching. I don't understand why others had such a difficult time with this class. Put in the effort, and the payoff will come—it's as simple as that.
Professor Purohit's class is a mixed bag - he can be very thorough, but the workload is heavy. Attending lectures is a must, and using Unstuck ai alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of the material. Overall, if you're willing to put in the effort, it's a rewarding experience.
Awful teacher when it comes to grading since he grades class work, homework, and tests during the last second the session is over. I remember being 4 weeks in and the only thing I had graded was the first class work assignment out of the 8 other ones we did over these past weeks.
Let's just say, if you have trouble with math, you won't make it through his class. He is really nice and knows the curriculum well, but he unfortunately has an accent which makes it near impossible to understand what he is talking about. Class is really long, but get to choose between break during class, or leave 15 minutes early.
Professor Purohit is an extremely late grader and changes syllabus policy halfway through the course with no particular reason given. I had to drop the class after being nearly done with it because of a mid-term that was graded almost two months late. He refuses to work with students differing needs, multiple students reached out to no help.
